The aim of the present paper was to study the development of fatigue during isometric intermittent handgrip exercise. Using a handgrip dynamometer, four combinations of contraction-relaxation periods were studied (10 + 10, 10 + 5, 10 + 2 s and continuous contraction) at three contraction intensities (10, 25 and 40% maximum voluntary contraction, MVC). Local blood flow (BF) in the forearm (venous occlusion plethysmography) was followed before, during and after the exercise period. Electromyography (EMG) (frequency analysis) and the perceived effort and pain were recorded during the exercise period. Forearm BF is insufficient even at isometric contractions of low intensity (10% MVC). The results indicate that vasodilating metabolites play an active role for BF in low-intensity isometric contractions. It is shown that maximal BF in the forearm during relaxation periods (25-30 ml.min-1.100 ml-1) is already reached at 25% MVC. Only intermittent exercise at 10% MVC and (10 + 5 s) and (10 + 10 s) at 25% MVC was considered acceptable with regard to local fatigue, which was defined as a switch of local BF to the post-exercise period, a decrease in the number of zero-crossings (EMG) and marked increases in subjective ratings. 相似文献

Experiments were performed to assess the possible neurally mediated constriction in active skeletal muscle during isometric hand-grip contractions. Forearm blood flow was measured by venous occlusion plethysmography on 5 volunteers who exerted a series of repeated contractions of 4 s duration every 12 s at 60% of their maximum strength of fatigue. The blood flows increased initially, but then remained constant at 20-24 ml X min(-1) X 100 ml(-1) throughout the exercise even though mean arterial blood pressure reached 21-23 kPa (160-170 mm Hg). When the same exercise was performed after arterial infusion of phentolamine, forearm blood flow increased steadily to near maximal levels of 38.7 +/- 1.4 ml X min(-1) X 100 ml(-1). Venous catecholamines, principally norepinephrine, increased throughout exercise, reaching peak values of 983 +/- 258 pg X ml(-1) at fatigue. Of the vasoactive substances measured, the concentration of K+ and osmolarity in venous plasma also increased initially and reached a steady-state during the exercise but ATP increased steadily throughout the exercise. These data indicate a continually increasing alpha-adrenergic constriction to the vascular beds in active muscles in the human forearm during isometric exercise, that is only partially counteracted by vasoactive metabolites. 相似文献

The effects of dynamic and intermittent isometric knee extension exercises on skeletal muscle blood flow and flow heterogeneity were studied in seven healthy endurance-trained men. Regional muscle blood flow was measured using positron emission tomography (PET) and an [(15)O]H(2)O tracer, and electromyographic (EMG) activity was recorded in the quadriceps femoris (QF) muscle during submaximal intermittent isometric and dynamic exercises. QF blood flow was 61% (P = 0.002) higher during dynamic exercise. Interestingly, flow heterogeneity was 13% (P = 0.024) lower during dynamic compared with intermittent isometric exercise. EMG activity was significantly higher (P < 0.001) during dynamic exercise, and the change in EMG activity from isometric to dynamic exercise was tightly related to the change in blood flow in the vastus lateralis muscle (r = 0.98, P < 0.001) but not in the rectus femoris muscle (r = -0.09, P = 0.942). In conclusion, dynamic exercise causes higher and less heterogeneous blood flow than intermittent isometric exercise at the same exercise intensity. These responses are, at least partly, related to the increased EMG activity. 相似文献

Five healthy men exercised at 65-70% of maximum O2 uptake (VO2 max) for 30 min in an ambient temperature of 30 degrees C. Duplicate experiments were conducted at three levels of plasma volume:control, hypovolemia, in which blood volume (BV) was reduced an average of 490 ml (9.7%) with diuretics, and hypervolemia, in which BV was increased an average of 440 ml (7.8%) by infusing an isotonic solution containing 5% human serum albumin. Marked venoconstriction occurred during exercise in all conditions and persisted despite large increases in deep body temperature. The degree of venoconstriction was similar during control and hypervolemic conditions, but was potentiated during hypovolemia. The observed venoconstriction appeared to consist of two components: an early one related to autonomic adjustments at the onset of exercise, and a later one possibly related to progressive decreases in cardiac filling. Heart rate, cardiac stroke volume (SV), and cardiac output during exercise were significantly affected by changes in BV. During hypovolemia the average differences from control values were 10 beats X min-1, -14 ml, and -2.2 l X min-1, respectively; during hypervolemia the differences from control were -7 X min-1, 10 ml, and 1.0 l X min-1, respectively. The pattern of SV over the course of exercise indicates that pooling of blood in veins may be quantitatively more important than plasma water loss in reducing cardiac filling pressure in the heat. 相似文献

Venous occlusion plethysmography is widely used to assess forearm blood flow (FBF). We compared the established Hokanson system (HEC4) with a newly developed Filtrass 2001 system (F2001). The HEC4 uses mercury-in-Silastic strain gauges, whereas F2001 detects volume changes with a nonmercury linear displacement device. The aim of this study was to evaluate the new F2001 against the HEC4 in terms of repeatability and systematic bias. Ten subjects were studied on 4 separate days in random order using either the HEC4 on both arms, the F2001 on both arms, the HEC4 on the right arm with the F2001 on the left, or the F2001 on the right arm and the HEC4 on the left. Stroop's colored word conflict test and postocclusive hyperemia were used to increase FBF, and lower body negative pressure was used to lower FBF. Stroop's colored word conflict test and lower body negative pressure increased (24.6 +/- 1.5%, n = 240, P < 0.0001) and decreased (18.7 +/- 0.8%, n = 240, P < 0.0001) FBF, respectively. Postocclusive hyperemia after occlusion times of 5, 8, and 13 min substantially increased FBF by 390 +/- 86, 756 +/- 217, and 851 +/- 132%, respectively. Repeatability was not different between the devices (0.10 +/- 2.37 vs. -0.47 +/- 1.92 l/min, n = 125, P > 0.05), and there was no systematic bias. The F2001 is a newly developed plethysmography system that does not utilize mercury and is suitable for assessing changes of FBF in physiological studies. 相似文献

Effect of luteal phase elevation in core temperature on forearm blood flow during exercise 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Kolka, Margaret A., and Lou A. Stephenson. Effect ofluteal phase elevation in core temperature on forearm blood flow duringexercise. J. Appl. Physiol. 82(4):1079-1083, 1997.Forearm blood flow (FBF) as an index of skinblood flow in the forearm was measured in five healthy women by venousocclusion plethysmography during leg exercise at 80% peak aerobicpower and ambient temperature of 35°C (relative humidity 22%;dew-point temperature 10°C). Resting esophagealtemperature (Tes) was 0.3 ± 0.1°C higher in the midluteal than in the early follicular phase ofthe menstrual cycle (P < 0.05).Resting FBF was not different between menstrual cycle phases. TheTes threshold for onset of skinvasodilation was higher (37.4 ± 0.2°C) in midluteal than inearly follicular phase (37.0 ± 0.1°C; P < 0.05). The slope of the FBF toTes relationship was not different between menstrual cycle phases (14.0 ± 4.2 ml · 100 ml1 · min1 · °C1for early follicular and 16.3 ± 3.2 ml · 100 ml1 · min1 · °C1for midluteal phase). Plateau FBF was higher during exercise inmidluteal (14.6 ± 2.2 ml · 100 ml1 · min1 · °C1)compared with early follicular phase (10.9 ± 2.4 ml · 100 ml1 · min1 · °C1;P < 0.05). The attenuation of theincrease in FBF to Tes occurred when Tes was 0.6°C higher andat higher FBF in midluteal than in early follicular experiments(P < 0.05). In summary, the FBF response is different during exercise in the two menstrual cycle phasesstudied. After the attenuation of the increase in FBF and whileTes was still increasing, thegreater FBF in the midluteal phase may have been due to the effects ofincreased endogenous reproductive endocrines on the cutaneousvasculature. 相似文献

The range of pulsatile arm and finger blood flow, measured by electrical impedance plethysmography, has been investigated in a hospital ward. The range of absolute blood flows, in ml min−1, was found to be too wide to be used as a standard for identifying single blood flow readings as being abnormal. A blood flow ratio was calculated by dividing the blood flow in the right forearm or middle finger by the blood flow in the left forearm or middle finger. This ratio was found to have a clearly defined range. A blood flow in a unilaterally injured or otherwise abnormal arm or finger was considered to be significantly altered if the blood flow ratio fell outside the previously defined normal range. The diagnosis of significantly altered arm and finger blood flow from abnormalities in the blood flow ratio was tested in a series of experiments, in which artificial changes in upper limb flow were created by high elevation of the right hand. The ratio was measured in 11 patients with unilateral upper limb injuries and in 3 patients who required an urgent assessment of the upper limb circulation. Abnormalities in the ratio were identified in 12 out of 18 subjects after high elevation of the hand and in 8 out of the 14 patients. 相似文献

Effects of caffeine on blood pressure, heart rate, and forearm blood flow during dynamic leg exercise 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3

This study examined the acute effects of caffeine on thecardiovascular system during dynamic leg exercise. Ten trained,caffeine-naive cyclists (7 women and 3 men) were studied at rest andduring bicycle ergometry before and after the ingestion of 6 mg/kgcaffeine or 6 mg/kg fructose (placebo) with 250 ml of water. Afterconsumption of caffeine or placebo, subjects either rested for 100 min(rest protocol) or rested for 45 min followed by 55 min of cycleergometry at 65% of maximal oxygen consumption (exercise protocol).Measurement of mean arterial pressure (MAP), forearm blood flow (FBF),heart rate, skin temperature, and rectal temperature and calculation offorearm vascular conductance (FVC) were made at baseline and at 20-minintervals. Plasma ANG II was measured at baseline and at 60 minpostingestion in the two exercise protocols. Before exercise, caffeineincreased both systolic blood pressure (17%) and MAP (11%) withoutaffecting FBF or FVC. During dynamic exercise, caffeine attenuated theincrease in FBF (53%) and FVC (50%) and accentuated exercise-inducedincreases in ANG II (44%). Systolic blood pressure and MAP were alsohigher during exercise plus caffeine; however, these increases weresecondary to the effects of caffeine on resting bloodpressure. No significant differences were observed inheart rate, skin temperature, or rectal temperature. These findingsindicate that caffeine can alter the cardiovascular response to dynamicexercise in a manner that may modify regional blood flow andconductance. 相似文献

To test the hypothesis that sex influences forearm blood flow (FBF) during exercise, 15 women and 16 men of similar age [women 24.3 +/- 4.0 (SD) vs. men 24.9 +/- 4.5 yr] but different forearm muscle strength (women 290.7 +/- 44.4 vs. men 509.6 +/- 97.8 N; P < 0.05) performed dynamic handgrip exercise as the same absolute workload was increased in a ramp function (0.25 W/min). Task failure was defined as the inability to maintain contraction rate. Blood pressure and FBF were measured on separate arms during exercise by auscultation and Doppler ultrasound, respectively. Muscle strength was positively correlated with endurance time (r = 0.72, P < 0.01) such that women had a shorter time to task failure than men (450.5 +/- 113.0 vs. 831.3 +/- 272.9 s; P < 0.05). However, the percentage of maximal handgrip strength achieved at task failure was similar between sexes (14% maximum voluntary contraction). FBF was similar between women and men throughout exercise and at task failure (women 13.6 +/- 5.3 vs. men 14.5 +/- 4.9 ml.min(-1).100 ml(-1)). Mean arterial pressure was lower in women at rest and during exercise; thus calculated forearm vascular conductance (FVC) was higher in women during exercise but similar between sexes at task failure (women 0.13 +/- 0.05 vs. men 0.11 +/- 0.04 ml.min(-1).100 ml(-1).mmHg(-1)). In conclusion, the similar FBF during exercise was achieved by a higher FVC in the presence of a lower MAP in women than men. Still, FBF remained coupled to work rate (and presumably metabolic demand) during exercise irrespective of sex. 相似文献
