Different aspects of the fertilization of the two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) were studied. It appeared that after the mating act of virgin females, haploid eggs were produced first before the appearance of diploid eggs. From this and other facts, it was concluded that fertilization of the oocytes occurs in a very early stage of egg development. The fertilization is assumed to take place in the ovary and not in the oviduct.By using genetic markers, it could be proved that in most cases the first mating is effective. Later matings usually are ineffective. It is suggested that the sperm supply in the first mating determines the success of later matings.
Zusammenfassung Die Befruchtung der Bohnenspinnmilbe wurde unter verschiedenen Gesichtspunkten untersucht. Nach der Begattung jungfräulicher Weibchen wurden zunächst haploide Eier abgelegt, bevor diploide Eier produziert wurden. Daraus und aus anderen Grüunden wird geschlossen, daß die Befruchtung der Oocyten in einem sehr frühen Stadium der Entwicklung erfolgt. Die Befruchtung findet vermutlicht im Ovar und nicht im Ovidukt statt.Unter Verwendung genetischer Markierung wurde nachgewiesen, daß in den meisten Fällen die erste Begattung ausschlaggebend ist. Spätere Kopulationen bleiben gewöhnlich wirkungslos. Es wird vermutet, daß die Spermafüllung bei der ersten Begattung den Erfolg späterer Begattungen bestimmt.相似文献

To investigate and identify the ticks prevalent in the North East part of India, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and DNA sequence of nuclear second internal transcribed spacer (ITS2) and mitochondrial 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) were used. Based on the morphological and molecular analysis, the ticks infesting cattle of North East India were found to be Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus and Haemaphysalis bispinosa. ITS2 and 16S rDNA sequence from R. (B.) microplus and H. bispinosa were amplified using universal and gene specific primers, sequenced and analysed. The length of the amplified ITS2 sequence of R. (B.) microplus and H. bispinosa, were found to be approximately 1,500 and 1,700 bp, respectively. The length of the 16S rDNA sequences in both the ticks was found to be similar in size, but they differ in their base pair constitutions. This is the first report of the nucleotide sequences of ITS2 and 16S rDNA of H. bispinosa. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that H. bispinosa is a close relative of H. longicornis. A polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism diagnostic tool was developed based on HindIII digestion of ITS2 in order to facilitate the identification of these two species which cannot be distinguished once it is fully-fed. Field data from 48 plots monitored during diverse weather conditions in two separate years were subjected to multiple regression analysis to determine which factors were related to spider-mite aerial dispersal. With the number of aerially dispersing mites as the dependent variable, partial regression coefficients (b) for mite population density and percent corn-leaf area infested with mites were positive, while those for percentNeozygites-infected mites and hours per week 90% r.h. were negative. When an aerial dispersal index (number of aerially dispersing mites/mites per plant) was used as the dependent variable, the partial regression coefficient for percent leaf area infested was positive, while coefficients for hours per week 90% r.h. and percentNeozygites-infected mites were negative. Mite aerial dispersal was greatest in predator-suppressed field plots under dry weather conditions. Mite aerial dispersal was substantially reduced in plots where moist weather conditions induced epizootics ofNeozygites floridana before corn plants became entirely infested with mites. 相似文献

The effects of triflumuron on the mortality, fecundity, and fertility of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, were evaluated in the laboratory. No differences in toxicity for larvae, protonymphs and deutonymphs were observed, but immature
stages were 3.8-times more susceptible than adults at the LC50. The compound exhibited a direct contact ovicidal activity influenced by eggs age. 48–72 hold eggs were significantly more
sensitive than eggs of the other age classes. No hatch inhibition was observed in eggs laid by treated adult females using
a sublethal dose at two physiological times (<12 and 48–72h old). However, fecundity decreased in younger treated females,
but it increased in the older-ones. The toxicity for immatures and eggs, and the sublethal effects described suggest that
triflumuron could be an interesting incorporation in integrated pest programs of T. urticae.

Genetic affinities between spider mite Tetranychus urticae populations in a non-agricultural area II

Partial reproductive incompatability between spider mite populations inhabiting adjacent glasshouses is known to be very common. It was found in this study that the size of an area occupied by an intra-fertile population in a non-agricultural habitat is probably in the order of 5–10 km across. Clinal variation in fertility factors is indicated but many irregularities occur.
Zusammenfassung Partielle Fortpflanzungsunverträglichkeiten zwischen Spinnmilbenpopulationen sind eine sehr verbreitete Erscheinung. In einem Glashauskomplex können Spinnmilben aus benachbarten Glashäusern ausgeprägte Fortpflanzungsbarrieren besitzen, welche sich in hoher Eimortalität bei Kreuzungsweibchen äussern.In nichtlandwirtschaftlichen Situationen ist das Areal einer intrafertilen Population viel grösser (De Boer, 1980). Für die vorliegende Untersuchung wurden die Milben in nichtlandwirtschaftlichen Dünengebieten längs der Nordsee in den Niederlanden, in Belgien und in Nordfrankreich gesammelt. Starke Vermehrungsbarrieren wurden zwischen Populationen entfernter Herkünfte gefunden. Die Grösse des Areals interfertiler Milbenpopulationen misst wahrscheinlich um 5 bis 10 km im Durchmesser. Es gibt Andeutungen für einen allmählichen Übergang der Fruchtbarkeitsfaktoren, doch kommen viele Unregelmässigkeiten vor.相似文献

Using susceptible and resistant reference strains and standard bioassay methods a new miticide product was screened for efficacy and cross-resistance against two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch. Experimental product NN1 850.0 EW (fenpyroximate and propargite 3:10 ratio) was significantly (P<0.05) more toxic than either compound tested alone (co-toxicity index 1029). Non-overlapping 95% CIs at the LC50 and LC99 level suggest that there is no cross-resistance to NN1 850.0 EW from existing organophosphate and pyrethroid resistance. NN1 850.0 EW is worthy of further development for T. urticae control. 相似文献

Previous studies have demonstrated that Gynandropsis gynandra emits acetonitrile as a foliar volatile from intact plants and isolated leaves, and that this compound is an effective spider mite repellent. This study has used gas chromatography–mass spectrometry to investigate volatile compounds emitted from homogenised G. gynandra leaves to evaluate their tissue acetonitrile content and to look for other compounds that might be exploited for the management of spider mites. Acetonitrile was absent from the homogenised tissues of five lines of G. gynandra, studied over two seasons. Thirteen volatile compounds were emitted by G. gynandra at significantly higher levels than mite‐susceptible pot roses, including isothiocyanates, aldehydes, esters, alcohols and terpenes. Six representative compounds were selected to assess bioactivity. Spider mite populations were completely inactive after a 2 h exposure to butyl isothiocyanate, 2,4‐heptadienal or β‐cyclocitral, when evaporated from 0.5 µL of pure compound in a 100 mL air space. The same level of inactivity was achieved after exposure to 5.0 μL of (Z)‐2‐pentenol or a 25 μL volume of 50% v/v Z‐3‐hexenal or 5% w/v methyl isothiocyanate. Dissipation of β‐cyclocitral following 24 h exposure to its concentration of 5 μL in a 100 mL air space resulted in a 6% recovery of the spider mites but at higher concentrations no recovery was observed. These identified compounds may have potential as extracted products for management of spider mites in roses, and a high constitutive content of them in roses may be of value in targeted plant breeding for enhanced insect resistance. The range of isothiocyanates found in G. gynandra accounts for the bitter taste of the leaves when used as a traditional vegetable in Eastern Africa and provides a target for manipulation to improve palatability. 相似文献

We examined the functional response of Nesidiocoris tenuis to varying densities of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae and found that the data fit a Type II response, with the attack rate (a) increasing with increased predator size. This article integrates studies on the genetic variation of T. urticae populations and the interspecific variation of several tetranychid species. It aims at obtaining insights into the roles of the historical, geographical and ecological factors in the partitioning of variation of species. Two types of molecular markers were used to determine whether the patterns of genetic variation in mites inhabiting different host plants can shed light on the existence of host plant associations. The ribosomal sequences of the second internal transcribed spacer (ITS2), which evolves through concerted evolution, are good indicators of long-term isolation between populations and reveal exceptional homogeneity in a worldwide sampling of T. urticae. The mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) sequences do not disclose old divergences related to host plant in this mite but rather suggest recent geographic colonization patterns of the species. Allozyme variation on a fine scale gives some evidence of host associations in the case of citrus trees. However, if any divergence of mites related to this host plant exists, it probably prevails in local populations only and it should not be old enough to be revealed by a phylogenetic analysis of mitochondrial COI sequences. The phyletic constraint in the evolution of feeding specificity in the family Tetra-nychidae is investigated based on a phylogenetic analysis of mitochondrial sequences. The results provide some support for the hypothesis that an evolutionary trend towards polyphagy has occurred in the family. Overall, it seems that the major characteristic of T. urticae is its high colonization potential. Polyphagy has enhanced its successful spread and may have led to connectivity between populations worldwide. © Rapid Science Ltd. 1998 相似文献

Choosing a suitable habitat is a main step in the settlement process, particularly for species having weak movement abilities. Reliable cues are thus needed for habitat selection. In silk-spinning arthropods, silk can be used as a social cue to select an appropriate location. Silk can also provide information on the presence of related or non-related individuals. In this article, we compare the settlement behaviour of two strains of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, in response to the presence of silk woven by an individual of its own or another strain. We then examined how individuals behaved when confronted with both types of silk (own/another strain) simultaneously. Both strains were sensitive to related silk. Settlement decision for both strains did not differ according to the origin of the silk. Mites used the silk as a communication cue for habitat selection and strain discrimination. Our results provide experimental evidence for the use of multiple social cues in the settlement decision by weaving mites. 相似文献

Tetranychus urticae distribution on spatial scale both within leaf and within plant was assessed by the index of dispersion (Id), Lloyd's mean crowding index (Imc), Lloyd's patchiness index (Ip) and Morisita's index (I δ). Id values in all leaves and leaf parts promised aggregated distribution regardless of leaf position and leaf areas. The values of Imc estimated were all larger than the mean. The value of Ip and I δ also indicated increased degree of aggregation and clumping in all leaves and leaf areas. While pattern of distribution is same in all the leaves and leaf parts, population estimated is high in young fully opened top leaves than the grown-up middle and bottom leaves. Within the young leaf, top area of upper side of the leaf housed relatively increased number of T. urticae than bottom area of upper side of the leaf. Because young fully opened leaves consistently contained major proportion of mites (48.33%), particularly the top leaf area (79.62%), these leaves and leaf areas can be used as sampling unit for population estimation to minimise the time spent on sampling. However, it warrants future research for predictive models to associate a number of mites of top leaf to other leaves and top area to other areas. Further, releasing predators in young fully opened leaves may increase predator efficiency if supplementary studies on predator–prey relationship on spatial scale are triggered. 相似文献

Three different strains, homozygous for a radiation induced structural chromosome mutation (T), exhibiting negative hererosis, were tested for their ability to displace the standard (wild-type) karyotype from experimental populations. The experimental populations were initiated by mixing fertilized females of both a T strain and the standard strain at different ratios. Two of the T strains showed the ability to displace the standard karyotype if the initial frequency of the T karyotype was at least 0.65. The additional release of T males into the experimental population accelerated considerably the process of displacement of the standard karyotype, especially if the initial T karyotype frequency was 0.65.A computer model for simulating the process of population displacement in Tetranychus urticae was developed. The model accounts for variation in developmental time and for the age dependency of variables related to fitness. The simulations showed a good correlation with the experimental results. A system analysis on the sensitivity of the model output to varying different population parameters demonstrated that especially the relative number of males produced by a T strain and the female developmental rate were of significant importance to the population displacement ability of a T strain. The negative influence of genetic markers on general fitness and various aspects of practical application of the method are discussed. 相似文献

Five generations of inbreeding by sibmating in an arrhenotokous mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) caused depression as measured in the hatchability of the eggs. It appeared that mainly the haploid eggs were affected.

Some chrysanthemum leaf characteristics were evaluated to determine their importance as nutrition for, and as factors of resistance to,Tetranychus urticae Koch. These characteristics were: leaf age and chemical composition, content of phenolic substances, total nitrogen, and soluble protein.Mite density was lower on young leaves than on mature ones. Young leaves appear to be protected againstT. urticae by a higher concentration of mono-and polyphenols, although they contained higher levels of nutrients than mature ones. After mite infestation, the most valuable young leaves were also the best-protected leaves on their shoots. Ethanolic extract of Mentha pulegium was evaluated against the adults of important arthropod pest species, the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae. Potential acaricidal impact of plant was determined by contact application. Phytotoxicity was recorded after 24 h. The value of LC50 was 59,149 mg L?1. Also, LT50 values were 27.42, 25.56 and 19.79 h for 35,000, 50,000 and 100,000 mg L?1, respectively. Also, results showed that this ethanolic extract had impact on repellency of T. urticae. All of the tested concentrations were similar in the repellency test. On the other hand, the used concentrations (1000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 mg L?1) affected on the oviposition of mite females. These extract doses significantly decreased the egg laying on the treated surface. The current study indicated that this ethanolic extract can be used as a safe acaricide on T. urticae. 相似文献
