The genus Tambja previously included 24 described species. Fournew species, T. tentaculata n. sp., T. gabrielae n. sp., T.zulu n. sp. and Tambja victoriae n. sp., from the Indo-Pacificare described. Tambja tentaculata n. sp., from Guam, is theonly known species in the genus with well developed, dorsolaterallygrooved, oral tentacles. Its inner lateral teeth have a bifidinner cusp with two long, sharp denticles. The oral tentaclesof T. tentaculata are more typical of Roboastra species, whilethe shape of the inner lateral teeth is more typical of Tambja.Nevertheless, the arrangement of the two cusps of the innerlateral teeth and the presence of a rachidian tooth withoutdenticles and with a central notch at the anterior edge, typicalof the species of the genus Tambja, suggest the placement withinthis genus. Tambja gabrielae n. sp., from Indonesia and PapuaNew Guinea, has dark green to dark brown ground colour withbright yellow patches scattered on the body. Tambja zulu n.sp. from Durban, South Africa, is characterized by a black groundcolour with slender yellow longitudinal lines. Tambja victoriaen. sp. is a new species from Papua New Guinea and Australiathat has frequently been misidentified as Roboastra arika, characterizedby its blue body colour and yellow lines. The four species aredistinguishable based on differences in body coloration, ofcharacters of the radula and of the reproductive system. Anoverview on distinguishing features of all known Indo-PacificTambja species is presented. (Received 21 June 2004; accepted 20 January 2005)  相似文献

Two new Italian species of the genus Islamia (Prosobranchia:Hydrobiidae), one living in eastern Sicily (I. cianensis), andone on Elba Island (Tuscan Archipelago, Italy) (I. gaiteri)are described. The two species are distinguished on the basisof shell and anatomical characters, mainly those of the malegenitalia. I. cianesis n. sp. is characterized by a valvatoidshell and a penial lobe with internal band of glandular tissuenot distinct in its lower portion from the penis body but bulgingapically as a small knob. I. gaiteri n. sp. is characterizedby a planispiral shell and a small lateral penial lobe withoutinternal glandular tissue. (Received 20 December 1993; accepted 27 June 1994)  相似文献

Three species of loricate choanoflagellates (Choanoflagdlida,Acanthoecidae), collected from the Andaman Sea near Phuket Island(SW Thailand), have been described and referred to Apheloeciongen.nov. (holotype: A. quadrispinum sp.nov.). All species possessa single-chambered lorica composed of one transverse costs overlaidby a limited number of longitudinal costae which converge posteriorly.Anteriorly the longitudinal costae protrude above the transversecosta as sharp pointed spines. In A. quadrispinum sp.nov. andA. pentacanthum sp.nov. the lorica is terminated by a shortposterior spine, whereas in A. articulatum sp.nov. the pedicelis much more prominent, consisting of several costal stripswhich are joined end-to-end. The species of Apheloecion appearto be most closely related to species of Calliacantha and Monocosta.None of the species described are so far known from localitiesoutside the Andaman Sea.  相似文献

Only a single species of deep-sea wood boring bivalve has beenknown off the forested northwest coast of North America, althoughthe Xylophagainae are so diverse in other areas that up to fivespecies occur in a given length of wood. To determine whetheradditional species were present in the Northeast Pacific andif so, how they coexist, lengths of wood were experimentallydeployed on heavily sedimented sites on the Cascadia Basin andEscanaba Trough, non-hydrothermally active basalt on Gorda Ridgeand Axial Volcano, and an isolated sediment pond within theaxis of Juan de Fuca Ridge, at depths of between 1,530 and 3,232 m.All locations were between 41°and 48°N, at least 240 kmoff the North American coast. Six previously unknown species,Xylophaga corona n. sp., X. zierenbergi n. sp., X. heterosiphonn. sp., X. oregona n. sp., X. microchira n. sp. and Xylopholascrooki n. sp., were collected and are described here. Dominantspecies differed in recoveries made after 10 and 24 months atJuan de Fuca Ridge and Cascadia Basin localities. Xylophagamicrochira n. sp. dominated four of five deployments recoveredwithin 12 months, but its abundance declined by 24 months, beinglargely replaced on Juan de Fuca Ridge by X. oregona n. sp.,a species known only from this Ridge and from an incidentalcollection on the Nootka Fracture Zone. At Cascadia Basin sites, the abundances of X. heterosiphon n. sp. and of what are likelyto be predatory polyclad flatworms increased as that of X. microchiran. sp. declined. Xylophaga microchira n. sp. is hypothesizedto be specialized for early colonization, but to be competitivelyinferior to X. oregona n. sp., and more vulnerable to predatorsthan X. heterosiphon n. sp. The dominance of competitively superiorand more predator-resistant species in older deployments arguesthat biotic interactions contribute to coexistence of multiplespecies of wood-borers despite direct competition among them. The intertimdal gastropod Thais malayensis n.sp. (Neogastropoda,Muncidae) is described from Singapore and peninsular Malaysia.Although a common species, it may have been previously overlookedor mistaken for other species found in and near mangroves. Anotherpoorly known species, T javanica (Phdippi) may also have beenconfounded with the new species. New data on their soft parts, radulae, opercula, and egg capsule morphology are presentedto distinguish between these closely related species. A new species of Oxynoe from the Florida Keys is described. It differs from the other Caribbean Oxynoe, O. antillarum Mörch,1863, in color, number and size of papillae, size increase ofradular teeth, diet, and type of development. The type of developmentis extended lecithotrophic. The larvae hatch about 4 weeks afterthe eggs have been deposited, and metamorphosis is completedafter about one additional week. Oxynoe azuropunctata n.sp.feeds on Caulerpa paspaloides, C. cupressoides and C. sertularioides.Details of the feeding process in Oxynoe are described for thefirst time. The junction of the oral tube and the pharynx isequipped with a complex muscular buccal apparatus, part of whichis everted during feeding. The protrusible parts of the buccalapparatus completely surround part of an algal filament, whichis then slit with the radula, and the cell sap is sucked out.The protrusible parts are retracted after the filament has beenreleased. *Present address: Ellebjergvej 22, 1 t.h., DK-2450 CopenhagenSV, Denmark (Received 13 November 1979;  相似文献

Species of the gastropod genus Larochea Finlay, 1927 are shownto be scissurellids without an anal shell slit or foramen. TheNew Zealand species, L. miranda Finlay, 1927 and L. secundaPowell, 1937, brood their young in the right subpallial cavityagainst a modified inner lip that is set well behind the aperturalplane. Larochea scitula n.sp. is based on shells from WanganellaBank, southern Norfolk Ridge. Larocheopsis n. gen. is introducedfor a minute species from off northern New Zealand that lacksa shell brood chamber. Larochea miranda and Larocheopsis amplexan.sp. are either gonochoristic with smaller males or consecutivehermaphrodites, while Larochea secunda and L. scitula are evidentlygonochoristic, having mature males and females of similar size. The new genus Atebbania is described for a new hydrobiid species,A. bernasconii, which lives in groundwaters of southern Morocco.Of the Hydrobiidae genera with known shell and anatomy Moitessieriais the closest to Atebbania. The two share the following characters:shell elongate; teleoconch surface with evident microsculpture;seminal receptacle absent. Atebbania is distinguished from Moitessieriaby: shell ovate; penis with a) apical stylet, b) one lobe bentdownward on left (inner) side and c) penial duct running nearthe right (outer) side; posterior end of foot indented. Atebbaniabernasconii n. sp., lives in a limited area, the Tiznit plainin southern Morocco. Other stygobiont hydrobiids from otherareas of Morocco are currently being studied. None of them appearsto be closely related to A. bernasconii or to the species ofMoitessieria (Received 10 February 1998; accepted 30 April 1998)  相似文献

For three Prorocentrum species, P. minimum (Pavillard) Schiller,P. rhathymum sp. nov., and P. triestinum Schiller, we have foundthat both flagella emerge from a single large pore. This arrangementis contrary to previous observations which suggested they arosefrom separate pores. Prorocentrum triestinum has only one anteriorpore, whereas P. minimum and P. rhathymum sp. nov. have an additionalauxiliary pore. The pores in all three species are formed bya series of small plates. The left and right valves on eachspecies can be identified by ornamentation unique to each valve.Prorocentrum rhathymum sp. nov., isolated from the planktonof Cinnamon Bay, Virgin Islands, is described. 2 The Biological Laboratories, Harvard University, Cambridge,Massachusetts 02138 3 Department of Botany, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina27706  相似文献

A monograph of the order Pyrosomatida (Tunicata, Thaliacea)   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The taxonomy of the order Pyrosomatida is revised based on theexamination of over 300 samples from all parts of the worldoceans. The order consists of a single family (Pyrosomatidae),two subfamilies (Pyrostremmatinae and Pyrosomatinae), threegenera (Pyrostremma, Pyrosomdla and Pyrosoma) and 8 species(Pyrostremma spinosum, P. agassizi, Pyrosomella verticillata.P. operculata, Pyrosoma atlanticum, P. aherniosum, P. ovatumand P. godeauxi n.sp.). The species are briefly described anddata on their distribution are provided. A key to the speciesis given. A cladistic analysis of the distribution of relevantcharacter states is made and ideas on evolutionary developmentare put forward. Biogeographical data are summarized and inconjunction with that the likely modes of speciation in thisgroup are briefly discussed.  相似文献
