A long-term monitoring of the upper Váh River was carried out in order to evaluate evolution of water quality by means of ciliate taxocoenoses. One sampling station (Lisková) was located upstream of the pulp and paper mill in the town of Ru?omberok, while two stations (Bystrá and Stankovany) were situated downstream of Ru?omberok. Benthic samples were collected three times a year at each station during 2004–2011. This long-term study enabled us to assemble a comprehensive checklist of ciliates recorded in the upper Váh, and to characterize and compare the ciliate communities in the investigated watercourse. The saprobic index and valency analysis of the ciliate communities allowed us to quantify organic input and to evaluate changes in the saprobity of the upper Váh. The saprobic index ranged from 2.45 to 3.66 corresponding to the quality classes II–IV. Further, there was a prevalence of the α- and β-mesosaprobic levels, but during some periods the polysaprobic level increased along with the decrease of the β-mesosaprobic level. Beside the organic pollution, toxic contaminations were also noticed several times in the studied watercourse. This was documented by a significant drop in the species diversity and abundance of ciliates as well as by various morphological malformations and movement disorders of ciliates and other microorganisms. However, the negative effect of toxic and/or organic pollution wore off relatively quickly, indicating a good self-purification capability of the river.  相似文献

The ciliated protozoan communities in the Llobregat River (Barcelona, Spain) were studied for one year. Samples were taken from 11 different stations. The physical-chemical factors of the water as well as the qualitative and quantitative nature of the ciliate populations were considered. 105 species of ciliates, grouped in 13 orders, were found.The species which constantly appeared at all 11 stations (although not every month) were Litonotus fasciola, Trithigmostoma cucullulus, Cyclidium glaucoma, Glaucoma scintillans, Vorticella microstoma, Oxytricha sp., Stylonychia mytilus, Aspidisca costata and Aspidisca lynceus. The index of diversity at the different stations, and the affinity between the most abundant species, were also determined.  相似文献

Ciliate protozoans were collected from five watercourses belonging to the hydrographic network of the North Apennines (Italy) and flowing into the middle lower section of the river Po from its right bank. Thirteen stations were selected in the meta- and hyporhithron section of the five studied rivers and samples from water–sediment interface were collected during a 1year period. A total of 175 species of ciliates belonging to 97 genera were found, of which 68 were bacterivorous, 58 were algivorous, 26 were omnivorous and 23 were carnivorous. Their distribution varied both with distance along the river and with the time. Community structures were analysed using some statistical methods and this allowed the determination of similarities among stations and relationships between species and stations. The saprobic index and valency methods were used to evaluate the water quality at the 13 stations. Comparisons between the five watercourses indicate that trophic state influences the composition of ciliate communities. The high similarity observed in the unpolluted stations enabled us to define the typical species and the community of the meta- hyporhithron zone. Conversely, polluted stations showed the lowest similarities. Our results confirm that in watercourses the organic load may be the dominating factor able to influence, if not eliminate the diversifying effects of other factors such as those which characterize the longitudinal zonation of the watercourses.  相似文献

Physical-chemical monitoring and characterization of ciliate communities from a full-scale rotating biological system (RBC) have been carried out for a year. RBC system operated efficiently in removing the organic matter, as the decrease of the BOD5 loading along the successive RBC units revealed. 55 species of ciliated protozoa were identified in the RBC biofilms. Differences in abundance, occurrence and type of species were found along the different units of the RBC system; the last RBC held a more stable and diverse ciliate community. The complexity of interspecific relationships among the ciliates has been outlined using multivariate methods (Cluster and Correspondence analysis). Correlation between ciliate species and physical-chemical conditions were obtained by regression analysis. Results show that 12 species of ciliates were related to an optimal efficiency in organic matter removal, Litonotus crystallinus being the most sensitive species. The presence and abundance of Litonotus crystallinus and Acineria uncinata was associated with a decrease in the organic factor. Metopus es was the only species related to a decrease in process efficiency due to its association with an increase in organic factor. The results provide statistical evidence of the use of certain ciliate species as reliable bioindicators in full-scale RBC wastewater treatment plants.  相似文献

Bacterial community structure along the Changjiang River (which is more than 2,500 km long) was studied by using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and clone library analysis of PCR-amplified 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) with universal bacterial primer sets. DGGE profiles and principal-component analysis (PCA) demonstrated that the bacterial community gradually changed from upstream to downstream in both 1998 and 1999. Bacterial diversity, as determined by the Shannon index (H'), gradually decreased from upstream to downstream. The PCA plots revealed that the differences in the bacterial communities among riverine stations were not appreciable compared with the differences in two adjacent lakes, Lake Dongting and Lake Poyang. The relative stability of the bacterial communities at the riverine stations was probably due to the buffering action of the large amount of water flowing down the river. Clone library analysis of 16S rDNA revealed that the dominant bacterial groups changed from beta-proteobacteria and the Cytophaga-Flexibacter-Bacteroides group upstream to high-G+C-content gram-positive bacteria downstream and also that the bacterial community structure differed among the stations in the river and the lakes. The results obtained in this study should provide a reference for future changes caused by construction of the Three Gorges Dam.  相似文献

Common methods of assessing the biological impact of point source discharge involve a census of organisms above and below the discharge. The identification and enumeration of organisms necessary for this approach can be time consuming and costly. When microbial communities are used, identification and enumeration are often impossible because the majority of species are identifiable only when cultured and most native species cannot be cultured. As such, little is known about the response of nonculturable aquatic microbial communities to anthropogenic changes. We isolated aquatic microbial DNA from colonized artificial substrates in two streams receiving industrial waste. DNA was isolated from the microbial communities upstream and downstream of the discharges and the similarity of these communities were compared by DNA-DNA hybridization. These novel estimates of impact were compared to more conventional estimates based on a component of the microbial communities that could be readily identified, the protozoans. Protozoan species were identified and similarity between upstream and downstream stations was assessed using Jaccard's similarity index.In the Roanoke River, protozoan species richness was significantly lower at the downstream station. Both Jaccard's coefficients and DNA hybridizations indicated that upstream communities were more similar to each other than with the downstream site. However, these differences were not significant. Estimates of community similarity from Jaccard's coefficients and DNA hybridizations were not correlated. In Peak Creek, protozoan species richness was significantly lower at the downstream station. Jaccard's coefficients and DNA hybridizations were not significantly higher within upstream stations than between upstream and downstream stations. The two similarity measures were not correlated. Problems in this preliminary study included small sample sizes and highly variable background on hybridization membranes resulting from the use of nonradioactive DNA probe label and detection methods. Alternative approaches using radioisotopes or COT curves may be more viable means of making molecular methods a useful tool in impact assessment.  相似文献

The River Yamuna emerges from Saptarishi Kund, Yamunotri and merge with River Ganges at Allahabad, India. Anthropogenic stress has affected the water quality of the river Yamuna drastically in the stretch traversing Delhi and its satellite towns (National Capital Region, NCR). In the present study, effect of water quality on the microbial life in the River Yamuna was analyzed using ciliate communities (Protista, Ciliophora) as bio-indicators. Water samples were collected from six sampling sites chosen according to the levels of pollution along the river and water quality was analysed using standard physicochemical factors. As the river traverses Delhi NCR, water quality deteriorates considerably as indicated by the Water Quality Index at the selected sampling sites. Seventy-four ciliate species representing nine classes were recorded. Based on the Shannon diversity index, maximum species diversity was found at the point where the river enters Delhi. The saprobity index showed the river water was beta-mesosaprobic when the river enters Delhi and alpha-mesosaprobic at downstream sites after the first major drain outfall. Significant relationship between the spatial variation in ciliate communities and abiotic parameters indicate that ciliates can be used as effective bioindicators of pollution in the River Yamuna.  相似文献

Temperate shallow meso- to eutrophic lakes can exist in one of two alternative states with contrasting foodwebs, referred to as the clear-water and the turbid state. We describe the planktonic ciliate communities of such lakes based on a survey of 66 northwestern European lakes. Ciliates were enumerated and identified to species level according to the quantitative protargol staining technique. Ciliate biomass was on average twice as high in the turbid than in the clear-water lakes. The ciliate communities were dominated by oligotrichs and protostomatids, and no differences in functional composition or α-diversity could be detected between turbid and clear-water lakes, although β-diversity tended to be higher in the latter. At the species level, however, community structure strongly differed between turbid and clear-water lakes, and several indicator species could be identified for the different lake categories. Variation partitioning showed that nutrient status did not explain ciliate community structure independent of the alternative states, while lake area was identified as an additional structuring factor for the ciliate communities. These results stress the importance of the ecosystem structure in shaping ciliate communities in temperate shallow lakes and suggest that nutrient status has little direct effect on ciliate community structure in such lakes.  相似文献

Ciliate community composition was investigated in four subtropical eutrophic lakes with cyanobacterial blooms in three seasons during 2009–2010 using the quantitative protargol staining approach. Among the four lakes, Lake Taihu and Chaohu are situated in the mid-lower Yangtze Plain near sea level, and Lake Dianchi and Xingyunhu are located on the Yunnan–Kweichow Plateau. A total of 102 ciliate species, representing 15 orders and 66 genera, were studied. Ciliate communities in Lake Taihu and Chaohu were characterized by abundant algivorous and mixotrophic oligotrichs and prostomatids, while Lake Dianchi and Xingyunhu ciliate communities were primarily characterized by voracious bacterivorous scuticociliates and peritrichids. Cluster analysis based on the transformed square root of ciliate abundance showed that samples from Lake Taihu and Chaohu composed one group whereas samples from Lake Dianchi and Xingyunhu composed another group in each season. Our results indicated that all dominant ciliate species are ubiquitous and that species dominance is regulated by different factors in different subtropical eutrophic lakes.  相似文献

The ciliate taxa from epilimnion, hypolimnion, and littoral of Lake Kinneret were studied from November to December 1987 during stratification. Two collections of planktonic and benthic ciliates were taken at each of six sampling stations. Benthic ciliates from the littoral zone were collected at seven stations along the lake shore. Densities were determined for each ciliate species and for total protozoans at each station and sampling date. Thirty-six species of ciliates, representing 31 Genera, 18 Orders and 7 Classes, were identified. Planktonic protozoans characteristic of the epilimnion included Coleps hirtus and Vorticella mayeri. The more abundant taxa of benthic ciliates in the profundal of the lake included Saprodinium dentatum, Plagiopyla nasuta and Dexiotricha plagia. The predominant ciliate in the littoral was Pleuronema coronatum. Principal component analysis, performed on the correlation matrix of both sampling stations and species, revealed that epilimnion, hypolimnion, and littoral belt were colonized by different ciliate communities.  相似文献

Ciliated protozoans from sediments of the River Parma (Northern Italy) were collected from 7 stations, selected according to their hydrological, chemical, and physical characteristics, and to river zonation during autumn 1989. Fiftythree species were observed. A saprobic evaluation of the river was made using the taxocenoses observed, and the results were compared with data collected in 1978, when the River Parma still received untreated sewage. In 1989 the hilly section of the stream was found to be more polluted than in 1978, but in the plain section, the saprobic indices were now slightly lower. The marked change in the ciliate community of the hills was accompanied by an increase in organic load, which caused the disappearance of some typical species and dampened the diversifying effects of other environmental factors, producing comparatively similar community structures in that whole zone.  相似文献

A survey was undertaken in 1985 to assess spatial and temporal trends in the benthic community structure in relation to sediment contamination and wastewater sources at 70 stations between Whitefish Bay and lower Lake George in the St. Marys River. Cluster analysis identified seven benthic communities. Three were identified as pollution impacted, based on a preponderance of tubificids and nematodes, usually at high densities (up to 259 000 m-2), but sometimes at low densities (< 100 m-2) at individual stations. Impacted communities occurred downstream of industrial and municipal sources and in depositional areas, and were confined mainly to Canadian waters. Unimpacted communities had greater numbers of taxa, and occurred upstream of point sources, along the U.S. shoreline, and in most areas of downstream lakes. Impacted and unimpacted communities were separated along particle size and contaminant gradients in river sediments. Despite recent reductions in pollutant loadings and improvements in sediment quality, no major changes were apparent in the status of the benthic community from earlier surveys.  相似文献

The aim of this research was to study the ciliated protozoa community at three sampling stations that receive different levels of domestic sewage along the S?o Pedro Stream in the municipality of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in order to determine the influence of organic pollution on this community and to assess the feasibility of using ciliates as water quality indicators. Four physical-chemical parameters of the water samples were evaluated: dissolved oxygen concentration, electrical conductivity, pH and temperature. The sediment was obtained manually, using dredges with capacity of 300 mL, at each collection point. Point 1 was located in a rural region that receives a low sewage load, while Points 2 and 3 were located in populated regions receiving high sewage loads. We found 22 ciliate species, of which 18 are included in the saprobic system and are considered bioindicators. These showed beta-mesosaprobic environments at Point 1 and alfa-mesosaprobic to polisaprobic environments at Points 2 and 3. The low levels of dissolved oxygen and the high electrical conductivity values at Points 2 and 3, together with the strong similarity between the ciliate taxocenoses of these points and the weak similarity between Point 1 and the other two, confirm the high sewage loads received at the latter two points. The combination of the biological indicators and physical-chemical analyses therefore proved itself to be an efficient method of evaluating water quality, and has excellent potential to support decisions on the conservation of headwaters and recuperation of degraded environments in lotic systems.  相似文献

The ranges of three alien fish species (rotan Perccottus glenii, sunbleak Leucaspius delineatus, and bleak Alburnus alburnus) in the Ob River basin, West Siberia, have expanded. Our data prove the expansion of rotan and sunbleak ranges to the north. In particular, for the first time, populations of rotan are reported from the lower section of the Ob. We also present new data about range expansion of the studied fish species southward. All three species have probably reached the southern limits of their possible distribution in the Upper Ob system, entering the potamon/rhithron transition zone, because the species under study prefer lowland waters. The spatio-temporal dynamics of their expansion reveals the role of the Ob River as the main invasion corridor, enhancing their distribution mostly in meridional direction. In the system of the Upper Ob, rotan and sunbleak were found by us in isolated ponds and lakes, as well as in floodplain systems. This is in agreement with the concept of two invasion vectors: the translocation of fish by humans between water bodies and self-distribution along the river courses.  相似文献

为研究退牧还草对土壤纤毛虫群落特征的影响、退牧还草后土壤环境变化以及如何利用原生动物纤毛虫群落特征来评价退还效果的可行性,于2015年5月至2016年3月在甘肃省甘南藏族自治州玛曲县选取3个不同恢复年限的草地样点和1个未经过退牧还草对照样点,采用"非淹没培养皿法"、活体观察法和培养直接计数法对土壤纤毛虫的物种数和密度进行测定,同时测定了土壤温度、pH值、含水量、土壤孔隙度、速效钾、速效氮、速效磷、全氮、全钾、全磷和有机质含量,并分析了在生态逐渐恢复条件下,土壤纤毛虫群落特征与土壤环境因子间的相关性。研究共鉴定到纤毛虫95种,隶属9纲15目21科28属。研究发现,退牧还草样地与未退牧还草样地的土壤纤毛虫的物种分布存在明显差异:退牧还草后的3个样点间的物种相似性减小,群落组成复杂化,纤毛虫丰度、丰富度指数、均匀度指数和物种多样性指数增高。相关性分析结果表明,退牧还草后,对纤毛虫群落结构稳定性影响最主要的是土壤有机质、含水量和土壤全氮、全磷和全钾的含量,不同恢复年限样点的土壤纤毛虫群落组成差异较大。土壤纤毛虫群落对退牧还草生态恢复过程中土壤环境条件的变化有较好的响应。  相似文献

The planktonic ciliate populations of 30 Florida lakes constituting a broad trophic gradient were examined to determine the response of protozoan community structure to increasing eutrophication. Both ciliate abundance and biomass were strongly related to lake trophic state. Comparison of the Florida data base with a comparable north temperate lake group indicated that subtropical lakes generally possess higher ciliate abundance and biomass at a given trophic state than temperate lakes. However the equations derived for each data base were not significantly different. Community diversity and species richness increased with increasing lake productivity. Highly acidic lakes displayed significantly reduced diversity and numbers of species when contrasted with nonacidic oligotrophic lakes. Small-bodied (< 30 um) ciliates dominated all lakes but were proportionally less important in oligotrophic lakes. Presence-absence data produced three assemblages: an ubiquitous association of primarily small ciliate taxa, a group of large ciliates mainly restricted to eutrophic-hypereutrophic lakes, and a very large ciliate,Stentor niger, which dominated the protozoan communities of acidic oligotrophic lakes.  相似文献

在滇西北三江并流地区典型干旱河谷段, 在怒江、澜沧江和金沙江的东、西坡共设置了6条海拔梯度样带, 通过标准样地的植物群落调查, 分析各条样带植物的物种丰富度、物种更替率的海拔梯度格局, 并比较了地理和植被变量对分布格局的解释。干旱河谷植被带位于海拔3,000 m以下, 以灌丛和灌草丛为主, 其在各河谷的分布上限自西向东依次升高。植物物种丰富度的分布主要与海拔、流域、经纬度和植被带有关, 沿纬度和海拔梯度升高而显著增加的格局主要表现在草本层和灌木层, 灌木物种丰富度还呈现自西向东显著增加的趋势。怒江的灌木和草本种物种丰富度显著高于金沙江和澜沧江, 三条江的乔木种丰富度差异则不显著。森林带的样方草本物种丰富度显著低于灌草丛带样方, 并且还拥有后者没有的乔木种。不同样带的植物物种更替速率呈现了不一致的海拔梯度格局, 但均在样带海拔下部的灌草丛群落与海拔上部森林群落之间的交错带出现峰值。森林-灌草丛植被交错带在怒江样带处于海拔1,900-2,100 m处, 在澜沧江河谷位于海拔2,300-2,400 m, 在金沙江河谷位于海拔2,700-2,900 m。所有海拔样带的森林段或灌草丛段相对于同一样带不同植被段之间的物种更替程度为最小, 不仅小于同一流域不同样带相同植被段之间物种更替率的均值, 更小于所有样带相同植被段之间的更替率均值。在三条河流6条海拔样带的12个植被带段之间的物种更替变化中, 空间隔离因素可以解释34.2%, 而植被类型差异仅能解释不到0.5%。本研究结果显示了环境差异对不同植被类型物种丰富度的首要影响, 和各河流之间的空间隔离对植物群落构建和物种构成的主要作用。  相似文献

The Arga River is an interesting system in which to study the impact of urban effluent pollution because it receives a single effluent in the form of wastewater discharge from the city of Pamplona. To analyze the extent of this discharge, total bacteria, culturable heterotrophic bacteria, and Gram-negative heterotrophic bacteria were enumerated and 409 isolates of the latter were identified. One sampling station was located upstream from the inflow, while five were located up to 30 km downstream. Bacterial counts increased drastically downstream from the wastewater inflow. Total bacterial numbers decreased along the 30 km downstream, the last station attaining similar values to those recorded upstream from the discharge. However, culturable heterotrophic and Gram-negative heterotrophic bacteria levels generally remained significantly higher within the 30 km zone investigated. Among the 409 isolates identified, Aeromonas spp. were the most frequent both upstream and downstream from the discharge. In contrast, although strains belonging to different genera of Enterobacteriaceae were found in all stations, their occurrence was significantly higher just downstream from the polluted discharge. Acinetobacter spp., which were never found upstream, were detected in all stations below the discharge. Our results clearly show that the bacterial community structure changes definitively downstream from the discharge and that Aeromonas were common throughout the sampling zone. Thus they cannot be considered good indicators of pollution in this setting compared to some genera of Enterobacteriaceae or some species of Acinetobacter, the distribution of which correlated better with the distance from the wastewater discharge.  相似文献

对香溪河流域3座梯级水库(古洞口一级水库、古洞口二级水库和三峡水库香溪河库湾)的底栖动物进行了比较生态学研究。运用主成分分析(PCA)对梯级水库的水质进行研究,表明沿着水库的梯度水质逐渐恶化。运用非度量多维标度法(NMS)对梯级水库的底栖动物群落结构进行相似性比较,表明选择水库湖泊区的样点进行梯级水库底栖动物生态学研究具有典型代表性。在物种组成和密度方面,古洞口一级水库和香溪河库湾都是寡毛类占优势,古洞口二级水库是摇蚊幼虫占优势。但3个水库都是耐污种占优势。采用典型对应分析(CCA)解析底栖动物群落结构与环境因子的关系,显示3个水库群落结构的差异主要由浊度造成。用TOC/Turb来表征有机物对浊度的贡献,结果显示古洞口二级水库有机物对浊度的贡献相对较小,因而表明泥沙等无机物对浊度的贡献相对较大。  相似文献
