Sixteen patients with an early dense hemiplegia due to cerebrovascular accidents were shown to have a greater degree of hypoxia than 16 matched control patients. The patients with hemiplegia had a reflex compensatory fall in arterial carbon dioxide tensions (PaCO2) with possible reduction in cerebral blood flow. Oxygen treatment led to an increase in PaCO2 in the patients with hemiplegia, but the increase in oxygen tensions in these patients was significantly less than that in the control group, suggesting increased pulmonary shunting as the cause for the hypoxia. Oxygen treatment may improve cerebral blood flow and oxygenation and have a useful role in the early management of patients with a dense hemiplegia. 相似文献

The enigmatic Orestovia from the Lower Devonian of Siberia has a vascular cylinder of spiral and annular tracheids, external and internal cuticles in the cortex, and stomata. Abundant spores are occasionally preserved between the cortex cuticles. The 'reticulate structures' are thyriothecia of a hemisphaeriacean fungus. Spores of several types are found sticking to the cuticle. Orestovia can be conceived as a transitional form between the alga-like Protosalvinia and the sporangiate vascular plants. This review discusses the pathophysiology, evaluation, and treatment of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and functional disorders that can result as late effects of radiation treatment.Although radiation therapy is often an effective method of killing cancer cells, it can also damage nearby blood vessels that nourish the skin, ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves, bones and lungs. This can result in a progressive condition called radiation fibrosis syndrome (RFS). It is generally a late complication of radiotherapy which may manifest clinically years after treatment. Radiation-induced damage can include “myelo-radiculo-plexo-neuro-myopathy,” causing muscle weakness and dysfunction and contributing to neuromuscular injury.RFS is a serious and lifelong disorder which, nevertheless, may often be decremented when identified and rehabilitated early enough. This medical treatment should be a complex procedure consisting of education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, orthotics as well as medications. 相似文献

We previously demonstrated that progenitors of both endothelium and smooth muscle cells in the aortic wall originated from the somite in the trunk of the embryo. However whether the contribution to vascular Smooth Muscle Cells (vSMC) is restricted to the aorta or encompasses other vessels of the trunk is not known. Moreover, the somitic compartment that gives rise to vSMC is yet to be defined. Quail-chick orthotopic transplantations of either the segmental plate or the dorsal or ventral halves from single somites demonstrate that 1° vSMC of the body wall including those of the limbs originate from the somite. 2° Like vSMC, aortic pericytes originate from the somite. 3° The sclerotome is the somite compartment that gives rise to vSMC and pericytes. PAX1 and FOXC2, two molecular markers of the sclerotomal compartment, are expressed by vSMC and pericytes during the earliest phases of vascular wall formation. Later on, PDGFR-β and MYOCARDIN are also expressed by these cells. In contrast, the dermomyotome gives rise to endothelium but never to cells in the vascular wall. Taken together, out data point out to the critical role of the somite in vessel formation and demonstrate that vSMC and endothelial cells originate from two independent somitic compartments. 相似文献
