According to data of long-term observations in Russian waters of the Sea of Japan, it was shown that skate Raja pulchra occurs only off the coasts of western Sakhalin. In all probability, it is a constant inhabitant of these waters during the course of the year; like the overwhelming majority of bottom and near-bottom fish, it performs seasonal bathymetric migrations in autumn, for wintering to the insular slope to a depth of 695 m, and in spring to shallow waters. Maximum length of R. pulchra recorded in catches is 106 cm. The main food items of R. pulchra are decapods and fish. The stock of R. pulchra off the coasts of western Sakhalin is assessed as 520 t.  相似文献

The first fossil viperfish from Russia is recorded. It comes from the Neogene of Sakhalin Island and is assigned to a new species, Chauliodus testa (Pisces: Stomiidae). The new species is most similar to living Ch. macouni and differs from it in the completely ossifying cervical centra, the fewer cervical vertebrae, and the short predorsal distance. The finding of deep-sea viperfishes in the Miocene of western Sakhalin is evidence of independent development of the ichthyofauna in the Neogene of the Tartar Strait and Sea of Japan.  相似文献

Based on materials of expeditions of TINRO-Center on the western Kamchatka shelf in July 2005, 2008, and 2010, we analyze data on feeding of Sakhalin flounder. Sakhalin flounders are consumers of euphausiids, copepods, amphipods, polychaetes, and juvenile fish. The calculated values of the trophic levels are 3.58–3.95. Consumption of maturing and mature Sakhalin flounder primarily plankton prey leads to divergence of ecological niches with morphologically close yellowfin sole, extends prey species, and apparently provides the basis for the dominance of the western Kamchatka shelf community. Mature and maturing Sakhalin flounders feed predominantly on plankton prey, which leads to a divergence of their ecological niche with morphologically close yellowfin sole and expanding food supply and apparently is the basis of the dominance of flatfish community of the western Kamchatka shelf.  相似文献

Arctic warbler Phylloscopus borealis is one of several high‐latitude Passerines which are widely distributed across one northern continent but restricted to the Beringian part of the other. Most species with such asymmetric intercontinental ranges are monomorphic across Beringia, suggesting either recent colonization of the second continent or considerable gene flow across the Bering Strait. Arctic warbler is the only migratory species in this group that has three different subspecies in Beringia: Ph. b. borealis (Scandinavia to western Beringia, south to Mongolia), Ph. b. xanthodryas (Japan, Sakhalin, Kamchatka, western Beringia), and Ph. b. kennicotti (Alaska). This polymorphism may indicate that Arctic warbler has a unique and complex phylogeographic history that differs significantly from other species with similar ranges. Our analyses of complete mtDNA ND2 sequences of 88 Arctic warblers collected across the species range showed that the clade comprised of birds breeding on Sakhalin Island and Kamchatka Peninsula diverged from the Palearctic/Beringian clade by 3.8% in ND2 sequence. Beringian birds formed a recently derived clade embedded within the Palearctic clade. Nucleotide diversity declined sharply eastward from Palearctic to western Beringia and then to eastern Beringia. Our data provided no support for currently recognized subspecies. They suggested that the barrier at the western edge of Beringia was crossed by Arctic warbler earlier than the Bering Strait resulting in a stepping‐stone colonization of Beringia by this species. Gene flow appears to be restricted across the western border of Beringia but not the Bering Strait.  相似文献

This study examines the biodiversity of submarine-soil filamentous fungi in Sakhalin Gulf for the first time. A total of 82 species of fungi belonging to 35 genera were isolated and identified. Of these, representatives of Anamorphic fungi were predominant. All species identified were facultative marine fungi, except one, Acremonium fuci, which was known until now only from marine habitats. The qualitative and quantitative structure of submarine-soil fungal assemblages of the eastern part (Amur River plume) and the western part (continental shelf) of Sakhalin Gulf was studied.  相似文献

The spatial distribution of eggs and larvae of the walleye pollock Theragra chalcogramma is considered in respect to dynamics of oceanologic processes, nutrients, chlorophyll а and zooplankton off the northeastern coast of Sakhalin Island in spring 2012. It is shown that the effect of severe temperature regime in the near-bottom horizons in the western Sea of Okhotsk during the spawning period of walleye pollock becomes milder due to specific features of water dynamics. The egg distribution is determined by mesoscale eddies in the region. The species survival depends on the effect of such environmental factors as freshwater discharge from the Amur River, eddy structure in waters of the Sea of Okhotsk, and dynamics of phytoplankton and zooplankton development.  相似文献

Phylogeographic analysis on the basis of individual marker variability provides insight into the history and mechanisms of the range formation of widely distributed species. A preliminary study of the mtDNA cytochrome b gene in Siberian rubythroat Luscinia calliope revealed the existence of three well-differentiated haplogroups, including one western and two eastern haplogroups. Continuing the study of the genetic markers of the species, we found that, in western part of the range, represented by the nominative geographic race, there were almost exclusively haplotypes of western group. In eastern populations of Khabarovsk krai, Chukotka, Kamchatka, and Sakhalin, haplotypes of all groups are mixed in different proportions. At the same time, the populations of Hokkaido and Iturup islands are exclusively represented by individuals with eastern haplotypes. Comparison of the identified nuclear copies of mitochondrial genes and construction of the phylogenetic network of haplotypes on the basis of cloned and initial sequences showed that two groups of eastern haplotypes (one of which geographically corresponded to L. c. anadyrensis and L. c. camtschatkensis and the second corresponded to L. c. sachalinensis) originated from nuclear pseudogenes of L. c. calliope through intergenomic recombination. In this regard, we propose a new hypothesis for the establishment of the modern range of this species, according to which the Siberian rubythroat dispersal from South Siberia occurred in two stages. At first, the species expanded its range to the northeast in the direction of the Kolyma and Koryak uplands. During the settling of these areas of northeastern Asia, a recombination between the mitochondrial and nuclear DNA took place, which led to the forming of a new haplotype, which was widespread in the emerging breeding populations. Birds with recombinant haplotypes populated the territories of Chukotka and Kamchatka, and then gradually occupied the Kuril Islands and, eventually, reached Hokkaido. At the next stage, Siberian rubythroat, probably, appeared in Sakhalin Island during spring migration, where some individuals stopped for breeding. Settling of the island was accompanied by similar intergenomic recombination and rapid fixation of a new recombinant haplotype with its subsequent spread across Sakhalin. The insular way of dispersal is completely repeated by modern migrants.  相似文献

Here we report development and characterization of seven polymorphic loci derived from grass rockfish (Sebastes rastrelliger) genomic DNA phagemid libraries enriched for microsatellite motifs. Within grass rockfish, average allelic diversity was 11.3 alleles per locus and average heterozygosity was 0.73. The seven loci also were surveyed in 10 related species of Sebastes, where allelic diversity ranged from highly polymorphic to monomorphic. Deviations from Hardy–Weinberg were nonsignificant in all but one species/locus combination suggesting low occurrence of null alleles. Significant linkage disequilibrium was detected among three loci, but these events were limited to a single species in each case.  相似文献

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Sakhalin sturgeon Acipenser mikadoi and two mitogenomes of the Amur sturgeon A. schrenckii were sequenced using Roche 454 technology. The mitogenomes of the green sturgeon A. medirostris (obtained from GenBank) and the Sakhalin sturgeon differ as much as the mitogenomes of two mtDNA haplogroups (SM and BG) found in the same population of the Amur sturgeon: 0.0042 ± 0.0006 and 0.0036 ± 0.0005 substitutions per site (Tamura–Nei distance, TrN), respectively. The differences of these mitogenome pairs from mitogenomes of sister species (kaluga A. dauricus and white sturgeon A. transmontanus) are 3–6 times larger: 0.0260 ± 0.0015 and 0.0102 ± 0.0008, respectively. Thus, the differences between the mitogenomes of the Sakhalin and green sturgeons can be attributed to the variability at the intraspecific level. The time that has passed since the divergence of the Sakhalin and green sturgeons is considered to be much shorter than was previously believed: approximately 0.16 rather than 9.60 million years.  相似文献

A video camera mounted in an underwater housing and remotely operated was used to monitor the behaviour of five different Sakhalin taimen (Parahucho perryi), females and attendant males spawning in three coastal tributary streams in Northern Hokkaido, Japan. Based on three complete and two incomplete spawnings, we describe in detail for the first time the complete spawning behavioural repertoire of this species. The Sakhalin taimen was originally placed within Hucho, then removed from that genus based on morphological, life history and molecular data. Our study supports that removal—none of the behavioural traits we recorded clustered Parahucho with Hucho uniquely. Similarities between the two genera were all plesiomorphic traits that are widespread throughout the salmonines. The immediate behaviour right after spawning was found to be a major difference between Hucho and Parahucho. Like female Oncorhynchus and Salmo, Sakhalin taimen females cover their eggs by beats of their tails immediately after spawning. This is different from the “rest, then cover” behaviour shown by Siberian taimen (Hucho taimen) as well as lenok (Brachymystax lenok), supporting again that the Sakhalin taimen be removed from Hucho and placed in its own genus.  相似文献

The vermilion rockfish complex, which consists of the cryptic sister species vermilion and sunset rockfish, is one of the most valuable recreational fisheries on the U.S. West Coast. These species are currently managed as a single complex, and because of uncertainty surrounding the relative contribution of each species within existing data sources, the stock status of each species is not fully known. A reliable and cost-effective method is needed to disentangle these species that will allow for the development of abundance indices, life history profiles, and catch histories that may potentially support species-specific stock assessments. Using restriction-site associated DNA sequence (RADseq) markers we generated 10,003 polymorphic loci to characterize the vermilion rockfish complex. PCA and Bayesian clustering approaches based on these loci clearly distinguished between sunset and vermilion rockfishes and identified hybrid individuals. These loci included 203 highly differentiated (FST?≥?0.99) single nucleotide polymorphisms, which we consider candidates in the planned development of a diagnostic assay capable of distinguishing between these cryptic species. In addition to clearly delineating to species, subsets of the interspecific markers allowed for insight into intraspecific differentiation in both species. Population genetic analyses for sunset rockfish identified two weakly divergent genetic groups with similar levels of genetic diversity. Vermilion rockfish, however, were characterized by three distinct genetic groups with much stronger signals of differentiation and significantly different genetic diversities. Collectively, these data will contribute to well-informed, species-specific management strategies to protect this valuable species complex.

Analysis of a 551-bp segment of the mitochondrial DNA control region in 23 individuals from nine populations of Dolly Varden from Sakhalin and three individuals from the Shikaribetsu Lake (Hokkaido) revealed the presence of seven haplotypes of southern form, along with one haplotype of northern form of Dolly Varden. All seven haplotypes of southern Dolly Varden were earlier described in the populations from Hokkaido. Hierarchical analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) based on the haplotype frequencies, performed using literature data, suggested that, during the glacial epoch, there were three regional population groups of Dolly Varden (from eastern and western coasts of Sakhalin, and from Southern Primorye). Population groups from Sakhalin and Primorye were clearly separated. The differences between two Sakhalin population groups in the mtDNA haplotype frequencies were not statistically significant. However, relative to the earlier obtained data on microsatellite loci, these differences were statistically significant. For the populations of Sakhalin Dolly Varden, the data on mitochondrial and microsatellite DNA variation supplement each other.  相似文献

Allometric growth of the stomach, intestine, and caeca was compared between two sympatric congeners, the copper rockfish ( Sebastes caurinus ) and the quillback rockfish ( S. maliger ), to examine the species-specific differences in their gut tract in relation to their general feeding habits. The intestine of copper rockfish was shorter and its mass less than the intestine of quillback rockfish. Copper rockfish also had a greater stomach mass and, on average, a greater number of pyloric caeca than quillback rockfish. The differences in the gut allometry between the species were consistent with differences in their general food habits as copper rockfish consume proportionally more fish and larger crustaceans than quillback rockfish.  相似文献

The absolute low-light sensitivity of four congeneric species of rockfish (genus Sebastes) was studied from analysis of electroretinograms measured in living fish. The purpose was: (1) to determine if temperature sensitive noise in rod photoreceptors affects the absolute limit to low-light sensitivity at environmentally realistic temperatures and light levels, and (2) to examine whether interspecific variations in habitat utilization within rockfish communities correlate with differences in visual sensitivity. It was found that the low-light sensitivity of individual retinae is inversely dependent on temperature, decreasing tenfold with a 10°C increase in temperature. While in all four species, temperature had a similar effect on sensitivity, the absolute sensitivity levels were different. The four species could be divided into two groups based on measured sensitivity. Kelp and olive rockfish form a high-sensitivity group capable of responding to light levels approximately 50-fold lower than blue and black rockfish. The sensitivity groups correlated with reported diel activity patterns; the high-sensitivity group forages nocturnally, whereas members of the low-sensitivity group are quiescent during twilight and night and forage during the day.  相似文献

This study focuses on the strategy for the conservation of masu salmon, Oncorhynchus masou, in the northern part of the species range (via the masu populations in Sakhalin Oblast), based on data of its population structure. It is shown that masu populations that inhabit different rivers genetically differ from each other in allele frequencies at microsatellite markers. In the Naiba River basin, at least two genetically distinct masu populations exist: in the upper reaches and in a tributary, the Bolshoy Takoy River. The masu populations on Iturup Island significantly differ from those on Sakhalin Island; within Sakhalin, the masu salmon from the Chernaya River in the southwestern part of the island is genetically distinct from the southeastern Sakhalin and Aniva Bay populations. The genetic diversity of Iturup populations is substantially lower than that on Sakhalin, probably due to their small sizes. The measures for the conservation and recovery of masu salmon populations should be based primarily on their own genetic resources, or, in the case of a lack of spawners, on the base populations of their ecological/geographical region. In the latter case, masu populations of large rivers can be considered as base ones: for southeastern Sakhalin, this is masu salmon of the Naiba River; for Aniva Bay, this is masu salmon of the Lyutoga River. Transplantation of fish, fertilized eggs, or any other genetic material from a population that is different genetically and inhabits the waters with different ecological gradients should be strongly restricted. The formosan masu salmon from Taiwan Island is studied as an example of a strict genetic isolate.  相似文献

The systematics of the species-rich genus of Sebastes rockfish has not been resolved, and is unlikely to be resolved using morphological criteria. Using an alternative approach based on DNA sequence variation, we sampled the genome for random, presumably neutral, nuclear DNA sequences, by sequencing microsatellite flanking regions of 15 Sebastes species (representing 15 of 22 extant subgenera) and Hozukius emblemarius. We aligned sequences of flanking regions of eight of the 13 loci that amplified, which presumably are homologous. In aggregate, the aligned sequences included 848 bp, 53 bp of which were polymorphic. The base changes among species included 27 transitions, 20 transversions, three multiple substitutions, and three deletions or insertions. The flanking regions at different loci had different base substitution rates. Nucleotide divergence among Sebastes species ranged from 0.0012 to 0.0216, whereas nucleotide divergence between Sebastes and Hozukius species ranged from 0.0095 to 0.0240. We used maximum parsimony, neighbor-joining, and maximum likelihood methods to examine relationships among the species. H. emblemariusformed a separate group, and five of the western Pacific Ocean species of rockfish clustered together, suggesting that they may have shared an evolutionary history distinct from many North American species. The flanking regions of some microsatellite loci contain DNA sequence variation that distinguishes rockfish species and may prove useful for clarifying relationships among rockfish, or other closely related species.  相似文献

Alaskan shortraker rockfish population structure was analyzed by examining allelic variation at eight microsatellite loci. Samples were collected along the continental shelf and upper slope from the south end of Baranof Island to the western Aleutian Islands, and collections were pooled into eight geographically distinct groups. An exact test of homogeneity indicated population structure (p < 0.0006) among groups. The proportion of the total variation that was attributable to divergence among populations (θ = 0.0014) was not statistically significant, and no evidence of a geographic cline of structure was detected. Finer scale analyses that compared adjacent collections indicated that the collection from the southern end of the range differed from all remaining collections at three loci. Structure related to geographic location was detected by partitioning the variation among populations. The size distributions of shortraker rockfish varied among collections from east to west. The size differences may reflect divergent oceanographic and biological factors acting on populations that have restricted migration and movement. Alternatively, if there is substantial movement accompanied by lengthy reverse migration to natal grounds, the size differences may be related to ages of cohorts that are differentially distributed along the Pacific Rim. Further biological information including size, age composition, and age of maturity data, as well as information on other life history characteristics will be required to explain shortraker rockfish population structure.  相似文献

The size selective feeding of the black rockfish, Sebastes inermis, in a demersal fish assemblage of Onagawa Bay, located in northeastern Japan, was studied using laboratory experiments and stomach content analysis of the dominant demersal fish coexisting with the black rockfish in Onagawa Bay. The preferred food size of the black rockfish was determined in the laboratory experiments. The average food size taken by the black rockfish (150–227 mm long) under natural conditions was much smaller than that taken by fish in laboratory experiments (148–158 mm sized). The most preferred size of food taken by fish in laboratory experiments was rarely found under natural conditions. Analysis of the competition coefficients of fish species in the fish assemblage based on stomach content analysis suggested that the degrees to which the preferred food size was found depended upon the foods availability, by competition with other fish species and by the feeding ability of the fish. Intra- and inter-specific competition in a fish assemblage might be limiting factors on the food size selection of fish under natural conditions.  相似文献

Photographic identification of the Korean-Okhotsk gray whale Eschrichtius robustus population has been conducted since 2002 by researchers of the Institute of Marine Biology at the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMB FEB RAS), with financial support provided by Exon Neftegas, Ltd. and Sakhalin Energy Investment Co., in order to study the migration features and biology of this species. In 2008, photo-ID studies were carried out in two areas, off the northeastern coast of Sakhalin Island and off the southeastern coast of Kamchatka. As a result of the studies, 122 whales known from the Sakhalin gray whale catalogue were photographed. Of them, 97 individuals were registered off Sakhalin, 24, off Kamchatka, and one whale was observed at both sites. In addition, 25 more gray whales that had not been sighted off Sakhalin Island before were found off the coast of Kamchatka. Based on these photographic materials, the whales physical and skin conditions were also analyzed. Cases of sightings of gray whales in areas that are remote from their traditional summer and fall feeding grounds in the Far Eastern seas of Russia are discussed.  相似文献
