Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) variation was surveyed with 20 restriction endonucleases for the eastern Asian and eastern North American disjunct genus Symplocarpus (Araceae). The cpDNA phylogeny reveals a sister group relationship between S. foetidus from eastern North America and S. renifolius from eastern Asia. The cpDNA divergence between the two intercontinental sister species is 0.61%, which suggests an estimated divergence time of 6.1 million years ago during the late Miocene. The Bering land bridge hypothesis is compatible with the estimated time of divergence for the migration of Symplocarpus between eastern Asia and North America. Furthermore, a single origin of the exothermic spadices in Symplocarpus is suggested by the phylogeny. The cpDNA data also provide independent support for the recognition of three species within the genus. 相似文献

This review shows a close biogeographic connection between eastern Asia and western North America from the late Cretaceous to the late Neogene in major lineages of vascular plants (flowering plants, gymnosperms, ferns and lycophytes). Of the eastern Asian–North American disjuncts, conifers exhibit a high proportion of disjuncts between eastern Asia and western North America. Several lineages of ferns also show a recent disjunct pattern in the two areas. In flowering plants, the pattern is commonly shown in temperate elements between northeastern Asia and northwestern North America, as well as elements of the relict boreotropical and Neogene mesophytic and coniferous floras. The many cases of intercontinental biogeographic disjunctions between eastern Asia and western North America in plants supported by recent phylogenetic analyses highlight the importance of the Bering land bridge and/or the plant migrations across the Beringian region from the late Cretaceous to the late Neogene, especially during the Miocene. The Beringian region has permitted the filtering and migration of certain plant taxa since the Pliocene after the opening of the Bering Strait, as many conspecific taxa or closely related species occur on both sides of Beringia. 相似文献

Toxicodendron is a genus in the Rhus complex of Anacardiaceae with a disjunct distribution between eastern Asia and North America, extending to southeastern Asia and the neotropics. Nuclear (internal transcribed spacer, external transcribed spacer, and NIA-i3) and chloroplast (ndhF and trnL-F) sequences were used to construct phylogenetic relationships of Toxicodendron. Phylogenetic analysis of these data strongly support Toxieodendron as a monophyletic group distinct from other genera of the Rhus complex, and the phylogeny does not fully corroborate classification at the sectional level. Two temperate disjunct lineages were detected, one from section Toxicodendron and the other between the eastern North American Toxicodendron vernix and the eastern Asian Toxicodendron vernieifluum. Their divergence times were estimated to be 13.46 (7.95-19.42) and 7.53 (2.76-12.86) mya, respectively. The disjunction between section Griffithii (taxa from warm temperate to tropical Asia) and Toxieodendron striatum (from the neotropics) was supported and their divergence time was estimated to be 20.84 (11.1 6-30.52) mya in the early Miocene. Our biogeographic results and the paleontological data support the Bering land bridge as the most likely route to explain the temperate disjunctions, yet the tropical disjunction in Toxicodendron seems to be best explained by the North Atlantic land bridge hypothesis. 相似文献

Bocconia (10 species) and Macleaya (2 species) are two disjunct genera between South America and eastern Asia (EAS) in the Papaveraceae offering an opportunity to compare its biogeographic history with that of the well‐known disjunction between EAS and eastern North American (ENA). Our phylogenetic analyses of the chloroplast matK and rbcL gene sequences of Ranunculales including two species of Macleaya and six species of Bocconia supported the monophyly of Bocconia, Macleaya, and Chelidonioideae to which Bocconia and Macleaya belong. Nucleotide sequences of matK, rbcL, and nrDNA ITS supported the sister relationship of Bocconia and Macleaya. Biogeographic analyses of Chelidonioideae using S‐DIVA (statistical dispersal vicariance analysis) and DEC (dispersal extinction cladogenesis) methods inferred Eurasia as the most likely ancestral area of Bocconia and Macleaya and suggested no extinction events in either Bocconia or Macleaya. This agrees with the “Out‐of‐Asia” pattern of the EAS‐ENA disjunction. Molecular dating of Ranunculales with fossil‐based calibrations showed that Bocconia and Macleaya diverged in the late Eocene and early Oligocene, which is much earlier than most EAS‐ENA disjunct taxa. The disjunction may have formed via long distance dispersal or boreotropical connections via the North Atlantic and Bering land bridges. Both Bocconia and Macleaya diversified in the late mid‐Miocene, but Bocconia has apparently experienced a greater diversification probably aided by the evolution of the bird dispersal syndrome in fruit and seed after migration to South America. The greater diversification of Bocconia is also evidenced by the diverse leaf morphology and growth habit in response to colonization in various local habitats in South America. 相似文献

The distribution of tardigrades in the states of the southern United States is poorly known. There are no published records from the state of Louisiana, while in Arkansas only one species has been reported. Samples of mosses and lichens from trees and rocks were collected from three sites in central and southern Louisiana and six sites in western Arkansas. Leaf litter samples were collected from one site in Louisiana. Nine species of tardigrade were found in Louisiana and 22 in Arkansas. The number of species per sample ranged from one to six. 相似文献

The close floristic affinities between eastern Asia and North America have long been recognized and intensively studied, however, the ecological and biogeographical consequences of such a floristic relationship between these two remotely separated regions has been largely neglected until recently. Quantitative investigations of such relationships could greatly improve our understanding of many global and historical aspects of species diversity, vegetation dynamics, and biogeography, especially with the rapid developments of cladistic methods of phylogenetic reconstruction. All comparisons and predictions will depend on understanding past and present physical and biological processes (i.e. geological history of the continents and the evolutionary history of organisms), as well as human impacts in both regions. Both species level (life history characteristics, distribution, ecological functions) and community level (species composition, structure, endemism) variables should be investigated. Comparisons should be conducted spatially across vegetation zones and temporally through geological episodes. Emphases on the phylogeny and geological history of component taxa by analysing and synthesizing multidisciplinary data would be helpful, especially with regard to the current trends in global climate change. Diversity measured on different scales (i.e. α-, β, and g-diversity) could provide invaluable information about local-regional relationships and their ecological implications in continental or even global biodiversity patterns. 相似文献

Of the two small, compact, dusky, reticulated species of Chydorus from Sri Lanka, one arbitrarily has been selected as the taxon to which Daday's name reticulatus henceforward will be attached, the other herein being described as new. A third species from eastern North America, also described herein as new, resembles the two Asian species in certain gross features but otherwise is very distinct. Particularly noteworthy among these differences are the structure of the labrum and of the male postabdomen and copulatory hook. The question is raised whether the gross morphological features that seem to unite the taxa or the features of the labrum and of the male that separate them are the more conservative. No unequivocal answer is provided. Because of their obvious close similarity, the two Asian species are established as a species group, the one from North America being divergent and therefore not included. The possibility of convergence is considered.The North American taxon in north Florida occurs in waterbodies with a pH less than 5 (down to 4.2), conductivity less than 40 µS, and usually with no more than a trace of dissolved color. They are naturally acidic, non-bog lakes. The number of species of chydorids and of total littoral Cladocera in them are considerably greater than found by Fryer in waterbodies of comparable acidity in England. The occurrence also of a diversity of macrophytes and fishes in these lakes indicates that pH per se is not the factor forcing the decreasing diversity associated with changes resulting from acid precipitation. 相似文献

The Hawaiian Islands are home to one of the most distinctive fern and lycophyte floras in the world. Of the 144 native fern species, 76% are endemic and, including subspecies and varieties, 84% of the 167 native fern taxa are endemic. There are 15 native lycophyte species, 47% of which are endemic, and 16 taxa, 50% of which are endemic. I review here most of the available literature on Hawaiian ferns and lycophytes. Few species of ferns or lycophytes have been studied in any kind of detail and, for most, we only know basic classification and general ecological information. Although the total number of studies reviewed here is not large, research has been conducted on a wide range of topics including systematics, floristics, dispersal, phylogeny, biogeography, ecology, form and function, population genetics, microevolution, fern-animal and fern-fungi associations, reproductive biology, demography, ethnobotany, and conservation. 相似文献

Sassafras (Lauraceae) consists of three species disjunct between eastern Asia (S. tzumu and S. randaiense) and eastern North America (S. albidum). Phylogenetic analysis based on sequences of nuclear ribosomal ITS and three chloroplast non-coding regions (rpl16, trnL-F, and psbA-trnH) showed that Sassafras is monophyletic and that the eastern North American S. albidum is sister to the clade of its two eastern Asian counterparts. Their intercontinental divergence was estimated to be 13.80
± 2.29−16.69 ± 2.52 million years ago (mya) using the penalized likelihood method with the ITS and three chloroplast markers.
Biogeographic analyses combined with fossil evidence suggest that Sassafras has a relict distribution in the Northern Hemisphere without a Gondwanan link. The divergence time of the two eastern Asian
species (the continental Chinese Sassafras tzumu and S. randaiense endemic to Taiwan) is estimated to be 0.61 ± 0.75−2.23 ± 0.76 mya. Sassafras randaiense from Taiwan was most likely derived from an ancestor from continental China. 相似文献

Morphological and molecular comparisons were made forCampsis grandiflora (Thunb.)K. Schumann (Bignoniaceae) from eastern Asia andC. radicans (L.)Seemann from eastern North America. Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) variation was surveyed with 20 restriction endonucleases. The cpDNA divergence between the two vicariad species was 2.44%, which is the highest reported among North Temperate disjunct taxa and one of the highest reported for infrageneric taxa. Detailed morphological comparisons also suggest a high level of divergence. Cluster analyses based on 22 morphological characters and 39 OTUs revealed two distinct groups corresponding with the two species. The average taxonomic distance between the two species was 1.806. Analyses of variance (ANOVA) revealed that 12 of the 18 quantitative characters differed significantly ( 0.01) betweenC. grandiflora andC. radicans. Divergence time based on cpDNA data was estimated as 24.4 million years. The Bering land bridge hypothesis was favored over the North Atlantic land bridge hypothesis based on the estimated divergence time and the geological history of the North Temperate region. The high levels of morphological and cpDNA divergence are not consistent with morphological stasis, which has been proposed as a common mode of evolution for North Temperate disjunct taxa. 相似文献

Few studies of tripartite mycoheterotrophic systems have examined ecological specificity across broad geographic ranges or addressed autotrophic host specificity. Pterospora andromedea was selected as an ideal candidate to examine ecological specificity of a mycoheterotrophic system as it is widely distributed, has been shown to have high levels of symbiont specificity with Rhizopogon subgenus Amylopogon, and is found with several autotrophic hosts. Pairs of P. andromedea + Rhizopogon spp. samples were co-collected across North America and were sequenced using trnL and ITS, respectively. Bayesian phylogenetic reconstructions between the co-collected taxa were used to examine ecological specificity, and for subsequent tests for autotroph specificity. P. andromedea lineages exhibited both high specificity and relaxed specificity for fungal symbionts and autotrophic hosts across the geographic landscape under allopatric and sympatric conditions. This strong evidence for geographic mosaics of specificity in mycoheterotrophic systems is an important future consideration in determining the evolutionary ecology of mycoheterotrophs. 相似文献

在2004年出版的《湖南植物志》中收录有标本考证的湖南省石松类和蕨类植物683种41变种10变型[1],截至2014年底,又陆续发表了70余个新记录[2-9]。2013年出版的《Flora of China》结合现代分子系统学和最新的研究成果,对大量植物物种进行归并和科属的重新划分,作为湖南省优势科属资源的一些种类数量也相应减少,如水龙骨科( Polypodiaceae)的鳞果星蕨属( Lepidomicrosorium Ching et K. H. Shing )和盾蕨属( Neolepisorus Ching ),鳞毛蕨科( Dryopteridaceae)的复叶耳蕨属( Arachniodes Blume)以及以武陵山区为中心分布的黔蕨属( Phanerophlebiopsis Ching)(归并到复叶耳蕨属Arachniodes Blume)等,书中仅记录湖南省分布的石松类和蕨类植物约434种(含变种、亚种和杂种)[10],数量相对较少,而湖南省分布的一些较珍稀的蕨类植物未有罗列,如川黔肠蕨也Diplaziopsis cavaleriana ( Christ) C. Chr.页、中华双扇蕨( Dipteris chinensis Christ )、全缘燕尾蕨也Cheiropleuria integrifolia ( D. C. Eaton ex Hook.) M. Kato页、睫毛蕨也Pleurosoriopsis makinoi ( Maxim. ex Makino) Fomin页[1]和心叶薄唇蕨也Leptochilus cantoniensis ( Baker) Ching页等[11]。作者根据近十年的相关文献[1-9,12],对湖南省分布的石松类和蕨类植物进行了梳理,统计出631种27变种2亚种和2杂种。自2013年开始,作者对湖南省东南部的莽山、西部的小溪以及西北部的八大公山等多个国家级自然保护区进行了野外考察,发现了湖南省石松类和蕨类植物新记录6种,分属于5科6属,它们的生境及形态特征见图1。凭证标本保存于上海辰山植物标本馆( CSH )。其中一些种类分布的海拔较低,对于湖南省蕨类植物区系特点、科属结构以及物种多样性演化等研究具有潜在价值。 相似文献

本研究通过野外考查、标本采集和分类鉴定,以及文献资料整理,对贵州茂兰国家级自然保护区石松类和蕨类植物区系组成和分布区类型进行统计分析。结果显示:(1)茂兰国家级自然保护区共有石松类和蕨类植物32科76属237种,优势科为鳞毛蕨科(Dryopteridaceae)、蹄盖蕨科(Athyriaceae)、凤尾蕨科(Pteridaceae)、水龙骨科(Polypodiaceae);优势属为双盖蕨属(Diplazium)、卷柏属(Selaginella)、凤尾蕨属(Pteris)。(2)分布区类型以东亚广布和热带亚洲分布为主,生态类型以阴生植物和土生植物居多。(3)与其他地区的区系比较显示,茂兰与广西花坪物种相似性系数最高,依次是贵州梵净山、四川峨眉山和云南马关县。 相似文献

A universal method of molecular dating that can be applied to all families and genera regardless of their fossil records, or lack thereof, is highly desirable. A possible method for eudicots is to use a large phylogeny calibrated using deep fossils including tricolpate pollen as a fixed (124 mya) calibration point. This method was used to calculate node ages within three species‐poor disjunct basal eudicot genera, Caulophyllum, Podophyllum and Pachysandra, and sensitivity of these ages to effects such as taxon sampling were then quantified. By deleting from one to three accessions related to each genus in 112 different combinations, a confidence range describing variation due only to taxon sampling was generated. Ranges for Caulophyllum, Podophyllum and Pachysandra were 8.4–10.6, 7.6–20.0, and 17.6–25.0 mya, respectively. However, the confidence ranges calculated using bootstrapping were much wider, at 3–19, 0–32 and 11–32 mya, respectively. Furthermore, deleting 10 adjacent taxa had a large effect in Pachysandra only, indicating that undersampling effects are significant among Buxales. Changes to sampling density in neighboring clades, or to the position of the fixed fossil calibration point had small to negligible effects. Non‐parametric rate smoothing was more sensitive to taxon sampling effects than was penalized likelihood. The wide range for Podophyllum, compared to the other two genera, was probably due to a high degree of rate heterogeneity within this genus. Confidence ranges calculated by this method could be narrowed by sampling more individuals within the genus of interest, and by sequencing multiple DNA regions from all species in the phylogeny. 相似文献

Assiminea pecos is an endangered species of amphibious gastropod that occupies four widely separated portions of the Rio Grande region in
the southwestern United States (Pecos River basin) and northeastern Mexico (Cuatro Cienegas basin). Our statistical and discriminant
function analyses of shell variation among the disjunct populations of this species indicate that Mexican specimens differ
in their morphometry from those of the United States and can be diagnosed by several characters. We also analyzed variation
in the mitochondrial genome by sequencing 658 bp of mitochondrial COI from populations of A. pecos, representatives of the other three North American species of Assiminea, and several outgroups. Our results indicated substantial divergence of the Mexican population of A. pecos, which was consistently depicted as a monophyletic unit nested within or sister to the shallowly structured group comprised
of American members of this species. Consistent with our findings, we describe the Mexican population as a new species, which
is provisionally placed in the large, worldwide genus Assiminea pending further study of the phylogentic relationships of the North American assimineids. Our molecular data suggest that
the Rio Grande region assimineids, which are among the few inland members of the otherwise estuarine subfamily Assimineinae,
diverged from coastal progenitors in the late Miocene, with subsequent Pleistocene vicariance of Mexican and American species
perhaps associated with development of the modern, lower course of the Rio Grande.

Aim Vitis subg. Vitis provides an example of a plant disjunction occurring in the Northern Hemisphere. It shows broad morphological variation but is assumed to be a species complex with limited genetic differentiation. Based on a comprehensive sampling of taxa and polymorphism in both chloroplast and nuclear DNA, we assessed genetic variation within this subgenus. Our aims were to clarify the relationships among species and to examine their historical biogeography. Location Asia, Europe, North America. Methods We analysed a total of 30 species and putative hybrids from subgenus Vitis and examined the infra‐specific variation in some species. Polymorphism in chloroplast DNA was assessed in trnL and trnH–psbA–trnK sequences (c. 2170 bp) and in 15 microsatellite loci. We also obtained nuclear data for size variation at 24 microsatellite loci. Phylogenetic inference was performed with Bayesian analyses. A maximum parsimony network was constructed to depict the evolutionary relationships among haplotypes, and microsatellite data were also subjected to hierarchical clustering analysis using the Ward distance. In addition, we assessed size homoplasy by sequencing both chloroplast and nuclear microsatellite loci. Results Chloroplast polymorphisms resolved subgenus Vitis as a monophyletic group with limited genetic variation. The ancestral haplotypes were found in Eurasia. American taxa all harboured derived haplotypes. Most of them formed a monophyletic group that did not include Vitis californica. The four main haplotypes in Vitis vinifera corresponded to two different origins. Nuclear microsatellites indicated that genetic variation was especially large in North America. Asian species exhibited a lower level of nuclear divergence and the European V. vinifera corresponded to a differentiated nuclear lineage. Main conclusions We obtained some evidence that subgenus Vitis has an Asian origin and then dispersed to Europe and North America. Geographic separation was followed by diversification, presumably during the Pleistocene, resulting in phylogeographic patterns similar to other biota. In contrast to chloroplast DNA, nuclear DNA shows a larger than expected genetic variation. Our molecular data also highlight the need to re‐examine certain aspects of the current subgeneric classification. 相似文献
