The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of cell-specific mental imagery on neutrophil and lymphocyte cell counts. Subjects (N=30) were randomly assigned to one of two experimental groups that underwent a 6-week training program focusing on images of morphology, location, and movement of either neutrophils or lymphocytes. Music was used to enhance the imagery of the subjects. Peripheral white blood cell and differential counts were determined before and after the final 20-minute imagery session. Results indicated that neutrophils decreased significantly (p<.04) in the neutrophil-change group while lymphocytes did not. The reverse occurred in the lymphocyte-change group, with only the lymphocytes decreasing significantly (p<.03). The authors concluded that under the conditions of the present study, cell-specific imagery was associated with decreases in peripheral blood cell counts of lymphocytes and neutrophils.  相似文献

In 20 men, aged 35 to 55 years, with untreated cancer of the larynx activity of lysosomal acid phosphatase (AP), beta-glucuronidase (GR) and N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase was determined cytochemically in peripheral blood lymphocytes and neutrophils by means of Barka and Anderson, Hayashi et al. and Hayashi's method, respectively; the results obtained were compared with those in 20 healthy men aged 20 to 30 years. Total count of GR-positive lymphocytes was higher in the patients than in normal persons. Total counts of AP-, GR-, and GS-positive lymphocytes with not disrupted enzyme-positive lysosomal granules within the cell cytoplasm were significantly lower and total counts of cells exhibiting the disruption of lysosomal granules and the diffuse type of cytochemical reaction were significantly higher in the patients when compared with the control group. The response of neutrophils consisted of a significant elevation in numbers of AP-, and GS-positive cells; overall score of enzyme activity studied in neutrophils was not altered in the patients. The authors disucss the significance of their observations in the light of data on participation of lymphocytic and neutrophilic lysosomal apparatus in the immunological response against tumour specific antigen in patients with cancer.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of a 50-year study on the state of hemopoiesis in the Techa riverside residents chronically exposed to radiation in the range from low to intermediate doses. The highest bone marrow doses were attributable to intakes of osteotropic 9OSr with drinking water and local food products. During the period of maximum radiation exposures (1951-1953) exposed residents were manifesting decreased counts of peripheral blood leukocytes (neutrophils and lymphocytes) and thrombocytes. Normal counts of erythrocytes were maintained owing to the effect of sufficient compensatory mechanisms, including accelerated rates of erythrocaryocyte proliferation and maturation. The development of peripheral blood granulocytopenia was influenced by the delay in the differentiation of neutrophilic bone-marrow granulocytes at the myelocyte phase, a marked increase in the frequency of lethal abnormalities in bone-marrow neutrophils, and pathological mitoses. The period of normalization of the blood cell composition was significantly variable for different blood cell series, and was noted to depend on exposure dose rate, extent of the primary hemopoiesis inhibition and specific physiological characteristics of exposed individuals.  相似文献

Summary Laboratory mice, offspring of CB6 F1 s, were maintained at a constant temperature of 21.0 ± 1.0° C and in constant light (LL) of 40 lux or under 12 h of light (40 lux) alternating with 12 h of darkness (LD) for 8 consecutive days. During the following 36 h, tail blood was secured from each mouse at 6-h intervals. From those samples, a differential white blood cell count, based on 100 leukocytes, was made for each animal. The relative numbers of eosinophils, basophils, and monocytes did not fluctuate rhythmically under LL or LD. The per cent distributions of lymphocytes and neutrophils did vary with circadian frequency in both LL and LD (Figs. 1, 2) The peak counts of neutrophils were found in blood sampled near midnight; high counts of lymphocytes were made in smears prepared about 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  相似文献

Milk cell counts are good indicators of a mammary infection and milk quality. The present study was done to record diurnal rhythmicity in the milk somatic and differential cell counts during different seasons, milk strips and parity in Murrah buffaloes. Milk somatic cell counts (SCC) were measured by SCC counter and milk differential cell counts were measured microscopically after making a milk smear and staining it to identify neutrophils, lymphocytes and macrophages. Maximum milk SCC was observed in the summer season. Milk neutrophils were lowest during thermoneutral (TN), intermediate during the winter season and highest during the summer season. Milk lymphocytes were highest during the winter season, intermediate in the TN and lowest in the summer season. Diurnal rhythm in the milk SCC and neutrophil percentage is noticed in the summer season only. Maximum milk SCC values were observed in the late strip but neutrophils were highest in the early strip. Diurnal rhythm was observed in the late strip for neutrophils and in mid strip for the lymphocytes. Milk SCC and milk neutrophils were found to be the highest in the multiparous buffaloes and diurnal rhythm was observed only in the lymphocytes of primiparous buffaloes. Milk macrophages were higher in the morning samples of primiparous as compared to the multiparous buffaloes. In this pioneer study, diurnal rhythms in the milk cell counts of buffaloes have been studied extensively. This will help in maintaining low milk cell counts in buffalo and thus help in getting more milk per buffalo during stress periods.  相似文献

Complete and differential blood counts were conducted on 23 male squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) of Bolivian origin. The sample included 9 laboratory-bred and 14 wild-caught adult monkeys weighing between 600 and 1,500 g. The means of total white blood cell (WBC) counts, total hemoglobin and hematocrits of laboratory-bred animals were found to be significantly different from those of wild-caught monkeys (p less than 0.01). Other hematologic parameters showed no significant differences between the two experimental groups. 3 of 14 (21.0%) wild-caught animals each had 1 reactive lymphocyte and 7% of the same group had 10 nucleated erythrocytes per 100 WBC. No reactive lymphocytes or nucleated erythrocytes were observed in laboratory-bred animals. The importance of these baseline data and the basis for the differences observed between laboratory and wild-caught monkeys are discussed within the context of experimental studies involving primates in which hematologic parameters are valuable.  相似文献

Various immunological parameters were studied in 20 asymptomatic patients with hemophilia A, 3 patients with hemophilia B and 1 patient with von Willebrand disease. Patients were treated with cryoprecipitate or fresh frozen plasma. Significantly decreased mean percentage and absolute count (p less than 0.01) of peripheral blood E-rosette-forming cells compared to controls was found. There were normal mean percentages and absolute counts of lymphocytes, T-helper inducer, T-suppressor cytotoxic and natural killer cells. The proportion and absolute number of B cells was slightly increased. Significantly decreased natural killer cell activity (p = 0.02) of peripheral blood lymphocytes was observed. Our results indicate that asymptomatic patients with hemophilia may have early evidence of immunodeficiency.  相似文献

Halothane is an important human and veterinary anesthetic, which produces free radicals during biotransformation. Occasionally, these free radicals may cause hepatic injury, especially in case of multiple halothane exposures over short periods. Vitamin C may protect cellular lipids and lipoproteins against oxidative damage by the free radicals. This study investigated the effects of vitamin C on liver enzymes and other biochemical parameters in rats anesthetized with halothane. One group of rats was used as a control, and saline (0.9% NaCl) was injected intraperitoneally into these animals as a placebo. The second group of rats was used as an anesthesia control group and was only anesthetized by halothane for 2 h. The third group was anesthetized by halothane and injected vitamin C intraperitoneally. Activities of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase enzymes were significantly increased (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, p < 0.05, respectively) by halothane anesthesia, but decreased (p < 0.05, p < 0.05, p < 0.05, respectively) with administration of vitamin C. Concentrations of triglycerides, cholesterol, total bilirubin and creatinine were statistically affected (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, p < 0.05, and p < 0.01, respectively) by injection of vitamin C. Values of erythrocyte counts, packet cell volumes, hemoglobin concentration, leukocyte counts, rates of neutrophils and lymphocytes were significantly affected (p < 0.01, p < 0.05, p < 0.05, p < 0.01, p < 0.001 and p < 0.01, respectively) by halothane anesthesia. The values of erythrocyte counts, leukocyte counts, neutrophil and lymphocyte rates were significantly decreased (p < 0.05, p < 0.05, p < 0.05, p < 0.01 and p < 0.01, respectively) with administration of vitamin C. Based upon these results, vitamin C may play an important role in the prevention of hepatic cellular injury inflicted by halothane anesthesia.  相似文献

Pemphigus vulgaris is a rare dermatosis of autoimmune origin, characterized by autoantibodies directed against intercellular substance (AICS) and presenting with intra-epidermal blisters and/or erosions of the skin and mucous membranes. The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationships between serum AICS titers (after log transformation) and: patients' age, disease duration and disease activity; serum cytokine (IL-6, IL-7, IL-15 and TNF-alpha) concentrations and peripheral blood cell counts (namely neutrophils, lymphocytes and natural killer cells). Fifteen consecutive subjects affected with PV were enrolled. Diagnosis was supported by histological examination as well as by direct and indirect immunofluorescence tests. Cytokine determinations were made by means of commercially available ELISA kits. This study shows for the first time that AICS titers have a significant correlation with age of PV patients (R=0.57, p=0.031) and with the disease duration (R=0.73, p=0.002). A correlation between blood neutrophils count and log (AICS) titres was observed (R=0.6, p=0.021). Furthermore, significant correlations were observed between log (AICS) titres and serum IL-15 (R=0.54, p=0.048), serum IL-6 (R=0.53, p=0.05) or serum TNF-alpha concentrations (R=0.53, p=0.05). These data, taken together, show that there are several connections between the log (AICS) titres, some proinflammatory cytokines, peripheral blood neutrophil counts and the numbers of individuals' lesions, suggesting a relationship between AICS production and lesion development.  相似文献

Recent reports indicate that ovariectomy (ovx) increases lymphopoiesis. Ipriflavone, a synthetic isoflavone, has been reported to reduce lymphocytes in postmenopausal women. The aim of this study was to investigate whether naturally occurring isoflavones also affect lymphopoiesis in ovarian hormone deficiency. The present study was carried out using an ovariectomized (ovx) rat model. To mimic early menopause, forty-eight 12-month-old Sprague-Dawley rats were either sham-operated (sham; 1 group) or ovx (3 groups) and were fed a standard semi-purified diet for 120 days. Thereafter, the ovx groups received one of the three doses of isoflavones: 0 (ovx), 500 (ISO500), or 1000 (ISO1000) mg/kg diet for 100 days. Ovariectomy increased total leukocyte counts significantly (p < 0.05) as a result of increased (p < 0.05) lymphocyte, monocyte, eosinophil, and basophil differential counts. Isoflavones at 500 and 1000 mg/kg diet returned the total leukocyte counts, as well as leukocyte subpopulations, to levels comparable to that of sham-operated rats. No other hematological parameters, e.g., red blood cell counts or red cell indices, were affected by ovariectomy or isoflavones. We conclude that soy isoflavones restore normal leukocyte counts elevated in ovarian hormone deficiency.  相似文献

Basic biomedical data from 164 neonates of four species of the tribe Hippotragini, addax (Addax nasomaculatus), scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah), Arabian oryx (Oryx leucoryx), and sable antelope (Hippotragus niger), were compared at one zoological institution over a 9-year period. Measured biomedical parameters included body weight, temperature, pulse and respiratory rates, packed cell volume (PCV), total plasma protein, glucose, IgG assessment via zinc sulfate turbidity, and white blood cell count with differential. All species were maintained in a semi-free ranging setting with the same diet, available shelter, and opportunity for social interaction. Based on clinical and field observations, all neonates used in the study were believed to be at least 24 hr old, to have bonded with the dam, and to have no obvious physical abnormalities. Median body weights were similar only in the addax and Arabian oryx with sable antelope having the largest median body weight. No significant differences in rectal temperatures or pulse rates were found among species. Median respiratory rates were similar between certain groups. Arabian oryx and scimitar-horned oryx shared the highest packed cell volumes while the sable antelope had the lowest. Sable antelope had the highest median total plasma protein with no significant differences among the other species. Sable were also significantly lower in median blood glucose than the three other Hippotraginae. Zinc sulfate turbidities in all species were similar. Addax had higher median total white blood cell counts than sable. No significant differences in the median numbers of segmented neutrophils, band neutrophils, and eosinophils were detected among species. Basophils were only found in the scimitar-horned oryx in one animal. Addax had higher median lymphocyte counts than sable and Arabian oryx as well as higher median monocyte counts than sable. All four species exhibited higher median counts of neutrophils compared with lymphocytes. 为了研究濒危鱼类稀有白甲鱼(Onychostoma rara)外周血细胞的特征,以采自长江中游沅江水系清水江共计21尾稀有白甲鱼的血液为材料,采用常规方法对稀有白甲鱼外周血细胞的组成、形态、大小和数量进行了观测。结果显示,稀有白甲鱼红细胞数量为(1.75±0.44)×106 个/ L,白细胞数量为(4.91±1.95)×105 个/ L。在血涂片上共计观察到了5种白细胞,包括淋巴细胞、血栓细胞、单核细胞、嗜中性粒细胞和嗜酸性粒细胞,没有发现嗜碱性粒细胞。其5种白细胞数量比例差异较大,其数量比例关系为:淋巴细胞>血栓细胞>嗜中性粒细胞>单核细胞>嗜酸性粒细胞。这5种白细胞的大小也有所不同,其大小关系为:单核细胞>嗜中性粒细胞>嗜酸性粒细胞>淋巴细胞>血栓细胞。与已报道的鱼类相比,稀有白甲鱼白细胞的数量明显较高,红细胞数量较多、体积相对较小,可能与其适应流水生活相关。  相似文献

As little comprehensive baseline data are available on age-related haematological changes in genetically-defined rat strains, the haematology of female F344 rats is described in animals sampled at 2, 4, 8, 20, 66 and 121 weeks of age. Values for Hb, RBC and PCV increased from 2 weeks of age to reach adult levels at 8 weeks, whereas MCV, MCH and reticulocyte counts were high initially but decreased to reach the adult range at 8 weeks. Between 66 and 121 weeks, reticulocyte counts were significantly increased and values for MCHC significantly decreased. Lymphocytes were the predominant white cell type in each age group. The absolute numbers of neutrophils and lymphocytes showed slight variations between 2 and 66 weeks and both cell types increased significantly between 66 and 121 weeks. Platelet counts showed no overall age-related trends. Fibrinogen values increased from 2 weeks of age to reach the adult level at 8 weeks. One animal of the 14 sampled at 121 weeks showed changes in the blood, liver and spleen consistent with a diagnosis of lymphoid leukaemia.  相似文献

Objective

High concentrations of leukocytes in blood have been associated with diabetes mellitus. This prospective study aimed to explore whether total and differential leukocyte counts are associated with incidence of diabetes. A missense variant R262W in the SH2B3 (SH2B adaptor protein 3) gene, coding for a protein that negatively regulates hematopoietic cell proliferation, was also studied in relation to incidence of diabetes.

Methods and Results

Leukocyte count and its subtypes (neutrophils, lymphocytes and mixed cells) were analyzed in 26,667 men and women, 45–73 years old, from the population-based Malmö Diet and Cancer study. Information about the R262W polymorphism (rs3184504) in SH2B3 was genotyped in 24,489 subjects. Incidence of diabetes was studied during a mean follow-up of 14 years. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to examine incidence of diabetes by total and differential leukocyte counts. Mendelian randomization analysis using R262W as an instrumental variable was performed with two-stage least squares regression. A total of 2,946 subjects developed diabetes during the follow-up period. After taking several possible confounders into account, concentrations of total leukocyte count, neutrophils and lymphocytes were all significantly associated with incidence of diabetes. The adjusted hazard ratios (95% confidence interval; quartile 4 vs quartile 1) were 1.37 (1.22–1.53) for total leukocytes, 1.33 (1.19–1.49) for neutrophils and 1.29 (1.15–1.44) for lymphocytes. The R262W polymorphism was strongly associated with leukocytes (0.11x109 cells/l per T allele, p = 1.14 x10-12), lymphocytes (p = 4.3 x10-16), neutrophils (p = 8.0 x10-6) and mixed cells (p = 3.0 x10-6). However, there was no significant association between R262W and fasting glucose, HbA1c or incidence of diabetes.

Conclusions

Concentrations of total leukocytes, neutrophils and lymphocytes are associated with incidence of diabetes. However, the lack of association with the R262W polymorphism suggests that the associations may not be causal, although limitations in statistical power and balancing pleiotropic effects cannot be excluded.  相似文献

目的探讨苏丹红对小白鼠血液和组织器官的影响。方法取小鼠连续12 d腹腔注射不同剂量苏丹红Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ、Ⅳ(0、40、80、160 mg/kg),末次给药24 h后采集血样,用血细胞分析仪检测血常规指标,毛细血管法测定凝血时间,剖腹取主要器官称重,计算脏器系数。结果苏丹红Ⅰ和Ⅱ组血液红细胞数明显减少,而苏丹红Ⅲ和Ⅳ组不明显,苏丹红不同剂量之间比较,低剂量苏丹红Ⅰ和高剂量苏丹红Ⅱ组比苏丹红Ⅲ和Ⅳ组血液红细胞数变化明显;苏丹红Ⅰ和Ⅱ组血液血红蛋白含量明显降低,而苏丹红Ⅲ和Ⅳ组血红蛋白含量变化不明显。四种不同剂量苏丹红组小鼠血液中血小板数量减少,随着剂量增加小鼠血液凝固时间延长。随着苏丹红剂量增加,苏丹红I和II组小鼠血液白细胞数比对照组明显增加,苏丹红Ⅲ和Ⅳ组白细胞数有增加趋势但差异不显著。与对照组比较,苏丹红组小鼠血液白细胞数明显增加、而淋巴细胞和单核细胞显著减少。随着苏丹红注射剂量增加,肾脏和脾脏脏器系数较对照组明显增大,肝脏脏器系数变化不明显。结论苏丹红对小鼠血液细胞、血红蛋白、血小板和凝血时间以及组织器官都有不同程度影响。  相似文献

During voluntary hyperventilation an increase in the lymphocyte and thrombocyte counts occurs, paralleled by an increase in plasma epinephrine and norepinephrine. All these changes are rapidly reversible after hyperventilation and are followed by an increase in the neutrophil granulocyte count. The pathophysiological mechanisms of these changes were investigated by comparison of the hyperventilation-induced changes of the blood picture in 11 normal, 9 splenectomized and 12 beta-blocked volunteers. Splenectomy did not affect the hyperventilation-induced mobilization of lymphocytes and neutrophils but totally suppressed the change in the thrombocyte count. beta-blockade by 80 mg propranolol did not suppress the hyperventilation-induced increase in neutrophils. It reduced the absolute increase of lymphocytes and thrombocytes by half, but it also increased the baseline counts of these cells. The study shows that hyperventilation mobilizes thrombocytes from the spleen but not from extralienal pools, and that lymphocytes and neutrophils are mobilized from extralienal pools. Whereas neutrophil mobilization is not suppressed by beta-blockade, the reduction of hyperventilation-induced mobilization of lymphocytes and thrombocytes may be due to a reduction in the size of the mobilizable cell pools, and therefore cannot be interpreted as a sure indication that adrenergic mechanisms are involved in their hyperventilation-induced mobilization.  相似文献

Biofeedback-assisted relaxation: effects on phagocytic capacity   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether subjects who self-report high levels of stress have lower immunity, and whether "low"-immunity subjects under "high" stress could enhance phagocytic activity through biofeedback-assisted relaxation (BAR). During Phase 1, the level of stress and the level of phagocytic immune functioning (nitroblue tetrazolium test) were assessed as "high" or "low." Significant chi-square analysis (chi 2 = 3.8624, df = 1, p less than .05) showed that subjects with "high" stress had "low" immunity. Sixteen "high"-stress, "low"-immunity subjects were randomly assigned to BAR and control groups during Phase 2. Following treatment, NBT changes showed significant increases (F = 11.11, p less than .003) for experimental group as compared to control group. White blood cell count and white blood cell differential were unchanged across blood samples for both groups. Experimental subjects reported significant decreases in tension-anxiety and increases in overall coping. BAR was concluded to have improved coping skills and phagocytic capacity. BAR affected the quality, rather than the quantity, of phagocytic neutrophils.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown that mice infected i.v. with 6 X 10(5) yeast phase Histoplasma capsulatum (Hc) develop suppressed immune responses during weeks 1 to 4 of infection but that by weeks 8 to 12 of infection these responses return to normal. In this study total and differential cell counts showed that as early as the third day of infection there was a marked reduction in the number of lymphocytes recovered from the peripheral blood, bone marrow, and thymus of infected animals. Concomitantly, there was an increase in the number of splenic lymphocytes. By day 28 both the total and differential cell counts were similar in both infected and normal animals. Flow microfluorometric (FMF) studies comparing the Thy-1.2, Lyt-1, Lyt-2, and surface immunoglobulin (slg) phenotypes of lymphocytes from normal and infected mice were performed. Between days 5 and 7 the thymocytes from infected mice displayed a higher relative fluorescence intensity (RFI) of the Thy-1.2 marker than normal thymocytes, whereas at day 10, the RFI was less than that of normal thymic lymphocytes. Between days 7 and 10 of infection the RFI of the Lyt-2 marker was less on thymocytes from Hc-infected mice; however, there was no change in the Lyt-1 marker. Examination of these lymphocyte markers in blood, spleen, and mesenteric lymph nodes showed that there were decreases in the RFI of both the Thy-1.2 and Lyt-2 between days 5 and 10 of infection. No changes were observed in the Lyt-1 or slg markers. By day 28 there were no differences between the normal and infected mice with respect to any surface marker in any of the organs studied. In other experiments, the effect of adrenalectomy before infection on these surface markers was studied. Absolute numbers of Thy-1.2+, Lyt-1+, and Lyt-2+ cells were significantly increased in the spleen and significantly decreased in the thymus and peripheral blood of infected mice relative to normal controls. These studies suggest that there is a migration of cells from the thymus, blood, and bone marrow to the spleens of mice with disseminated Hc infection.  相似文献

The goal of the study was to assess the state of immunity in exposed residents of the Techa riverside villages 50 years, or more, after the onset of radiation exposure. 127 chronically exposed persons and 55 unexposed persons were studied. The mean dose to red bone marrow (RBM) was 0.69 Sv in exposed subjects, the mean dose to soft tissue was 0.07 Sv, the mean dose rate amounted to 0.10 Sv/yr to RBM and 0.02 Sv/yr to soft tissues in 1950. The state of the basic links of the immunity system (cellular, humoral, mononuclear phagocyte system, cytokine spectrum, etc.) was assessed using conventional methods. Exposed persons manifested a significant reduction in the absolute counts of CD3+, CD4+, CD 11b+, CD16+ lymphocytes in the peripheral blood, as well as an increase in the relative counts of CD8+. The group comprised of the Techa riverside residents demonstrated an increased immunoregulatory index (exposed individuals: 1.47; controls: 1.71, p = 0.001). An increased production of Immunoglobulin A and increased proportions of CD25+ lymphocytes were revealed in exposed individuals. Changes in the phagocytic activity of neutrophils and monocytes were insignificant, and were primarily associated with changes in the proportions of pagocytes in the peripheral blood stream. The state of the immunity in chronically exposed individuals at late time after the begin of exposure is characterized by a number of specific features reflected primarily on the cellular immunity. No relationship between immunity changes and accumulated exposure dose and dose rate were noted over the period of maximum radiation exposures (1950).  相似文献

Brown Norway rats were immunized with gluten, and then fed a diet containing hypoallergenic flour or an amino acid mixture. The rats were then made to inhale a solubilized gluten to induce gluten-specific bronchial asthma. The antibody levels in the serum of rats were measured by ELISA, and cell counts were done on cytospin preparations of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Body weight was decreased after allergen challenge in rats fed the amino acid mixture but not in rats fed the hypoallergenic flour. Antibody levels in the serum were significantly lower in rats fed hypoallergenic flour than in those fed the amino acid mixture. Differential cell counts in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid showed that the numbers of eosinophils, lymphocytes, and neutrophils were significantly lower in rats fed the hypoallergenic flour than in those fed the amino acid mixture. These results suggest that hypoallergenic flour actively suppresses the allergic reactions, probably by inducing oral tolerance.  相似文献
