Noctuidonema dibolia n. sp., an ectoparasite of adults of the noctuid moth Mocis latipes (Guenée) is described. The differentiating characters are a club-shaped body with a subterminal vulva in the female, spicules with a reduced matrix and sheath and closely apposed dorsal and ventral arms in the male, very long stylet and conus, moderately prominent stylet knobs, a bluntly rounded head, and a large renette cell in both sexes. Lateral fields, rectum, anus, bursa, and gubernaculum are absent. Noctuidonema dibolia differs from the other species of the subfamily Noctuidonematinae in the size and robustness of the body, the length of the stylet and conus, the length of the tail, and the shape of the spicules.  相似文献

Detailed morphological comparisons with light and scanning electron microscopy were made of white females and cysts of several isolates of Globodera tabacum sspp. tabacum (GTT), virginiae (GTV), and solanacearum (GTS). Observations focused on body shape, anterior region including head shape, lip pattern, stylet morphology, and the terminal area in females; and body shape and terminal area of cysts. The most useful characters to separate the three subspecies were forms of the female body, cyst, stylet knobs, tail region, perineal tubercles, anal-fenestral ridge patterns, and the distinctiveness of the anus. GTT is characterized by having round females and cysts, sharply back sloped stylet knobs, clumped perineal tubercles in the vulval region, tight parallel ridges in the cyst anal-fenestral region, and a uniformly conoid tail region. GTV is characterized by its ovoid to ellipsoid female and cyst shape, the "Dutch shoe" shape of the dorsal stylet knob, the more dispersed perineal tubercles, a maze-like pattern of ridges in the anal-fenestral region, and an indistinct anus. GTS is characterized by its ovoid to ellipsoid female and cyst shape, moderately backward sloped stylet knobs, more widely separated ridges, a distinct anus, and a usually crescent shaped tail region. Much variability in shape and patterns is visible among all the isolates of the different subspecies. Tubercles in the neck, as well as bullae, are reported, and their taxonomic value is discussed.  相似文献

Summary A comprehensive and comparative study of the external statolith morphology of the family Mysidae is presented. The study covers 48 species from major systematic groups occupying a large number of habitats in different biogeographical zones of the globe. Statoliths generally show high morphological diversity. The traditional classification scheme of subtaxa and the correlation of statolith characters with segmentation patterns of body appendages suggest that the organic composition and the nearly spherical structure of the statoliths of Boreomysinae and Rhopalophthalminae are plesiomorphic compared with the more complex mineralized statoliths found in all other subfamilies. During ontogenetic development the number of sensorial setae and associated pores and pore groups on the statolith increase with body size and statolith diameter. Although patterns of caudal pores are highly specific for some genera, the high intraspecific variance of pore numbers strongly reduces the diagnostic value of this feature in most species. Statolith characters can be successfully used for identification of subfamilies, tribes, and especially genera. For future palaeontological applications a proper diagnosis of fossil mysid statoliths is essential. Therefore, we provide a key to subfamilies and tribes based exclusively on statolith characters.  相似文献

A key based on cyst and juvenile characters is given for identification of 12 valid Heterodera species in the H. avenae group. A compendium providing the most important diagnostic characters for use in identification of species is included as a supplement to the key. Cyst characters are most useful for separating species; these include shape, color, cyst wall pattern, fenestration, vulval slit length, and the posterior cone including presence or absence of bullae and underbridge. Also useful are those of second-stage juvenile characteristics including aspects of the stylet knobs, tail hyaline tail terminus, and lateral field. Photomicrographs of diagnostically important morphological features complement the compendium.  相似文献

Head shape and stylet morphology of second-stage juveniles of one population each of M. incognita, M. javanica, M. arenaria, and M. hapla were compared by light microscopy. Excised stylets of each species were also compared by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Differences in head morphology were observed only between M. hapla and the other three species. In SEM, differences in stylet size, shape, and relative distance of the dorsal esophageal gland orifice to the base of the stylet were evident. Differences in stylet morphology between M. incognita and M. javanica could not he detected by light microscopy, but M. arenaria and M. hapla could be distinguished from each other and from the other two species. Head shape and styler morphology of second-stage juveniles are considered useful taxonomic characters.  相似文献

Meloidogyne trifoliophila n. sp. is described from white clover collected at Ames Plantation, Fayette County, Tennessee. The perineal pattern is rounded, with long, smooth striae and rounded arch, and without distinct lateral lines or perivulval striae. The female stylet is 12.6-15.5 μm long, the excretory pore is level with or up to one stylet length posterior to the stylet knobs, and the vulva is subterminal. The posterior terminus is weakly protuberant. The male lateral field is composed of approximately eight repeatedly broken or forked incisures. The male stylet is 17.0-18.9 μm long, the stylet knobs are rounded and sloping, gradually merging with the shaft, and the head region consists of one large annule. Second-stage juveniles are 357-400 μm long, with a stylet length of 11.9-13.6 μm and one head annule. The tail tapers to a slender tip. This new species is similar to M. graminicola and M. triticoryzae but differs from them in perineal pattern and lateral field morphology, and numerous morphometric characters.  相似文献

Sphaeronema sasseri n. sp. is described from Fraser fir and red spruce on Mount Mitchell in North Carolina. Females are distinguished from other species in the genus by body shape, occurrence of body annulations, stylet morphology, head shape, and by several morphometric characters. The nematodes occur in colonies surrounding the bases of lateral and feeder roots, and the infected tissues show a general breakdown of the cortex and bark. The roots appear to be severely damaged by high populations of nematodes. This parasite may be important in the etiology of the slow decline of spruce and fir that has occurred in recent years in the southern Appalachian Mountains.

Ultrastructure of the Statocyst of Ototyphlonemertes pallida (Keferstein, 1862) (Nemertini)
Summary Ototyphlonemertes pallida (Keferstein, 1862) has two statocysts, which are situated just behind the dorsal ganglions on the elongations of the ventral ganglions. Each statocyst consists of one statolith chamber cell, some nerve cells and a number of covering cells and is surrounded by a thick basement membrane. Usually the statolith chamber cell encloses three statolith chambers, which are intercommunicated and surrounded by a double membrane. Each chamber contains a single mobile statolith. Cilia and ciliary structures are lacking. Within the dorsal part of the statocyst some very ramified nerve cells are situated, which form a nerve fibre. In the vicinity of the statolith chamber cell the nerve cells split up into synaptical plates with electric synapses; there are one or several synaptical plates at the level of each chamber. The statolith chamber cell is surrounded by numerous covering cells, which are connected by desmosomes and additionally linked together at the outside in the ventral part of the statocyst. With regard to their structure the covering cells differ greatly from the other cell types, and they do not participate in impulse perception and impulse conduction. There do not exist any closer morphological relations to the statocysts lacking cilia in Coelenterates, Turbellaria, Holothuria, Xenoturbella and Tunicata. The statocyst of O. pallida represents an indigenous structure within the Nemerteans.

A morphological and morphometric comparison using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy was made of six populations of Meloidogyne javanica belonging to three host races (infective on pepper, peanut, or noninfective on both). The variability of certain morphological characters was studied within these populations, and the reliability of these taxonomic traits was evaluated for usefulness in species identification. The most useful diagnostic characters of M. javanica were head and stylet morphology of males and stylet morphology and perineal patterns of females. Males have an offset head region, usually lacking annulations, and a distinct, narrow head cap with slightly raised labial disc. The stylet has a cone markedly wider than the shaft at the junction and large, transversely ovoid knobs that are offset from the shaft. Females have a robust stylet with a dorsally curved cone and large, transversely ovoid knobs. Perineal patterns are oval to squarish in shape, usually with coarse, broken striae and with conspicuous lateral lines. The host races could not be differentiated on a morphological basis.  相似文献

An identification key to 111 species of Tylenchorhynchus is given. Tylenchorhynchus is defined as containing only those species with four incisures in the lateral field. A compendium providing the most important diagnostic characters for use in identification of species is included as a supplement to the key. Some species in a related but unnecessary genus were placed in the genus Tylenchorhynchus, based on morphological structures and logical groupings of the species. Bitylenchus iphilus is transferred to Tylenchorhynchus. The diagnosis of Tylenchorhynchus is emended, and a list of all the valid species of the genus is given. The characters most useful for separating species are the stylet length, shape of lip region, number of lip annules, shape of tail and tail terminus, number of tail annules, and position of vulva (V%). As defined in the paper, the genus currently is composed of 111 valid species.  相似文献

Useful diagnostic characters in the nematode genus A xonchium include: lip shape, styler length, shape of the esophageal constriction, presence or absence of spiral musculature in the esophageal sheath, proportion of the esophageal length occupied by the esophageal expansion, length and shape of cardia, shape of the vulva and vaginal cuticularization, development of the anterior gonad, shape of the posterior uterus, subcuticle thickness at mid-body, tail shape, number and arrangement of supplements and caudal pores, and body measurements. A. thornei n. sp. is separated from A. choristum by its thinner subcuticle at mid-body, number of supplements, and shorter spicules, from A. solitare by presence of males, and from both species by the female tail shape and shorter stylet. A. saccatum is synonymized with A. gossypii and A. nitidum is synonymized with A. bulbosum. A. leptocephalum, A. Iongicollis, A. magnicollis, and A. tenuicollis are made species inquirendae. A key to 25 species of Axonchium is given.  相似文献

Abstract

Two new species of eutardigrade, Itaquascon unguiculum and Itaquascon cambe‐warrense, are described from Australia. Itaquascon unguiculum differs from the other species of the genus by having small claws with respect to the body size, and in other quantitative characters. Itaquascon cambewarrense is characterised by stylet furcae which are triangular in shape, with apices thickened but not prolonged to form postero‐lateral processes.  相似文献

Temnocephala brevicornis Monticelli, 1889 is the only species of the genus Temnocephala Blanchard, 1849 reported from chelonians to date. During a survey of the species of Temnocephala extant in southern Uruguay, two new species were found on the chelonian Hydromedusa tectifera Cope, 1869. They are described here as Temnocephala pereirai n. sp. and Temnocephala cuocoloi n. sp. Both resemble T. brevicornis, but differ in the morphometry of the penial stylet, and in qualitative details of the reproductive complex. Temnocephala pereirai n. sp. differs from T. brevicornis by having a massive, cylindrical sphincter in the distal portion of the vagina, and a seminal vesicle that opens into the subpolar to equatorial portion of the contractile vesicle. In addition, the penial stylet in Temnocephala pereirai n. sp. is large in relation to body size, straight and more slender, having the distal portion of its shaft slightly sinuous, and a smaller introvert equipped with about 16 distal crowns of smaller spines. Temnocephala cuocoloi n. sp. is most similar to T. brevicornis, but differs by having a smaller, curved penial stylet that has a smaller introvert in relation to stylet size, with about 10 distal crowns of smaller spines. A key to the species of the Temnocephala from chelonians is provided. This study supports the validity of the following characters previously proposed for the taxonomy of the genus Temnocephala: the shape of the sphincters in the female reproductive system, the shape of the penial stylet, and the number, size, and position of spines in the introvert.  相似文献

The genus Hemicycliophora (Nematoda: Hemicycliophoridae) contains 132 valid species of plant‐parasitic nematodes, collectively known as ‘sheath nematodes’. Hemicycliophora spp. are characterized morphologically by a long stylet with rounded basal knobs and a cuticular sheath, present in juvenile and adult stages. Populations of 20 valid and 14 putative species of Hemicycliophora and Loofia from several countries were characterized morphologically using light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and molecularly using the D2‐D3 segments of 28S rRNA and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rRNA gene sequences. LM and SEM observations provided new details on the morphology of these species. PCR‐restriction fragment length polymorphisms (PCR‐RFLPs) of the D2‐D3 of 28S rDNA were proposed for identification of the species. Phylogenetic relationships within populations of 36 species of the genus Hemicycliophora using 102 D2‐D3 of 28S rDNA and 97 ITS rRNA gene sequences as inferred from Bayesian analysis are reconstructed and discussed. Ancestral state reconstructions of diagnostic characters (body and stylet length, number of body annuli, shape of vulval lip and tail), using maximum parsimony and Bayesian inference, revealed that none of the traits are individually reliable characters for classifying the studied sheath nematode. The Shimodaira–Hasegawa test rejected the validity of the genus Loofia. This is the most complete phylogenetic analysis of Hemicycliophora species conducted so far. © 2014 The Linnean Society of London  相似文献

Copulatory organs of eight species of the monophyletic taxon Childia were investigated in detail, using phalloidin fluorescence method and confocal microscopy. Childia species were shown to have one, two or several tubular stylets, conical to cylindrical in shape, composed of few to numerous needles. The musculature varied greatly, from the absence of seminal vesicle to extensively developed seminal vesicles with several additional types of specialized muscles. Ten copulatory organ characters were coded and mapped on the total evidence tree. The data obtained permitted to follow the evolution of the Childia stylet and to demonstrate that the structure of the stylet apparatus is largely consistent with the phylogeny of the group (CI=0.75). Possible function of different muscle specializations was discussed.  相似文献

Larvae of two nemertean species,Ototyphlonemertes (O.) martynovi Chernyshev, 1993 andOtotyphlonemertes (Norenburgia) sp., found in the neritic plankton of Peter the Great Bay, the Sea of Japan are described. The larvae of both species had two statocysts and a pair of eyes, but differed in the number of statoliths and in their tactile cirri. Changes of some traits during ontogenesis are discussed.  相似文献

Morphological comparisons with light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were made among second-stage juveniles (J2) and males of several isolates of the three subspecies of the tobacco cyst nematode complex, Globodera tabacum sspp. tabacum, virginiae, and solanacearum. Observations focused on the anterior region, (including head shape, lip pattern, and stylet morphology) and the tail region (including tail shape in J2 and spicules in males). The three subspecies could not be separated on the basis of any of these characters.  相似文献

Part of the 16s rRNA mitochondrial gene is used to reconstruct the relationships within five populations (representing three currently recognized species) of interstitial nemerteans ( Ototyphlonemertes , Hoplonemertea, Nemertea), and to assess genetic divergence between representatives of these populations. The non-helicophoran individuals form a monophyletic sister-group to the helicophoran taxon, which further resolves a previous hypothesis based on morphological characters. The small nucleotide differences between some of the populations are within levels expected for panmictic populations and fail to distinguish them genetically; without applying a phylogenic perspective, some of the populations may be allocated into paraphyletic species assemblages.  相似文献

Variability of morphological characters used to separate Pratylenchus penetrans from other species of the genus was studied in a population originating from a single gravid female. Pronounced heteromorphism was observed and characterized. About 30% of females had a crenate-tail terminus. Several shapes of stylet knobs were characterized; 50% of them were anteriorly flattened to indented. The outer margin of the cephalic framework extended into the body from one-half to two annules. The shape of the spermatheca varied from round to oval. A fifth lateral line was observed in many specimens. Environmental factors, and particularly the host plant, influenced such morphometric characters as body length, width, esophagus length, stylet length, V value, a and b'' ratios, as well as qualitative characters such as tail terminus, growth of ovary, and shape of median bulb. Nematodes reared on pea and cabbage had a higher percentage of females with a crenate-tail terminus than those from tomato, rye, beet, and alfalfa callus culture. Nematodes from peas were longer and wider; they often had gonads that extended to esophagi, but they had shorter esophagi amt stylets than those from callus culture. Populations from different geographical locations also exhibited variahility in morphological characters, as did the Cornell population. The validity of many characters used in species identification is discussed, and the possibility that other related Pratylenchus species are conspecific with P. penetrans is suggested.  相似文献

The distribution and configuration of nephridia and gonoducts are described for seven species from seven genera of the interstitial polychaete family Nerillidae. The ciliated nephridia and gonoducts were identified by tubulin staining and examined with a confocal laser scanning microscope. The following species of the seven to nine-segmented nerillids were examined: Leptonerilla prospera, Nerilla antennata (nine segments); Nerillidium mediterraneum, Trochonerilla mobilis, Gen. sp. A (eight segments); and Aristonerilla brevis, Paranerilla limicola (seven segments). Two of the examined species are hermaphroditic (N. mediterraneum and Gen. sp. A). Segmented nephridia can be found from the first to the last segment, with a total of two to five pairs. One to three pairs of segmented spermioducts are present in all species. One pair of gonoducts is found in all species, except for P. limicola, where they are absent. Nephridia vary in length from half to almost twice the length of a segment and may be curled up in loops. In A. brevis and P. limicola the nephridia are discontinuously ciliated. The distribution and configuration of spermioducts and gonoducts are also variable, although to a lesser extent. The spermioduct distribution is generally consistent within genera and therefore of systematic significance. Nephridia and gonoducts are never found together in the same segments, and the results indicate that gonoducts and nephridia have developed from the same anlagen. The distribution patterns of nephridia and gonoducts are discussed with respect to segmentation, systematics, and development.  相似文献
