The cause of differences in overwintering success between the sexes in Orius sauteri (Poppius) and O. minutus (Linnaeus) (Heteroptera: Anthocoridae) was investigated in the laboratory. The survival rate of adults was examined in a screen house outdoors during the winters of 1995–1996 and 1996–1997. None of the males of either species survived until spring in either year. However, 63.9% and 40.5% of the females in O. sauteri and O. minutus, respectively, survived the winter in 1995–1996, and 54.5% and 43.2%, respectively, in 1996–1997. Most of the males died by early winter. In both species, the adult females reared under short days (= L11:D13) survived for a long period at 5 or 0°C, while the males reared under the same photoperiod died shortly after transfer to 5 or 0°C from 22°C. The males and females kept at same temperature conditions under long days (= L16:D8) died early. When nymphs were kept under long days at 22°C, the lipid content in the female and male adults of O. sauteri was 27.9% and 17.7%, respectively. When nymphs were kept under short days, their lipid content was significantly higher (41.1%) than that of those reared under long days for females, but lipid content was comparable in the males regardless of photoperiod (15.6%). In O. minutus, the mean lipid content was 27.2% in females and 19.0% in males under long days at 22°C, and 40.8% in females and 19.8% in males under short days. Thus, a large amount of lipid was accumulated only in females kept under short days in both species. These results suggest that short days induced diapause only in adult females but not in males. Due to the lack of diapause and shortage of lipid accumulation, males may not be able to survive the winter.  相似文献

For up to three days after being treated with the precocene analogue 6-methoxy-7-ethoxy-2,2-dimethylchromene, adult green peach aphids (Myzus persicae) gave birth to offspring (alate and apterous virginoparae, males) which underwent precocious metamorphosis. Only a few precocious gynoparae and no precocious oviparae were recorded. The precocious aphids became adultoid in the third or fourth-instar as a result of corpus allatum destruction. They were able to develop mature embryos, but could not deposit them because of incomplete differentiation of the reproductive tract. The treatment did not induce the production of alate virginoparae in the experimental clone of Myzus persicae. However, a few males were born late in the reproductive sequence of treated apterae. The corpora allata of the treated adults appeared on histological examination to be unaffected by precocene.  相似文献

Gibbons of both sexes have been observed emigrating from their natal groups, but the consequences of dispersal in gibbons are poorly understood, and it is unclear whether these are the same for both sexes. I sequenced a 350-bp fragment of mitochondrial DNA from 18 adults in seven siamang (Symphalangus syndactylus) groups at the Way Canguk Research Station in southern Sumatra to assess patterns of matrilineal relatedness among and within siamang groups, and to assess their fit with different patterns of sex-specific dispersal. A total of 11 haplotypes were identified in the seven study groups; 50% of adult males in five contiguous groups shared a haplotype with a member of an immediately adjacent group, whereas only 16.7% of females shared a haplotype with a neighbor. The apparent difference persisted if only same-sex individuals were considered (37.5% of males vs. 0% of females). Four of the seven study groups contained two adult males and a single adult female. In three multimale groups, the three adults all had different haplotypes, suggesting that neither male was the retained adult offspring of the female, whereas in the fourth group, the haplotype of one male was identical with that of the adult female. The high diversity of haplotypes and the absence of clustering among female haplotypes in the study neighborhood suggest that female dispersal to territories adjacent to the natal group may be relatively rare. The presence of some clustering of male haplotypes suggests that shorter dispersal distances may be more common in males.  相似文献

通过室内饲养和连续观察,研究了食物、温度对引进花角蚜小蜂成虫寿命的影响及其羽化的时间节律.结果表明:食物对该寄生蜂成虫寿命有极显著影响,喂食20%蜂蜜或20%蜂蜜+新鲜松针可将雌虫寿命从不喂食的1.5 d延长到14.8 d和17.3 d,将雄虫寿命从不喂食的1.5 d延长到11.3 d和12.3 d.喂食20%蜂蜜条件下,温度也表现出极显著影响,23 ℃和26 ℃下雌、雄成虫的寿命均明显较长,32 ℃下均最短,相同温度下雌虫的寿命显著长于雄虫.日周期中,雌虫主要在11:00-15:00羽化,18:00以后基本不羽化;雄虫主要在9:00-12:00羽化,17:00以后基本不羽化.在花角蚜小蜂的主要羽化期7-9月,7月羽化量最大 ,此后8、9月呈波浪式递减;单日羽化的成虫中,雌虫大多占80%以上,雄虫则长期在一个较低水平波动.对比试验发现,花角蚜小蜂在收蜂棚中的出蜂量比在收蜂箱中更大.花角蚜小蜂在羽化前积累的能量十分有限,人工放蜂前提供必要的营养补充将有助于提高生物防治效果.福建和广东夏季的高温、花角蚜小蜂雌成虫和松突圆蚧雌成蚧虫口高峰期不吻合、极高的雌性比例等是影响该寄生蜂种群稳定的潜在因素.收蜂棚有利于大量收集花角蚜小蜂,适合在生产上应用.  相似文献

马尾松腮扁叶蜂Cephalcia pinivora Xiao et Zeng是腮扁叶蜂属的一个新种[1]。主要分布在重庆和四川等地,严重危害马尾松。在重庆1年1发生代,成虫发生期约80d,3月中旬开始羽化,雄虫先羽化出土,雌虫在羽化高峰期才开始出土。未交配雌虫能孤雌生殖。用2.5%溴氰菊酯等7种烟剂喷烟和3‰溴氰菊酯粉剂对成虫进行防治试验,结果表明,成虫羽化盛期后3~5d(4月上旬)是防治成虫的最佳时机,烟剂防治效果好的可达80%以上,粉剂效果也可达86%以上。  相似文献

ABSTRACT. Copulatory responses to a variety of decoy objects baited with synthetic 15,19,23-trimethylheptatriacontane were induced in adult male Glossina morsitans morsitans Westw., provided the object was of similar shape and size to a female fly. Chemical and configurational (shape and texture) stimuli were important in eliciting and maintaining copulatory behaviour of males. A dose/response relationship was obtained from 7-day-old test males, with an ED95 of 2 μg using as decoys solvent-washed dead males baited with 15,19,23-trimethylheptatriacontane. The quantity of this compound in 5-day-old adult females is more than 4.0 μg; in males, only 0.6 μg. It is considered to have the characteristics of a true contact sex pheromone for the species, and does not act synergistically with other less stimulatory synthetic compounds. Gas chromatographic analysis of adult female cuticular paraffins of G.m.morsitans showed the presence of two large peaks between C37 and C38 which were virtually absent in males. Young adults of both sexes possessed a series of hydrocarbons below C29 which disappeared during the first few days of adult life. The natural pheromone appears on the pharate adult female about 2 days before emergence from the puparium and is present throughout life. This suggests it is a component of the surface cuticular waxes. Responsiveness of males to pheromone-baited decoys increased to a maximum 3–4 days after emergence in regularly fed flies and only declined during the 24 h prior to death from starvation.  相似文献

Social investigatory behaviour was used as a measure of olfactory recognition in two experiments to assess social memory in adult male rats. In Experiment 1, time spent in social investigation of juvenile males by 3-month-old adults was significantly higher than time spent by 7- and 11-month-old animals. Furthermore, a reexposure to the same juvenile male 30 min after the initial exposure elicited significantly less social investigation in adult males aged 7 and 11 months but not in those aged 3 months. If the reexposure occurs 2 h later, the same juvenile is thoroughly investigated by adult males irrespective of the age. The age-related differences in social recognition are discussed in terms of the internal readiness of adult males. While the social recognition was confirmed in older adult males, it is suggested that an ability to recognize the same juvenile may be masked in young animals by a high sexual arousal. Behavioural phenomenon of the social recognition was used in Experiment 2. An administration of hypothalamic MIF-I or its synthetic derivative Alaptide to adult males 7 or 11 months old immediately after their 1st exposure to a juvenile male resulted in decreasing the time spent in social investigation of the same juvenile during a reexposure performed 120 min later. Both drugs were ineffective if adult males were reexposed to a novel juvenile. The results suggest that both MIF-I and Alaptide improved an animal's capacity to store information received through olfactory cues.  相似文献

The developmental prolactin-releasing effect of Tryptoline (T), Methoxytryptoline (MT) and Hydroxytryptoline (OHT) was examined comparatively in male and female rats. A single injection of T 15 mg/Kg increased serum prolactin in both sexes; the increase was significant from day 20 onwards. OHT evoked a sharp rise in 12 day-old rats and the releasing effect increased with age, both in males and females. No significant sex differences were observed in T or OHT treated rats. MT caused an increment in prolactin secretion in male rats and this action increased with age. The releasing effect of MT was not significant in females, even at 38 postnatal days. In adult animals, the tryptolines (15 mg/Kg) were able to increase serum prolactin in males and in females in diestrous; a dose of 5 mg/Kg of T was only effective in adult male rats. The prolactin-releasing effect was drastically reduced by orchidectomy and by ovariectomy. LH, FSH and TSH were not modified by any treatment. The present results show for the first time the ontogeny of the prolactin-releasing effect of tryptolines in male and female rats and that this effect depends on the presence of gonadal secretions in adults.  相似文献

The capacity of different phases of the life cycle of Trichinella spiralis to induce rapid expulsion was examined. The phases examined included enteral preadults, enteral adults, and parenteral larvae. All had the ability to induce rapid expulsion although there were significant quantitative differences in their inductive capacity and in the kinetics of expression. Immunization with preadults required only a 48-hr enteral exposure to 2000 worms to induce strong rapid expulsion. In contrast rats required a 14-day exposure to adult worms to elicit a comparable response. After immunization with adults the reaction was demonstrable for only 2 weeks. Parenteral larvae produced only a weak rapid expulsion reaction by themselves and this response did not develop until some 8 weeks after challenge. When immunization with the enteral phases (preadult and adult) was combined with exposure to parenteral larvae a strong and enduring rapid expulsion reaction was observed. Phase specificity was also observed in the susceptibility of worms to the rapid expulsion response. The preadult phases, from infectious larvae to worms of up to 2 days of age were highly susceptible. Older worms, from 3 to 4 days old were not susceptible to rapid expulsion and could invade and establish themselves in the primed intestine for at least a 48-hr period without apparent adverse effects.  相似文献

Four groups of squirrel monkeys were observed to determine the primary basis of adult group structure. These studies included observations on (1) intact and gonadectomized males and females during and after breeding; (2) intact adults only; (3) subadults only; and, (4) a mixed group of adults and subadults. The spatial distribution of subjects in each group was used as a basic measure of social organization. It was found that for adults, regardless of hormonal status, between-sex distances were consistently greater than within-sex distances. This sexually segregated adult structure was largely attributable to the females' attaction to one another and overt rejection of the males. Subadults by themselves did not show any clear sexual segregation. However, in the presence of an adult structure, the subadults gradually manifested the segregated pattern of the adults by gravitating toward same-sex adults. These results indicate that the socialization process, rather than endogenous hormonal status, is the major determinant of adult social structure in squirrel monkeys.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to induce multiple follicular development and superovulation in the olive baboon. Beginning at menses, adult female baboons were treated with hMG for 10 days followed by hCG on day 11. Multiple follicular development was seen in all 19 animals; superovulation occurred in 11 of these. Serum E2 and P levels were consistent with multiple follicular and corpora lutea development, respectively. Ovulated ova were able to be fertilized. These results indicate that olive baboons can be superovulated using a regimen of hMG and hCG, however, development of antibodies against the human hormones precludes restimulation.  相似文献

The technique of mark-release-recapture was used to study survival before and after sexual maturity in adults of the damselfly Pyrrhosoma nymphula (Sulzer). Fewer females were recaptured upon return to water to breed despite no differences in dispersal or daily survival rate between the sexes over the immature period. Because females took longer to mature than males, their poorer recapture rate was attributed to greater overall mortality during their longer maturation phase. Survivorship curves for tenerals marked at emergence suggested that overall survival of immature adults was similar to, if not better than, that of mature adults. The reasons for this are discussed.
Jolly's model was used to estimate daily survival rates for mature adults. The assumptions of the model were tested rigorously. Estimates for females were statistically less reliable than those for males. Mean reproductive spans for males and females were 6.8 and 6.6 days, respectively, giving mean total adult lifespans of 19.4 days and 21.6 days for individuals surviving the maturation period.
Because neither sex visited the breeding site every day, sampling exclusively at water resulted in underestimation of mean reproductive spans for both sexes. Female reproductive spans were underestimated to a greater extent; because females remain away from water longer between visits, there is a greater chance that they will die before being recaptured.
Mean reproductive spans were also underestimated when only a sub-section of the habitat was sampled. Females were significantly more mobile than males and this increased the likelihood that they would move out of the study area, resulting in more severe underestimation. The importance of obtaining accurate estimates of mature lifespan for females is discussed.  相似文献

Little is known about the occurrence of individual variation in sexual behavior and how maternal nutrition can affect this variation. We tested the hypothesis that male offspring of female meadow voles, Microtus pennsylvanicus, that were 30% food restricted (FR) during days 1–7 of lactation (FR 1–7), days 8–14 of lactation (FR 8–14), or late days 15–21 of lactation (FR 15–21) lactation show persistent, negative effects on their sexual behavior as adults relative to male offspring of females that were not food restricted. We measured three components of sexual behavior, attractivity, proceptivity, and receptivity, beginning when the males were 98 d of age. Food restriction during middle lactation (FR 8–14) but not during early (FR 1–7) and late lactation (FR 15–21) was sufficient to induce adult male voles to produce anogenital marks that were not as attractive as those produced by control males. Food restriction during lactation did not affect the proceptive behavior of male voles but did affect their receptivity. Only four of 12 FR 8–14 male voles mated compared to nine of 12 FR 1–7 males, eight of 12 FR 15–21 males, and eight of 11 control males. However, no differences existed in their copulatory behavior among the males that did mate. The body weight of FR 1–7 and FR 8–14 males was lower than that of FR 15–21 and control males when they were between 22 d of age (weaning) and 48 d of age (puberty) but was similar when the males were 98 d of age. Food intake was similar for the FR and control males between day 22 and day 98. It remains unclear, however, whether this type of maternal effect represents strategic programing of offspring behavior in response to the environment experienced by mothers or is a product of developmental processes of food restriction prior to weaning (Evolution 58 , 2004, 2574).  相似文献

对4只佩戴无线电颈圈的羚牛进行直接观察的结果表明,羚牛群体的结构和组成是经常发生变化的。在羚牛各集群类型中,家群的稳定性最高,社群次之,混合群较差。虽然家群具有较高的稳定性,但是除母牛及其幼仔外,家群的其它成员也经常变化,羚牛的亚成体也不是构成家群的稳定成员。繁殖是羚牛集群类型变化的主要原因之一。在繁殖期中健壮的成年雄性个体因寻找配偶离开原群,在各群间游荡,成为羚牛群中最不稳定的成员。亚成体在其母亲产下幼仔后可能会中断与母牛间的关系,进入混合群和社群。羚牛反捕食策略和护幼行为也会影响羚牛群的分群和重组。  相似文献

Dominance relationships were studied in captive Arctic blue fox (Alopex lagopus) groups comprising adults (four males, five females) and juveniles (four males, five females). The results showed that Arctic blue foxes easily formed a social organization with an observable hierarchy, in which adults typically dominated over juveniles. Within the same age group, males usually dominated over females. Dominance correlated most significantly with body weight in autumn, but later that correlation decreased. Urine marking activity was very low during autumn and early winter, but increased significantly prior to and during the breeding season when aggressive encounters were also most pronounced. In addition to several adults, the social status of some juveniles was high at breeding time. Altogether 7 out of 11 females (63.6%) whelped, but the survival rate of litters was low and kits of only two adult females survived (18.2%). It can be concluded that hierarchical development and reproduction in Arctic blue fox groups are markedly influenced by dominance relationships.  相似文献

Studies on the effect of a juvenoid, DPE-28 (2,4-dinitrophenyl-2',6'-di-tertiarybutyl phenyl ether) on biology and behaviour of Cx. quinquefasciatus showed that the developmental duration, sex ratio, mating success and blood feeding were considerably affected by the exposure of larvae and pupae to the compound. Exposure of fourth instar larvae to 0.007 (EI90) and 0.0019 (EI50) ppm of DPE-28 prolonged the duration of pupation by 58.6 and 52.4 hr and delayed the adult emergence by 35.4 and 17.7 hr in males and 36.8 and 21.1 hr in females respectively. Exposure of freshly ecdysed pupae to 10 and 5 ppm delayed the adult emergence with respect to the control by 54.3 and 32.4 hr in males and 55.2 and 33.2 hr in females respectively. The sex ratio of the adults emerged from treated larvae and pupae was also affected. The female mosquitoes that survived from the exposed fourth instar larvae and pupae exhibited a low blood engorgement ratio. This depression in blood feeding was more pronounced in adults emerged from treated pupae than that of treated fourth instar larvae. A significant proportion of adults emerged from treated larvae and pupae were able to feed only partially. Mating success of the treated populations declined considerably when crosses were made between the males and females emerged from treated fourth instar larvae and pupae. The adults emerged from treated larvae and pupae showed a significant reduction in the oviposition.  相似文献

Solitary male nymphs of the cockroach Diploptera punctata (Eschscholtz) (Blattaria: Blaberidae) took significantly longer to reach adulthood than males paired with either a male or female nymph or grouped with four other male nymphs since birth. When isolated throughout nymphal development, 15.8% of males passed through 3 stadia before adult eclosion, and the remainder went through 4 stadia. In contrast, 61.3% of paired males became adults in 3 stadia. Males need not, however, be isolated or paired for the entire nymphal period to express isolated or paired patterns of development. About 60% of males paired in just the first stadium or its initial 9 days became adults in 3 stadia, and only 20.4% of males isolated in the first stadium and the first 3 days of the second reached adulthood within 3 stadia. Although the first stadium was a critical period in which social condition determined the course of future development, analyses of covariance showed that isolated males gained less weight than paired ones, not only in the first stadium, but in the second as well. Moreover, the degree of growth of a male in the second stadium, measured as either weight gain or relative growth rate, did not depend on the male's social condition in the first stadium, because isolated second-instar males grew less than paired ones, even when both sets of insects had been paired in the first stadium. Ninety adult males divided in six equal groups were exposed to different photoperiods for 21 days. Exposures included natural light (ca 11 hr), long photoperiod (16L:8D) and short photoperiod (8L:16D). The first three groups received these exposures at room temperature (13-20 degrees C) while the remaining three at raised temperature (36-38 degrees C). Soiled bedding of the above males was introduced in the cages of unisexually housed noncyclic females and their potentiality to induce oestrus was assessed. It was noticed that the bedding of all the males proved to be a stimulus inducing oestrus in the majority of the females during the 7 day exposure. There was no significant difference in the number of females returning to oestrus following exposure to soiled bedding of different males. These results elucidate that environmental factors, especially light and temperature do not influence the production/release of the oestrus-inducing pheromone in wild mice.  相似文献

Laboratory studies were conducted on certain aspects of biology ofDiadegma semiclausum Hellén, a larval parasite of a crucifer pest,Plutella xylostella (L.). Within the range of 15°C to 35°C, the higher temperature, the shorter was the duration of larval and adult stages. Egg hatching and adult emergence were high at 15°C to 30°C but were significantly reduced at 35°C. The higher the temperature, the higher was the proportion of males produced. Temperature threshold was 5.74°C for eggs, 3.80°C for larvae, 5.91°C for pupae and 6.60°C for adults.D. semiclausum oviposition in the first threeP. xylostella larval instars produced more parasite males than females but oviposition in the fourth instar produced significantly more females than males. Parasite adults tended to emerge from their pupae from 06∶00 to 09∶00 hours although some emerged at other hours during the photophase. Adult longevity and production of eggs increased when adults were provided with a food source (honey) compared with no food or provision of water alone. Parasite adults survived and laid eggs for 28 days when provided with food but for only three days when deprived of food.  相似文献

Quantitative changes of cyanoproteins (CPs) in diapause and juvenile hormone (JH) analog treated bean bug, Riptortus clavatus, were analyzed by rocket immunoelectrophoresis (RIE). In diapause-oriented nymphal females and males, CP-A (CP-1, 2 and 3) and CP-B (CP-4) increased and reached a maximum level just before nymphal-adult ecdysis, which was the same in non-diapause female and male nymphs. Both CP-A and B disappeared immediately after adult emergence. After this initial decline CP-4 appeared again in the hemolymph, followed after a few days by CP-1, 2 and 3. CP-A and B then increased slowly but constantly in both diapause female and male adults. Both diapause females and males at day 30 after adult emergence had large amounts of CP-A (CP-1, 2 and 3) and CP-B (CP-4). Treatment of diapause females (day 30) with methoprene induced only CP-1 synthesis and increased CP-A content about twice in both the whole body and the hemolymph, but did not effect on CP-B content. Methoprene treated females developed ovaries which accumulated yolk containing CPegg and vitellin (Vn). In diapause males treated with methoprene CP-A and B were not induced and decreased gradully in concentration, eventually disappearing completely, similar to post-diapause males (30 days after transferred to long day condition) in which CPs were not detected. These results show that methoprene treatment of diapause females and males induced the same dynamical situations of CP-A and B seen in non-diapause adults, i.e. only CP-A was induced in females and CPs disappeared in males. This suggests that CP synthesis is regulated by juvenile hormone.  相似文献
