Sewage sludges from 19 Polish municipal treatment plants were investigated. Lysimeter leaching experiments on sludges and on sludge-quartz sand mixtures were made. A variety of plants was sowed in the lysimeters and the leachates were collected. Harvested plants as well as leachates were analysed for Pb, Cu, Cd, Ni, Zn and Cr concentration. Removal coefficients were established to characterize the mobility of these metals from the sludges. The high values of the correlation coefficient for cadmium and nickel suggested that water solubility of metal salts is mainly responsible for their mobility. 相似文献

The aim of this work is to evaluate the adsorption performances of activated carbon derived from sewage sludge (ACSS) for gaseous formaldehyde removal compared with three commercial activated carbons (CACs) using self-designing adsorption and distillation system. Formaldehyde desorption of the activated carbons for regeneration was also studied using thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. The porous structure and surface characteristics were studied using N2 adsorption and desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results show that ACSS has excellent adsorption performance, which is overall superior to the CACs. Adsorption theory indicates that the ACSS outperforms the CACs due to its appropriate porous structure and surface chemistry characteristics for formaldehyde adsorption. The TG analysis of desorption shows that the optimum temperature to regenerate ACSS is 75 °C, which is affordable and economical for recycling. 相似文献

Effects of carbonization and solvent-extraction on change in fuel characteristics of sewage sludge 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Urban sewage sludge was carbonized at 300-500 °C for 1 h, and combustible components were extracted through the solvent-extraction process. N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) was used as the solvent for extraction, and the extraction temperature was fixed at 360 °C. The atomic ratios of the solvent-extracted sludge of CS300 (ECS300) were shown to be 1.04 for H/C and 0.11 for O/C, which represented the characteristics of its coal band. Thus, its coal band was similar to that of a high-rank fuel such as bituminous coal. FT-IR analysis showed that the absorbance band of ECS300 was considerably different from that of dried sludge (RS) or the carbonized sludge at 300 °C (CS300) but similar to that of coal, although the ash content absorbance band of 800-1200 cm−1 was of very low intensity. The combustion profile showed that combustion of ESC300 occurred at a temperature higher than the ignition temperature (Ti) or maximum weight loss rate (DTGmax) of coal. 相似文献

Influence of bulking agent on sewage sludge composting process 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Four types of compost, consisting of mixtures of Acacia dealbata (A) with sewage sludge (SS) were studied in a laboratory reactor. Composting time was 80 days and parameters monitored over this period included temperature, organic matter, pH, CO2, O2, C/N ratio, Kjeldahl-N, as well as maturity indexes. All the studied parameters were influenced by the bulking amount used. The highest profile temperature measured was for the A/SS 1/2 (w/w) mixture that reached a maxima temperature of 67 °C and lower maximum temperatures of 52, 48 and 46 °C were observed for A/SS 1/3, 1/1 and 1/0 composts, respectively. The kinetic model used showed that a descent of sewage sludge in the composting mixtures favored the enzyme–substrate affinity. However, an increase in depending on the parameters of the process factors was observed when the sewage sludge ratio was increased in mixtures. The optimal amounts of sewage sludge for co-composting with Acacia indicate that moderate amounts of sludge (1/1) would be the best compromise. 相似文献

Liquefaction residues (LR) are the main by-products of sewage sludge (SS) liquefaction. This study quantitatively evaluates the potential ecological risk and pollution degrees of heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd, Cr and Ni) in LR versus SS. The leaching rates (R1) of heavy metals in LR were much lower than those in SS, revealing that the mobility/leachability of heavy metals was well suppressed after liquefaction. Geo-accumulation index (Igeo) indicated that the liquefaction process significantly weakened the contamination degrees of heavy metals. Potential ecological risk index (RI) demonstrated that overall risks caused by heavy metals were obviously lowered from 1093.56 (very high risk) in SS to 4.72 and 1.51 (low risk) in LR1 and LR2, respectively. According to the risk assessment code (RAC), each tested heavy metal had no or low risk to the environments after liquefaction. In a word, the pollution hazards of heavy metals in LR were markedly mitigated. 相似文献

The risk (including bioavailability and eco-toxicity) of heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd, Cr and Ni) in liquefaction residues (LR) of sewage sludge (SS) was estimated, according to both the speciation of heavy metals and the local environmental characteristics. The amount of organic matters in LR was lower than that in SS, resulting in a smaller calorific value, while the total content of heavy metals in LR nearly doubled. High residual rates of heavy metals (about 80%) indicated that the heavy metals in SS were concentrated into LR after liquefaction. The comparisons of sequential extraction results between SS and LR showed that after liquefaction, the mobile and easily available heavy metal fractions (acid soluble/exchangeable and reducible fractions) were mainly transformed into the relatively stable heavy metal fractions (oxidizable and residual fractions). The bioavailability and eco-toxicity of heavy metals in LR were relieved, though the total concentrations of heavy metals increased. 相似文献

The effect of low power ultrasonic radiation on anaerobic biodegradability of sewage sludge was investigated. For this purpose, soluble substances and variation of microbial system of sewage sludge subjected to low power ultrasonic radiation were tested. The well known hydromechanical shear forces and heating effect of low frequency ultrasound plays a major role in the sludge pre treatment process. More, the increase of soluble substance may partly result from the destruction of microbial cell by excess ultrasonic pretreatment, which will inhibit the anaerobic process. By orthogonal tests, the optimal parameters were found to be an exposure time of 15 min, ultrasonic intensity of 0.35 W/cm2 and ultrasonic power density of 0.25 W/ml. Under the optimal condition, anaerobic biodegradability of sewage sludge (R(vss/ss) %) was increased by 67.6%. Consequently, it can be concluded that low power ultrasonic pretreatment is a valid method for improving anaerobic biodegradability of sewage sludge. 相似文献

Nitrogen mineralization kinetics were compared in three different soils (pH values: 5.2, 7.1 and 8.6) when treated with bovine manure (BM) and sewage sludge (SS) composts. The soil-compost mixtures were kept at a controlled moisture content of 60% of their water holding capacity (WHC) and were incubated in the dark at 25 °C for 2 years. Five mathematical models were compared (simple exponential, double exponential, special model, hyperbolic and parabolic), using as experimental data the mineralized N accumulated during 360 and 720 days of incubation. The results showed that the best fit for describing the mineralization of organic N from the compost after 1 year of experimentation was obtained with the simple exponential model. However, the special model showed the best fit for data from 2 years of incubation and thus better reflected organic N mineralization over a longer time-span. This suggested that the organic N in the two composts was made up of two organic pools of different degrees of stability. 相似文献

Activated carbons were prepared from sewage sludge by chemical activation. Pyrolusite was added as a catalyst during activation and carbonization. The influence of the mineral addition on the properties of the activated carbons produced was evaluated. The results show that activated carbons from pyrolusite-supplemented sewage sludge had up to a 75% higher BET surface area and up to a 66% increase in mesoporosity over ordinary sludge-based activated carbons. Batch adsorption experiments applying the prepared adsorbents to synthetic dye wastewater treatment yielded adsorption data well fitted to the Langmuir isotherm. The adsorbents from pyrolusite-supplemented sludges performed better in dye removal than those without mineral addition, with the carbon from pyrolusite-augmented sludge T2 presenting a significant increase in maximum adsorption capacity of 50 mg/g. The properties of the adsorbents were improved during pyrolusite-catalyzed pyrolysis via enhancement of mesopore production, thus the mesopore channels may provide fast mass transfer for large molecules like dyes. 相似文献

采用透析、凝胶色谱 (SephadexG 75 )研究了污泥堆肥前后腐殖质分子大小的变化及重金属Cu和Zn在各级组分中的分配。透析结果表明 ,污泥经过堆腐以后 ,腐殖质中小分子物质 (<10 0 0Da)组分的含量下降 6 4 % ,而相对高分子组分 (>2 5 0 0 0Da)却增加了 6 8%。凝胶色谱进一步证实 ,污泥经过 4 9d堆腐后 ,腐殖质中大于 2 0 0 0KDa的大分子组分是堆肥起始时的2 3倍。而小分子组分明显减少 ,表现在小分子组分的凝胶洗脱体积明显减少。堆肥腐熟以后 ,腐殖质吸附的Cu、Zn元素含量增加 ,其中Cu主要被吸附在大分子物质上 ,而Zn主要与小分子物质结合 相似文献

Summary Heavy metal-loaded sewage sludge was leached abiotically using FeCl2 and FeCl3 which are applied in waste water treatment plants to eliminate phosphate and for coagulation. Due to the hydrolyzing nature of ferric iron, ferric chloride (100 mmll L–1) was able to solubilize more than 90% of copper and zinc and more than 80% of cadmium, with an optimal pulp density of 3% (w/v), after 10 h of exposition at 25°C. Chromium, lead and nickel were solubilized to an extent of 40–70%. With the exception of copper (redoxolysis), all heavy metals monitored were leached following the principle of acidolysis. Chemical leaching with iron resulted in a secondary contamination of sewage sludge (96 g iron per kg dry weight). The insoluble iron compounds which were precipitated for adsorbed to sludge flocks could be resolubilized with oxalic acid (100 mM, pH<3.3) up to an extent of 90%. Iron was leached by acidolysis and held in solution by complexation with oxalic acid. The pH optimum for the treatment of sewage sludge with 100 mmol L–1 oxalic acid was pH 3.3. At this pH an excessive solubilization of nutrient elements and compounds (phosphorus, nitrogen, alkali and alkali earth elements) could be avoided concomitantly leaching 75% iron. Furthermore the hydrophobicity of the sewage sludge was significantly reduced as a result of treatment with iron chloride.Thiobacillus ferrooxidans (isolated from arsenopyrite and adapted on sewage sludge) utilized ferrous iron as an energy source in the presence of chloride ions (FeCl2) as efficiently as ferrous sulphate. This paper studies the energy valorization of sewage sludge using a batch fry–drying process. Drying processes was carried out by emerging the cylindrical samples of the sewage sludge in the preheated recycled cooking oil. Experimental frying curves for different conditions were determined. Calorific values for the fried sewage sludge were hence determined to be around 24 MJ kg−1, showing the auto-combustion potential of the fried sludge. A one-dimensional model allowing for the prediction of the water removal during frying was developed. Another water replacement model for oil intake in the fried sewage sludge was also developed. Improved volatile fatty acids production from proteins of sewage sludge with anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate (AQDS) under anaerobic condition 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Organic matters in sewage sludge can be converted into volatile fatty acids (VFAs) as renewable carbon sources. This work for the first time applied anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate (AQDS) for enhancing VFA production from sewage sludge. With 0.066 or 0.33 g AQDS g−1 dried solids (DS), the yields for VFAs peak at 403 or 563 mg l−1, 1.9- or 2.7-fold to the control. The accumulated VFAs were principally composed of acetate and propionate. The AQDS enhances degradation rates of model proteins (bovine serum albumin), but had little enhancement on that of model polysaccharides (dextrans). The acidification step is proposed the rate-limiting step for VFA production from sewage sludge, in which the AQDS molecules shuttle electrons to accelerate the redox reactions associated with amino acid degradation. Methanogenic activities are inhibited in the presence of AQDS. The AQDS-assisted VFAs are renewable organic carbon sources, although their direct use for anaerobic digestion is not advised. 相似文献

AIMS: To predict the number of humans in the UK infected through consumption of root crops grown on agricultural land to which treated sewage sludge has been applied in accordance with the current regulations and guidance (Safe Sludge Matrix). METHODS AND RESULTS: Quantitative risk assessments based on the source, pathway, receptor approach are developed for seven pathogens, namely salmonellas, Listeria monocytogenes, campylobacters, Escherichia coli O157, Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia, and enteroviruses. Using laboratory data for pathogen destruction by mesophilic anaerobic digestion, and not extrapolating experimental data for pathogen decay in soil to the full 30-month harvest interval specified by the Matrix, predicts 50 Giardia infections per year, but less than one infection per year for the other six pathogens. Assuming linear decay in the soil, a 12-month harvest interval eliminates the risks from all seven pathogens; the highest predicted being one infection of C. parvum in the UK every 45 years. Computer simulations show that a protective effect from binding of pathogens to particulate matter could potentially exaggerate the observed rate of decay in experimental systems. CONCLUSIONS: The results confirm, assuming pathogens behave according to our current understanding, that the risks to humans from consumption of vegetable crops are remote. Furthermore the harvest intervals stipulated by the Safe Sludge Matrix compensate for potential lapses in the operational efficiency of sludge treatment. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The models demonstrate the huge potential impact of decay in the soil over the 12/30-month intervals specified by the Matrix, although lack of knowledge on the exact nature of soil decay processes is a source of uncertainty. The models enable the sensitivity of the predicted risks to changes in the operational efficiency of sewage sludge treatment to be assessed. 相似文献

Anaerobic co-digestion of grease trap and sewage sludge from a wastewater treatment plant is evaluated. Enzyme-lipase application, both addition and dosage, are evaluated by fitting the methane production of biochemical potential tests with the first order model. The enzyme addition effect, at 2, 5 and 10% of grease trap (%GT VSFED?1) and the enzymes doses, between 0.25 and 1.67% (v/v), without and with grease trap presence were studied. Grease trap addition showed a negative effect on the waste biodegradability, which was completely overcome by the addition of lipase. Enzyme addition improved notably the methane production for all grease trap fractions studied. In regards to the dosage, the best result was achieved between 0.33 and 0.83% (v/v) of enzyme. The goal of this research is to compare the metal binding characteristics of an anoxic selector activated sludge system and
a conventional activated sludge system. Metal biosorption by biomass harvested from experimental systems was determined by
a series of batch experiments. Heavy metals studied in this research were zinc, cadmium, and nickel. The sorption isotherm
showed that the selector sludge had significantly higher sorption capacity than did the control sludge. Metal biosorption
behavior closely followed a Freundlich isotherm model for equilibrium concentrations. ECP contents of biomass estimated by
alkali extraction technique showed that ECP levels in the selector sludge significantly higher than that in the sludge harvested
from the conventional system, indicating that the higher metal sorption capacity of selector sludge may be due to the selection
of the ECP-producing bacteria (i.e., Zoogloca sp.) by the selector system. 相似文献
