1. The photodynamic activity of bonellin, an integumentary chlorin of Bonellia viridis, is investigated. 2. 10(-6) M bonellin solutions haemolyze erythrocytes only in the presence of light. Previous illumination (tungsten lamp 2000-4000 lux for 1 hr) of the bonellin solutions does not affect the results. Under lowered oxygen tensions the bioactivity is depressed. Benzoquinone and singlet oxygen quenchers delay the photodynamic effect. 3. Bonellin (2 x 10(-6) M) destroys echinoid gamete function, depresses oxygen uptake of spermatozoa, and arrests development of echinoid and Bonellia eggs. These effects are produced only in the presence of light. 4. Copper bonellin is not photodynamically active. The role of copper may be to protect against photosensitization.  相似文献

We have studied the structural changes occurring in the eggs of the sea urchin Sphaerechinus granularis treated with bonellin, the green pigment of the sea worm Bonellia viridis, which is responsible for the masculinization of the larva of this animal. The two major targets of bonellin appear to be the cortical structures and the nuclear membrane, while the mitochondria do not appear to be affected. As a result of bonellin treatment, cleavage is prevented while nuclear divisions proceed. The possibility is discussed that the alteration of the cortical structures may interfere with the assembly of the surface microfilaments and hence with the formation of the cleavage furrows.  相似文献

Bonellin, a chlorin extracted fromBonellia viridis (Echiura), and hemaatoporphyrin exhibit a strong antibiotic and bactericidal activity on marine and terrestrial bacteria. This action is enhanced by light. Oxygen consumption and motility of bacteria are also inhibited, while no chemotactic effects are observed. The drugs induce lysis onBacillus subtilis protoplasts, but they are ineffective onMicrococcus lysodeikticus protoplasts.The results are discussed and compared with those obtained with eukariotic cells. Attention is focused on the ecological role of bonellin in the defense mechanism ofBonellia viridis.  相似文献

Trunk irrigatory and locomotory movements in the echiuran Bonellia viridis consist of peristaltic waves of constriction. Irrigation is by antero-posterior waves. Locomotion in the burrow may be produced in three different ways: (a) by antikinetic, (b) by synkinetic, and (c) by antikinetic and synkinetic waves in strict alternation. The animal can turn in the burrow and pass out of narrow holes. The animal can move by peristaltic waves also outside its burrow. The versatility of locomotory modes is related to its inhabiting ready-made burrows.  相似文献

In the echiuran worm Bonellia viridis Rolando, the vast majority of sexually undifferentiated larvae metamorphose into dwarf males that live inside the female when exposed to females, but differentiate into females when developing in the absence of females. By means of a spatially explicit, individual-based model we examine how this specific form of environmental sex determination (ESD) affects dynamics of Bonellia populations and investigate the selective advantage of ESD over the more widespread genotypic sex determination (GSD). Population dynamics of Bonellia appear rather simple and not too sensitive to parameter changes around their measured values, or to changes in distribution and sizes of inhabitable patches. Starting even from low sizes, populations soon attain equilibrium densities. Explored aspects of population dynamics indicate an advantage of ESD over GSD. Moreover, simulated invasibility experiments show that while the maternal inheritance scenario allows for fixation of GSD under some limited conditions, both the classical and proportional inheritance scenarios always lead to fixation of ESD in the population. We also show that only the ability of ESD larvae to adapt their ultimate sex both in competition for empty burrows and for mating within females gives them a competitive edge over nonadaptive response to feminising and/or masculinising signals and generally leads to fixation of ESD by small step evolution. The original hypothesis of Charnov and Bull thus needs to be refined in the sense that along with females forming an unpredictable resource for males, empty burrows are an unpredictable resource for females.  相似文献

Burrowing, iocomotory and other movements of the echiuran Ochetostoma caudex have been examined and discussed. A continuous body cavity enables the worm to undergo peristaltic waves to pump water through the burrow without causing locomotion. The animal is capable of both forward and backward locomotion in its burrow. During forward locomotion, retrograde peristaltic waves are utilized which advance the animal in a step-wise fashion. Pressure changes within the coelom during burrowing, locomotion and during irrigation movements have been measured with the use of electronic recording techniques and the results interpreted in relation to direct visual observation. The structural and functional specializations for burrowing are discussed and compared with the activities of Priapulus caudatus, Sipunculus nudus and Bonellia viridis.  相似文献

An account is given of the various movements of the proboscis of Bonellia viridis. When at rest, the proboscis is coiled up in front of the trunk. The proboscis lobes progress with a velocity of the order of 1 mm/sec by means of powerful cilia situated on the dorsal surface of the leading edge. The lobes passively drag and uncoil the stem of the proboscis which is further uncoiled by muscular contractions taking place along the uncoiled part of the stem. Proboscis retraction takes place by means of contraction of the numerous longitudinal muscle strands of the stem. The terminal lobes can attach to the substrate and pull the trunk by contraction of the proboscis stem. The proboscis often ties itself into a knot which it can untie.  相似文献

In rhe echiuran Bonellia viridis the green pigment first develops in the gastrula, before the formation of the trochal rings, and the trochophores acquire a deep green pigmentation before hatching. Eggs that were cultured under continuous illumination (2000–4000 lx) did not develop any green pigment, and although the trochophores hatched normally, they lacked pigment entirely. The unpigmented trochophores that were kept under continuous illumination developed into unpigmented males and females. The far-blue (380–400 nm) and red (620–640 nm) regions were more effective in preventing pigment development than the blue, green and yellow regions of the spectrum. Illumination of the eggs before the gastrula stage did not affect the development of pigment when these were subsequently returned to the dark. When unpigmented trochophores, that had been cultured in the light, were placed in the dark they acquired a slight pigmentation, but this was much less intense than that of trochophores that had been cultured in the dark throughout. Pigmented trochophores were more vulnerable to high light intensities than unpigmented ones.  相似文献

An account is given of the development of green pigment in the early larval stages of the echiuran worm, Bonellia viridis . The green pigment first appears in scattered epidermal cells of the gastrula, before the development of the trochal rings. It is contained in spherical vacuoles (0.5-1.0 μm in diameter). As the gastrula develops into the trochophore there is an increase in total pigment content, as well as an increase in number of pigment cells and size of pigment vacuoles. The increase in pigment cell number in the trochophore results from the proliferation of the pigment cells of the gastrula. The pigment content increases rapidly before the trochophores hatch but shows little relative increase after hatching whilst the trochophores remain undifferentiated. We suggest that the pigment may have a protective role in the free-living trochophore for camouflage or chemical defence. In trochophores that undergo male differentiation the pigmentation is lost. Since the males do not lead a free-living existence but live as commensals inside the uterus of the female camouflage or chemical defence would be unnecessary. In trochophores undergoing female differentiation there is an increase in pigment content of the preoral lobe which develops into the proboscis. Following the enlargement of the coelom, clusters of coelomic cells accumulate green pigment whilst still in the coelom and then migrate to the integument of the body wall.  相似文献

In this paper we report on the mechanism of action of bonellin on sea urchin eggs. Bonellin acts in the same way as porphyrins, ie, by causing the crosslinking of membrane proteins and the peroxocompounds formation. 1. Reverse-phase HPLC and organic solvents were used to isolate small basic peptide (SBP) toxins from the venoms of Crotalus adamanteus, C. durissus terrificus, C. horridus, C. scutulatus scutulatus, C. viridis concolor, C. viridis helleri and C. viridis viridis. 2. Acid-DEP analyses indicated a high degree of toxin purity which was obtained with a single HPLC run. 3. The combined results of HPLC, immunodiffusion and electrophoresis analyses of venoms from different geographical regions indicate that the SBP toxin content in the venoms of Crotalus adamanteus, Crotalus horridus, Crotalus scutulatus and Crotalus viridis viridis may vary regionally.  相似文献

A new alkyl catechol (bonediol) was isolated from root bark of Bonellia macrocarpa. The structure of bonediol was characterized by spectral analysis (UV, IR, 1D and 2D NMR, and MS). Bonediol exhibited certain activity and selectivity on three cancer cell lines (KB, Hep-2, and SiHa).  相似文献

经形态学鉴定和rDNA ITS序列分析,16株分离自北京、河北、河南发病狗尾草的菌株、2株分别分离自河南发病虎尾草、牛筋草的菌株和1株分离自青海发病野燕麦的菌株被鉴定为狗尾草平脐蠕孢Bipolaris setariae。接种试验表明,来自狗尾草的菌株比来自其他寄主植物的菌株对狗尾草致病性强,分离自野燕麦的菌株对狗尾草无致病性,分离自不同地区不同样品狗尾草的菌株其致病性有显著差异。菌株NY1对狗尾草有很强致病性,接种后5d植株叶片即全部呈枯死状,接种后7d整个植株枯萎死亡。菌株NY1对马唐和虎尾草也有很强致病性,但对于大多数供试栽培植物致病性很弱或无致病性。因此,B. setariae NY1菌株具有进一步开发成为狗尾草、马唐和虎尾草等杂草的生物除草剂的潜力。  相似文献

芽孢杆菌通过提高黄顶菊对氮和磷的吸收促进外来黄顶菊的入侵 外来植物入侵对土壤芽孢杆菌(Bacillus)多样性的影响及芽孢杆菌在外来植物入侵中的作用目前尚不清楚。黄顶菊(Flaveria bidentis)是入侵中国的有害杂草,狗尾草(Setaria viridis)是黄顶菊入侵地常见的伴生植物种。本研究利用野外大田试验和温室盆栽试验,比较黄顶菊和狗尾草根际土壤芽孢杆菌群落结构的差异,以及黄顶菊和狗尾草根际土壤芽孢杆菌对黄顶菊竞争生长的影响。野外大田试验包括黄顶菊 单种、黄顶菊和狗尾草混种、狗尾草单种3个处理。利用16S rRNA基因测序技术研究了不同处理两种植物 根际土壤芽孢杆菌的多样性,获知黄顶菊根际土壤聚集的优势芽孢杆菌;利用温室盆栽试验探究优势芽孢杆菌对黄顶菊竞争生长的影响。研究结果表明,黄顶菊和狗尾草根际土壤芽孢杆菌多样性差异显著,其中耐寒芽孢杆菌是黄顶菊和狗尾草根际土壤聚集的优势芽孢杆菌,但是黄顶菊根际土壤中耐寒芽孢杆菌相对丰度显著高于狗尾草根际土壤耐寒芽孢杆菌的相对丰度。接菌试验表明,与狗尾草根际土壤中的耐寒芽孢杆菌相比,黄顶菊根际土壤聚集的耐寒芽孢杆菌提高了黄顶菊体内氮和磷的水平。总之,黄顶菊入侵改变了根际土壤芽孢杆菌的群落结构,黄顶菊根际土壤聚集的耐寒芽孢杆菌通过提高黄顶菊植株体内氮、磷水平来促进黄顶菊的生长。  相似文献

The mating calls of Bufo viridis populations from Israel were studied and compared with that of a Central-European population in order to evaluate their nature, variation and evolutionary origin. In Israeli Bufo viridis , call duration, pulse duration and interpulse interval are negatively correlated with temperature, whereas fundamental frequency is negatively correlated with body size. The Israeli and Central-European Bufo viridis are almost identical in call duration, pulse number, pulse duration and pulse rate. They differ slightly but significantly in interpulse interval and more obviously, in their fundamental frequency. The latter is correlated with body size. Since Israeli Bufo viridis are much larger than the Central-European ones, their fundamental frequency is distinctly lower.
Bufo viridis illustrates a case in which variation in the fundamental frequency of the mating call is probably largely an incidental product of adaptive differentiation of body size to the humidity index.  相似文献

A gene transfer system for Rhodopseudomonas viridis was established which uses conjugation with Escherichia coli S17-I as the donor and mobilizable plasmids as vectors. Initially, plasmids of the incompatibility group P1 (pRK290 and pRK404) were used. The more effective shuttle vectors between E. coli and R. viridis, pKV1 and pKVS1, were derived from plasmid pBR322 and showed the highest conjugation frequency (10(-2] thus far demonstrated in purple bacteria. It was also demonstrated that Rhizobium meliloti can be used as a donor for conjugation with R. viridis. From a genomic cosmid library of R. viridis constructed in the vector pHC79, clones that coded for subunits H (puh operon), L, M and cytochrome c (puf operon) of the photosynthetic reaction center were isolated and characterized. For linkage of the two operons on the genome, cosmids that overlapped with the operon-carrying clones were identified. The relative positions of the two operons could not be determined, but the operons must be more than 100 kilobase pairs apart. Thus, the genomic organization of the reaction center in R. viridis is different from that of Rhodobacter capsulatus, for which a distance of about 39 kilobase pairs was determined. From a spontaneous mutant of R. viridis that is resistant to the herbicide terbutryn, the puf operon was cloned in pKVS1 and transferred by conjugation into R. viridis wild-type cells. The resulting exconjugants were resistant to the herbicide, which demonstrated that the puf operon on pKVS1 constructions was functionally expressed in R. viridis.  相似文献

The blue green damselfishes were described as a complex of two species ( Chromis viridis and Chromis atripectoralis ), mainly based on the colouration of the pectoral fin base. In this study, the authors analysed the mitochondrial control region of 88 blue green damselfishes from Indonesia, the Philippines, Red Sea and the Great Barrier Reef. The phylogenetic analysis revealed four major monophyletic clades. Two clades included specimens of C. atripectoralis from the Great Barrier Reef and individuals of C. viridis from the Red Sea, respectively. The remaining individuals of C. viridis from Indonesia and the Philippines were grouped into two clades without phylogeographic structure. The obtained results (1) verified that C. viridis and C. atripectoralis are distinct species and (2) revealed three deep evolutionary lineages of C. viridis in the Indo-Malay Archipelago and the Red Sea.  相似文献

A gene coding for the photosynthetic reaction center-bound cytochrome subunit, pufC, of Blastochloris viridis, which belongs to the alpha-purple bacteria, was introduced into Rubrivivax gelatinosus, which belongs to the beta-purple bacteria. The cytochrome subunit of B. viridis was synthesized in the R. gelatinosus cells, in which the native pufC gene was knocked out, and formed a chimeric reaction center (RC) complex together with other subunits of R. gelatinosus. The transformant was able to grow photosynthetically. Rapid photo-oxidization of the hemes in the cytochrome subunit was observed in the membrane of the transformant. The soluble electron carrier, cytochrome c(2), isolated from B. viridis was a good electron donor to the chimeric RC. The redox midpoint potentials and the redox difference spectra of four hemes in the cytochrome subunit of the chimeric RC were almost identical with those in the B. viridis RC. The cytochrome subunit of B. viridis seems to retain its structure and function in the R. gelatinosus cell. The chimeric RC and its mutagenesis system should be useful for further studies about the cytochrome subunit of B. viridis.  相似文献
