Four homologous series of very long-chain methyl-branched alcohols were found in the internal lipids of cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni, pupae both as free alcohols and as esters. These alcohols were identified based on mass spectra of their TMS and acetate derivatives, and on the Kovats Indices and mass spectra of the alkanes obatained by reduction of their bromide derivatives with LiAlH4. The four homologous series (from C36 to C46) consisted of monomethyl-, two dimethyl- and a trimethyl-branched alcohol series. The major alcohols (with the corresponding alkanes in parentheses) were identified as 24-methyltetracontan-1-ol (17-methyltetracontane), 24,28-dimethyltetracontan-1-ol (13,17-dimethyltetracontane), 24,36-dimethyltetracontan-1-ol (5,17-dimethyltetracontane) and 24,28,36-trimethyltetracontan-1-ol (5,13,17-trimethyltetracontane). The minor components had an odd number of carbon atoms (C37, C39, C41 and C43) in the carbon chain and the methylalkanes formed from their reduction had methyl branches on the 18- and 14,18-positions. The methylalkanes found internally in pupae were similar to those previously reported in larval cuticular lipids (de Renobales and Blomquist, Insect Biochem. 13, 493–502, 1983). Additional novel methylalkanes identified were 2,X-dimethylalkanes, 5,15-dimethylhentriacontane, 5,23-dimethyltritriacontane, 5,17,23-trimethyltritriacontane and 5,15,23-trimethylpentatriacontane. The methyl branching positions of the major methyl-branched alcohols were different from those of the major methylalkanes.  相似文献

The total surface lipids, including the wax particles, of the adult whiteflies of Bemisia tabaci and Trialeurodes vaporariorum were characterized. At eclosion, there were similar amounts of long-chain hydrocarbons, aldehydes, alcohols and wax esters. Within a few hours post-eclosion, long-chain aldehydes and long-chain alcohols were the dominant surface lipid components, C34 on B. tabaci and C32 on T. vaporariorum. Hydrocarbons, mainly n-alkanes, were minor components of the surface lipids. The major wax esters were C46 on B. tabaci and C42 on T. vaporariorum. The major acid and alcohol moieties in the wax esters of B. tabaci were C20 and C26, respectively, and of T. vaporariorum were C20 and C22, respectively. Both B. tabaci and T. vaporariorum had a minor wax ester composed of the fatty acid C18:1 esterified to the major alcohols, C34 and C32, respectively. Bemisia were readily distinguished from Trialeurodes based on the composition of their wax particles and/or their wax esters; however, no differentiating surface lipid components were detected between biotypes A and B of B. tabaci.  相似文献

Chemistry of Dufour glands associated with the venom complex in Bracon cephi (Gahan) and Bracon lissogaster Muesebeck (Hymenoptera; Braconidae), two parasitoids of the wheat stem sawfly, Cephus cinctus Norton (Hymenoptera: Cephidae), was examined by solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Homologous series of five chemical classes were detected in individual glands from each species. Major classes included: (1) acetate esters of saturated and unsaturated primary alcohols with parent chain lengths from C12 to C20. Hexadecanyl acetate, octadecanyl acetate, and octadecenyl acetate were major components in B. cephi. The composition of the acetate series in B. lissogaster was similar except that the octadecanyl acetate was only a minor component. (2) A homologous series of monoenes from C23:1 to C35:1 were detected in both species, with C29:1, C31:1 and C33:1 being the major components. Dienes from C31:2 to C35:2 and trienes (C33:3–C35:3) were also detected in both species. (3) A homologous series of n-alkanes from C19 to C31 was detected in both species. n-Tricosane was the major component. Minor components in both species included homologous series of both mono- and dimethyl branched alkanes. The Dufour gland hydrocarbon components in both B. cephi and B. lissogaster have some similarities to the composition of cuticular hydrocarbons of their host C. cinctus, a species with a complex pheromonal signaling system.  相似文献

This is the first report devoted to study of the hydrocarbon composition of the extract of buds of European birch Betula pendula (family Betulacea). We have identified saturated (C16 to C28, even number of carbon atoms) and unsaturated (linoleic and linolenic) fatty acids, β-caryophyllene, α-humulene, and the components of epicuticular waxes of cover scales, such as n-alkanes (C21 to C26), esters of fatty acids (C16 to C28, even number of carbon atoms), and fatty alcohols (C18 to C30, even number of carbon atoms). The gas chromatographic retention indices of all identified compounds have been determined.  相似文献

Lipids from rat Harderian glands were extracted with ethyl acetate, hydrolysed with base and examined by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography—mass spectrometry (GC—MS) as trimethylsilyl (TMS), [2H9]TMS, methyl ester—TMS, picolinyl, nicotinate and nicotinylidene derivatives. The latter three derivatives were used to reveal the structures of the alkyl chains of fatty acids, alcohols and glycerol ethers, respectively. Forty-eight compounds were identified, representing about 97% of the total extracted lipids as measured by GC peak areas. The major constituents were fatty acids with chain lengths from 12 to 22 carbon atoms (mainly C18 and C20) and fatty alcohols (C16 to C26) derived from wax esters. Most of these acids and alcohols were unsaturated in the ω-7 position and were accompanied by smaller amounts of the saturated and ω-5 monounsaturated analogues. Glycerol ethers were also identified for the first time in this secretion; the ether chains contained from 14 to 19 carbon atoms (mainly 16) and were straight-chain saturated, unsaturated (ω-5 and ω-7) and branched (iso). The only sterol found was cholesterol amounting to 1.24% of the total extract.  相似文献

Seven species of fresh mangrove leaves were found to contain saturated normal and branched chain hydrocarbons, mostly between C16 and C36 with both odd and even carbon numbers. Significant quantitative variations were found between species. Wax esters were found to contain fatty acids with chain lengths between C12 and C22. Palmitic (16:0) and stearic (18:0) acids were the major component saturated fatty acids, whereas, oleic (18:1) and linolenic (18:3) acids were the major unsaturate α-acids. Chain lengths of the alcohols of wax esters were between C14 and C36. Significant quantitative and minor qualitative differences were noted in the alcohol composition of wax esters. Hydrocarbon and wax ester compositions were characterised by the presence of low M, components in high proportions.  相似文献

A homologous series of long-chain secondary fatty alcohols from C21 to C29 (C29 being Predominant) has been isolated from the skin wax of a Bulgarian apple variety, Bouhavitsa. The alcohols were found only in a free state. Long-chain fatty ketones, with C29 again markedly prevalent, have been isolated for the first time from the skin wax of this, and another variety, Tetovka. The C29-ketone from both samples was identified by means of MS as nonacosan-10-one. A complete similarity has been found in the relative amounts of C29 in the mixtures of secondary alcohols, ketones and paraffins.  相似文献

Internal long-chain methyl-branched alcohols and their esters in the cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni, were synthesized exclusively during the first half of the pupal stage. Esters were synthesized beginning on day 2 post-pupation while synthesis of free alcohols reached a maximum on days 3 and 4 post-pupation. Up to 10% of the injected [1-14C]acetate and 8% of the injected [1-14C]propionate were incorporated into esters and free alcohols, while only 2% of the injected acetate and essentially no propionate were incorporated into polar lipids. Only trace amounts of labeled acetate were incorporated into acylglycerols. Upon saponification, 98% of the radioactivity incorporated into esters was found in the alcohol fraction. Both esters and alcohols were synthesized by the tissue associated with the pupal cuticle but remained internal at all times and were not deposited on the cuticle. Very low levels of fatty acid synthetase activity were found throughout pupal development.  相似文献

The pentane extract of the social spider, Anelosimus eximius (Araneae, Theridiidae), contains hydrocarbons, fatty acids and their methyl esters, and a series of novel propyl esters of long-chain methyl-branched fatty acids. The propyl esters comprise almost three-fourths of the extract and consist predominantly of odd-numbered carbon chain components. Mass spectrometric analyses of the propyl esters, their methyl esters and cyanide derivatives showed that mono-, di- and trimethyl branched components with methyl branches on even numbered carbons predominate. The major components are propyl 4,20- and 4,30-dimethylhentriacontanoate and propyl 6,20- and 6,30-trimethylhentriacontanoate. The hydrocarbon fraction consists of n-, monomethyl- and dimethylalkanes, containing a relatively high proportion of even-numbered carbon chain components. The abundance of even-numbered carbon chain length alkanes and odd-numbered carbon chain length fatty acyl groups, along with abundant methyl-branches suggest that the propionyl-CoA and its carboxylated product, methylmalonyl-CoA, play important roles in the biosynthesis of these unique waxes. In this work, cuticular waxes from flag leaf blades and peduncles of Triticum aestivum cv. Bethlehem were investigated in search for novel wax compounds. Seven wax compound classes were detected that had previously not been reported, and their structures were elucidated using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry of various derivatives. Six of the classes were identified as series of homologs differing by two methylene units, while the seventh was a homologous series with homologs with single methylene unit differences. In the waxes of flag leaf blades, secondary alcohols (predominantly C27 and C33), primary/secondary diols (predominantly C28) and esters of primary/secondary diols (predominantly C50, combining C28 diol with C22 acid) were found, all sharing similar secondary hydroxyl group positions at and around C-12 or ω-12. 7- and 8-hydroxy-2-alkanol esters (predominantly C35), 7- and 8-oxo-2-alkanol esters (predominantly C35), and 4-alkylbutan-4-olides (predominantly C28) were found both in flag leaf and peduncle wax mixtures. Finally, a series of even- and odd-numbered alkane homologs was identified in both leaf and peduncle waxes, with an internal methyl branch preferentially on C-11 and C-13 of homologs with even total carbon number and on C-12 of odd-numbered homologs. Biosynthetic pathways are suggested for all compounds, based on common structural features and matching chain length profiles with other wheat wax compound classes.  相似文献

The cuticular surface lipids of the red harvester ant, Pogonomyrmex barbatus, were found to contain minor amounts of novel wax esters, in addition to the major components, hydrocarbons. The wax esters ranged in carbon number from C19 to C31 and consisted of esters of both odd- and even-numbered alcohols and acids. Each wax ester with a given carbon number eluted at several different retention times indicating possible methyl branching in either the fatty acid or alcohol moiety, or in both moieties. Each eluting peak of wax esters consisted of a mixture of wax esters of the same carbon number in which the fatty acid moiety ranged from C8 to C18, and the alcohol moiety ranged from C8 to C17. Some wax esters were largely found on the head indicating they may be of a glandular origin. The hydrocarbons consisted of: n-alkanes, C23 to C33; odd-numbered n-alkenes, C27 to C35; and the major components, methyl-branched alkanes, C26 to over C49. Notable components of the methyl-branched alkanes were 2-methyltriacontane, and the novel trimethylalkanes with a single methylene between the first and second branch points, 13,15,19-trimethylhentriacontane and 13,15,21-trimethyltritriacontane.  相似文献

The monounsaturated C18–C24 alcohols obtained by saponification of the wax esters of jojoba oil have been separated and the double bond positional isomers determined by a modified von Rudloff oxidation technique. The major homologue of each chain length has the double bond at the ω 9 position suggesting a close biogenetic relationship between these major components. The relationship is much less apparent in the minor components.  相似文献

A homologous series of long-chain secondary alcohols in which each member is a mixture of three isomers with a hydroxyl group at 4, 5 and 6 positions has been identified for the first time in a plant wax. The isomer, having an OH-group at C5 is the prevalent one. Data are also presented on the presence of unsaturated primary alcohols and ester-bound secondary alcohols in the waxes isolated from decorative roses.  相似文献

Leaf waxes from spring wheat varieties Selkirk and Manitou contain hydrocarbons (6%, 10%), long chain esters (14%, 13%), free acids (5%, 8%), free alcohols (19%, 21%), β-diketone (16%, 20%), hydroxy β-diketones (8%, 10%), unidentified gum (29%, 16.5%) and minor amounts of diol diesters, glycerides and aldehydes. The major hydrocarbon is nonacosane and major esters are octacosyl esters of C14–C32 acids but C20 and C22 alcohol esters of trans 2-docosenoic and tetracosenoic acids are also present (Selkirk 20%, Manitou 10% of total esters). Previously unknown trans 2-docosen-1-ol is present as an ester (Selkirk 5%, Manitou 2.5% of total esters). Free acids are C14–C32 acids and trans 2-docosenoic and tetracosenoic acids (Selkirk 30%, Manitou 9% of free acids). Octacosanol is the principal free alcohol. Hentriacontane-14,16-dione is the β-diketone and the hydroxy β-diketones are a 1:1 mixture of 8- and 9- hydroxyhentriacontane-14,16-diones.  相似文献

Material from the testa of decorticated barley grains contained hydrocarbons, esters, triglycerides, free sterols, 5-n-alkylresorcinols, and traces of free alcohols, carbonyl compounds, and various polar, acidic materials. The hydrocarbon fraction was mainly a series of n-alkanes, extending at least from C11 to C36, in which the C29 and C31 components were prominent. Two minor series of alkanes were also present. Sometimes a trace of an unsaturated hydrocarbon was detected. The ester fraction contained sterols and alkanols esterified by fatty acids, which differed in relative amounts from the fatty acids found in the triglycerides. The triglycerides were thought to have leached from within the grain. At least five free sterols were present, including sitosterol and campesterol. The 5-n-alkylresorcinols were at least twelve members of a homologous series, of which four, C25, C27, C29, and C31, made 98% of the total. Members of the series with even numbers of carbon atoms were also present. It is suggested that they are partly responsible for excluding microorganisms from the interior of the grain. The testa membrane, with the associated pigment strand, contained an estolide of fatty acids and various hydroxyacids, a polysaccharide component, and uncharacterized material.  相似文献

Newly isolated Acinetobacter (NRRL B-14920, B-14921, B-14923) and coryneform (NRRL B-14922) strains accumulated oleyl oleate and homologous liquid wax esters (C30:2–C36:2) in culture broths. Diunsaturated oleyl oleate preponderated in 75 mg liquid wax esters (280 mg lipid extract) recovered from 100-ml cultures of Acinetobacter B-14920 supplemented with 810 mg oleic acid–oleyl alcohol. With soybean oil instead of oleic acid, wax esters (260 mg) were increased to approximately 50% of the lipid extract. Production of wax esters by cultures supplemented with combined fatty (C8–C18) alcohols and acids suggests a coordinated synthesis whereby the exogenous alcohol remains unaltered, and the fatty acid is partially oxidized with removal of C2 units before esterification. Consequently, C8–C18 primary alcohols control chain lengths of the wax esters. Exogenous fatty acids are presumed to enter an intracellular oxidation pool from which is produced a homologous series of liquid wax esters.  相似文献

A type of deterioration called ketonic rancidity occurred in coconut after inoculation with four xerophilic fungi, Eurotium amstelodami, E. chevalieri, E. herbariorum and Penicillium citrinum. The fungi were incubated at low water activity and oxygen tension. A homologous series of aliphatic methyl ketones and secondary alcohols C5C11 were isolated and identified in the rancid samples after fungal growth. Evidence is presented that odd numbered methyl ketones (C5C11) are derived from even numbered short chain fatty acids with one more carbon atoms than the ketones via a modified β-oxidation of the parent fatty acid. Heptan-2-one and heptan-2-ol are the main reaction products except in the case of E. herbariorum where even numbered hexan-2-one, hexan-2-ol, octan-2-one and octan-2-ol were produced. Other moulds grown on coconut under similar conditions—Aspergillus flavus Link and Chrysosporium farinicola (Burnside) Skou (C. fastidium Pitt)—did not cause ketonic deterioration.  相似文献

A series of esters of C8-C13 fatty acids formed with C10-C12 straight chain alcohols, representing 3.7% of the glandular contents, was found in the Dufour gland of workers of the formicine ant Lasius niger. Altogether, nearly 50 components, among them hydrocarbons, alcohols, acetates and propionates were identified in the glandular liquid by means of gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS), using a solid injection technique. The wax esters and the propionates—decyl, dodecyl, octadecyl and farnesyl—have not been previously reported from ant secretions.  相似文献

The fatty acid and long-chain base composition of five major gangliosides from human stomach and small and large intestine mucosa were analyzed with gas chromatography. All the gangliosides greatly resembled each other in the fatty acid pattern. The main fatty acids were C16:0, C18:0 and C24:0. No hydroxy fatty acids could be detected. In all the gangliosides 4-sphingenine was the predominant long-chain base (70–75%). About 15% of the long-chain bases had 20 carbon atoms in their chain. No trihydroxy long-chain bases could be detected.  相似文献
