Two cladid crinoid species, ?Ulocrinus indicus Wanner, 1924, and ?Ulocrinus conoideus Wanner, 1937, are reinterpreted as cladid crinoids that do not belong to the cromyocrinids. This justifies Wanner's questioning of the generic assignment. ?Ulocrinus indicus has bifascial radial facets and is considered an advanced intermediate dendrocrinid assigned to the incertae superfamiliae, Katerocrinidae n. fam., Katerocrinus indicus n. gen., n. comb. This extends the range of the bifascial dendrocrinids upward into the Permian. ?Ulocrinus conoideus has trifascial radial facets and is assigned to the superfamily Scytalocrinoidea, incertae familiae, Dochmocrinus conoideus n. gen., n. comb. It re-emphasizes the need for revision of the family Scytalocrinidae. An unnamed, poorly preserved cup is described and considered to be a pelecocrinid crinoid, thus adding to the diversity of the West Timor Permian crinoids.  相似文献

Resistance mechanisms of bacteria to antimicrobial compounds   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A range of antimicrobial compounds (bactericides) commonly termed biocides, microbicides, sanitizers, antiseptics and disinfectants are available, all of which are claimed by their producers to kill bacteria. Resistance has been defined as the temporary or permanent ability of an organism and its progeny to remain viable and/or multiply under conditions that would destroy or inhibit other members of the strain. Bacteria may be defined as resistant when they are not susceptible to a concentration of antibacterial agent used in practice. Traditionally, resistance refers to instances where the basis of increased tolerance is a genetic change, and where the biochemical basis is known. Antimicrobial substances target a range of cellular loci, from the cytoplasmic membrane to respiratory functions, enzymes and the genetic material. However, different bacteria react differently to bactericides, either due to inherent differences such as unique cell envelope composition and non-susceptible proteins, or to the development of resistance, either by adaptation or by genetic exchange. At low concentrations bactericides often act bacteriostatically, and are only bacteriocidal at higher concentrations. For bactericides to be effective, they must attain a sufficiently high concentration at the target site in order to exert their antibacterial action. In order to reach their target site(s), they must traverse the outer membrane of the gram negative bacteria. Bacteria with effective penetration barriers to biocides generally display a higher inherent resistance than those bacteria which are readily penetrated. The rate of penetration is linked to concentration, so that a sufficiently high bactericide concentration will kill bacteria with enhanced penetration barriers. It has been indicated that susceptible bacterial isolates acquire increased tolerance to bactericides following serial transfer in sub-inhibitory concentrations. Whereas the basis of bacterial resistance to antibiotics is well know, that of resistance to antiseptics, disinfectants and food preservatives is less well understood.Three mechanisms of resistance that have been reported include:
• limited diffusion of antimicrobial agents through the biofilm matrix,
• interaction of the antimicrobial agents with the biofilm matrix (cells and polymer),
• enzyme mediated resistance,
• level of metabolic activity within the biofilm
• genetic adaptation
• efflux pumps and
• outer membrane structure.

An incomplete skeleton of the ichthyosaur Ophthalmosaurus icenicus Seeley, 1874 excavated in the Oxfordian–Kimmeridgian beds south of the town of Syzran (Samara Region) is described. Members of the genus Ophthalmosaurus are characterized by a unique combination of characters, most of which are well-pronounced in the specimen described here: the extracondylar area of the basioccipital is reduced, but still visible beyond the occipital condyle and has a well-pronounced ventral notch; the scapular shaft is mediolaterelly flattened; the humerus has three distal facets: the anterior facet is the smallest; the facet for the accessory preaxial element has a sharpened anterior margin; the facet for the radius faces distally; the facet for the ulna faces posterodistally; the posterior margin of the ulna is concave and sharpened, involved in the perichondral ossification; the intermedium is rhomboid, with two distal facets equal in size for the second and third distal carpals; the epipodial and autopodial elements are round and thickened, loosely arranged in the fin. This specimen is the first reliable evidence of the presence of Ophthalmosaurus in the Oxfordian–Kimmeridgian of Russia. The previously described remains of a Kimmeridgian ichthyosaur referred to as O. undorensis Efimov, 1991 should be identified as Ophthalmosauridae indet.  相似文献

Polarity pathways regulate important functions during the formation and maintenance of cell–cell junctions and during morphogenesis. In addition, cell polarity pathways are emerging as critical regulators of initiation and progression of carcinoma by functioning as tumor suppressors, downstream of oncogenes, or promoters of the metastatic process (Figure 2). It is highly likely that further analysis of cell polarity proteins and the pathways they control will identify novel biomarkers and potential drug targets for managing and treating patients with carcinoma.

The title of my presentation suggests or at least anticipates that the EU legislative process, to provide a harmonised regulatory platform for biocides in the EU, has been finalised when this symposium takes place.When adapted and subsequently implemented in the EU member states (estimation Q3 1999), this directive will have a major impact on the market of disinfectants for both the suppliers of active substances and formulators supplying disinfectant products to customers and consumers. This presentation will focus on (technical) regulatory consequences rather than economical or business effects.
• • scope: which products will fall under the regime of this directive, which are excluded?
• • principle: one product—one authorization and mutual recognition; lead times involved?
• • procedure: how will the simplified procedures foreseen (hopefully) help the disinfectant supplier?
• • data requirements: why do the dossier requirements for products and particularly actives need to be so excessively costly and what is the role of risk assessment?
• • transitional arrangements: what can and can't disinfectant suppliers do to keep their products on the market or to introduce new products?
• • review programme: what will happen to the availability of active substances?
The directive itself will not give sufficiient answers to all issues mentioned above to allow a harmonised interpretation across the EU. A number of technical guidance documents is therefore being developed covering Common Principles, Data Requirements and Conditions to include an Active Substance on Annex I. The workability of the whole directive will very much be dependent on the practical details to be dealt with in these documents.Disinfectant suppliers also do recognize the merits of the directive (improved protection of man and the environment, harmonisation across EU, etc.), provided however that it does not undermine the efforts of our industry to deliver better hygiene with safe, effective but also affordable disinfectants.  相似文献

More and more data are available indicating that numerous (infectious) diseases are related to the home environment. Airborne microorganisms (bacteria, fungi), mites (in sheets or carpets), and (parts of) insects and beetles may be the cause of respiratory diseases such as asthma. In Europe and North America, more than half of the registered food infections appear to be contracted in the home. Then there is the development of new pathogens or the adaptation of microorganisms to extreme conditions. In many cases, the occurrence of adapted or resistant microorganisms is a reaction to the changing environment. Examples of this are the growth of Listeria monocytogenes in refrigerated food products and the presence of Legionella pneumophila in systems containing stagnant water.The main sources of infection in the domestic environment are people, pests, pets, and contaminated food and water. Germs are transmitted by direct contact with people or animals, by contaminated food, water, surfaces and air.Under circumstances favourable to microorganisms, the cells are able to survive or multiply into large numbers. Especially in places which stay moist for a long time considerable amounts of microorganisms are found, among with pathogenic types.The phrase ‘home hygiene’ does not merely refer to cleaning the house (daily). In practice, cleaning is not the only important issue; knowing how to prevent contamination is just as crucial. Domestic hygiene is the total sum of the measures used to prevent (insofar as possible) contamination with pathogens, and thus decreasing the number of infectious diseases. The hygiene measures required can be divided into three groups:
• Hygiene during food preparation.
• Personal and sanitary hygiene.
• Domestic environment.
This contribution will focus on food storage, food preparation and the effect of 'hygienic cleaners’ in the domestic kitchen.  相似文献

Abstract:  A new fauna of Lower Cretaceous (Albian) ichthyosaurs, which includes at least one new genus and species, was recovered from deposits of the Loon River Formation at Hay River, Northwest Territories, Canada. All Cretaceous ichthyosaurs have been referred to a single genus, Platypterygius . The Loon River Formation material, however, does not satisfy the diagnosis for Platypterygius , and it is distinctive enough to warrant the erection of a new genus and species of ichthyosaur. Maiaspondylus lindoei gen. et sp. nov. is distinguished from other ichthyosaurs by an extensive overlapping contact of the jugal and the maxilla; marginal teeth with smooth crowns, fluted cementum, lingual curvature and implantation in a dental groove; and humerus with isomorphic proximal and distal ends, featuring three distal articular facets in which the medial articular facet is smaller than the lateral facets. The holotype and referred material is described here, and the relationship of Maiaspondylus to other ophthalmosaurs is discussed.  相似文献

Two unusual Middle Ordovician crinoid genera from the St. Petersburg Region, Pentamerocrinus Jaekel, 1918 and Grammocrinus Eichwald, 1860, are redescribed. A new species, Pentamerocrinus kosovi sp. nov., is described based on new material and the cup structure in the type species Grammocrinus lineatus, which has previously been known only from stem fragments, is reconstructed. The system of ridges and canals on the internal surface of the cup plates in both genera is described, allowing the reconstruction of the aboral nervous system. It is in general similar to extant crinoids, but the two Ordovician genera differ considerably in structural details. In Pentamerocrinus, ten nerve cords diverge interradially from the ganglionated nerve ring at the cup base and soon are fused in pairs inside the rays. In Grammocrinus, a similar nerve ring also gives rise to ten cords, but they are inside the rays and become fused in the interrays. This distinction in morphology of the nervous systems is correlated with the interradial arrangement of the axial canal angles of the stem in the first case and radial in the second. Therefore, despite general similarity in the structure and arrangement of calyceal plates, the genus Grammocrinus is assigned to the disparid crinoid family Iocrinidae, while the monotypic family Pentamerocrinidae Jaekel, 1918 is regarded as a fam. inc. sed. of inadunate crinoids.  相似文献

In the shallow-water area (0–70 m) of the Northern Bay of Safaga, 73 surface samples were studied with respect to total foraminiferal fauna. The samples cover a great variety of shallow-water environments and yielded 239 foraminiferal taxa. Based on q-mode cluster analysis, and tested by canonical discriminant analysis, the samples are grouped into 13 foraminiferal associations, each characterized by several species:
(1) Quinqueloculina mosharrafai-Borelis schlumbergeri-Brizalina simpsoni Ass.,
(2) Heterostegina depressa-Amphlstegina lessonii/bicirculata Ass.,
(3) Cibicidids-Rosalina-Amphistegina lobifera-Pseudoschlumbergerina ovata Ass.,
(4) Peneroplis planatus Ass.,
(5) Peneroplis planatus-Varidentella neostriatula Ass.,
(6) Peneroplis planatus-Coscinospira hemprichii-Varidentella neostriatula Ass.,
(7) Quinqueloculina spp. Ass.,
(8) Hauerina diversa-Sorites orbiculus Ass.,
(9) Verneuilina sp.-n Articulina pacifica-Reussella simplex Ass.,
(10) Textularia agglutinans/rugulosa-Bolivina variabilis Ass.,
(11) Textularia agglutinans-Challengerella bradyi-Elphidium jenseni/simplex Ass.,
(12) Operculina ammonoides-Adelosina laevigata-Brizalina striatula/subspathulata Ass.,
(13) Bolivina variabilis—Miliolinella-Nonion fabum-Elphidium simplex Ass.
The characteristic forms of each association are linked to specific environmental parameters and modes of life. As long as taxonomic uniformitarianism can be applied, similar associations with comparable ecological demands may also be detected in the fossil record. For comparisons with taxonomically different material the 13 associations are summarized into 4 categories each reflecting a specific type of substrate. In the fossil record these categories may be recognized by general morphological characteristics of the foraminiferal tests and by sedimentological data. The 4 substrate types are: hardground, sand (with or without seagrass and/or corals), firmground, and soft bottom.  相似文献

Specimens of Holopus rangii (order Cyrtocrinida) were collected by submersible at depths of several hundred meters in the Caribbean and fixed for light and electron microscopy. The presence of an anus is confirmed. However, the chambered organ and glandular axial organ peculiar to crinoids are lacking. The gut lumen sometimes includes partially digested prey items up to several hundred micrometers in diameter, and we propose that Holopus may feed raptorially by rapidly closing its arms over demersal zooplankton. Electron microscopy of the arm reveals a radial nerve and a radial haemal channel, which light microscopy previously failed to demonstrate. The cuticle includes bacteria that are probably symbiotic. The ten brachial nerves of the aboral nervous system unite pairwise to form five calyx nerves. The calyx nerves, one in each radial position, are connected by a pentagonal, interradial commissure and then continue to the attached end of the body where they end blindly without forming an aboral nerve center. The absence of the aboral nerve center and related internal organs strengthens the argument that no basal ossicles are included in the skeleton of the calyx and suggests that Holopus may have evolved from stalked cyrtocrinid ancestors by saltatory loss of major body parts.  相似文献

1. We have examined the prooxidative–antioxidative reaction to extremely low temperatures (−130 °C) during a one-time cryostimulation in 15 young, clinically healthy individuals.
2. The total lipid peroxides as the total oxidative status (TOS) and the total antioxidative status (TAS) were measured in blood plasma collected in the morning of the day of cryostimulation, 30 min after the cryostimulation, and on the following morning.
3. The level of stress expressed by total oxidative status in plasma, resulting from exposure to extremely low temperatures, was statistically significantly lowered 30 min after leaving the cryochamber than prior to the exposure. The next day, the TOS level still remained lower than the initial values. The TAS level decreased after leaving the cryochamber and remained elevated the following day.

Fossilized tube feet are described on Codiacrinus schultzei Follmann from the Lower Devonian Hunsrück Slate of Germany. This is the first definitive proof of tube feet on any fossil crinoid. Three lightly pyritized, flattened tube feet are preserved in a single interray of this cladid crinoid. The tube feet were at least 7 mm long. Their preservation is very similar to the tube feet reported previously from a Hunsrück ophiuroid, except that the Codiacrinus tube feet have small papillae, similar to living crinoids.  相似文献

Evidence is presented that chromosome ends are attached to the nuclear envelope prior to the formation of axial cores during early meiotic prophase in the grasshopper Brachystola magna. The attachment sites of distal and proximal chromosome ends are clustered in a small region of the inner nuclear envelope resulting in a classical bouquet arrangement of the chromosomes. Proximal ends are tightly clustered due to the presence of chromocenters. Distal chromosome ends are more widely scattered throughout the base of the bouquet. —Axial core formation can be initiated at chromosome ends or at internal chromosome sites. However, there is a preference for axial cores to form in distal chromosome regions rather than proximal regions during early meiotic prophase. — Virtually all of the nuclear pore complexes are located in the general vicinity of the chromosome attachment sites but each specific attachment site is surrounded by a small area of nuclear envelope which is devoid of pore complexes.  相似文献

Abstract. Examination of the living bathyal feather star, Atelecrinus, using light and scanning electron microscopy reveals a series of morphological features, some apparently unique within the Crinoidea, which forces a reassessment of the relationship of the genus to other living feather stars. In the cavernous centrodorsal cavity, interradial buttresses end with a shallow oral concavity or deep pit. Two adjacent axils each bear a large distolateral calcareous process of unknown function that resembles a shoe with a deeply ridged sole. These processes project into the visceral mass with their “soles” apposed—the only known case among living crinoids in which a skeletal feature appears asymmetrically on two of five rays. Articular facets of distal brachials bear one distally‐projecting, distal muscular fossa that overlaps a recumbent muscular fossa on the succeeding ossicle. Apposed projecting and recumbent fossae alternate sides on successive ossicles. The arm terminates in a long filament that lacks pinnules. Finally, modified ambulacral lappets resembling sessile pedicellariae but unsupported by skeletal plates flank the ambulacral grooves along the middle and proximal arms. Two of the four genera in the Atelecrinidae, extant monotypic Sibogacrinus anomalus and Cretaceous Jaekelometra, are removed from the family and treated as incertae sedis. Unique cirrus sockets are found in Atelecrinus and Atopocrinus sibogae (the only other remaining atelecrinid); members of Atopocrinus share unique ray morphology with those of the Pentametrocrinidae, and uniquely modified distal brachials are shared by individuals of Atelecrinus and Pentametrocrinus varians. However, the relationship of Atelecrinus to other feather stars remains unclear. The genus may represent a highly derived, paedomorphic comatulid as suggested by its unmetamorphosed basal ring and lack of proximal pinnules, or a non‐comatulid distinguished by its cirrus sockets, skeletal processes and pedicellaria‐like features. Robust answers require fresh material suitable for ultra‐structural and molecular analyses.  相似文献

Recent debates over the evolutionary relationships of early echinoderms have relied heavily on morphological evidence from the feeding ambulacral system. Eumorphocystis, a Late Ordovician diploporitan, has been a focus in these debates because it bears ambulacral features that show strong morphological similarity to early crinoid arms. Undescribed and well‐preserved specimens of Eumorphocystis from the Bromide Formation (Oklahoma, USA) provide new data illustrating that composite arms supported by a radial plate that bear a triserial arrangement of axial and extraxial components encasing a coelomic extension can also be found in blastozoans. Previous reports have considered these arm structures to be restricted to crinoids; these combined features have not been previously observed in blastozoan echinoderms. Phylogenetic analyses suggest that Eumorphocystis and crinoids are sister taxa and that shared derived features of these taxa are homologous. The evidence from the arms of Eumorphocystis suggests that crinoid arms were derived from a specialized blastozoan ambulacral system that lost feeding brachioles and strongly suggests that crinoids are nested within blastozoans.  相似文献

1. A glycoprotein: fucosyl-transferase activity was demonstrated in sheep cerebral cortex, using desialylated fetuin as exogenous acceptor and detergent Trition X 100 for solubilization.
2. Addition of Triton X 100 to the membrane suspension gave first an activation then a solubilization of the cerebral fucosyl-transferase.
3. Hydrophobic chromatography was investigated for purification of the enzyme. Binding was effective using alkyl-agarose chromatographic columns with two or more than two atoms of carbon, but elution was only possible with ethyl and butyl-agarose.
4. Combination of subcellular fractionation and hydrophobic chromatography on ethylagarose led to a 30 fold purification.
5. After ethyl-agarose chromatography, some properties of fucosyl-transferase were studied: the optimal temperature was 25°C. The optimum pH was about neutrality. Light activation was observed with Mn2+ concentration below 1 mM.
6. Homogeneity was tested using Ultrogel chromatography, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and ultracentrifugation.
7. It was concluded that ethyl-agarose hydrophobic chromatography easily bind a few solubilized proteins (about 20 per cent of the ST supernatant). When elution was performed, these proteins, including fucosyl-transferase, were released from ethyl-agarose columns as a stable aggregate, only dissociated with lower ionic strength.
Ethyl-agarose fraction (eluted with KCl 120 mM) showed homogeneity:
— with Ultrogel AcA 22 chromatography (Mw = 300.000).
— with polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis without S.D.S.
— with the analytical ultracentrifugo giving Mw = 280.000; S20 = 10.
But after dialysis overnight against a buffer without KCl, ultracentrifugation technics showed no homogeneity. Futhermore, SDS gel electrophoresis gave more than four bands.  相似文献
