This study provides a detailed pedogenic evaluation of two Upper Triassic (Late Norian through Rhaetian) stratigraphic intervals in New Mexico in order to assess the climate and ecology of the Latest Triassic, which ended in a mass extinction. The two study areas are located in north–central and east-central New Mexico and are separated by 200 km. Each section contains abundant paleosols of varying maturity with features that reflect an arid to semiarid climate. There is little pedogenic variation throughout the strata at each location, and a typical paleosol profile is about 1 m thick and has an AB–Bw–Bk–BC horizon succession. Bkm, Bss, Bssk, or Bssg horizons are present in some paleosols. Micromorphological features suggest dominantly well-drained sola (e.g., abundant carbonate nodules, illuviated clay) with minor periods of moist or saturated conditions (e.g., FeMn concretions, FeMn coatings and hypocoatings, sepic-plasmic fabrics). Trace fossils are abundant in these strata and are dominated by Taenidium serpentinum and root traces. Depth-to-carbonate functions estimate that mean annual precipitation was between 200 and 450 +/? 95 mm. Relative to location 1 (eastern New Mexico), location 2 (north–central New Mexico) produced higher paleo-precipitation estimates and has stronger and more abundant sepic-plasmic fabrics in thin sections. The presence of a gleyed paleosol, Camborygma eumnkenomos, and slickensides at location 2 also suggests conditions wetter than at location 1. Taxonomically, all of the paleosols in this study appear to be Entisols or Aridisols and can be grouped into seven representative pedotypes of varying maturity. By comparing these paleosols to modern soils, this study demonstrates that the Late Triassic Western Interior during the Late Norian to Rhaetian was arid to semiarid and supported a desert shrub environment that had localized and periodic moist or saturated soil conditions.  相似文献

The Urzhumian (Wordian) and Severodvinian (Capitanian) reference section of the Monastery Ravine (Kazan Volga region, Russia), contains two siltstone lithofacies: (a) laminated and (b) massive. Depositional settings of the laminated siltstones can be interpreted as perennial to ephemeral lakes; depositional settings of the massive siltstones are interpreted as floodplains with soil cover and periodical silt influx in wet seasons. The bulk geochemistry of siliciclastics has revealed a high degree of weathering of both types of siltstone. The similar chemical composition, mineralogy, and grain size suggest the same provenance of silt material. Geochemical data indicate eastern source rocks, which are the Permian red beds of the Cis-Ural plains.The main genetic types of paleosols hosted in the massive siltstones in the studied section, include moderately developed Vertisols and Calcisols with drab-colored root traces, calcareous nodules, low chroma mottles, angular blocky peds and slickensides. These pedofeatures indicate in general a semi-arid climate with clear seasonality of rainfall. Major oxides of the paleosol matrix were used to estimate paleoprecipitation through the bases to alumina (ΣBases/Al) ratio and chemical index of alteration minus potassium (CIA-K) proxies. Estimates from Urzhumian paleosols indicate relatively low mean annual precipitation (MAP) of 390 mm/yr. The transition to the Severodvinian paleosols is marked by a noticeable MAP increase up to 777 mm/yr. This climate moistening coincides with changes in the morphology of paleosols from dolomitic with low redoximorphy to calcitic with gley horizons. The pedogenic carbonate nodules consisting of dolomicrite (5–10 μm) are very common in the Urzhumian paleosols and their morphology, micromorhology and isotopic features indicate the pedogenic origin of dolomite.Sedimentological and paleopedological features of the studied siltstones, as well as the location of the Volga-Ural basin in a mid-latitude position (25–32 °N) indicate a monsoonal character of precipitation during the Middle Permian.  相似文献

The coralline algae in the orders Corallinales and Sporolithales (subclass Corallinophycidae), with their high degree of mineralogical variability, pose a challenge to projections regarding mineralogy and response to ocean acidification. Here we relate skeletal carbonate mineralogy to a well-established phylogenetic framework and draw inferences about the effects of future changes in sea-water chemistry on these calcified red algae. A collection of 191 coralline algal specimens from New Zealand, representing 13 genera and 28 species, included members of three families: Corallinaceae, Hapalidiaceae, and Sporolithaceae. While most skeletal specimens were entirely calcitic (range: 73–100 wt.% calcite, mean 97 wt.% calcite, std dev = 5, n = 172), a considerable number contained at least some aragonite. Mg in calcite ranged from 10.5 to 16.4 wt.% MgCO3, with a mean of 13.1 wt.% MgCO3 (std dev = 1.1, n = 172). The genera Mesophyllum and Lithophyllum were especially variable. Growth habit, too, was related to mineralogy: geniculate coralline algae do not generally contain any aragonite. Mg content varied among coralline families: the Corallinaceae had the highest Mg content, followed by the Sporolithaceae and the Hapalidiaceae. Despite the significant differences among families, variation and overlap prevent the use of carbonate mineralogy as a taxonomic character in the coralline algae. Latitude (as a proxy for water temperature) had only a slight relationship to Mg content in coralline algae, contrary to trends observed in other biomineralising taxa. Temperate magnesium calcites, like those produced by coralline algae, are particularly vulnerable to ocean acidification. Changes in biomineralisation or species distribution may occur over the next few decades, particularly to species producing high-Mg calcite, as pH and CO2 dynamics change in coastal temperate oceans.  相似文献

Knowledge of the composition and areal distribution of aquatic vegetation types, as well as their seasonal and interannual variations, is crucial for managing and maintaining the balance of lake ecosystems. In this study, a series of remotely sensed images with a resolution of 30 m (HJ-CCD and Landsat TM) were collected and used to map the distribution of aquatic vegetation types in Taihu Lake, China. Seasonal and interannual dynamics of aquatic vegetation types were explored and analyzed. The distribution areas of Type I (emergent, floating-leaved and floating vegetation) and Type II (submerged vegetation) were used to model their growing season phenology by double logistic functions. The resulting double logistic models showed, the area of Type I reached its peak in mid-August, and the maximum area for Type II occurred in mid-September. From 1984 to 2013, Type I area increased continuously from 59.75 km2 to 148.00 km2 (R2 = 0.84), whereas the area covered by Type II first increased and then decreased, with a trend conforming to a significant quadratic curve (R2 = 0.83). The eutrophication and stable state of Taihu Lake was assessed using a simple indicator which was expressed as a ratio of Type II area to Type I area. The results showed that the eutrophication in the lake might have been increasing in the area studied since 2000. Additionally, the results showed that air temperature had likely a direct effect on the growth of Type I (R2 = 0.66) and a significant, but delayed, effect on the growth of Type II.  相似文献

The first trees in New York were Middle Devonian (earliest Givetian) cladoxyls (?Duisbergia and Wattieza), with shallow-rooted manoxylic trunks. Cladoxyl trees in New York thus postdate their latest Emsian evolution in Spitzbergen. Progymnosperm trees (?Svalbardia and Callixylon–Archaeopteris) appeared in New York later (mid-Givetian) than progymnosperm trees from Spitzbergen (early Givetian). Associated paleosols are evidence that Wattieza formed intertidal to estuarine mangal and Callixylon formed dry riparian woodland. Also from paleosols comes evidence that Wattieza and Callixylon required about 350 mm more mean annual precipitation than plants of equivalent stature today, that Wattieza tolerated mean annual temperature 7 °C less than current limits of mangal (20 °C), and Callixylon could tolerate temperatures 14 °C less than modern mangal. Devonian mangal and riparian woodland spread into New York from wetter regions elsewhere during transient paleoclimatic spikes of very high CO2 (3923 ± 238 ppmv), and subhumid (mean annual precipitation 730 ± 147 mm) conditions, which were more likely extrinsic atmospheric perturbations rather than consequences of tree evolution. For most of the Middle Devonian CO2 was lower (2263 ± 238 ppmv), and paleoclimate in New York was semiarid (mean annual precipitation 484 ± 147 mm). Such transient perturbations and immigration events may explain the 40 million year gap between the late Emsian (400 Ma) evolution of trees and Famennian (360 Ma) CO2 drawdown and expansion of ice caps.  相似文献

Rebeccamycin is a promising antibiotic synthesized by the filamentous bacterium Lechevalieria aerocolonigenes. To date, the main investigations were focused on the biological effect or the structure elucidation of rebeccamycin. The aim of this study was to develop an efficient cultivation process based on shake flask experiments. The relationship between morphology and productivity and the positive effects of micro- and macroparticle enhanced cultivation on rebeccamycin production with this strain in the pellet-like morphology was investigated. The addition of talc microparticles increased the rebeccamycin concentration to 120 mg L−1 and 3-fold compared to the control without microparticles. An up to 9-fold increase in rebeccamycin concentration was achieved using surface modified talc particles. Through the addition of glass beads as macroparticles, the highest rebeccamycin concentration of approximately 120 mg L−1 was achieved by the induction of mechanical stress. Cultivation with glass beads enhanced the rebeccamycin concentration 22-fold compared to the control without macroparticles. By further increasing the diameter of the glass beads and increasing mechanical stress, the morphology was driven toward mycelial growth and the productivity was decreased. An adjusted mechanical stress, through the addition of macro-shaped glass bead particles, led to the desired increase in productivity.  相似文献

A bacterial lipase from Arthrobacter sp. (ABL: IIIM Jammu, India strain, MTCC No. 5125) has been immobilized on non-magnetic (Type A) and magnetic (Type B) supports derived from copolymerization of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and tetraethylorthosilicate. Immobilized ABL presented 21–34 mg/g protein binding providing 30–75 units/g activity in Type A non-magnetic composites and 24–45 mg/g protein binding providing 35–90 units/g activity with Type B supports containing magnetic particles. Immobilized ABL preparations have shown enhanced stability at pH 5–9 and temperature up to 70 °C whereas free ABL is unstable under these conditions. Improved hydrolytic conversion as well as enantioselectivity were observed with acyl fluoxetine intermediate (ethyl 3-hydroxy-3-phenylpropanoate alkyl acylates) and chiral auxiliaryacyl 1-phenyl ethanol using immobilized ABL derivatives (ee ~99%; 3–4-fold increase in E-values) as compared to ABL enzyme/cells (ee 93–98%). Introduction of magnetic particles in these supports has led to easier separation process with high product recovery yields.  相似文献

40Ar/39Ar single-crystal laser-fusion dating, K–Ar dating, and paleomagnetic reversal stratigraphy have been used to determine the chronostratigraphy of the Kabarnet Trachyte, Lukeino Formation, Kaparaina Basalt Formation, and Chemeron Formation at the sites of Kapcheberek (BPRP#77) and Tabarin (BPRP#77) in the Tugen Hills, Kenya. The succession ranges in age from 6·56–3·8 Ma. The upper Lukeino Formation at Kapcherberek, including the fauna from the site BPRP#76, was deposited during chron C3r and can be constrained to the interval 5·88–5·72 Ma. The Chemeron Formation at Tabarin includes at the base an ignimbrite and associated basal air-fall tuff with a combined age of 5·31±0·03 Ma. Sedimentary and volcaniclastic rocks of the Chemeron Formation which unconformably overlie the ignimbrite record chrons C3n.2n through C2Ar. The combined40Ar/39Ar and paleomagnetic data constrain the age of this sequence to 4·63–3·837 Ma. The age of the Tabarin mandible fragment (KNM-TH 13150) and associated fauna at site BPRP#77 in the Chemeron Formation is 4·48–4·41 Ma, marginally older than similar early hominids from Aramis, Ethiopia. Basin subsidence appears to be defining an overall accumulation rate of about 17 cm/ka over the 2·7 Ma represented at Tabarin and Kapcheberek, despite episodes of rapid accumulation and hiatuses.  相似文献

The adsorption characteristics of various filter media and treatment efficiency of small pilot-scale constructed wetlands (CWs) were investigated in order to design optimum CWs for treating greenhouse wastewater. Calcite was the best filter medium for the adsorption of ammonium nitrogen and phosphorus under various temperature and pH conditions. However, removal efficiency of calcite for total nitrogen (T-N) removal was low due primarily to high nitrate levels. Thus, several hybrid CWs (containing calcite as filter media) consisting of combinations of vertical flow (VF) and horizontal flow (HF) beds were evaluated for improving efficiency for T-N removal. Both 2- and 3-stage combinations of the VF and HF beds were tested. The optimum hybrid CWs was demonstrated to be a 3-stage combination of horizontal flow (HF)–vertical flow (VF)–horizontal flow (HF), which provided suitable conditions for both nitrification and denitrification, which improved removal of T-N in wastewater containing nitrate. In the HF–VF–HF 3-stage hybrid CWs, the reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD), T-N, and total phosphorus (T-P) in the effluent were 95.1, 68.4 and 94.3%, respectively. The removal of COD, T-N and T-P in 3-stage HF–VF–HF CWs was rapid in order of VF (second stage)  HF (first stage)  HF (third stage), VF (second stage)  HF (third stage) > HF (first stage) and VF (second stage)  HF (first stage)  HF (third stage), respectively.  相似文献

The Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous Tuchengzi Formation is widespread in North China. Its clastic deposits indicate a tropical, dry, and hot paleoclimate, different from the subtropical, humid, and seasonal climate in the early Middle Jurassic. The sudden environmental change from the Middle to Late Jurassic resulted in a rapid disappearance of the Yanliao/Daohugou Biota, with more than 90% of the species of the Yanliao/Daohugou Biota dying out and replaced by the Early Cretaceous Jehol Biota. Eolian sandstones with large-scale cross-bedding occur within the uppermost part of the Tuchengzi Formation in North China. The sandstones are stratigraphically higher than the tuff previously dated as 139 Ma. We obtained two SHRIMP zircon U/Pb ages from the tuff beds. One sample was collected from the tuff in the basal Tuchengzi Formation in northern Hebei and the other from the tuff intercalated in the eolian cross-bedded sandstones in the uppermost Tuchengzi Formation in western Liaoning. Our results show that 154 Ma is the oldest age constraint for the Tuchengzi Formation and 137 Ma is the youngest age estimate of the formation, providing an age constraint for the transition from the Yanliao Biota to the Jehol Biota.  相似文献

Prior investigations suggest that alluvial lowlands of Pangea in the southwestern U.S.A. during the middle to late Triassic experienced an arid to semiarid climate with significant seasonality. Our investigation finds evidence for a global pluvial episode from paleosols in the middle to late Triassic section of eastern Utah. Multi-proxy paleosol evidence is used to quantify rainfall amounts, ambient temperatures and atmospheric CO2 concentrations and infer associated plant formations related to ecosystem persistence. Rainfall estimates are derived from geochemical molecular weathering ratios; temperature and atmospheric CO2 levels from stable oxygen and carbon isotopes of pedogenic carbonate, respectively; and ecosystem reconstruction by a combination of climate indexes and paleosol characteristics. Eight pedotypes were identified and include poorly drained aquic Entisols (Fisher), well-drained non-aquic Entisols (Salt Valley), calcic Aridisols (Castle Valley), calcic Inceptisols (Moab), cambic (Ute) and calcic (La Sal) Vertisols, dystric Inceptisols (Kokopeli), and argillic Alfisols (Slickrock). The middle Triassic Moenkopi Formation (Anisian) was dominated by Castle Valley paleosols with mean annual rainfall between 300 and 400 mm and mean annual temperature between 13 and 23 °C (mesic to hyperthermic). Based on these climate indexes and root traces, the associated plant formation was most likely desert shrub or dry woodland. The lower Chinle Formation (Carnian) contains a succession of Ute and La Sal paleosols that changed up-section to Kokopeli, Fisher and Slickrock paleosols. In accordance with geochemical and isotopic signatures from these pedotypes, rainfall amounts initially increased to between 700 and 900 mm, and then to between 1300 and 1400 mm. Temperatures estimated from the La Sal paleosol are approximately 18 °C (thermic) at this time. The lower Chinle marks a transition from dry woodland to open forest that appears to correlate with the formation of the Petrified Forest Member in Arizona. The upper Chinle Formation (Carnian-Norian) reveals a return to semiarid to subhumid conditions and the formation of Castle Valley, Moab and Salt Valley paleosols, all of which appear to have supported desert shrub or dry woodlands. Rainfall amounts decreased to between 400 and 600 mm with temperatures eventually increasing to 29 °C (hyperthermic). Using the paleosol isotopic barometer, atmospheric CO2 estimates generally correlate with other proxy for the Triassic. The well-developed Alfisols and noncalcareous Inceptisols identified during the Carnian of the lower Chinle correlate with a previously identified global pluvial episode based on sedimentological and marine isotopic evidence, possibly in response to rifting of Pangea. It should not be assumed that the middle to late Triassic in continental alluvial lowlands supported a uniform, semiarid to arid climate, with strong seasonality.  相似文献

Type I collagen from outer skin of Sepia pharaonis was extracted and partially characterized. Yield of Acid Soluble Collagen (ASC) and Pepsin Soluble Collagen (PSC) were calculated as 1.66% and 3.93% and the total protein content of ASC and PSC were found as 18.4% and 48.6%. FT-IR spectrum of ASC and PSC recorded 12 and 14 peaks, respectively. 1H NMR spectrum of ASC showed singlets at 1.23 ppm, 3.1 ppm, 3.55 ppm and 3.7 ppm and PSC at 1.23 ppm and 2.08 ppm. The molecular weight for ASC was calculated as 102 kDa and for PSC as 110, 108 and 102 kDa through SDS-PAGE. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) results supported that PSC withstand high thermal stability (82.85 °C) than ASC (73.13 °C). Higher denaturation temperature with high molecular weight well support the property of type I collagen from skin of S. pharaonis and it could be used as another potent source for the extraction of collagen.  相似文献

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated often with underlying zinc deficiency and nutritional supplements such as zinc may be of therapeutic benefit in the disease. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 12-week trial in postmenopausal women (n = 48) with Type 2 DM we investigated the effects of supplementation with zinc (40 mg/d) and flaxseed oil (FSO; 2 g/d) on the gene expression of zinc transporters (ZnT1, ZnT5, ZnT6, ZnT7, ZnT8, Zip1, Zip3, Zip7, and Zip10) and metallothionein (MT-1A, and MT-2A), and markers of glycemic control (glucose, insulin, glycosylated hemoglobin [HbA1c]). The homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated. No significant effects of zinc or FSO supplementation were observed on glycemic marker concentrations, HOMA-IR or fold change over 12 weeks in zinc transporter and metallothionein gene expression. In multivariate analysis, the change over 12 weeks in serum glucose concentrations (P = 0.001) and HOMA-IR (P = 0.001) predicted the fold change in Zip10. In secondary analysis, marginal statistical significance was observed with the change in both serum glucose concentrations (P = 0.003) and HOMA-IR (P = 0.007) being predictive of the fold change in ZnT6. ZnT8 mRNA expression was variable; HbA1c levels were higher (P = 0.006) in participants who exhibited ZnT8 expression compared to those who did not. The significant predictive relationships between Zip10, ZnT6, serum glucose and HOMA-IR are preliminary, as is the relationship between HbA1c and ZnT8; nevertheless the observations support an association between Type 2 DM and zinc homeostasis that requires further exploration.  相似文献

Assemblages of anaerobic sulphidogenic microorganisms were isolated from soil polluted by oil-derived products and grown using the microcosms method. The cultures were grown in minimal and Postgate media with phosphogypsum (PG) as the sole electron acceptor and with lactate, casein or lactose as the sole carbon source. The most effective was the assemblage in Postgate medium with lactose as the sole carbon source. A reduction of 980 mg COD l?1 (reduction of about 40%) and 790 mg SO42? l?1 (reduction of 53% of phosphogypsum introduced to the medium) was noted in the culture. The lowest activity was observed for minimal medium with lactose as sole carbon source (reduction of 4.4% COD and 40% PG). The selected assemblage became an inoculum for a culture in Postgate, minimal and/or distilled water medium with PG (6 g l?1) and cheese whey (2.5 and 4.5 g l?1).A percentage reduction of COD and SO42? of PG was observed in all cultures. After growth, the residues were weighed and in all cases a distinct mass reduction of PG was observed in comparison to the 6 g l?1 introduced to the medium. Diffractometric studies of the residues confirmed the presence of calcite and apatite. The presence of these mineral phases in the residues allows their application as agricultural fertilisers.  相似文献

Lip prints are very useful in forensic investigations. The objective of this study is to determine predominant lip print pattern found among a central Indian population, to evaluate whether any sex difference exists and to study the permanence of the pattern over a 6 month duration. This study included 200 healthy adult subjects comprising of 100 males and 100 females in the age group of 18–25 years. A convenient and easier method of data collection i.e., digital photography was used instead of the traditional lipstick methods. Lip prints were then divided into four quadrants and recognized as per Suzuki and Tsuchihashi’s classification.Type I (30.63%) was found to be most predominant overall in the Marathi population. Type I (29.75%) and Type III (35.75%) were found most prevalent in males and females respectively. Applying the Chi-Square test, statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) were observed between male and female lip print patterns in each of the quadrants individually and all quadrants taken together. The lip print patterns remained stable over a period of six-months. Being stable and with significant sex differences, lip prints can be effectively used as an important tool in forensic investigations for individualization as well as identification of sex of the donor, thus, narrowing down the scope of investigation to almost half.  相似文献

In cell biology (and in many biophysical) studies there is a natural tendency to consider ceramide as a highly condensed, solid-type lipid conferring rigidity and close packing to biomembranes. In the present work we advanced the understanding of the phase behavior of palmitoyl-ceramide restricted to a planar interface using Langmuir monolayers under strictly controlled and known surface packing conditions. Surface pressure–molecular area isotherms were complemented with molecular area–temperature isobars and with observations of the surface topography by Brewster Angle Microscopy. The results described herein indicate that palmitoyl-ceramide can exhibit expanded, as well as condensed phase states. Formation of three phases was found, depending on the surface pressure and temperature: a solid (1.80 nm thick), a liquid-condensed (1.73 nm thick, likely tilted) and a liquid-expanded (1.54 nm thick) phase over the temperature range 5–62 °C. A large hysteretic behavior is observed for the S phase monolayer that may indicate high resistance to domain boundary deformation. A second (or higher) order S  LC phase transition is observed at about room temperature while a first order LC  LE transition occurs in a range of temperature encompassing the physiological one (observed above 30 °C at low surface pressure). This phase behavior broadens the view of ceramide as a type of lipid not-always-rigid but able to exhibit polymorphic properties.  相似文献

Developing a strain with high docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) yield and stable fermenting-performance is an imperative way to improve DHA production using Aurantiochytrium sp., a microorganism with two fatty acid synthesis pathways: polyketide synthase (PKS) pathway and Type I fatty acid synthase (FAS) pathway. This study investigated the growth and metabolism response of Aurantiochytrium sp. CGMCC 6208 to two inhibitors of enoyl-ACP reductase of Type II FAS pathway (isoniazid and triclosan), and proposed a method of screening high DHA yield Aurantiochytrium sp. strains with heavy ion mutagenesis and pre-selection by synergistic usage of cold stress (4 °C) and FAS inhibitors (triclosan and isoniazid). Results showed that (1) isoniazid and triclosan have positive effects on improving DHA level of cells; (2) mutants from irradiation dosage of 120 Gy yielded more DHA compared with cells from 40 Gy, 80 Gy treatment and wild type; (3) DHA contents of mutants pre-selected by inhibitors of enoyl-ACP reductase of Type II FAS pathway (isoniazid and triclosan)at 4 °C, were significantly higher than that of wild type; (4) compared to the wild type, the DHA productivity and yield of a mutant (T-99) obtained from Aurantiochytrium sp. CGMCC 6208 by the proposed method increased by 50% from 0.18 to 0.27 g/Lh and 30% from 21 to 27 g/L, respectively. In conclusion, this study developed a feasible method to screen Aurantiochytrium sp. with high DHA yield by a combination of heavy-ion mutagenesis and mutant-preselection by FAS inhibitors and cold stress.  相似文献

Anthropogenic impact on CO2 levels was studied in the Bear Chamber of the Výpustek Cave, a show cave in the Moravian Karst (Czech Republic), during a period of active ventilation and enhanced attendance. The study showed that the natural CO2 levels were controlled by (i) the natural CO2 influxes from soils/epikarst (up to ∼5.64 × 10−2 mol s−1); and, (ii) the advective CO2 fluxes out of cave atmosphere (up to 4.66 × 10−2 mol s−1). During visitor presence, the anthropogenic CO2 flux into the chamber reached up to ∼0.13 mol s−1 and exceeded all other CO2 fluxes. The reachable anthropogenic steady states at sufficient duration of stay (up to 2.65 × 10−1 mol m−3) could exceed the natural CO2 levels by factor of more than nine based on the number of visitors. Recession analysis of anthropogenic pulses showed that intervals between individual visitor groups would have to be up to ∼6 h long if the cave environment has to return to natural conditions. As such pauses between individual tours are hardly realizable, a risk analysis was conducted to find the consequences of breaking natural conditions. It showed that the condition under which dripwater becomes aggressive to calcite (i.e., the point when PCO2 in cave atmosphere exceeds the hypothetical CO2 concentrations in epikarst that has participated on the water formation, PCO2(H) = 10−1.56) is potentially reachable under extreme conditions only (enormous visitor stay period and visitor number). In case of condensed water, however, any increase in CO2 concentration will cause an increase of water aggressiveness to calcite. Therefore, in the periods and sites of enhanced condensation, it is important to strive for preservation of natural conditions.  相似文献

Formulations of Pseudomonas strains with long-term shelf life are needed for commercial use in biological disease control and growth promotion in crops. In the present work Pseudomonas chlororaphis (Pc) 63-28 formulated with coconut fiber [moisture content (MC) of 80%], talc (MC 8%) or peat (MC 40%), with or without the addition of carboxymethylcellulose or xanthan gum, and formulations of Pc 63-28 and P. chlororaphis TX-1 in coconut fiber with water contents (v:v) of 75%, 45%, and 25%, were evaluated in terms of shelf life and cell viability. The shelf life of Pc 63-28 was longer when formulated in coconut fibre with a MC was 80% than in the other formulations and longer at 3 ± 1 °C compared to 22 ± 1 °C. Densities of viable Pc 63-28 cells in coconut fiber stored at 3 ± 1 °C did not decline significantly during 224 days when the MC was 80% and within 120 days at 75% MC. Densities of Pc TX-1 in coconut fiber of 75% MC did not decline within 60 days at 3 ± 1 °C. P. chlororaphis 63-28 survived longer in deionized water and buffer than in canola oil. Cells of Pc 63-28 cells formulated in coconut fibre of 80% MC after storage for 140 days at 3 ± 1 °C in coconut fiber improved hydroponic growth of hydroponic lettuce and better than cells freshly recovered from culture. We conclude that coconut fiber is a carrier of superior performance in maintaining shelf life of Pseudomonas strains. The observed shelf life would be sufficient for practical use of Pseudomonas strains as tools for disease control and growth promotion in crops.  相似文献

We explored the relationships between surface-soil (1–20 cm) organic carbon isotopic signatures and associated climatic factors in central-east Asia in an attempt to develop transfer functions that can be used to retrieve the paleoclimatic information stored in the thick eolian–paleosol sequences within the area. Our analysis shows that the negative correlation between the surface-soil organic δ13C values and the mean annual precipitation is robust (R2 = 0.453; n = 196; p < 0.05) and the negative correlation with the growing-season (April–September) precipitation is more significant (R2 = 0.4966; n = 196; p < 0.05). Our study further shows that the positive correlation between the surface-soil organic δ13C values and mean growing-season aridity is most significant (R2 = 0.5805; n = 196; p < 0.05). We have smoothed both the organic δ13C values and the mean growing-season aridity values using a 3-point moving-window average-filter method in an attempt to remove some of random errors and found that the positive correlation between the two is further increased (R2 =  0.7784; n =  192; p < 0.05). These robust linear relationships demonstrate their value in reconstructing paleoclimate changes in the study area. The documented climatic dependency of the surface-soil carbon isotopic composition in the study area might have resulted both from the humidity-related isotopic enrichment processes of the dominant C3 plants (stomatal conductance and photosynthetic discrimination) and from the aridity-related abundance of C4 plants (mainly Chenopodiaceae species) along the S–N bioclimatic gradient.  相似文献
