? Premise of the study: Microsatellite markers were developed for Dimorphandra mollis (Leguminosae), a widespread tree in the Brazilian cerrado (a savanna-like vegetation). ? Methods and Results: Microsatellite markers were developed from an enriched library. The analyses of polymorphism were based on 56 individuals from three populations. Nine microsatellite loci were polymorphic, with the number of alleles per locus ranging from three to 10 across populations. The observed and expected heterozygosities per locus and population ranged from 0.062 to 0.850 and from 0.062 to 0.832, respectively. ? Conclusions: These microsatellites provide an efficient tool for population genetics studies and will be used to assess the genetic diversity and spatial genetic structure of D. mollis.  相似文献

Large non-ruminant ungulates consume the more abundant low-quality forage because this gives them the advantage of reducing search effort. However, large-bodied herbivores would be predicted to search for high-quality fruit patches if these patches were of large size and the fruits rich in nutrients. Diets of lowland tapir ( Tapirus terrestris ), a large non-ruminant of the Amazon basin, were examined from animals of north-eastern Peru to investigate this relationship between high-quality fruit, lower-quality browse and searching behaviour. Lowland tapir consumed on average 33% fruit, which is relatively high for a large non-ruminant ungulate. The fruit portion of lowland tapir diets was dominated by the nutritious Mauritia flexuosa (Palmae) drupes, which were selected by tapir more frequently than other fruit types. M. flexuosa palms grow in virtually monotypic stands and occur in larger patches than other fruit trees used by terrestrial herbivores of the Amazon. Lowland tapir encountered fruits more frequently when ranging in M. flexuosa palm forests than in non-palm forests, because they changed their searching behaviour once they entered palm forests by turning more abruptly. It appears that lowland tapir can consume greater proportions of fruit than other large non-ruminant ungulates, because they exploit a nutritious fruit that occurs in large patches and that meets the energy demands of their large body size.  相似文献

The food habits and seed dispersal promoted by five didelphid marsupials, were investigated through fecal analysis in a cerrado reserve located in the central part of the Espinhaço mountain range in Minas Gerais state, southeastern Brazil. The studied species presented a remarkable constancy in their diets and just for C. philander a seasonal change in diet seems to be present with a high consumption of fruits during the wetter season. Arthropods such as hymenopterans, coleopterans and homopterans were the main food resource detected but seeds belonging to pioneer plants were found with high frequencies in samples of all didelphids. Fruits of pioneer plants belonging to the families Melastomataceae (Clidemia urceolata and Miconia holocericea) and Rubiaceae (Psychotria barbiflora and P. capitata) present high germination rates and were among the mostly consumed. In spite of the differences observed in food preferences, all of the didelphids studied must be considered effective seed dispersers of pioneer plants.  相似文献

The Dimorphandra group, as traditionally circumscribed, is a rather diverse assemblage of genera in Leguminosae subfamily Caesalpinioideae that share certain morphological characteristics with the basally branching lineages of subfamily Mimosoideae. It currently comprises 51 species in seven genera: Burkea (1 species), Dimorphandra (26 species), Erythrophleum (10 species), Mora (6 species), Pachyelasma (1 species), Stachyothyrsus (2 species) and Sympetalandra (5 species). This study investigates the pollen morphology of 25 samples from 19 species of all seven genera. Pollen of the Dimorphandra group is small, isopolar, trizonocolporate and released in monads. Apertures are almost equal to polar length, with correspondingly small apocolpial areas. The shape of the aperture apices varies from acute to wide and rounded. Surface ornamentation is psilate, perforate, microreticulate, or perforate‐rugulate. The wall structure is usually columellate with a well developed foot layer. The pollen is small and unspecialised, agreeing with a previously noted pattern of more fixed and homogenous pollen structure in the more derived clades in subfamily Caesalpinioideae, compared with the great diversity of pollen types found in the basally branching lineages.  相似文献

Dimorphandra mollis (Leguminosae), known as faveiro and fava d'anta, is a tree that is widely distributed throughout the Brazilian Cerrado (a savanna-like biome). This species is economically valuable and has been extensively exploited because its fruits contain the flavonoid rutin, which is used to produce medications for human circulatory diseases. Knowledge about its genetic diversity is needed to guide decisions about the conservation and rational use of this species in order to maintain its diversity. DNA extraction is an essential step for obtaining good results in a molecular analysis. However, DNA isolation from plants is usually compromised by excessive contamination by secondary metabolites. DNA extraction of D. mollis, mainly from mature leaves, results in a highly viscous mass that is difficult to handle and use in techniques that require pure DNA. We tested four protocols for plant DNA extraction that can be used to minimize problems such as contamination by polysaccharides, which is more pronounced in material from mature leaves. The protocol that produced the best DNA quality initially utilizes a sorbitol buffer to remove mucilaginous polysaccharides. The macerated leaf material is washed with this buffer until there is no visible mucilage in the sample. This protocol is adequate for DNA extraction both from young and mature leaves, and could be useful not only for D. mollis but also for other species that have high levels of polysaccharide contamination during the extraction process.  相似文献

Abstract

Fava d'anta is a tree rich in the flavonoid rutin; it is found mainly in the Brazilian savannah, which is called the cerrado and has a defined drought season. The distribution of rutin in fava d'anta seedlings was studied at different developmental stages and in an adult tree. In addition, the effects of flooding, drought and salinity on the content of this flavonoid in seedlings were investigated. Rutin was found in all of the analyzed fava d'anta plant parts, and its content was always higher than quercetin, a related flavonoid. Young leaves showed the highest rutin content. In general, the stresses caused an increase in both of the flavonoids in the seedling leaves, with some variation depending on the leaf age. Seedlings under stress showed a similar growth to the control seedlings, suggesting that rutin may have a role in protecting the tissues against oxidative damage during drought periods in its natural habitat.  相似文献

Caesalpinia echinata and C. ferrea var. ferrea have different seed behaviours and seed and fruit types. Comparison of the seed ontogeny and anatomy partly explained the differences in seed behaviour between these two species of Brazilian legumes; some differences were also related to fruit development. The seed coat in C. ferrea consisted of two layers of osteosclereids, as well as macrosclereids and fibres, to form a typical legume seed coat, whereas C. echinata had only macrosclereids and fibres. In C. echinata , the developing seed coat had paracytic stomata, a feature rarely found in legume seeds. These seed coat features may account for the low longevity of C. echinata seeds. The embryogeny was similar in both species, with no differences in the relationship between embryo growth and seed growth. The seeds of both species behaved as typical endospermic seeds, despite their different morphological classification (exendospermic orthodox seeds were described for C. echinata and endospermic orthodox seeds for C. ferrea ). Embryo growth in C. ferrea accelerated when the sclerenchyma of the pericarp was developing, whereas embryonic growth in C. echinata was associated with the conclusion of spine and secretory reservoir development in the pericarp. 2004年9月到12月,在西双版纳热带植物园沟谷雨林内,通过详细的野外观察和雾网实验以及种子的定时收集方法,对犬蝠(Cynopterussphinx)取食小果野芭蕉(Musaacuminata)的行为及规律进行了研究。发现在夜晚24:00以前,犬蝠取食小果野芭蕉有明显的2个活动高峰,分别发生在20:30和22:30左右,这一结果与雾网采样结果较为一致。在研究期间的雨季(9-10月)和干季(11-12月),犬蝠平均被捕获量为2.2±0.3只/d、1.4±0.3只/d,二者之间没有显著的差异;同时这两个季节收集的种子团数量分别为9.0±1.1个/d和7.2±1.4个/d,也没有显著差异。犬蝠对小果野芭蕉种子的传播受生境影响较为显著,各样地间种子传播的结果大不相同;地点和季节对犬蝠传播种子也不存在交互影响。犬蝠对小果野芭蕉种子的传播距离为50-200m,是小果野芭蕉有效的种子传播者  相似文献

从2005年3月到2006年5月,在中国科学院西双版纳热带植物园沟谷雨林保护区内研究了两种果蝠——棕果蝠(Rousettus leschenaulti)和犬蝠(Cynopterus sphinx)取食光叶桑(Morus macroura)果实的行为、夜栖息地分布、散布种子方式及范围等。借助月光对果蝠的行为进行直接观察,发现它们的取食活动一般在天黑20~40min开始,取食高峰发生在22:00~22:30和23:00~23:30之间,这两个取食高峰期平均取食次数(平均值±标准误)为(13.5±2.5)和(15.0±2.3)次,最低的取食频率发生在19:00~19:30和20:30-21:00之间,分别取食(0.2±0.2)和(0.7±0.5)次。果蝠很少在母树上取食成熟的果实,相反它们用嘴叼下果实并携带到夜栖息地去进食,通常这些夜栖息地是具有密闭树冠、密集枝条的树种。夜栖息地在母树周围的分布根据环境中适合它们栖息的树种和分布而决定,不同母树周围其夜栖息地分布具有非常大的变异与空间异质性。钝叶榕(Ficus curtipes)、铁力木(Mesua ferrea)和糖胶树(Alstonia scholaris)是果蝠最喜爱的夜栖息地。在同样的情况下,尽管需要飞行更远的距离,两种果蝠都比较喜欢寻找具有许多枝条和小枝并且有复杂树冠的树木作为夜栖息地。两种果蝠取食光叶桑果实时,一部分种子通过消化道消化后被排泄出来,另外的一部分伴随着咀嚼后的果渣被吐出来,通过这两种方式,散布了大量的种子,再加上在飞行中也有排泄的习性,它们传播的种子在空间上更广泛。  相似文献

A systematic study of the leaf anatomy of Dimorphandra and Mora showed that the leaf epidermis provides taxonomic characters for the separation of the two sections of Dimorphandra, Pocillum and Dimorphandra , viz. the structure of the guard cells and the degree of sunkenness of the stomata. The diverse arrangements of the neighbouring cells around the stomata do not provide a clear distinction between the sections: in section Pocillum the stomata are paracytic but in section Dimorphandra several types are found. Papillae of diverse shape, size and disposition are present in the different species of Dimorphandra , and with all these variations in the epidermal characters it is possible to establish series of increasing complexity in the two sections.
Mora presents several characters which distinguish it from Dimorphandra (e.g. thickenings in the walls of the stomata and other epidermal cells, granular silica in the lumen of some epidermal cells, and sinuous anticlinal walls in the cells of both epidermides), thus supporting its recognition as a separate genus.  相似文献

The conservation success of endangered trees may depend on re-establishing or replacing the mutualisms that were important in their native habitats. In this study, we quantified avian frugivore diversity on individuals of the endangered Chinese yew (Taxus chinensis) in a botanical garden and at a natural site. We found that frugivore species diversity was lower in the botanical garden than in the natural site. In spite of the relatively low frugivore diversity, however, the ex-situ population of Chinese yew attracted similar disperser species to those in the natural population, and trees in the ex-situ population were visited more frequently than those in the natural population. Furthermore, the different perching behavior of dispersers resulted in different dispersal efficiencies. Although the Chinese bulbul (Pycnonotus sinensis) was the most common forager in the botanical garden, its dispersal efficiency was the lowest, and thus it could not like the role played by the mountain bulbul (Hypsipetes maclellandii) in the natural site. Only the red-billed blue magpie (Urocissa erythrorhyncha) provided a high-quality dispersal service in both sites. Our results highlight the ability of the Chinese yew to recruit seed dispersal agents in new habitats. However, if the newly recruited species is a low-quality disperser, the plants will depend more heavily on other avian vectors for regeneration.  相似文献

Cratylia mollis Mart ex. Benth is a species belonging to the Leguminosae family that exists throughout South America, and it is one of the most abundant plants in northeastern Brazil, especially in the semiarid region. This plant is popularly known as “camaratu” and “camaratuba”, and the leaves and stems of this species are used as a substitute for cattle's alimentation during the dry season. The chemical investigation of the methanolic extract from leaves and stems of C. mollis led to the isolation of new flavans named 4,2′,3′-trihydroxy-4′-methoxy-6,7-(methylenedioxy) isoflavan, 7,2′-dihydroxy-6-methoxyflavan, 7,3′-dihydroxy-6,2′-dimethoxyflavan, 7-hydroxy-6-methoxyflavan, 2′-hydroxy-6,7-(methylenedioxy) flavan, 2R*,3S*-7,2′-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-flavan-3-ol, and 2R*,3S*-7,3-dihydroxy-6,2′-dimethoxyflavan-3-ol and an unusual flavan (11H-benzofuro[3,2-b][1] benzopyran-2-methoxy,3-hydroxy,5a,10a-dihydro) named (3R*,2R*)-3-O-2′-7-hydroxy-6-methoxyflavan. The cerrado has been identified as one of the richest and most threatened biomes of the world, but few phytogeographical studies have been undertaken in the region. A total of 70 land systems based on climate, landscape and soils have been identified in the region, but it remains to be seen if the distribution and structure of the plant communities support these divisions. The aim of this work was to compare the floristic and structural similarity of cerrado sensu stricto within and between three physiographic units, named Pratinha, Veadeiros and São Francisco, which contain six land systems in central Brazil and cover 10 degrees of latitude and five degrees of longitude. The woody vegetation of 15 selected sites of the cerrado sensu stricto physiognomy was surveyed under a standardized methodology. The number of species per site varied from 55 to 97, with most sites having around 60 to 70 species, and Shannon´s diversity indices ranged from 3.44 to 3.73, with most sites around 3.5 suggesting high alpha diversity. Sørensen´s floristic similarity index was high, with all Figures above 0.5 between the sites in the same land system in each physiographic unit but low between sites in different land systems in the Veadeiros. Czekanowski similarity indices were lower than Sørensen’s in the comparisons due to a high structural differentiation between the sites. There is a large overlap in species occurrence in the sites but the size of their populations is very different at each site. Therefore, the high beta diversity is mostly due to differences in abundance of species between sites. The sites were separated by physiographic units, considering the first three divisions of TWINSPAN classification. The first axis of DCA ordination showed a gradient going from the cerrado on deep soils in Pratinha, through to those on sandy soils in São Francisco and ending on the shallower soils of the Veadeiros. Land systems conformed well with the floristic and structural variations of the vegetation, indicating their potential use in designing a network of conservation areas in the cerrado region and as a basis for decision-making on management.  相似文献

Earlier studies of the interrelationships between bruchid beetles and their host plants have suggested that the typical pattern tends to be that one bruchid species attacks only a few host species, and that most host species are attacked by only one bruchid species, or at most very few. However, the bruchids attacking Parkia in Amazonian Brazil do not conform to this pattern. The bruchid diversity on Parkia was found to be higher than on any other legume genus yet studied. It is not yet possible to assess whether Parkia is particularly unusual in this regard, or whether such high levels of diversity are typical in Amazonian forests. The number of bruchid taxa attacking any one Parkia species is related to the number of co-occurring closely-related Parkia species. In either taxonomically or geographically isolated host species the bruchid diversity is much reduced.  相似文献

Neotropical parrots forage for various food items such as seeds, fruit pulp, flowers, young leaves, and even arthropods. While foraging, many species wander over large areas that include both open and closed habitats. In this study, I examined parrot foraging activity during a brief synchronous and massive flowering in August 1998 in a tecoma savanna (dominated by Tabebuia aurea) in the southern Pantanal. Six parrot species, ranging from the small Brotogeris chiriri to the large Amazona aestiva, foraged for T. aurea nectar, but Nandayus nenday was by far the major nectar consumer, and the results of each of their visits, like those of the other species, was damage of a substantial proportion of the existing flower crop. Parrots foraged mostly during the afternoon, when nectar concentration tended to be higher. Nevertheless, compared to bird-pollinated flowers, which produce copious nectar, T. aurea had a smaller mean nectar volume per flower. Hence, presumably the amount of damage wreaked by these parrots resulted from their efforts to obtain part of their daily energy and water requirements. Thus, the synchronous and massive flowering occurring in such a brief period in the dry season may be related to, among other factors, the necessity of satiating predators such as parrots, which are still abundant in the Pantanal.  相似文献

Seed dispersal of Biserrula pelecinus via cattle dung in a semiarid pasture is analysed by quantification of the viable seed content of cattle dung, assessment of the percentage of readily germinable seeds in growth chamber of seeds collected from the plant and from dung, monitoring of the on-field frequency of the species in dung pats and in surrounding (control) pasture plots the four springs after dung deposition, and quantification of the pasture area occupied by dung pats. Large amounts of seeds of the species are dispersed by cattle (up to 4 seeds g-1 of dry manure in June 1991), and the germinability of the seeds increases significantly following their passage through the cattle gut (from 2.5% to 9.5%). In the first three springs after deposition, the frequency of adult plant of the species on dung almost tripled that found in the surrounding pasture. The effect on the pasture is scale-dependent and varies considerably between zones depending on the area covered by dung. Thus, presence on dung may explain an average of 8% of the frequency of the species in the pasture at a 10 times 10 cm scale, and up to 20% in some areas. The results are the first evidence of a herbaceous species being greatly favoured in a plant community by its dispersal through herbivore dung, a process that may have profound implications for the interpretation of plant-herbivore relations and on the evolution of plant traits.  相似文献

Astilbin (5,7,3',4'-tetrahydroxy-2,3-dihydroflavonol-3-?-o-rhamnoside), a flavonoid with a large range of biological activities, was isolated from Dimorphandra mollis, a shrub common to the Brazilian Cerrado. The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of astilbin on myeloperoxidase (MPO) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and its antioxidant activity against hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and total antioxidant activity (TAC) by the 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical cation (ABTS?+). Astilbin inhibited MPO and HRP activities in a concentration-dependent relationship and effectively scavenged HOCl. The TAC by ABTS?+ of astilbin (IC50 ~ 20 mM) was higher than that of uric acid, which was used as a positive control. These data demonstrate that astilbin is a potent antioxidant and that it inhibits MPO and HRP activities efficiently.  相似文献

1. Most woody plant species in tropical habitats are primarily vertebrate‐dispersed, but interactions between ants and fallen seeds and fruits are frequent. This study assesses the species‐specific services provided by ants to fallen arillate seeds of Siparuna guianensis, a primarily bird‐dispersed tree in cerrado savanna. The questions of which species interact with fallen seeds, their relative contribution (versus vertebrates) to seed removal, and the potential effects on seedling establishment are investigated. 2. Seeds are removed in similar quantities in caged and control treatments, suggesting that ants are the main dispersers on the ground. Five ant species attended seeds. Pheidole megacephala (≈0.4 cm) cooperatively transported seeds, whereas the smaller Pheidole sp. removed the seed aril on spot. Large (> 1.0 cm) Odontomachus chelifer, Pachycondyla striata, and Ectatomma edentatum individually carried seeds up to 4 m. Bits of aril are fed to larvae and intact seeds are discarded near the nest entrance. 3. Overall, greater numbers of seedlings were recorded near ant nests than in control plots without nests. This effect, however, was only detected near P. megacephala and P. striata nests, where soil penetrability was greater compared with controls. Soil nutrients did not differ between paired plots. 4. This study confirms the prevalence of ant–seed interactions in cerrado and shows that ant‐derived benefits are species‐specific. Ant services range from seed cleaning on the spot to seed displacement promoting non‐random spatial seedling recruitment. Although seed dispersal distances by ants are likely to be shorter than those by birds, our study of S. guianensis shows that fine‐scale ant‐induced seed movements may ultimately enhance plant regeneration in cerrado.  相似文献
