In this study, several neuropeptides were identified by immunohistochemistry in neuroendocrine cells (NEC) located in the gut epithelium and nerve cell bodies of the enteric nervous system of pejerrey Odontesthes bonariensis, a species that is a promising candidate for intensive aquaculture. The neuropeptides involved in orexigenic or anorexigenic action, i.e. gastrin, cholecystokinin-8, neuropeptide Y and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), displayed a significantly higher number of immunoreactive NECs in the anterior intestine, suggesting that this region of the gut plays an important role in the peripheral control of food intake. On the other hand, leu-enkephalin and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), both associated with the modulation of the enteric immune system, showed no significant variations in the mean value of immunopositive NECs between the anterior and posterior intestine. This may indicate that their activity is required at a similar level along the entire gut. In addition, CGRP and VIP-immunoreactive neurons and nerve fibres were observed in the myenteric plexus, which might exert synergistic effects with the neuropeptides immunolocalized in NECs.  相似文献

This paper presents evidence that the size of the nuclei of parenchymal cells of the liver is correlated with the nutritional status of first-feeding pejerrey larvae, Odontesthes bonariensis (Cuvier et Valenciennes). Kariometry revealed that larvae which successfully began exogenous feeding maintained the large nuclear sizes attained during the period of endogenous feeding. In contrast, nuclei of fasted larvae shrank gradually and lowest values were attained before starvation death. The degree of shrinkage seemed to be dependent on rearing temperature; reduction in nuclear area was faster and more pronounced at higher temperatures. In addition, mean hepatocyte nuclear areas of larger as well as of triploid fish are presented. The results suggest that hepatocyte nuclear size might constitute an alternative indicator for the identification of starving condition in field larval specimens.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of diet on the fatty acids composition of cultured northern pike (Esox lucius) fillet (mean body weight, 620 g; age, 2.5 years; commercial feed) profiles when compared with wild pike caught in Lake Dga? Wielki in northern Poland (mean body weight, 570 g; age 3.5 years). Cultured pike fillets contained several times more fat (2.40%) compared with wild fish (0.19%, P < 0.01). The total relative quantity of saturated fatty acids (SFA; % of total fatty acids) and unsaturated fatty acids (USFA) in cultured and wild pike were similar. Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) content differed in wild and cultured fish. Cultured pike contained nearly two times more MUFA (30.90% compared with 15.97%; P < 0.01) but less PUFA (42.04% compared with 58.33%; P < 0.01), n‐3 PUFA (32.42% compared with 41.26%; P < 0.01), and n‐6 PUFA (6.47% compared with 15.79%; P < 0.01). The largest differences were noted with regard to docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (AA), the levels of which in cultured and wild pike were 18.93% vs 27.96% and 0.73% vs 8.60%, respectively (P < 0.01). Quality compositions of the commercial feed and the cultured pike fillets were identical.  相似文献

Elevated water temperature has been found to cause gonadal degeneration in fish, including the partial or complete loss of germinal elements, and might impair fertility and reproductive performance. Germ cell-deficient and even completely sterile pejerrey Odontesthes bonariensis have been found in two lagoons in Argentina, and exposure to warm water is one of the possible causes of these abnormalities. This experiment was conducted (a) to compare the histological characteristics of the abnormal gonads from wild pejerrey with those of animals exposed to heat in the laboratory and (b) to examine whether short-term pulses of heat similar to diurnal temperature variations in natural environments during summer can trigger gonadal cell degeneration in adult pejerrey. Wild fish with gonadal abnormalities were obtained from the San Miguel del Monte and Lacombe Lagoons (Buenos Aires Province, Argentina). Laboratory specimens were obtained by exposure of adult pejerrey to five thermal regimes (constant 24 degrees and 29 degrees C and 12-h cycles of 27 degrees -31 degrees, 28 degrees -30 degrees, and 28 degrees -31 degrees C) for up to 16 wk. Germ cell-deficient specimens for histological comparison with wild animals were also obtained by exposing larvae and juveniles for 8-12 wk to 29 degrees C and rearing until they became adults. The histological characteristics of the abnormal gonads of wild pejerrey closely resembled those of fish partially or completely sterilized by high water temperature in the laboratory. The results indicate that fluctuating (high) thermal regimes triggered germ cell disappearance in a manner comparable to a constant temperature of 29 degrees C. These results support the notion that high temperature during unusually warm summers might trigger germ cell degeneration and could be the cause of the observed gonadal abnormalities in wild pejerrey.  相似文献

Fatty acid (FA) compositions were determined for the invader amphipod Dikerogammarus villosus collected from July to September 2002, in an overheated, high-conductivity dammed reservoir in north-eastern France. Predominant fatty acids were the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA): eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), linoleic acid (LA), arachidonic acid (ARA), linolenic acid (LNA) together with the monounsaturated fatty acid 18:1omega9 and the saturated fatty acid 16:0. FA markers indicated that available food was constituted of incompletely degraded phytodetritus and terrestrial inputs, as well as animal remains. PUFA contents depended on the diet and the capacity of animals to desaturate and elongate LNA and LA in long chain PUFA as EPA and ARA respectively. Based on their FA compositions, we showed that gammarids represent naturally-occurring freshwater sources of essential PUFA, and could play a fundamental role in pelagic-benthic coupling and energy recycling in the ecosystem. The complexity of the feeding strategies of D. villosus--detritivorous, omnivorous, carnivorous--makes this species efficient at exploiting different components of the available food and may be a key factor in its high invasive success.  相似文献

A phylogenetic analysis of the majority of sparid genera and representatives of the sparoid families Centracanthidae, Lethrinidae and Nemipteridae is presented using 87 predominately osteological characters. The Sparidae constitute a monophyletic grouping, with the inclusion of the centracanthid Spicara smaris , which nests deep within the ingroup. The phylogeny was then used to investigate agreement with the most recent molecular study, taxonomic stability of subfamilial classification and the evolution of feeding strategies. Results show that the incongruence between morphological and molecular data appears largely to be an artifact of errors in rooting. However, there appears to be real and substantial conflict between the molecular tree and the morphological data, which is not attributable to the different positions of the least congruent taxa. The data support the molecular hypothesis that none of the subfamilial classification, based on dentition and trophic specialization, is monophyletic, and should be rejected pending further taxonomic revision. The phylogeny supports multiple independent origins of trophic types and it is suggested that the evolutionary plasticity of the oral teeth of sparids has been fundamental to the adaptive radiation of this family compared to their closest allies. ©2002 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society , 2002, 76 , 269–301.  相似文献

Larvae of the chironomid Stictochironomus pictulus were collected from Lake Biwa, central Japan. Both the fatty acid composition of the total lipid fraction and the carbon stable isotope ratios of whole larvae were determined. Larvae showed δ13C values of −57.4‰ to −62.4‰, similar to the values of methane recorded from the lake sediments. A high level of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs; approximately 50% of total fatty acids) and an extremely low level of n-3 series polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the total lipids of S. pictulus indicated a predominantly bacterial nutrition for this species. Moreover, chironomid tissues contained large amounts of the Type I methanotroph group-specific fatty acid, 16:1(n-8) (approximately 8% of total fatty acids). This is the first time such a fatty acid biomarker has been described from freshwater invertebrates. The data suggest that S. pictulus larvae directly feed upon methanotrophic bacteria.  相似文献

Representative strains of Gardnerella vaginalis were degraded using both an alkaline and an acid methanolysis and the fatty acid methyl esters released examined by thin-layer and gas chromatography. The profiles obtained were both qualitatively and quantitatively similar and were comprised of straight chain saturated and unsaturated non-hydroxylated fatty acids with hexadecanoic acid (16:0) and octadecenoic acid (18:1) the major components. All of the strains contained very characteristic polar lipid patterns consisting of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, five partially identified glycolipids and an uncharacterised phospholipid. Analyses of wall amino acid preparations using gas chromatography showed that Gardnerella vaginalis strains contain major amounts of alanine, glycine, glutamic acid and lysine. The chemical data support the integrity of the genus Gardnerella.  相似文献

The lipid compositions of Rothia dentocariosa was investigated. All of the strains tested possessed closely related lipid profiles consisting of predominantly straight-chain saturated and methyl branched long-chain fatty acids, unsaturated menaquinones with seven isoprene units and a polar lipid composition comprising diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and a diglycosyldiacylglycerol. The results of the present study indicate Rothia dentocariosa is a good and distinct taxon. The lipid data however does not support the classification of Rothia dentocariosa in the family Actinomycetaceae.  相似文献

Synopsis In this study we investigate the effect of food availability (zooplankton biomass) on the growth of Odontesthes bonariensis (Atherinidae) larvae. The larvae were stocked in four 45 m2 outdoor tanks at relatively high densities (100 and 200 larvae m–2). Because of the high stocking densities, the zooplankton biomass was depleted in all tanks. However, the patterns of food limitation, and particularly periods of severe food shortage, differed in tanks stocked at different densities. We could therefore, observe the effect of food limitation in larvae that differed in weight and age. The effects of variables suspected to influence O. bonariensis growth rates (age and weight of larvae, available zooplankton biomass, mean individual weight of available preys, total ingested prey weight, and mean weight of ingested preys) were investigated using standard multiple regression methods, and a model assuming: (1) an allometric relationship between maximum growth rates and weight of larvae, and (2) an inverse relationship between growth depression and the available zooplankton biomass. Both methods were consistent in showing that only the weight of larvae, and the availability of zooplankton prey had significant effects on the growth of O. bonariensis. The model's results additionally suggest that, if the observed growth rates are scaled by the maximum growth rate corresponding to the larva weight, the effect of zooplankton biomass is largely independent of age and weight of larvae.  相似文献

Seasonal changes in the fatty acid composition of the total lipid extracted from the whole body of Cydia pomonella L. larvae were determined by gas chromatography. The six most abundant fatty acids in both non-diapause and diapause larvae of codling moth were oleic (35%-39%), palmitic (23%-33%), linoleic (16%-30%), palmitoleic (5%-10%), stearic (1.5%-3.0%) and linolenic acids (1.0%-2.5%). This represents a typical complement of Lepidopteran fatty acids. The fatty acid composition of total lipid of C. pomonella larvae was related to diapause. In similarity to most other reports, the proportion of unsaturated fatty acids increased in diapause initiation state. The total lipid of diapause larvae contained more linoleic acid (25.8% vs. 16.1%) and less palmitic acid (24.7% vs. 33.4%), than that of non-diapause larvae. The weight percentage of linoleic acid (C 18:2) increased from 16% to 26% from early-August through early-September during transition to diapause, while palmitic acid (C16:0) decreased from 33% to 25% at the same time. These changes resulted in an increase in the ratio of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids (UFA/SFA) from 1.72 in non-diapause larvae to 2.63 in diapause larvae.  相似文献

This study evaluated the effects of different temperatures on the histological process of sex differentiation in the pejerrey Odontesthes bonariensis, a fish with marked temperature-dependent sex determination (TSD), at feminizing, neutral, and masculinizing temperatures. Fish reared at three temperatures (17 degrees C, 24 degrees C, and 29 degrees C) from hatching were sampled weekly until 11 weeks and their gonads were examined by histology. The percentages of females at 17 degrees C, 24 degrees C, and 29 degrees C were 100%, 73%, and 0%, respectively. Sex differentiation occurred earlier and at a smaller body size at higher temperatures in both sexes. The first signs of ovarian differentiation were observed at 4 and 7 weeks at 24 degrees C and 17 degrees C, respectively, and those of testicular differentiation at 4 and 7 weeks at 29 degrees C and 24 degrees C, respectively. Body or gonadal growth rates before sex differentiation were not proportional to temperature and showed no sexual dimorphism at 24 degrees C, where both sexes were present. Thus, differential growth rate is probably not a factor in TSD or histological sex differentiation in pejerrey. Blood vessels were formed before sex differentiation in both sexes and at all temperatures, and may be important for sex differentiation. No signs of intersexuality were found in any of the groups, and this characterizes pejerrey as the differentiated type of gonochorist even at feminizing and masculinizing temperatures. Ovaries were formed by the same histological processes at feminizing (17 degrees C) and neutral (24 degrees C) temperatures and without any pathological features such as germ cell degeneration. The process of testicular formation was generally similar at 24 degrees C and 29 degrees C, but some fish at 29 degrees C had widespread germ cell degeneration before sex differentiation. This suggests that pathological processes leading to germ cell death, such as heat-induced dysfunction of the supporting somatic cells, could be involved in masculinization of the genetic females at high temperatures.  相似文献
