This study compared physiological responses to 2 high-speed resistance training (RT) protocols in untrained adults. Both RT protocols included 12 repetitions for the same 6 exercises, only differing in continuous (1 x 12) or discontinuous (2 x 6) mode. For discontinuous mode, there was a 15-second rest interval between sets. We hypothesized that the 2 x 6 protocol was less physiologically demanding than the 1 x 12 protocol. Fifteen untrained adults randomly performed the protocols on 2 different days while heart rate (HR), blood lactate (BL), rate of perceived exertion (RPE), and concentric phase mean power (CPMP) were measured. Significantly lower values (mean +/- SE) were seen with the discontinuous protocol for exercise HR (119 +/- 5 vs. 124 +/- 5 b x min(-1)), BL (5.7 +/- 0.5 vs. 6.7 +/- 0.3 mMol/L), and RPE (5.4 +/- 0.3 vs. 5.8 +/- 0.4) (p < 0.05). CPMP tended to be higher in the discontinuous protocol, especially for the 2 last repetitions. The discontinuous protocol was significantly less physiologically demanding, although similar or higher CPMP values were obtained. These findings may help foster long-term adherence to RT in untrained individuals. However, future studies are needed to compare physiological adaptations induced by these 2 RT protocols.  相似文献

In human muscle the role of myoglobin (Mb) and its relationship to factors such as muscle perfusion and metabolic capacity are not well understood. We utilized nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to simultaneously study the Mb concentration ([Mb]), perfusion, and metabolic characteristics in calf muscles of athletes trained long term for either sprint or endurance running after plantar flexion exercise and cuff ischemia. The acquisitions for (1)H assessment of Mb desaturation and concentration, arterial spin labeling measurement of muscle perfusion, and (31)P spectroscopy to monitor high-energy phosphate metabolites were interleaved in a 4-T magnet. The endurance-trained runners had a significantly elevated [Mb] (0.28 +/- 0.06 vs. 0.20 +/- 0.03 mmol/kg). The time constant of creatine rephosphorylation (tauPCr), an indicator of oxidative capacity, was both shorter in the endurance-trained group (34 +/- 6 vs. 64 +/- 20 s) and negatively correlated with [Mb] across all subjects (r = 0.58). The time to reach maximal perfusion after cuff release was also both shorter in the endurance-trained group (306 +/- 74 vs. 560 +/- 240 s) and negatively correlated with [Mb] (r = 0.56). Finally, Mb reoxygenation rate tended to be higher in the endurance-trained group and was positively correlated with tauPCr (r = 0.75). In summary, these NMR data reveal that [Mb] is increased in human muscle with a high oxidative capacity and a highly responsive vasculature, and the rate at which Mb resaturates is well correlated with the rephosphorylation rate of Cr, each of which support a teleological role for Mb in O(2) transport within highly oxidative human skeletal muscle.  相似文献

A new method was developed to determine myoglobin (Mb) contents in as least as 5 mg of murine skeletal muscles. The method was a modification of Reynafarje's spectroscopic technique and was based on the Soret absorptions at 416 and 422 nm of the muscle extract. Mb contents in the skeletal and cardiac muscles increased with age and were widely different from muscle to muscle. The contents in most of the 13 muscles examined at the 30th week of age were less than 1.5 mg/g wet muscle, but the cardiac, soleus and gracilis muscles showed exceptionally high values of 2.2-6.0 mg/g. The relative content of one muscle to the other was the same independent of differences in age, strain and sex. There was a positive correlation between the muscle Mb contents and citrate synthase activity (r = 0.930). Young male mice (5 wk-old) were endurance-trained by a gradual load-increment program on treadmill for 10 weeks (5 days/week), but the training had no effects on the Mb contents. No substantial alteration of the contents was also observed in the limbs immobilized by plaster-fixation for 4 weeks.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of repetition maximum (RM) loads and training patterns on acute neuromuscular responses in the upper body. Markers of fatigue were monitored under a descending pattern (DP), in which repetitions decreased in subsequent sets, and an ascending pattern (AP), in which repetitions increased in subsequent sets. Both training patterns were performed using 5- and 10-RM loads. Fatigue was assessed by monitoring changes in force output, motor unit activation and muscle twitch characteristics (peak twitch [PT], time to PT [TPT], and ? relaxation time [RT]). All 4 protocols (5-RM DP, 5-RM AP, 10-RM DP, and 10-RM AP) produced significant decreases pre to postprotocol in force output, TPT, and ?RT. With the exception of 5-RM DP, all protocols produced significant decreases in motor unit activation. Pre to postprotocol, PT forces were potentiated under 5-RM loads, whereas they were depressed under 10-RM loads. Hence, a main effect for training protocols showed that changes in PT force were significantly different under 5-RM, as compared to 10-RM loads. The results indicate that central fatigue may be independent of load and pattern, whereas peripheral fatigue would appear to be dependent on load but not pattern.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare pure eccentric and concentric isokinetic training with respect to their possible specificity in the adaptation of strength and morphology of the knee extensor muscles. Ten moderately trained male physical education students were divided into groups undertaking eccentric (ETG) and concentric (CTG) training. They performed 10 weeks of maximal isokinetic (90 degrees x s(-1)) training of the left leg, 4x10 repetitions - three times a week, followed by a second 10-week period of similar training of the right-leg. Mean eccentric and concentric peak torques increased by 18% and 2% for ETG and by 10% and 14% for CTG, respectively. The highest increase in peak torque occurred in the eccentric 90 degrees x s(-1) test for ETG (35%) whereas in CTG strength gains ranged 8%-15% at velocities equal or lower than the training velocity. Significant increases in strength were observed in the untrained contra-lateral leg only at the velocity and mode used in ipsilateral training. Cross-sectional area of the quadriceps muscle increased 3%-4% with training in both groups, reaching statistical significance only in ETG. No major changes in muscle fibre composition or areas were detected in biopsies from the vastus lateralis muscle for either leg or training group. In conclusion, effects of eccentric training on muscle strength appeared to be more mode and speed specific than corresponding concentric training. Only minor adaptations in gross muscle morphology indicated that other factors, such as changes in neural activation patterns, were causing the specific training-induced gains in muscle strength.  相似文献

运用组织学和紫外分光光度法,对常氧、低氧2周和4周的甘肃鼢鼠(Myospalax cansus)及SD大鼠(Rattus norvegicus)骨骼肌形态结构、乳酸脱氢酶(LDH)、琥珀酸脱氢酶(SDH)活力及肌红蛋白(Mb)浓度进行测定。结果显示,甘肃鼢鼠骨骼肌形态结构在常氧、低氧2周及4周后变化不明显;SD大鼠随低氧时间延长发生显著变化,低氧2周后,肌纤维明显萎缩,间隙增大,结构较紊乱;低氧4周后,肌纤维破裂,呈细丝状,不规则,大小不一致,肌节紊乱。甘肃鼢鼠LDH活性随低氧时间增长逐渐降低,但无显著性差异(P0.05);在不同时间低氧处理后,甘肃鼢鼠前后肢的LDH活性均极显著低于SD大鼠(P0.01);常氧条件下,甘肃鼢鼠前后肢SDH活性低于SD大鼠,但无显著差异(P0.05),低氧2周及4周后,与SD大鼠呈极显著差异(P0.01);常氧条件下,甘肃鼢鼠前后肢Mb浓度均显著高于SD大鼠(P0.05),低氧2周及4周后,极显著高于SD大鼠(P0.01)。结果表明,甘肃鼢鼠骨骼肌较SD大鼠有着更强的低氧耐受力。  相似文献

The plasma adrenaline ([A]) and noradrenaline ([NA]) concentration responses of nine men and eight women were investigated in four resistance exercise tests (E80, E60, E40 and E20), in which the subjects had to perform a maximal number of bilateral knee extension-flexion movements at a given cycle pace of 0.5 Hz, but at different load levels (80%, 60%, 40% and 20% of 1 repetition maximum, respectively). The four test sessions were separated by a minimal interval of 3 rest days. The number of repetitions (Repmax), the total work (Wtot) done normalized for the lean body mass and the heart rate (HR) responses were similar in the two groups in each test. In addition, no differences were found between the two groups in [A] and [NA] either before or after the exercise tests. The postexercise [NA], both in the men [10.8 (SD 7.0) nmol x l(-1)] and in the women [11.7 (SD 7.4) nmol x l(-1)], was clearly the highest in E20, where also the Repmax, WtOt, the total amount of integrated electromyograph activity in the agonist muscles and the peak postexercise blood lactate concentration [men 8.3 (SD 1.6) vs women 7.3 (SD 0.9) mmol x l(-1), ns] were significantly higher than in the other tests. Although the postexercise [A] in E20 both in the men [7.1 (SD 6.0) nmol x l(-1)] and in the women [5.2 (SD 2.0) nmol x l(-1)] were higher than in E80 [men 3.1 (SD 4.2), women 2.1 (SD 2.0) nmol x l(-l)] (P < 0.05), they were not significantly different from E60 [men 3.6 (SD 1.9), women 4.0 (SD 3.3) nmol x l(-1)] and E40 [men 3.8 (SD 4.1), women 5.8 (SD 4.0) nmol x l(-1)] in either group. The present study did not indicate any sex differences in performance and in plasma catecholamine responses in different exhausting resistance exercise tests performed with the knee extensor muscles. In both groups the plasma [NA] response was clearly the largest in the longest exercise with the greatest amount of muscle activity and work done, and with the largest blood lactate response. The differences in the plasma [A] responses between the exercises tended to be somewhat smaller.  相似文献

The effects of iron deficiency and endurance training on muscle myoglobin (Mb), body weights, and blood lactic acid concentration were studied in rats. Fifty animals were divided into four groups: anemic trained (AT), normal trained (NT), anemic sedentary (AS), and normal sedentary (NS). Following 5 weeks of dietary control, the mean hemoglobin values for the AT and AS rats were 0.013 +/- 0.002 mmol X l-1 (8.7 +/- 1.4 g X dl-1) and 0.014 +/- 0.003 mmol X l-1 (9.2 +/- 1.7 g X dl-1) respectively, and did not significantly change throughout the study. AT and NT rats were run on a motor driven treadmill 4 days/week for 6 weeks up to a pre-established time of 90 min. Following the training, body weights of the AT (157 +/- 13 g) and NT (153 +/- 13 g) rats were lower than their respective sedentary groups AS (172 +/- 9 g) and NS (176 +/- 15 g). Resting blood lactic acid concentration following training was lower in both trained groups, AT (3.3 +/- 2.0 mM) and NT (2.3 +/- 1.9 mM) compared to AS (8.2 +/- 2.6 mM) and NS (3.8 +/- 1.6 mM). Training increased Mb concentration in hearts of both the anemic and normal trained groups (AT, 0.66 +/- 0.13 mg X g-1; NT, 0.95 +/- 0.08 mg X g-1) compared to the sedentary groups (AS, 0.44 +/- 0.08 mg X g-1; NS, 0.70 +/- 0.13 mg X g-1). Only the AT rats showed an increase in skeletal muscle Mb. This study provides evidence that myoglobin may limit aerobic metabolism.  相似文献

Although a dose-response relationship between resistance training frequency and strength has been identified, there is limited research regarding the association between frequency and body composition. This study evaluated the effects of 3 vs. 4 d·wk(-1) of resistance training on body composition and strength in middle-aged women. Twenty-one untrained women (age 47.6 ± 1.2 years) completed 8 weeks of resistance training either 3 nonconsecutive days of the week using a traditional total-body protocol (RT3) or 4 consecutive days of the week using an alternating split-training protocol (RT4). The RT3 completed 3 sets of 8 exercises, whereas RT4 completed 3 sets of 6 upper body exercises or 6 sets of 3 lower body exercises. Both groups completed 72 sets per week of 8-12 repetitions at 50-80% 1 repetition maximum. Weekly training volume load was calculated as the total number of repetitions × load (kg) completed per week. Body composition was measured using air displacement plethysmography. At baseline and after 8 weeks of resistance training, there were no significant between-group differences. Both protocols resulted in significant increases in absolute lean mass (1.1 ± 0.3 kg; p = 0.001), body weight (1.02 ± 0.3 kg; p = 0.005), body mass index (0.3 ± 0.1 kg·m(-2); p = 0.006), strength (p < 0.001), and weekly training volume load (p < 0.001). Correlation analysis revealed that weekly training volume load was strongly and positively related to gains in lean mass (r = 0.56, p = 0.05) and strength (r = 0.60, p = 0.006). In these untrained, middle-aged women, initial short-term gains in lean mass and strength were not influenced by training frequency when the number of training sets per week was equated.  相似文献

Circuit training effectively reduces the time devoted to strength training while allowing an adequate training volume to be achieved. Nonetheless, circuit training has traditionally been performed using relatively low loads for a relatively high number of repetitions, which is not conducive to maximal muscle size and strength gain. This investigation compared physical performance parameters and cardiovascular load during heavy-resistance circuit (HRC) training to the responses during a traditional, passive rest strength training set (TS). Ten healthy subjects (age, 26 +/- 1.6 years; weight, 80.2 +/- 8.78 kg) with strength training experience volunteered for the study. Testing was performed once weekly for 3 weeks. On day 1, subjects were familiarized with the test and training exercises. On the subsequent 2 test days, subjects performed 1 of 2 strength training programs: HRC (5 sets x (bench press + leg extensions + ankle extensions); 35-second interset rest; 6 repetition maximum [6RM] loads) or TS (5 sets x bench press; 3-minute interset rest, 6RM loads). The data confirm that the maximum and average bar velocity and power and the number of repetitions performed of the bench press in the 2 conditions was the same; however, the average heart rate was significantly greater in the HRC compared to the TS condition (HRC = 129 +/- 15.6 beats x min(-1), approximately 71% maximum heart rate (HRmax), TS = 113 +/- 13.1 beats x min(-1), approximately 62% HRmax; P < 0.05). Thus, HRC sets are quantitatively similar to traditional strength training sets, but the cardiovascular load is substantially greater. HRC may be an effective training strategy for the promotion of both strength and cardiovascular adaptations.  相似文献

Our previous work has demonstrated that professional athletes show protocol-dependent variability in salivary testosterone (T) responses to resistance exercise (RE). The current study examines the consistency and functional outcomes of prescribing a RE regimen based on T response. We hypothesized that prescribing an individual-specific RE protocol based on T response would enhance weight training gains. Sixteen amateur rugby players [(mean +/- SD) age: 20 +/- 2 years; height: 181.5 +/- 8.2 cm; weight: 94.2 +/- 11.1 kg] were characterized by their maximal (Tmax) and minimal (Tmin) T response to four RE protocols: four sets of 10 repetitions (reps) at 70% of one repetition maximum (1RM) with 2 minutes' rest between sets (4 x10-70%); three sets of five reps at 85% 1RM with 3 minutes' rest (3 x 5-85%); five sets of 15 reps at 55% of 1RM with 1 minute's rest (5 x 15-55%); and three sets of 5 reps at 40% 1RM with 3 minutes' rest (3 x 5-40%). Eight athletes then performed a 3-week training block performing only their Tmax protocol. The remaining eight only performed Tmin. After 3 weeks, the athletes were retested on the RE protocols and then crossed over and performed the alternate 3-week training block. All 16 athletes showed significant increases in estimated bench and leg press 1RM strength and bodyweight while performing Tmax. When Tmin was performed, 75% of athletes showed either no change or a significant decline in 1RM performance. Consistent protocol-responses over the experimental period were seen for both the Tmax and Tmin protocols in 12 of 16 athletes. Thus, a relationship between an individual's biologically available T response to RE and enhanced functional gains is reported.  相似文献

为了探讨高原鼢鼠和高原鼠兔心脏对低氧环境的适应机制,以Sprague-Dawley (SD)大鼠为对照,测量三者的心脏/体重比(HW/BW)、右心室/(左心室 室间隔)重量比[RV/(LV S)];应用免疫组织化学方法测定心肌微血管密度(microvessel density, MVD);通过显微体视学技术比较线粒体的面数密度(NA,单位面积中线粒体数目)、体密度(Vv,单位体积心肌纤维中线粒体的体积密度)、面密度(Sv,单位体积心肌纤维中线粒体外膜的面积密度)、比表面(δ,线粒体外膜面积与其自身体积的比);用分光光度法测定心肌中的肌红蛋白(myoglobin, Mb)含量、乳酸(lactic acid, LD)含量和乳酸脱氢酶(lactate dehydrogenase, LDH)活力;聚丙烯酰胺凝胶电泳观察LDH同工酶谱.结果显示:高原鼢鼠和高原鼠兔HB/WB显著大于SD大鼠(P<0.05), RV/(LV S)显著小于SD大鼠(P<0.05).高原鼢鼠、高原鼠兔和SD大鼠心肌MVD和线粒体NA依次递减(P<0.05);高原鼢鼠线粒体Vv显著低于高原鼠兔和SD大鼠(P<0.05),高原鼠兔与SD大鼠之间没有明显差异;高原鼢鼠线粒体Sv显著高于SD大鼠(P<0.05),与高原鼠兔相比无明显差异;高原鼠兔和SD大鼠的线粒体δ无显著差异,但均明显低于高原鼢鼠(P<0.05).高原鼢鼠和高原鼠兔心肌Mb含量显著高于SD大鼠(P<0.05);高原鼢鼠心肌LD含量显著高于高原鼠兔和SD大鼠(P<0.05);两种高原动物心肌LDH活力显著低于SD大鼠(P<0.05).同工酶谱显示,高原鼢鼠、高原鼠兔和SD大鼠的LDH中H亚基所占比例依次递减.以上结果提示,高原鼢鼠和高原鼠兔通过增加心肌线粒体Sv、MVD以及Mb含量提高其在低氧环境获取氧的能力;同时,由于生境和习性上的不同,两者线粒体指标又表现出差异性.  相似文献

The effect of muscle hypertrophy on the relationship between magnetic resonance (MR) relaxation time and muscle fibre composition was investigated. Relaxation time and muscle fibre composition were measured in five subjects before and after a 20-week period of strength training. Muscle fibre composition in all subjects exhibited a significant shift to a predominance of fast-twitch (FT) fibres as a result of 20-week strength training (% area FT fibres: mean values from 49.8%, SD 17.9% to 57%, SD 5.6%; P less than 0.05). Longitudinal relaxation time (T1) and transverse relaxation time (T2) were prolonged significantly after strength training (T1 mean values from 334.9 ms, SD 13.6 to 359.0 ms, SD 9.0, P less than 0.001; T2 from 27.5 ms, SD 0.9 to 30.8 ms, SD 2.3, P less than 0.05). A constant relationship was observed in changes caused by strength training in muscle fibre composition (% area FT) and relaxation time, with a high correlation obtained between both parameters. These results indicate that MR relaxation time can be used for non-invasive estimation of muscle fibre composition.  相似文献

Some research suggests that strength improvements are greater when resistance training continues to the point at which the individual cannot perform additional repetitions (i.e., repetition failure). Performing additional forced repetitions after the point of repetition failure and thus further increasing the set volume is a common resistance training practice. However, whether short-term use of this practice increases the magnitude of strength development with resistance training is unknown and was investigated here. Twelve basketball and 10 volleyball players trained 3 sessions per week for 6 weeks, completing either 4 x 6, 8 x 3, or 12 x 3 (sets x repetitions) of bench press per training session. Compared with the 8 x 3 group, the 4 x 6 protocol involved a longer work interval and the 12 x 3 protocol involved higher training volume, so each group was purposefully designed to elicit a different number of forced repetitions per training session. Subjects were tested on 3- and 6-repetition maximum (RM) bench press (81.5 +/- 9.8 and 75.9 +/- 9.0 kg, respectively, mean +/- SD), and 40-kg Smith Machine bench press throw power (589 +/- 100 W). The 4 x 6 and 12 x 3 groups had more forced repetitions per session (p < 0.01) than did the 8 x 3 group (4.1 +/- 2.6, 3.1 +/- 3.5, and 1.2 +/- 1.8 repetitions, respectively), whereas the 12 x 3 group performed approximately 40% greater work and had 30% greater concentric time. As expected, all groups improved 3RM (4.5 kg, 95% confidence limits, 3.1- 6.0), 6RM (4.7 kg, 3.1-6.3), bench press throw peak power (57 W, 22-92), and mean power (23 W, 4-42) (all p < or = 0.02). There were no significant differences in strength or power gains between groups. In conclusion, when repetition failure was reached, neither additional forced repetitions nor additional set volume further improved the magnitude of strength gains. This finding questions the efficacy of adding additional volume by use of forced repetitions in young athletes with moderate strength training experience.  相似文献

Pinnipeds rely on muscle oxygen stores to help support aerobic diving, therefore muscle maturation may influence the behavioral ecology of young pinnipeds. To investigate the pattern of muscle development, myoglobin concentration ([Mb]) and acid buffering ability (β) was measured in ten muscles from 23 harp and 40 hooded seals of various ages. Adult [Mb] ranged from 28–97 to 35–104 mg g tissue−1 in harp and hooded seals, respectively, with values increasing from the cervical, non-swimming muscles to the main swimming muscles of the lumbar region. Neonatal and weaned pup muscles exhibited lower (~30% adult values) and less variable [Mb] across the body than adults. In contrast, adult β showed little regional variation (60–90 slykes), while high pup values (~75% adult values) indicate significant in utero development. These findings suggest that intra-uterine conditions are sufficiently hypoxic to stimulate prenatal β development, but that [Mb] development requires additional postnatal signal such as exercise, and/or growth factors. However, because of limited development in both β and [Mb] during the nursing period, pups are weaned with muscles with lower aerobic and anaerobic capacities than those of adults.  相似文献

Muscle power, the product of force × velocity, is a critical determinant of function in older adults. Resistance training (RT) at high speed has been shown to improve peak muscle power in this population; however, different functional tasks may benefit from the improvement of power at values other than "peak" values, for example, tasks that require a greater velocity component or a greater force component. This study compared the effect of high-speed RT on muscle performance (peak power [PP] and its components [PP force and PP velocity] and overall peak velocity [VEL]) across a broad range of external resistances. Thirty-eight older men and women were randomized to high-speed power training at 40% of the 1-repetition maximum (1RM) (n = 13 [74.1 ± 6.4 years]); traditional RT at 80% 1RM (n = 13 [70.1 ± 7.0 years]); or control (n = 12 [72.8 ± 4.1 years]). Measures of muscle performance were obtained at baseline and after the 12-week training intervention. Muscle power and 1RM strength improved similarly with both high-speed and traditional slow-speed RT. However, speed-related muscle performance characteristics, PP velocity and overall VEL, were most positively impacted by high-speed power training, especially at lower external resistances. Because gains in speed-related measures with high-speed training compared to traditional RT do not come at the expense of other muscle performance outcomes, we recommend using an RT protocol in older adults that emphasizes high-speed movements at low external resistances.  相似文献

The purpose was to determine if creatine supplementation, consumed immediately before and immediately after exercise, with different dosing frequency (i.e., 2 or 3 d wk) could enhance the gains in muscle size and strength from resistance training (RT) in young adults. A group of 38 physically active, nonresistance trained university students (21-28 years) was randomly allocated to 1 of 4 groups: CR2 (0.15 g·kg creatine during 2 d wk of RT; 3 sets of 10 repetitions; n = 11, 6 men, 5 women), CR3 (0.10 g·kg creatine during 3 d wk of RT; 2 sets of 10 repetitions; n = 11, 6 men, 5 women;), PLA2 (placebo during 2 d wk of RT; n = 8, 5 men, 3 women), and PLA3 (placebo during 3 d wk of RT; n = 8, 4 men, 4 women) for 6 weeks. Before and after training, measurements were taken for muscle thickness of the elbow and knee flexor and extensor muscle groups (ultrasound), 1-repetition maximumleg press and chest press strength, and kidney function (urinary microalbumin). Repeated-measures analysis of variance showed that strength and muscle thickness increased in all groups with training (p < 0.05). The CR2 (0.6 ± 0.9 cm or 20%; p < 0.05) and CR3 groups (0.4 ± 0.6 cm or 16.4%; p < 0.05) experienced greater change in muscle thickness of the elbow flexors compared to the PLA2 (0.05 ± 0.5 cm or 2.3%) and PLA3 groups (0.13 ± 0.7 cm or 6.3%). Men supplementing with creatine experienced a greater increase in leg press strength (77.3 ± 51.2 kg or 62%) compared to women on creatine (21.3 ± 10 kg or 34%, p < 0.05). We conclude that creatine supplementation during RT has a small beneficial effect on regional muscle thickness in young adults but that giving the creatine over 3 d wk did not differ from giving the same dose over 2 d wk.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine 10 weeks of creatine monohydrate (Cr) supplementation coupled with resistance training on body composition and strength in women trainees. Twenty-six subjects ingested Cr (n = 13) or a placebo (Pl) (n = 13) at a dose of 0.3 g.kg(-1) and 0.03 g.kg(-1) body mass for the initial 7 days and subsequent 9 weeks, respectively, while performing a resistance training program 4 days per week. Significant increases (p < 0.05) occurred in both groups for lean body mass and 1 repetition maximum (1RM) bench press and incline leg press. There was a significant main effect for training, but there was no significant difference in the total number of repetitions completed after 5 sets of multiple repetitions to exhaustion at 70% of 1RM for bench press and incline leg press for both groups or in the ability to perform a greater training volume (sets x repetitions x load) in the Cr vs. Pl groups over the 10 weeks. The results indicate that Cr supplementation combined with 10 weeks of concurrent resistance training may not improve strength or lean body mass greater than training only. These findings may be a result of nonresponders due to gender differences or a varying biological potential to uptake Cr within the muscle.  相似文献

It is well established that resistance exercise can damage muscle tissue, but the combined effects of hypohydration and resistance exercise on muscle damage are unclear. Two common circulating markers of muscle damage, myoglobin (Mb) and creatine kinase (CK) may be attenuated by fluid ingestion post-exercise. The purpose of this study was to examine the combined effect of resistance exercise and hydration state on muscle damage. Seven healthy resistance-trained males (age = 23 +/- 4 years; body mass = 87.8 +/- 6.8 kg; body fat = 11.5 +/- 5.2%) completed 3 identical resistance exercise bouts (6 sets of up to 10 repetitions of the back squat) in different hydration states: euhydrated (HY0), hypohydrated approximately 2.5% body mass (HY2.5), and hypohydrated approximately 5.0% body mass (HY5). Subjects achieved desired hydration states via controlled water deprivation, exercise-heat stress, and fluid intake. Both Mb and CK were measured during euhydrated rest (PRE). Mb was also measured immediately post-exercise, 1 hour (+1H) and 2 hours (+2H) post-exercise; CK was measured at 24 and 48 hours post-exercise. Body mass decreased 0.2 +/- 0.4%, 2.4 +/- 0.4%, and 4.8 +/- 0.4% during HY0, HY2.5, and HY5, respectively. Mb concentrations increased significantly (effect size >or=1, p < 0.05) from PRE (2.6 +/- 1.1, 3.5 +/- 2.8, and 3.2 +/- 1.6 nmol x L(-1)) to +1H (5.3 +/- 3.4, 6.8 +/- 3.2, and 7.6 +/- 2.8 nmol x L(-1)), and +2H (5.5 +/- 3.8, 6.2 +/- 3.0, and 7.2 +/- 3.0 nmol x L(-1)) for HY0, HY2.5, and HY5, respectively, but were not significantly different between trials. CK concentrations remained within the normal resting range at all time points. Thus, hypohydration did not enhance muscle damage following the resistance exercise challenge. Despite these results, athletes are encouraged to commence exercise in a euhydrated state to maximize endogenous hormonal, mechanical, and metabolic benefits.  相似文献

A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) procedure is described for the determination of myoglobin in extracts of small samples of tissue from the three different fibre types in the swimming muscles of three species of sharks, Etmopterus spinax, Galeus melastomus and Scyliorhinus canicula . The method, which is based on the separation of myoglobin from haemoglobin from haemoglobin based on HPLC using a gel permeation chromatography column, has a detection limit of about 3 pmol myoglobin (Mb). In addition it has the added advantage of specific identification by its Soret band absorption and quantification. In all three species, the three fibre types of the muscle are completely separated and can be isolated at a high degree of purity. In red fibres the myoglobin content varied between 565 nmol mg−1 wet weight ( Scyliorhinus ) and 170 nmol mg−1 wet weight ( Galeus ). Intermediate fibres contained from 215 to 57, and white fibres from 11 to zero nmol mg−1 wet weight. The myoglobin content is closely correlated to the vascularization as well as to the amounts of mitochondria in the different fibre types.  相似文献
