The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Swiss-ball core strength training on trunk extensor (abdominal)/flexor (lower back) and lower limb extensor (quadriceps)/flexor (hamstring) muscular strength, abdominal, lower back and leg endurance, flexibility and dynamic balance in sedentary women (n = 21; age = 34 ± 8.09; height = 1.63 ± 6.91 cm; weight = 64 ± 8.69 kg) trained for 45 minutes, 3 d·wk-1 for 12 weeks. Results of multivariate analysis revealed significant difference (p ≤ 0.05) between pre and postmeasures of 60 and 90° s trunk flexion/extension, 60 and 240° s-1 lower limb flexion/extension (Biodex Isokinetic Dynamometer), abdominal endurance (curl-up test), lower back muscular endurance (modified Sorensen test), lower limb endurance (repetitive squat test), lower back flexibility (sit and reach test), and dynamic balance (functional reach test). The results support the fact that Swiss-ball core strength training exercises can be used to provide improvement in the aforementioned measures in sedentary women. In conclusion, this study provides practical implications for sedentary individuals, physiotherapists, strength and conditioning specialists who can benefit from core strength training with Swiss balls.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro cytotoxicity and the in vivo analgesic effect and local toxicity of the local anesthetic butamben (BTB) encapsulated in conventional or elastic liposomes incorporated in gel formulations. The results showed that both gel formulations of liposomal BTB reduced the cytotoxicity (p?<?0.001; one-way ANOVA/Tukey’s test) and increased the topical analgesic effect (p?<?0.05; one-way ANOVA/Tukey’s test) of butamben, compared to plain BTB gel. The gel formulations presented good rheological properties, and stability assays detected no differences in physicochemical stability up to 30 d after preparation. Moreover, histological assessment revealed no morphological changes in rat skin after application of any of the gel formulations tested.  相似文献

The local dynamic stability of trunk movements, quantified using the maximum Lyapunov exponent (λmax), can provide important information on the neuromuscular control of spine stability during movement tasks. Although previous research has displayed the promise of this technique, all studies were completed with healthy participants. Therefore the goal of this study was to compare the dynamic stability of spine kinematics and trunk muscle activations, as well as antagonistic muscle co-contraction, between athletes with and without low back pain (LBP). Twenty interuniversity varsity athletes (10 LBP, 10 healthy controls) were recruited to participate in the study. Each participant completed a repetitive trunk flexion task at 15 cycles per minute, both symmetrically and asymmetrically, while trunk kinematics and muscular activity (EMG) were monitored. The local dynamic stability of low back EMG was significantly higher (lower λmax) in healthy individuals (p=0.002), whereas the dynamic stability of kinematics, the dynamic stability of full trunk system EMG, and the amount of antagonistic co-contraction were significantly higher when moving asymmetrically (p<0.05 for all variables). Although non-significant, kinematic and trunk system EMG stability also tended to be impaired in LBP participants, whereas they also tended to co-contract their antagonist muscles more. This study provides evidence that Lyapunov analyses of kinematic and muscle activation data can provide insight into the neuromuscular control of spine stability in back pain participants. Future research will repeat these protocols in patients with higher levels of pain, with hopes of developing a tool to assess impairment and treatment effectiveness in clinical and workplace settings.  相似文献

Flexion relaxation of erector spinae response to spinal shrinkage   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of spinal shrinkage on the characteristic of flexion relaxation phenomenon in erector spinae muscle. Twelve male university students volunteered for this study. The spinal shrinkage was created with a load of 20% body weight on shoulder in 10 min. Each performed three trials of lumbar flexion-extension with the cycle of 5s flexion and 5s extension in standing before and after shrinkage. Surface electromyography from right erector spinae muscle as well as trunk flexion performance was recorded synchronously in video camera. A one-way ANOVA with repeated measures was used to evaluate the effect of shrinkage. The results showed that there was a significant (p<0.001) stature change with mean magnitude of shrinkage 5.9 mm. The erector spinae was active through a significantly larger angle during flexion and began activity significantly earlier during extension after shrinkage. It was concluded that shrinkage caused by prolonged compressive loading will elicit the change of flexion relaxation characteristic, which may be closely related to low back disorder.  相似文献

Four randomized groups of male mice Fl (C57Black/CBA) were investigated: (a) UV-irraidated (UV-A, 15 min daily over 10 months, 51 ± 7 W/m2); (b) γ-ray irradiated (2 Gy), single; (c) influence of combination of UV- and γ-ray treatment; (d) aging. The lens opacities were measured at the seventh and tenth month. An expert method based on a six-point scale was used for cataract measurement. At the seventh month, the median of lens opacities were Aging group = 0; UV-irradiated group = 2.5; γ-irradiated group = 4.75; γ- and UV-irradiated group = 6.0. The difference between all groups was significant (p < 0.004, Kruskall-Wallis ANOVA test). The Conover post hock test has shown a significant difference for all comparison pairs (p < 0.002) with the exception of the γ- and UV-irradiated group. At the tenth month, the lens opacities strongly increased: Aging group = 2.5; UV-irradiated group = 5.0; γ-irradiated group = 6.5; γ- and UV-irradiated group = 7.5 (median). The difference between groups was significant (p < 0.0001, Kruskall-Willis ANOVA test). The Conover post hock test has shown a significant difference for all comparison pairs (p < 0.003) with the exception of the UV-irradiated group and γ-irradiated group. No formation of specific lens opacities for any group was found. Morphology and protein composition were investigated at the tenth month. The results of a study of morphological changes show destructive and degenerative impairments of the capsule, epithelium cages, and lens fibers. However, no specific changes related to certain particular actions have been found. In addition, there were no specific changes in the protein composition of either water-soluble and water-insoluble fractions estimated by the differential gel electrophoresis technique. The data mean that aging, UV treatment, and γ-radiation causes similar lens changes. It was supposed that UV treatment and/or γ-radiation act as an aging factor on the lens.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to compare the steadiness index of spinal regions during single-leg standing in older adults with and without chronic low back pain (LBP) and to correlate measurements of steadiness index with the performance of clinical balance tests. Thirteen community-dwelling older adults (aged 55 years or above) with chronic LBP and 13 age- and gender-matched asymptomatic volunteers participated in this study. Data collection was conducted in a university research laboratory. Measurements were steadiness index of spinal regions (trunk, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, and pelvis) during single-leg standing including relative holding time (RHT) and relative standstill time (RST), and clinical balance tests (timed up and go test and 5-repetition sit to stand test). The LBP group had a statistically significantly smaller RHT than the control group, regardless of one leg stance on the painful or non-painful sides. The RSTs on the painful side leg in the LBP group were not statistically significantly different from the average RSTs of both legs in the control group; however, the RSTs on the non-painful side leg in the LBP group were statistically significantly smaller than those in the control group for the trunk, thoracic spine, and lumbar spine. No statistically significant intra-group differences were found in the RHTs and RSTs between the painful and non-painful side legs in the LBP group. Measurements of clinical balance tests also showed insignificant weak to moderate correlations with steadiness index. In conclusion, older adults with chronic LBP demonstrated decreased spinal steadiness not only in the symptomatic lumbar spine but also in the other spinal regions within the kinetic chain of the spine. When treating older adults with chronic LBP, clinicians may also need to examine their balance performance and spinal steadiness during balance challenging tests.  相似文献

Differences in synchronous movement between the trunk and lower limb during lifting have been reported in chronic low back pain (CLBP) patients compared to healthy people. However, the relationship between movement coordination and disability in CLBP patients has not been investigated. A cross-sectional study was conducted to compare regional lumbar and lower limb coordination between CLBP (n = 43) and control (n = 29) groups. The CLBP group was divided into high- and low-disability groups based on their Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score. The mean absolute relative phase (MARP) angles and mean deviation phase (DP) between the (1) lumbar spine and hip, and (2) hip and knee were measured. The relationship between MARP angle and DP and ODI were investigated using linear regression. The higher-disability CLBP group demonstrated significantly greater lumbar-hip MARP angles than the lower-disability CLBP group (mean difference = 12.97, % difference = 36, p = 0.041, 95% CI [2.97, 22.98]). The higher-disability CLBP group demonstrated significantly smaller hip-knee DP than controls (mean difference = 0.11, % difference = 76, p = 0.011, 95% CI [0.03, 0.19]). There were no significant differences in lumbar-hip and hip-knee MARP and DP between the lower-disability CLBP and control groups. Lumbar-hip MARP was positively associated with ODI (R2 = 0.092, β = 0.30, p = 0.048). High-disability CLBP patients demonstrated decreased lumbar-hip movement coordination and stiffer hip-knee movement during lifting than low-disability CLBP patients and healthy controls.  相似文献

Abstract

The spine or ‘back’ has many functions including supporting our body frame whilst facilitating movement, protecting the spinal cord and nerves and acting as a shock absorber. In certain instances, individuals may develop conditions that not only cause back pain but also may require additional support for the spine. Common movements such as twisting, standing and bending motions could exacerbate these conditions and intensify this pain. Back braces can be used in certain instances to constrain such motion as part of an individual’s therapy and have existed as both medical and retail products for a number of decades. Arguably, back brace designs have lacked the innovation expected in this time. Existing designs are often found to be heavy, overly rigid, indiscrete and largely uncomfortable. In order to facilitate the development of new designs of back braces capable of being optimised to constrain particular motions for specific therapies, a numerical and experimental design strategy has been devised, tested and proven for the first time. The strategy makes use of an experimental test rig in conjunction with finite element analysis simulations to investigate and quantify the effects of back braces on flexion, extension, lateral bending and torsional motions as experienced by the human trunk. This paper describes this strategy and demonstrates its effectiveness through the proposal and comparison of two novel back brace designs.  相似文献

Background

The shape of the torso in patients with idiopathic scoliosis is considered to reflect the shape of the vertebral column, however the direct correlation between parameters describing clinical deformity and those characterizing radiological curvature was reported to be weak. It is not clear if the management proposed for scoliosis (physiotherapy, brace, surgery) affects equally the shape of the axial skeleton and the surface of the body. The aim of the study was to compare clinical deformity of (1) idiopathic scoliosis girls being under brace treatment for radiological curves of 25 to 40 degrees and (2) non treated scoliotic girls matched for age and Cobb angle.

Methods

Cross-sectional study of 24 girls wearing the brace versus 26 girls without brace treatment, matched for age and Cobb angle. Hypothesis: Patients wearing the brace for more than 6 months, when comparing to patients without brace, may present different external morphology of the trunk, in spite of having similar Cobb angle. Material. Inclusion criteria: girls, idiopathic scoliosis, growing age (10–16 years), Cobb angle minimum 25°, maximum 40°. The braced group consisted of girls wearing a TLSO brace (Cheneau) for more than 6 months with minimum of 16 hours per day. The non-braced group consisted of girls first seen for their spinal deformity, previously not treated. The groups presented similar curve pattern. Methods. Scoliometer exam: angle of trunk rotation at three levels of the spine: upper thoracic, main thoracic, lumbar or thoracolumbar. The maximal angle was noted at each level and the sum of three levels was calculated. Posterior trunk symmetry index (POTSI) and Hump Sum were measured using surface topography.

Results

Cobb angle was 34.9° ± 4.8° in braced and 32.7° ± 4.9° in un-braced patients (difference not significant). The age was 14.1 ± 1.6 years in braced patients and 13.1 ± 1.9 years in un-braced group (p = 0.046). The value of angle of trunk rotation in the main curvature was 8.4° ± 2.7°in braced and 11.4° ± 2.7° in un-braced patients (difference extremely significant, p = 0.0003). The value of the sum of angles of trunk rotation at three levels of the trunk was 12.8° ± 4.6° in braced and 16.5° ± 3.8° in un-braced patients (difference very significant, p = 0.0038). The POTSI did not differ significantly between the groups (p = 0.78), the Hump Sum values were not quite different (p = 0.07).

Conclusion

(1) Adolescent girls wearing the brace for idiopathic scoliosis of 25 to 40 degrees of Cobb angle, reveal smaller clinical rotational deformity of their back than non-treated girls having similar radiological deformity. (2) evaluation of the results of treatment for idiopathic scoliosis should consider parameters describing both clinical and radiological deformity.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the responses of the spine during sudden loading in the presence of back and abdominal muscle fatigue, with a primary focus on the implications for spinal stability. Fifteen females were studied and each received sudden loads to the hands, at both known and unknown times. Participants received these loading trials (a) while rested, (b) with back muscle fatigue, and (c) with a combination of back and abdominal muscle fatigue. Measures were taken on the EMG activity of two trunk extensor and two abdominal muscles, and on the trunk angle and centre of pressure. A 3 × 2 Repeated Measures ANOVA was also performed. There were no preparations made prior to the perturbation even when it could be anticipated. However, the peak responses that followed were greater in the unexpected versus the expected condition. In addition, trunk muscle fatigue led to an increase in the baseline activity of the trunk muscles but no additional increase in activity just prior to loading. There was increased activation of both (opposing) muscle groups when only one muscle group was fatigued. Because the peak responses following the perturbation were enhanced in the unknown timing condition, preparations must have taken place prior to the anticipated perturbations, perhaps in other segments of the body that were not measured. Also, the load impact may not have been great enough to elicit large preparations. The heightened baseline activity with fatigue suggests that there may have been increased spinal stiffness whenever the spine was fatigued, and not just immediately prior to an impending perturbation. The increased activation of opposing muscle groups is evidence of increased cocontraction in response to fatigue, possibly to maintain stability with decreasing coordination.  相似文献

Stability ball training (SBT) is believed to improve spinal stability (SS) and could reduce the risk of back pain in sedentary individuals. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of SBT on SS. Twenty sedentary individuals were randomly assigned to either an experimental group that performed SBT twice per week for 10 weeks or to a control group. Differences between groups were assessed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated measures. The experimental group improved significantly (p < 0.05) on the static back-endurance test from pretest (149.3 +/- 72.3 seconds) to posttest (194.6 +/- 56.7 seconds) and the side bridge test from pretest (45.4 +/- 39.4 seconds) to posttest (71.3 +/- 59.7 seconds). Back endurance for the control group did not change from pretest (123.4 +/- 64.9 seconds) to posttest (87.5 +/- 40.2 seconds), nor did the results of the side bridge test change for this group from pretest (41.8 +/- 26.4 seconds) to posttest (51.6 +/- 35.9 seconds). These findings illustrate that SBT may provide improvements in SS within this population. Practitioners might use SBT exercises where the position of the spine is maintained during the early phases of back-pain prevention programs. This type of programming might be beneficial to individuals who spend a good deal of time sitting (i.e., in corporate fitness programs) or for individuals who are prone to back pain and have been cleared to exercise. Also, the side bridge and static back endurance assessments may be good choices for measuring SS in field settings.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of a 10-week dynamic back extension training programme and its effects on back muscle strength, back muscle endurance and spinal range of motion (ROM) for healthy young females. Seventy-three young females (age: 19.32±1.80 years, height: 158.89±4.71 cm, body weight: 55.67±6.30 kg) volunteered for the study. Prior to the training period, all participants completed anthropometric measurements, back muscle strength and endurance test, lateral bending and spinal ROM measurements. After measurements, the participants were divided into two groups. The exercise group (N:35) performed the dynamic back extension exercise 3 days per week for 10 weeks. The control group (N:38) did not participate in any type of exercise. The mixed design ANOVA (group x time) was used to determine the difference in pre- and post-training values. The present findings show that there were significant differences between pre-training and post-training values for back muscle strength and spinal ROM in the exercise group. Following the dynamic strength training programme, back muscle strength and spine ROM values except flexion of the lumbar 5-sacrum 1 (L5-S1) segment of the exercise group showed a significant increase when compared with the pre test values. The control group did not show any significant changes when compared with the pre-training values. The results demonstrate that the 10-week dynamic strength training programme was effective for spinal extension ROM and back muscle strength, but there was no change in back muscle endurance. In this context, this programme could potentially be used to prevent the decrease of spinal ROM as well as provide an increase in the fitness parameters of healthy individuals.  相似文献

Background: Test–retest reliability is important to establish for any diagnostic tool. The reliability of quantitative sensory testing (QST) in the trigeminal region has recently been described in Caucasians as well as differences in absolute thresholds and responses between Caucasians and Chinese. However, the test–retest reliability has not been determined in a Chinese population.

Objective: To provide novel information on the test–retest reliability of thermal QST in the trigeminal and spinal system in healthy Chinese.

Methods: Twenty healthy volunteers (10 women and 10 men) participated. Cold detection threshold (CDT), warm detection threshold (WDT), cold pain threshold (CPT), and heat pain threshold (HPT) were measured at two sites: the surface of the left hand and the left masseter. The testing was performed over three consecutive stimuli trials, three sessions conducted on one day and repeated one week later. Data were analyzed with intra-tester reliability test and four-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measures.

Results: There was a tendency for the first trial in CDT (p?=?0.005), CPT (p?=?0.02), and HPT (p?p?=?0.003) and HPT (p?=?0.045) with higher sensitivity at the masseter muscle. There were significant gender differences with higher sensitivity in women for CPT (p?=?0.001) and HPT (p?=?0.001).

Conclusion: Test site and gender affect thermal thresholds substantially. The test–retest reliability of most thermal threshold measures were acceptable for assessing somatosensory function, however, innocuous thresholds appear to be associated with larger variability than noxious thresholds in a Chinese population.  相似文献

Larger trunk and pelvic motions in persons with (vs. without) lower limb amputation during activities of daily living (ADLs) adversely affect the mechanical demands on the lower back. Building on evidence that such altered motions result in larger spinal loads during level-ground walking, here we characterize trunk-pelvic motions, trunk muscle forces, and resultant spinal loads among sixteen males with unilateral, transfemoral amputation (TFA) walking at a self-selected speed both up (“upslope”; 1.06 ± 0.14 m/s) and down (“downslope”; 0.98 ± 0.20 m/s) a 10-degree ramp. Tri-planar trunk and pelvic motions were obtained (and ranges-of-motion [ROM] computed) as inputs for a non-linear finite element model of the spine to estimate global and local muscle (i.e., trunk movers and stabilizers, respectively) forces, and resultant spinal loads. Sagittal- (p = 0.001), frontal- (p = 0.004), and transverse-plane (p < 0.001) trunk ROM, and peak mediolateral shear (p = 0.011) and local muscle forces (p = 0.010) were larger (respectively 45, 35, 98, 70, and 11%) in upslope vs. downslope walking. Peak anteroposterior shear (p = 0.33), compression (p = 0.28), and global muscle (p = 0.35) forces were similar between inclinations. Compared to previous reports of persons with TFA walking on level ground, 5–60% larger anteroposterior and mediolateral shear observed here (despite ∼0.25 m/s slower walking speeds) suggest greater mechanical demands on the low back in sloped walking, particularly upslope. Continued characterization of trunk motions and spinal loads during ADLs support the notion that repeated exposures to these larger-than-normal (i.e., vs. level-ground walking in TFA and uninjured cohorts) spinal loads contribute to an increased risk for low back injury following lower limb amputation.  相似文献

The correct expression of circadian rhythmicity is crucial for the body homeostasis. The rest-activity circadian rhythms (RARs) are involved in the control of the sleep-wake cycle and altered RARs could lead to a compromised health status. Many studies focused on examining sleep behavior and circadian rhythms in physically active subjects or athletes but, unexpectedly, no data on RARs are available. Therefore, we studied the existence of the RAR in athletes and the possible difference in RAR’s characteristics among sport disciplines. The study had a prospective observational design and RARs were recorded for five consecutive training days through actigraphy (Actiwatch 2 actigraph; Philips Respironics, OR, USA) in 43 athletes (mean age: 25.6 ± 3.2 years). Athletes competed in three different disciplines and had different training schedules and competition levels: professional triathletes (N = 10; 6 females and 4 males) had 2 morning (08:30–12:00) and 1 afternoon (15:00–17:00) training sessions, professional volleyball players (N = 19; 12 females and 7 males) used to train once in the morning (09:00–11:30) and once in the afternoon (15:00–18:00), and non-professional soccer players (N = 14; all males) trained always late in the evening (20:30–22:30). To determine the existence of RARs, the activity counts (A.C.) data were analyzed using the single and the population mean cosinor method; a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the Tukey–Kramer post-hoc test was used for the comparison of RAR characteristics among soccer, volleyball and triathlon athletes. Partial eta squared (?p2) was used to determine the magnitude of the effect for significant outcomes (α = 0.05) in ANOVA. The presence of a significant RAR both for each of the 43 athletes (p < 0.001) and for the three categories of athletes (p < 0.001) was observed. RARs differed among sport disciplines: the Midline Estimating Statistic of Rhythm (MESOR) was significantly higher in triathletes (mean: 347 A.C. with 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 314–379) compared to both volleyball (mean: 188 A.C. with 95% CI: 173–203; p < 0.001) and soccer players (mean: 289 A.C. with 95% CI: 267–312; p < 0.01) with ?p2 = 0.72. Amplitude (A) values showed the same significant trend of MESOR data (ANOVA: p < 0.001; ?p2 = 0.65) while the acrophase (Φ) occurred at 18:28 for soccer players, significantly later than triathlon (15:20 h; p < 0.001) and volleyball players (16:24 h; p < 0.001) (ANOVA: p < 0.001; ?p2 = 0.84). The higher training duration and intensity reached by triathlon athletes in the morning sessions caused a phase advance of their RAR’s acrophase Φ and higher MESOR and A amplitude compared to volleyball players and triathletes. Therefore, different sport disciplines require different training schedules, training loads and intensities that translate into different RARs. Strength coaches and medical staff of professional teams should strongly consider actigraphy as a practical and powerful tool to monitor RARs, sleep behavior, and the activity levels of their athletes; highlighting potential circadian disruptions through actigraphy could be helpful to prevent musculoskeletal injuries.  相似文献

Background

The functional polymorphism Val158Met in the catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene has been associated with differences in prefrontal cognitive functions in patients with schizophrenia and healthy individuals. Several studies have indicated that the Met allele is associated with better performance on measures of cognitive function. We investigated whether the COMT Val158Met genotype was associated with cognitive function in 149 healthy controls and 118 patients with schizophrenia.

Methods

Cognitive function, including verbal memory, working memory, motor speed, attention, executive function and verbal fluency, was assessed by the Brief Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia (BACS-J). We employed a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and a multiple regression analysis to determine the associations between the COMT Val158Met genotype and the BACS-J measurements.

Results

The one-way ANOVA revealed a significant difference in the scores on the Tower of London, a measure of executive function, between the different Val158Met genotypes in the healthy controls (p = 0.023), and a post-hoc analysis showed significant differences between the scores on the Tower of London in the val/val genotype group (18.6 ± 2.4) compared to the other two groups (17.6 ± 2.7 for val/met and 17.1 ± 3.2 for met/met; p = 0.027 and p = 0.024, respectively). Multiple regression analyses revealed that executive function was significantly correlated with the Val158Met genotype (p = 0.003). However, no evidence was found for an effect of the COMT on any cognitive domains of the BACS-J in the patients with schizophrenia.

Conclusion

These data support the hypothesis that the COMT Val158Met genotype maintains an optimal level of dopamine activity. Further studies should be performed that include a larger sample size and include patients on and off medication, as these patients would help to confirm our findings.  相似文献

RANKINEN, T., JACQUES GAGNON, LOUIS PÉRUSSE, TREVA RICE, ARTHUR s. LEON, JAMES s. SKINNER, JACK H. WILMORE, D. C. RAO, AND CLAUDE BOUCHARD. Body fat, resting and exercise blood pressure and the angiotensinogen M235T polymorphism: the Heritage family study. Obes Res. Objective: The association of resting and exercise blood pressure (BP) and fat mass with the angiotensinogen (AGT) M235T polymorphism was investigated in 522 sedentary Caucasian subjects from 99 families. Research Methods and Procedures: Resting BP was measured on two separate days, three times each day, and the mean of six valid measurements was used. Exercise BP was measured during a cycle ergometer test at a constant power output (50 W). Body composition was derived from underwater weighing and the AGT M235T polymorphism was typed with a polymerase chain reaction-based method. Results: Neither resting nor exercise BP was associated with the AGT genotypes. In mothers, the homozygotes for the T allele showed 8. 8 kg and 7. 1 kg greater (p = 0. 017) age-adjusted body fat mass (FM) than the MM homozygotes and heterozygotes, respectively. Sixty-nine percent of all TT homozygotes were found in the highest FM tertile, whereas only 16% of the MM homozygotes fell in the same tertile (p = 0. 008). Moreover, a significant interaction was seen between FM and T-allele carrier status in women with regard to resting diastolic BP (p = 0. 002). Among women with a FM≥24 kg, carriers of the T allele showed a 6. 3 mmHg higher diastolic blood pressure (DBP) than non-carriers whereas no difference was found in women with a FM less than 24 kg. A similar trend toward an interaction term was evident with resting systolic blood pressure (p = 0. 011) and exercise DBP (p = 0. 012). Body fat was not associated with the AGT polymorphism in fathers or in offspring. Discussion: These data suggest that the AGT M235T polymorphism is associated with body fatness in women, and that the relationship between DBP and AGT M235T polymorphism is dependent on FM in middle-aged sedentary normotensive women.  相似文献

Reliable computation of spinal loads and trunk stability under whole body vibrations with high acceleration contents requires accurate estimation of trunk muscle activities that are often overlooked in existing biodynamic models. A finite element model of the spine that accounts for nonlinear load- and direction-dependent properties of lumbar segments, complex geometry and musculature of the spine, and dynamic characteristics of the trunk was used in our iterative kinematics-driven approach to predict trunk biodynamics in measured vehicle's seat vibrations with shock contents of about 4g (g: gravity acceleration of 9.8m/s(2)) at frequencies of about 4 and 20Hz. Muscle forces, spinal loads and trunk stability were evaluated for two lumbar postures (erect and flexed) with and without coactivity in abdominal muscles. Estimated peak spinal loads were substantially larger under 4Hz excitation frequency as compared to 20Hz with the contribution of muscle forces exceeding that of inertial forces. Flattening of the lumbar lordosis from an erect to a flexed posture and antagonistic coactivity in abdominal muscles, both noticeably increased forces on the spine while substantially improving trunk stability. Our predictions clearly demonstrated the significant role of muscles in trunk biodynamics and associated risk of back injuries. High-magnitude accelerations in seat vibration, especially at near-resonant frequency, expose the vertebral column to large forces and high risk of injury by significantly increasing muscle activities in response to equilibrium and stability demands.  相似文献

Summary The amounts of self-fertilization versus consanguineous matings (as measured by effective selfing) was estimated in a seed orchard of Douglas-fir, using progeny array data at six allozyme loci. The orchard is family structured, consisting several grafts (clones) and/or open-pollinated (o-p) progeny from each of several plus-trees. Population-wide selfing rates were found to be 7% for the o-p trees and 2% for the cloned trees. Estimates of mating system parameters for individual trees showed this difference for average outcrossing rate t (1) still largely remained when outcrossingpollen gene frequency p was not allowed to vary among trees and (2) disappeared when p was allowed to vary among trees. Under this joint t and p estimation, o-p trees showed both significant variation of t (based upon a one-way ANOVA grouped by common plus-tree) and significant regressions of p on ovule genotype (indicative of consanguineous matings); cloned trees showed neither. This higher rate of consanguineous mating for o-p trees might be explained by the larger and more variable size of o-p families in the orchard. Estimates of outcrossing rate t and outcrossingpollen gene frequency p were based upon a multilocus model which makes full use of the information in the data. The increased information it gives over observed outcross models is equivalent to adding 30–50% more loci, and it gives enough degrees of freedom to jointly estimate t and p for individual trees (individual progeny arrays) under certain conditions. In addition, inclusion of megagametophyte data nearly doubles the information about the mating system of individual trees.  相似文献

The morphological variation of the endangered catfish Rita rita was studied based on meristic, length–weight relationship (LWR), traditional (TRA) and truss (TRU) distance based morphometric analysis of 200 juveniles collected from the Old Brahmaputra, Jamuna, Meghna and Kangsa rivers. Data were subjected to Kruskal–Wallis test for meristic counts, t test for LWR, univariate ANOVA, multivariate discriminant function analysis and canonical analysis (CA) both for TRA and TRU morphometric characters to discriminate the populations. Kruskal–Wallis test denoted that only one (caudal fin rays) out of six meristic counts was significantly (p < .05) variable among the stocks. One sample t test clarified that all parameters of LWR were significantly (p < .05) differentiated in all stocks. Univariate ANOVA revealed significant (p < .001, p < .01, and p < .05) differences among the four stocks in 14 of 15 standardized TRA traits and 17 of 25 TRU distances, respectively. The first discriminant function (DF1) explained 59.4% and 68.0% of total variance, while 30.6% and 23.1% by DF2, 10.0% and 8.9% by DF3 for TRA and TRU features, respectively among the stocks. CA showed a clear separation of the stocks both for TRA and TRU measurements. The overall random assignment of individuals into their original groups was high as 78.5% for TRA and 78.0% for TRU characters, respectively, indicating that all the four stocks are highly divergent from each other. The results exposed existence of four distinct phenotypic stocks of R. rita in the tested rivers.  相似文献
