The effect of hypoxia on isolated perfused rat mesenteric basal venous prostanoid output was studied. Male rat splanchnic vasculature was removed without (SV) or with its end organ (SV + SI) and perfused with Krebs' buffer with a pO2 of 460 or 60 mm torr. Basal splanchnic venous effluent was assayed for 6-keto-PGF1 alpha, TxB2 and PGE by radioimmunoassay at 30, 60, 120 and 180 min of perfusion. Basal output of SV 6-keto-PGF1 alpha was five and ten fold higher than for PGE and TxB2 respectively and comprised 36% or greater of SV + SI 6-keto-PGF1 alpha output. SV PGE and TxB2 output comprised less than 19 and 12% respectively of SV + SI output. Hypoxia decreased SV + SI PG output, 6-keto-PGF1 alpha being most affected. Hypoxia did not alter SV 6-keto-PGF1 alpha output indicating the SI as the anatomic location most influenced by hypoxia. The relative amounts of distribution of PGE or TxB2 output were not altered by hypoxia. These data suggest that there are two distinct areas of splanchnic prostanoid output, the SV and the SI. Decreased 6-keto-PGF1 alpha output might alter splanchnic blood flow at two levels, the splanchnic vasculature, and/or within the bowel wall.  相似文献

The splanchnic circulation can make a major contribution to blood flow changes. However, the role of the splanchnic circulation in the reflex adjustments to the blood pressure increase during isometric exercise is not well documented. The central command and the muscle chemoreflex are the two major mechanisms involved in the blood pressure response to isometric exercise. This study aimed to examine the behaviour of the superior mesenteric artery during isometric handgrip (IHG) at 30% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). The pulsatility index (PI) of the blood velocity waveform of the superior mesenteric artery was taken as the study parameter. A total of ten healthy subjects [mean age, 21.1 (SEM 0.3) years] performed an IHG at 30% MVC for 90 s. At 5 s prior to the end of the exercise, muscle circulation was arrested for 90 s to study the effect of the muscle chemoreflex (post exercise arterial occlusion, PEAO). The IHG at 30% MVC caused a decrease in superior mesenteric artery PI, from 4.84 (SEM 1.57) at control level to 3.90 (SEM 1.07) (P = 0.015). The PI further decreased to 3.17 (SEM 0.70) (P = 0.01) during PEAO. Our results indicated that ergoreceptors may be involved in the superior mesenteric artery vasodilatation during isometric exercise.  相似文献

Noninvasive diffusing capacity and cardiac output in exercising dogs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We have developed a rebreathing procedure to determine diffusing capacity (DLCO) and pulmonary blood flow (Qc) in the awake, exercising dog. A low dead space, leak-free respiratory mask with an incorporated mouthpiece was utilized to achieve mixing between the rebreathing bag and the dog's lung. The rebreathing bag was initially filled with approximately 1.0 liter of gas containing 0.6% C2H2, 0.3% C18O, 9% He, and 35-40% O2. End-tidal gas concentrations were measured with a respiratory mass spectrometer. The disappearance of C2H2 and C18O was measured with respect to He to calculate Qc and DLCO. Values for DLCO in dogs, expressed per kilogram of body weight, were much larger than those reported in humans. However, at a given level of absolute O2 consumption, measurements of absolute DLCO in dogs were comparable to those reported in humans by both rebreathing and steady-state methods at rest and near-maximal exercise. These results suggest that DLCO is more closely matched to the metabolic capacity (i.e., maximal O2 consumption) than to body size between these two species.  相似文献

Maximal mechanical power output and capacity of cyclists and young adults   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The maximal average power output (Wmax) has been examined in 10 male students, 22 pursuit and 12 sprint cyclists. In 24 of these subjects (8 students, 10 pursuit and 6 sprint cyclists), estimates of the maximal capacity (Wcap) of the short-term anaerobic energy yielding processes were made. The results show that the sprinters had a higher absolute Wmax (1241 +/- 266 W) and Wcap (16.7 +/- 4.9 kJ) than either the students (1019 +/- 183 W, 14.7 +/- 2.8 kJ) or the pursuit cyclists (962 +/- 206 W, 14.0 +/- 2.9 kJ). However, the differences were removed when the values were standardised for muscle size. In the sprinters the Wmax was attained at an optimal pedal frequency Vopt of 132 +/- 3 min-1 and the estimated maximal velocity of pedalling (V0) was 262 +/- 8 min-1. The comparable figures in the students and pursuit cyclists were 118 +/- 8 min-1, 235 +/- 17 min-1 and 122 +/- 6 min-1, 242 +/- 12 min-1 respectively. The coefficient of variation of duplicate measurements of Wcap was found to be +/- 9%. Using data of Wilkie (1968) for muscle phosphagen and glycolytic stores (27 mmol.kg-1), it was estimated that the probable efficiency of the anaerobic processes during maximal cycling was 0.22. It was concluded that Wmax and Wcap are largely determined by body size and muscularity. The efficiency of anaerobiosis appears to be of the same order of magnitude as found for oxidative work.  相似文献

Influence of hip orientation on Wingate power output and cycling technique   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The effect of altered hip orientation angle ([HOA] angle of hip joint center to bottom bracket relative to horizontal) on Wingate anaerobic test results and cycling technique while maintaining a constant body configuration angle (included angle between torso, hip, and bottom bracket) and maximum hip-to-pedal distance was examined. Nineteen recreational cyclists, all men, with no recent recumbent cycling experience completed 30-second Wingate tests in 3 recumbent positions (HOA = -20 degrees, -10 degrees, and 0 degrees ) and the standard cycling position (SCP) (HOA = 75 degrees ). Peak, average, and minimum power output, as well as fatigue index, were not significantly different across all positions (p < 0.01). Average hip and knee extension angles increased slightly, and ankle angle did not change as HOA increased. These findings indicate that although HOA does have a small effect on cycling kinematics, these effects are not large enough to alter short-term power output. Therefore, anaerobic power output may be evaluated and compared in the recumbent positions and the SCP.  相似文献

The influence of VIP, a potent vasodilator, on central hemodynamics, splanchnic blood flow and glucose metabolism was studied in six healthy subjects. Teflon catheters were inserted into an artery, a femoral vein and a right-sided hepatic vein. A Swan-Ganz catheter was introduced percutaneously and its tip placed in the pulmonary artery. Determinations of cardiac output, systemic, pulmonary arterial and hepatic venous pressures as well as splanchnic blood flow were made in the basal state and at the end of two consecutive 45 min periods of VIP infusion at 5 and 10 ng/kg/min, respectively. Arterial blood samples for analysis of glucose, FFA, insulin and glucagon were drawn at timed intervals. VIP infusion at 5 ng/kg/min resulted in an increase in cardiac output (55%) and heart rate (25%) as well as a reduction in mean systemic arterial pressure (15%) and vascular resistance (45%). With the higher rate of VIP infusion heart rate tended to rise further while cardiac output and arterial pressure remained unchanged. At 15 min after the end of VIP infusion the above variables had returned to basal levels. Splanchnic blood flow and free hepatic venous pressure did not change significantly. Arterial concentrations of glucose, FFA, insulin and glucagon increased during VIP infusion. At 15 min after the end of infusion the glucose levels were still significantly higher than basal (20%). Net splanchnic glucose output did not change in response to VIP infusion. It is concluded that VIP exerts a potent vasodilatory effect resulting in augmented cardiac output and lowered systemic blood pressure and vascular resistance.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Both in normal subjects exposed to hypergravity and in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome, there are increased hydrostatic pressure gradients down the lung. Also, both conditions show an impaired arterial oxygenation, which is less severe in the prone than in the supine posture. The aim of this study was to use hypergravity to further investigate the mechanisms behind the differences in arterial oxygenation between the prone and the supine posture. Ten healthy subjects were studied in a human centrifuge while exposed to 1 and 5 times normal gravity (1 G, 5 G) in the anterioposterior (supine) and posterioanterior (prone) direction. They performed one rebreathing maneuver after approximately 5 min at each G level and posture. Lung diffusing capacity decreased in hypergravity compared with 1 G (ANOVA, P = 0.002); it decreased by 46% in the supine posture compared with 25% in the prone (P = 0.01 for supine vs. prone). At the same time, functional residual capacity decreased by 33 and 23%, respectively (P < 0.001 for supine vs. prone), and cardiac output by 40 and 31% (P = 0.007 for supine vs. prone), despite an increase in heart rate of 16 and 28% (P < 0.001 for supine vs. prone), respectively. The finding of a more impaired diffusing capacity in the supine posture compared with the prone at 5 G supports our previous observations of more severe arterial hypoxemia in the supine posture during hypergravity. A reduced pulmonary-capillary blood flow and a reduced estimated alveolar volume can explain most of the reduction in diffusing capacity when supine.  相似文献

The high occurrence of social monogamy in birds has led to questions about partner fidelity, or the perennial nature of monogamy from one breeding season to another. Despite the evolutionary advantages of partner fidelity, divorce occurs among 95% of bird species. We aimed to describe patterns of divorce and partner fidelity in five seabird species breeding in Arctic and Antarctic regions and investigated the influence of breeding status on pair bond maintenance. For four out of the five species considered, we observed low divorce rates (respectively 1.9%, 3.3%, 2.5%, and 0.0% for Brünnich''s guillemot, glaucous gull, Antarctic petrel, and south polar skua), while the divorce rate was much higher (19.1%) for the black‐legged kittiwake. For kittiwakes, the divorce rate was lower for pairs that managed to raise their chick to 15 days of age, while the effect of breeding success on divorce in the four other species could not be tested due to the rareness of divorce events. Our results emphasize the potentially large temporal (interannual) variations that should be taken into account in understanding divorce and partner fidelity in seabirds.  相似文献
