Microplankton community structures and abundance was assessed in lakes at the Toolik Lake LTER site in northern Alaska during the summers of 1989 and 1990. The microplankton community included oligotrich ciliates, but rotifers and zooplankton nauplii comprised greater than 90% of total estimated heterotrophic microplankton biomass. Dominant rotifer taxa included Keratella cochlearis, Kellicottia longispina, Polyarthra vulgaris, Conochilus unicornis and a Synchaeta sp. Microplankton biomass was lowest in highly oligotrophic Toolik Lake (< 5 μgCl−1 at the surface) and highest (up to 55 μCl−1) in the most eutrophic lakes, experimentally fertilized lakes, and fertilized limnocorrals, consistent with bottom-up regulation of microplankton abundance.  相似文献

The influence of two seston fractions, < 20 μm (nanoplankton) and ≥ 20 μm (microplankton), on growth and reproduction of cladoceran species with different sizes, from Lake Monte Alegre, was evaluated through individual growth and life table experiments. Size, shape and other features of the algae in the fractions were described. The procedure of filtering lake water through a 20 μm net for seston fractionation caused mutual contamination. The smallest cladoceran species, Ceriodaphnia cornuta Sars and Moina micrura Kurz, produced larger clutch sizes and exhibited higher intrinsic rates of population growth (r) in the nanoplankton, despite contamination of their food by inedible algae. The largest species, Simocephalus mixtus Sars, produced larger clutch sizes in the microplankton. There were no differences in juvenile biomass growth between treatments for M. micrura and Daphnia gessneri Herbst, but lower value of the exponential growth rate (g) in the microplankton was significant for M. micrura. Fecundity (eggs/total female) of M. micrura was significantly lower in the microplankton, while D. gessneri did not reproduce in this fraction, at the end of growth experiments. Spines, colonies, cenobium, filaments, hard cell wall, and gelatinous sheaths, represented constraints to cladoceran reproductive performance, besides algae size. Microplankton contamination by nanoplanktonic algae, in the experiments, probably minimized the negative effect of inedible algae. Nanoplankton was more suitable for the smallest species and microplankton for the largest one.  相似文献

Microplankton in an oligotrophic arctic lake were assessed by direct counts for one summer prior to nutrient additions and three summers during which inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus were added to the lake at approximately ten times ambient loading rates. Protozoa increased significantly in both number and biomass following fertilization, and community structure changed from dominance by oligotrichs prior to fertilization to dominance by the bacterivorous peritrich Epistylis rotans in the second and third years of fertilization. Rotifer abundance and biomass was not significantly different among summers, although one species, Conochilus natans that had not been seen previously, was present during the second and third year of fertilization. By the third year of fertilization both protozoan and rotifer biomass had declined from peak levels, while crustacean zooplankton nauplius abundance had increased suggesting the emergence of top-down regulatory controls as the lake became eutrophic.  相似文献

The effect of ambient ultraviolet radiation on microplankton communities in an Arctic fjord was measured in mesocosms incubated for 9 days at 2 or 5 meters depth. The mesocosms were either shielded from UV-B radiation by Mylar foil or received full radiation. The parameters measured were: microscopic counts of phytoplankton and micro-zooplankton, photosynthetic capacity, the wavelength-dependent inhibition of photosynthesis, and bacterial biomass and production. The results showed that UV-B radiation increased the photosynthetic capacity of the community but that the overall biomass of the plankton community was reduced. This indicates that UV-B exposure results in a net impairment of the plankton community in that it reduces the potential to allocate the photosynthetic product into new biomass or that the grazing pressure is higher in the UV-B exposed mesocosms. There were no differences in the wavelength dependence between communities exposed to UV-B versus not, but we observed a significantly lower dependence in communities from 2 m depth compared to those from 5 m, indicating that an acclimation of the photosynthetic apparatus to high radiation also reduces the wavelength dependence. A general effect was an increase in nanoflagellate and choanoflagellate biomass and a decreased in the biomass of ciliates and bacteria. The increase nanoflagellates was significantly larger in mesocosms shielded from UV-B, while choanoflagellates increased more in UV-B exposed mesocosms.  相似文献

Spatial and short-term changes in the composition and density of the macrobenthic fauna were studied in Lake Balaton, a large shallow lake in Central Europe (Hungary). Spatial differences were examined along five transects and short-term changes at two stations of different trophic state. The macrobenthos consisted almost exclusively of Tubificidae and Chironomidae of the species Chironomus gr. plumosus, Procladius choreus, Tanypus punctipennis, Microchironomus tener and Cladotanytarsus sp. The Oligochaeta biomass showed a significant short-term decrease from 1995 to 1998, and their average biomass proved to be 0.86 and 0.79 g WFW (wet formalin weight) m-2 in 1996 and 1997, respectively. Chironomidae showed significant spatial and short-term differences following variations in primary production. Higher primary production resulted in higher biomass (up to 153.4 g WFW m-2 and 9785 ind. m-2 in 1995) of Chironomus-Procladius community, while lower primary production resulted in a very low biomass and abundance of the predatory Procladius-Tanypus-Microchironomus community (average: 3.16 g WFW m-2 and 1311 ind. m-2 in 1997). As compared to other lakes of similar climatic conditions, the total production of oligohaetes and chironomids proved to be very low in 1996 and 1997 (49.2 and 54.1 KJ m-2 yr-1, respectively). The 90% of the average chironomid production of Lake Balaton in 1996 and 1997 belonged to Ch. gr. plumosus (5.63 and 5.13 g m-2 yr-1), P. choreus (4.3 and 3.47 g m-2 yr-1) and T. punctipennis (0.27 and 2.21 g m-2 yr-1). In a chain of lakes along which nutrient availability varies in a gradient, we performed factorial nutrient enrichment experiments to determine if nitrogen limitation was the principal factor controlling the differences in phytoplankton biomass, photosynthetic productivity, diversity, and species composition among two of the lakes in the chain. In the least productive lake, East Graham Lake, P and C enrichments (in the absence of N enrichment) had no effect on biomass and diversity, whereas within two weeks the N enrichments (alone or in any combination with P and/or C) increased the biomass and decreased the diversity of East Graham Lake phytoplankton to levels similar or identical to those in more productive Shoe Lake. Short-term 14C photosynthetic rates in East Graham Lake water also responded only to N in the third week. However, photosynthesis was stimulated by P in the first week, and a few species did increase in numbers with P enrichment, suggesting that some degree of P limitation remains in addition to the strong N limitation in East Graham Lake. A number of species responded individually to the enrichments in a manner similar to that of the overall community, and a strong overlapping of discriminant analysis scores for N-enriched East Graham Lake with those of Shoe Lake was consistent with our prediction that the community structure of N-enriched East Graham Lake water would shift toward that of Shoe Lake. However, many species did not respond consistently with these results, and the nutrients tested were clearly not a major factor in the differences in abundance of those species among the two lakes. The results support the argument that overall biomass production and diversity of the phytoplankton community in a lake can be a relatively simple function of a single most-limiting nutrient. However, many of the species responses also confirm that, while nutrient availability is an important factor in the control of the species composition of the community, other factors are likely to prevent reliable predictions of all species effects on the basis of nutrient availability alone.  相似文献

巢湖及其支流浮游动物群落结构特征及水质评价   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
2013年9月至2014年6月对巢湖及柘皋河、杭埠河、南淝河3条支流的浮游动物进行了调查,共检出浮游动物297种,其中,原生动物124种,轮虫135种,枝角类29种,桡足类9种。南淝河浮游动物物种数最多,为203种,巢湖最少,为130种;巢湖及3条支流均以原生动物和轮虫物种数最多。浮游动物总密度为644 223 ind/L,柘皋河浮游动物密度最高,巢湖浮游动物密度最低,巢湖及3条支流原生动物密度占浮游动物总密度的比例均为最高;四个季节柘皋河浮游动物密度均为最高。浮游动物总生物量为253.14 mg/L,南淝河浮游动物生物量最高,杭埠河和巢湖浮游动物生物量较低;春季和冬季柘皋河浮游动物生物量最高,夏季和秋季南淝河浮游动物生物量最高。相较3条支流,巢湖浮游动物优势种数最少。依据理化指标,巢湖及3条支流为富营养或超富营养水平,营养水平为:南淝河巢湖柘皋河杭埠河。浮游动物群落结构和环境因子的冗余分析(RDA)表明,巢湖及3条支流浮游动物群落结构在四个季节均未能明显区分开,浮游动物群落和环境理化因子的相关性较小。  相似文献

2022年鄱阳湖流域发生了特大干旱事件,对鄱阳湖生态环境产生了严重影响。为揭示极端水文干旱年的鄱阳湖浮游动物群落结构特征及其主要影响因素,于2022年1月(冬季)、4月(春季)、7月(夏季)和10月(秋季)对鄱阳湖浮游动物进行了综合调查。本次调查共鉴定出浮游动物70种(轮虫40种、桡足类17种和枝角类13种),丰度和生物量范围分别为0—152.67个/L和0—1.52 mg/L。浮游动物群落结构具有较大的时空差异:在季节上,物种数夏季最多,丰度和生物量呈现夏季最高、秋季最低的特征,干旱季节的Shannon-Wiener多样性指数和优势种组成明显不同于非干旱季节;在空间上,南部湖区的物种数、丰度、生物量高于北部湖区,多样性指数在中部湖区最高、北部湖区最低。极端水文干旱年的物种数、丰度和生物量均明显低于往年同期,但空间上的差异较小。相关性分析和冗余分析结果表明,浮游动物群落结构在干旱季节和非干旱季节的主要影响因素存在明显差异,其中干旱季节浮游动物群落结构主要受水温、水位、硝态氮、氨氮等的共同影响,非干旱季节受化学需氧量和水位的影响较大。总体上,极端水文干旱使得鄱阳湖浮游动物群落结构稳定性较...  相似文献

Phospholipid analyses were performed on water column particulate and sediment samples from Ace Lake, a meromictic lake in the Vestfold Hills, Antarctica, to estimate the viable microbial biomass and community structure in the lake. In the water column, methanogenic bacterial phospholipids were present below 17 m in depth at concentrations which converted to a biomass of between 1 and 7×108 cells/liter. Methanogenic biomass in the sediment ranged from 17.7×109 cells/g dry weight of sediment at the surface to 0.1×109 cells/g dry weight at 2 m in depth. This relatively high methanogenic biomass implies that current microbial degradation of organic carbon in Ace Lake sediments may occur at extremely slow rates. Total microbial biomass increased from 4.4×108 cells/ liter at 2 m in depth to 19.4×108 cells/liter at 23 m, near the bottom of the water column. Total nonarchaebacterial biomass decreased from 4.2 ×109 cells/g dry weight in the surface sediment (1/4 the biomass of methanogens) to 0.06×108 cells/g dry weight at 2 m in depth in the sediment. Phospholipid fatty acid profiles showed that microeukaryotes were the major microbial group present in the oxylimnion of the lake, while bacteria dominated the lower, anoxic zone. Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) comprised 25% of the microbial population at 23 m in depth in the water column particulates and were present in the surface sediment but to a lesser extent. Biomass estimates and community structure of the Ace Lake eco-system are discussed in relation to previously measured metabolic rates for this and other antarctic and temperate ecosystems. This is the first instance, to our knowledge, in which the viable biomass of methanogenic and SRB have been estimated for an antarctic microbial community.  相似文献

Acidified lakes recover chemically relatively quickly following the reduction or cessation of acidic inputs. Although fish, invertebrate, and phytoplankton communities are reported to begin to return to preacidification states in chemically-improving lakes, the process and extent of biological recovery are not well-documented. The experimental acidification of Precambrian Shield Lake 223 (27.4 ha surface area; 14.4 m maximum depth) in the Experimental Lakes Area in northwestern Ontario, provides an opportunity to compare the zooplankton community prior to acidification with that during progressive acidification and during chemical recovery. Acidified with sulfuric acid from pH 6.47 (ice-free season mean) in 1976 to pH 5.0 (1981 to 1983), Lake 223 has been allowed to recover in steps of pH 5.5 (1984 to 1987), pH 5.8 (1988 to 1990), and pH 6.11 (1991). Total zooplankton biomass showed no trend to increase or decrease during the acidification and recovery, but species composition changed. Compared with species composition at pH 6.13 early in acidification in 1977, the recovering community at pH 6.11 in 1991 had the previously-dominant cladoceran species present in very low numbers and had two newly-appearing cladoceran species. The community had lost one species of calanoid and gained none and lost two species of cyclopoids and gained two. It appeared to lose four species of rotifiers and gain seven. In nearby unmanipulated reference Lake 239 (56.1 ha; 30.4 m), species shifts were recorded but they involved rarer species, not dominants as in Lake 223. Although the zooplankton community in 1991 is in a new state with respect to species composition, static measures of total community biomass, contribution to biomass by the four main taxonomic groups, per cent smilarity to the preacidification community (for crustaceans), and biomass of herbivores do not indicate impairment of community health. Lowered species diversity for both crustaceans and rotifers partially returned to preacidification levels. Nevertheless, the rotifer community in 1991 was more dissimilar to the preacidification community than was the crustacean community, and carnivore biomass appeared to be depressed in Lake 223. The Lake 223 zooplankton community at pH 6.11 in 1991 appears to be in a state of flux.  相似文献

根据2008年1-12月上海市崇明岛明珠湖的综合调查资料,分析了明珠湖轮虫的数量分布、群落特征、种类组成、优势种及物种多样性.结果表明:本次调查共鉴定出轮虫27种,隶属于8科11属,优势种包括刺簇多肢轮虫、暗小异尾轮虫、萼花臂尾轮虫、未定名的旋轮属1种和剪形臂尾轮虫;轮虫生物密度的年均值为(1505.42±1304.63) ind·L-1,生物量年均值为(2.012±2.146) mg·L-1;明珠湖轮虫的Shannon-Wiener多样性指数、丰富度指数和均匀度指数均较低,优势种的优势度指数较大,反映出明珠湖轮虫群落结构不稳定;其富营养种数/贫营养种数(E/O)的比值为1.61±1.46,臂尾轮虫属(B)种数和异尾轮虫属(T)种数的比值(QB/T)为1.23±0.84.影响明珠湖轮虫生态特征分布的主要因子是水温;目前明珠湖水质呈轻度富营养化.  相似文献

Planktonic microbial community structure and classical food web were investigated in the large shallow eutrophic Lake Taihu (2338 km2, mean depth 1.9 m) located in subtropical Southeast China. The water column of the lake was sampled biweekly at two sites located 22 km apart over a period of twelve month. Site 1 is under the regime of heavy eutrophication while Site 2 is governed by wind-driven sediment resuspension. Within-lake comparison indicates that phosphorus enrichment resulted in increased abundance of microbial components. However, the coupling between total phosphorus and abundance of microbial components was different between the two sites. Much stronger coupling was observed at Site 1 than at Site 2. The weak coupling at Site 2 was mainly caused by strong sediment resuspension, which limited growth of phytoplankton and, consequently, growth of bacterioplankton and other microbial components. High percentages of attached bacteria, which were strongly correlated with the biomass of phytoplankton, especially Microcystis spp., were found at Site 1 during summer and early autumn, but no such correlation was observed at Site 2. This potentially leads to differences in carbon flow through microbial food web at different locations. Overall, significant heterogeneity of microbial food web structure between the two sites was observed. Site-specific differences in nutrient enrichment (i.e. nitrogen and phosphorus) and sediment resuspension were identified as driving forces of the observed intra-habitat differences in food web structure.  相似文献

采用物理控制措施治理崇明东滩自然保护区外来入侵植物互花米草(Spartina alterniflora)的蔓延和扩散,对保护该地区的生物多样性具有重要的意义.研究跟踪了崇明东滩治理互花米草示范样地内水位调控措施对大型底栖动物群落的影响.结果显示,潮间带大型底栖动物的密度和生物量具有显著的季节性波动,实施持续水位调控措施样地中大型底栖动物的密度、生物量和丰富度指数均显著低于同时期对照样地.破堤排水后的恢复样地中,随着恢复时间延长,大型底栖动物密度、生物量和丰富度指数均有不同程度的恢复.应用DCA排序方法有助于进一步分析大型底栖动物群落与水位调控措施强度之间的相互关系.研究结果表明,水位调控措施会对盐沼植被中大型底栖动物的密度、生物量和多样性产生负面影响,但这种影响在治理互花米草水位调控措施结束后可逐渐自然恢复.  相似文献

1. Changes in benthic invertebrate community structure following 16 years of forest succession after logging were examined by estimating benthic invertebrate abundance, biomass and secondary production in streams draining a forested reference and a recovering clear-cut catchment. Benthic invertebrate abundance was three times higher, and invertebrate biomass and production were two times higher in the disturbed stream.
2. Comparison of invertebrate community abundance 1, 5 and 16 years after clear-cutting indicated that the proportion of scrapers had decreased, whereas shredders had increased. Functional group percentage similarity indicated that the invertebrate community in the disturbed stream 16 years after clear-cutting was more similar to the reference than to that found earlier in the disturbed stream.
3. The five indices calculated from data collected over the past 16 years, as well as the abundance, biomass and production data collected during this study, proved to be of differing value in assessing recovery of the disturbed stream from logging. Percent dominant taxon and EPT (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera) taxon richness failed to show any initial differences between reference and disturbed streams, indicating that these indices may not be useful for measuring recovery from logging. The percentage Baetis and shredder–scraper indices showed significant differences only during the 1977 study and suggest recovery (no difference between reference and disturbed) by 1982. The North Carolina Biotic Index showed continued differences during 1982 in the riffle and depositional habitats and recovery by 1993. Total macroinvertebrate abundance, biomass and production, as well as EPT abundance, indicated continued differences between the reference and disturbed streams in the 1993 study.  相似文献

Chlorophyll a and primary production were studied in northern South China Sea during summer from 2007 to 2008. Microplankton dominated total phytoplankton biomass in the coast, while picoplankton dominated in the offshore. Algae bloom caused by Thalassionema nitzschioides was found at the subsurface of upwelling regions (D2, C2) in 2008, and maximum of phytoplankton abundance reached 1.58 × 106 ind L?1. Integrated primary production ranged from 189.3 to 976.2 mg m?2 d?1 in 2007, and ranged from 652.1 to 6601 mg m?2 d?1 in 2008. PP showed positive relationship with IPP (p < 0.01) and negative relationship with SST (p < 0.05). Coastal upwelling and Pearl River discharge sustained high PP, and played important role in regulating the phytoplankton biomass and production.  相似文献

1. An oligotrophic arctic lake was fertilised with inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus as (NH4)2 NO3 and H3PO4 for five summers. The loading rate was 1.7–2.5 mmol N m–2 day–1 and 0.136–0.20 mmol P m–2 day–1 which is two to three times the annual loading of lakes in the area. The heterotrophic microzooplankton community was enumerated during the experiment as well as 1 year pre- and post-treatment.
2. The structure of the microplankton community changed from a nutrient limited system, dominated by oligotrich protozoans and small-particle feeding rotifers, to a system dominated by a succession of peritrich protozoans and predatory rotifers. These peritrich protozoans and predatory rotifers were not present prior to fertilisation and never constituted more than a small fraction of the biomass in other lakes at the research site. The average biomass of the rotifers and protozoans was more than seven and a half times larger by the end of fertilisation than it was initially.
3. Because of the increases in numbers of individuals in these new taxa, the structure of the microbial food web changed. When fertilisation stopped, most parameters returned to prefertilisation levels within 1 year.  相似文献

Phytoplankton spatial distribution patterns in the Abra of Bilbao (a semienclosed coastal body of water) and adjacent shelf waters have been studied during June–July 1983 and May–June 1984. Small naked dinoflagellates, cryptophyceans and an unidentified nanoplankton component, were a common feature in all surveys. In July 1983 a dense bloom of nanoplankton developed inside the Abra which, in contrast to the community in the adhacent waters, contained high densities of small diatoms, naked dinoflagellates, cryptophyceans and the Haptophyta Phaeocystis pouchetii. Microplankton was mainly composed of dinoflagellates in July 1983, and of diatoms in June 1983 and May–June 1984. Microplankton abundance was highest in May–June 1984 and decreased from the shelf to the Abra. A principal component analysis performed separately on each cruise revealed the differences in the structure of the phytoplankton community between the Abra of Bilbao and the adjacent shelf waters.  相似文献
