The intent of this study was to observe the effects of different treadmill running programs upon selected biochemical properties of soleus muscle from young rats. Young 10 day litter-mates were assigned to endurance (E), spring (S) and control (C) groups. Each was partitioned into either 21 or 51 day exercising groups and 10 day controls. For C the myofibril ATPase activity at 21 and 51 days were lower than 10 day activity (p less than or equal to 0.05). In the 51 day E group ATPase activity (0.378 +/- 0.009 mumol Pi X mg-1 X min-1) was greater than at 10 and 21 days (0.307 +/- 0.006 and 0.323 +/- 0.008 mumol Pi X mg-1 X min-1) (p less than or equal to 0.05). No change occurred in the S group from 10 to 21 and 51 days (p greater than or equal to 0.05). Both the 21 and 51 day S (0.318 +/- 0.011 and 0.399 +/- 0.010 mumol Pi X mg-1 X min-1) and E (0.323 +/- 0.008 and 0.378 +/- 0.009 mumol Pi X mg-1 X min-1) groups had higher activity compared to the C group (0.193 +/- 0.029 and 0.172 +/- 0.031 mumol Pi X mg-1 X min-1) (p less than or equal to 0.05). Maturation (10--51 day) resulted in a lowered sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) yield and Ca2+ binding (p less than or equal to 0.05) while Ca2+ uptake ability did not change (p greater than or equal to 0.05). SR yield, Ca2+ binding and uptake were not altered with S training (p greater than or equal to 0.05). The E training resulted in greater Ca2+ uptake at 51 days compared to C and S (p less than or equal to 0.05), with no change in Ca2+ binding (p greater than or equal to 0.05). The data suggest that E training alters the normal development pattern of young rat soleus muscle.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine if normal subjects could be trained to attenuate their cardiovascular responses while exercising on a bicycle ergometer. Ten young, untrained subjects exercised on a bicycle ergometer for five sessions. Half of the group was asked to slow their heart rate while exercising with heart rate feedback during exercise. Their average heart rate increase was 20% less than that of the control subjects, who exercised without feedback. The control subjects subsequently also received feedback during exercise and they were able to attenuate their heart rate responses comparably. Systolic blood pressure was not affected by feedback training. Changes in rate-pressure product paralleled changes in heart rate. These data show that autonomically mediated adjustments to exercise can be brought under experimental control through the use of appropriate behavioral techniques.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to test the reproducibility of plasma norepinephrine (NE) and epinephrine (E) concentrations, at rest and during exercise, in man. Twelve young men were evaluated on two occasions (one week apart) at rest in supine and sitting positions and during dynamic exercise on bicycle ergometer: 5 min at a low intensity workload (heart rate = 131-133 bt min-1) and 5 and 20 min at a higher intensity (174-175 bt min-1). Mean plasma NE and E concentrations were not significantly different (p less than 0.05) on the two occasions in any of the experimental situations. However large within-subject variations were present, and the "standard errors of a single measurement" corrected for the variability of the catecholamine assay, ranged from 14 to 50% for NE and 14 to 37% for E. These results indicate that the mean plasma NE and E concentrations observed in a group of subjects are reproducible from one week to the other, but that individual plasma NE and E concentrations are not. This lack of reliability of a single determination of plasma catecholamine concentrations might be due to cyclic variations of plasma NE and E concentrations over time.  相似文献

Dynamic exercise training of the elderly increases maximal O2 uptake (VO2max); however, the effects of training on the ventilation threshold (VET) have not been studied. VET was identified as the final point before the ventilatory equivalent for O2 (VE/VO2) increased, without an increase in the ventilatory equivalent for CO2 (VE/VCO2). Inactive elderly males (mean age, 62 yr) were randomly assigned to a control (C, n = 44) or activity (A, n = 45) group. VO2max and VET were determined from an incremental treadmill test. Initial VO2max was not different between the C (2.34 +/- 0.42 l X min-1) and A (2.28 +/- 0.44 l X min-1) groups, nor was there a significant difference in the VO2 at the VET (C = 1.39 +/- 0.26 l X min-1; A = 1.31 +/- 0.23 l X min-1). The activity group trained for 30 min/day, 3 days/wk at an intensity of approximately 65-80% of VO2max. After 1 yr of training the activity group exhibited an 18% increase in VO2max (A = 2.70 +/- 0.54 l X min-1), but the change in VET was not significant (A = 1.39 +/- 0.28 l X min-1). There was no significant change in VO2max (C = 2.45 +/- 0.68 l X min-1) or VET (C = 1.38 +/- 0.31 l X min-1) in the control group. VET/VO2max declined significantly in the activity group (from 58 to 52% of VO2max). Change in VET/VO2max with training was not correlated with the initial VO2max value. We conclude that increases in aerobic capacity are more readily effected than alterations of the VET in elderly subjects.  相似文献

Thirty-four student volunteers were randomly assigned to one of three feedback sensitivity conditions: high sensitivity, medium sensitivity, or low sensitivity. Each subject received four sessions of biofeedback training with instructions to accelerate heart rate. In each condition, analogue feedback was provided during heart-rate acceleration trials. In addition to heart rate, frontal EMG and digital skin temperature were also recorded. Results replicated and extended the findings of a previous study in that medium and low sensitivity feedback was found to be superior to high sensitivity feedback during the final training session. These results confirm previous findings that a high sensitivity feedback produces very poor control of heart-rate acceleration. These data were discussed in terms of motor skills theory and in terms of possible effects of feedback sensitivity upon the motivation of subjects.  相似文献

This study investigated the rectal (Tre), esophageal (Tes), and skin (Tsk) temperature changes in a group of trained traumatic paraplegic men pushing their own wheelchairs on a motor-driven treadmill for a prolonged period in a neutral environment. There were two experiments. The first experiment (Tre and Tsk) involved a homogeneous group (T10-T12/L3) of highly trained paraplegic men [maximum O2 uptake (VO2max) 47.5 +/- 1.8 ml.kg-1.min-1] exercising for 80 min at 60-65% VO2max.Tre and Tsk (head, arm, thigh, and calf) and heart rate (HR) were recorded throughout. O2 uptake (VO2), minute ventilation (VE), CO2 production (VCO2), and heart rate (HR) were recorded at four intervals. During experiment 1 significant changes in HR and insignificant changes in VCO2, VE, and VO2 occurred throughout prolonged exercise. Tre increased significantly from 37.1 +/- 0.1 degrees C (rest) to 37.8 +/- 0.1 degrees C after 80 min of exercise. There were only significant changes in arm Tsk. Experiment 2 involved a nonhomogeneous group (T5-T10/T11) of active paraplegics (VO2max 39.9 +/- 4.3 ml.kg-1.min-1) exercising at 60-65% VO2max for up to 45 min on the treadmill while Tre and Tes were simultaneously recorded. Tes rose significantly faster than Tre during exercise (dT/dt 20 min: Tes 0.050 +/- 0.003 degrees C/min and Tre 0.019 +/- 0.005 degrees C/min), and Tes declined significantly faster than Tre at the end of exercise. Tes was significantly higher than Tre at the end of exercise. Our results suggest that during wheelchair propulsion by paraplegics, Tes may be a better estimate of core temperature than Tre.  相似文献

Exercise training has been found to increase coronary vascularity of the heart in experimental animals. Maximum coronary flow and minimum coronary resistance were determined in 16 dogs with the injection of microspheres (15 micron) into the left atrium at rest and during the intravenous infusion of adenosine (0.7 mg X min-1 X kg-1). Heart rate was paced at 150 beats/min. Dogs were divided into three groups with microsphere injections made before and after 4-5 wk of daily exercise (group 1); before and after 8-10 wk of daily exercise (group II); and before and after 8-10 wk of cage rest (group III). Results of average left ventricular maximum myocardial flow before and after daily exercise were 4.08 +/- 0.34 and 4.89 +/- 0.33 ml X min-1 X g-1 for group I, 5.13 +/- 0.32 and 5.55 +/- 0.56 ml X min-1 X g-1 for group II, and 5.24 +/- 0.43 and 4.34 +/- 0.55 ml X min-1 X g-1 for group III. Arterial pressure, maximum coronary flow, and minimum coronary resistance were not significantly different before and after any condition in all three groups of dogs. Peak reactive hyperemia coronary flow was not altered by daily exercise. These results indicate that maximum coronary flow and minimum coronary resistance were not altered by either 4-5 or 8-10 wk of exercise training.  相似文献

Eight subjects were taught to decrease their heart rates via biofeedback training. Four of these received contingently faded, beat-by-beat analogue feedback and contingent reinforcement each time their performance met a specified and adjusting criterion. The other four received continuous, beat-by-beat analogue feedback, but not the contingent reinforcement. Subjects in the two groups were yoked to ensure equal densities of reinforcement. Subjects in the first group were asked to decrease heart rates 15% from baseline and were then trained using only 75%, 50% and 25% of beat-by-beat feedback. It was hypothesized that the immediate reinforcement of appropriate behavior and the contingent fading(following mastery) of feedback would aid in the generalization of the response. Following completion of all criterion steps or 10 training sessions, whichever came first, all subjects were tested with no feedback and no contingent reinforcement. The group receiving contingently faded feedback training showed a significantly greater heart rate decrease in the training sessions and also the test session. These results were interpreted as indicating that biofeedback can be conceptualized as an operant conditioning paradigm, and that the use of operant techniques may help subjects produce clinically significant changes.This research was supported in part by a grant to Robert J. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of continuous and interval training on changes in lactate and ventilatory thresholds during incremental exercise. Seventeen males were assigned to one of three training groups: group 1:55 min continuous exercise at approximately 50% maximum O2 consumption (VO2max); group 2: 35 min continuous exercise at approximately 70% VO2max; and group 3: 10 X 2-min intervals at approximately 105% VO2max interspersed with rest intervals of 2 min. All of the subjects were tested and trained on a cycle ergometer 3 day/wk for 8 wk. Lactate threshold (LT) and ventilatory threshold (VT) (in addition to maximal exercise measures) were determined using a standard incremental exercise test before and after 4 and 8 wk of training. VO2max increased significantly in all groups with no statistically significant differences between the groups. Increases (+/- SE) in LT (ml O2 X min-1) for group 1 (569 +/- 158), group 2 (584 +/- 125), and group 3 (533 +/- 88) were significant (P less than 0.05) and of the same magnitude. VT also increased significantly (P less than 0.05) in each group. However, the increase in VT (ml O2 X min-1) for group 3 (699 +/- 85) was significantly greater (P less than 0.05) than the increases in VT for group 1 (224 +/- 52) and group 2 (404 +/- 85). For group 1, the posttraining increase in LT was significantly greater than the increase in VT (P less than 0.05). Plasma volume change during heavy-resistance weight lifting   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Blood samples were obtained from six young men before, and over a 60-min period following a bout of heavy-resistance weight lifting to determine changes in plasma volume. Weight lifting consisted of three sets of four exercises (arm curl, bench press, bent-arm row, and squat) performed using 70% of one-repetition maximum for as many repetitions as possible. Plasma volume change was determined from haematocrit and haemoglobin concentration. During weight lifting, mean oxygen uptake and heart rate were 1.96 L X min-1 and 158 bt X min-1, respectively. Plasma volume was decreased -14.3% (p less than 0.05) immediately following exercise and -7.0% (p less than 0.05) at 15 min into recovery, but had returned to the resting level within 30 min. It was concluded that heavy-resistance weight lifting elicits a significant decrease in plasma volume, which is similar in magnitude to that observed during running and cycling at 80-95% of maximal oxygen uptake.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to contrive a new practical method for estimating total O2 uptake during exercise from total heart beats after individual evaluation of aerobic fitness levels. Twenty healthy male subjects participated in cycle ergometer tests, maximal O2 uptake (VO2max) tests and various simple tests including simple endurance tests. From the cycle ergometer results, the following formula for estimating total O2 uptake in exercise was determined: TVO2 (ml X kg-1) = SR125 X (45.8 X mean HR + 4268) X THB X 10(-4) where TVO2, THB, and mean HR are total O2 uptake, total heart beats, and mean heart rate (beats X min-1) in exercise, respectively, and SR125 is the slope of the regression line between accumulated heart beats and accumulated O2 uptake during exercise at 125 beats X min-1 of mean HR. SR125 had a significant correlation not only with VO2max but also with each score (X) in any simple endurance tests such as, for example, a step test for 2 min. In this case, accordingly, SR125 can be found as; SR125 = -0.00118X + 0.3478. These formulae indicate that the total O2 uptake of any exercising subject can be estimated from his total heart beats regardless of intensities of exercise when his aerobic fitness level is evaluated by the simple endurance test. The total O2 uptake estimated by our method was compared to that measured by the Douglas bag method, and the discrepancy between the two results was less than the errors of values estimated by traditional methods.  相似文献

Effects of acute exercise and detraining on insulin action in trained men   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8  
Seven endurance-trained subjects [maximal O2 consumption (VO2max) 64 +/- 1 (SE) ml.min-1.kg-1] underwent sequential hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamps on three occasions: 1) in the "habitual state" 15 h after the last training bout (C), 2) after 60 min of bicycle exercise at 72 +/- 3% of VO2max performed in the habitual state (E), and 3) 5 days after the last ordinary training session (detrained, DT). Sensitivity for insulin-mediated whole-body glucose uptake was not affected by acute exercise [insulin concentrations eliciting 50% of maximal insulin-mediated glucose uptake being 44 +/- 2 (C) vs. 46 +/- 3 (E) microU/ml] but was decreased after detraining (54 +/- 2 microU/ml, P less than 0.05) to levels comparable to those found in untrained subjects [Am. J. Physiol. 254 (Endocrinol. Metab. 17): E248-E259, 1988]. Near-maximal insulin-mediated glucose uptake (responsiveness) was higher than in untrained subjects and not influenced by acute exercise or detraining [13.4 +/- 1.2 (C), 12.2 +/- 0.9 (E), and 12.2 +/- 0.3 (DT) mg.min-1.kg-1]. Calculated by indirect calorimetry, the glucose-to-glycogen conversion was not influenced by E but was reduced during detraining (P less than 0.05) yet remained higher than previously found in untrained subjects (P less than 0.05). However, only on E days did muscle glycogen increase during insulin infusion. Voluntary heart rate (HR) control during moderate exercise on a bicycle ergometer was studied in 10 healthy physically conditioned men (5 experimental and 5 control). The results showed that subjects could learn to attenuate the tachycardia of exercise while exercising at a steady work level of 60-70% of maximum HR. Experimental subjects who saw beat-to-beat displays of HR and were instructed to slow HR showed 22% less increase in HR than did control subjects who exercised without HR displays or instruction to slow HR (42.6 vs. 54.6 beats/min). When the control subjects were given feedback in additional sessions, they also decreased HR significantly by 9% (54.6 vs. 49.9 beats/min). Analyses of concomitant respiratory and metabolic data showed that HR attenuation was accompanied by decreased O2 consumption (P less than 0.06) and pulmonary ventilation (P less than 0.01). Rate pressure product also fell, indicating a decrease in myocardial O2 consumption. Comparisons among pre- and postsubmaximal and cardiovascular pulmonary and humoral responses during maximal test sessions suggested that the improvement in cardiopulmonary function during feedback training occurred with no sacrifice to working muscle requirements because blood lactate concentrations were similar. The attenuation of the HR response obtained in the present study indicates that feedback training in physically conditioned subjects can influence cardiovascular responses even under conditions of heavy local demands imposed by working muscles.  相似文献

During exercise in a hot environment, blood flow in the exercising muscles may be reduced in favour of the cutaneous circulation. The aim of our study was to examine whether an acute heat exposure (65-70 degrees C) in sauna conditions reduces the blood flow in forearm muscles during handgrip exercise in comparison to tests at thermoneutrality (25 degrees C). Nine healthy men performed dynamic handgrip exercise of the right hand by rhythmically squeezing a water-filled rubber tube at 13% (light), and at 34% (moderate) of maximal voluntary contraction. The left arm served as a control. The muscle blood flow was estimated as the difference in plethysmographic blood flow between the exercising and the control forearm. Skin blood flow was estimated by laser Doppler flowmetry in both forearms. Oesophageal temperature averaged 36.92 (SEM 0.08) degrees C at thermoneutrality, and 37.74 (SEM 0.07) degrees C (P less than 0.01) at the end of the heat stress. The corresponding values for heart rate were 58 (SEM 2) and 99 (SEM 5) beats.min-1 (P less than 0.01), respectively. At 25 degrees C, handgrip exercise increased blood flow in the exercising forearm above the control forearm by 6.0 (SEM 0.8) ml.100 ml-1.min-1 during light exercise, and by 17.9 (SEM 2.5) ml.100 ml-1.min-1 during moderate exercise. 1. Female Wistar rats were randomly assigned to control (C) or exercising (T) groups and subsequently portioned into 1, 3, 5 and 10 day T and C groups. The T groups completed a progressive endurance running program. Biochemical indices of adaptation were measured in cardiac muscle and in plantaris and soleus muscles of C and T animals after their last exercise bout. 2. In cardiac muscle, myofibrillar ATPase activity was significantly elevated in the 3T (0.241 +/- 0.031) and 5T (0.242 +/- 0.013) groups (P less than or equal to 0.05) compared to their respective controls (3C = 0.187 +/- 0.015 and 5C = 0.190 +/- 0.007). 3. After 10 days of training cardiac myofibrillar ATPase activity was elevated by 17% but this was not significant (P greater than or equal to 0.05). 4. No changes in myofibrillar ATPase activity were seen in skeletal muscle (P greater than or equal to 0.05), however, hexokinase activity progressively increased and was significantly elevated in the 3T, 5T and 10T soleus and plantaris muscles of rats over controls (P less than or equal to 0.05). 5. Minimal nonsignificant changes were noted in the hexokinase activity of the hearts of all T groups (P greater than or equal to 0.05). 6. These results indicate that metabolic adaptation of the heart and skeletal muscles takes place after as little as three training sessions. 7. Pulmonary gas exchange in humans during exercise at sea level   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Previous studies have shown both worsening ventilation-perfusion (VA/Q) relationships and the development of diffusion limitation during exercise at simulated altitude and suggested that similar changes could occur even at sea level. We used the multiple-inert gas-elimination technique to further study gas exchange during exercise in healthy subjects at sea level. Mixed expired and arterial respiratory and inert gas tensions, cardiac output, heart rate, minute ventilation, respiratory rate, and blood temperature were recorded at rest and during steady-state exercise in the following order: rest, minimal exercise (75 W), heavy exercise (300 W), heavy exercise breathing 100% O2, repeat rest, moderate exercise (225 W), and light exercise (150 W). Alveolar-to-arterial O2 tension difference increased linearly with O2 uptake (VO2) (6.1 Torr X min-1 X 1(-1) VO2). This could be fully explained by measured VA/Q inequality at mean VO2 less than 2.5 l X min-1. At higher VO2, the increase in alveolar-to-arterial O2 tension difference could not be explained by VA/Q inequality alone, suggesting the development of diffusion limitation. VA/Q inequality increased significantly during exercise (mean log SD of perfusion increased from 0.28 +/- 0.13 at rest to 0.58 +/- 0.30 at VO2 = 4.0 l X min-1, P less than 0.01). This increase was not reversed by 100% O2 breathing and appeared to persist at least transiently following exercise. These results confirm and extend the earlier suggestions (8, 21) of increasing VA/Q inequality and O2 diffusion limitation during heavy exercise at sea level in normal subjects and demonstrate that these changes are independent of the order of performance of exercise.  相似文献

The effects of 30 min of exercise (74.1 +/- 3.0% (VO2), on the responses of progesterone (P), estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH) were investigated in 10 women. With such exercise significant increments occurred in P (37.6 +/- 9.5%) and E2 (13.5 +/- 7.5%) (P less than 0.05), whereas no changes were observed in FSH and LH (p greater than 0.05). Exercise in the luteal phase and during menses provoked similar changes in P, but E2 concentrations remained unchanged when exercise occurred during menses (p greater than 0.05). With 8-11 weeks of training the menstrual cycles were quite irregular and retesting of subjects in the same phase of the cycle was not possible. Yet, when subjects were retested after training, no changes occurred in P, E2 or LH (p greater than 0.05) but a decrement did occur in FSH (p less than 0.10). Thus, heavy exercise in untrained subjects provokes significant increments in ovarian hormones, whereas no such increments are observed in trained subjects exercising at the same absolute workload.  相似文献

Twelve healthy well-trained participants in a supervised exercise program (mean age, 41.3 yr) were compared with 12 sedentary control subjects (mean age, 38.9 yr) with physical characteristics similar to the exercised group (EG) before training. Resting echocardiograms revealed significantly lower heart rates (HR) in the EG compared with control group (CG) but no evidence for cardiac structural differences between groups. Radionuclide angiograms performed at rest and during two levels of supine cycling (HR targets: 120 and 140 beats X min-1) resulted in increases in background-corrected end-diastolic counts [EDC(bc)] and confirmed use of the Frank-Starling mechanism in the majority of subjects. Mean values (+/- SD) for ejection fraction (EF) and normalized peak systolic ejection rate (PSER) (P greater than 0.05 between groups) were the following. (Formula: see text) The results suggested that fitness training does not induce significant cardiac enlargement as apparent from measurements at rest or important changes in contractile state during exercise. In the present study, after a total of 51 observations of a 30-min cycle exercise performed by 17 men ranging in age from 60 to 65 years, the following formula was finally obtained for evaluating total O2 uptake (TVO2) during exercise: TVO2 (ml.kg-1) = SR125 X (49.5 X mean HR + 3760) X THB X 10(-4), where mean HR and THB are mean heart rate (beats.min-1) and total heart beats in exercise, respectively, and SR125 is the slope of the regression line of accumulative O2 uptake on accumulative heart beats during exercise at a mean HR of 125 beats.min-1. SR125 was significantly correlated not only to predicted VO2max but also score (X) in the step test for 2 min (25 steps.min-1 on 35-cm stool), yielding a formula, SR125 = -0.00131X + 0.3660. Consequently, both formulae indicate that total O2 uptake of any exercising elderly man can be estimated from total heart beats and mean HR during exercise, regardless of intensity of exercise when SR125 was determined by the step test. The discrepancy between total O2 uptake evaluated by the estimation method for elderly men and that determined by the Douglas bag method was 10.2 +/- 7.3%.  相似文献

Two series of experiments were performed in physically untrained subjects. In series A (heat adaptation, HA), seven male subjects were adapted to dry heat (five consecutive days at 55 degrees C ambient air temperature (Ta) for 1 h X day-1) under resting conditions. Before and after HA, the subjects' shivering responses were determined in a cold test (Ta + 10 to 0 degrees C). In series B, eight male subjects underwent mild exercise training (five consecutive days at a heart rate, HR, of 120 b X min-1) under Ta conditions individually adjusted (Ta + 15 to +5 degrees C) to prevent both sweating and cold sensations. Before and after "sweatless training", the subjects were subjected to a combined cold and heat test. During HA the thresholds for shivering, cutaneous vasodilatation (thumb and forearm) and sweating were shifted significantly (p less than 0.05) towards lower mean body temperatures (Tb). The mean decrease in threshold Tb was 0.36 degrees C. "Sweatless training" resulted in a mean increase in work rate (at HR 120 b X min-1) and oxygen pulse of 13 and 8%, respectively. However, "sweatless training" did not change the threshold Tb for shivering or sweating. Neither HA nor "sweatless training" changed the slopes of the relationships of shivering and sweating to Tb. It is concluded that the previously reported lowering of shivering and sweating threshold Tb in long-distance runners is not due to an increased fitness level, but is essentially identical with HA. The decreased shivering threshold following HA is interpreted as "cross adaptation" produced by the stressors cold and heat.  相似文献
