The Dipsadidae contains more than 700 extant species belonging to 92 genera and is the largest family of American snakes. In this work, we built a data set including two mitochondrial genes (12S and 16S rRNA) for 125 dipsadid taxa belonging to 59 genera, in order to gain further insights on the phylogenetic relationships of this large group at the subfamilial and generic levels. Among dipsadines, the monotypic genus Nothopsis is the sister-group to Leptodeira. Among xenodontines, the monophyly of seven previously recognized tribes (Alsophiini, Elapomorphini, Hydropsini, Philodryadini, Pseudoboini, Tachymenini and Xenodontini) is confirmed. Among Xenodontini, the genus Liophis is paraphyletic with respect to Erythrolamprus and Umbrivaga and workers should be aware of the inadequacy of the current taxonomy. Finally, the following genera could not confidently be allocated to the above tribes: Caaeteboia, Echinantera and Taeniophallus, Tropidodryas, Manolepis and Pseudalsophis, Xenopholis, Psomophis, Hydrodynastes, Conophis and Crisantophis.  相似文献

The Santonian-Campanian boundary in Northern Tunisia has been studied in Oued el Khannga section, based on biostratigraphic and paleoecological analysis. The detailed biostratigraphic analysis allows us to define the stratigraphic distribution of diverse planktonic foraminifera and to establish a continuous biozonation. Sixty-six planktonic foraminiferal species belonging to 13 genera have been identified and two Tethyan planktonic foraminiferal zones have been organized, indicating the upper Santonian - lower Campanian age. These zones are: Dicarinella asymetrica (Total Range Zone) and Globotruncanita elevata/Globotruncana arca (Concurrent range zone). A major turn over event was recorded in this interval including the extinction of several species characterized by complex morphotypes with a double keel such as the genera of Dicarinella, Marginotruncana. In fact, the extinction of the index species Dasymetrica is the most important event which defines the Santonian-Campanian boundary. Many representative species of the genera Globotruncanita and Globotruncana occurred, for the first time, in the uppermost of the Santonian and thrived close to the Santonian-Campanian boundary. In addition some surviving species with a simple morphotype, which are considered like opportunistic taxa, crossed the boundary. This various responses of planktonic foraminifera and the fluctuation in diversity and in the number of species may be related to an increase in temperature and a deep outer shelf upper bathyal environment deposit.  相似文献

Snake diversity in the island of Sri Lanka is extremely high, hosting at least 89 inland (i.e., non-marine) snake species, of which at least 49 are endemic. This includes the endemic genera Aspidura, Balanophis, Cercaspis, Haplocercus, and Pseudotyphlops, which are of uncertain phylogenetic affinity. We present phylogenetic evidence from nuclear and mitochondrial loci showing the relationships of 40 snake species from Sri Lanka (22 endemics) to the remaining global snake fauna. To determine the phylogenetic placement of these species, we create a molecular dataset containing 10 genes for all global snake genera, while also sampling all available species for genera with endemic species occurring in Sri Lanka. Our sampling comprises five mitochondrial genes (12S, 16S, cyt-b, ND2, and ND4) and five nuclear genes (BDNF, c-mos, NT3 RAG-1, and RAG-2), for a total of up to 9582 bp per taxon. We find that the five endemic genera represent portions of four independent colonizations of Sri Lanka, with Cercaspis nested within Colubrinae, Balanophis in Natricinae, Pseudotyphlops in Uropeltidae, and that Aspidura + Haplocercus represents a distinct, ancient lineage within Natricinae. We synonymize two endemic genera that render other genera paraphyletic (Haplocercus with Aspidura, and Cercaspis with Lycodon), and discover that further endemic radiations may be present on the island, including a new taxon from the blindsnake family Typhlopidae, suggesting a large endemic radiation. Despite its small size relative to other islands such as New Guinea, Borneo, and Madagascar, Sri Lanka has one of the most phylogenetically diverse island snake faunas in the world, and more research is needed to characterize the island’s biodiversity, with numerous undescribed species in multiple lineages.  相似文献

Silurian trilobites of Ludlow and P?ídolí age are described from sections in southern Uzbekistan and from adjacent parts of Tajikistan. They belong to 22 species (10 named and 12 under open nomenclature) distributed among 13 genera belonging to the families Proetidae, Tropidocoryphidae, Aulacopleuridae, Scharyiidae, Cheiruridae, Encrinuridae and Odontopleuridae. The following new species are described: Interproetus pentaxus, Paleodechenella turkestanica, P. zaaminicus, Cromus tamchii and Leonaspis nuratensis. The generic associations from the mid Ludlow bear a striking resemblance to coeval ones from Bohemia, and include genera otherwise known only from that region or from adjacent parts of central Europe. The trilobite faunas from the late Ludlow and P?ídolí series are much less diverse and are dominated by genera of the Warburgellinae (Tropidocoryphidae), which include one species common to Vaigatch Island in the Russian Arctic, and Podolia, Ukraine. The closest links of the diverse central Asian mid Ludlow faunas are therefore to central Europe, whilst the sparser younger Ludlow and P?ídolí faunas, such as they are, suggest closer links to Baltica.  相似文献

The study of the subfamily Cytheropterinae from the southern Brazilian continental shelf reveals the presence of four genera and nine species, including two newly described (Cytheropteron sudatlanticum sp. nov., Loxoreticulatum pulchrum sp. nov.) and two left in open nomenclature (Cytheropteron sp. and Kangarina sp.). All of these species are restricted to the southern part of the Southwest Atlantic Ocean and do not extend beyond the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Three of these species (Oculocytheropteron micropunctatum, O. reticulatum, Omacropunctatum) extend beyond the southern limit of the Brazilian Province (36°S), while the others occur inside the limits of the Brazilian Province (36°S–22/21°S). The genus Loxoreticulatum, a well-known ostracod taxon from the Antarctic Peninsula, southern Argentina and Falkland (= Malvinas) Islands, is herein reported for the first time from offshore Brazil.  相似文献

Biostratigraphical high-resolution analyses and quantitative data confirm that deposition is continuous across the K-Pg transition in several sections in Tunisia (El Kef, stratotype section) and Spain (Agost and Caravaca sections) located in the Tethyan realm and the Bidart sections in the Atlantic realm, without any relevant hiatus. The Upper Maastrichtian assemblages of planktic foraminifera from these sections are largely dominated by small biserial heterohelicids. They are associated to common species having planispiral test (i.e. globigerinelloids), trochospiral test (i.e. hedbergellids, rugoglobigerinids globotruncanids), to rare triserial heterohelicids (i.e. guembelitriids) and trochospiral species showing tubulospines (i.e. schackoinids). Stratigraphical ranges of these diverse taxa through the late Maastrichtian in the Tethyan and Atlantic realms show very few changes in the planktonic foraminiferal assemblages and most of the species are present in the Abathomphalus mayaroensis biozone. By our high-resolution sampling and the intensive research for the A. mayaroensis index species in the uppermost Maastrichtian samples, we confirm that this species is omnipresent up to the top of the Maastrichtian. Therefore, A. mayaroensis is present in almost all samples which are late Maastrichtian in age, but this species became very scarce in the uppermost Maastrichtian samples. This scarceness could be due to a climate cooling. A sharp decrease in relative abundance of the deep dwellers species, like as Abathomphalus intermedius and A. mayaroensis as well as in other keeled globotruncanids is observed at the studied sections from the Tethyan realm (indicative of low latitude) across the latest Maastrichtian. At the K/Pg boundary, all the globotruncanids disappeared. They are considered specialists living in tropical-subtropical deep seawater habitat. At this boundary, large and ornate heterohelicids also disappeared. Therefore, all the studied sections show that about 90 % of the Maastrichtian species became extinct according to a catastrophic mass extinction pattern. Only about 10 % crossed the K/Pg boundary and survived during the earliest Danian. The minor difference in the number of disappeared taxa is related to their latitude location or environment paleodepth. The changes in the species relative abundance, observed in the successive planktic foraminiferal assemblages, make it possible to recognize the Acme-stage 0 typical of the upper Maastrichtian interval. It is characterized by the highest species richness of Globotruncanids and heterohelicids specialists of tropical to subtropical marine conditions, the Acme-stage 1 typical of the Guembelitria cretacea Zone, and in particular of the Hedbergella holmdelensis Subzone dominated by “opportunists” species belonging to Guembelitria, the Acme-stage 2 which corresponds to the Pv. eugubina Zone dominated mainly by specimens belonging to Palaeoglobigerina and Parvularugoglobigerina and the Acme-stage 3 which characterizes mainly the Ps. pseudobulloides Zone dominated by biserial species belonging to Chiloguembelina and Woodringina.  相似文献

Two new species and one new subspecies of genus Capnuchosphaera, (Capnuchosphaera tumida nov. sp., C. waihekeensis nov. sp. and C. texensis australis nov. ssp.) are described herein from phosphatic nodules included in mudstone and sandstone beds of the Waipapa Terrane, Waiheke Island, New Zealand. The phosphatic nodules yielded a rich Late Triassic (Carnian-Norian) radiolarian fauna, with a high abundance of spumellarian taxa including numerous species of the genera Capnuchosphaera, Vinassaspongus, Kahlerosphaera, Sarla and Dumitricasphaera. Waiheke Island Capnuchosphaera are characterized by a large cortical shell and a distinctively low ratio of spine length to cortical shell diameter. These features differ significantly from those of Capnuchosphaera in the Tethyan Realm and are considered to be the result of adaptation to an Austral-New Zealand peripheral ocean of Gondwanaland in the Mesozoic Southern Hemisphere.  相似文献

DNA sequence comparisons of three mitochondrial DNA genes were used to reveal phylogenetic relationships among four species and a sub-species of Mullidae family. This is the first report using mitochondrial DNA sequence data to infer intraspecific relationship among different populations of Mullus barbatus and Mullus surmuletus; phylogenetic relationships between M. barbatus and its sub-species; M. barbatus ponticus. Cytochrome b, 12S ribosomal RNA, and cytochrome oxidase II regions of 242 individuals belonging to species M. barbatus, M. surmuletus, Upeneus moluccensis, Upeneus pori and sub-species M. barbatus ponticus were sequenced and phylogenetic trees were constructed using four different algorithms. The phylogenetic trees constructed support the existing taxonomical data of two mullid genera (Mullus, Upeneus). Molecular data shows no significant difference between same species of different geographical populations. The results suggest that the molecular difference is not large enough between M. barbatus and M. barbatus ponticus to consider them as sub-species.  相似文献

The conodont faunas of Tournaisian shallow-water carbonates from central Guangxi are described mainly for biostratigraphic purposes. A complete series of samples was collected from the Long’an and Du’an formations in the Long’an section. These formations are characterized by lime-mudstone, skeletal and peloidal wackestone, packstone and grainstone with typical shallow-water biota. Overall, these samples produced 809 identifiable Pl elements, belonging to 50 species in 11 genera, of which one species and one subspecies are new. The fauna enables the establishment of seven biozones (in ascending order): Polygnathus spicatus, Siphonodella homosimplex, S. sinensis, S. dasaibaensis, Polygnathus communis carina Acme, Gnathodus cuneiformis, and P. communis porcatus zones. Based on these new collections from central Guangxi and on data from the literature, a conflated Tournaisian conodont zonation is proposed for shallow-water successions in South China. Most of the conodont zones correlate well with their counterparts recognized in Western Europe, which may be of greater significance in stratigraphic correlation than previously thought.  相似文献

Imlay's ammonite species Paradontoceras butti and Paradontoceras antilleanum are first reported from central-east Mexico under precise stratigraphic control. Mexican and Cuban ammonites referred to these species have been studied and proved to have been gathered from a relatively limited area within the southern paleomargin of the north American Plate, which embraces eastern Mexico and north-western Cuba. The palaeontological examination, the multivariate analysis conducted on Mexican and Cuban data, the precise biostratigraphic and biogeographic control support the reinterpretation of Imlay's species P. antilleanum and P. butti. The latter has been designated the single, valid nominal species-level taxon which comprises the two species proposed by Imlay. The new genus Housaites has been created since the taxon Butticeras Houša is not available for taxonomic nomenclature. Housaites butti (Imlay) is upper Lower Tithonian (Semiforme/Verruciferum Zone of the Tethyan standard) in Mexico. The stratigraphic range in Cuba is not conclusively known.  相似文献

In almost all Rhaetian marine assemblages of the Tethyan Realm, two dinoflagellate cyst species, Dapcodinium priscum EVITT, 1961, emend. Below, 1987, and Rhaetogonyaulax rhaetica (SARJEANT) LOEBLICH and LOEBLICH, 1976, emend. Harland et al., 1975, emend. Below 1987 are dominant. Thus, when one is relatively frequent the other scarce and vice versa. This paper considers the inverse relationship of the two species in 235 rock samples taken from Rhaetian strata well exposed along the western margin of the Mesozoic intracratonic basin of south-eastern France. The palynological variables recorded from the samples (seven types of phytoclasts and three marine taxa: Dpriscum, Rrhaetica and micrhystridids) were submitted to principal components analysis, which shows that Dpriscum occurs in deposits that reflect nearshore and restricted marine environments. Rrhaetica is indicative of more marine environments at greater water depth, as indicated by the relatively high proportions of buoyant needle-like phytoclasts. These observations suggest that Dpriscum is the cyst of an opportunistic, euryhaline dinoflagellate taxon that occupied various ecological niches while Rrhaetica inhabited more normal open marine environments. The palaeoenvironmental distribution seems to have been influenced by the energy level of the water column. Dpriscum is found in deposits that denote high to low energy while Rrhaetica is found in low energy sediments. Micrhystridid occurrences are similar to those of Dpriscum; they are uncommon when the abundance of Rrhaetica increases.  相似文献

In this contribution, two stratigraphic sections are described through the Lower Cretaceous shallow-water platform sediments (Taft formation) from the northern Tethys, which are located in the Yazd Block, Central Iran. Benthic foraminifera are used to propose a biostratigraphy for these successions. They are grouped around several assemblage zones, and several genera and species are reported from the Yazd Block basin for the first time (e.g., Arenobulimina cochleata, Ameltae, Belorusiella sp., Bolivinopsis cf. labeosa, Decussoloculina barbui, Martinotiella jucunda, Myncina bulgarica, Novalesia cornucopia, Sabaudia briacensis, Simplorbitolina manasi). Their presence can provide a better understanding for the paleogeographic reconstruction of the Tethyan seaways. Furthermore, they represent candidates as potential index fossils in the Lower Cretaceous stratigraphy of the Yazd Block. The new biostratigraphic data allow to date the Lower Cretaceous successions between the probable Valanginian and the late Aptian. Based on the absence of early Barremian indicators and also late Aptian markers, two hiatuses are recognized through the Taft formation. This formation also displays a diachrony in ages at its base and top, which suggests the effect of long-term subsidence in the Yazd Block during the Early Cretaceous, following the Cimmerian phase of orogeny.  相似文献

The Toros Menalla Late Miocene Formation (7 Ma), Djurab desert, Chad, has yielded a large number of vertebrate remains, and among them around twenty taxa of carnivores. Recent collections allow us to describe two sabre-toothed felids assigned to the genera Lokotunjailurus and cf. Megantereon. The former does exist in the Nawata Formation, Lothagam, northern Kenya with a slightly derived species and the TM specimens are considered as belonging to a new species. The latter cannot be identified to the species level, but it could be one of the earliest specimens of Megantereon known in the world and it would reinforce the hypothesis of an Old World origin for this taxon. Both allow us to put forward some biogeographical conclusions.  相似文献

The genus Metarhizium is composed of entomopathogenic fungal biological control agents (BCAs) used for invertebrate pest control. The phylogenetic relationships of species within this genus are still under scrutiny as several cryptic species can be found. In this work, the mitochondrial (mt) genome of Metarhizium brunneum ARSEF 4556 was fully sequenced and a comparative genome analysis was conducted with 7 other available mt genomes, belonging to 5 Metarhizium species: M. anisopliae, M. brunneum, M. robertsii, M. guizhouense and M. majus. Results showed that Metarhizium demonstrates greater conserved stability than other fungal mt genomes. Furthermore, this analysis located 7 diverse regions in both intergenic domains and gene fragments which were ideal for species/strain discrimination. The sequencing of these regions revealed several SNPs among 38 strains tested, 11 of which were uncharacterized. Single gene phylogenies presented variable results which may be used further for intra-species discrimination. Phylogenetic trees based on the concatenation of mt domains and the nuclear ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region showed discrimination of the species studied and allowed the identification of uncharacterized strains. These were mostly placed within species M. anisopliae and M. brunneum. Five strains clustered together in a clade related to M. brunneum, suggesting that they comprise a cryptic species.  相似文献

Thirty-five species belonging to 21 genera of foraminifers are distinguished from allochthonous limestone blocks contained within the autochthonous mudstones and sandstones of the Carnian Tanoura Formation, Kurosegawa Terrane of West Kyushu (SW Japan). These blocks are considered to be Anisian in age, based on the occurrence of two foraminifers widely distributed in the Anisian of the Tethyan Realm, Pilammina densa and Meandrospira dinarica; they are associated with Involutinid-like forms, such as Triadodiscus and Aulotortus, and with other foraminifers. The allochthonous limestones are mostly composed of oolites, abundant bioclasts and detrital quartz grains. They are thought to have been redeposited during the Carnian on the shelf slope of the South Kitakami-Kurosegawa Old Land. Palaeogeographically, this terrane was part of the North Gondwana margin, then isolated eastwards before its Early Cretaceous amalgamation with South China. Three foraminiferal species, Triadodiscus eomesozoicus (Oberhauser), Triadodiscus? tanourensis, n. sp., and Triadodiscus? sp. are described from the Anisian allochthonous blocks.  相似文献

The analysis of ostracods (Crustacea) of the genus Palaeocytheridea, widespread in the Boreal and Tethyan regions of Europe, allows establishing several correlated sequences in the Middle Jurassic of these regions, thus showing the stratigraphical significance of this genus. However M.I. Mandelstam misdescribed the hinge in carapace valves of the ostracod genus Palaeocytheridea in his characterization of the type species of P. bakirovi Mandelstam, 1947, and subsequently P.S. Lyubimova (1955) replaced the original type species by Eucythere denticulata Sharapova, 1937, thus confusing the understanding of the content of the genus Palaeocytheridea and triggering the assignment to it of more than 90 forms, belonging not only to different genera but also to different families. The revision reveals 11 valid Palaeocytheridea species, belonging to the two subgenera: Palaeocytheridea s. str. and Malzevia subgen. nov. One species, Palaeocytheridea kalandadzei sp. nov., is described as new. This paper, the first of the series of three papers dealing with ostracods of the genus Palaeocytheridea, considers the history of the development of ideas on the content of the genus, presents the results of its revision, and describes new taxa.  相似文献

Reig's short-tailed opossum (Monodelphis reigi) was recently described morphologically, based on a single specimen from southeastern Venezuela. It was considered most similar to M. adusta, which is allopatrically distributed in the Andes and surrounding areas, but there has not been an explicit study of systematic relationships with other species of Monodelphis. We report the first occurrence from Guyana of this rare species that was previously known by only the holotype. In a molecular phylogenetic analysis of mitochondrial cytochrome b sequence variation, it groups within a well-supported monophyletic clade that includes M. adusta, M. handleyi, M. osgoodi, and M. peruviana. M. adusta was found to be the sister taxon to the rest of the adusta-complex. M. reigi is the basal taxon (sister species) of remaining adusta-complex forms. This corroborates earlier morphological studies suggesting close affinity of these taxa. As presently known, M. reigi is endemic to the highland regions (>1,000 m asl) of the Guiana Shield of northern South America, and is the only taxon within the M. adusta species complex that does not occur in the Andes or adjacent lowland regions. Based on previous molecular dating of Didelphidae, this suggests that there was a dispersal event from the Andes to the Guiana Highlands in the Miocene that gave rise to M. reigi.  相似文献

The siliceous valves from species of Tetracyclus (Bacillariophyceae) have variable but characteristic shapes. In this paper, species characterised by having valves with a central constriction are discussed. This distinctive shape occurs during only a period of its lifecycle. Tetracyclus constrictus and Tetracyclus celatom have been applied to fossil specimens occurring in deposits from the west coast of the USA and the east coast of Russia. Do these names apply to two closely related species or are they one and the same taxon? Two further species, Tetracyclus javanicus and Tetracyclus peragalli, have been involved in the identity of T. constrictusT. celatom. T. constrictus M. Peragallo is the correct name and author for specimens of the extinct Miocene, circum-Pacific (or northern) fossil species with valves panduriform with rounded poles; T. javanicus refers to a species found living on Java only; fossil specimens usually referred to T. javanicus (Java) belong to a new taxon, Tetracyclus bradburyii (USA); T. peragalli is an extinct Miocene fossil, with a northern hemisphere distribution; small (≤10 μm) circular/elliptical fossil specimens, found alongside other specimens, are difficult (if not impossible) to determine to species level.  相似文献

The paper describes new Lower Jurassic corals from the South-Eastern Pamir Mountains (Tajikistan) and interprets their relationships with contemporaneous West Tethyan corals. Taxonomic similarities with Pliensbachian European and North African faunas indicate a Pliensbachian age for this fauna, which was previously considered to be of Hettangian/Sinemurian age. Together with the taxa earlier described from the Pamirs, this fauna consists of 30 species of 25 genera, including Triassic holdover genera such as Stylophyllopsis, Phacelostylophyllum and Eocomoseris. The bulk of the fauna represents new Jurassic genera: Alichurastrea, Eomicrophyllia, Guembelastreomorpha, Gurumdynia, Pinacomorpha, Protostephanastrea, Psenophyllia, Sedekastrea and Stylimorpha. Earlier coral studies of the region concerned the genera: Archaeosmilia Melnikova, 1975, Archaeosmiliopsis Melnikova, 1975, Cylismilia Roniewicz, 1988, Pachysmilia Melnikova, 1989, and Prodonacosmilia Melnikova in Melnikova and Roniewicz, 1976. Two species that were considered to belong to the genus Cylismilia, are redescribed and reclassified in the genera Psenophyllia, and Archaeosmilia Melnikova, respectively.  相似文献
