Two cellulolytic clostridia, one thermophilic and the other mesophilic, were isolated and characterized. Cells of the thermophile are gram-negative rods that are motile with lophotrichous flagella and spherical terminal endospores which swell the cells. The optimum growth temperature is 55 to 60 degrees C, with a range of 40 to 65 degrees C. The deoxyribonucleic acid composition is 35 mol% G + C. The name Clostridium cellulosi sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is AS 1.1777. Cells of the mesophile are gram negative and motile with peritrichous flagella and terminal oval or spherical spores which swell the cells. The deoxyribonucleic acid composition is 34 mol% G + C. The name Clostridium cellulofermentans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is AS 1.1775. Both C. cellulosi AS 1.1777 and C. cellulofermentans AS 1.1775 are deposited in the China Committee for Culture Collection of Microorganisms, Institute of Microbiology, Academia Sinica, Beijing, People's Republic of China.  相似文献

Fourteen strains of a terminal-spored anaerobe were isolated from marine sediments obtained off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of tropical South America. These strains are proteolytic, lecithinolytic, only slightly saccharolytic, often form cells with two spores, and appear unlike any described species of terminal-spored, proteolytic anaerobe. The name Clostridium oceanicum is suggested. The type strain (no. 25647) is deposited in the American Type Culture Collection.  相似文献

Characteristics of an obligate anaerobe isolated from discolored tissues in living oaks were determined. The bacterium was found to be a motile, sporeforming, gram-negative rod which was catalase- and oxidase-negative. The isolate was weakly fermentative and non-proteolytic. Differences in biochemical activities and DNA base composition between the tree isolate and those of recognized species of Clostridia were considered significant enough to propose the new species,Clostridium quercicolum.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Three new species of Eimeria are described from the intestinal contents of a galago Galago senegalensis E. Geoff. imported into the Amsterdam Zoo from Africa. The oocysts of E. lemuris n.sp. are 44-57 by 38-47 μ and contain 4 sporocysts measuring 17-20 by 10.5–14 μ. The oocysts of E. galago n.sp. are 20-25 by 19-23 μ and contain 4 sporocysts measuring 9-12 by 6-9 μ. The oocysts of E. otolicni n.sp. are 23-31 by 22-28 μ and contain 4 sporocysts measuring 10-15 by 8-12 μ. A few Isospora resembling I. arctopitheci Rodhain, 1933 were seen.  相似文献

A new species ofPichia has been described.Pichia besseyi was isolated from a marsh near the town of Bonaventure, Gaspé Peninsula, Quebec, Canada. The hemispheroidal shape of the ascospores of this species is particularly noteworthy.  相似文献
