To evaluate the attractiveness of several mushroom‐growing substrates to the female mushroom fly Lycoriella ingenua (Dufour) (Diptera: Sciaridae), a pest of the cultivated white button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus (JE Lange) Emil J Imbach (Agaricales), we developed a two‐choice, static‐flow olfactometer. Behavioral assays using this olfactometer indicated that mushroom compost with A. bisporus mycelia growing in it was not more attractive than compost lacking growing mycelia. We also found that female flies were more attracted to compost lacking A. bisporus mycelia than to the actual commodity, the white button mushroom fruiting bodies. Flies were not, however, attracted to sterilized compost, suggesting the attraction is due to volatiles produced by microbial metabolism in the compost. We also found that female L. ingenua flies were attracted to the mycoparasitic green mold Trichoderma aggressivum Samuels & W Gams (Hypocreales). Flies preferred mushroom compost that had T. aggressivum growing in it over compost lacking T. aggressivum, providing an experimental outcome consistent with the anecdotal belief that L. ingenua flies are vectors of T. aggressivum spores that can infest mushroom‐growing houses.  相似文献

Primary sources of Pseudomonas tolaasi Paine on a mushroom farm were the peat and limestone used in the casing process. The pathogen could not be detected in the farm soil, water supply, the mushroom spawn used, or in compost after spawning, but was isolated from the casing (peat/limestone mixture) layer of symptom-free mushroom beds and both the casing layer and compost of beds bearing diseased mushrooms. Secondary sources were numerous once the pathogen was present in mushroom beds. These included symptomless and diseased mushrooms, the fingers and shoes of people handling the crop, their baskets, knives and ladders. Ps. tolaasi could be isolated from dust in the air in infected houses and also from floors. Spores of infected mushrooms may transport the bacterium, as did sciarid flies and mites which are common pests of mushroom crops.  相似文献

The entomopathogenic nematodes Steinernema feltiae (Biosys strain #27) and Heterorhabditis heliothidis were evaluated for the larval control of a mushroom-infesting sciarid, Lycoriella mali, and for the effects of these nematodes on mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) production. In a series of small-scale mushroom crops, infective-stage H. heliothidis and S. feltiae were applied to the mushroom casing surface in the irrigation water or incorporated into the casing material at densities ranging from 28 to 1120 and 11 to 1120 nematodes cm-2 of casing surface respectively. The mortality of L. mali larvae ranged from 52 to 100% for H. heliothidis and 38 to 100% for S. feltiae. Both nematode species reduced mycelial coverage on the casing surface at primordia initiation. Neither mushroom strain (off-white or white hybrid) or method of application (incorporation into or irrigation onto the casing surface) altered the effect on mycelial coverage. The nematodes's negative effect on mycelial growth confounded the benefit of fly control. At high nematode densities (up to 1120 nematodes cm-2), damage-free mushroom yields for the first week of harvest were less than those from the untreated control. However, at lower nematode densities, at or below 140 cm-2, the nematodes had less effect on mushroom growth, and consequently, damage-free mushroom yields for the first week of harvest were frequently greater than those from the untreated control. In the absence of flies, the first-week mushroom yield generally declined with increasing nematode densities for both white and off-white mushroom hybrids. After 4 weeks of harvest, accumulated mushroom yields had nearly recovered from the earlier decline.  相似文献

1. Dracula orchids mimic mushrooms in appearance and scent, and are pollinated by mushroom flies. This study examined the guilds of insect visitors to Dracula species and to co‐occurring mushrooms in an Ecuadorean cloud forest. Significant visitor overlap was documented (mostly in the genera Zygothrica and Hirtodrosophila; Drosophilidae). To test the brood‐site mimicry hypothesis, behavioural observations were also performed and rearing success was examined. 2. Many fly species that visit Dracula are also found on mushrooms. Furthermore, the presence of pollinia enabled us to document the fact that particular individuals visiting mushrooms also visit Dracula. Roughly two‐thirds of the visitors to these unusual flowers are fungal‐associated, and the rest appear to be Dracula specialists. 3. A variety of behaviours common on both host groups were observed, including courtship semaphoring, feeding, sheltering, defending territory, and mating. Given this suite of shared reproductive behaviour, it was hypothesised that flies may also oviposit in both substrates. Flies were reared from mushrooms, Dracula spp., and other flowers (controls) to determine which substrate led to the highest fitness for the flies. Very few flies emerged from the Dracula flowers and there was no species overlap between the emergent insects and the known pollinators. 4. Despite the fact that there is evidence for brood‐site mimicry, the Dracula situation is complex. All the flies could derive many of the same fitness benefits from the flowers as they do from mushrooms (shelter, food, mating), but they are clearly not gaining the same fitness benefit, in terms of progeny, on flowers compared with mushrooms.  相似文献

The acidic exopolysaccharides (EPSs) from 63 strains of mushroom production-associated fluorescent pseudomonads which were mucoid on Pseudomonas agar F medium (PAF) were isolated, partially purified, and characterized. The strains were originally isolated from discolored lesion which developed postharvest on mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) caps or from commercial lots of mushroom casing medium. An acidic galactoglucan, previously named marginalan, was produced by mucoid strains of the saprophyte Pseudomonas putida and the majority of mucoid strains of saprophytic P. fluorescens (biovars III and V) isolated from casing medium. One biovar II strain (J1) of P. fluorescens produced alginate, a copolymer of mannuronic and guluronic acids, and one strain (H13) produced an apparently unique EPS containing neutral and amino sugars. Of 10 strains of the pathogen "P. gingeri," the causal agent of mushroom ginger blotch, 8 gave mucoid growth on PAF. The "P. gingeri" EPS also was unique in containing both neutral sugar and glucuronic acid. Mucoid, weakly virulent strains of "P. reactans" produced either alginate or marginalan. All 10 strains of the pathogen P. tolaasii, the causal agent of brown blotch of mushrooms were nonnmucoid on PAF. Production of EPS by these 10 strains plus the 2 nonmucoid strains of "P. gingeri" also was negative on several additional solid media as well as in two broth media tested. The results support our previous studies indicating that fluorescent pseudomonads are a rich source of novel EPSs.  相似文献

Three white strains of mushroom were grown for quality assessment tests, a commercial Agaricus bisporus strain SOMYCEL U3 currently popular in most major mushroom producing countries and two tropical Agaricus bitorquis strains, ATCC 32675 and AGC W20. Mushrooms were harvested as stage 2 mushrooms (closed buttons with universal veil intact) and stored at 18°C (± 0.5°C) for 5 days during which time colour development, the rate of fruitbody maturation and weight loss were assessed. Throughout the storage period, a reflectance colormeter was used to monitor colour changes on the tops and sides of mushroom fruitbodies. The tops of both A. bitorquis strains were significantly more yellow than the A. bisporus strain, whereas the sides were significantly less yellow. Overall, the A. birorquis strain AGC W20 was clearly the least discoloured and least yellow at the time of harvest. Although all the three strains tested gave similar fresh weight losses during storage, i.e. approximately 10% per day, ATCC 32675 exhibited a very slow maturation rate. Both U3 and AGC W20 matured at a similar much faster rate forming open cups within the 5 day storage period. ATCC 32675 also showed the least increase in the degree of discolouration with time, whether readings were taken from the sides or tops of mushrooms. A breeding programme to combine the most salient features of AGC W20 (an intensely white mushroom at harvest, high yielding with distinct flush pattern) and ATCC 32675 (very slow maturation rate during storage) is suggested.  相似文献

Three formulations of diazinon: flowable granules (FG); wettable powder (WP); and emulsifiable concentration (EC), which are used for the control of mushroom pests, were compared for toxicity towards a hybrid and non-hybrid strain of the cultivated mushroom, Agaricus bisporus. With all formulations, yield and number of mushrooms were reduced according to dosage (linear trend). The EC was the most toxic and persistent formulation – equally so to both mushroom strains – and produced the most severe responses in all the parameters considered. The WP was the least toxic formulation. The hybrid strain was more susceptible to diazinon than the non-hybrid, but not markedly so.  相似文献

Wild strains of fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) placed into laboratory rearing conditions are subjected to selection pressures caused by the diet, cages, density of flies, and other factors. Selection that changes mating behavior of the strain may result in less effective males released in sterile insect programs. Tests were performed to examine the effects of protein in diet and adult interactions on egg production and mating during sexual maturation of the Mexican fruit fly (Anastrepha ludens Loew) in laboratory cages. Flies were offspring of wild flies collected from Chiapas or Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and reared on Valencia oranges. Experiments demonstrated effects of yeast hydrolysate protein in adult diet and pairing with males on production of mature and immature eggs, numbers of females producing eggs, and mating with females aged 15 d. Addition of protein to 4% fructose in the adult diet approximately tripled mature egg production in females maintained for the total maturation period with an equal number of males. Females that matured without males produced approximately 33% more-mature eggs when fed protein than those fed no protein. Total egg production of females matured without males and fed sugar only or sugar with protein was more than twice that of females matured with males. Tests to examine the effects of male and female diet separately on female egg production showed slightly higher egg production in females fed protein, or females paired with males fed protein, but these differences were not significant. The most definitive effects were that combining wild strain females and males in cages during maturation reduced egg production. This effect was greatest when flies were not fed protein.  相似文献

Thirteen species of saprobic rhabditid nematodes (11 genera) were identified from samples of compost and casing material collected from mushroom farms in the British Isles. Caenorhabditis elegans, the most frequently found saprobe, was mass-produced monoxenically and its effects on the cultivated mushroom, Agaricus bisporus (strain U3) were studied. C. elegans did not multiply in well-prepared, pasteurised, spawned compost, whereas casing material proved to be a highly suitable environment for its reproduction. An initial casing inoculum of 106 nematodes/crate of compost (7.5 kg), caused a significant reduction in mushroom yield. Losses in total mushroom yields of 11%, 20% and 26% were caused by initial inoculum rates of 106, 107and 2 × 107 nematodes/crate, respectively. Yields were negatively correlated with the initial nematode inoculation level and regression equations were derived. The nematode treatments caused fewer mushrooms to be produced and an absence of the usual distinctive flushing patterns. C. elegans caused considerable deterioration in mushroom quality and characteristic distortion of mushrooms. Individual sporophores were mis-shapen, notched and had brown or violet coloured grills. Up to 3.8%, 6.7% and 10.8% of total weight and 3.5%, 5.4% and 8% of total numbers of mushrooms were distorted at the three highest nematode inoculum rates tested. Weights and numbers of distorted mushrooms were positively correlated with the initial nematode population. C. elegans commonly colonised sporophores.  相似文献

2000年8~10月自大兴安岭新林林业局和兴隆林业局采集各种林型下的伞菌担子果,进行分离培养、纯化,获得36个菌株。经对红皮云杉室内接种试验获得6个可与红皮云杉共生形成外生菌根的菌株。室内接种试验结果表明,在红皮云杉播种苗上接种菌根菌的时期应在出苗后30d左右。菌根形成的适宜温度为20℃左右。筛选得到的6个菌株对红皮云杉幼苗的生长有明显的促进作用。接种林地菇(Agaricus silvaticus)、031和L15菌株的苗木叶绿素a含量明显高于其他菌株和对照;接种009、004、林地菇和L15菌株的苗木叶绿素b含量也明显高于其他菌株和对照;接种林地菇、L15、031、009和025菌株的苗木与对照苗木在重量上差异显著;其中接种林地菇和L15菌株的苗木比对照苗木分别增加了19.23%和23.08%;接种6个菌株的苗木与对照苗木高度比较差异非常显著,接种林地菇和L15菌株的苗木与对照相比分别增加17.83%和16.37%。室外接种结果表明,接种林地菇的苗木高生长最好,接种70d高于对照9.24%;接种菌株L15的苗木地径生长最好,接种70d高于对照9.92%;接种菌株009的苗木侧根数最多,接种70d高于对照51.91%;接种菌株009的苗木主根最长,接种70d高于对照3.36%;而接种菌株031的苗木全株感染菌根率最高,接种70d高于对照13.90%;接种菌株031的苗木光合作用最强,高于对照20.02%。从几项主要的指标综合来看,菌株L15、菌株009和菌株031是有潜在研究和应用价值的优良菌株。  相似文献

Shiitake mushroom consumption is increasing in Brazil. In addition to the implementation of new production methods, it is also important to increase productivity, quality and reduce production costs. In this study, six commercial Lentinula edodes strains were characterized for genetic diversity (rep-PCR analysis) and mushroom production (yield, number and weight of individual mushrooms) using different substrates and cultural conditions. All strains showed genetic differences by repetitive element palindromic based-polymerase chain reaction (rep-PCR). The richest substrate resulted in the greatest production under both environmental conditions. Strains LE4 and LE6 produced the majority of their mushrooms earlier than the other strains. The highest number of mushrooms was observed in the LE6 strain while the highest weights of individual mushrooms were observed in the LE4 strain. Controlled environmental conditions resulted in superior production for all strains, except for LE4, which had empirically greater yield in the semi-controlled environmental condition.  相似文献

Lecanicillium fungicola causes dry bubble disease in commercially cultivated mushroom. This review summarizes current knowledge on the biology of the pathogen and the interaction between the pathogen and its most important host, the white‐button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus. The ecology of the pathogen is discussed with emphasis on host range, dispersal and primary source of infection. In addition, current knowledge on mushroom defence mechanisms is reviewed. Taxonomy: Lecanicillium fungicola (Preuss) Zare and Gams: Kingdom Fungi; Phylum Ascomycota; Subphylum Pezizomycotina; Class Sordariomycetes; Subclass Hypocreales; Order Hypocreomycetidae; Family Cordycipitaceae; genus Lecanicillium. Host range: Agaricus bisporus, Agaricus bitorquis and Pleurotus ostreatus. Although its pathogenicity for other species has not been established, it has been isolated from numerous other basidiomycetes. Disease symptoms: Disease symptoms vary from small necrotic lesions on the caps of the fruiting bodies to partially deformed fruiting bodies, called stipe blow‐out, or totally deformed and undifferentiated masses of mushroom tissue, called dry bubble. The disease symptoms and severity depend on the time point of infection. Small necrotic lesions result from late infections on the fruiting bodies, whereas stipe blow‐out and dry bubble are the result of interactions between the pathogen and the host in the casing layer. Economic importance: Lecanicillium fungicola is a devastating pathogen in the mushroom industry and causes significant losses in the commercial production of its main host, Agaricus bisporus. Annual costs for mushroom growers are estimated at 2–4% of total revenue. Reports on the disease originate mainly from North America and Europe. Although China is the main producer of white‐button mushrooms in the world, little is known in the international literature about the impact of dry bubble disease in this region. Control: The control of L. fungicola relies on strict hygiene and the use of fungicides. Few chemicals can be used for the control of dry bubble because the host is also sensitive to fungicides. Notably, the development of resistance of L. fungicola has been reported against the fungicides that are used to control dry bubble disease. Analysis of commercial strains of two edible mushrooms, Pleurotus ostreatus and Agaricus bisporus, using PCR and isozyme electrophoresis techniques allowed us to differentiate groups of genetically similar and distant strains. Among the commercial strains of P. ostreatus, the level of genetic variation was higher suggesting a broader genetic basis employed in breeding of this mushroom. The cultivars and hybrids of, A. bisporus, showed a higher level of homology. The isozyme markers (nonspecific esterase, leucinaminopeptidase, and phosphoglucoisomerase) are recommended for identification of the commercial strains of edible mushrooms.  相似文献

Bacillus thuringiensis 656-3, isolated from a soil sample collected at mushroom houses, showed high toxicity to mushroom flies, Lycoriella mali and Coboldia fuscipes. B. thuringiensis 656-3 produced bipyramidal inclusions and reacted with the H antiserum of B. thuringiensis subsp. morrisoni (H8a8b). The plasmid and protein profiles of B. thuringiensis 656-3 were similar to those of its reference strain, subsp. morrisoni PG-14. However, PCR analysis using cry gene primers showed that B. thuringiensis 656-3, unlike its reference strain, had cry4A, cry4B, cry10A, cry11A, and cry1Ac genes, suggesting that B. thuringiensis 656-3 was a unique strain with respect to gene type. In addition, B. thuringiensis 656-3 showed a high level of toxicity against mushroom flies, L. mali and C. fuscipes.  相似文献

蘑菇氨酸曾被怀疑具有潜在的致癌效应,但其生理作用目前还存在争议.为比较分析我国不同地区双孢蘑菇中蘑菇氨酸含量,本研究采用反相高效液相色谱法检测了我国5个双孢蘑菇产区30份新鲜双孢蘑菇样品中蘑菇氨酸的含量.结果显示,我国双孢蘑菇中蘑菇氨酸含量范围较广,为155.6~934.4mg/kg FW.在此基础上,分析了菌株类型、培养料类型和采收季节等因素对蘑菇氨酸含量的影响.结果表明,不同菌株、不同栽培条件下生产的双孢蘑菇中蘑菇氨酸的含量差异明显.  相似文献

Analysis of sexual selection and sexual isolation in Drosophila mojavensis and its relatives has revealed a pervasive role of rearing substrates on adult courtship behavior when flies were reared on fermenting cactus in preadult stages. Here, we assessed expression of contact pheromones comprised of epicuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) from eclosion to 28 days of age in adults from two populations reared on fermenting tissues of two host cacti over the entire life cycle. Flies were never exposed to laboratory food and showed significant reductions in average CHC amounts consistent with CHCs of wild‐caught flies. Overall, total hydrocarbon amounts increased from eclosion to 14–18 days, well past age at sexual maturity, and then declined in older flies. Most flies did not survive past 4 weeks. Baja California and mainland populations showed significantly different age‐specific CHC profiles where Baja adults showed far less age‐specific changes in CHC expression. Adults from populations reared on the host cactus typically used in nature expressed more CHCs than on the alternate host. MANCOVA with age as the covariate for the first six CHC principal components showed extensive differences in CHC composition due to age, population, cactus, sex, and age × population, age × sex, and age × cactus interactions. Thus, understanding variation in CHC composition as adult D. mojavensis age requires information about population and host plant differences, with potential influences on patterns of mate choice, sexual selection, and sexual isolation, and ultimately how these pheromones are expressed in natural populations. Studies of drosophilid aging in the wild are badly needed.  相似文献

Agaricus subrufescens is a cultivated edible and medicinal mushroom. Its known geographical distribution encompasses the Americas, Europe, Oceania, and Asia. The objective of this study was to assess mating compatibility and interfertility of strains originating from Brazil, France, and Thailand. Progeny of each strain were analyed with codominant molecular markers. Multilocus genotype tests revealed that the three strains were amphithallic with percentages of heterokaryotic single spore progenies of 75 % for the Thai strain and around 40 % for the Brazilian and French strains. In mating tests A. subrufescens had a multiallelic unifactorial system of sexual incompatibility. The three parent strains were interfertile based on experimental pairings of single-spore isolates, the recovery of hybrid heterokaryons from compatible matings, and the ability of hybrids to produce mushrooms and fertile spores. This biological approach supports the inclusion of the European strains within the species and the extension of the geographical distribution range to Asia. Our data should help to develop breeding strategies and to better manage and exploit the diversity existing in A. subrufescens.  相似文献

Five edible Lentinula edodes strains were evaluated. The mushrooms were cultivated on a wheat straw substrate that was previously pasteurized by immersion in water heated by residual geothermal vapor, which was also used to warm incubation and production rooms. Finely chopped wheat straw (Triticum aestivum L.) was pasteurized and then spawned with supplemented spawn capable of supplying nutrients and enriching the substrate, with the expectation of yield improvement. The samples were incubated for 60 days before the production started and thus, the mushrooms produced had pileus diameters ranging from 5 to 20 cm. The yields fluctuated from 6.2 to 13.9 % (fresh weight of mushrooms/fresh weight of substrate). Biological efficiency ranged from 24.8 to 55.6 % (fresh weight of mushrooms/dry weight of substrate), while the production rate reached varied from 0.19 to 0.55 % (biological efficiency/production time starting from inoculation). The cultivation system evaluated here offers the possibility of lowering production costs by cultivating the mushroom on easily obtainable substrate and shortening the culture cycle. The efficiency of this use of geothermal energy and supplemented spawn for shiitake mushroom cultivation on non‐sterilized substrates was proven.  相似文献

The western cherry fruit fly, Rhagoletis indifferens Curran, infests introduced, domesticated sweet [Prunus avium (L.) L.], and tart cherries (Prunus cerasus L.) as well as native bitter cherry, Prunus emarginata (Douglas) Eaton. Bitter cherries are smaller than sweet and tart cherries and this could affect various life history traits of flies. The objectives of the current study were to determine 1) if body size and egg loads of flies infesting sweet, tart, and bitter cherries differ from one another; and 2) if any observed body size differences are genetically based or caused by the host fruit environment. Pupae and adults of both sexes reared from larval-infested sweet and tart cherries collected in Washington and Montana were larger than those reared from bitter cherries. In addition, flies of both sexes caught on traps in sweet and tart cherry trees were larger than those caught in bitter cherry trees and females trapped from sweet and tart cherry trees had 54.0-98.8% more eggs. The progeny of flies from naturally-infested sweet and bitter cherries reared for one generation in the laboratory on sweet cherry did not differ in size. The same also was true for progeny of sweet and bitter cherry flies reared in the field on bitter cherry. The results suggest that the larger body sizes of flies from sweet and tart cherries than bitter cherries in the field are caused by host fruit and not genetic factors.  相似文献
