Crop characteristics involving cone size, average number of seeds per cone, and seed germinability have been studied for three hybrid swarm populations of Pinus mugo and P. sylvestris, two pure P. mugo populations and one pure P. sylvestris population, in northern Slovakia. Generally, reproduction capability characteristics were significantly reduced in hybrid swarms in relation to the control populations. Although there were no consistent differences between hybrid swarms and control populations in the average number of seeds per cone or cone size, seed germination rates and full seed production in hybrid swarms were lower than for the control population of P. sylvestris and one of the pure populations of P. mugo. Based on these data a conclusion has been drawn postulating partial rather than full fertility of the hybrid swarm populations of P. mugo and P. sylvestris. 相似文献

Comparative study on fertilization process in Pinus sylvestris, Pinus mugo and in their putative hybrid swarm individuals was done involving pre-zygotic and post-zygotic stages. The amount of surviving
ovules from open pollination reflecting the mode of interaction between pollen grains and nucellar tissue of an ovule averaged
at 8.1 of sound ovules per conelet in Pinus sylvestris, 7.3 ovules in the hybrid swarm population and at 4.9 ovules in Pinus mugo. A strong correlation was observed between the number of surviving ovules and the proportion of germinating seeds in the compared
species and hybrids. Normal course of embryogenesis in Pinus sylvestris and Pinus mugo contrasted with increased frequency of disturbances observed in the hybrid swarm individuals. The differential survival rates
of the ovules and deviations from typical pattern of embryogenesis are discussed from the standpoint of cross-ability relationship
between Pinus sylvestris and Pinus mugo. 相似文献

Lack of evidence on hybrid swarm in the sympatric population of Pinus mugo and P. sylvestris 总被引:2,自引:1,他引:2
Natural hybridisation between the taxa from Pinus mugo complex and P. sylvestris was postulated in several sympatric populations of the species in Europe. However, due to the absence of precise methods for identification of hybrid seeds and hybrid trees, the frequency of hybridisation and its influence on the genetic structure of relict P. mugo populations has not been clarified so far. In the present study, the species-specific chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) marker and isozymes were applied to test the hybridisation hypothesis in a postulated hybrid swarm population of the species from “Bór na Czerwonem” reserve at the northern foothills of Tatra Mts., Poland. The cpDNA marker was used to identify hybrids within two groups of polycormic (multi-stemmed) and monocormic (single-stemmed) pines from this population. Allelic frequencies at isozyme loci from both groups were compared to frequencies found in allopatric populations of the species. Additionally, cpDNA haplotypes of seedlings derived from open pollinated seeds were studied to detect the possibility of successful cross-pollination. The mixture of seedlings with P. sylvestris and P. mugo cpDNA haplotypes was derived from one parental tree that indicates hybridisation. However, all the mature polycormic pines had cpDNA haplotypes species specific to P. mugo and the isozyme frequencies were similar to frequencies found in three allopatric populations of P. mugo from Tatra Mts. (mean genetic distance, Dn=.027). The differences were much larger in comparisons with monocormic pines from this area (Dn=.085) and two P. sylvestris samples from distant allopatric populations (Dn=.077). Nearly all monocormic pines had cpDNA species specific to P. sylvestris and isozyme frequencies similar to other populations of this species (mean Dn=.004). Only one P. sylvestris-like monocormic tree had cpDNA of P. mugo and can be considered as a hybrid. The results do not provide evidence supporting the hybrid swarm hypothesis. Rather, the results suggest that mature hybrids have a low frequency within this population and (rare) hybridisation is not reciprocal but unidirectional with P. mugo as pollen donor. 相似文献

Summary The amounts of glucose, fructose, sucrose, arabinose/galactose, raffinose/stachyose and starch were investigated in the outer sapwood, innermost sapwood, transition zone and heartwood of four stems of Pinus sylvestris L. The samples were taken in October and the determination of the compounds was done enzymatically. It was not possible to distinguish arabinose from galactose and raffinose from stachyose. The amounts of glucose, fructose and sucrose were greatest in the outer sapwood and decreased gradually towards the innermost sapwood and the heartwood. In the outermost heartwood glucose, fructose and sucrose were only present in trace amounts. Raffinose/stachyose showed highest concentrations in the outer sapwood and decreased towards the heartwood. In contrast, the concentrations of arabinose/galactose increased towards the heartwood and the greatest amount was found in the inner heartwood. When identified by thin-layer chromatography (TLC), arabinose was found to be present in greater amounts than galactose. The amount of starch decreased markedly towards heartwood. However, the amounts of sugars in all the studied stems was very variable. The changes in the amounts of carbohydrates in the different zones of the stems and the possible relationships of these phenomena with heartwood formation are discussed. 相似文献

Summary The ultrastructure of plastids in xylem ray parenchyma cells of Pinus sylvestris L. was studied and compared with the glycolipid composition of the stemwood. Seasonal changes of the ultrastructure were studied by taking samples regularly throughout the year. The plastids resemble amyloplasts. They usually have one large starch grain, and considerable variation in structure and starch content was observed, especially in the innermost sapwood and in the sapwood-heartwood transition zone. Electron-dense deposits were observed attached to the plastid membranes and envelopes, especially in the transition zone, from April to November. The plastids were aggregated near the nucleus and the starch disappeared during the winter (January–March). The glycolipids, monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) and di-galactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG), were present only in the sapwood, in trace amounts. The glycolipid content was slightly greater in the outer sapwood than in the sapwood-heartwood transition zone. DGDG was the dominant lipid of the two. 相似文献

Summary The lipid and sterol content and composition of three lipid fractions (free fatty acids/ sterols, triacylglycerols and sterol/triterpenoid esters) extracted from three stem discs of Pinus sylvestris were assessed to investigate metabolic changes related to heartwood formation. The wood was separated into (1) cambial zone, (2) outer sapwood, (3) inner sapwood, (4) transition zone, (5) outer heartwood and 6) inner heart-wood. The fractions were separated by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and analysed by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC). The amount of fatty acids of sapwood triacylglycerols was about 1.5% (dry wt.) but a large reduction occurred in the transition zone. In contrast, noticeable amounts of free fatty acids were present only in the heart-wood. The most important fatty acids in the sapwood fractions were 16:0, 18:0, 18:1, 18:2 (the dominant fatty acid in all fractions), 18:3 and 20:3. Together 18:1 and 18:2 formed about 70% of the total triacylglycerol fatty acids. Of the sterol/ triterpenoid esters, 18:2 and 18:3 were predominant. The fatty acid composition of all fractions changed in the transition zone. The sterols found were sitosterol, stigmastanol, campesterol and campestanol. The amount of sterol esters increased towards the heartwood, and the amount of free sterols was lowest in the inner sapwood. Sitosterol was the dominant sterol in both free sterols and sterol esters. 相似文献

The effects of Cd on the growth and distribution of Cd and mineral nutrients within plant tissues were investigated for Pinus sylvestris L. seedlings grown in mineral forest soil with increasing levels of Cd addition (0–100 mg kg–1). Approximately 20% of added Cd was found to be extractable from sandy loam forest soil. Root growth was less affected by Cd than shoot growth, which showed a significant reduction in the 100 mg Cd kg–1 treatment. Cadmium accumulated in roots up to 325 mg kg–1. Decreased concentrations of K in needles and Ca in stems with increasing Cd levels suggest a disturbance of mineral nutrition as a result of Cd addition. 相似文献

Summary The lipid levels and fatty acid composition of three fractions (free fatty acids, triacylglycerols and sterol/triterpenoid esters) extracted from the sapwood and heartwood of three stems of Pinus sylvestris were determined to investigate both seasonal changes in sapwood and possible metabolic changes related to heartwood formation. Seasonal changes were observed only in the amount of the free fatty acids in the sapwood: the level of free fatty acids was greatest at the beginning and end of the growing season. In the January and March samples the amount of the free fatty acid fraction in the sapwood was very small. The amount of the other fractions remained at the same level throughout the study. Marked seasonal changes in the fatty acid composition occurred only in the free fatty acid fraction of the sapwood: the saturation grade increased during the winter. 相似文献

The geographical variation in the composition of triacylglycerols in seeds of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst.], grown in Finland, was analyzed. The total lipid content of pine seeds was slightly higher in the northernmost provenance (68 °50N), whereas the lipid content of spruce seeds was not affected systematically by the geographical origin of the seeds. The species studied differed in the proportions of fatty acids in their triacylglycerols, though the three most abundant components were the same, i.e. oleic acid (181 n9), linoleic acid (182n-6) and 5,9,12-octadecatrienoic acid (183 5c9c12c). These fatty acids corresponded to more than 80 mol% of the total fatty acids. According to mass spectrometric analyses, the triacylglycerols of both spruce and pine seeds consisted of the same molecular species with 52–56 acyl carbons, but in different proportions. Molecules with 54 acyl carbons represented approximately 75% of the pine and 85% of the spruce triacylglycerols, with the most abundant molecular species being 545, 546 and 547. Some minor differences in the fatty acid composition of triacylglycerols of pine seeds from different seed collecting areas were found: the proportion of linoleic acid slightly increased whereas that of 5,11,14-eicosatrienoic acid decreased towards the northern origins. Similar differences were not found in the proportions of fatty acids in spruce seed lots. Furthermore, the proportions of triacylglycerols in both pine and spruce seeds from northern and southern collecting areas were not significantly different. The higher content of total lipids in spruce seeds compared with pine seeds may be due to the structure of the seed coat, and the lipophilic layers inside it, acting as a barrier to imbibition. 相似文献

Response of Pinus sylvestris L. to recent climatic events in the French Mediterranean region 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Exceptional climatic events from 2003 to 2005 (scorching heat and drought) affected the whole of the vegetation in the French
Mediterranean region and in particular the Scots pine (Pinus
sylvestris L.), one of the most important forest tree species in this area. To understand its response to these extreme conditions,
we investigated its radial growth, branch length growth, architectural development and reproduction for the period 1995–2005,
and linked these variables to climatic parameters. We used four plots situated in southeastern France and presenting different
levels of site quality and potential forest productivity. The results show that: (1) the climatic episode 2003–2005 was highly
detrimental to the growth (bole and branches), crown development, and cone production but favored the production of male flowers;
(2) these variables depend on climatic factors of both the current and previous years; (3) the 2003 scorching heat impact
was strong but was mainly apparent from 2004; it was part of a 6-year-long unfavorable cycle beginning in 2000, characterized
by high minimum and maximum temperatures and very dry springs; (4) in spite of a significant effect of site quality, the Scots
pine’s response to extreme climatic conditions was homogeneous in the French Mediterranean area; and (5) the stress induced
by poor site conditions generally resulted in the same consequences for tree growth, architecture, and reproduction as in
unfavorable climatic conditions. 相似文献

Former controlled crosses between twelve Pinus montana var. rostrata (Pinus mugo complex) and eight P. sylvestris clones revealed that only two P. sylvestris had efficiently fertilised P. montana. Two species-diagnostic chloroplast DNA markers were applied to verify the species purity of the parental clones. All maternal
P. montana were unambiguously confirmed to belong to the P. mugo complex at both chloroplast DNA marker loci. Six P. sylvestris clones carried the `sylvestris' haplotypes. However, the same two P. sylvestris clones that had efficiently fertilised P. montana displayed the chloroplast haplotypes diagnostic to the P. mugo complex. The patterns of highly polymorphic cpDNA microsatellite markers in parents and offspring ruled out contamination
by foreign pollen. We concluded that the two clones successful in the crosses represent fertile hybrids between the two species
with P. mugo as the pollen donor. Consequently, DNA markers are proposed for verifying or falsifying the success of artificial fertilisation
in general. The existence of crossing barriers between the two Pinus species, meaningful to the postulated natural hybridisation and the evolution of their populations in sympatric stands, was
indicated and is newly discussed. 相似文献

Summary Inheritance of frost hardiness was analysed making use of a 12×12 incomplete factorial mating design. Owing to space limitations only 59 families could be tested in four experiments. To link the four experiments, some families were common to two or more experiments. The seedlings were grown in climate chambers under conditions inducing autumn hardening. The plants were exposed to a freezing temperature of –10 °C for three hours at night lengths of 11–13 h. A statistical model was developed for analyses of variance of our data. The genetic variation and the variation due to the cultivation regimes during autumn hardening were of the same magnitude. The additive effects were the most important ones for induction of frost damage. No interaction following long-distance crossing was noted. Mixed model equations were used for ranking of the parents. The results obtained support a polygenic inheritance of frost hardiness. The large within-population variation offers good opportunities for hardiness breeding. 相似文献

Nutrient conservation in plants and soil fertility may be intricately linked. We studied nitrogen conservation in small Scots pine (Pinus sylvestrisL.) trees growing in stands on organogenic Dystric Histosols and on mineral Podzols. Nitrogen-resorption efficiency (NRE) and proficiency (NRP) of senescent needles, and mean residence time of nitrogen (MRT) were studied in relation to needle surface area, needle longevity, and leaf mass per area (LMA). Trees on Podzols had higher nitrogen concentration in green needles than the trees on Dystric Histosols, but the nitrogen concentration of yellowing needles was similar for trees on both soil types. NRE averaged 65±3.5% (mean±SD) and 56±7.2% for the trees on Podzols and Dystric Histosols, respectively. Neither NRP (0.44±0.05% and 0.35±0.07%, respectively) nor MRT (8.4±2.3 and 6.1±1.2 years) differed significantly between the stands on the two soil types. Mean needle surface area was significantly smaller in trees on Dystric Histosols (76±29 mm2) than on Podzols (131±38 mm2), whereas needle longevity varied between 2 and 4 years independently of the soil type. Trees invested, on average, the same amount of dry matter per unit of needle area on both soil types. Growth of trees, measured as increment of shoot length, was more restricted on Dystric Histosols (55±18 mm yr–1) than on Podzols (184±44 mm yr–1). The results of the correlation analysis applied to pooled data were inconsistent with the relations between traits of stress resistance syndrome observed in inter-specific comparisons. The study indicated that Scots pine trees relocated nitrogen from senescent foliage more efficiently on mineral Podzols than on organogenic Dystric Histosols, but the minimum nitrogen concentration of needles appeared to be similar on both soil types. 相似文献

The effect of ectomycorrhizal fungi on Zn uptake and distribution in seedlings of Pinus sylvestris L
Seedlings of pine, infected with two different ectomycorrhizal fungi, Suillus bovinus (Fr.) O. Kuntze and an unidentified isolate (BP), were exposed to various external Zn concentrations. An additional strain of S. bovinus, cultured on a Zn-enriched medium, was also used. The effect of mycorrhizal associations on Zn uptake and distribution within the plant was determined by AAS.The results show that nonmycorrhizal seedlings have the capability to control the uptake and translocation of Zn to the shoot until the external Zn concentration reaches a threshold level, where no limitation of uptake is possible. Excess Zn is accumulated in the root system to protect the shoot against toxic tissue concentrations. The effect of an ectomycorrhizal infection on Zn uptake and distribution depends on (1) the fungal species (2) the external concentration and (3) the Zn content of the fungal culture medium. Under conditions of low external Zn supply, especially a mycorrhizal infection with S. bovinus led to an increased Zn uptake in root and needles of Pinus sylvestris. Under high external conditions the mycobionts varied considerably in their capability to reduce the transport of Zn to the shoot. Only by an infection with S. bovinus the plant was able to maintain the shoot tissue concentration on a low level. This effect can be enhanced by pretreatment of S. bovinus with high Zn concentrations. 相似文献

Nutrient content in peat and growth rate, rate of nutrient accumulation and allocation patterns in Scots pine Pinus sylvestris L. from eleven natural Swedish peatlands were examined. The peatlands studied represented a wide range of climatic conditions and mire types. Whole and even-sized pines with intact root-systems were excavated to give the whole-pine budget for growth and nutrient accumulation. All samples originated from hummock communities.Pine growth and nutrient characteristics were much more variable in the minerogenous sites than in the ombrogenous sites, which indicates a larger environmental heterogeneity within the minerogenous sites. In the ombrogenous sites, rate of pine growth was constant, approximately 1 mg day-1, and independent of latitudinal variation. There was either no relationship between latitudinal location and growth rate in the minerogenous sites, which suggests that pine growth is largely controlled by site-specific, very local conditions. The growth rate of pines was not correlated with any peat nutrient. The pines allocated a large proportion of their nutrient-pool to the metabolically active current year's growth. This is likely a trait that enables Scots pine to occupy a wide range of peatland types in which it experience a marked imbalance and shortage of nutrients. 相似文献

Reclaimed mine soils of the Lusatian mining district are characterised by small-scale heterogeneous distribution of lignite
fragments of varying size embedded in a matrix of Tertiary and Quaternary sandy material. Despite amelioration with basic
fly ashes, ongoing pyrite oxidation and the subsequent acidification generate a high physical and chemical heterogeneity within
the substrate, which could negatively affect root proliferation. We hypothesised that this limitation for the root system
may be compensated for by intensive exploration of the porous lignite fragments by roots and/or mycorrhizal hyphae to access
water and nutrients stored in these fragments. To test this hypothesis, we compared growth, shoot nutrient content, and root
distribution of mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal Pinus sylvestris L. seedlings in lignite-containing and lignite-free sandy substrate. Rhizotrons used for this experiment were filled with
a sandy matrix with 6–9 evenly distributed spots of lignite fragments. Treatments included different levels of water and nutrient
availability. After 8 months of growth, root tip vitality as well as growth and shoot nutrient concentration of the plants
was higher for treatments with lignite spots in the sandy substrate than for sandy substrate without such amendments. Compared
to the non-mycorrhizal plants, the seedlings inoculated with Paxillus involutus (Batsch) Fr. had a higher root dry mass, an increased number of root tips and a higher root length. These results confirm
our hypothesis that the lignite fragments are an important nutrient and water reservoir for plants in these mine soils and
they indicate that mycorrhizal colonisation may allow an intensive exploration of porous lignite fragments by mycorrhizal
hyphae. 相似文献

Dormancy-breaking treatment of the photosensitive Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) seed by white light incubation or a 15-min exposure to red light decreased the abscisic acid content prior to radicle protrusion. Incubation in the dark or exposure to red light followed by a 5-min far-red light irradiation did not cause as great a decrease in abscisic acid content nor was the dormancy relieved. The ability of the far-red light to keep the ABA level high and to prevent germination gradually disappeared as the length of the dark period between the red and far-red treatments was increased to 24 h. ABA was quantified on a gas chromatograph with an electron capture detector. 相似文献

The localized hybridization between Orchis mascula and O. provincialis in Sardinia is investigated. The two parental species are closely related and share the same pollinators but do not hybridize in any other areas of sympatry. Artificial crosses between the two species in areas of sympatry on the continent revealed that, in absence of an ethological isolation, a strong post-pollination barrier exists and preserves species integrity in the main part of their distribution. However, on Sardinia, morphological observations, karyological and molecular analyses of intermediate phenotypes confirmed the occurrence of hybridization between the insular O. mascula ssp. ichnusae and O. provincialis and the bi-directionality of pollen flow. The occurrence of hybrids on the island indicates a failure of otherwise strong post-pollination barriers between O. mascula and O. provincialis. 相似文献

Daily dynamics of radial cell expansion during wood formation within the stems of 25-year-old Scots pine trees (Pinus sylvestris L.), growing in field conditions, were studied. The samples of forming wood layers were extracted 4 times per day for 3 days. Possible variations in the growth on different sides of the stem, duration of cell development in radial cell expansion phase and dynamics of cell growth in this phase were taken into account. The perimeters of tracheid cross-sections as a reflection of primary cell wall growth were the criterion of growth in a radial direction. For the evaluation of growing cell perimeters a special system for digital processing and image analysis of tracheid cross-sections of the forming wood was used. Growth rate for certain time intervals was estimated by the change in the relation of the perimeter of each observed cell in each of ten tracheid rows in each of 12 trees to the perimeter of the xylem cell of the same row before the expansion. Temporal differences in average values of the relations were estimated by Analyses of Variance. The existence of daily dynamics of Scots pine xylem cell radial growth has been proved. Intensive growth of pine tracheids has been shown to occur at any time of the day and to depend on the temperature regime of the day and the night as well as water supply of stem tissues. Moreover, reliable differences (P = 0.95) in the increment of cell walls during tracheid radial expansion have been found. Pulsing changes of the water potentials both of the cell and the apoplast, as the reason for the fluctuations of radial cell growth rate, were discussed. 相似文献
