Aluminum in lake water and in the organs of the fish Tribolodon hakonensis was investigated in Lake Usoriko (pH 3.6), Lake Inawashiroko (pH 5.0), and the Tenryu River (pH 7.7). The concentration of total soluble aluminum in the water was 0.51 mg l−1 in Usoriko, 0.05 mg l−1 in Inawashiroko, and less than 0.01 mg l−1 in the Tenryu. The chemical forms of soluble aluminum in the acid water were characterized as Al3+, AlL2+, and AlL≦1+. More than 90% of soluble aluminum in the water of Usoriko was Al3+, whereas AlL2+ was dominant in the water of Inawashiroko. The aluminum concentration in the organs of T. hakonensis in Usoriko was 42 μg g−1 wet weight in gills, 4.2 μg g−1 in muscle, 6.9 μg g−1 in bone, 12.7 μg g−1 in liver, 6.0 μg g−1 in kidney, and 6.0 μg g−1 in intestine, indicating accumulation of aluminum in the gills. The aluminum concentration in the organs of T. hakonensis living in Inawashiroko was approximately the same, in spite of the difference in water chemistry of the two acid lakes, especially for pH and aluminum. This suggests that aluminum accumulation might be controlled in the fish living in the acid lakes. In contrast, the aluminum concentration in the gills of T. hakonensis from the Tenryu was 2 μg g−1. Different volumesof dead-space gas were collected and analyzed for nitric oxide (NO)content, either immediately after inspiration or after a period ofbreath holding on clean air or NO mixtures. This allowed calculation ofNO equilibrium, NO production, and NO absorption. In seven young,healthy, adult nonsmokers, the mean NO equilibrium values in parts perbillion (ppb) were 56 ± 11 (SE) in the trachea, 37 ± 6 in thebronchi, 21 ± 3 in the bronchioles, and 16 ± 2 in therespiratory bronchioles. At any given NO concentration, the NOabsorption rate (in nl/min) equaled the NO concentration (in ppb) timesA (the absorption coefficient inl/min). A values (in l/min) were 0.11 ± 0.01 in the trachea, 0.17 ± 0.04 in the bronchi, 0.66 ± 0.09 in the bronchioles, and 1.35 ± 0.32 in the respiratorybronchioles. NO equilibrium concentrations and production rates in one74-yr-old subject were three to five times as high as those found inthe young subjects. Mouth equilibrium NO concentrations were 3 and 6 parts per million in two subjects who had oral production rates of 6 and 23 nl/min, respectively. In conclusion, production and absorptionof NO occur throughout the first 450 ml of the airways.

Objective

The aim of this study was to detect the effects of varying tissue sizes on the efficiency of baboon ovarian tissue vitrification.

Study design

The percentages of morphologically normal primordial follicles and the follicles expressing bax protein in ovarian tissues after vitrification–warming were measured. Besides, the 17-β estradiol levels in the culture supernatants were measured.

Results

The percentages of morphologically normal primordial follicles in vitrified–warmed ovarian tissues slicing in 0.5–1.5 mm in length and wide, and 1.0 mm in thickness were significantly higher than those slicing in 2.0 mm in length and wide, and 1.0 mm in thickness. Moreover, the follicles expressing bax protein in vitrified–warmed ovarian tissues slicing in 0.5–1.5 mm in length and wide, and 1.0 mm in thickness were significantly lower than those slicing in 2.0 mm in length and wide, and 1.0 mm in thickness. The 17-β estradiol levels in the culture supernatants slicing in 1.0–1.5 mm in length and wide, and 1.0 mm in thickness were significantly higher than those slicing in 0.5 mm or 2.0 mm in length and wide, and 1.0 mm in thickness.

Conclusions

Cortex piece slicing in 1.0–1.5 mm in length and wide, and 1.0 mm in thickness is suitable for baboon ovarian vitrification.  相似文献

Resumen En 244 autopsias de los años 1961, 1962 y 1963 de sujetos de más de 2 años de edad fué encontrado un 25% de casos con lesiones histoplasmóticas, en su gran mayoría de carácter residual, en pulmones y ganglios linfáticos. Esta cifra corresponde exactamente al porcentaje de reactores positivos a la prueba de histoplasmina en la población de nuestra región. Fueron corroborados los resultados deStraub &Schwarz, quienes en Cincinnati/Ohio encontraron la misma concomitancia entre los resultados de estos métodos de estudio, ambos igualmente valiosos para determinar el indice epidemiológico de histoplasmosis en una zona determinada.Puesto que en nuestros estudios no fueron aplicadas las mismas técnicas completas como en Cincinnati las cifras positivas en nuestro ambiente pueden eventualmente ser más altas, pero no alcanzan las cifras aún más elevadas, reportadas de otras zonas de Venezuela. En nuestro material el número de casos con lesiones histoplasmóticas antiguas múltiples en el pulmón, que sugieren ser primarios, era mayor que en la primera serie deStraub &Schwarz. Parece que entre nosotros la infección tiene lugar en períodos más tempranos de la vida que en EEUU de Norteamérica.El más alto índice de infección, de casi 50%, fué encontrado en personas provenientes de la región de la Cuenca del Lago de Maracaibo, disminuyendo algo en los valles de baja altura de las montañas y llegando a cifras bajas en los lugares de mayor altura.
Summary In 244 autopsies in patients from 2 years of age on, in 1961, 1962 and 1963 histoplasmic lesions were found in 25% of all cases, mostly residual foci in lungs and lymph nodes. This percentage is exactly the same as the percentage of histoplasmin sensitivity in our environment. Thus, the results ofStraub &Schwarz who found the same percentage of anatomic lesions and histoplasmin reactors in Cincinnati, Ohio, were confirmed in our material. Morphologic methods in autopsies are a valuable tool for epidemiologic investigations regarding histoplasmosis.Since a more exact technique of examination was applied in Cincinnati, it is probable that the positive percentage in our environment is even higher. A higher number of multiple residual histoplasmotic foci in the lungs was found in our series in comparison with the first material ofStraub &Schwarz. Multiple histoplasmic foci in some of these cases may be due to primary infection. Infection withH. capsulatum occurs apparently in our environment more frequently in younger persons.The highest infection rate of almost 50% was found in patients who lived in the tropical lowlands near the Lake of Maracaibo and the Panamerican Highway. A lower rate occurred in the mountain valleys up to approximately 3000 feet of altitude, and decreased even more in higher altitudes.

Zusammenfassung In 244 Sektionen vom 2. Lebensjahr an aus den Jahren 1961, 1962 und 1963 wurde in 25% aller Fälle Histoplasmose in Form von Residualläsionen in Lungen und Lymphknoten gefunden. Diese Zahl entspricht genau dem Prozentsatz der Bevölkerung in unserer Gegend, die positiv auf Histoplasmin reagiert. Damit werden die Befunde vonStraub &Schwarz, die an Autopsien in Cincinnati, Ohio erhoben wurden, bestätigt. Neben der Histoplasminreaktion ist es auch mittels anatomischer Untersuchungen möglich, Aussagen über das Ausmass der Infektion mitHistoplasma capsulatum in einer bestimmten Gegend zu machen.Da bei den Untersuchungen in Cincinnati genauere Untersuchungsmethoden zur Anwendung kamen, ist es möglich, dass der Prozentsatz unserer positiven Fälle eher noch höher liegt. Die Zahl unserer Fälle mit multiplen residualen Histoplasmoseherden in den Lungen ist noch höher als in der ersten Untersuchungsserie vonStraub &Schwarz. Es könnte sich in einem Teil der Fälle durchaus um multiple Primärkomplexherde handeln. Anscheinend findet die Infektion mitH. capsulatum bei uns in früheren Lebensaltern statt.Die höchste Infektionsrate von fast 50% wurde in Personen aus den gegen den Maracaibosee zu gelegenen tropischen Gebieten gefunden. Sie war etwas geringer in den Gebirgstälern bis zu etwa 1000 m Höhe und gering in Gebieten grösserer Höhe.

ABSTRACT. 1. Daily patterns of activity, thoracic temperature (Tth) and thermoregulatory behaviour in relation to environmental conditions were studied in the European skipper Thymelicus lineola (Ochsenheimer) adults. 2. Daily activity was limited mainly by Tth, which in turn was dependent on air temperature (Ta) and sunlight. However, when light intensity fell to < 100 W m?2, skippers also became inactive. 3. Tth was sometimes as much as 12°C above Ta, and this was most pronounced under cool conditions when basking activity predominated. 4. Black globe temperature (Tbg) which, in the absence of wind, is influenced by both Ta, and radiant heat load in a manner similar to a basking butterfly, was used to approximate the maximum Tth attained by T.lineola through basking. 5. Both males and females basked at Tbg >20°C, and if this temperature was not attained, skippers remained inactive. As Tbg increased, basking activity declined more rapidly in males than in females. Basking bouts were also shorter in males. 6. Males also flew, fed and courted females at Tbg >20°C, while females only fed and flew at Tbg >22°C. The percentage of both sexes feeding and flying, and courting in the case of males, were positively correlated with Tbg. 7. In warm weather, males divided their time equally between flying and feeding, while females spent the majority of their time feeding. Feeding bouts were shorter and flying bouts were longer in males than in females. Flight duration in males was positively correlated with Tbg. 8. Skippers avoided, and, consequently laid fewer eggs in, shady areas. 9. Sexual differences in activity patterns in relation to weather reflect differences in the reproductive requirements of the two sexes.  相似文献

The genetic mechanisms underlying fruit development have been identified in Arabidopsis and have been comparatively studied in tomato as a representative of fleshy fruits. However, comparative expression and functional analyses on the bHLH genes downstream the genetic network, ALCATRAZ (ALC) and SPATULA (SPT), which are involved in the formation of the dehiscence zone in Arabidopsis, have not been functionally studied in the Solanaceae. Here, we perform detailed expression and functional studies of ALC/SPT homologs in Nicotiana obtusifolia with capsules, and in Capsicum annuum and Solanum lycopersicum with berries. In Solanaceae, ALC and SPT genes are expressed in leaves, and all floral organs, especially in petal margins, stamens and carpels; however, their expression changes during fruit maturation according to the fruit type. Functional analyses show that downregulation of ALC/SPT genes does not have an effect on gynoecium patterning; however, they have acquired opposite roles in petal expansion and have been co‐opted in leaf pigmentation in Solanaceae. In addition, ALC/SPT genes repress lignification in time and space during fruit development in Solanaceae. Altogether, some roles of ALC and SPT genes are different between Brassicaceae and Solanaceae; while the paralogs have undergone some subfunctionalization in the former they are mostly redundant in the latter.  相似文献

The influence of alternate bearing on nutrient utilization and total tree nutrient content was investigated in mature pistachio (Pistacia vera L. cv Kerman trees). Removal of N, P and Zn in fruit and abscised leaves of cropping (‘on’) trees averaged 5, 6, and 2 times, respectively, the removal in abscised leaflets of the non-fruiting, ‘off’ year trees. One hundred and thirty-five kg N, 131 kg K, 86 kg Ca, 39 kg Mg and 18 kg P per hectare were removed in fruits and abscised leaves in ‘on’ year trees. Tree nutrient contents and, presumably, the size of nutrient storage pools in dormant trees varied between ‘on’ and ‘off’ years. There was 22% and 14% more N and P, respectively, in dormant trees following ‘off’ than ‘on’ years. The greater N and P accumulation in ‘off’ year trees is depleted in support of the large fruit demand for N and P during ‘on’ years. In contrast to N and P, there was greater K and Ca accumulation in perennial tree parts during ‘on’ years than during ‘off’ years. The greater K accumulation in perennial tree parts and approximately 30% greater removal of K in annual organs during ‘on’ than ‘off’ years suggests that K uptake could be 4 times higher in ‘on’ year trees than in (non-cropping), ‘off’ year trees.  相似文献

研究了北京市区沿城乡梯度带河流底栖硅藻的空间分布及其季节变化特征。通过在2014年的春季、夏季和秋季在山区对照溪流、城市上游河道和城市下游河道3个样区,共23个样点进行了底栖硅藻样品采集。分析表明,主要优势种的空间差异明显。在对照溪流,主要优势种为极小曲丝藻(Achnanthidium minutissimum);在城市上游河道,主要优势种分别为短文假十字脆杆藻(Pseudostaurosira brevistriata)和连结十字脆杆藻腹面变种(Staurosira construens var.venter);在城市下游河道,主要优势种为谷皮菱形藻(Nitzschia palea)。然而,3个样区内的主要优势种相对丰度季节变化较小(P0.05)。其中,A.minutissimum及P.brevistriata的季节变化特征均为春季秋季夏季,而S.construens var.venter及N.palea的季节变化特征均为春季夏季秋季。结果发现,北京市城乡梯度带的河流硅藻种类组成差异较大,但主要优势属种季节变化相对较小,表明硅藻种类能较好地反映城乡梯度带的河流环境变化状况,可用于北京市河流水质生物监测。  相似文献

The physiological response of leaves developed in low light (L) on Fagus crenata seedlings exposed to different levels of high light (H: high light, M: medium light) was studied. Measurements were conducted on potted seedlings in the F. crenata forest understory. The seedlings with leaves developed in L were transferred to H (L–H) and M (L–M) in summer. On exposure to high light, the photochemical efficiency of dark-adapted PSII (Fv/Fm) immediately decreased and was followed by a subsequent recovery in both L–H and L–M leaves. The mean value of Fv/Fm in L–H leaves was lower than that in L–M leaves through experiments, indicating that the degree of photoinhibition in L–H leaves was greater than that in L–M leaves. About 1 month after transfer, 37% and 5% of leaves had fallen in L–H and L–M seedlings, respectively. This result also indicated the greater photoinhibition in L–H leaves. Moreover, the photosynthetic capacity (PNmax) of L–H leaves decreased. In contrast, the PNmax of L–M leaves increased, although the PNmax was lower than that of M control leaves. An increase in the xanthophyll cycle pool (VAZ), indicating an increase of the photoprotective function, was found in both L–H and L–M leaves. Especially, the VAZ pool in L–M leaves was higher than that in M leaves by the end of experiments. L–M leaves may avoid photoinhibition effectively by the decrease in excess light with the increase of the PNmax or VAZ pool, compared to L–H leaves. Thus, the physiological acclimation on exposure to high light depended on the degree of high light. To achieve successful photosynthetic acclimation with slight photoinhibition, the variation of light intensity before and after exposure to high light would be an important factor because of the difference in excess light.  相似文献

Ixodes ricinus Linnaeus (Acari: Ixodidae) ticks are vectors of numerous infectious diseases in humans and animals. The allozyme variability of MDH and α-Gpdh was detected by native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in I. ricinus natural populations in three localities in Serbia. Four alleles of Mdh locus (MDH 1, MDH 2, MDH 3 and MDH X) and four alleles of α-Gpdh locus (VS, S, F and VF) were detected. Interpopulation differences in Mdh and α-Gpdh allele frequencies were statistically insignificant. Significant difference in α-Gpdh allele frequencies between males and females was recorded in the largest sample only. Differences in allele frequencies, detected between borreliae-infected and uninfected I. ricinus ticks, were close to the level of statistical significance, especially for α-Gpdh locus. Clear significant difference appeared in females when sexes were tested separatelly (P = 0.037). It is interesting that genotypes containing rarer alleles (MDH 1 and S) were infected in higher proportion in comparison to other genotypes. Our results point towards a possible role of Mdh and α-Gpdh loci in I. ricinus ticks in the determination of energy requirements for host seeking. Sex differences in α-Gpdh allele frequencies suggest that selective pressure, concerning efficiency of reserve materials utilisation, points to α-Gpdh rather than to Mdh locus.  相似文献

以江西九连山国家自然保护区常绿阔叶林为对象,研究林分不同层次优势种受灾程度,分析物种海拔、坡度对受灾程度的影响。结果表明:乔木上层和中层树木以断稍为主,乔木下层树木以断稍和腰折为主,小树和幼树以压弯为主。在平均受损指数MDI(Mean Damage Index)方面,乔木上层米槠MDI值最高,拟赤杨最低; 乔木中层鸭公树MDI值最高,浙江新木姜子最低; 乔木下层米槠MDI值最高,浙江新木姜子最低; 小树米槠MDI值最高,细枝柃最低; 幼树二列叶柃MDI值最高,狗骨柴最低。海拔对不同林分层次树木的部分受损指标有显著影响(P<0.05); 整体上,不同林分层次树木的受损指标在700~760 m海拔生境高于640~700 m海拔生境。不同坡度生境下树木的受损指标均无显著差异(P>0.05)。  相似文献

Fish parasite communities have strong interactions with the environment, the host fish, and the aquatic invertebrate communities. Thus, factors directly involving their different life cycles, such as different host populations and environments, as well as seasonal fluctuations in water levels can cause different responses. The main factors structuring parasite communities may be the hydrodynamic variations, together with seasonal variations in the availability of infectious stages of parasites in the environment. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate the influence of the rainy and dry seasons on parasite infracommunities in fish species in the Amazon River System of Brazil. Between October 2009 and April 2011, specimens of Colossoma macropomum and Colossoma macropomum × Piaractus brachypomus hybrids (tambatinga) were examined for the presence of parasites. The parasite communities were similar in these two species that both showed aggregate dispersion, although the hybrid specimens were less parasitized. For both hosts, the Brillouin diversity, species richness, evenness and Berger‐Parker dominance indices were similar in the rainy season and dry season, except that the Berger‐Parker dominance index for the C. macropomum × P. brachypomus hybrid was higher during the dry season. Ichthyophthirius multifiliis was the dominant parasite, followed by Piscinoodinium pillulare, in both hosts. However, C. macropomum had a higher prevalence and abundance in the dry season, while in the C. macropomum × P. brachypomus hybrid, only the I. multifiliis prevalence increased. The abundance of monogenean species (Anacanthorus spathulatus, Linguadactyloides brinkmanni, Mymarothecium and Notozothecium janauachensis) was higher during the dry season in the gills of C. macropomum. Despite overdispersion of the lernaeid Perulernaea gamitanae, a seasonal pattern was seen only in the C. macropomum × P. brachypomus hybrid, with higher prevalence in the rainy season. The low prevalence and abundance of the ectoparasites Tetrahymena sp., Trichodina sp. and Braga patagonica, as well as of the endoparasites Procamallalus (Spirocamallanus) inopinatus and Neoechinorhynchus buttnerae, were not affected by seasonality. This information is applicable in farming practice for these economically important fish, as it indicates the best time for prophylactic management and treatment against parasites, in order to prevent economic losses in fish farms.  相似文献

A comparative study has been made of the mucogenic epidermis of the common carp, Cyprinus carpio var. communis, and the three Indian major carps, Catla catla, Labeo rohita and Cirrhina mrigala: on the basis of epidermis structural organization, these species are easily differentiated. The epithelial cells in the superficial layer, as in most fishes, show secretory activity, evidenced by positive histochemical reactions, which is high in C. carpio var. communis, moderate in C. catla and low in L. rohita and C. mrigala. The epithelial cells in the underlying two or three layers also give positive reactions, though their intensity is relatively weak. The mucous cells in C. carpio var. communis are distributed in large numbers arranged in several superimposed layers in the outer regions of the epidermis, whereas in C. catla they are fewer in number and are widely separated in the surface layers as well as in the deeper layers of the epidermis; in both species the mucous cells appear rounded, large, and open on the surface by wide pores. In contrast, in L. rohita and C. mrigala the mucous cells are smaller, restricted mainly to the superficial layer, close together in a single row, and open on the surface by narrow pores. The overall density of mucous cells in L. rohita and C. mrigala, as in C. catla, is much lower than in C. carpio var. communis. In the epidermis of C. carpio var. communis there are a large number of mucous cells, and the few club cells are restricted to the deeper layers. In contrast, in the epidermis of the three Indian major carp the overall density of the mucous cells is much lower and the club cells are very numerous. It is suggested that the high density of club cells compensates an overall low density of mucous cells as an adaptation for an effective defence mechanism. Increased mucus production in the epidermis of C. carpio var. communis, as evidenced by a large number of mucous cells in outer regions and high secretory activity of superficial layer epithelial cells, is associated with increased precipitation of mud held in suspension, needed as an adaptation to the species’peculiar bottom-scooping habits. The varied density of the taste buds in the epidermis of the four carp is associated with their feeding habits.  相似文献

An association between sperm DNA integrity and fertility was recently shown for frozen–thawed Norwegian Red (NRF) bull semen diluted in skimmed milk egg yolk (SMEY). In general the fertility of NRF cattle is high, however, in comparison with NRF semen in SMEY, NRF semen diluted in Tris EY based extenders has shown reduced fertility. The aim of the present study was to do a split-sample comparison of sperm DNA integrity of NRF bull semen (n = 20) in SMEY and Triladyl® (Tris EY based) during routine cryopreservation procedure and during in vitro incubation of frozen–thawed semen in modified synthetic oviduct fluid (mSOF). In contrast to the high fertility of NRF cattle, Holstein cattle are experiencing a marked decline in fertility. Therefore, the present study also aimed to compare sperm DNA integrity of NRF (n = 20) and Holstein (n = 20) semen diluted in Triladyl® during in vitro incubation. The sperm DNA integrity was measured by susceptibility to in situ acid induced denaturation by the Sperm chromatin structure assay (SCSA). Compared to initial values of frozen neat semen, an increase in DNA damage was observed after dilution and cooling (5 °C) and after freezing–thawing of NRF semen in SMEY, but only after freezing–thawing for NRF semen diluted in Triladyl®. Sperm DNA damage of NRF semen increased during in vitro incubation in mSOF; the increase in percentage of spermatozoa with DNA damage was more prominent in SMEY than in Triladyl®, while the degree of damage was higher in Triladyl®, throughout the incubation period. However, while the correlation between DNA damage and sperm survival was negative in SMEY throughout the incubation period, a positive correlation was observed in Triladyl® after 9 h of incubation, indicating a higher presence of DNA damage in the live sperm population. In comparison with Holstein spermatozoa, the sperm DNA integrity of NRF semen reflected a better ability to withstand alterations induced during in vitro incubation in mSOF. In conclusion, sperm DNA integrity of NRF bull semen was altered during the cryopreservation procedure and in vitro incubation in mSOF. Dilution in Triladyl® maintained bull sperm DNA integrity better than dilution in SMEY. Furthermore, alterations in Holstein sperm DNA integrity was more pronounced during in vitro incubation in mSOF compared to NRF bull spermatozoa.  相似文献

The levels of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides in suspensioncultures of Catharanthus roseus were determined 24 h after stationary-phasecells were transferred to fresh complete (‘+Pi’)or phosphate-deficient (‘–Pi’) Murashige-Skoogmedium. The levels of ATP, GTP, UTP and CTP were from approx.3 to 5-fold greater in the cells grown in ‘+Pi’medium than in the cells grown in ‘–Pi’ medium.The levels of almost all other nucleotides were slightly higherin the cells in ‘+Pi’ medium. The rates of de novoand salvage biosynthesis of purine and pyrimidine nucleotideswere estimated from the rates of incorporation of radioactivityfrom [14C]formate, [2–14C]glycine, NaH14CO3, [6–14C]orotate,[8–14C]adenine, [8–14C]adenosine, [2–14C]uraciland [2–14C]uridine. The results indicated that the activityof both the de novo and the salvage pathway was higher in thecells in ‘+Pi’ medium than in the cells in ‘–Pi’medium. The rate of degradation estimated from the rate of releaseof 14CO2 from labelled purines and pyrimidines indicated thatdegradation of uridine was significantly reduced in the cellsin ‘+Pi’ medium, but no significant difference wasfound in the degradation of adenine, adenosine and uracil. Thepossible role of Pi in the control of the biosynthesis of nucleotidesand in the degradation of uridine is discussed. Brain accumulation of neurotoxic amyloid β (Aβ) peptide because of increased processing of amyloid precursor protein (APP), resulting in loss of synapses and neurodegeneration, is central to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease (AD). Therefore, the identification of molecules that regulate Aβ generation and those that cause synaptic damage is crucial for future therapeutic approaches for AD. We demonstrated previously that COPS5 regulates Aβ generation in neuronal cell lines in a RanBP9-dependent manner. Consistent with the data from cell lines, even by 6 months, COPS5 overexpression in APΔE9 mice (APΔE9/COPS5-Tg) significantly increased Aβ40 levels by 32% (p < 0.01) in the cortex and by 28% (p < 0.01) in the hippocampus, whereas the increases for Aβ42 were 37% (p < 0.05) and 34% (p < 0.05), respectively. By 12 months, the increase was even more robust. Aβ40 levels increased by 63% (p < 0.001) in the cortex and by 65% (p < 0.001) in the hippocampus. Similarly, Aβ42 levels were increased by 69% (p < 0.001) in the cortex and by 71% (p < 0.011) in the hippocampus. Increased Aβ levels were translated into an increased amyloid plaque burden both in the cortex (54%, p < 0.01) and hippocampus (64%, p < 0.01). Interestingly, COPS5 overexpression increased RanBP9 levels in the brain, which, in turn, led to increased amyloidogenic processing of APP, as reflected by increased levels of sAPPβ and decreased levels of sAPPα. Furthermore, COPS5 overexpression reduced spinophilin in both the cortex (19%, p < 0.05) and the hippocampus (20%, p < 0.05), leading to significant deficits in learning and memory skills. Therefore, like RanBP9, COPS5 also plays a pivotal role in amyloid pathology in vivo.  相似文献

The ability to produce alkaloids has been studied in 13 strains belonging to ten species of the genus Penicillium. Most of these strains produce identical ranges of alkaloids when grown on wheat grain and synthetic Abe's medium. These are roquefortine, 3,12-dihydroroquefortine, and glandicolines A and B in strain P. chrysogenum VKM F-1987; fumigaclavines A and B, festuclavine, and pyroclavine in P. commune VKM F-308, F-3491, and KBP4; agroclavine 1 and epoxyagroclavine 1 in P. fellutanum VKM F-1073; fellutanine A in P. fellutanum F-3020; roquefortine, 3,12-dihydroroquefortine, meleagrin, and glandicolines A and B in P. glandicola VKM F-743; aurantioclavine in P. nalgiovense VKM F-229; isofumigaclavines A and B, festuclavine, roquefortine, and 3,12-dihydroroquefortine in P. roquefortii VKM F-2389; roquefortine, 3,12-dihydroroquefortine, and meleagrin in P. vitale VKM F-3624; roquefortine and oxaline in P. vulpinum VKM F-256; and -cyclopiazonic acid and rugulovasine B in P. viridicatum C-47. No alkaloids were found in P. rugulosum VKM F-352 grown on wheat grain. A simple method is proposed for isolating alkaloids from affected grain.  相似文献

Phylogenetic analysis of noncoding trnL plastid DNA sequences and morphological data for 43 species of Zygophylloideae, representing most of the morphological and geographical variation in the subfamily, indicates that the currently recognised genera Augea (monotypic, southern Africa), Tetraena (monotypic, China), and Fagonia (c. 30 species, widespread), are embedded in Zygophyllum (c. 150 species, widespread). A generic classification based on six monophyletic and morphologically distinctive entities is proposed: Roepera with c. 60 species in Australia and southern Africa, Zygophyllum with c. 50 species in Asia, Tetraena with c. 40 species in Africa and Asia, Augea with a single species in southern Africa, Melocarpum with two species in the Horn of Africa region, and Fagonia with c. 30 species in both the Old and the New World. Scanning electron microscopy studies of testa structure provided important characters for the delimitation of some genera. New combinations (61) are made in Roepera, a resurrected genus originally described from Australia, one new name is proposed in Zygophyllum, 35 new combinations are made in Tetraena, and two new combinations are made in Melocarpum (previously Zygophyllum sect.  Skeletal δ13C levels in symbiotic reef corals are believed to be predominantly influenced by metabolic fractionation. Therefore, environmental variables influencing coral metabolism should also affect skeletal δ13C levels. To test this hypothesis, we measured the effects of light (which drives photosynthesis) and relative zooplankton levels (heterotrophy) on skeletal δ13C values in the corals Pavona clavus and P. gigantea at two depths (1 m and 7 m). For both species, decreases in light or increases in zooplankton resulted in significant decreases in skeletal δ13C levels. A significant decrease in δ13C values with depth was observed in Pavona gigantea only. Thus, light and zooplankton directly affect coral skeletal δ13C values, supporting the hypothesis that metabolic fractionation significantly contributes to skeletal δ13C levels. Simultaneous decreases in both light and zooplankton resulted in decreases in skeletal δ13C values, reflecting decreases in light. In Pavona clavus, intra-annual variation in skeletal δ13C values over one year correlated with seasonal changes in irradiance. Further study is needed to resolve how skeletal δ13C values vary at intermediate levels of irradiance and zooplankton, and in other coral species. Accepted: 14 July 1998  相似文献
