Two new species of the feather mite genus Proctophyllodes Robin, 1868 (Analgoidea: Proctophyllodidae) are described from two passerine birds (Passeriformes) in Europe: Proctophyllodes markovetsi n. sp. from the tawny pipit Anthus campestris (L.) (Motacillidae) and P. loxiae n. sp. from the red crossbill Loxia curvirostra (L.) (Fringillidae). Males of P. markovetsi are most clearly distinguished from the closely related P. tchagrae Atyeo & Braasch, 1966 by having greater terminal lamellae (30–40 × 20–25 µm), the tips of genital arch curved medially, and the corolla of the anal sucker with 14–15 denticles; females of this species are characterised by the terminal appendages distinctly longer than the lobar region width. Males of P. loxiae differ from the closest species, P. fuchsi Mironov, 1997, by having smaller terminal lamellae (45–50 × 22–28 μm), the genital organ extending beyond the posterior margin of lamellae by half their length; females can be distinguished by having the terminal cleft noticeably wider than long (28–30 × 35–40 μm). 相似文献

A representative of the family Apionacaridae is recorded from the passerine birds Passeriformes for the first time. Fringillosphaera bochkovi gen. n., sp. n. is described from the chaffinch Fringilla coelebs (Fringillidae). The new genus obtains main diagnostic characters as follows. Vertical setae vi absent. Prodorsal shield free from scapular sheilds and epimerites Ia. Humeral sheilds present. Epimerites I convergent, connected by sclerotized plate. Lateral setae f2 and pseudanal setae ps3 absent. Coxal fields I-IV sclerotized. In male: legs IV present, genital apparatus at level of trochanters IV, genital arch with divergent branches. Epiandrium absent. Coxal setae 3a absent. Morphological peculiarities, host associations and phylogenetic relationships of the family Apionacaridae are briefly discussed. It is suggested that this family represents and ancient and relic phylogenetic branch, which had split rather early from the common ancestor of the superfamily Analgoidea in the period of formation of the Neognathae birds. 相似文献

With the increased availability of multilocus sequence data, the lack of concordance of gene trees estimated for independent loci has focused attention on both the biological processes producing the discord and the methodologies used to estimate phylogenetic relationships. What has emerged is a suite of new analytical tools for phylogenetic inference--species tree approaches. In contrast to traditional phylogenetic methods that are stymied by the idiosyncrasies of gene trees, approaches for estimating species trees explicitly take into account the cause of discord among loci and, in the process, provides a direct estimate of phylogenetic history (i.e. the history of species divergence, not divergence of specific loci). We illustrate the utility of species tree estimates with an analysis of a diverse group of feather mites, the pinnatus species group (genus Proctophyllodes). Discord among four sequenced nuclear loci is consistent with theoretical expectations, given the short time separating speciation events (as evident by short internodes relative to terminal branch lengths in the trees). Nevertheless, many of the relationships are well resolved in a Bayesian estimate of the species tree; the analysis also highlights ambiguous aspects of the phylogeny that require additional loci. The broad utility of species tree approaches is discussed, and specifically, their application to groups with high speciation rates--a history of diversification with particular prevalence in host/parasite systems where species interactions can drive rapid diversification. 相似文献

Three new species of the feather mite subfamily Pterodectinae Park & Atyeo, 1971 are described from passerines of the family Muscicapidae Fleming and Leiothrichidae Swainson in India (Meghalaya, East Jaintia Hills District): Proterothrix daberti n. sp. from the White-tailed Robin Cinclidium leucurum (Hodgson), P. khahnarensis n. sp. from the Blue Whistling-Thrush Myophonus caeruleus (Scopoli) (Passeriformes: Muscicapidae) and P. indica n. sp. from the Nepal Fulvetta Alcippe nipalensis (Hodgson) (Passeriformes: Leiothrichidae). P. daberti and P. khahnarensis belong to the megacaula species group and differ from one another (and from the third species belonging to the group) in having a distinct ornamentation of dorsal shields in both sexes: with small ovate and circular lacunae in P. daberti and with big ovate lacunae in P. khahnarensis. Proterothrix indica belongs to the paradoxornis species complex (wolffi species group) and differs from the other four species of the complex in having the lateral margins of prodorsal shield with incisions extending to bases of setae se in both sexes. Stylostomes of the trombiculid mite larvae Neotrombicula pomeranzevi (Schluger), Hirsutiella zachvatkini (Schluger), Miyatrombicula esoensis (Sasa and Ogata) and Euschoengastia rotundata (Schluger) (Acariformes: Trombiculidae), formed in the host skin during feeding of the parasites on their natural hosts (voles)
were studied histologically and histochemically. A stylostome is a variously shaped tube formed of solidified mite saliva
that extends from the mouthparts of the parasite through the epidermis into the dermis of the host, and allows the mite to
obtain its liquid food. The first step of stylostome formation is deposition of an eosinophilic cone, to which the larva’s
chelicerae are glued. Organization of the stylostome depends on the mite species, and its walls may show weakly expressed
longitudinal or transverse stratification. Histochemically, the stylostome is composed of complex glycoprotein with varying
tinctorial properties through the width or the length of the stylostome’s walls. Beneath the distal end of the stylostome,
irrespectively of its localization either in the epidermis or in the dermis of the host, a feeding cavity is formed as a result
of the action of the hydrolytic components of the mite’s saliva forced through the stylostome into the wound. An inflammatory
dermal reaction of moderate intensity is evolved during larval feeding and stylostome formation. It is manifested by the infiltration
of the foci with neutrophiles, lymphocytes and macrophages and by dilation of capillaries of the terminal vessel bed and filling
them by erythrocytes and other blood elements. Around the stylostome, necrosis of the epidermal cells occurs, leucocytes come
to the damaged area and fuse with the necrotic epidermal cells, leading to the formation of the large scabs on the surface
of the host’s skin. In the case of E. rotundata, single capsules having a terminal opening and containing feeding larva are formed on the abdomen of the hosts. The walls
of the capsules are composed of the mite’s saliva flowing upon the surface of the host’s skin. At the bottom of the capsule,

The eyes or ocelli of trombidioid mite larvae of Euschoengastia rotundata, Hirszutiella zachvatkini and Camerotrombidium pexatum, and larvae and adults of Platytrombidium fasciatum were studied by means of transmission electron microscopy. These species together with larvae of Odontacarus efferus, Ericotrombidium hasgelum, Walchia chinensis and adult E. rotundata and H. zachvatkini were also studied under scanning electron microscope. The eyes of larvae are not inverted and characterized by an epicuticular lamellar lens. The group of phoreceptor cells with rhabdomeres arranged typically of Chelicerata is underlaid by a pigment cup. The eyes of adult mites are inverted, perikarions of photoreceptor cells are situated between the lens and rhabdomeres; tapetum occupies the space between the pigment cup and rhabdomeres. Sensitivity of eyes to light is similar to that of primary eyes of spiders dwelling on soil surface. 相似文献

Abstract Seven new feather mite species of the family Pterolichidae are described from various Australian parrots: Apexolichus lathami sp. n. from the swift parrot, Lathamus discolor (Shaw); Titanolichus platycerci sp. n. and Rhytidelasma punctata sp. n. from the pale-headed rosella, Platycercus adscitus (Latham); R. striata sp. n. from the Australian king-parrot, Alisterus scapularis (Lichtenstein); Lorilichus stenolobus sp. n. and Lorilichus curvilobus sp. n. from the rainbow lorikeet, Trichoglossus haematodus (Linnaeus); Psittophagus galahi sp. n. from the galah, Eolophus roseicapillus (Vieillot). We give a brief overview of taxonomic studies of pterolichid mites living on Psittaciformes, and discuss the main diagnostic characters of different generic groups of these mites. 相似文献

Astigmatans are a large group of mites living in nearly every environment and exhibiting very diverse reproductive strategies. In spite of an uniform anatomical organization of their reproductive systems, gametogenesis in each sex is highly variable, leading to gamete formation showing many peculiar features and emphasizing the distinct position of Astigmata. This review summarizes the contemporary knowledge on the structure of ovaries and testes in astigmatic mites, the peculiarities of oogenesis and spermatogenesis, as well as provides new data on several species not studied previously. The endeostigmatid mitesAlicorhagia fragilis andAlycus spp. are nematophages. Nematodes are cut up by the chelicerae or ingested whole, but are difficult to recognize as gut contents.Alycus roseus is a strict predator and does not consume microphytes.Alicorhagia fragilis is an omnivore. When nematodes are not available, adult females consume more fungi, but lay significantly fewer eggs, and cultures eventually decline to extinction.Observations of gut contents from 18 genera in ten families indicate that species in the families Terpnacaridae, Grandjeanicidae, Lordalycidae, Micropsammidae, and Oehserchestidae are primarily particulate-feeding fungivores. The families Namorchestidae and Nematalychidae are apparently fluid feeders. Species of Alicorhagiidae are best considered omnivores. In the family Bimichaelidae (=Pachygnathidae)_species with chelate-dentate chelicerae (Alycus, Petralycus, somePachygnathus) are predators of soft-bodied microinvertebrates. During recovery succession, structural and functional changes in oribatid mite communities occur: the number of species increases, the structure becomes more complex, the proportion of surface-living and nonspecialized forms increases, and the role of parthenogenetic species decreases. The direction of succession is to form a community characteristic of the zonal type of vegetation. Four stages are selected. The colonization-accumulation stage involves the initial accumulation of organic matter due to activity of microorganisms. Oribatids are not numerous at this stage. The unstructured stage is characterized by unstable monodominant communities of parthenogenetic oribatids with short life cycles. The next stage is structuring, when the proportion of parthenogenetic forms decreases, and that of nonspecialized forms increases. Communities are monodominant. The final stage is stabilization. The development of male and female gonads in arrhenotokous and thelytokous species of Histiostoma was studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). All instars were examined: larvae, protonymphs, facultative heteromorphic deutonymphs (=hypopi), tritonymphs, and adults. In testis primordium, spermatogonia surrounding a testicular central cell (TCC) with a gradually enlarging, branched nucleus are present already at the larval stage. Spermatogonia and the TCC are connected via narrow, tubular intercellular bridges revealing that the TCC is a germline cell. Spermatocytes appear at the protonymphal stage. At the heteromorphic deutonymph stage, the testis primordium is similar to that of the protonymph, but in the tritonymph it is much larger and composed as in the adult: spermatids as well as sperm cells are present. The latter are congregated ventrally in the testis at the entrance of the deferent duct.In the larval ovary, an eccentrically located ovarian nutritive cell (ONC) is surrounded by oogonia which are connected with the ONC via tubular intercellular bridges. In later stages, the ovary grows and oocytes appear in the protonymph. Meiotic synaptonemal complexes in oocytes occur from the tritonymph stage. At about the time of the final molting, tubular intercellular bridges transform into peculiar diaphragm-crossed bridges known only in Histiostoma mites. In the adult female, growing oocytes at the end of previtellogenesis lose intercellular bridges and move ventro-laterally to the ovarian periphery towards the oviduct entrance. Vitellogenesis occurs in oviducts.Germinal cells in both the testis and ovary are embedded in a few somatic stroma cells which may be well discernible already in the larval ovary; in the testis, somatic stroma cells are evident not earlier than the end of the tritonymphal stage. The ovary has a thin wall of flat somatic cells, whereas the testis is covered by a basal lamina only.The obtained results suggest that gonads in Histiostoma and other Astigmata originate from two primordial cells only. 相似文献

An analysis of the extra-oral digestion in Parasitengona being a highly specialized group of Acariform mites is carried out from the viewpoint of functional morphology and ecology. The significance of the extra-oral digestion in the life strategy of these mites and their larval parasitism is also evaluated. The morphological pre-adaptations of this mode of feeding as well as its probable evolutionary consequences are demonstrated by an example of trombiculid mites (Trombiculidae). It is shown, in particular, that parasitism in general may be considered as a particular life scenario implying that the feeding preferences of the organism are evolutionary formed in a close association with other organisms, which provide a parasite with a feeding substrate mainly already prepared for utilization. Based on this assumption, all Parasitengona, including both larval and post-larval instars, irrespectively of the size of their potential victim, preferably should not be considered as parasites, but as micro-predators. 相似文献
