1. The functional properties of the sweat glands and their innervation in the volar skin of three Japanese monkeys and two crab-eating monkeys were investigated.2. The sweat glands responded to both cholinomimetic and adrenomimetic agents, the former being highly predominant in the sudorific effect.3. Spontaneous emotional sweating was strongly or completely inhibited by atropine at 10−8–10−7 g/ml, but not by dihydroergotamine at 10−5–10−4 g/ml.4. Axon reflex sweating could not be produced by nicotine at 10−5–10−4 g/ml in all of primates tested.5. Since hexamethonium and surgical section have been used to prevent reflex splanchnic capacitance responses, we examined the effectiveness of these procedures in blocking responses to direct stimulation of preganglionic fibres in the splanchnic nerves. Liver blood volume was measured by plethysmography and splenic blood volume by weighing in cats anesthetized by pentobarbital. The cats were adrenalectomized to prevent adrenal catecholamine secretion in response to splanchnic nerve stimulation. Hexamethonium (10 and 20 mg/kg) alone or atropine (1 mg/kg) alone caused only a small variable block of the responses to preganglionic nerve stimulation. A combination of the two drugs essentially produced a complete block of the liver capacitance response, but a significant response still persisted in the spleen. Surgical section of the postganglionic nerve bundles around the hepatic and splenic arteries completely abolished the responses to preganglionic stimulation. It is concluded that a relatively complete block of reflex splanchnic capacitance responses requires either a combination of hexamethonium and atropine or surgical section of the postganglionic nerves.  相似文献

In sheep with chronic fistulae of the small intestine and rumen the participation of the beta-adrenergic receptor was investigated in the enteroruminal reflex and enteroenteric reflex using the method of pharmacological analysis. The movements of the segments of the digestive tract with fistulae were recorded by the balloon method. A solution of hydrochloric acid administered into the ileum caused a reflex stimulation of its motor activity and inhibited the movements of the rumen. Intravenous administration of propranolol before instillation of the acid into the intestine abolished or reduced greatly the reflex inhibition of the movements of the rumen and in the small intestine it enhanced significantly the studied reflex reaction. Thus stimulation of the beta-adrenergic receptor plays an important role in the reflex stimulation of the motor activity of the rumen, and stimulation of the motor activity of the small intestine in the enteroenteric reflex is limited by the effects derived from this receptor.  相似文献

The effects of protease inhibitors on axon growth through astrocytes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We have shown in a previous paper (Devl Biol. 135, 449, 1989) that axons regenerating from postnatal neurons are unable to penetrate three-dimensional cultures of mature astrocytes, while axons from embryonic dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) and retina will grow through such cultures for considerable distances. We have now investigated the role of proteases in the penetration of three-dimensional astrocyte cultures by axons from embryonic DRGs. Embryonic DRGs were grown in association with three-dimensional astrocyte cultures, with astrocyte monolayers, and with-air dried collagen. The effects of inhibitors of the three families of proteases that have been shown to be involved in tumour cell invasion were investigated. The serine protease inhibitors EACA and Trasylol both reduced growth in three-dimensional astrocyte cultures to around 50% of control, but had little effect on growth on astrocyte monolayers or on collagen. TIMP, which inhibits collagenases, had no effect on growth on two- or three-dimensional cultures. Cbz-gly-phen-amide, an inhibitor of enteroproteases, reduced growth in all three types of culture.  相似文献

Coevolution of a ligand and its receptor is critical for maintaining their function in different species, but how ligand and its receptor coevolve is poorly understood. The axon guidance molecule Netrin and its receptor Frazzled (Fra) are useful to study the mechanisms of ligand–receptor coevolution. Here, we have applied codon substitution models to identify positive selection of the netrin and fra genes. The sites under positive selection in netrin and fra were detected in same lineage, such as nematode, dipteran, hymenopteran, hemichordate, and teleost. Several amino acid residues that are under positive selection were identified in the interaction domains. Here we provide evidence that positive selection is essential for the coevolution of Netrin and Fra during central nervous system evolution.  相似文献

The effects of various ions on the resting membrane potential of the giant axons of Myxicola were determined. The mean resting potential in artificial sea water is 69 mv, inside negative. The membrane potential decreases with incresing external potassium concentrations, while changes in the sodium and chloride concentrations have little or no effect. For potassium concentrations greater than 50 mM/L the relation between membrane potential and concentration approximates that of a perfectly selective potassium electrode. The data for the whole range of concentrations examined can be well fitted by the equation: It was pointed out that the Myxicola giant axons can be studied under space voltage clamp and can be made available in the laboratory for 12 months out of the year. Myxicola then should become a very useful preparation for the study of membrane phenomena.  相似文献

The combined effects of vibration and noise on palmar sweating were studied experimentally in healthy subjects. Ten subjects were exposed to vibration at an acceleration of 100 m.sec-2 root mean square at a frequency of 125 Hz, a noise level of 105 dB(A) at a frequency of 1000 Hz and both stimuli together. Vibration was applied to the right hand and noise to both ears from headphones. Palmar sweating was measured by the ventilated capsule method. Vibration caused a marked increase in palmar sweating of the right hand directly exposed to vibration and also of the left hand not exposed to vibration. Simultaneous vibration and noise caused a greater increase in palmar sweating than by each of the factors separately. The combined effects tended to be greater in subjects who were more susceptible to vibration or noise.  相似文献

Summary A model of mammalian neuro-muscular systems described previously (Ouztöreli and Stein, 1975) has been extended to include multiple reflex pathways, as have been shown to exist in primates, including man (Milner-Brown et al., 1975). A number of general mathematical properties of the extended system are described. In the final section, using computer solutions, it is shown that the presence of multiple reflex pathways can effectively reduce the tendency for oscillation which will exist if high reflex gain were concentrated in a single pathway. High loop gain is desirable for good control in any negative feedback system, so the presence of multiple reflex pathways could improve reflex control, while limiting the magnitude of tremor or other unwanted oscillations in neuromuscular systems.This work was partly supported by the National Research Council of Canada (Grant NRC-A4345) and by the Medical Research Council of Canada (Grant MRC-MA 3307) through the University of Alberta.  相似文献

Wiring of the nervous system requires that axons navigate to their targets and maintain their correct positions in axon fascicles after termination of axon outgrowth. We show here that the C. elegans fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR), EGL-15, affects both processes in fundamentally distinct manners. FGF-dependent activation of the EGL-15 tyrosine kinase and subsequently the GTPase LET-60/ras is required within epidermal cells, the substratum for most outgrowing axon, for appropriate outgrowth of specific axon classes to their target area. In contrast, genetic elimination of the FGFR isoform EGL-15(5A), defined by the inclusion of an alternative extracellular interimmunoglobulin domain, has no consequence for axon outgrowth but leads to a failure to postembryonically maintain axon position within defined axon fascicles. An engineered, secreted form of EGL-15(5A) containing only its ectodomain is sufficient for maintenance of axon position, thus providing novel insights into receptor tyrosine kinase function and the process of maintaining axon position.  相似文献
