The objective was to determine the effect of moderate changes in ambient temperature (TA) on breathing and body temperature in ponies chronically exposed to a TA of 21 degrees C in the summer and 5 degrees C in the winter. Normal (n = 6) and chronic carotid body-denervated (n = 6, 1-2 yr) ponies were studied during 1) winter months over 3-4 days at 5 (control TA) and 23 degrees C and 2) summer months over 2-4 days at 21 (control TA), 30, and 12 degrees C. Neither rectal nor arterial temperature changed with any alteration of TA (P greater than 0.10). Skin temperature (Tsk) always changed by 2-4 degrees C in the same direction as changes in TA (P less than 0.01), and Tsk was the only variable that differed between summer and winter control TA. While breathing room air 24-48 h after TA was altered, pulmonary ventilation (VE) and breathing frequency (f) were approximately 100 and 300%, respectively, above control with elevated TA and approximately 25-50% below control with reduced TA (P less than 0.01). Changes in f were closely related to changes in Tsk. Tidal volume (VT) changed inversely with changes in TA. Generally, while breathing room air, arterial PCO2 (Paco2) did not change from control during the first 48 h of altered TA. In studies when inspired CO2 was elevated VT increased by the same amount at all TA; f increased at low and control TA but decreased at elevated TA; and VE and Paco2 both increased relatively less at elevated TA, but the VE-Paco2 slope was independent of TA.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Mozambique tilapia Oreochromis mossambicus acclimated to 27 degrees C were then held at 19, 23, 27 (control), 31 and 35 degrees C, and were examined for non-specific cellular and humoral responses after 12-96 h. Total leucocyte count decreased significantly when fish were transferred to 19 and 23 degrees C after 48 and 96 h, and when transferred to 35 degrees C over 12-96 h, respectively. Respiratory burst decreased significantly when fish were transferred to 19, 31 and 35 degrees C over 24-96 h, whereas phagocytic activity and phagocytic index decreased significantly when fish were transferred to low temperatures (19 and 23 degrees C) and high temperatures (31 and 35 degrees C) over 12-96 h. Lysozyme activity decreased significantly when fish were transferred to 19 degrees C after 12-96 h, but increased significantly when transferred to 31 and 35 degrees C over 48-96 h. Alternative complement pathway (ACH(50)) also decreased significantly when transferred to 19 and 23 degrees C after 12h, but increased significantly when transferred to 31 and 35 degrees C after 24h. In another experiment, tilapia reared at 27 degrees C were injected intraperitoneally with Streptococcus iniae at a dose of 1 x 10(7)colony-forming units (cfu)fish(-1), and then reared onward at water temperatures of 19, 23, 27 (control), 31 and 35 degrees C. Over 48-168 h, the cumulative mortality of S. iniae-injected fish held in 19 and 35 degrees C was significantly higher than that of injected-fish held in 23, 27 and 31 degrees C. It is concluded that transfer of tilapia O. mossambicus from 27 degrees C to low temperatures (19 and 23 degrees C) after 12h, and transfer of fish from 27 degrees C to high temperatures (31 and 35 degrees C) reduced their immune capability. Moreover, tilapia under temperature stress at 19 and 35 degrees C from 27 degrees C decreased its resistance against S. iniae.  相似文献

The growth curves of one epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) virus serotype (Reoviridae), two Akabane virus strains (Bunyaviridae) and three bovine ephemeral fever (BEF) group viruses (Rhabdoviridae) were determined in Aedes albopictus cells maintained at 15, 20, 28 and 33 degrees C. Ae albopictus cells supported the growth of all the viruses although not necessarily at all temperatures. Because none of the viruses exhibited cytopathic effect in Ae albopictus cells, growth was assayed in baby hamster kidney 21 (BHK21) cells maintained at 37 degrees C. The temperature at which the Ae albopictus cells were maintained had a marked effect on the growth and yield for each virus studied. EHD virus was heat-stable and grew after 4 days at 28 and 33 degrees C, and after 8 days at 20 degrees C. No growth was recorded up to 12 days at 15 degrees C. The two Akabane viruses were heat-sensitive and exhibited different growth patterns. One strain (B8935) showed no growth at 15 degrees C and only minimal growth at 20, 28 and 33 degrees C. The other strain (CSIRO 16) showed growth after 1-2 days at all temperatures with higher titres reached at 15 and 20 degrees C than at 28 and 33 degrees C. The BEF group viruses grew to approximately the same titres at all temperatures. At the higher temperatures (28 and 33 degrees C) most of BEF group viruses had disappeared within 9 days. The development and parasitism of Diaphania hyalinata L. eggs by Trichogramma atopovirilia Oatman & Platner and its thermal requirements were studied at the temperatures of 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 and 33 degrees C. Thirty eggs of D. hyalinata were exposed to three females of T. atopovirilia for 5h at 25 degrees C and incubated at the different temperatures. The developmental time from egg exposure to adult, parasitism viability, number of adults per parasitized host egg and progeny sex ratio were monitored. The developmental time from egg to adult emergence of the parasitoid exhibited inverse relationship to the temperature, lasting 24.12 days at 18 degrees C and 7.36 days at 33 degrees C. Parasitism viability at 24, 27 and 30 degrees C was higher than 90%. The ratio of T. atapovirilia adult produced per egg and its sex ratio were not affected when using D. hialynata as host. The lowest threshold temperature (Tb) and estimated degree-days over Tb required by T. atopovirilia to develop on eggs of D. hyalinata was 11.99 degrees C and 130.42 masculine C, respectively. Considering the temperature regimes of two areas where cucurbitaces are cultivated in Bahia State (Rio Real and Inhambupe County) it was estimated that T. atopovirilia can achieve more than 32 generation per year. The results suggest that T. atopovirilia has potential to control D. hyalinata eggs with better chance of success under temperature regimes ranging from 24 to 27 degrees C that meets the suitable field conditions for cropping cucurbitaces.  相似文献

We have examined the effects of combinations between egg-phosphatidylcholine (EPC) or dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) liposomes with either bovine spermatozoa or oocytes on cellular chilling sensitivity, lipid phase transition temperature (T(m)), and the ability of the oocytes to develop to the blastocyst stage. Spermatozoa and oocytes were exposed to EPC and DPPC liposomes at various temperatures (spermatozoa: 4, 12, 16, and 25 degrees C; oocytes: 4, 16, and 32 degrees C). The membrane integrity of the spermatozoa-control group decreased significantly following exposure to 16 or 12 degrees C, compared to ambient temperature (25 degrees C). In contrast, the EPC-sperm group had a greater resistance to chilling at each temperature and showed a decline in membrane integrity only at the lowest temperatures investigated. However, the DPPC-sperm group was injured significantly at all temperatures tested. Similar to the sperm, oocytes from the control group that were exposed to 16 degrees C were injured more severely than oocytes that were electrofused with EPC or DPPC liposomes. The membrane integrity of the oocytes at 16 degrees C that were electrofused with either EPC or DPPC liposomes was approximately the same as the control group held at 32 degrees C (normalized to 100%), compared to 46% in the control group at 16 degrees C (P<0.01). The transition temperatures of the sperm and oocyte membranes revealed different T(m) for the different liposome treatments. All groups had a significantly higher cleavage rate, as well as increased blastocyst formation when oocytes were exposed to temperatures above or below their T(m). We suggest that the T(m) of spermatozoa or oocytes can be changed by spontaneous association or electrofusion of liposomes with cellular membranes and, consequently, the chilling sensitivity can be altered. The resulting possibility is that embryo development after cryopreservation could be improved with such a method.  相似文献

The electrical and mechanical activities of myocardial strips from Rana pipiens were studied in the steady state at various stimulation frequencies and after a period of rest. The temperature of the bath was varied between + 12 and 35 degrees C. Normal myocardium was compared with that damaged by isoproterenol (ISO). The percentage change of action potential durations (APD50) and isometric force (P) was similar in ISO-damaged and control hearts at various bath temperatures with steady state stimulation rates between 20 and 100/min. At low stimulation rates (3-6/min) the prolongation of the action potential (AP) was more pronounced and the P-decrease was less in ISO-damaged myocardium compared to controls. These differences became more apparent at low bath temperatures. After 10 min of rest, APD50-90 was significantly prolonged in ISO-damaged heart and P was increased by a factor of 2 compared to controls (stimulation rate 20/min). Steady state values, on the other hand, were nearly the same in both groups. These findings are interpreted as indicating a temperature or ISO-dependent increase of electrogenic trans-sarcolemmal Ca2+-uptake during low frequency, or post-rest stimulation, either directly by an increase of the slow inward current (Isi), or indirectly by decreased K+-permeabilities.  相似文献

Regression of isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Cardiac hypertrophy was induced in adult female Wistar rats after 8 days of daily subcutaneous injections of isoproterenol (ISO). Regression from hypertrophy was studied following 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, and 20 days of ISO withdrawal. After 8 days of treatment cardiac mass increased 40%. Following ISO withdrawal, ventricular regression occurred during the first 8 days. After 12-20 days of recovery, a new steady-state heart weight to body weight ratio was established that was 12-13% above the controls. The half-time recovery for heart weight was 3.8 days. Ventricular RNA content was stimulated 76% after 8 days of ISO-induced hypertrophy. During regression RNA content decreased rapidly during the first 8 days with a half-time of 3.4 days. Following 20 days of recovery ventricular RNA was still 31% above the controls. However, myocyte RNA was stimulated 86% following 8 days of ISO treatment and returned to control level after 12 days of regression. Myocardial DNA was increased 23% in the hypertrophied hearts and did not change during the recovery period. Hydroxyproline was increased in the ISO-treated hearts and decreased only slightly during the recovery interval. These data indicate that ISO-induced hypertrophy was reversible while ventricular RNA content only partially recovered. Nevertheless, myocyte RNA showed a large stimulation that was completely reversible at least after 12 days of recovery.  相似文献

When Telenomus nawai Ashmead or Trichogramma ostriniae Pang & Chen (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) was inoculated into intact egg masses of Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) that were covered with a scale-hair layer, T. nawai emerged from 76% of the eggs, while emergence of T. ostriniae was from only 3% of the eggs. When the hair layer was removed before inoculation, the rate by the latter increased to 21%. These observations confirmed that the hair layer effectively protects S. litura egg masses from attack by T. ostriniae, and that T. nawai parasitism is more effective. In order to assess the feasibility of T. nawai as a biological control agent for S. litura, parasitism rate, development time and adult longevity were examined in the laboratory. Emergence of T. nawai was observed in more than 95% of 0- and 1-day-old separated eggs of S. litura, but the rate decreased to 60% and 0% for 2- and 3-day-old eggs, respectively. The emergence rates of T. nawai were near 95% for temperatures in a range from 25 degrees C to 35 degrees C, but decreased to 80% at 20 degrees C. No parasitoids emerged at 15 degrees C. The developmental periods decreased as temperature increased from 20 degrees C to 35 degrees C. The developmental threshold occurred at 13.7 degrees C and 13.9 degrees C, and the effective accumulative temperatures from egg to adult emergence were 149.3 and 147.1 degree-days for females and males, respectively. Mean longevity of the adult females decreased with increasing temperature; 87.0 days at 15 degrees C and 9.5 days at 35 degrees C. The feasibility of the use of T. nawai for controlling S. litura is discussed.  相似文献

Responses of broiler chickens to a high ambient temperature (35 degrees C) were measured in two experiments. In one experiment temperatures were increased abruptly from 21 degrees C to a daily range of 21-35 degrees C whereas, in the other, temperatures were increased more gradually over 6 days. The high temperatures were maintained for 5 h/day. In both experiments, birds exposed to the high temperatures ate less food and gained less liveweight than birds maintained at 21 degrees C. Efficiency of food conversion to liveweight gain and body composition were not affected by high temperature but there was a tendency for thyroid weight to decrease. Overall, the plasma concentration of triiodothyronine (T3) decreased and the plasma concentration of thyroxine (T4) increased, resulting in a decreased T3/T4 molar ratio, during exposure to high temperature. The concentration of plasma growth hormone, but not plasma reverse T3, was increased by high temperature. The initial responses to increased temperature were variable, with birds exposed more gradually adjusting relatively well until the maximum temperature was increased to 35 degrees C. All heated birds readjusted quickly to the daily reduction in temperature to 21 degrees C.  相似文献

1. Broiler cockerels exposed to neonatal heat (35-37.8 degrees C for 24 hr) at 5 days of age experienced significantly lower mortality upon exposure to elevated temperatures (35-37.8 degrees C) at 43 days of age than did cockerels not given neonatal heat exposure. 2. No differences were found between neonatally stressed and neonatal control groups in water consumption, core and surface temperature, plasma T3 and T4, protein or glucose concentration when exposed to juvenile heat stress. 3. Heterophil to lymphocyte ratios were significantly lower in the neonatally stressed than in the neonatal control group when exposed to heat at 44 days of age. 4. The results indicate that lower mortality during periods of high environmental temperature in the neonatally stressed chicks may involve homeostatic mechanisms different from those utilized during acclimation to high environmental temperature.  相似文献

Vaginal temperatures (VT) of crossbred (Japanese Black crossed Holstein-Friesian) beef cows (n = 31) were measured by a data-logging apparatus to obtain serial data from days 0 to 6 before parturition. For both single and twin pregnancies, no significant differences were observed in VT during days 3-6 before parturition. Maternal VT was not affected by maternal weight just after parturition, parity, fetal sex, or total fetal litter weight. Average of twin litter weights for two males (MM) and two females (FF) had the strong positive correlations (r = 0.84; P < 0.05) with maternal VT, whereas twin weights of mixed-gender twins (FM) did not correlate with maternal VT (r = -0.26; P = 0.61). Maternal temperature decreased as weights of the female fetus of FM twins became heavier (r = -0.82; P < 0.05). In contrast, maternal VT of FF and MM twins increased as twin weights increased. We defined when the VT began to decrease before parturition by two different methods. One was the "same hours method" where differences in VT between a particular time of day and the corresponding time of the preceding day were compared when the VT was consistently > or =0.3 or > or =0.5 degrees C for more than 3h. The second method was the "maximum-minimum method" where decreased in the maximum or the minimum values of the day over > or =0.3 and > or =0.5 degrees C were compared to values of preceding day. Onset of decreased VT before expulsion was not different between singletons and twins. In an attempt to define the critical condition in predicting parturition, we estimated assumable predicting probability using the 31 cows that were collected VT. When the parturition occurred within 60 h in the "same hours method" and 72 h since VT was > or =0.3 degrees C and in the "maximum-minimum method", the assumable probability was 100%. In verification experiment under these condition, the "same hours method" had a higher probability of predicting the time of parturition than the "maximum-minimum method", and it was possible to detect the onset of decreased VT at the correct time by the minutes. We concluded that "same hours method" was useful for predicting parturition time in cattle with single and twin pregnancies by the serial measurement of vaginal temperature.  相似文献

Temperature probes were inserted into the stomachs of juvenile American alligators (Alligator mississippiensis) maintained outdoors at ambient fluctuating temperatures. Internal body temperatures (T(b)) were measured every 15 min for two days, and then the alligators were injected with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), pyrogen-free saline, or left untreated. Alligators injected intraperitoneally with LPS exhibited maximum T(b)s 2.6+/-1.1 degrees C and 3.5+/-1.2 degrees C higher than untreated control animals on days one and two after treatment, respectively. T(b)s for these animals fell to within control ranges by day three postinjection. Similarly, mean preferred body temperatures (MPBTs) were significantly higher for LPS-injected alligators on days one (4.2+/-1.8 degrees C) and two (3.5+/-1.6 degrees C) after treatment. Intraperitoneal injection of heat-killed Aeromonas hydrophila, a gram-negative bacterium known to infect crocodilians, resulted in a fever while injection of Staphylococcus aureus (gram positive) did not elicit a febrile response. Injection of LPS in alligators maintained indoors in a constant temperature environment resulted in no increase in internal T(b). These results indicate that alligators did not exhibit a febrile response in the absence of a thermal gradient, and suggest that febrile responses observed are probably behavioral in nature.  相似文献

Hypothalamic neurons are regarded as essential for integrating thermal afferent information from skin and core and issuing commands to autonomic and behavioral effectors that maintain core temperature (T(c)) during cold exposure and for the control of energy expenditure more generally. Caudal brain stem neurons are necessary elements of the hypothalamic effector pathway and also are directly driven by skin and brain cooling. To assess whether caudal brain stem processing of thermal afferent signals is sufficient to drive endemic effectors for thermogenesis, heart rate (HR), T(c), and activity responses of chronic decerebrate (CD) and control rats adapted to 23 degrees C were compared during cold exposure (4, 8, or 12 degrees C) for 6 h. Other CDs and controls were exposed to 4 or 23 degrees C for 2 h, and tissues were processed for norepinephrine turnover (NETO), a neurochemical measure of sympathetic drive. Controls maintained T(c) for all temperatures. CDs maintained T(c) for the 8 and 12 degrees C exposures, but T(c) declined 2 degrees C during the 4 degrees C exposure. Cold exposure elevated HR in CDs and controls alike. Tachycardia magnitude correlated with decreases in environmental temperature for controls, but not CDs. Cold increased NETO in brown adipose tissue, heart, and some white adipose tissue pads in CDs and controls compared with their respective room temperature controls. These data demonstrate that, in neural isolation from the hypothalamus, cold exposure drives caudal brain stem neuronal activity and engages local effectors that trigger sympathetic energetic and cardiac responses that are comparable in many, but not in all, respects to those seen in neurologically intact rats.  相似文献

Most microorganisms isolated from low-temperature environments (below 4 degrees C) are eury-, not steno-, psychrophiles. While psychrophiles maximize or maintain growth yield at low temperatures to compensate for low growth rate, the mechanisms involved remain unknown, as does the strategy used by eurypsychrophiles to survive wide ranges of temperatures that include subzero temperatures. Our studies involve the eurypsychrophilic bacterium Psychrobacter cryopegella, which was isolated from a briny water lens within Siberian permafrost, where the temperature is -12 degrees C. P. cryopegella is capable of reproducing from -10 to 28 degrees C, with its maximum growth rate at 22 degrees C. We examined the temperature dependence of growth rate, growth yield, and macromolecular (DNA, RNA, and protein) synthesis rates for P. cryopegella. Below 22 degrees C, the growth of P. cryopegella was separated into two domains at the critical temperature (T(critical) = 4 degrees C). RNA, protein, and DNA synthesis rates decreased exponentially with decreasing temperatures. Only the temperature dependence of the DNA synthesis rate changed at T(critical). When normalized to growth rate, RNA and protein synthesis reached a minimum at T(critical), while DNA synthesis remained constant over the entire temperature range. Growth yield peaked at about T(critical) and declined rapidly as temperature decreased further. Similar to some stenopsychrophiles, P. cryopegella maximized growth yield at low temperatures and did so by streamlining growth processes at T(critical). Identifying the specific processes which result in T(critical) will be vital to understanding both low-temperature growth and growth over a wide range of temperatures.  相似文献

The intensity of adult diapause in Pyrrhocoris apterus was measured in two series of experiments as the duration of pre-oviposition period at a constant temperature of 25 degrees C after transfer from short (12L:12D) to long day conditions (18L:6D). Higher diapause intensity was induced with a thermoperiod than at constant temperatures. After the induction throughout larval instars 3-5 and during 4 weeks of adult life at short days and a thermoperiod of 25/15 degrees C the pre-oviposition period was 30+/-4 and 26+/-3 days. After induction at constant 25 degrees C the pre-oviposition period was 22+/-3 and 23+/-4 days, while after induction at constant 20 degrees C it was 17+/-4 and 19+/-4 days. Induction at a lower constant temperature of 20 degrees C was thus followed by a less intense diapause than the induction at a higher constant temperature of 25 degrees C. These counterintuitive results are discussed. The oxygen consumption rate measured at experimental temperatures prior to transfer from short to long days was higher at thermoperiodic conditions than at constant temperatures and it was similar at constant 20 and 25 degrees C. Thus, the oxygen consumption rate measured prior to the transfer was highest (indication of the least intense diapause) in the insects that showed later, after the transfer to long days, the longest pre-oviposition period (indication of the most intense diapause). Within the first two days after transfer to constant 25 degrees C, oxygen consumption rate measured at 25 degrees C decreased in the thermoperiodic insects, while it transiently increased in insects from constant 20 degrees C. Two days and later after the transfer, oxygen consumption rate was similar in all groups. Cold hardiness was not correlated with diapause intensity. The low lethal temperature in diapausing insects was correlated with the night temperature during diapause induction.  相似文献

AIMS: To investigate the behaviour of cold-adapted, log phase Escherichia coli exposed to temperatures that fluctuate below and above the minimum for growth. METHODS AND RESULTS: Log phase E. coli cultures were incubated at a constant temperature of 2, 4 or 6 degrees C or with temperatures allowed to increase from those temperatures for 35 min, to 10 degrees C, at 6-, 12- or 24-h intervals, as commonly occurs during retail display of chilled foods. At suitable intervals for each culture, the optical absorbance value was determined using a spectrophotometer, the forward angle light scatter was determined using a flow cytometer, and portions were spread on plate count agar for enumeration of colony forming units (CFU). Numbers of CFU decreased by 3 log units or increased by 1 log unit for cultures incubated at 6 degrees C for 17 days without or with temperatures fluctuations at < or =12-h intervals, respectively. Cells elongated when cultures were incubated at 4 or 2 degrees C with temperatures fluctuating at 6-h intervals, and at 6 degrees C at constant or fluctuating temperatures, but cells did not elongate in cultures incubated at a constant temperature of 2 or 4 degrees C. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The minimum growth temperature of E. coli is assumed to be > or =7 degrees C. Elongated cells were able to divide when temperatures rose from 6 degrees C to above 7 degrees C for <45 min at < or =12-h intervals. Such temperature fluctuations may be experienced by chilled foods during defrosting cycles of retail display cases. The finding that cells behave differently under fluctuating than at constant temperatures may significantly affect understanding of appropriate temperatures for the safe storage of chilled foods and for predictive modelling of bacterial growth in such foods.  相似文献

Exercise training has demonstrated cardioprotection effects. However, the exact mechanism behind this effect is not is clear. The present study evaluated the effects of 12 weeks of previous treadmill training on the levels of oxidative damage, antioxidant enzyme activity and injury in the myocardium of rats submitted to infarction induced by isoproterenol (ISO). Isoproterenol treatment (80 mg/kg given over 2 days in two equal doses) caused arrhythmias and 60% mortality within 24 h of the last injection in the control group (C + ISO) group when compared with the saline control group (saline). Creatine Kinase ? MB levels were markedly increased in hearts from ISO-treated animals in the C + ISO group. Twelve weeks of treadmill training reduced superoxide production, lipid peroxidation levels and protein carbonylation in these animals, as well as increasing the activities and expressions of SOD and CAT. Previous training also reduced CK-MB levels and numbers of deaths by 40%, preventing the deleterious effects of ISO. Based on the data obtained in this study, it is suggested that 12-week treadmill training increases antioxidant enzymes, decreases oxidative damage and reduces the degree of infarction induced by ISO in the hearts of male rats.  相似文献

The influence of temperature and humidity on the survival and development of Toxocara canis eggs in an in vitro model system was investigated. Two soil samples were inoculated with T. canis eggs and maintained at 3% and 50% humidity and temperatures of 19-24 degrees C. Nine soil samples were inoculated with T. canis eggs of which three samples were kept at 4 degrees C with humidities at 3%, 15%, and 30%; three were maintained at 21 degrees C and three more were incubated at 34 degrees C, and at the same three humidity levels. Samples were monitored every 7 days for a total of 2 months, for the presence and development of eggs. With increasing temperature, the number of eggs undergoing development increased (P<0.01); the number of deformed eggs decreased, the number of infective eggs increased (P<0.01), and egg maturation was accelerated. A decrease in the survival of infective eggs occurred at 34 degrees C. An increase in humidity produced a rise in the number of developed eggs at all three temperatures (P<0.01). This study suggests that elevated temperatures accelerated the development as well as the degradation of eggs of T. canis, whereas the range in humidity was directly correlated with egg development.  相似文献

Deep body temperatures were monitored with an implanted radiotelemetry device from 2 to 4 days prepartum to approximately 12 days postpartum in sows. The mean prepartum temperature of five normal sows was 38.6 degrees C, with a range of 38.3--38.9 degrees C. An increase in body temperature (1.4 degrees C) was associated with parturition. The increase in body temperature began about 12 hours before the first pig was born, peaked 1-2 hours after delivery of the last pig, and decreased during the first day postpartum but did not reach the prepartum values. Two days postpartum, the mean body temperature was about 1 degree C higher than it was during the prepartum period. The mean body temperature increased an average of 0.06 degrees C per day during the 12-day postpartum period. A diurnal pattern was evident in the body temperature variations.  相似文献

The electrical and mechanical activities of myocardial strips from Rana pipiens treated with isoproterenol (ISO) were studied during cyanide hypoxia at different bath temperatures (12, 25 and 35 degrees C). In normal myocardium at 12 degrees C, the action potential duration (APD) was almost unchanged but the isometric force (P) was reduced to about 60% after 30 min in 3 mmol/l NaCN. At 25 degrees C, APD and P decreased to about 80 and 60%, respectively, after exposure to cyanide for 30 min. At 35 degrees C, a fast decrease of APD (to about 30%) and P (to about 10%) was seen within 30 min. In all cases, washout of cyanide interactions was possible. Large effects occurred when ISO-damaged myocardium was exposed to cyanide. During the initial 30 min of CN-treatment, APD and P were significantly reduced in the whole temperature range between 12 and 35 degrees C, when compared with controls. When the cyanide exposure times were long enough, all preparations developed contracture. Increase of the temperature and/or ISO-pretreatment shortened the time-course for resting tension increase. The effects of cyanide on APD and resting tension (RT) were strongly correlated and presumably a result of a cyanide-induced rise of the intracellular free calcium concentration (Ca2+i).  相似文献
