Mice lacking the substance P (SP) neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor (NK1R?/?mice) were used to investigate whether SP affects serotonin (5-HT) function in the brain and to assess the effects of acute immobilisation stress on the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenocortical (HPA) axis and 5-HT turnover in individual brain nuclei. Basal HPA activity and the expression of hypothalamic corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) in wild-type (WT)- and NK1R?/? mice were identical. Stress-induced increases in plasma ACTH concentration were considerably higher in NK1R?/? mice than in WT mice while corticosterone concentrations were equally elevated in both mouse lines. Acute stress did not alter the expression of CRH. In the dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN), basal 5-HT turnover was increased in NK1R?/? mice and a 15 min stress further magnified 5-HT utilisation in this region. In the frontoparietal cortex, medial prefrontal cortex, central nucleus of amygdala, and the hippocampal CA1 region, stress increased 5-HT and/or 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) concentrations to a similar extent in WT and NK1R?/? mice. 5-HT turnover in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus was not affected by stress, but stress induced similar increases in 5-HT and 5-HIAA in the ventromedial and dorsomedial hypothalamic nuclei in WT and NK1R?/? mice. Our findings indicate that NK1 receptor activation suppresses ACTH release during acute stress but does not exert sustained inhibition of the HPA axis. Genetic deletion of the NK1 receptor accelerates 5-HT turnover in DRN under basal and stress conditions. No differences between the responses of serotonergic system to acute stress in WT and NK1R?/? mice occur in forebrain nuclei linked to the regulation of anxiety and neuroendocrine stress responses.  相似文献

To examine the process of spontaneous autoresuscitation and the recovery of the hypoxic ventilatory response (HVR) after prolonged anoxia, we monitored respiratory frequency (f, by body plethysmography) and heart rate (HR, by ECG) in intact newborn rats (n = 12, day 2-4) before, during, and after 100% N2 exposure. The rat before anoxia showed signs of HVR: f changes at acute hypoxia (10% O2) and hyperoxia (100% O2). During anoxia, the spontaneous respiratory movement "gasping" appeared for 21 min (mean). At O2 restoration (with 100% O2), gasping stopped and no respiratory flow was detected for 1 min. One rat failed to autoresuscitate and had heart arrhythmia during the transient apnea, but 11 rats recovered respiration after the HR acceleration. Despite the successful autoresuscitation, the rats did not show HVR at 10 min into the recovery period and the recovery of HVR required more than 30 min. The results indicate that O2 inhalation is useful to trigger autoresuscitation even when the rat has already been in a state of profound hypoxic depression, but the rat becomes transiently insensitive to HVR after autoresuscitation. We estimate that reform of the respiratory control system in newborn rats is not yet firmly established to track HVR early in the recovery phase after prolonged anoxia.  相似文献

Under nitrogen anoxia heart rate (HR) persists at a high level for 1 min longer in rats exposed chronically to carbon monoxide and hypoxia than in unexposed control rats. Although declining sharply, HR of exposed animals continues higher than HR of controls during min 1-4 of anoxia. However, during min 5 and 6 of anoxia HR of CO-poisoned rats becomes similar to that of controls, while HR of hypoxia-exposed rats remains above control HR for 3 min longer. The data are discussed in light of cardiovascular changes induced by CO and hypobaric hypoxia.  相似文献

In vitro neuronal recordings in the SCN have clearly documented shifts in the peak of unit activity following the application of serotonergic agents, and yet selectivity issues with these very tools have limited progress in establishing the precise receptor mechanisms. As an alternative strategy, mice were bred (C57BL/6J) lacking 1 serotonin receptor, the 5-HT(7), to serve as a null background for this subtype; earlier work had documented the involvement of 5-HT(7) receptors in the phase advances elicited by 8-OH-DPAT, a mixed 5-HT(1A/7) agonist, in SCN slices prepared from rat donors. Single-unit recordings in sequential electrode passes revealed peaks of activity that occurred at nearly the same time in the knockout (KO; ZT4.2 +/- 0.6) and wild-type animals (WT; ZT4.3 +/- 0.1), where ZT0 marks the beginning of the light phase in a 12:12 LD cycle. Bath application of 8-OH-DPAT produced a phase advance in neuronal firing (2.1 +/- 0.5 h) when applied 1 circadian cycle earlier at ZT6 (10 microM, 10 min), but surprisingly, the mean phase advance in slices prepared from KO mice (2.3 +/- 0.1 h) was no different. Coapplication of 8-OH-DPAT with WAY-100,635 (10 microM), a highly selective 5-HT(1A) antagonist, significantly reduced the phase advance, both in experiments with WT and KO mice, suggesting the greater importance of this serotonin sub-type independent of genetic modification. 5-HT itself (0.5 +/-M, 10 min) at ZT6 also yielded phase advances that were indistinguishable in slices prepared from WT and KO mice (1.8 +/- 0.4 h and 2.1 +/- 0.2 h, respectively) and that were also sensitive to WAY-100,635. Unlike the pattern with 8-OH-DPAT, however, 5-HT-induced phase advances, in both WT and KO mice, were blocked by ritanserin, in this paradigm useful as a 5-HT(5A/7) antagonist (in addition to its more typical role as a 5-HT2A/2C antagonist). Serotonin antagonists when administered alone were without effect in slices from WT mice but produced significant phase shifts when administered to those from KO animals. Taken together, these results highlight the importance of the species used in establishing receptor mechanism. More provocatively, they support the involvement of multiple serotonin receptors in shifting the phase of circadian rhythms at ZT6.  相似文献

Gasping is a critically important mechanism for autoresuscitation and survival during extreme tissue hypoxia. Evidence of antecedent hypoxia in sudden infant death syndrome suggests that intermittently occurring hypoxic episodes may modify gasping and autoresuscitation. To examine this issue, an intermittent hypoxia (IH) profile consisting of alternating room air and 10% O(2)-balance N(2) every 90 s was applied to pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats (IHRA; n = 50) and to pups after a normal pregnancy (RAIH; n = 50) as well as to control pups (RARA; n = 50). At postnatal day 5, pups were exposed to 95% N(2)-5% CO(2), and gasping and the ability to autoresuscitate were assessed. Compared with RARA, IHRA- and RAIH-exposed pups had a reduced number of gasps, decreased overall gasp duration, and were less likely to autoresuscitate on introduction of room air to the breathing mixture during the last phase of gasping (P < 0.001 vs. RARA). We conclude that both prenatal and early postnatal IH adversely affect gasping and related survival mechanisms.  相似文献

To investigate the effects of the transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1 (TRPV1) channel on renal extracellular matrix (ECM) protein expression including collagen deposition and the transforming growth factor β (TGF-β)/Smad signaling pathway during salt-dependent hypertension, wild-type (WT) and TRPV1-null (TRPV1?/?) mutant mice were uninephrectomized and given deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt for 4 wks. TRPV1 gene ablation exaggerated DOCA-salt-induced impairment of renal function as evidenced by increased albumin excretion (μg/24 h) compared with WT mice (83.7 ± 7.1 versus 28.3 ± 4.8, P < 0.05), but had no apparent effect on mean arterial pressure (mmHg) as determined by radiotelemetry (141 ± 4 versus 138 ± 3, P > 0.05). Morphological analysis showed that DOCA-salt-induced glomerulosclerosis, tubular injury and macrophage infiltration (cells/mm2) were increased in TRPV1?/? compared with WT mice (0.74 ± 0.08 versus 0.34 ± 0.04; 3.14 ± 0.26 versus 2.00 ± 0.31; 68 ± 5 versus 40 ± 4, P < 0.05). Immunostaining studies showed that DOCA-salt treatment decreased nephrin but increased collagen type I and IV as well as phosphorylated Smad2/3 staining in kidneys of TRPV1?/? compared with WT mice. Hydroxyproline assay and Western blot showed that DOCA-salt treatment increased collagen content (μg/mg dry tissue) and fibronectin protein expression (%β-actin arbitrary units) in the kidney of TRPV1?/? compared with WT mice (26.7 ± 2.7 versus 17.4 ± 1.8; 0.93 ± 0.07 versus 0.65 ± 0.08, P < 0.05). Acceleration of renal ECM protein deposition in DOCA-salt-treated TRPV1?/? mice was accompanied by increased TGF-β1, as well as phosphorylation of Smad2/3 protein expression (%β-actin arbitrary units) compared with DOCA-salt-treated WT mice (0.61 ± 0.07 versus 0.32 ± 0.05; 0.57 ± 0.07 versus 0.25 ± 0.05; 0.71 ± 0.08 versus 0.40 ± 0.06, P < 0.05). These results show that exaggerated renal functional and structural injuries are accompanied by increased production of ECM protein and activation of the TGF-β/Smad2/3 signaling pathway. These data suggest that activation of TRPV1 attenuates the progression of renal fibrosis possibly via suppression of the TGF-β and its downstream regulatory signaling pathway.  相似文献

The mechanism of failure of autoresuscitation from hypoxic apnea in 17- to 23-day-old (weanling) Swiss Webster related/J mice was investigated by recording electrocardiogram (ECG) and ventilation in adult, weanling, and 11-day-old mice. Hypoxic apnea was induced with 97% N2-3% CO2. O2 (21% or 50% O2) or 97% N2-3% CO2 was given at the onset of apnea. The ECG showed no arrhythmias predictive of failure of autoresuscitation. The first indication of failure was a progressive fall in gasp volume ("run down"). This pattern also occurred in animals given continuous 97% N2-3% CO2 and was significantly different from that in mice that survived. Gasping duration in 97% N2 was longer in weanlings than adults but shorter than in 11 day olds. Respiratory and heart rate recovery were more rapid in adults than in weanlings. Although recovery in high O2 was more rapid, the survival rate was not increased. The lack of effect of high O2 on survival and the virtually identical pattern of gasping in mice dying in 97% N2 and air leads us to conclude that in mice that fail to autoresuscitate little or no O2 reaches the medullary respiratory centers. We speculate that this may be due to increased vulnerability of cardiac muscle to anoxia in 17- to 23-day-old mice, resulting in early and severe heart failure.  相似文献

The hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) is a circadian oscillator that receives glutamatergic afferents from the retina and serotonergic afferents from the midbrain. Activation of presynaptic serotonin 1B (5-HT1B) receptors on retinal terminals in the SCN inhibits retinohypothalamic neurotransmission and light-induced behavioral phase shifts. To assess the role of 5-HT1B receptors in photic entrainment, 5-HT1B receptor knockout (5-HT1B KO) and wild-type (WT) mice were maintained in non-24 h L:D cycles (T cycles). WT mice entrained to T = 21 h and T = 22 h cycles, whereas 5-HT1B KO animals did not. 5-HT1B KO animals did entrain to T = 23 h and T = 26 h cycles, although their phase angle of entrainment was altered compared to WT animals. 5-HT1B KO mice were significantly more phase delayed under T = 23 h conditions and significantly more phase advanced under T = 26 h conditions compared to WT mice. When 5-HT1B KO mice were housed in a T = 23 h short-day photoperiod (9.5L:13.5D), the delayed phase angle of entrainment was more pronounced. Light-induced phase shifts were reduced in 5-HT1B KO mice, consistent with their behavior in T cycles, suggesting an attenuated response to light. Based on previous work, this attenuated response to light might not have been predicted but can be explained by consideration of GABAergic mechanisms within the SCN. Phase-delayed circadian rhythms during the short days of winter are characteristic of patients suffering from seasonal affective disorder, and 5-HT has been implicated in its pathophysiology. The 5-HT1B KO mouse may be useful for investigating the altered entrainment evident during this serious mood disorder.  相似文献

Mechanisms underlying failure of autoresuscitation from hypoxic apnea were investigated. Failure was induced by repeated exposure to hypoxia. The influence of maturation was studied in adults, weanlings, and 10- and 5-day-old mice. Mice successful at autoresuscitation (BALB/c) as well as those prone to autoresuscitation failure (SWR weanlings) were studied. Hypoxic apnea was induced with 97% N2-3% CO2, and 21% O2 was given at its onset; electrocardiogram and ventilation were recorded. Hypoxic exposure was repeated if autoresuscitation (recovery of eupnea) occurred. Autoresuscitation failure (death) was induced in all mice. Young BALB/c mice tolerated more trials than older mice. SWR weanlings frequently failed to autoresuscitate on the initial exposure and tolerated fewer repeat trials overall than age-matched BALB/c mice. Induced autoresuscitation failure in all mice appeared to be unrelated to gasping regulation, because both gasp number and amplitude were similar during the failed trial and the previous successful trial. In most mice, failure was associated with absent recovery of heart rate during gasping. In BALB/c mice in particular, this persistent bradycardia was usually due to heart block, which occurred in 95% of failed trials. In addition, heart block occurred with increasing frequency on later successful trials, but conversion to sinus rhythm always preceded successful autoresuscitation. Heart block was also frequent in SWR mice and had similar consequences. BALB/c mice exposed to continuous anoxia survived longer than SWR mice, indicating increased endurance of components of the autoresuscitation mechanism not directly related to the ventilatory function of gasping (e.g., cardiovascular components).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

In severe hypoxia or ischemia, normal eupneic breathing fails and is replaced by gasping. Gasping serves as part of a process of autoresuscitation by which eupnea is reestablished. Medullary neurons, having a burster, pacemaker discharge, underlie gasping. Conductance through persistent sodium channels is essential for the burster discharge. This conductance is modulated by norepinephrine, acting on alpha 1-adrenergic receptors, and serotonin, acting on 5-HT2 receptors. We hypothesized that blockers of 5-HT2 receptors and alpha 1-adrenergic receptors would alter autoresuscitation. The in situ perfused preparation of the juvenile rat was used. Integrated phrenic discharge was switched from an incrementing pattern, akin to eupnea, to the decrementing pattern comparable to gasping in hypoxic hypercapnia. With a restoration of hyperoxic normocapnia, rhythmic, incrementing phrenic discharge returned within 10 s in most preparations. Following addition of blockers of alpha 1-adrenergic receptors (WB-4101, 0.0625-0.500 microM) and/or blockers of 5-HT2 (ketanserin, 1.25-10 microM) or multiple 5-HT receptors (methysergide, 3.0-10 microM) to the perfusate, incrementing phrenic discharge continued. Fictive gasping was still induced, although it ceased after significantly fewer decrementing bursts than in preparations than received no blockers. Moreover, the time for recovery of rhythmic activity was significantly prolonged. This prolongation was in excess of 100 s in all preparations that received both WB-4101 (above 0.125 microM) and methysergide (above 2.5 microM). We conclude that activation of adrenergic and 5-HT2 receptors is important to sustain gasping and to restore rhythmic respiratory activity after hypoxia-induced depression.  相似文献

5-HT1A-receptor agonists rapidly restore blood pressure and sympathetic activity in conscious rats subjected to hypotensive hemorrhage. 5-HT1A-receptor activation has also been shown to produce a robust increase in baroreceptor-dependent, pulse-synchronous firing of cardiac sympathetic nerves in anesthetized cats. To determine whether 5-HT1A-receptor agonists reverse hemorrhage-induced suppression of sympathetic activity through facilitation of the arterial baroreflex, the effects of the 5-HT1A-receptor agonist, 8-OH-DPAT, were assessed in male Sprague-Dawley rats subjected to sinoaortic baroreceptor denervation and subsequent hypotensive hemorrhage. 8-OH-DPAT produced rapid pressor and sympathoexcitatory responses in hemorrhaged animals that were attenuated, but not blocked, by sinoaortic denervation (SAD) (+49 +/- 4 vs. +37 +/- 4 mmHg; +165 +/- 30 vs. +92 +/- 24% baseline, P < 0.01). Spectral analysis of sympathetic activity showed that SAD abolished the 8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino)-tetralin (8-OH-DPAT)-mediated increases in pulse-synchronous (13 +/- 1 vs. 5 +/- 1% total power for intact vs. SAD rats, P < 0.01) and Mayer wave-related bursting (18 +/- 3 vs. 8 +/- 1% total power, P < 0.05). However, 8-OH-DPAT continued to increase total power (+72 +/- 22 vs. -63 +/- 7% prehemorrhage total power, P < 0.05) and power at the respiratory frequency (35 +/- 2 vs. 25 +/- 4% total power) in SAD animals. These data indicate that full expression of the sympathoexcitatory effect of 8-OH-DPAT requires a functional arterial baroreflex. However, a portion of the effect is due to activation of arterial baroreflex-independent sympathetic pathways.  相似文献

The serotonin (5-HT) syndrome is the most serious toxic interaction of antidepressants, but no pharmacotherapy has yet been established. In the present study, we created an animal model of the 5-HT syndrome by intraperitoneally injecting rats with clorgyline (2 mg/kg) and 5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan (5-HTP) (100 mg/kg) and evaluated the effectiveness of potent 5-HT(2A) receptor antagonists and GABA-enhancing drugs, including diazepam and chlormethiazole. The rectal temperature of the rats was measured, and the noradrenaline (NA) and 5-HT levels in the anterior hypothalamus were measured by microdialysis. In the group pre-treated with saline, the rectal temperature increased to more than 40 degrees C, and all of the animals died within 90 min after administration. Pre-treatment with potent 5-HT(2A) receptor antagonists prevented the development of hyperthermia and death in the rats. Pre-treatment with diazepam, 10 and 20mg/kg, and chlormethiazole, 50 and 100mg/kg, attenuated the development of hyperthermia. Although neither of these drugs completely prevented the rats from dying, they prolonged their survival time. Regardless of the type of therapeutic agents, the concentration of 5-HT increased to about 1100-fold the pre-administration level. The NA levels in the saline group increased to about 16-fold the pre-administration levels, but the increase was significantly lower in the rats that survived as a result of drug therapy. These results suggest that GABA-mimetic drugs may be effective against the 5-HT syndrome, although they have a somewhat weaker effect than the potent 5-HT(2A) receptor blockers, and that not only is 5-HT activity increased in the brain in the 5-HT syndrome, but the NA system is also enhanced.  相似文献

Malnutrition during pregnancy adversely affects postnatal forebrain development; its effect upon brain stem development is less certain. To evaluate the role of tryptophan [critical for serotonin (5-HT) synthesis] on brain stem 5-HT and the development of cardiorespiratory function, we fed dams a diet ~45% deficient in tryptophan during gestation and early postnatal life and studied cardiorespiratory variables in the developing pups. Deficient pups were of normal weight at postnatal day (P)5 but weighed less than control pups at P15 and P25 (P < 0.001) and had lower body temperatures at P15 (P < 0.001) and P25 (P < 0.05; females only). Oxygen consumption (Vo(2)) was unaffected. At P15, deficient pups had an altered breathing pattern and slower heart rates. At P25, they had significantly lower ventilation (Ve) and Ve-to-Vo(2) ratios in both air and 7% CO(2). The ventilatory response to CO(2) (% increase in Ve/Vo(2)) was significantly increased at P5 (males) and reduced at P15 and P25 (males and females). Deficient pups had 41-56% less medullary 5-HT (P < 0.01) compared with control pups, without a difference in 5-HT neuronal number. These data indicate important interactions between nutrition, brain stem physiology, and age that are potentially relevant to understanding 5-HT deficiency in the sudden infant death syndrome.  相似文献

The hypoxic tolerance and the cerebral metabolic rates (CMR) of young adult mice (20 to 25 g, 4 to 5 weeks old) and adult mice (30 g and above, 6 to 7 weeks old), respectively, were determined and their interrelationship was evaluated. CMRs increased from 25 mmol - P/kg.min to 38 mmol/kg.min as the animals grew older from young to full adulthood. Concurrently the tolerance to aerogcnic hypoxia (5% O2-95%j N2) declined. The effects of hypoxia on the cerebral energy metabolism were greater in adult than in young adult animals. It is concluded that the full metabolic maturation of the brain is reached in adult animals only. They become more dependent on an adequate oxygen supply as the aerobic activity of the energy metabolism of the brain is further increasing. Hypoxic gasping occurred while the pool of cerebral energy reserves was still far from being depleted. A failure to utilize energy reserves rather than their exhaustion is suggested as the ultimate cause of death from hypoxia. An acid-soluble form of glycogen or related polyglucan was found in addition to the usual amounts of insoluble glycogen. It was utilizcd rapidly during hypoxia and ischaemic anoxia and it may, therefore, constitute an additional source of carbohydrate substrates in thc brain.  相似文献

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress are thought to play a central role in the etiology of cell dysfunction and tissue damage in sepsis. However, there is limited and controversial evidence from in vivo studies that ROS mediate cell signaling processes that elicit acute inflammatory responses during sepsis. Because NADPH oxidase is one of the main cellular sources of ROS, we investigated the role of this enzyme in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute inflammation in vivo, utilizing mice deficient in the gp91phox or p47phox subunits of NADPH oxidase. Age-and body weight-matched C57BL/6J wild-type (WT) and gp91phox?/? and p47phox?/? mice were injected ip with 50 μg LPS or saline vehicle and sacrificed at various time points up to 24 h. We found that LPS-induced acute inflammatory responses in serum and tissues were not significantly diminished in gp91phox?/? and p47phox?/? mice compared to WT mice. Rather, genetic deficiency of NADPH oxidase was associated with enhanced gene expression of inflammatory mediators and increased neutrophil recruitment to lung and heart. Furthermore, no protection from LPS-induced septic death was observed in either knockout strain. Our findings suggest that NADPH oxidase-mediated ROS production and cellular redox signaling do not promote, but instead limit, LPS-induced acute inflammatory responses in vivo.  相似文献

Arousal is an important survival mechanism when infants are confronted with hypoxia during sleep. Many sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) infants are exposed to repeated episodes of hypoxia before death and have impaired arousal mechanisms. We hypothesized that repeated exposures to hypoxia would cause a progressive blunting of arousal, and that a reversal of this process would occur if the hypoxia was terminated at the time of arousal. P5 (postnatal age of 5 days), P15, and P25 rat pups were exposed to either eight trials of hypoxia (3 min 5% O(2) alternating with room air) (group A), or three hypoxia trials as in group A, followed by five trials in which hypoxia was terminated at arousal (group B). In both groups A and B, latency increased over the first four trials of hypoxia, but reversed in group B animals during trials 5-8. Progressive arousal blunting was more pronounced in the older pups. The effects of intermittent hypoxia on heart rate also depended on age. In the older pups, heart rate increased with each hypoxia exposure. In the P5 pups, however, heart rate decreased during hypoxia and did not return to baseline between exposures, resulting in a progressive fall of baseline values over successive hypoxia exposures. In the group B animals, heart rate changes during trials 1-4 also reversed during trials 5-8. We conclude that exposure to repeated episodes of hypoxia can cause progressive blunting of arousal, which is reversible by altering the exposure times to hypoxia and the period of recovery between hypoxia exposures.  相似文献

Activation of 5-HT1A receptors in the medullary raphé decreases sympathetically mediated brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis and peripheral vasoconstriction when previously activated with leptin, LPS, prostaglandins, or cooling. It is not known whether shivering is also modulated by medullary raphé 5-HT1A receptors. We previously showed in conscious piglets that activation of 5-HT1A receptors with (+/-)-8-hydroxy-2-(dipropylamino)-tetralin (8-OH-DPAT) in the paragigantocellularis lateralis (PGCL), a medullary region lateral to the raphé that contains substantial numbers of 5-HT neurons, eliminates rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and decreases shivering in a cold environment, but does not attenuate peripheral vasoconstriction. Hoffman JM, Brown JW, Sirlin EA, Benoit AM, Gill WH, Harris MB, Darnall RA. Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol 293: R518-R527, 2007. We hypothesized that, during cooling, activation of 5-HT1A receptors in the medullary raphé would also eliminate REM sleep and, in contrast to activation of 5-HT1A receptors in the PGCL, would attenuate both shivering and peripheral vasoconstriction. In a continuously cool environment, dialysis of 8-OH-DPAT into the medullary raphé resulted in alternating brief periods of non-REM sleep and wakefulness and eliminated REM sleep, as observed when 8-OH-DPAT is dialyzed into the PGCL. Moreover, both shivering and peripheral vasoconstriction were significantly attenuated after 8-OH-DPAT dialysis into the medullary raphé. The effects of 8-OH-DPAT were prevented after dialysis of the selective 5-HT1A receptor antagonist WAY-100635. We conclude that, during cooling, exogenous activation of 5-HT1A receptors in the medullary raphé decreases both shivering and peripheral vasoconstriction. Our data are consistent with the hypothesis that neurons expressing 5-HT1A receptors in the medullary raphé facilitate spinal motor circuits involved in shivering, as well as sympathetic stimulation of other thermoregulatory effector mechanisms.  相似文献
