We examined the effect of maternal weight gain during pregnancy on exercise performance. Ten women performed submaximal cycle (up to 60 W) and treadmill (4 km/h, up to 10% grade) exercise tests at 34 +/- 1.5 (SD) wk gestation and 7.6 +/- 1.7 wk postpartum. Postpartum subjects wearing weighted belts designed to equal their body weight during the antepartum tests performed two additional treadmill tests. Absolute O2 uptake (VO2) at the same work load was higher during pregnancy than postpartum during cycle (1.04 +/- 0.08 vs. 0.95 +/- 0.09 l/min, P = 0.014), treadmill (1.45 +/- 0.19 vs. 1.27 +/- 0.20 l/min, P = 0.0002), and weighted treadmill (1.45 +/ 0.19 vs. 1.36 +/- 0.20 l/min, P = 0.04) exercise. None of these differences remained, however, when VO2 was expressed per kilogram of body weight. Maximal VO2 (VO2max) estimated from the individual heart rate-VO2 curves was the same during and after pregnancy during cycling (1.96 +/- 0.37 to 1.98 +/- 0.39 l/min), whereas estimated VO2max increased postpartum during treadmill (2.04 +/- 0.38 to 2.21 +/- 0.36 l/min, P = 0.03) and weighted treadmill (2.04 +/- 0.38 to 2.19 +/- 0.38 l/min, P = 0.03) exercise. We conclude that increased body weight during pregnancy compared with the postpartum period accounts for 75% of the increased VO2 during submaximal weight-bearing exertion in pregnancy and contributes to reduced exercise capacity. The postpartum increase in estimated VO2max during weight-bearing exercise is the result of consistently higher antepartum heart rates during all submaximal work loads.  相似文献

In this study, the effect of exercise (treadmill, riding) on scrotal surface temperature (SST) in the stallion with and without suspensory was evaluated. Experiments were carried out between September and November 2004 using 12 Franches-Montagnes stallions from the National Stud in Avenches (Switzerland). Each stallion performed a standardized incremental treadmill and a ridden test with and without suspensory. The intensity of exercise was monitored by heart rate and blood lactate concentration. For SST measurements, special thermistors were developed and affixed to the most ventral part of the scrotum over each testis. SST was recorded telemetrically at 1min intervals. Our results show that type of exercise (treadmill/ridden) and suspensory (with/without) significantly influenced SST. The mean SST level was higher during treadmill (32.2+/-0.02 degrees C) than during ridden exercise (30.4+/-0.03 degrees C) and mean SST differences between stallions with and without suspensory were smaller in treadmill (0.4 degrees C) than in ridden (2 degrees C) exercise. These findings clearly demonstrate that ambient airflow, which was higher during ridden exercise, is important and effective in SST regulation. In order to prevent possible thermal damage to spermatogenic cells we recommend removing the suspensory immediately after exercise.  相似文献

Lovell, DI, Mason, DG, Delphinus, EM, and McLellan, CP. Do compression garments enhance the active recovery process after high-intensity running? J Strength Cond Res 25(12): 3264-3268, 2011-This study examined the effect of wearing waist-to-ankle compression garments (CGs) on active recovery after moderate- and high-intensity submaximal treadmill running. Twenty-five male semiprofessional rugby league players performed two 30-minute treadmill runs comprising of six 5-minute stages at 6 km·h, 10 km·h, approximately 85% VO(2)max, 6 km·h as a recovery stage followed by approximately 85% VO(2)max and 6 km·h wearing either CGs or regular running shorts in a randomized counterbalanced order with each person acting as his own control. All stages were followed by 30 seconds of rest during which a blood sample was collected to determine blood pH and blood lactate concentration [La]. Expired gases and heart rate (HR) were measured during the submaximal treadmill tests to determine metabolic variables with the average of the last 2 minutes used for data analysis. The HR and [La] were lower (p ≤ 0.05) after the first and second 6 km·h recovery bouts when wearing CGs compared with when wearing running shorts. The respiratory exchange ratio (RER) was higher and [La] lower (p ≤ 0.05) after the 10 km·h stage, and only RER was higher after both 85% VO(2)max stages when wearing CGs compared with when wearing running shorts. There was no difference in blood pH at any exercise stage when wearing the CGs and running shorts. The results of this study indicate that the wearing of CGs may augment the active recovery process in reducing [La] and HR after high-intensity exercise but not effect blood pH. The ability to reduce [La] and HR has important consequences for many sports that are intermittent in nature and consist of repeated bouts of high-intensity exercise interspersed with periods of low-intensity exercise or recovery.  相似文献

To study the changes in carnitine in muscle with spring exercise, two Thoroughbred horses performed two treadmill exercise tests. Biopsies of the middle gluteal were taken before, after exercise and after 12 min recovery. Resting mean muscle total carnitine content was 29.5 mmol.kg-1 dry muscle (d.m.). Approximately 88% was free carnitine, 7% acetylcarnitine and acylcarnitine was estimated at 5%. Exercise did not affect total carnitine, but resulted in a marked fall in free carnitine and almost equivalent rise in acetylcarnitine. The results are consistent with a role for carnitine in the regulation of the acetyl-CoA/CoA ratio during sprint exercise in the Thoroughbred horse by buffering excess production of acetyl units.  相似文献

Nonexercising muscles appear to be metabolically active during exercise. Animal models for this purpose have not been established. However, we have been able to teach animals to run on their forelimbs while their hindlimbs are suspended above the treadmill with no visible limb movement. To document that indeed this mode of exercise does not provoke additional muscle activity, we have compared the levels of neural activation of the soleus and plantaris muscles using a computer analysis of the electromyographic interference pattern, recorded from bipolar fine wire electrodes implanted across each muscle. Via computer analyses of the electromyographic interference patterns the frequencies and amplitudes of motor unit action potentials were obtained. The data were sampled during 20 s of every minute of observation. Comparisons were made in four conditions: (i) resting on the treadmill while bearing weight on the hindlimbs (normal rest), (ii) running on the treadmill (15 m/min, 8% grade) on all four limbs (normal exercise), (iii) resting while the hindlimbs were suspended in a harness above the treadmill (suspended rest), and (iv) exercising with the forelimbs (15 m/min, 8% grade) while the hindlimbs were suspended above the treadmill (suspended exercise). All four experimental conditions were carried out for 90 min each and were performed by each animal. The results clearly show that muscle activities (frequencies and amplitudes), when the hindlimbs are suspended above the treadmill, at rest or during exercise, are lower than the activities in these same muscles when the animals are at rest, supporting only their body weight. This study determined the plasma volume (PV) and ion responses to heat acclimation and exercise in six trained Thoroughbred horses during 21 days of exposure to heat and humidity (33 degrees C, 83% relative humidity) for 4 h/day. During the 2nd h on days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 21, horses performed a standardized treadmill test, running at 50% of peak O(2) uptake until pulmonary artery temperature reached 41.5 degrees C. Heat acclimation resulted in an increase in PV from 21.3 +/- 1.1 liters on day 0 to 24.3 +/- 1.0 liters on day 14, returning to 22.6 +/- 0.9 liters on day 21. The corresponding total plasma protein contents were 1,273 +/- 53, 1,455 +/- 81, and 1,377 +/- 57 g, respectively, and increases in total plasma Na(+) plus Cl(-) content were 5,145 +/- 126, 5,749 +/- 146, and 5,394 +/- 114 mmol, respectively. Thus changes in PV were accompanied by direct changes in plasma protein and osmolyte contents. With exercise on day 0, PV decreased by 7.1 +/- 0.7% at 5 min of exercise and remained decreased (-6.7 +/- 1.3%) at 5 min of recovery. By day 21, PV decreased significantly less than on day 0 (by 5.2 +/- 0.9% at 5 min of exercise), was decreased by only 2.0 +/- 1.6% at 5 min of recovery, and was fully restored at 15 min of recovery. Plasma Na(+) concentration increased 3 meq/l during the first 5 min of exercise and was normalized by 5 min of recovery on day 0 and by end exercise on day 21. It is concluded that improved ability to regulate PV during exercise in response to heat acclimatization is associated with an increased PV and an improved conservation of Na(+).  相似文献

Measurements of respiratory exchanges in genuine exercise conditions are undoubtedly of interest to further define the energy needs of endurance horses. However, the equine K4b2, the gas exchanges portable device validated for equines, has not been used in Arabian endurance horses yet. Therefore, the objective of this study was to implement field cardio-respiratory measurements in such horses using the equine K4b2 in order to assess energy expenditure (EE). Measurements of heart rate (HR), oxygen uptake (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2), respiratory frequency (RF), tidal volume (VT) and minute expired volume (VE) were carried out at rest and during a 20-min submaximal incremental field exercise in five trained Arabian endurance horses equipped with the K4b2 system. The relationship between HR and VO2 was determined for each horse. EE of the exercise session was calculated from direct VO2 measurements and individual HR-VO2 regression. Out of the five horses, four tolerated the equipment. Respiratory and metabolic variables at rest and during exercise, as well as EE measured at the different gaits, were consistent with reported values in exercising horses: VO2 ranged from 4.8 to 54.1 ml/min per kg from rest to canter, respectively, and EE from 82 to 1095 J/min per kg BW. The 20-min exercise session EE accounted for 6258 and 6332 J from direct VO2 measurements and individual HR-VO2 regression, respectively, which did not differ significantly. Providing an adaptation period and several technical adjustments, the present equine K4b2 could be used to assess EE in Arabian endurance horses in a controlled environment. The prediction of EE from the individual VO2–HR relationship might be an alternative method to evaluate EE when VO2 measurements are not possible.  相似文献

Background

Menstruation is associated with significant unpleasantness, and wearing a sanitary napkin (SN) during menses causes discomfort. In addition, many Muslim women use a thick type of SN during menses due to the religious requirement that even disposable SNs be washed before disposal. Therefore, the objective of this study was to measure the physiological and psychological responses to wearing SNs of different thicknesses during menstruation and non-menstruation phases at rest and during physical activity/exercise among Muslim women.

Methods

Eighteen Muslim females were randomly assigned to wear an ultra slim type (US, thin) or a maxi type (MT, thick) SN on two different occasions (i.e., during non-menses and menses). Each subject tested both types of SN. Upon arriving at the laboratory, each subject was equipped with an ambulatory electrocardiograph and rested in a seated position for 10 min. She was then given either an US or MT SN, put it in place, and rested in a seated position for 10 min. Each subject then walked at 3 km/h for 10 min, sat resting for 10 min, and then walked at 5 km/h for another 10 min. At the end of each 10-min stage, subjects marked their feelings of discomfort on the visual analog scale (VAS). Perceived exertion during exercise was evaluated using the Borg scale. Heart rate and low frequency-to-high frequency ratio (LF/HF) of heart rate variability were continuously recorded during rest and exercise.

Results

During both the non-menses and menses trials, VAS and LF/HF were significantly lower in subjects using the US SN compared to the MT SN. These results indicate that when wearing the US SN, subjects were more comfortable and did not increase sympathetic activities. Meanwhile, perceived exertion during exercise had no significant difference between US and MT although the means of the scores for US tended to be lower than those of MT.

Conclusions

The results of this study (VAS and LF/HF) indicate that wearing an US SN induces less physiological and psychological stress compared to wearing a MT SN. Thus, use of the former will empower women to live their lives with vitality during menses.  相似文献

In a randomized, balanced, crossover study each of six fit, adult horses ran on a treadmill at 50% of maximal rate of oxygen consumption for 60 min after being denied access to food for 18 h and then 1) fed corn (51.4 kJ/kg digestible energy), or 2) fed an isocaloric amount of alfalfa 2-3 h before exercise, or 3) not fed before exercise. Feeding corn, compared with fasting, resulted in higher plasma glucose and serum insulin and lower serum nonesterified fatty acid concentrations before exercise (P < 0.05) and in lower plasma glucose, serum glycerol, and serum nonesterified fatty acid concentrations and higher skeletal muscle utilization of blood-borne glucose during exercise (P < 0.05). Feeding corn, compared with feeding alfalfa, resulted in higher carbohydrate oxidation and lower lipid oxidation during exercise (P < 0.05). Feeding a soluble carbohydrate-rich meal (corn) to horses before exercise results in increased muscle utilization of blood-borne glucose and carbohydrate oxidation and in decreased lipid oxidation compared with a meal of insoluble carbohydrate (alfalfa) or not feeding. Carbohydrate feedings did not produce a sparing of muscle glycogen compared with fasting.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of wearing different kinds of masks on the ear canal temperature, heart rate, clothing microclimate, and subjective perception of discomfort. Ten subjects performed intermittent exercise on a treadmill while wearing the protective masks in a climatic chamber controlled at an air temperature of 25 degrees C and a relative humidity of 70%. Two types of mask-mask A, with exhaust valves and mask B, with exhaust holes-were used in the study. The results of this study indicated: (1) The subjects had a tendency toward lower maximum heart rate when wearing mask A than when wearing mask B. (2) Temperatures and absolute humidities (the outer surface of mask, the microclimate inside the mask, the chest wall skin and microclimate) of mask A were significantly lower than those of mask B. (3) The ear canal temperature increased significantly in mask B as compared to that in mask A. (4) The ear canal temperature showed significant augmentation along with increased temperature and humidity inside the mask microclimate. The mask microclimate temperature also affected significantly the chest microclimate temperature. (5) Mask A was rated significantly lower for perception of humidity, heat, breath resistance, tightness, unfitness, odor, fatigue, and offered less overall discomfort than mask B. (6) Subjective preference for mask A was higher. (7) The ratings of subjective overall discomfort showed significant augmentation along with increased wetness and fatigue. We discuss how the ventilation properties of masks A and B induce significantly different temperature and humidity in the microclimates of the masks and the heat loss of the body, which have profound influences on heart rate, thermal stress, and subjective perception of discomfort.  相似文献

Pulsatile properties of luteinizing hormone (LH) and growth hormone (GH) release were evaluated in 19 eumenorrheic untrained females [mean age 31.1 +/- 1.1 yr, height 165.2 +/- 1.4 cm, weight 64.8 +/- 2.1 kg, peak oxygen uptake (Vo2) 41.6 +/- 1.4 (SE) ml.kg-1.min-1] during the early follicular phase of the menstrual cycle (days 3-4 after the onset of menses). Each subject was studied during two consecutive menstrual cycles under each of two conditions in random order: 1) no formal exercise for 72 h (C) and 2) 12-24 h after two maximal exercise bouts (peak Vo2/lactate threshold treadmill evaluation and a 3,200-m time-trial run or a maximal Vo2 inclined treadmill test) performed on consecutive days (EX). Blood sampling was performed every 10 min for 12 h. LH and GH pulsatile parameters were identified and characterized by the Cluster pulse detection algorithm. No significant differences were noted in the number of peaks, peak amplitude, interpeak interval, peak increment, or 12-h integrated concentrations between C and EX for LH or GH. We conclude that maximal exercise protocols typically used for exercise evaluation do not have an effect on the pulsatile characteristics of LH or GH release in untrained women during the early follicular phase of the menstrual cycle if 12-24 h of recovery are allowed before evaluation of the pulsatile secretion of gonadotropins or GH.  相似文献

This study examined the effects of preexercise glucose administration, with and without epinephrine infusion, on carbohydrate metabolism in horses during exercise. Six horses completed 60 min of treadmill exercise at 55 +/- 1% maximum O(2) uptake 1) 1 h after oral administration of glucose (2 g/kg; G trial); 2) 1 h after oral glucose and with an intravenous infusion of epinephrine (0.2 micromol. kg(-1). min(-1); GE trial) during exercise, and 3) 1 h after water only (F trial). Glucose administration (G and GE) caused hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia ( approximately 8 mM). In GE, plasma epinephrine concentrations were three- to fourfold higher than in the other trials. Compared with F, the glucose rate of appearance was approximately 50% and approximately 33% higher in G and GE, respectively, during exercise. The glucose rate of disappearance was approximately 100% higher in G than in F, but epinephrine infusion completely inhibited the increase in glucose uptake associated with glucose administration. Muscle glycogen utilization was higher in GE [349 +/- 44 mmol/kg dry muscle (dm)] than in F (218 +/- 28 mmol/kg dm) and G (201 +/- 35 mmol/kg dm). We conclude that 1) preexercise glucose augments utilization of plasma glucose in horses during moderate-intensity exercise but does not alter muscle glycogen usage and 2) increased circulating epinephrine inhibits the increase in glucose rate of disappearance associated with preexercise glucose administration and increases reliance on muscle glycogen for energy transduction.  相似文献

Gastric emptying is increased during running (50%-70% maximal aerobic uptake, VO2max) as compared to rest. Whether this increase varies as a function of mode (i.e. walking vs running) and intensity of treadmill exercise is unknown. To examine the gastric emptying characteristics of water during treadmill exercise performed over a wide range of intensities relative to resting conditions, 10 men ingested 400 ml of water prior to each of six 15 min exercise bouts or 15 min of seated rest. Three bouts of walking exercise (1.57 m.s-1) were performed at increasing grades eliciting approximately 28%, 41% or 56% of VO2max. On a separate day, three bouts of running (2.68 ms-1) exercise were performed at grades eliciting approximately 57%, 65% or 75% of VO2max. Gastric emptying was increased during treadmill exercise at all intensities excluding 75% VO2max as compared to rest. Gastric emptying was similar for all intensities during walking and at 57% and 65% VO2max during running. However, running at 74% VO2max decreased the volume of original drink emptied as compared to all lower exercise intensities. Stomach secretions were markedly less during running as compared to walking and rest. These data demonstrate that gastric emptying is similarly increased during both moderate intensity (approximately 28%-65% VO2max) walking or running exercise as compared to resting conditions. However, gastric emptying decreases during high intensity exercise. Increases in gastric emptying during moderate intensity treadmill exercise may be related to increases in intragastric pressure brought about by contractile activity of the abdominal muscles.  相似文献

The effect of substrate utilization manipulated by caffeine on post-exercise oxygen consumption was investigated in five untrained females (age = 21 +/- 1.5 years), following 90 min of treadmill walking at 55% maximal oxygen consumption. Each subject participated in the two trials (control and experimental) within 2 weeks of each other. Immediately following the measurement of resting oxygen consumption, subjects consumed one of the two test beverages 60 min prior to exercise: 5 mg of caffeine per kg of body-weight in 200 ml of orange juice (CA) or 200 ml of orange juice (C). Assignment of CA and C was made in a random, double blind fashion. Immediately prior to the exercise phase (0 min) resting oxygen consumption was again measured. Following exercise, subjects returned to the same pre-exercise sitting position where respiratory data was collected over 1 h. No significant differences were found in resting oxygen consumption and respiratory exchange ratio (R) prior to caffeine ingestion (-60 min). One hour after caffeine ingestion (0 min) oxygen consumption and free fatty acid (FFA) levels increased significantly compared to C. During and 1 h following exercise, oxygen consumption and FFA levels were significantly greater, with R values being significantly lower in CA compared to C. These findings provide further evidence that metabolic substrate is somehow implicated in elevating oxygen consumption following exercise cessation.  相似文献

Little is known about respiratory muscle function in acute undernutrition, although an inadequate caloric intake is common in numerous disease states. Twelve young-adult, healthy female volunteers performed two familiarization experiments and were then studied after 7 days of consuming 40% of normal daily caloric intake as well as after 1 wk of normal caloric intake. In each experiment subjects performed tests of resting pulmonary function, inspiratory muscle strength, and ventilatory endurance, the last of which involved two 60-s and two 6-min isocapnic maximum voluntary ventilation maneuvers. Subjects then walked to exhaustion in 8-20 min on a treadmill. The caloric restriction did not affect performance of any breathing test but did lower endurance time in severe treadmill exercise (P less than 0.05). Basal metabolic rate was lowered, resting blood levels of free fatty acids and beta-hydroxybutyrate elevated, and glucose lowered following the caloric restriction (P less than 0.05). Blood lactate levels were lower during and after exercise following caloric restriction (P less than 0.05). We conclude that ventilatory muscle strength and endurance are fully preserved in caloric restriction severe enough to cause mild ketoacidosis and hypoglycemia, lowered basal metabolic rate, and decreased endurance in severe treadmill exercise.  相似文献

Measurements of metabolic rate in rats: a comparison of techniques   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Two different open-circuit techniques of measuring metabolic rate were examined in rats at rest and during exercise. With one technique ambient air was drawn through a tightly fitting mask that was secured to the rat's head, whereas with the other technique the rat was placed into and ambient air was drawn through a Plexiglas box. Two series of experiments were performed. In series I, two groups were studied that consisted of rats that had received myocardial infarctions produced by coronary arterial ligations and rats that had received sham operations. In this series of experiments O2 uptake (VO2) and CO2 production (VCO2) were measured at rest, during four levels of submaximal exercise, and during maximal treadmill exercise in the same group of rats by use of both techniques in random order. VO2, VCO2, and the calculated respiratory exchange ratio (R) were similar at rest, during the highest level of submaximal exercise (20% grade, 37 m/min), and during maximal exercise; however, VO2 and VCO2 were significantly lower with the metabolic box technique compared with the mask technique during the three lowest work loads (5% grade, 19 m/min; 10% grade, 24 m/min; and 15% grade, 31 m/min). These differences appeared to be associated with a change in gait produced when the mask was worn. In series II, the arterial blood gas and acid-base responses to both submaximal and maximal exercise were measured using both techniques in a group of instrumented rats that had a catheter placed into the right carotid artery.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Kingston, Janene K., Raymond J. Geor, and Laura JillMcCutcheon. Rate and composition of sweat fluid losses areunaltered by hypohydration during prolonged exercise in horses.J. Appl. Physiol. 83(4):1133-1143, 1997. Rate and ionic composition of sweat fluid losses and partitioning of evaporative heat loss into respiratory and cutaneous components were determined in six horses during three 15-km phases of exercise at ~40% of maximalO2 uptake. Pattern of change insweat rate (SR) and composition was similar during each phase. SRincreased rapidly for the first 20 min of exercise but remained at~24-28ml · m2 · min1during the remainder of each phase. Similarly, the concentrations of Naand Cl in sweat increased until 30 min of exercise but were unchangedthereafter. Sweat osmolality and concentrations of Na and Cl werepositively correlated with SR. Sweat K concentration decreased duringexercise but was not correlated with SR. Fluid losses were 33.8 ± 1.5 liters, resulting in decreases of ~21% in plasma volume and~11% in total body water. The ~6% hypohydration was notassociated with an alteration in SR, sweat composition, or heatstorage. Respiratory and cutaneous evaporative heat loss represented~23 and 70%, respectively, of the total heat dissipated, and thepartitioning of heat loss was similar in each exercise phase. Weconclude that SR and the relative proportions of respiratory andcutaneous evaporative heat loss are unchanged in horses during prolonged low-intensity exercise despite moderate hypohydration.

Infrared thermography (IRT) was used to assess surface temperature change as an indirect measure of muscle activity and exercise associated changes in blood flow in the working hind limb muscles of horses (n=7) undergoing water treadmill exercise. Three treatments were investigated including the treadmill ran dry (TD), water at the height of the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP) and water at the height of the carpus (CP). Maximum skin surface temperature was recorded from the region of the semitendinosus muscle during exercise at each water height. There was a significant difference in surface hind limb temperature between exercise on the water treadmill ran dry and with water at the height of the PIP and CP (P<0.0001) with hotter temperatures recorded during the TD treatment. There was a greater increase in surface temperature of the hind limbs from pre exercise to maximum temperature during the PIP and CP treatments when compared to the TD treatment, however, this was not significant (P=0.58). There was no significant difference in surface hind limb temperature found between exercise in water at the height of the PIP and water at the height of the CP. The findings from this study suggest that IRT is able to non-invasively detect muscle activity and associated changes in blood flow whilst horses are exercised on a water treadmill. IRT could potentially be used as an alternative method to assess muscle activity and temperature change in an aquatic environment where existing methods present methodological challenges.  相似文献

The novel aim of this study was to describe the reference values of different haematological and biochemical parameters in the Spanish purebred horse (Andalusian, SPB) in each of the stages of a programmed exercise on a treadmill system, and to establish heritability and genetic correlations for these haematological and biochemical parameters. For this, 94 young SPB male horses (4.22 ± 2.27 years old) were used. An increasing intensity exercise test at 4, 5, 6 and 7 m/s was carried out on a treadmill (6% inclination). Total red blood cells, total white blood cells, neutrophils and lymphocytes counts; haematocrit, haemoglobin, lactate, uric acid, creatinine and total plasma proteins concentrations and aspartate transaminase, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine-quinase activities were determined. To conclude: (i) the reference values for each parameter were determined for each of the exercise test stages (ii) all the parameters analysed manifested a medium-high heritability and a high repeatability. These results will, in the near future, determine the measuring guidelines for improving the SPB horse's athletic ability on an objective treadmill system and for selecting these animals in response to those parameters.  相似文献

Continuous breath-by-breath measurements of ventilatory parameters were performed during submaximal and maximal treadmill exercise in 21 highly conditioned oarsmen. Average maximum values of O2 uptake, minute ventilation (VI), tidal volume (VT), and respiratory frequency (f) were 6.60 l/min (73.5 ml X kg-1 X min-1), 200 l/min, 3.29 l, and 62 breaths/min, respectively. During the transition from moderate to heavy submaximal exercise, VT and f increased progressively. At near-maximal to maximal work loads, VT plateaued and then decreased slightly, while f continued to increase. Increase in f at the start of exercise was achieved predominantly by an abrupt decrease in expiratory duration (TE) with an equally abrupt, but much smaller, decrease in inspiratory duration (TI). During the transition from submaximal to maximal exercise, both TE and TI decreased progressively. Although f appeared to be entrained by stepping rate in a few subjects, the dominant trend during submaximal to maximal exercise was characterized by a relatively small increase in stepping rate with a much larger increment in f. Our data are consistent with the conclusion that exercise breathing patterns are determined by many interacting factors that vary at different work loads, in different individuals, and are probably also influenced by physical conditioning and previous experience.  相似文献
