The present study examined the factors contributing to performance of a backward overhead medicine ball throw (B-MBT) across 2 types of athletes. Twenty male volleyball players (jump athletes) and 20 wrestlers (nonjump athletes) were evaluated on 4 measures of power, including B-MBT, chest medicine ball throw (C-MBT), countermovement vertical jump (CMJ), and power index (PI). The athletes also completed 3 measures of strength: a 1-repetition-maximum (1RM) bench press (BP), a 1RM leg press (LP), and combined BP + LP strength. Jump athletes demonstrated greater absolute scores for CMJ, C-MBT, and B-MBT (p < 0.05), whereas nonjump athletes demonstrated greater strength scores for BP and for BP + LP (p < 0.05). When performances were examined on a relative basis, jump athletes achieved superior scores for C-MBT (p < 0.05), whereas nonjump athletes had greater scores for BP, LP, and BP + LP (p < 0.05). For both groups, B-MBT had strong correlations with PI (r = 0.817 [jump] and 0.917 [nonjump]), whereas for C-MBT, only nonjump athletes demonstrated a strong correlation (r = 0.842). When expressed in relative terms, B-MBT was strongly correlated with C-MBT (r = 0.762 [jump] and 0.835 [nonjump]) and CMJ (r = 0.899 [jump] and 0.945 [nonjump]). Only nonjump athletes demonstrated strong correlations with strength for absolute LP (r = 0.801) and BP + LP (r = 0.810) strength. The interaction of upper- and lower-body strength and power in the performance of a B-MBT appears complex, with the contributing factors differing for athletes with divergent skill sets and performance demands.  相似文献

In this study we investigated resting left ventricular structure and function in elite female weight-lifters. Fifteen National Squad members [mean age (SD) 25 (6) years] were compared to a recreationally active control group [n = 46, 23 (3) years]. Subjects were matched for body mass, body surface area and fat free mass, but the controls were slightly taller (P<0.01). Athletes and controls demonstrated similar resting heart rates and blood pressures. Septal wall (ST), posterior wall (PWT) and left ventricular internal dimension in diastole and systole (LVIDd and LVIDs, respectively) were measured from M-mode echocardiograms. Calculations were made for left ventricular mass (LVM), mass-volume ratio (m:V), wall-thickness-cavity dimension ratio (h:R) and systolic function. Left ventricular filling velocities were determined via Doppler echocardiography. ST [9.0 (1.1) v.s. 7.7 (1.0) mm] and PWT [8.7 (1.4) v.s. 7.5 (1.3) mm] were greater, whereas LVIDd [46.2 (2.8) v.s. 48.4 (3.4) mm] was smaller in the weight-lifters (P<0.05). After allometrically adjusting for differences in height, the weight-lifters had a greater ST, PWT and LVM (P<0.05) and similar LVIDd. Both m:V and h:R were increased in the weightlifters (P<0.05). All functional data were within normal limits and no group differences were observed. The female weight-lifters demonstrated a concentric left ventricular enlargement that was not detrimental to left ventricular performance at rest.  相似文献

To assess the effects of inordinate physical inactivity on the distensibility of the aorta we measured aortic pulse wave velocity (APWV) and estimated physical activity index (PAI) by a 7-day total activity recall in visually impaired subjects. A group of 12 blind students (blind group) and 28 sighted male students, including 14 runners (runner group) and 14 sedentary subjects (sedentary group), participated in this study. There were no significant differences in body height, body mass, or blood pressure among the three groups. The PAI of the blind group [310 (SD 330) kcal x week(-1)] was significantly lower than that of the runner group [6300 (SD 1920) kcal week(-1), P < 0.0001] and the sedentary group [810 (SD 780) kcal x week(-1); P < 0.05]. The PAI of the runner group (P < 0.0001) was significantly higher than that of the sedentary group. The APWV and APWV index (standardized APWV for diastolic blood pressure: APWVI) of the runner group [5.22 (SD 0.42) m x s(-1) and 5.54 (SD 0.57) m x s(-1) P < 0.01, respectively] were significantly lower than those of the sedentary group [5.88 (SD 0.51) m x s(-1) and 6.16 (SD 0.48) m x s(-1)]. The APWV and APWVI of the blind group [5.29 (SD 0.49) m x s(-1) and 5.40 (SD 0.60) m x s(-1) P < 0.01, respectively] were significantly lower than those of the sedentary group, but there was no significant difference in the values of the APWV and APWVI between the blind and runner groups. These results would suggest that increased physical activity provides subjects with a distensible aorta, as does the inordinately decreased physical activity in the blind.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 (Yo-Yo IR1) ability to discriminate between elite, subelite junior basketball players, and a group of nonathletic healthy male athletes at 3 different age groups (U-14 to U-17). In a cross-sectional design, 119 age-matched participants spread over 3 groups, elite (n = 46), subelite (n = 42) junior basketball players, and nonathletic healthy male athletes (n = 31), were evaluated over a 5-week period. The participants undertook 2 familiarization trials of the Yo-Yo test performance and 3 test sessions on an indoor basketball court. When controlling for the effect of the participants' body mass, the results showed that elite athletes had a significantly higher Yo-Yo performance compared with the subelite athletes (1,271 ± 385 vs. 861 ± 428 m; p < 0.0017; effect size [ES] 1.0 ± 0.35) and the nonathletic group (1,271 ± 385 vs. 738 ± 345 m; p < 0.0017; ES 1.45 ± 0.38). No statistical differences (p > 0.0017; ES from 0.02 to 0.39) were noted between participants' performance levels across age groups. Typical between-performance levels and -age groups differences in the Yo-Yo IR1 were observed. However, when controlling for the effect of the participants' body mass, this study demonstrates that the Yo-Yo test is accurate only to discriminate elite junior basketball players but cannot be used to differentiate the basketball-specific aerobic performance for age.  相似文献

High-fat diets induce weight gain and fatty liver in wild-type mice. Schistosomiasis mansoni infection also promotes hepatic injury. This study was designed to quantify hepatic alterations in schistosomiasis mansoni-infected mice fed a high fat-rich chow compared to mice fed a standard rodent chow, using stereology. Female SW mice fed each either high-fat diet (29% lipids) or standard chow (12% lipids) over 8 months, and then were infected with Schistosoma mansoni cercariae. Four experimental groups were studied: infected mice fed a high-fat diet (IHFC) or standard chow (ISC), uninfected mice fed a high-fat diet (HFC) or standard chow (SC). Mice were sacrificed during early infection (9 weeks from exposure). The following hepatic biometry and the stereology parameters were determined: volume density (hepatocytes [h], sinusoids [s], steatosis [st] and hepatic fibrosis [hf]); numerical density (hepatocyte nuclei - Nv[h]); absolute number of total hepatocyte N[h], normal hepatocyte N[nh], and binucleated hepatocyte N[bh], percentage of normal hepatocyte P[nh] and binucleated hepatocyte P[bh]. IHFC and HFC groups exhibited TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, and body mass significantly greater (p < 0.05) than control group. No significant differences were found regards liver volume (p = 0.07). Significant differences were observed regards P[nh] (p = 0.0045), P[bh] (p = 0.0045), Nv[h] (p = 0.0006), N[h] (p = 0.0125), N[bh] (p = 0.0164) and N[nh] (p = 0.0078). IHFC mice group presented 29% of binucleated hepatocytes compared to HFC group (19%), ISC group (17%) and SC (6%). Volume density was significantly different between groups: Vv[h] (p = 0.0052), Vv[s] (p = 0.0025), Vv[st] (p = 0.0004), and Vv[hf] (p = 0.0007). In conclusion, schistosomiasis mansoni infection with concurrent high-fat diet promotes intensive quantitative changes in hepatic structure, contributing to an increasing on hepatic regeneration.  相似文献

Interleukin-6, synthesized by osteoblasts in response to PTH, stimulates osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption in vitro, and it has been implicated in the pathogenesis of bone loss in several clinical situations. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether serum levels of interleukin-6 were increased in patients with renal osteodystrophy, and to investigate the possible relationships between serum interleukin-6 and PTH levels on one hand, and serum interleukin-6 and bone remodeling markers on the other. Serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), intact PTH, osteocalcin, bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP) and carboxyterminal telopeptide of Type 1 collagen (ICTP) were measured in 86 uremic patients. IL-6 (median [range] 16.5 [1.0-430] pg/ml), PTH (279.8 [11-2004] pg/ml), osteocalcin (143.8 [8-921] ng/ml), BAP (20.9 [6-169] U/I) and ICTP (38.8 [1.5-181.5] microg/l) were higher than normal. IL-6 levels correlated with PTH (r= 0.22, p = 0.04) and with ICTP (r = 0.31, p = 0.004). A stronger correlation was found between PTH and circulating bone remodeling markers (r = 0.66 for osteocalcin, r = 0.56 for BAP, and r = 0.39 for ICTP). The correlation between PTH and IL-6 was stronger in those patients (n = 15) with severe secondary hyperparathyroidism (r= 0,71, p = 0.003). On the other hand, in the group of patients (n = 41) with PTH lower than 250 pg/ml, there was no correlation between IL-6 and PTH, while IL-6 correlated with ICTP (r = 0.44, p = 0.006). Serum IL-6 correlates with ICTP which suggests that it may mediate bone resorption in renal osteodystrophy.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the immediate influence of eccentric muscle action on vertical jump performance in athletes performing sports with a high demand of explosive force development. In this randomized, controlled crossover trial, 13 Swiss elite athletes (national team members in ski jump, ski alpine, snowboard freestyle and alpine, ski freestyle, and gymnastics) with a mean age of 22 years (range 20-28) were randomized into 2 groups. After a semistandardized warm-up, group 1 did 5 jumps from a height of 60 cm, landing with active stabilization in 90 degrees knee flexion. One minute after these modified drop jumps, they performed 3 single squat jumps (SJ) and 3 single countermovement jumps (CMJ) on a force platform. The athletes repeated the procedure after 1 hour without the modified drop jumps. In a crossover manner, group 2 did the first warm-up without and the second warm-up with the modified drop jumps. Differences of the performance (jump height and maximal power) between the different warm-ups were the main outcomes. The mean absolute power and absolute height (without drop jumps) were CMJ 54.9 W.kg(-1) (SD = 4.1), SJ 55.0 W.kg(-1) (SD = 5.1), CMJ 44.1 cm (SD = 4.1), and SJ 40.8 cm (SD = 4.1). A consistent tendency for improvement with added drop jumps to the warm-up routine was observed compared with warm-up without drop jumps: maximal power CMJ +1.02 W.kg(-1) (95% confidence interval [CI] = +0.03 to +2.38), p = 0.045; maximal power SJ +0.8 W.kg(-1) (95% CI = -0.34 to +2.02), p = 0.148; jump height CMJ +0.48 cm (95% CI = -0.26 to +1.2), p = 0.182; SJ +0.73 cm (95% CI = -0.36 to +1.18), p = 0.169. Athletes could add modified drop jumps to the warm-up before competitions to improve explosive force development.  相似文献

Although many studies have been focused on soccer athletes, no comprehensive studies have been conducted on adolescent soccer athletes in the United States. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to quantify the physiological and sport-specific skill characteristics of Olympic Developmental Program (ODP) soccer athletes by age group and game experience. Following written, informed consent, 59 male athletes (age = 14.6 +/- 2.0 years; wt = 60.5 +/- 1.4 kg; ht = 172.4 +/- 1.2 cm) completed a battery of tests to determine aerobic power (VO(2)max), heart rate (HR(max)), ventilation (VE(max)), respiratory exchange ratio (RER), anaerobic threshold (AT), blood pressure (BP(rest/max)), anaerobic power/capacity [peak power (PP), mean power (MP), total work output (TWO), fatigue index (FI)], leg power [vertical squat jump (VJS), countermovement jump (VJC)], body composition [percent body fat (%BF), lean body mass (LBM)], joint range of motion (trunk, back, hip, knee, and ankle), and agility/sport-specific skills (T-test, line drill test, juggling test, Johnson wall volley, and modified-Zelenka circuit). Factor analyses with subsequent multivariate analyses of variance (MANOVAs) indicated significant main effects across age (p = 0.0001) but not by game experience (p = 0.82). Older athletes exhibited greater height, weight, LBM, VE(max), Time(max), PP, TWO, and VSJ values than younger athletes. Although not significant, there were differences with increasing age in the agility tests (T-test, wall volley, and juggling test). In conclusion, improvements in anaerobic power, agility, and sport-specific skill should be addressed at this developmental level of competition.  相似文献

Carnitine has a potential effect on exercise capacity due to its role in the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for beta-oxidation, the export of acyl-coenzyme A compounds from mitochondria and the activation of branched-chain amino acid oxidation in the muscle. We studied the effect of carnitine supplementation on palmitate oxidation, maximal exercise capacity and nitrogen balance in rats. Daily carnitine supplementation (500 mg.kg-1 body mass for 6 weeks) was given to 30 rats, 15 of which were on an otherwise carnitine-free diet (group I) and 15 pair-fed with a conventional pellet diet (group II). A control group (group III, n = 6) was fed ad libitum the pellet diet. Palmitate oxidation was measured by collecting 14CO2 after an intraperitoneal injection of [1-14C]palmitate and exercise capacity by swimming to exhaustion. After carnitine supplementation carnitine concentrations in serum were supranormal [group I, total 150.8 (SD 48.5), free 78.9 (SD 18.4); group II, total 170.9 (SD 27.9), free 115.8 (SD 24.6) mumol.l-1] and liver carnitine concentrations were normal in both groups [group I, total 1.6 (SD 0.3), free 1.2 (SD 0.2); group II, total 1.3 (SD 0.3), free 0.9 (SD 0.2) mumol.g-1 dry mass]. The aim was to create a Modern Standard Arabic SCAT5 version for different Arabic dialects. This translation and cross-cultural adaptation was performed in eight stages: initial translations, reconciliation of translations and cultural adaptation, back translation, appraisal of back translations, validation of the translation, review and adjustment by reconciliation committee, pretesting in 12 football players and document finalisation. As an alternative to the problematic Months In Reverse Order Test (MIROT) in Arabic, the Serial 3s test (32 Arabic and 30 English participants), the Days of the Week Backwards test (DWBT), and the ‘Adding Serial 3s’ test were tested (30 English and 30 Arabic participants) for accuracy, difficulty and time of completion. The Arabic SCAT5 was similar and comparable to the original English version (7-point Likert scales =< 2). Testing of the pre-final version of the Arabic SCAT5 took 20.4 (SD 3.4) and 17.7 (SD 3.0) minutes respectively to complete and was found acceptable in terms of clarity, understandability, grammatical correctness and coherence. The Arabic Serial 3s test (subtraction version) was unsuitable due to high completion time, low pass rate and high difficulty perception [time = 47.2 (SD 28.0) s; accuracy = 55.2%; difficulty = 3.2 (SD 1.1)]. The Arabic DWBT was too fast and undemanding for concentration testing [time = 4.6 (SD 1.5) s; accuracy = 90%; difficulty = 1.1 (SD 0.3)]. The Adding Serial 3s tests produced similar completion times [18.4 (SD 6.8) vs. 21.1 (SD 5.3), p = 0.088], accuracy (100%) and self-rated difficulty [English = 2.0 (SD 0.7) vs. Arabic-speaking participants = 2.1 (SD 0.8), p = 0.512] and was therefore adopted to replace the MIROT. The purpose of this study was to identify whether there was a relationship between relative strength during a 1 repetition maximum (1RM) back squat and 5-, 10-, and 20-m sprint performances in both trained athletes and recreationally trained individuals. Professional rugby league players (n = 24) and recreationally trained individuals (n = 20) participated in this investigation. Twenty-meter sprint time and 1RM back squat strength, using free weights, were assessed on different days. There were no significant (p ≥ 0.05) differences between the well-trained and recreationally trained groups for 5-m sprint times. In contrast, the well-trained group's 10- and 20-m sprint times were significantly quicker (p = 0.004; p = 0.002) (1.78 + 0.06 seconds; 3.03 + 0.09 seconds) compared with the recreationally trained group (1.84 + 0.07 seconds; 3.13 + 0.11 seconds). The athletes were significantly stronger (170.63 + 21.43 kg) than the recreationally trained individuals (135.45 + 30.07 kg) (p = 0.01); however, there were no significant differences (p > 0.05) in relative strength between groups (1.78 + 0.27 kg/kg; 1.78 + 0.33 kg/kg, respectively). Significant negative correlations were found between 5-m sprint time and relative squat strength (r = -0.613, power = 0.96, p = 0.004) and between relative squat strength and 10- and 20-m sprint times in the recreationally trained group (r = -0.621, power = 0.51, p = 0.003; r = -0.604, power = 0.53, p = 0.005, respectively). These results, indicating that relative strength, are important for initial sprint acceleration in all athletes but more strongly related to sprint performance over greater distances in recreationally trained individuals.  相似文献

This study examined the acute hormonal responses to a single high power resistance exercise training session. Four weight trained men (X ± SD; age [yrs] = 24.5 ± 2.9; hgt [m] = 1.82 ± 0.05; BW [kg] = 96.9 ± 10.6; 1 RM barbell squat [kg] = 129.3 ± 17.4) participated as subjects in two randomly ordered sessions. During the lifting session, serum samples were collected pre- and 5 min post-exercise, and later analyzed for testosterone (Tes), cortisol (Cort), their ratio (Tes/Cort), and lactate (HLa). The lifting protocol was 10 × 5 speed squats at 70% of system mass (1 RM + BW) with 2 min inter-set rest intervals. Mean power and velocity were determined for each repetition using an external dynamometer. On the control day, the procedures and times (1600–1900 h) were identical except the subjects did not lift. Tes and Cort were analyzed via EIA. Mean ± SD power and velocity was 1377.1 ± 9.6 W and 0.79 ± 0.01 m s−1 respectively for all repetitions, and did not decrease over the 10 sets (p < 0.05). Although not significant, post-exercise Tes exhibited a very large effect size (nmol L−1; pre = 12.5 ± 2.9, post = 20.0 ± 3.9; Cohen’s D = 1.27). No changes were observed for either Cort or the Tes/Cort ratio. HLa significantly increased post-exercise (mmol L−1; pre = 1.00 ± 0.09, post = 4.85 ± 1.10). The exercise protocol resulted in no significant changes in Tes, Cort or the Tes/Cort ratio, although the Cohen’s D value indicates a very large effect size for the Tes response. The acute increase for Tes is in agreement with previous reports that high power activities can elicit a Tes response. High power resistance exercise protocols such as the one used in the present study produce acute increases of Tes. These results indicate that high power resistance exercise can contribute to an anabolic hormonal response with this type of training, and may partially explain the muscle hypertrophy observed in athletes who routinely employ high power resistance exercise.  相似文献

The near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) signal (deoxyhemoglobin concentration; [HHb]) reflects the dynamic balance between muscle capillary blood flow (Q(cap)) and muscle O(2) uptake (Vo(2)(m)) in the microcirculation. The purposes of the present study were to estimate the time course of Q(cap) from the kinetics of the primary component of pulmonary O(2) uptake (Vo(2)(p)) and [HHb] throughout exercise, and compare the Q(cap) kinetics with the Vo(2)(p) kinetics. Nine subjects performed moderate- (M; below lactate threshold) and heavy-intensity (H, above lactate threshold) constant-work-rate tests. Vo(2)(p) (l/min) was measured breath by breath, and [HHb] (muM) was measured by NIRS during the tests. The time course of Q(cap) was estimated from the rearrangement of the Fick equation [Q(cap) = Vo(2)(m)/(a-v)O(2), where (a-v)O(2) is arteriovenous O(2) difference] using Vo(2)(p) (primary component) and [HHb] as proxies of Vo(2)(m) and (a-v)O(2), respectively. The kinetics of [HHb] [time constant (tau) + time delay [HHb]; M = 17.8 +/- 2.3 s and H = 13.7 +/- 1.4 s] were significantly (P < 0.001) faster than the kinetics of Vo(2) [tau of primary component (tau(P)); M = 25.5 +/- 8.8 s and H = 25.6 +/- 7.2 s] and Q(cap) [mean response time (MRT); M = 25.4 +/- 9.1 s and H = 25.7 +/- 7.7 s]. However, there was no significant difference between MRT of Q(cap) and tau(P)-Vo(2) for both intensities (P = 0.99), and these parameters were significantly correlated (M and H; r = 0.99; P < 0.001). In conclusion, we have proposed a new method to noninvasively approximate Q(cap) kinetics in humans during exercise. The resulting overall Q(cap) kinetics appeared to be tightly coupled to the temporal profile of Vo(2)(m).  相似文献

We investigated, in 50 recreational male ultrarunners, the changes in body mass, selected hematological and urine parameters, and fluid intake during a 100-km ultramarathon. The athletes lost (mean and SD) 2.6 (1.8) % in body mass (p < 0.0001). Running speed was significantly and negatively related to the change in body mass (p < 0.05). Serum sodium concentration ([Na?]) and the concentration of aldosterone increased with increasing loss in body mass (p < 0.05). Urine-specific gravity increased (p < 0.0001). The change in body mass was significantly and negatively related to postrace serum [Na?] (p < 0.05). Fluid intake was significantly and positively related to both running speed (r = 0.33, p = 0.0182) and the change in body mass (r = 0.44, p = 0.0014) and significantly and negatively to both postrace serum [Na?] (r = -0.42, p = 0.0022) and the change in serum [Na?] (r = -0.38, p = 0.0072). This field study showed that recreational, male, 100-km ultramarathoners dehydrated as evidenced by the decrease in >2 % body mass and the increase in urine-specific gravity. Race performance, however, was not impaired because of the loss in body mass. In contrast, faster athletes lost more body mass compared with slower athletes while also drinking more. The concept that a loss of >2% in body mass leads to dehydration and consequently impairs endurance performance must be questioned for ultraendurance athletes competing in the field. For practical applications, a loss in body mass during a 100-km ultramarathon was associated with a faster running speed.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Aim of this work is to compare mechanical and myoelectric manifestations of fatigue during an isometric contraction at 80% of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) in a population of eight anorexic female patients (AN: 24.9+/-6.5 years, mean+/-SD) with respect to a group of seven healthy female subjects (CO: 30.0+/-6.6 years, mean+/-SD). METHODS: sEMG signals were recorded, using a linear electrode array (eight channels, 10mm apart), from vastus lateralis muscle of the dominant side. MVC, endurance time, initial value and rate of change of the EMG variables [conduction velocity (CV), mean power frequency (MNF), average rectified value (ARV)] were studied during the fatiguing contractions. RESULTS: Absolute and relative (normalized with respect to the body weight) knee torque values and endurance times were found not statistically different between the two groups. Similarly, EMG amplitude initial values and rate of change and MNF initial values were found not significantly different between the two groups. CV initial values and CV rate of change were found greater in healthy than in pathological subjects (AN CV: 3.74+/-0.86m/s, CO CV: 4.96+/-0.64m/s, p=0.004; AN CV rate of change: 0.006+/-0.015m/s2, CO CV rate of change: -0.006+/-0.007m/s2, p=0.006, mean+/-SD). Contrary to expectations MNF rate of changes in the AN group (-0.35+/-0.16Hz/s) was found greater than in the CO group (-0.17+/-0.13Hz/s, p=0.004, Mann-Whitney U test, mean+/-SD). CONCLUSIONS: CV values and their rate of change were compatible with a predominance of type I fibres (and/or with an hypotrophy of type II fibres) and/or with a lower sub-cutaneous tissue thickness with respect to CO group, as described in the literature with this pathology. The behaviour of MNF during sustained contractions, opposite to that of CV, suggests an altered central control strategy aimed to increase mechanical force output increasing the level of synchronization of motor units. The purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of training leading to repetition failure in the performance of 2 different tests: 6 repetition maximum (6RM) bench press strength and 40-kg bench throw power in elite junior athletes. Subjects were 26 elite junior male basketball players (n = 12; age = 18.6 +/- 0.3 years; height = 202.0 +/- 11.6 cm; mass = 97.0 +/- 12.9 kg; mean +/- SD) and soccer players (n = 14; age = 17.4 +/- 0.5 years; height = 179.0 +/- 7.0 cm; mass = 75.0 +/- 7.1 kg) with a history of greater than 6 months' strength training. Subjects were initially tested twice for 6RM bench press mass and 40-kg Smith machine bench throw power output (in watts) to establish retest reliability. Subjects then undertook bench press training with 3 sessions per week for 6 weeks, using equal volume programs (24 repetitions x 80-105% 6RM in 13 minutes 20 seconds). Subjects were assigned to one of two experimental groups designed either to elicit repetition failure with 4 sets of 6 repetitions every 260 seconds (RF(4 x 6)) or allow all repetitions to be completed with 8 sets of 3 repetitions every 113 seconds (NF(8 x 3)). The RF(4 x 6) treatment elicited substantial increases in strength (7.3 +/- 2.4 kg, +9.5%, p < 0.001) and power (40.8 +/- 24.1 W, +10.6%, p < 0.001), while the NF(8 x 3) group elicited 3.6 +/- 3.0 kg (+5.0%, p < 0.005) and 25 +/- 19.0 W increases (+6.8%, p < 0.001). The improvements in the RF(4 x 6) group were greater than those in the repetition rest group for both strength (p < 0.005) and power (p < 0.05). Bench press training that leads to repetition failure induces greater strength gains than nonfailure training in the bench press exercise for elite junior team sport athletes.  相似文献

Larger trunk and pelvic motions in persons with (vs. without) lower limb amputation during activities of daily living (ADLs) adversely affect the mechanical demands on the lower back. Building on evidence that such altered motions result in larger spinal loads during level-ground walking, here we characterize trunk-pelvic motions, trunk muscle forces, and resultant spinal loads among sixteen males with unilateral, transfemoral amputation (TFA) walking at a self-selected speed both up (“upslope”; 1.06 ± 0.14 m/s) and down (“downslope”; 0.98 ± 0.20 m/s) a 10-degree ramp. Tri-planar trunk and pelvic motions were obtained (and ranges-of-motion [ROM] computed) as inputs for a non-linear finite element model of the spine to estimate global and local muscle (i.e., trunk movers and stabilizers, respectively) forces, and resultant spinal loads. Sagittal- (p = 0.001), frontal- (p = 0.004), and transverse-plane (p < 0.001) trunk ROM, and peak mediolateral shear (p = 0.011) and local muscle forces (p = 0.010) were larger (respectively 45, 35, 98, 70, and 11%) in upslope vs. downslope walking. Peak anteroposterior shear (p = 0.33), compression (p = 0.28), and global muscle (p = 0.35) forces were similar between inclinations. Compared to previous reports of persons with TFA walking on level ground, 5–60% larger anteroposterior and mediolateral shear observed here (despite ∼0.25 m/s slower walking speeds) suggest greater mechanical demands on the low back in sloped walking, particularly upslope. Continued characterization of trunk motions and spinal loads during ADLs support the notion that repeated exposures to these larger-than-normal (i.e., vs. level-ground walking in TFA and uninjured cohorts) spinal loads contribute to an increased risk for low back injury following lower limb amputation.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to examine the influence of direct supervision on muscular strength, power, and running speed during 12 weeks of resistance training in young rugby league players. Two matched groups of young (16.7 +/- 1.1 years [mean +/- SD]), talented rugby league players completed the same periodized resistance-training program in either a supervised (SUP) (N = 21) or an unsupervised (UNSUP) (N = 21) environment. Measures of 3 repetition maximum (3RM) bench press, 3RM squat, maximal chin-ups, vertical jump, 10- and 20-m sprints, and body mass were completed pretest (week 0), midtest (week 6), and posttest (week 12) training program. Results show that 12 weeks of periodized resistance training resulted in an increased body mass, 3RM bench press, 3RM squat, maximum number of chin-ups, vertical jump height, and 10- and 20-m sprint performance in both groups (p < 0.05). The SUP group completed significantly more training sessions, which were significantly correlated to strength increases for 3RM bench press and squat (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the SUP group significantly increased 3RM squat strength (at 6 and 12 weeks) and 3RM bench press strength (12 weeks) when compared to the UNSUP group (p < 0.05). Finally, the percent increase in the 3RM bench press, 3RM squat, and chin-up(max) was also significantly greater in the SUP group than in the UNSUP group (p < 0.05). These findings show that the direct supervision of resistance training in young athletes results in greater training adherence and increased strength gains than does unsupervised training.  相似文献

We investigated in 73 male ultraendurance mountain bikers, with (mean and SD) age 39.1 (8.6) years, weight 74.4 (8.3) kg, height 1.78 (0.07) m, and a body mass index of 23.3 (1.9) kg·m?2, whether variables of anthropometry, training, or prerace experience were associated with race time using bi and multivariate analysis. Our investigation was conducted at the "Swiss Bike Masters," which covers a distance of 120 km and an altitude of 5,000 m. In the bivariate analysis, body mass index (r = 0.29), circumference of upper arm (r = 0.28), sum of upper body skinfolds (r = 0.38), sum of lower body skinfolds (r = 0.25), sum of 8 skinfolds (r = 0.36), percent body fat (r = 0.41), total cycling kilometers per year (r = -0.47), yearly volume in both mountain bike (r = -0.33) and road cycling (r = -0.52), number of training units per week (r = -0.48), distance per unit in road cycling (r = -0.33), average speed during training in road cycling (r = -0.33), and personal best time in the "Swiss Bike Masters"(r = 0.67) were related to race time. In the multiple linear regression analysis, personal best time in the "Swiss Bike Masters" (p = 0.000), total yearly cycling kilometers (p = 0.004), and yearly training kilometers in road cycling (p = 0.017) were related to race time. When the personal best time was the dependent variable in a separate regression model, total yearly cycling kilometers (p = 0.002) remained the single predictor variable. We concluded that finishing a particular mountain bike ultramarathon does not seem to require a special anthropometry but rather a specific skill and experience for this selective kind of race coupled with a high training volume. For practical use, we concluded that successful athletes in a mountain bike ultramarathon, in a special environment and using sophisticated equipment, need prerace experience coupled with high training volume, rather than any special anthropometry.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of reducing core temperature in postexercise hyperthermic subjects and to assess if hand cooling (HC) improves subsequent timed distance performance. Following a detailed measurement check on the use of insulated auditory canal temperature (T(ac)), eight wheelchair (WA) athletes and seven male able-bodied (AB) athletes performed two testing sessions, comprising a 60-min exercise protocol and 10-min recovery period, followed by a performance trial (1 km and 3 km for WA and AB, respectively) at 30.8 degrees C (SD 0.2) and 60.6% (SD 0.2) relative humidity. In a counterbalanced order, HC and a no-cooling condition was administered during the 10-min recovery period before the performance trial. Nonsignificant condition x time interactions for both WA (F(15,75) = 1.5, P = 0.14) and AB (F(15,90) = 1.2, P = 0.32) confirmed that the exercise-induced changes (Delta) in T(ac) were similar before each intervention. However, the exercise-induced increase was evidently greater in AB compared with WA (2.0 vs. 1.3 degrees C change, respectively). HC produced DeltaT(ac) of -0.4 degrees C (SD 0.4) and -1.2 degrees C (SD 0.2) in comparison (WA and AB, respectively), and simple-effects analyses suggested that the reductions in T(ac) were noteworthy after 4 min of HC. HC had an impact on improving AB performances by -4.0 s (SD 11.5) (P < 0.05) and WA by -20.5 s (SD 24.2) (P > 0.05). In conclusion, extraction of heat through the hands was effective in lowering T(ac) in both groups and improving 3-km performance in the AB athletes and trends toward positive gains for the 1-km performance times of the WA group.  相似文献
