Initial stability is essential for open reduction internal fixation of intraarticular calcaneal fractures. Geometrical feature of a calcaneal plate is influential to its endurance under physiological load. It is unclear if conventional and pre-contoured anatomical calcaneal plates may exhibit differently in biomechanical perspective. A Sanders’ Type II-B intraarticular calcaneal fracture model was reconstructed to evaluate the effectiveness of calcaneal plates using finite element methods. Incremental vertical joint loads up to 450 N were exerted on the subtalar joint to evaluate the stability and safety of the calcaneal plates and bony structure. Results revealed that the anatomical calcaneal plate model had greater average structural stiffness (585.7 N/mm) and lower von Mises stress on the plate (774.5 MPa) compared to those observed in the conventional calcaneal plate model (stiffness: 430.9 N/mm; stress on plate: 867.1 MPa). Although both maximal compressive and maximal tensile stress and strain were lower in the anatomical calcaneal plate group, greater loads on fixation screws were found (average 172.7 MPa compared to 82.18 MPa in the conventional calcaneal plate). It was noted that high magnitude stress concentrations would occur where the bone plate bridges the fracture line on the lateral side of the calcaneus bone. Sufficient fixation strength at the posterolateral calcaneus bone is important for maintaining subtalar joint load after reduction and fixation of a Sanders’ Type II-B calcaneal fracture. In addition, geometrical design of a calcaneal plate should worth considering for the mechanical safety in practical usage.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of caffeine ingestion on elite judo players’ mood states, simple reaction time, and muscle power during the Wingate test in the afternoon. Ten elite judo players (age: 21.08 ± 1.16 years, body mass: 83.75 ± 20.2 kg, height: 1.76 ± 0.07 m) took part in this study. The performance variables were measured during two test sessions scheduled at 17:00 h, after placebo or caffeine (5 mg/k) ingestion. The results revealed an increase in anxiety and vigour (p < 0.05) and a reduction in simple reaction time (p < 0.005) following caffeine ingestion. However, muscle power and fatigue during the Wingate test were unaffected. It is concluded that afternoon caffeine ingestion has no ergogenic effect on anaerobic performance.  相似文献

This study was designed to assess the effect of sport practice and warm-up duration on the morning–evening differences in muscle power and fatigue during performance of anaerobic exercise and perceptual responses to it. Twenty-two male physical education students – twelve trained (TG) (21.51 ± 1.25 years, 182.17 ± 4.37 cm and 82.88 ± 11.23 kg) and ten untrained (NTG) (23.89 ± 3.17 years, 176.8 ± 2.2 cm and 82.24 ± 8.43 kg) – participated in a crossover randomized study. They were asked to perform a 30-s Wingate test during six experimental sessions (three at 08:00 and three at 18:00 h) after different active warm-up (AWU) durations (5 min, 15 min, or 20 min). The AWU consisted of pedaling at a constant pace of 60 rpm against 50% of maximal aerobic power. Rate of perceived exertion (RPE) was recorded after the AWU and again immediately after the Wingate test. Heart rate and temperature (T) were recorded during each session at rest, after AWU and immediately at the end of the Wingate test. During the Wingate test, peak power (PP), mean power (MP), and the fatigue index were recorded. While the RPE estimations were higher in NTG, no time-of-day effect was recorded in either experimental group (morning or evening). T, PP, and MP were higher in the afternoon than in the morning (p < 0.001 for PP and MP; p < 0.05 for T). Similarly, PP and MP during the Wingate test were significantly higher in the TG than in the NTG (p < 0.001). The morning–evening difference of PP and MP was affected by AWU duration; AWU15 was best in the morning for improving lower limb power for both the TG and NTG, whereas reducing this period to 5 min in the evening was appropriate for TG only.  相似文献

The present study investigated the magnitude of diurnal variation in back squat and bench press using the MuscleLab linear encoder over three different loads and assessed the benefit of an active warm-up to establish whether diurnal variation could be negated. Ten resistance-trained males underwent (mean ± SD: age 21.0 ± 1.3?years, height 1.77 ± 0.06?m, and body mass 82.8 ± 14.9?kg) three sessions. These included control morning (M, 07:30?h) and evening (E, 17:30?h) sessions (5-min standardized warm-up at 150?W, on a cycle ergometer), and one further session consisting of an extended active warm-up morning trial (ME, 07:30?h) until rectal temperature (Trec) reached previously recorded resting evening levels (at 150?W, on a cycle ergometer). All sessions included handgrip, followed by a defined program of bench press (at 20, 40, and 60?kg) and back squat (at 30, 50, and 70?kg) exercises. A linear encoder was attached to an Olympic bar used for the exercises and average force (AF), peak velocity (PV), and time to peak velocity (tPV) were measured (MuscleLab software; MuscleLab Technology, Langesund, Norway) during the concentric phase of the movements. Values for Trec were higher in the E session compared to values in the M session (Δ0.53?°C, P < 0.0005). Following the extended active warm-up in the morning (ME), Trec and Tm values were no different to the E values (P < 0.05). Values for Tm were lower in the M compared to the E condition throughout (P < 0.05). There were time-of-day effects for hand grip with higher values of 6.49% for left (P = 0.05) and 4.61% for right hand (P = 0.002) in the E compared to the M. Daily variations were apparent for both bench press and back squat performance for AF (3.28% and 2.63%), PV (13.64% and 11.50%), and tPV (?16.97% and ?14.12%, where a negative number indicates a decrease in the variable from morning to evening). There was a main effect for load (P < 0.0005) such that AF and PV values were larger at higher masses on the bar than lower ones and tPV was smaller at lower masses on the bar than at higher masses for both bench press and back squat. We established that increasing Trec in the M–E values did not result in an increase of any measures related to bench press and back squat performance (P > 0.05) to increase from M to E levels. Therefore, MuscleLab linear encoder could detect meaningful differences between the morning and evening for all variables. However, the diurnal variation in bench press and back squat (measures of lower and upper body force and power output) is not explained by time-of-day oscillations in Trec.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We have investigated the magnitude of diurnal variation in back squat and bench press performance using the MuscleLab force velocity transducer. Thirty resistance-trained males (mean ± SD: age 21.7 ± 1.4 years; body mass 80.5 ± 4.5 kg; height 1.79 ± 0.06 m) underwent two sessions at different times of day: morning (M, 07:30 h) and evening (E, 17:30 h). Each session included a period when rectal temperature (Trec) was measured at rest, a 5-min standardized 150 W warm-up on a cycle ergometer, then defined programme of bench press (at 20, 40 and 60 kg) and back squat (at 30, 50 and 70 kg) exercises. A linear encoder was attached to an Olympic bar used for the exercises and average force (AF), peak velocity (PV) and time-to-peak velocity (tPV) were measured (MuscleLab software; MuscleLab Technology, Langesund, Norway) during the concentric phase of the movements. Values for Trec at rest were higher in the evening compared to morning values (0.48°C, P < 0.0005). Daily variations were apparent for both bench press and back squat performance for AF (1.9 and 2.5%), PV (8.3 and 12.7%) and tPV (?16.6 and ?9.8%; where a negative number indicates a decrease in the variable from morning to evening). There was a main effect for load where AF and tPV increased and PV decreased from the lightest load to the heaviest for both bench press and back squat (47.1 and 80.2%; 31.7 and 57.7%; ?42.1 and ?73.9%; P < 0.0005 where a negative number indicates a decrease in the variable with increasing load). An interaction was found only for tPV, such that the tPV occurs earlier in the evening than the morning at the highest loads (60 and 70 kg) for both bench press and back squat, respectively (mean difference of 0.32 and 0.62 s). In summary, diurnal variation in back squat and bench press was shown; and the tPV in complex multi-joint movements occurs earlier during the concentric phase of exercise when back squat or bench press is performed in the evening compared to the morning. This difference can be detected using a low cost, portable and widely available commercial instrument and enables translation of past laboratory/tightly controlled experimental research in to main-stream coaching practice.  相似文献

This study evaluated the effects of folic acid (FA) supplementation on growth performance, ruminal fermentation, nutrient digestibility and urinary purine derivatives (PD) excretion in dairy calves. Forty-eight Chinese Holstein male dairy calves at 60 ± 3.2 d of age and 89 ± 5.9 kg body weight (mean ± standard error) were assigned to one of four groups in a randomised block design. Calves in control group were fed basal diet, calves in low FA, medium FA and high FA groups with 3.6, 7.2 and 10.8 mg FA per kg basal diet, respectively. The dietary corn silage to concentrate ratio was 50:50 (dry matter [DM] basis). DM intake and average daily gain (ADG) quadratically increased, and feed conversion ratio quadratically decreased with increasing FA supplementation. Ruminal pH linearly decreased, whereas total volatile fatty acids quadratically increased. The unchanged acetate-to-propionate ratio was due to the similar change in acetate and propionate concentration. Ammonia N content quadratically decreased. Digestibility of DM, organic matter, crude protein, ether extract, neutral detergent fibre and acid detergent fibre linearly increased. Activities of carboxymethyl cellulase, cellobiase, xylanase and pectinase linearly increased, but α-amylase and protease quadratically increased. Abundance of Ruminococcus albus, Ruminococcus flavefaciens and Fibrobacter succinogenes linearly increased, but Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens and Prevotella ruminicola quadratically increased. Urinary total PD excretion quadratically increased. The results indicated that FA supplementation increased ADG, ruminal fermentation and nutrient digestibility with promoted ruminal microbial growth and enzyme activity, and the optimum dose was 7.2 mg FA per kg basal diet for calves.  相似文献

The resistances of xylem vessel walls and perforation plates has been investigated using 18 large-scale physical models made of plastic tubing into which scale models of plates were inserted. Flow of water through vessels was modelled using glycerol instead of water to keep the Reynolds number below 0.1. The technique proved easy, cheap and reliable.Results showed that perforation plate resistance is low compared with the resistance of the walls, whatever the plate morphology; plates only provided 0.6-18.6% extra resistance. Simple plates provided less resistance than scalariform plates, but because they are arranged closer together in vessels, resistance values (1.7-5.1%) overlap with those of scalariform plates. The resistance of scalariform plates varied in a systematic way with their morphology. For a given plate angle, increasing the number of bars increased resistance. For a given bar number, increasing the angle of the plate to the vessel axis also increased the resistance. However, for a given gap between bars, increasing the angle of the plate to the vessel axis decreased resistance. The pancreatic duct-ligated minipig (PL) is an established model of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) with a significant decrease of nutrient digestibility. This study aimed to quantify and compare endogenous losses of nitrogen (N) (ileal and faecal) in minipigs receiving an almost N-free diet. Altogether, 12 Göttingen minipigs (7 PL and 5 control animals) fitted with an re-entrant ileo-caecal fistula were used. In Study 1, ileal digesta was collected over a period of 12 h on seven consecutive days, including one 24 h collection, when animals were fed a diet containing 0.49 g N/kg dry matter (DM). In Study 2, faeces were collected for 10 consecutive days. In Group PL, the amount and DM content of ileal digesta were higher (p < 0.05), while N concentration was lower than in the Control. The ileo-caecal N flux [g/kg DM intake] was about 2.5 times higher in Group PL (5.47 ± 1.15) than in the Control (1.91 ± 0.59) (p < 0.05). The amount of faeces did not differ, but faecal N losses were higher in Group PL (p < 0.05). Endogenous faecal N losses [g N/kg DM intake] of the Control group (1.17 ± 0.72) were comparable with earlier studies, while those of Group PL were 2.6 times higher (3.09 ± 1.34). In contrast, urinary excretion of N did not differ between the Control and Group PL. In conclusion, PEI caused markedly increased endogenous N losses. Therefore, the impact of reduced digestibility of nutrients on endogenous N losses might be relevant for apparent protein digestibility rates and should be taken into account.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to explore the effects of a single 10-mg dose of melatonin (MEL) administration after exhaustive late-evening exercise on sleep quality and quantity, and short-term physical and cognitive performances in healthy teenagers. Ten male adolescent athletes (mean ± SD, age = 15.4 ± 0.3 years, body-mass = 60.68 ± 5.7 kg, height = 167.9 ± 6.9 cm and BMI = 21.21 ± 2.5) performed two test sessions separated by at least one week. During each session, participants completed the Yo-Yo intermittent-recovery-test level-1 (YYIRT-1) at ~20:00 h. Then, sleep polysomnography was recorded from 22:15 min to 07:00 h, after a double blind randomized order administration of a single 10-mg tablet of MEL (MEL-10 mg) or Placebo (PLA). The following morning, Hooper wellness index was administered and the participants performed the Choice Reaction Time (CRT) test, the Zazzo test and some short-term physical exercises (YYIRT-1, vertical and horizontal Jumps (VJ; HJ), Hand grip strength (HG), and five-jump test (5-JT)). Evening total distance covered in the YYIRT-1 did not change during the two conditions (p > 0.05). Total sleep time (Δ = 24.55 mn; p < 0.001), sleep efficiency (Δ = 4.47%; p < 0.001), stage-3 sleep (N3 sleep) (Δ = 1.73%; p < 0.05) and rapid-eye-movement sleep (Δ = 2.15%; p < 0.001) were significantly higher with MEL in comparison with PLA. Moreover, sleep-onset-latency (Δ = –8.45mn; p < 0.001), total time of nocturnal awakenings after sleep-onset (NA) (Δ = –11 mn; p < 0.001), stage-1 sleep (N1 sleep) (Δ = –1.7%; p < 0.001) and stage-2 sleep (N2 sleep) (Δ = ?1.9%; p < 0.05) durations were lower with MEL. The Hooper index showed a better subjective sleep quality, a decrease of the subjective perception of fatigue and a reduced level of muscle soreness with MEL. Moreover, MEL improved speed and performance but not inaccuracy during the Zazzo test. CRT was faster with MEL. Morning YYIRT-1 (Δ = 82 m; p < 0.001) and 5-JT (Δ = 0.08 m; p < 0.05) performances were significantly higher with MEL in comparison with PLA. In contrast, HG, VJ and HJ performances did not change during the two conditions (p > 0.05). The administration of a single dose of MEL-10 mg after strenuous late-evening exercise improved sleep quality and quantity, selective attention, subjective assessment of the general wellness state, and some short-term physical performances the following morning in healthy teenagers.  相似文献

Nikoides schmitti is widely distributed along the Atlantic coast of the Americas, from North Carolina to Bahia, Brazil and Cuba and Guadeloupe; however, the knowledge about their reproductive biology is poorly known. In this study, data such as sex ratio, fecundity, size and volume of the embryos, and brood loss of material collected in July 1997 from Mahahual, Quintana Roo, Mexico is provided. The sample of 728 specimens had a sex ratio of 0.40 males per female. Fecundity (N = 31) of ovigerous females (Stage I) varied from 219 to 817, with an average of 432 ± 177 embryos. The newly extruded embryos of N. schmitti were small (0.41 ± 0.030 mm) and similar in size to those reported for other species of the genus. The mean volume of the embryos changed significantly during development, increasing 60.9% from stages I to III. Embryo loss during incubation was estimated in 32.9%. This study provides baseline information about the reproduction of N. schmitti and contributes to a better knowledge of this species little studied.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Five ruminally and duodenally cannulated Kazakh male lambs (30 ± 2.75 kg) maintained singly in a metabolic cage were used in a 5 × 5 Latin square experiment to investigate the effect of supplementing a ration with five different levels of distillers’ grape residue (DGR) on ruminal degradability, whole tract digestibility and nitrogen (N) metabolism of growing lambs. The rations were isoenergetic and isonitrogenous and contained 0, 3.85, 7.70, 11.55 and 15.41% DGR (DM basis). Each experimental period lasted for 18 d: 10 d for adaptation to the dietary treatment and 8 d for faecal, urinary, ruminal and duodenal digesta sample collections. The outflow rate of ruminal digesta increased (p = 0.032) linearly with the increased level of dietary neutral detergent fibre content, caused by the supplementation of DGR. As a result, the effective degradability of dry matter and crude protein decreased significantly with the treatments. Although the dietary intake of N, duodenal flow of total N, and the endogenous N at the duodenum were not affected by experimental treatments, N fractions in the digesta were altered. Ruminal microbial N decreased (p < 0.01) linearly; in contrast, ruminal un-degradable protein increased linearly (p < 0.01) in response to the increased addition of DGR. Although there was no significant difference in faecal N among treatments, N retention was increased linearly (p = 0.014), owing to the remarkable reduction (p = 0.016) of urinary N excretion with an increasing level of DGR. The results indicate that the DGR has some potential benefits of increasing the supply of bypass protein and of improving the utilisation efficiency of N for sheep. Therefore, the supplementation of DGR in ruminant feeding is recommended at levels not exceeding 10% of the diet.  相似文献

The present study investigated whether increasing morning rectal temperatures (Trec) to evening levels, or increasing morning and evening Trec to an “optimal” level (38.5°C), resulting in increased muscle temperatures (Tm), would offset diurnal variation in repeated sprint (RS) performance in a causal manner. Twelve trained males underwent five sessions [age (mean ± SD) 21.0 ± 2.3 years, maximal oxygen consumption (V?O2max) 60.0 ± 4.4 mL.kg–1 min–1, height 1.79 ± 0.06 m, body mass 78.2 ± 11.8 kg]. These included control morning (M, 07:30 h) and evening (E, 17:30 h) sessions (5-min warm-up), and three further sessions consisting of a warm-up morning trial (ME, in 39–40°C water) until Trec reached evening levels; two “optimal” trials in the morning and evening (M38.5 and E38.5, in 39–40°C water) respectively, until Trec reached 38.5°C. All sessions included 3 × 3-s task-specific warm-up sprints, thereafter 10 × 3-s RS with 30-s recoveries were performed a non-motorised treadmill. Trec and Tm measurements were taken at the start of the protocol and following the warm-up periods. Values for Trec and Tm at rest were higher in the evening compared to morning values (0.48°C and 0.69°C, p < 0.0005). RS performance was lower (7.8–8.3%) in the M for distance covered (DC; p = 0.002), average power (AP; p = 0.029) and average velocity (AV; p = 0.002). Increasing Trec in the morning to evening values or optimal values (38.5°C) did not increase RS performance to evening levels (p = 1.000). However, increasing Trec in the evening to “optimal” level through a passive warm-up significantly reduced DC (p = 0.008), AP (p < 0.0005) and AV (p = 0.007) to values found in the M condition (6.0–6.9%). Diurnal variation in Trec and Tm is not wholly accountable for time-of-day oscillations in RS performance on a non-motorised treadmill; the exact mechanism(s) for a causal link between central temperature and human performance are still unclear and require more research.  相似文献

Stable-carbon and nitrogen isotopic compositions (δ13C, δ15N) of baleen plates of two juvenile and four adult gray whales (Eschrichtius robustus) were examined. High variance in isotopic composition of baleen plates was detected among individuals and, unlike other migratory species of baleen whales examined isotopically, δ13C and δ15N values of most whales showed no regular oscillations. Only one baleen plate reflected the assumed principal Arctic prey (ampeliscid amphipods) during growth on the summer grounds. The rate of baleen growth inferred for one of the juveniles in the last 5 months of life (4.7 mm/week) was similar to the rate calculated previously for a rehabilitating gray whale calf. Autumn corresponded to the timing of the formation of lowest δ15N values measured along plates. We estimate that the baleen length in all adult gray whales recorded around a year of information (1.3 ± 0.3; Mean ± SD). This short period of dietary integration precludes long time series analyses in this species and reflects the extensive wear on baleen plates due to benthic foraging. Handling editor: M. A rapid method for screening the metabolic susceptibility of biofilms to toxic compounds was developed by combining the Calgary Biofilm Device (MBEC device) and Phenotype MicroArray (PM) technology. The method was developed using Pseudomonas alcaliphila 34, a Cr(VI)-hyper-resistant bacterium, as the test organism. P. alcaliphila produced a robust biofilm after incubation for 16 h, reaching the maximum value after incubation for 24 h (9.4 × 106 ± 3.3 × 106 CFU peg?1). In order to detect the metabolic activity of cells in the biofilm, dye E (5×) and menadione sodium bisulphate (100 μM) were selected for redox detection chemistry, because they produced a high colorimetric yield in response to bacterial metabolism (340.4 ± 6.9 Omnilog Arbitrary Units). This combined approach, which avoids the limitations of traditional plate counts, was validated by testing the susceptibility of P. alcaliphila biofilm to 22 toxic compounds. For each compound the concentration level that significantly lowered the metabolic activity of the biofilm was identified. Chemical sensitivity analysis of the planktonic culture was also performed, allowing comparison of the metabolic susceptibility patterns of biofilm and planktonic cultures.  相似文献

We studied the structural and dynamical properties of methane and ethane in montmorillonite (MMT) slit pore of sizes 10, 20 and 30 Å using grand canonical Monte Carlo and classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The isotherm, at 298.15 K, is generated for pressures up to 60 bar. The molecules preferentially adsorb at the surface as indicated by the density profile. In case of methane, we observe only a single layer, at the pore wall, whose density increases with increasing pressure. However, ethane also displays a second layer, though of low density in case of pore widths 20 and 30 Å. In-plane self-diffusion coefficient, D, of methane and ethane is of the order of 10? 6 m2/s. At low pressure, D increases significantly with the pore size. However, D decreases rapidly with increasing pressure. Furthermore, the effect of pore size on D diminishes at high pressure. Ideal adsorbed solution theory is used to understand the adsorption behaviour of the binary mixture of methane (80%) and ethane (20%) at 298.15 K. Furthermore, we calculate the selectivity of the gases at various pressures of the mixture, and found high selectivity for ethane in MMT pores. However, selectivity of ethane decreases with increase in pressure or pore size.  相似文献

During vessel evolution in angiosperms, scalariform perforation plates with many slit‐like openings transformed into simple plates with a single circular opening. The transition is hypothesized to have resulted from selection for decreased hydraulic resistance. Previously, additional resistivity of scalariform plates was estimated to be small – generally 10% or less above lumen resistivity – based on numerical and physical models. Here, using the single‐vessel technique, we directly measured the hydraulic resistance of individual xylem vessels. The resistivity of simple‐plated lumens was not significantly different from the Hagen–Poiseuille (HP) prediction (+6 ± 3.3% mean deviation). In the 13 scalariform‐plated species measured, plate resistivity averaged 99 ± 13.7% higher than HP lumen resistivity. Scalariform species also showed higher resistivity than simple species at the whole vessel (+340%) and sapwood (+580%) levels. The strongest predictor of scalariform plate resistance was vessel diameter (r2 = 0.84), followed by plate angle (r2 = 0.60). An equation based on laminar flow through periodic slits predicted single‐vessel measurements reasonably well (r2 = 0.79) and indicated that Baileyan trends in scalariform plate evolution maintain an approximate balance between lumen and plate resistances. In summary, we found scalariform plates of diverse morphology essentially double lumen flow resistance, impeding xylem flow much more than previously estimated.  相似文献

Water lettuce, Pistia stratiotes, and red water fern, Azolla filiculoides, are floating aquatic macrophytes that have become problematic in South Africa. Two weevils, Neohydronomus affinis and Stenopelmus rufinasus, are successful biological control agents of these two species in South Africa. The aim of this study was to investigate the thermal requirements of these two species to explain their establishment patterns in the field. Laboratory results showed that both weevils are widely tolerant to cold and warm temperatures. The critical thermal minima (CTmin) of N. affinis was determined to be 5.58?±?0.31°C and the critical thermal maxima (CTmax) was 44.52?±?0.27°C, while the CTmin of S. rufinasus was 5.38?±?0.33°C and the CTmax?44.0?±?0.17°C. In addition, the lower lethal temperatures were ?9.85?±?0.06°C for N. affinis and ?6.85?±?0.13°C for S. rufinasus, and the upper lethal temperatures were 42.7?±?0.85°C for N. affinis and 41.9?±?2.52°C S. rufinasus. Using the reduced major axis regression method, the development for N. affinis was described using the formula y?=?12.976x?+?435.24, while the development of S. rufinasus was described by y?=?13.6x?+?222.45. These results showed that S. rufinasus develops twice as fast as N. affinis. Using these formulae and temperature data obtained from the South African Weather Service, N. affinis was predicted to complete between 4 and 9 generations per year in South Africa, while S. rufinasus was predicted to complete between 5 and 14 generations per year around the country. These results suggest that both species should not be limited by cold winter, nor warm summer temperatures, and should establish throughout the ranges of the weeds in South Africa.  相似文献

Pelvic disorders can be associated with changes in the biomechanical properties in the muscle, ligaments and/or connective tissue form fascia and ligaments. In this sense, the study of their mechanical behavior is important to understand the structure and function of these biological soft tissues. The aim of this study was to establish the biomechanical properties of the pelvic floor muscles of continent and incontinent women, using an inverse finite element analysis (FEA). The numerical models, including the pubovisceral muscle and pelvic bones were built from magnetic resonance (MR) images acquired at rest. The numerical simulation of Valsalva maneuver was based on the finite element method and the material constants were determined for different constitutive models (Neo-Hookean, Mooney-Rivlin and Yeoh) using an iterative process. The material constants (MPa) for Neo-Hookean (c1) were 0.039 ± 0.022 and 0.024 ± 0.004 for continent vs. incontinent women. For Mooney-Rivlin (c1) the values obtained were 0.026 ± 0.010 vs. 0.016 ± 0.003, and for Yeoh (c1) the values obtained were 0.031 ± 0.023 vs. 0.016 ± 0.002, (p < 0.05). Muscle displacements obtained in the numerical simulations of Valsalva maneuver were compared with the muscle displacements obtained through additional dynamic MRI. Incontinent women presented a higher antero-posterior displacement than the continent women. The results were also similar between MRI and numerical simulations (40.27% vs. 42.17% for Neo-Hookean, 39.87% for Mooney-Rivlin and 41.61% for Yeoh). Using an inverse FEA coupled with MR images allowed to obtain the in vivo biomechanical properties of the pelvic floor muscles, leading to a relationship between them for the continent and incontinent women in a non-invasive manner.  相似文献

The aim of the study is to assess the efficiency of a novel bioremediation system namely baffled duckweed pond (BDWP) system for the treatment of agricultural drainage water containing pharmaceuticals at different hydraulic retention times (HRTs). The removal efficiencies of acetaminophen (ACT), amoxicillin (AMX), and ampicillin (AMP) increased from 69.3 ± 8.6 to 87.3 ± 3.5%, from 52.9 ± 9.4 to 82.9 ± 5.2%, and from 55.3 ± 7.9 to 90.6 ± 2.8% at increasing the HRT from 6 to 8 days, respectively. However, ACT, AMX, and AMP removal efficiencies were slightly improved at increasing the HRT from 8 to 12 days. Diclofenac (DFC) removal efficiencies amounted to 56.6 ± 11.6, 55.7 ± 11.9, and 28.3 ± 12.9% at an HRTs of 12, 8, and 6 days, respectively. The results showed no relationship between the uptake/absorption of pharmaceuticals fractions and BOD5/chemical oxygen demand (COD) ratio except ACT where R2 was 0.84. The effect of COD/N ratio on the removal efficiency of pharmaceuticals fractions was slight. Additional removal of pharmaceuticals fractions and nitrification occurred in carrier sponge media situated in the last compartment of the BDWP.  相似文献

Ghrelin is an important stomach hormone that influences several metabolic activities and influences growth hormone (GH) release in response to change in energy homeostasis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Ramadan fasting on acylated ghrelin and GH concentrations during a short-term maximal exercise. Eleven male soccer players (age, 22.11 ± 1.3 years; height, 1.76 ± 0.2 m; body mass, 75.3 ± 2.2; mean ± SD) were asked to perform a 30-s Wingate test, during which we recorded the peak (PP) and mean (MP) powers and fatigue index. Measurements were performed in the afternoon at 18:00 h, after three different occasions: (i) one week before Ramadan (BR), (ii) the first week of Ramadan (FWR), and (iii) the fourth week of Ramadan (ER). Blood samples were taken before, immediately and 60 min after the exercise. Our results show that PP and MP were affected by Ramadan fasting with a significant decrease during Ramadan (i.e. FWR and ER) in comparison with ER (p < 0.05). However, no significant difference was observed between BR and FWR (p > 0.05). Also, a significant decrease in body weight and body fat percentage was observed during Ramadan in comparison with ER. From diet record analysis, protein, fat, and carbohydrate decreased significantly during FWR (p < 0.01), often with further decreases by ER. A significant increase in plasma concentrations of ghrelin was observed during the ER (p < 0.001) compared with BR and FWR, and GH levels were significantly higher during ER (p < 0.01) in comparison with BR and FWR. However, the 30-s Wingate tests had no significant effect on plasma concentrations of ghrelin before or during Ramadan. Our study shows that the concentrations of ghrelin and GH change in the last week of Ramadan fasting, though it is unclear if these changes are related to the changes in body composition during Ramadan, or if they are responsible for the change in performance at the short-duration anaerobic test.  相似文献
