Santa Cruz and El Gambute, two mangrove systems with associated tidal flats, were sampled in Coiba National Park, Coiba Island, Pacific of Panama. At each site, two samplings were done at low, middle and high intertidal levels in February and November of 1997. A new orbiniid species were found: Orbinia oligopapillata n. sp. is characterized by having 15-16 thoracic chaetigers with four or five rows of uncini and up to three papilliform postchaetal processes on neuropodial lobes by the abdominal parapodia bearing flail-tipped neurochaetae, and by the presence on anterior-most abdominal chaetigers of interramal cirri and a low number of subpodial and stomach papillae. A specimen belonging to genus Leitoscoloplos Day, 1977 is described as "Leitoscoloplos sp.", characterized by the lateral pouches on its abdominal chaetigers, a unique case for the family because these brooding structures have only been previously cited in two species of Scoloplos. Naineris sp. is characterized by the number of its thoracic chaetigers, branchiae, uncini and bilobed abdominal neuropodia with protruding aciculae.  相似文献

Two species of heterophyid cercariae, cercaria of Haplorchis taichui and Haplorchis pumilio are obtained from Thiara tuberculata from Visakhapatnam, India. This is the first report of cercariae of both the parasites from India. The characteristic features of H. taichui cercaria are the presence of two sets--one set of lateral and other dorsoventral cuadal finfolds, 15 acicular spines in three alternating rows and seven pairs of lobed penetration glands arranged in two longitudinal rows. H. pumilio cercaria is characterized by the presence of two sets of caudal finfolds, 15 acicular spines in three alternating rows and seven pairs of voluminous unicellular penetration glands.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Tonnoideans are marine carnivorous caenogastropods that prey on different invertebrates, namely polychaetes, sipunculids, bivalve and gastropod molluscs, and echinoderms. The morphology of the digestive system of 20 species from five families of the Tonnoidea was examined (for most of these species for the first time), and the salivary glands of six of them were studied using serial histological sections. Most of the studied families are rather similar anatomically, except Personidae (Distorsio), which differs both in proboscis morphology and the structure of the salivary glands. In most tonnoideans the salivary glands are split morphologically and functionally into anterior and posterior lobes, the latter synthesising strong sulfuric acid. The ducts of the posterior lobes are lined with non-ciliated epithelium and receive usually paired ciliated ducts from the anterior lobes to form a non-ciliated common duct, opening into the buccal cavity. In Personidae, the salivary glands are not separated into lobes, but are instead composed of ramifying tubules that are histologically different in the proximal and distal parts. Radulae of Tonnoidea are rather variable, with different patterns of interlocking teeth, both in the transverse and longitudinal rows, which may be related to particular feeding mechanisms. Due to the peculiarities of Personidae, the close relationship between that family and the rest of the Tonnoidea is questioned.  相似文献

Females and males of Rhinoglena frontalis (Monogononta, Epiphanidae) are observed by SEM and their external morphologies are compared. The two sexes differ in size and shape of the body. The female body is fusiform with a short, conical foot, while the male body is more slender and has a rather long foot. The rotatory apparatus (or corona) of both sexes is similar with only minor differences and consists of rows and tufts of cilia arranged around the mouth opening. The corona is made of two paired lobes lateral to the mouth and of a third prominent dorsal lobe, usually called proboscis. The three lobes are lined externally by dense rows of cilia, which constitute the cingulum, used for swimming. The central surface of the proboscis is covered with numerous longitudinal rows of cilia bent towards the mouth. The lateral lobes show, on their central surfaces, two concentric arcs of cirri (made of tightly packed cilia) bent towards the mouth. The similar organization of the rotatory apparatus of both sexes is related to the fact that the male, in this species, is able to feed and has a developed mastax and digestive system. The trophi of both sexes are illustrated and compared.  相似文献

Gametophytes of 12 species of the family Thelypteridaceae were investigated with Cryo-SEM and conventional SEM. Most of the species have rounded front lobes and rounded lobes extending backwards. Metathelypteris flaccida has a cordate game-tophyte. All species have glandular hairs, which are of different length and could be used as diagnostic character in some cases. In addition 7 of the species investigated have acicular hairs. In Thelypteris confluens the glandular hairs on margins and surfaces are born on cells that protrude from the surrounding cells. It is concluded that the combination of characters makes it possible to distinguish species of different genera with the help of gametophyte characters only.  相似文献

Meloidogyne cruciani n. sp. infecting tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) in the U.S. Virgin Islands is described and illustrated. M. cruciani is distinguished from other species of the genus by having punctations around the anus of the female and by the second-stage juveniles possessing tri-lobed esophageal glands which are longer than most other species, with their posterier end at about 46.4% of the body length. The esophageal glands of the immature and adult females are contained in five separate lobes.  相似文献

Anatomically the brachiopterygian organum olfactus is unique among craniates. As revealed by the present study of Polypterus senegalus , it consists of an incurrent and an excurrent tube, a body and six lobes. Luminally these divisions are extensively covered with cilia, the actions of which cause water to flow through the organ. The proximal extremities of the two tubes communicate directly with one another, allowing water to bypass the body and the lobes. The body is subdivided by means of seven infolds into a central part and two peripheral parts. Of these, the central part directs water to the lobes; the peripheral parts drain the lobes and lead water to the excurrent tube. Each lobe has an axial portion and two rows of alternating lobuli. Interlobularly infolds of the axial portion subdivide the lobar lumen in such a way that movement of water is possible. Olfactory neurosensory cells occur in the rear of the incurrent tube, as well as in the lobes. Probably the degree of stimulation of the tubal receptors determines whether the water taken in is to bypass the lobes.  相似文献

This study examines the external and internal anatomy of the polypneustic (respiratory) lobes in 8 species of tsetse larvae (Diptera: Glossinidae). In the more primitive fusca group, the respiratory lobes are either ring-like (Glossina longipennis) or partially divided into 2 lobes (G. brevipalpis). Two distinctly separated lobes are present in the palpalis group (G. palpalis, G. tachinoides, G. fuscipes) and in the morsitans group (G. morsitans, G. pallidipes, G. austeni). Air enters the polypneustic lobes through narrow slits (stigmata) on the tips of numerous small spiracular papillae that are arranged in rows on both the outer and inner surfaces of the polypneustic lobes. The openings on the spiracular papillae connect to an air tube that is sculptured with septa and pegs. The air tubes connect to an outer air chamber that is likewise replete with a network of pegged septa. The outer air chamber is connected to a felt chamber containing a dense network of filamentous septa (spicules) that appear to function as an air filter. The felt chamber opens into a large, sculptured inner air chamber that connects directly to the regular tracheal trunk. The polypneustic lobes are unusually hard and brittle due to strong sclerotization of the cuticle and are permeated with numerous cuticular pores. There is no evidence that trichomes or other structures present on the respiratory lobes are innervated.  相似文献

In two species of Heterodontus, H. portusjacksoni and H. galeatus, the first scales to develop form two opposing rows along the caudal fin axis on both the left and right sides of the fin. The opposing rows originate from an initial scale located on either side of the posterior tip of the caudal fin, with subsequent scales erupting in a posterior to anterior direction along the tail axis. These scale rows may strengthen tail movements, providing aeration in the egg case, but are lost later in ontogeny. Development of subsequent body scales shows a more irregular origin and arrangement, from anterior to posterior, to cover the dorsal and ventral lobes of the caudal fin. Although the early developmental pattern of the scale associated with the Heterodontus caudal fin has not been previously described, several chondrichthyan taxa, including chimeroids, likewise possess ordered rows of flank scales early in ontogeny that are subsequently lost. These ordered scales contrast with previous suggestions that chondrichthyan scale development is entirely random. Instead, regulated and sequential development of scales may be a plesiomorphic character for both chondrichthyans and osteichthyans, with the less organized arrangement in later ontogenetic stages being a derived condition within Chondrichthyes.  相似文献

The microthrix pattern of larvae of Pseudogilquinia thomasi (Palm, 2000) is described for the first time using scanning electron microscopy. The surface ultrastructure of this species consists of three main forms of microtriches: papilliform filitriches, acicular filitriches and quadridigitate to octadigitate palmate spinitriches. The bothria are covered with palmate spinitriches interspersed on some parts with papilliform filitriches. Palmate spinitriches with papilliform, acicular and capilliform filitriches adorn the pars vaginalis and at the anterior part of the pars bulbosa, there is a transition zone in which the palmate spinitriches are replaced by papilliform to acicular filitriches towards the end of the scolex. ANOVA tests with Duncan's post hoc analyses revealed that there are significant differences in the length of spinitriches and their prongs, whether on the surfaces of the bothria or on the surfaces of the scolex peduncle. Callitetrarhynchus gracilis Pintner, 1931 is the second lacistorhynchid species for which surfaces of the segments were examined and the occurrence of large structures called scutes are reported for the first time from this species. There were also significant differences in the base length as well as height of the scutes in different parts of the strobila. In addition to describing the surface ultrastructures of the two lacistorhynchid species, all the available information on the microtriches within the family Lacistorhynchidae is reviewed herein and generic diagnoses related to microtriches are amended. Abstract

Sporelings of Lejeunea caespitosa Lindenb. usually form a primary protonema of a single row of four cells, and a secondary protonema at first of two rows, and eventually of four rows of cells. The juvenile stem with two dorsal and three ventral rows of cells produces simple undivided underleaves and elobulate primary leaves or, later, lobulate juvenile leaves of which well developed lobules nearly equal the lobes in size. Specific proteins are produced in different parts of the salivary glands of female Anopheles and Culex. In both species there are concentrated low molecular weight proteins in the median lobes and proteins in the mol. wt range 25,000–60,000 in the distal parts of the lateral lobes. These proteins are not identical in the two species. In the proximal parts of the lateral lobe there are only small amounts of protein in addition to an unknown high molecular weight substance. At the time of blood-sucking 15–35% of soluble gland proteins are injected with the saliva into the host animal, the proteins from the median lobes and the proximal part of the lateral lobes being released in greater quantities than the proteins from the distal parts of the lateral lobes. The typical gland proteins are only extractable in low concentrations from the salivary glands of the newly-hatched adult mosquito, they increase up to the 7th day of the adult development and are stored in the glands.  相似文献

A new species, Pleurotricha indica n. sp., is described, characterized by an average size of 220 × 119 μm, a firm and inflexible body, six rows of dorsal kineties, one left and two right rows of marginal cirri, and an “Oxytricha-like” pattern of ventral cirri. The parts of the macronucleus are variable in shape and number. The comparison with other members of the genus shows that P. indica differs from other congeneric species in the combination of these characters.  相似文献

A new marine benthic, sand‐dwelling Prorocentrum species from the temperate region of the Pacific coast of British Columbia, Canada, is described using LM and EM and molecular phylogenetic analyses. The cells have a broad oval shape, 40.0–55.0 μm long and 30.0–47.5 μm wide, and a wide U‐shaped periflagellar area on the right thecal plate. The left thecal plate consists of a straighter apical outline in the form of a raised ridge. Five to six delicate apical spines in the center of the periflagellar area are present. The nucleus is located in the posterior region of the cell, and a conspicuous pusule is located in the anterior region of the cell. The cells have golden‐brown chloroplasts with a compound, intrachloroplast pyrenoid that lacks a starch sheath. The thecal plates are smooth with round pores of two different sizes. The larger pores are arranged in a specific pattern of radial rows that are evenly spaced around the plate periphery and of irregular rows (or double rows) that form an incomplete “V” at the apical end of the plates. Large pores are absent in the center of the left and right thecal plates. The intercalary band is striated transversely and also has faint horizontal striations. Trichocysts and two types of mucocysts are present. The molecular phylogenetic position of Prorocentrum tsawwassenense sp. nov. was inferred using SSU rDNA sequences. This new species branched with high support in a Prorocentrum clade containing both benthic and planktonic species.  相似文献

Hatschekia khahajya n. sp. is described from the gill filaments of two monacanthid fishes, Cantherhines dumerilii (Hollard) and Amanses scopes (Cuvier), caught off Okinawa, Japan. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by the possession of the following combination of characters: cephalothorax length/trunk length ratio greater than 0.40; cephalothorax with a pair of lateral bars on the chitinous ring and a posterior pair of surface ridges; trunk with a bifurcate chitinous frame extending over its anterior third and with well-developed posterior lobes that extend beyond the abdomen; and four processes plus two spinular rows on the distal margin of the intercoxal sclerite of legs 1 and 2.  相似文献

The salivary glands of 2 leafhoppers, Circulifer tenellus and Dalbulus maidis (Homoptera : Cicadellidae) were examined by light and electron microscopy. Centrally located and occupying both the head and thorax, the salivary glands consist of 2 paired parts, the accessory glands and the principal glands. In C. tenellus and D. maidis, the accessory glands are large, multicelled lobes that lie anterior to the principal gland. They join the principal glands near the common salivary duct-gland junction via a thinner tubular duct. The principal glands of both species consist of large binucleate cells that differ in cytology and arrangement. These cells are easily distinguished by unique staining characteristics. Circulifer tenellus salivary gland cells are arranged in 2 lobes, the anterior lobe, made up of 3 concentric rings around the salivary duct and the posterior lobe, arranged in a loose pyramid extending above the foregut. Dalbulus maidis glands are similarly organized around the salivary duct.  相似文献

Two new species of Leporinus are described from tributaries of the Rio Amazonas in Brazil. One species is known from the Jari and Tapajós River basins, and is identified on the basis of a gas bladder reduced in size, a dark midlateral stripe on the body, dark transverse bars on the dorsum, a subinferior mouth, three teeth on the premaxilla, four teeth on the dentary and 16 scale rows around the caudal peduncle. The second new species is known from the Tocantins, Xingu and Tapajós River basins, and is identified on the basis of three dark longitudinal stripes on the body, a subinferior mouth, three teeth on the premaxilla, four teeth on the dentary and 12 scale rows around the caudal peduncle. In addition, Leporinus striatus is redescribed based on type and additional specimens from the Río de La Plata, Amazonas, Orinoco, Atrato, Magdalena and Sinu River basins. Leporinus striatus is identified on the basis of four dark longitudinal stripes on the body, a subterminal mouth, three teeth on the premaxilla, four teeth on the dentary and 16 scale rows around the caudal peduncle.  相似文献

Four new species of blackflies (Diptera: Simuliidae) are described. Helodon rezidentsii Yankovsky, sp. n., Khabarovsk Territory, differs from all known species of the genus with morphology of eyes consisting only of microommatidii in male; from related species H. kamtshaticus (Rubzov, 1940) with large triangular posteromedial lobes of branches of genital fork in female; with number of rays of primary fan of premandibles (20-22, when in H. kamtshaticus 30-32) in larva. Helodon submulticaulis Yankovsky, sp. n., Transbaikalia, differs from related species H. multicaulis (Popov, 1968) with number of rays of primary fan of mandibles (36-40, when in H. multicaulis 26-28), narrow anterior branches of anal sclerite, number of rows of hooks in posterior attachment organ (88-92, when in H. multicaulis 78-80) in larva; with morphology of respiratory organ, consisting of 5-8 lobes bearing 40-60 tune filaments (in H. multicaulis 3-4 lobes bearing more than 150 filaments) in pupa. Sch. samarkandica Yankovsky, sp. n., Uzbekistan, differs from related species Sch. pseudopusilla Rubzov, 1956 with 3 (not 2 as in Sch. pseudopusilla) hooks in parameres, bifurcated lateral branches of X sternite, long projection of gonostyles in male. Schoenbaueria ivdelensis Yankovsky, sp. n., Middle Ural, differs from related species Sch. rangiferina (Rubzov, 1956) with prolonged gonostyles bearing narrow projection in male; with number of rays of secondary fan of premandibles (20-28, when in Sch. rangiferina 44-48), deep ventral groove of cephalic capsule, number of rows of hooks in posterior attachment organ (80-82, when in Sch. rangiferina 70-72) in larva; with morphology of respiratory organ (very long stems of 2 and 3 pairs of filaments) in pupa.  相似文献
