Grape waste was composted by biodegradation and subsequently used as an organic fertilizer for 20 day-corn. Combinations of recently compressed grape waste and hen droppings (10% w/w) were prepared to study the activating effect of hen droppings and the effect of aeration on the composting process. The final hydrogen potential (pH), %C, %N and C/N ratio, indicated an adequate development of the bioprocess. Satisfactory results were observed when the products were applied at several doses (1,000-4,000 kg/ ha) as a soil conditioner for corn seed germination in greenhouses. Only the addition of hen droppings had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on corn dry matter (14% increase). A dose of 3000 kg/ha was considered as optimal and was used supplemented with triple superphosphate (TSP) in agronomic trials. All the treatments produced greater corn dry matter (P < 0.05) than the chemical industrial fertilizer used as a control (0.52-0.71 g/pot for the organic fertilizers vs 0.45 g/pot for the control). Anaerobic conditions and hen droppings addition significantly produced (P < 0.05) higher corn dry matter.  相似文献

The present study included four successive experiments to determine the chemical composition of the manures and the effects of including varying levels of poultry manure in sheep rations on nutrients digestibility, nitrogen balance and the possible adaptation to the experimental diets as the experimental period was prolonged. Four different poultry wastes were used. These wastes were: pure layer droppings, HELWAN (Experiment I); pure layer droppings, SAKHA (Experiment II); layer litter (Experiment III); and broiler litter (Experiment IV). Three levels of each waste (0, low and high) were tested in the rations of six mature Ossimi fat-tailed rams (two animals for each treatment).Results showed a wide variation in ash and crude protein contents of the different wastes. Layer droppings (HELWAN) contained the highest ash percentage (43·9), while broiler litter contained the lowest (18·8). For crude protein content, broiler litter had the highest value (34·0%) and layer droppings (SAKHA) the lowest (15·4%).Feed intake (g OM per kg0.75 day−1) decreased with increasing level of manure. Water intake and excretion were, in general, related to food and minerals intake. Feed intakes sometimes improved with advancing experimental period. In most experiments, digestibilities of ash and crude fiber increased while those of other components decreased with the inclusion of the waste materials in the diets.In vitro DMD or OMD were lower for diets containing waste materials than the control diets.Results of some rumen liquor parameters are tabulated and discussed.  相似文献

A pilot-scale active aeration reactor was studied for composting food wastes in an open-top container aerated with negative pressure by vacuum. A biological filter bed was used to remove NH(3) from the emission. In addition to monitoring system parameters, the compost stability and fertilizer content were also examined to ensure product quality. The compost temperature rose to above 65 degrees C the first day and maintained at the high temperature fermentation level for 30 days. The pH decreased from the initial 5.2 to 4.3 on the first day and then rose slowly to 7.4 on the 60th day. After 60 days, the C/N ratio dropped from 32 to below 20. The final compost contains 1.6% nitrogen, 0.6% phosphate, and 1.4% potassium with total coliforms below 3 MPN/100mL. Using the biological filter to remove NH3, the emission contains less than 1 ppm of NH3. This system proves to be effective and environmental friendly.  相似文献

Ecologically safe method for improved feather wastes biodegradation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Twenty thermophilic actinomycetes were selected that were able to degrade feather wastes in high degree (87–91%). Increased proteolytic and lipolytic activity and exopolysaccharide production of the strains growing on feathers suggested their important role in the complex process of feathers biodegradation. Highest soluble protein content was determined in the fermented broths of the strains 3H, 8H, 4C, M4, and 27A. Based on data obtained, a mixed culture of three selected thermoactinomycete strains – 3H, 8H and M4, has been designed that considerably improved the feathers digestion process. The addition of feathers from 0.7 to 3% and pH values from 7.5 to 8.5 provided highest soluble protein content in the fermented broth of the mixed culture. It was shown that the hydrolysate obtained after 72 h growth of the mixed culture on feathers is rich in soluble proteins and amino acids including essential ones like lysine, threonine, leucine, isoleucine and valine, and rare ones like threonine, proline and serine. Therefore, the obtained value-added protein hydrolysate could be used for preparation of fertilizers or soil amendments, as well as protein source in animal feeding. To our knowledge, this is first report of using mixed culture of thermoactinomycete strains for improved feathers biodegradation. The proposed ecologically safe method is simple and economically viable thus applicable on industrial scale.  相似文献

Energy plays an important role in the world’s present and future. The best way to absorb the huge increase in energy demands is through diversification. In this context biomass appears as an attractive source for a number of environmental, economical, political and social reasons. There are several techniques used to obtain energy from biomass. Among these techniques, the most commonly used throughout the world is a thermo-chemical process to obtain heat. To optimize the combustion process in adequate reactors, a comprehensive study of the characterization of biomass fuel properties is needed, which includes proximate analysis (determination of moisture, ash, volatile and fixed carbon content), ultimate analysis (C, H, N, S and O composition) and calorimetry, focusing on biomass fuels obtained in Spain.  相似文献

Acid-hydrolysis of fish wastes for lactic acid fermentation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this study, two acid-hydrolysis processes, process A and process B, were proposed to produce low-cost nutrients for the production of lactic acid. Process A was a direct way to hydrolyze protein with diluted acid while process B was process A plus fish wastes pretreatment (an extraction by water). The two methods could both treat fish wastes to be suitable nutrient sources for promoting lactic acid production. As the pretreatment indicated some favorable effect on fish waste hydrolyzate (FWH), process B increased lactic acid productivity by 22%. Compared with 20 g/L yeast extract (YE), 6.8% FWH hydrolyzed by process B had more efficiency in lactic acid production, indicating that process B was suitable to produce high performance nutrients for lactic acid production and FWH hydrolyzed by process B would be an substitute for YE.  相似文献

Species are the fundamental units of biology, ecology and conservation, and progress in these fields is therefore hampered by widespread taxonomic bias and uncertainty. Numerous operational techniques based on molecular or phenotypic data have been designed to overcome this problem, yet existing procedures remain subjective or inconsistent, particularly when applying the biological species concept. We address this issue by developing quantitative methods for a classic technique in systematic zoology, namely the use of divergence between undisputed sympatric species as a yardstick for assessing the taxonomic status of allopatric forms. We calculated mean levels of differentiation in multiple phenotypic characters – including biometrics, plumage and voice – for 58 sympatric or parapatric species‐pairs from 29 avian families. We then used estimates of mean divergence to develop criteria for species delimitation based on data‐driven thresholds. Preliminary tests show that these criteria result in relatively few changes to avian taxonomy in Europe, yet are capable of extensive reassignment of species limits in poorly known tropical regions. While we recognize that species limits are in many cases inherently arbitrary, we argue that our system can be applied to the global avifauna to deliver taxonomic decisions with a high level of objectivity, consistency and transparency.  相似文献

This article proposes that microbiological criteria should only be drawn up and applied to foods if there is a full understanding and consideration of raw material selection, production process, packaging and finished product characteristics. The combined knowledge and expertise of public sector microbiologists and food industry microbiologists and technologists need to be harnessed in the establishment of such criteria. In this manner, microbiological criteria could be derived to the overall benefit of the consumer.
A meeting of the Society for Applied Bacteriology held in November 1994 considered the issue of microbiological standards for foods and, in this paper, the recently formed PFMG presents an opinion on the 'Provisional microbiological guidelines' published by the Food Surveillance Group of the Public Health Laboratory Service.  相似文献

Sewage sludge, with zero recycling rate, poses landfill problems as Semakau island, the dumping site, is rapidly occupied in within a short period of time. Dried sewage sludge was heated at different temperatures ranging from 200 °C to 700 °C over various heating times of 2–5 h. The heated dried sludge (DS) was equilibrated with methylene blue (MB) solutions at different concentration to determine the optimum adsorption time, effect of different heating temperatures of sludge, effect of pH and effect of adsorbent concentration on the percentage of MB adsorbed. The results were compared to a commercial activated carbon (AC) in adsorbing the same MB concentration. The higher heating temperatures the more the DS was able to adsorb MB. DS, which was heated at 700 °C, showed the highest percentage of MB adsorbed of 95%, compared to that of AC, which were 91.20% (Grade 17) and 97.99% (Grade 19), when adsorbing the same initial MB concentration of 10 μmol l−1. However, DS heated at 200 °C for 5 h (DS-200-5) was found to have a ratio of MB adsorbed per power consumption of 21.568 (μmol l−1 kW), the highest ratio among the other sludge samples, making it the most cost effective type of sludge. Overall, DS was able to adsorb MB between 90% and 98% at a wide pH range of 3 < pH < 12, showing the potentiality of DS to remove contaminant from industrial discharge. In addition the reuse of sludge for other environmental application can help to prolong the lifespan of landfill dumping site.  相似文献

The all-trans-β-carotene is a natural pigment used in various industrial fields (food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, etc) and possesses the higher provitamin A activity, in respect to other carotenoids. All-trans-β-carotene is produced industrially by chemical and biotechnological means. For β-carotene biotechnological production in industrial scale mated cultures of Blakeslea trispora, a heterothallic fungus, are mainly used. Despite the intense research for β-carotene production by B. trispora, natural substrate utilization has not been extensively studied. Solid agro-food wastes such as cabbage, watermelon husk and peach peels from northern Greece as main carbon source into submerged B. trispora cultures for carotenoids production, was examined. The media containing only the agro-food waste (2-4) gave a biomass accumulation 7.77 ± 0.4 g/L, while a reference medium 1 with glucose (10 g/L) gave 4.65 ± 0.21 g/L. In another experiments series agro-food wastes were used with corn steep liquor and thiamine (media 6-8), giving a biomass accumulation and total carotenoid volumetric production 10.2 ± 2.41 g/L and 230.49 ± 22.97 mg/L, respectively. These are the higher values reported for solid wastes so far in respect to those obtained from a synthetic medium, with higher glucose concentration of 50 g/L where the correspondent values were 9.41 ± 1.18 g/L and 45.63 mg/L respectively. The results support that B. trispora is able to utilize, almost equivalently, different origin agro-food wastes for carotenoids production. Furthermore, β-carotene percentage in all examined cases was over 76%, as it was estimated by HPLC analysis, suggesting that these agro food wastes may be used for high purity, large scale β carotene production.  相似文献

The thermochemical pretreatment by saponification of two kinds of fatty slaughterhouse waste – aeroflotation fats and flesh fats from animal carcasses – was studied in order to improve the waste’s anaerobic degradation. The effect of an easily biodegradable compound, ethanol, on raw waste biodegradation was also examined. The aims of the study were to enhance the methanisation of fatty waste and also to show a link between biodegradability and bio-availability. The anaerobic digestion of raw waste, saponified waste and waste with a co-substrate was carried out in batch mode under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions.  相似文献
