It is recognized by the FAO that management of fish resources in the western Indian Ocean is complicated by the lack of data on the basic biology and landing statistics for exploited fish species. In this paper data are presented on the population biology of kingsoldier bream, Argyrops spinifer (Forsskål 1775), in the Arabian Sea with a view to contributing towards the development of management plans for its sustainable exploitation. Samples were obtained from the Omani artisanal hand‐line fishery catch, January 2001–December 2002. Total length (LT) of fish sampled ranged from 20 to 68 cm (males) and 25 to 70 cm (females). The male : female ratio was similar up to 55 cm LT but the larger size‐classes were composed predominately of male fish. LT/carcass weight (WC) relations for male and female fish were similar and the combined data produced an equation WC = 0.00005 × LT2.67. Marginal increment analysis indicated an annual cycle of opaque and translucent ring formation in otoliths that was related to the change in surface water temperature during the annual monsoon period. The opaque zone was completed in May and the translucent zone began to form in June. Female and male fish age ranged between 2 and 25 years. Both males and females exhibited similar asymptotic growth patterns; the combined von Bertalanffy growth function was Lt = 64.6(1 ? e[?0.142(t + 0.489)]). Gonadosomatic indices and gonad condition of male and female fish indicated that the spawning season occurred between September and January. Size (L50) and age at first maturity (A50) were estimated to be 36.5 cm LT and 5.0 years for males and 37.2 cm LT and 5.6 years females, respectively. The results of this study provide fundamental information on the biology and population dynamics of A. spinifer in the Arabian Sea that can be used in management models for the continued sustainable exploitation of this species in the Omani demersal coastal fisheries.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to determine the features of the bottom trawl fishery such as catch composition, catch per unit effort (CPUE) and the discard ratios in the S??ac?k Bay fishery, central Aegean Sea. A commercial trawler conducted trawl operations from October 2008 to April 2009, with a total of 18 trawls in autumn, winter and spring (six hauls per season). In total, 84 species were identified, 47 of which belonged to the bony fishes, while other groups contributed nine (cartilaginous fish), 10 (cephalopods), 13 (crustaceans), four (echinoderms) and one (porifera) species. Some 49 species were discarded regardless of length. Total catch was 3693.2 kg of which 66.8% was marketed. Among the commercial species, rose shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris) dominated the catch composition with 998 kg. However, discards accounted for 33.2% of the total catch biomass, with the majority represented by Lampanyctus crocodilus with 97 kg total weight. The study area is considered one of the most efficient trawling zones in the Aegean Sea and thus requires long‐term monitoring in terms of fish stocks and trawl discards for the preparation of well‐informed decisions for a sustainable fishery.  相似文献

Age structure and growth parameters were determined for a population of small spotted grunt, Pomadasys commersonnii in the Arabian Sea. Small spotted grunt samples were collected monthly between September 2007 and August 2008 by beam trawl [40 mm cod‐end mesh size] surveys conducted along the Arabian Sea coast of Oman from Ras Al‐Had in the north to the Oman‐Yemen border in the south west of Salalah between latitudes 16o 33′N and 22o 21′N and longitude 53o 09′ and 59o 55′ E and from depths of 20 to 250 m respectively. Marginal increment analysis of the sagittal otolith confirmed the deposition of annual increments on transverse sections, validating this technique for age and growth studies. Fish size (Fork Length, FL) ranged between 33–78 cm and age of fish ranged between 2 and 14 years with 5–9 years old fish comprising the majority of the catch. Both males and female exhibited asymptotic patterns of growth and the combined growth curve for both sexes provided von Bertalanffy growth (VBG) parameters of L = 77.2 cm FL (≡83.8 cm Total Length), = 0.232/y and t0 = ?0.058 y. VBG parameters, derived from Length‐Frequency Distribution Analysis (LFA) using ELEFAN1, PROJMAT and SLCA, obtained similar values (average values for the 3 methods: L = 78.8 cm FL,= 0.35/y and t0 = ?0.64 y) to those obtained from otolith analysis. A strong linear relationship was observed between otolith weight and age, and although age residuals ±4 years was observed between sagittal otolith age and estimated age (depending on sex and otolith weight), the results indicated that otolith weight could be used as a rapid proxy to estimate age and derive VBG parameters. In conclusion, both otolith ageing and LFA methods provided similar L and k values and the average values derived from all 4 methods lies within the auximetric plot for the species providing confidence in the VBG parameters obtained for small spotted grunt in the Arabian Sea.  相似文献

The ages and growth of longnose trevally (Carangoides chrysophrys), caught in the northwest Arabian Sea between April 2005 and September 2006, were investigated. Age and growth of 336 fish specimens were determined using sectioned sagittae otoliths. Annual opaque growth rings were formed between December and March, with the majority being laid down in February and March, coinciding with the spawning period and high water temperatures. Marginal zone or edge analysis was used to validate the annual deposition of the opaque zone in the otoliths. This species showed large variations in length‐at‐age, suggesting large growth variations among individuals of the same cohort. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth model differed significantly between the sexes, with males having larger mean lengths at age and reaching a larger asymptotic size. The von Bertalanffy growth models were TL (cm) = 73.34[1‐exp (?0.25 (t + 1.21))] and TL(cm) = 73.26[1‐exp (?0.24 (t + 1.20))] for males and females, respectively.  相似文献

Knowledge on selectivity is considered essential for an adequate management of the trawl fishery. This paper compares the selectivity of conventionally used codends of 44 mm diamond mesh, 40 mm square, and hexagonal mesh for Atlantic horse mackerel, European hake and greater forkbeard in the eastern Mediterranean. Data were collected using the covered codend method and analyzed using the logistic equation with the maximum likelihood method. Mean selection curves were analyzed and compared using the between-haul variations model. The mean L 50 v alues of diamond, square and hexagonal mesh codends are 14.7, 15.9 and 17.1 cm total length (TL) for horse mackerel, 10.4, 14.4 and 11.0 cm TL for hake and 12.2, 15.8 and 12.7 cm TL for greater forkbeard, respectively. For horse mackerel, the differences among the codends are statistically significant (P   <   0.05); however, the L 50 values for all three meshes are higher than the minimum landing size (13 cm TL). For hake and greater forkbeard, the L 50 value for the square mesh codend is significantly different from the values for diamond and hexagonal meshes (P   <   0.01), whereas there is no significant difference between diamond and hexagonal meshes (P   >   0.05). Regardless of the mesh shape, L 50 values were substantially lower than the minimum landing size or size at first maturity for hake and greater forkbeard. To enable more effective solutions, research on species-selective trawls is required for the Mediterranean demersal trawl fishery.  相似文献

The population dynamics of the black pomfret, Parastromateus niger, sampled from commercial gill‐net catches from Kuwaiti waters of the Arabian Gulf, were investigated from October 2003 to September 2005. Length‐based stock assessment using the FiSAT software package showed an asymptotic length of 65 cm TL and growth curvature of 0.34 year−1. Raw data as well as that corrected for probability of capture indicated a recruitment from February to September. The total mortality coefficient was estimated to be 1.20, a natural mortality of 0.68 and fishing mortality of 0.52. The selectivity model based on the running average showed that 25% of 14.0 cm TL fish, 50% of specimens reaching 16.3 cm TL, and 75% of all specimens of 20.2 cm TL encountering the gear were retained. Relative yield‐per‐recruit analyses revealed a current exploitation rate of 0.43; this is below the maximum sustainable yield index, indicating for sustainable fishery of P. niger that the exploitation rate could be increased to 0.6, provided size of the fish at first capture, i.e. the legal size, is also increased to 32.5 cm TL. These results suggest that P. niger stocks in Kuwaiti waters, contrary to existing views, are moderately exploited. This conclusion, however, is critically dependent on the estimate of natural mortality, which requires further confirmation.  相似文献

Fish by‐catch from coastal small‐scale shrimp trammel net fishery was estimated from fishery‐dependent surveys in Izmir Bay (Aegean Sea), Turkey, during the 2004 and 2005 fishing seasons. Sampling data were obtained from 170 observations onboard 18 commercial fishing vessels. Fifty‐two species belonging to 31 families of fish, including cephalopods, constituted the by‐catch. Diplodus annularis was the most abundant by‐catch species followed by Loligo vulgaris > Sepia officinalis > Mullus barbatus > Boops boops > and Solea vulgaris. The estimated total ratio of fish by‐catch to shrimp was 1 : 1.09 kg.  相似文献

The tub gurnard Chelidonichthys lucerna has been identified by ICES as a potential commercial species in the northeast Atlantic with recommendations made to monitor landings and discards and to derive information on population biology for stock assessment purposes, however, data are lacking for the species in the northeast Atlantic. Therefore, aims of this study were to provide data on the size/age‐structure and patterns of growth, maturity and mortality of C. lucerna in Northwest Wales, UK, and in doing so to provide data on the biological characteristics of the most northerly population studied to date for comparison with the existing data for southerly Mediterranean populations. Data on the age, growth and maturity of C. lucerna were collected by otter trawling (73 mm cod‐end stretched mesh size) in the coastal waters of Northwest Wales, UK in October (2000–2011, excluding 2006). Total length (TL) of fish sampled ranged between 10.5–41.0 cm (males) and 10.4–57.5 cm (females). The majority of the female fish were between 20–30 cm TL (60.2%) and the majority of the male fish between 20–30 cm TL (58.3%) respectively. TL/weight (W) relations for male and female fish were similar and the combined data was described by W = 0.0067 TL3.10. Age of fish ranged between 1–7 years old for female fish and 1–5 years old for male fish respectively with the majority of female fish 3 years old (40%) and the majority of male fish 3 years old (37%). The age structures of female and male tub gurnards were not significantly different with the older age classes consisting predominantly of female fish. Both males and females exhibited similar asymptotic growth patterns and the combined von Bertalanffy growth function was TLt = 51.6 (1 ? e [?0.25(t + 0.41)]). Instantaneous rates of total mortality were calculated as 1.04 year?1 for males and 1.11 year?1 for females. The size (L50) and age at first maturity (A50) were estimated to be 29.1 cm TL and 2.8 years for males, 27.7 cm TL and 2.7 years for females and 28.0 cm TL and 2.8 years for both sexes combined. The results of this study provide the first information on the biology and population dynamics of C. lucerna in the Irish Sea, the first data collected in the northeast Atlantic since 1985 and the most northerly population studied to date.  相似文献

The population dynamics parameters of Diplodus annularis from the eastern middle Adriatic Sea were studied. Total lengths of 1704 specimens ranging from 3.3 to 23.0 cm were obtained from commercial and fishery‐independent catches (2000–2002). The species spawns from April through the end of August, with a peak in May. Overall male to female ratio was 1.00 : 1.05. The species is a rudimentary hermaphrodite in the Adriatic Sea. Total lengths (TL) at 50% maturity were 9.0 cm for males and 10.0 cm for females. These estimated sizes were smaller than the minimum legal landing size (MLS = 15 cm) and greater than the actual minimum landing size (Lc = 7.1 cm) for the bottom trawl net. All specimens sampled were fully mature above 13 cm TL. The oldest individual was 13 years old. Length–weight relationship showed close to isometric growth (b = 3.073). Parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth equation were: L = 23.95 cm; K = 0.126 per year; t0 = −1.664 year; r2 = 0.896. The low value of total mortality (Z = 0.72) was a consequence of the relatively low rate of natural mortality (M = 0.39) and fishing mortality (F = 0.33). The exploitation ratio was E = 0.46. Estimated parameters and the relative yield‐per‐recruit analysis did not indicate any overexploitation of the species in the study area. However, the estimates include uncertainties and require further confirmation, especially of the natural mortality.  相似文献

The biology and fisheries of Tilapia mariae, the only tilapiine cichlid fish in the Iba Oku (Uyo, Nigeria) wetland stream was studied. There were more females than males in the population. The smallest sexually mature female fish was 11.0 cm total length (TL) while the size at 50% maturity was 17.1 cm TL. Absolute fecundity (Fe) ranged from 953 to 3200 eggs and was positively correlated with TL. The fish bred year‐round with peaks in November, March–April and July–September. The seasonalized von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) was fitted to the 12 consecutive months length–frequency data (n = 2439) to obtain a VBGF with the following parameters: L∞ (asymptotic length) = 30.4 cm TL, K (growth coefficient) = 0.4 year?1, C (amplitude of growth oscillation) =0.4, and WP (winter point) = 0.9. The seasonalized length‐converted catch curve method gave Z (instantaneous total mortality coefficient) as 1.75 year?1, M (instantaneous natural mortality coefficient) was 0.99 year?1 while F (instantaneous fishing mortality coefficient) was 0.76 year?1 and E (=F/Z the current exploitation rate) was 0.43. Length at first capture (Lc) was 17.7 cm TL. The fish was recruited to the fishery year‐round with two pulses. From the Beverton and Holt relative yield per recruit analysis via the selection ogive procedure, Emax (predicted maximum exploitation rate) was 0.54. The stock was not overexploited, since E < Emax. This study also showed that the fish is an r‐selected species with a few K‐selected traits.  相似文献

Rutilus frisii kutum (Kamensky 1901) is one of the economically important fishes that migrate for spawning to rivers in the Caspian Sea. However, the fish populations have slowly decreased in recent years. The declining of these resources has resulted from some activities by the Iranian Fisheries Organization (IFO is responsible for stock enhancement) to catch some broodstocks of Rutilus frisii kutum from their natural spawning rivers. The broodstocks are caught for artificial propagation of the fish. Artificial propagations are carried out every year to produce fingerlings to be released into the rivers in the Caspian Sea. In recent years, total catch of this fish have greatly fluctuated due to the disruption of the natural spawning grounds and over fishing. The substantial reduction to 1,298 metric tons, the lowest total catch reported in 1984–1985, could be due to over-exploitation of the fishery resources. However, the total catch has increased after the fingerlings release programs started in 1979. The total numbers of Rutilus frisii kutum fingerlings released had increased from 12 million to 225 million in 2002, to 155 million pieces in 2003, to 179 million pieces in 2004, 229 million pieces in 2005, 174 million pieces in 2006, 262 million pieces in 2007 and 187.1 in 2008. The total catch was also increased from 6,417 metric ton to 8,984 metric ton, to 7,036 metric ton, to 9,631 metric ton and 16,117, 17,196, 14,835 in years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, respectively.  相似文献

The effects of an increase in the codend mesh size from 44 to 56 and 80 mm on size selectivity of the two by‐catch species (the European hake Merluccius merlucius and the tub gurnard Trigla lucerna) commonly captured in the shrimp fishery in the Sea of Marmara, were evaluated. The parameters of the logistic selectivity model were estimated by maximum likelihood. Length at 50% retention, L50, was found to increase with mesh size for both species. The L50 values of 44, 56 and 80 mm were, respectively, 19.8, 21.5 and 33.4 cm for European hake, 17.9, 17.7 and 25.6 cm for tub gurnard. The main conclusions are that 44 mm and 56 mm diamond mesh codends retain a considerable amount of undersized hake and tub gurnard as by‐catch in the shrimp fishery. With 80 mm mesh size codend, most juvenile European hake are released. For the tub gurnard, however, even this mesh size does not provide a good enough selection. From the biological point of view, it is concluded that the legal 44 mm diamond mesh codend does not provide satisfactory selection for European hake and the tub‐gurnard in trawl fisheries of the Sea of Marmara.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to investigate boxlip mullet, Oedalechilus labeo (Cuvier, 1829), a species that lives in open, oligotrophic and stenohaline waters, exhibits slower growth rates and has a longer life span than other mugilids. A total of 1662 specimens ranging from 2.2 to 24.4 cm TL were obtained by beach seine in the eastern Adriatic Sea. The overall sex ratio was unbalanced in favour of females (1.0 : 1.3) and differed statistically from the expected 1 : 1. The reproductive season extended through summer and autumn. All specimens above 15 cm TL were sexually mature. Length‐weight relationship for males was TW (g) = 0.010 × TL (cm)2.975 and TW (g) = 0.009 × TL (cm)3.014 for females. The age study comprised 150 (38.5%) males, 192 (49.4%) females, and 47 (12.1%) immature O. labeo, for a total of 389 individuals. Age of the fish was determined by scale readings, with the maximum age of 10+ observed for both sexes. A predominance of age classes 1+ and 2+ (71.0%) in the total catch was noted. Parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth equation for combined samples were: L = 25.93 cm, k = 0.192 year?1 and t0 = ?1.427 year. The growth parameters showed that males grew at a slightly lower rate than females. The size and age frequency distributions of both sexes were not significantly different. When compared to other mugilids, O. labeo reaches the lowest maximum body length and has a relatively slower growth and a longer life span.  相似文献

We estimated the effect of the gill‐net fisheries targeted at whitefish (Coregonus sp.) on anadromous sea trout, Salmo trutta, in the Gulf of Bothnia, Baltic Sea using separate data for fish species. The analysis of sea trout captures was based on tagging and recapture data collected in 1998–2011, while whitefish data were derived from individual samples of commercial fisheries from the same period. The mesh sizes used in gill‐net fishing and the seasonal and temporal distributions of recaptured sea trout and sampled whitefish were compared in the northern and southern Gulf of Bothnia. The trout had typically spent 1–2 years at sea, and they were mainly immature with a median body length of 40–43 cm at the time of recapture in gill nets. Despite the increase in the minimum permitted landing size from 40 to 50 cm in 2008, the median length of recaptured trout remained unchanged during the study period. Most (59%) of the gillnetted trout were caught in the southern Gulf of Bothnia in gill nets with mesh sizes of 40–45 mm, which were also used in the whitefish fishery (72%). In the northern Gulf of Bothnia, nets with a smaller mesh size of 25–39 mm took 83% of the whitefish catch and 39% from recaptured trout. In both areas, the overlap in mesh sizes used to gill‐net catch whitefish and sea trout increased during the study period. There were clear seasonal and areal differences in the relative probability of sea trout being captured in gill nets, suggesting that carefully tailored spatial and temporal restrictions on gill‐net fisheries could provide a tool to protect young sea trout without causing intolerable difficulties for the fisheries targeting other species.  相似文献

This study evaluates the catch rates, species composition and reproductive biology of flotsam‐associated fishes targeted by ring nets off the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. Catch and number of multiday boats operating with ring nets were collected at Beruwala fishery harbor on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, March to October 2013, by making fortnightly field visits. Fish samples were collected randomly from the unloaded ring net catches to analyze reproductive biology. Twelve fish species belonging to four major families: Scombridae, Carangidae, Coryphaenidae and Balistidae were identified in the ring net catches and five species, Decapterus russelli, Katsuwonus pelamis, Thunnus albacares, Elagatis bipinnulata and Canthidermis maculatus were predominant. An average of 25 ± 12% multiday boats landing at the Beruwala fishery harbor operated with ring nets each month, with an average monthly catch rate fluctuating from 730 ± 101 to 3924 ± 1094 kg per boat per trip. Catch rates of tunas and carangids were significantly higher than the other fish groups (anova ; d.f. = 3, P < 0.05). Total fish landed by ring nets at the Beruwala fishery harbor during the study period was 1456 tonnes. Species belonging to the family carangidae had the highest percentage contribution (46.6%) to the ring net landings followed by tuna (34%). Similar‐size individuals ranging from 24 to 31 cm were landed by ring nets, with all landed individuals belonging to K. pelamis, T. albacares and E. bipinnulata having immature gonads. The findings of this study will be useful locally as well as regionally to manage the ring net fishery and to aid in implementing measures to manage the highly migratory tuna species.  相似文献

Analyses of morphometric parameters of the black pomfret, Parastromateus niger, in the Kuwaiti waters of the Arabian Gulf during a 44‐month study revealed the following length‐length relationships: TL (cm) = 0.63 + 1.15SL (females), TL (cm) = 0.94 + 1.14SL (males) and TL (cm) = 0.75 + 1.15SL (both sexes including juveniles). The 95% CI of the exponent in length‐weight relationship varied from 2.788 to 2.796 in females, 2.726 to 2.732 in males, 2.779 to 2.784 for both sexes and 2.590 to 2.613 in juveniles, all indicating an allometric relationship. Simultaneous analysis of Fulton’s condition factor (K) and GSI indicate that spawning in black pomfret peaks in May and June even though the fish remain in good condition throughout the spawning season. The Fulton’s condition factor was statistically discriminatory in determining the well‐being of P. niger. Variation in average maximum condition was significant between sexes and also higher in 2004 as compared to 2005. The mean size at first sexual maturity (SL50%) was 17.5 cm for males and 29 cm for females. Fecundity ranged from 71 305 to 3 895 449 eggs and correlated positively with: (a) ovary‐free body weight (P < 0.05), standard length (P < 0.05) and ovary weight (P < 0.05), and negatively with egg size (P > 0.05). Fecundity‐total length relationship was best described by the logarithmic equation of the form F = 0.898 + 3.15 × TL3.15. The use of results of such morphometric studies in the management of the P. niger species in the Arabian Gulf is suggested due to its growing commercial importance.  相似文献

The feeding habits of the megrim, Lepidorhombus whiffiagonis , from the central Adriatic Sea were investigated with respect to fish size and seasons. Stomach contents of 510 specimens, 9.0–28.9 cm total length (TL), collected by bottom-trawl from 2004 to 2006 were analyzed. The percentage of 97 empty stomachs varied significantly with season (maximum during the winter, 32.1%; minimum during summer, 7.4%). The food composition suggests that the megrim is a carnivorous fish. Prey items identified in the stomachs belong to four major groups: Teleostei, Decapoda, Mysidacea and Cephalopoda. Teleosts were the most important (%IRI = 82.2), especially in fish larger than 14 cm TL. Mysidacea constituted the main prey for fish less than 14 cm TL. At the species level, the teleost Antonogadus megalokynodon (%IRI = 1.5) and decapod Processa canaliculata (%IRI = 0.9) were the most frequent prey. The mean weight of stomach contents increased significantly for fish larger than 14 cm TL, while the mean number of prey items did not differ significantly among size classes. Diet composition showed little seasonal variation; teleosts were the most important prey in all seasons, especially during spring. The lowest intensity of feeding recorded in winter could be related to the lower sea temperature and to the spawning period.  相似文献

Catch composition, landing patterns and biological aspects of sharks caught by commercial fishing fleet operating in the Andaman Sea were recorded from landing sites in Ranong province of Thailand over a period of 1 year. Of the 64 species previously reported in the existing Thailand checklist, only 17 species were recorded in this study. Shark landings from the Andaman Sea appear now to be dominated largely by bamboo sharks Chiloscyllium spp. (Hemiscylliidae), which contribute c. 65% of the total number of sharks recorded. The carcharhinid sharks comprised c. 30·5% to the total catch, while the remaining c. 4·5% of landings comprised sharks from the families Squalidae, Stegostomatidae, Sphyrnidae and Triakidae. The catch composition is remarkably different from the previous landing survey in 2004, in that the current study found noticeable declines in landings of slow‐growing, late‐ maturing and low‐fecundity species (especially sphyrnid and carcharhinid species). The absences of many species and changes in life‐stage composition suggest that the populations of these groups may be close to collapse. The results from this study emphasize the urgency for additional research and monitoring efforts and also the need for management incentives in order to manage shark fisheries effectively in the Andaman Sea.  相似文献

Large‐bodied fish are critical for sustaining coral reef fisheries, but little is known about the vulnerability of these fish to global warming. This study examined the effects of elevated temperatures on the movement and activity patterns of the common coral trout Plectropomus leopardus (Serranidae), which is an important fishery species in tropical Australia and throughout the Indo West‐Pacific. Adult fish were collected from two locations on Australia's Great Barrier Reef (23°S and 14°S) and maintained at one of four temperatures (24, 27, 30, 33 °C). Following >4 weeks acclimation, the spontaneous swimming speeds and activity patterns of individuals were recorded over a period of 12 days. At 24–27 °C, spontaneous swimming speeds of common coral trout were 0.43–0.45 body lengths per second (bls?1), but dropped sharply to 0.29 bls?1 at 30 °C and 0.25 bls?1 at 33 °C. Concurrently, individuals spent 9.3–10.6% of their time resting motionless on the bottom at 24–27 °C, but this behaviour increased to 14.0% at 30 °C and 20.0% of the time at 33 °C (mean ± SE). The impact of temperature was greatest for smaller individuals (<45 cm TL), showing significant changes to swimming speeds across every temperature tested, while medium (45–55 cm TL) and large individuals (>55 cm TL) were first affected by 30 °C and 33 °C, respectively. Importantly, there was some indication that populations can adapt to elevated temperature if presented with adequate time, as the high‐latitude population decreased significantly in swimming speeds at both 30 °C and 33 °C, while the low‐latitude population only showed significant reductions at 33 °C. Given that movement and activity patterns of large mobile species are directly related to prey encounter rates, ability to capture prey and avoid predators, any reductions in activity patterns are likely to reduce overall foraging and energy intake, limit the energy available for growth and reproduction, and affect the fitness and survival of individuals and populations.  相似文献

Sorting grids with two different bar spacings (12 mm and 14 mm) were tested to improve size selectivity of the commercially important fish species, red mullet (Mullus barbatus) and annular sea bream (Diplodus annularis), in Turkish bottom trawl fishery. Fishing trials were carried out with R/V ‘Egesüf’ between April and May 2003 in Izmir Bay, Aegean Sea, using a traditional bottom trawl. Selectivity data were collected by the top cover method and analyzed by means of a logistic equation with the maximum likelihood method. Selectivity parameters for individual hauls were obtained with the software program cc 2000 . Mean selectivity was also estimated and compared using the EC Model software that takes between‐haul variations into account. The codend catch size as an additional explanatory variable was used in the comparison. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov (K–S) test was also applied to detect differences between length‐frequency distributions in the upper and lower bags of the 12 and 14 mm bar spacings for red mullet and annular sea bream. The mean L50 values of red mullet were 8.7 and 10.0 cm with the 12 and 14 mm grids, respectively. The L50 value of 14 mm was comparable with the L50 value of the codend mesh size; however, the 12 mm value was rather low. The mean L50 values of 12 and 14 mm bar spacings were 8.8 and 10.4 cm for annular sea bream, respectively; the value of 14 mm bar spacing was very close to 50% size at sexual maturity of the species (10.5 cm). The K–S test indicated length distributions of red mullet and annular sea bream in the 12 and 14 mm upper and lower bags as significantly different (P < 0.05). These results show that improving the size selectivity in a multi‐species fishery using a single selective device is rather difficult. However, higher size selectivity can be obtained when considering the minimum landing size or the 50% sexual maturity size for a given species.  相似文献
