Atomically thin 2D heterostructures have opened new realms in electronic and optoelectronic devices. Herein, 2D lateral heterostructures of mesoporous In2O3–x/In2S3 atomic layers are synthesized through the in situ oxidation of In2S3 atomic layers by an oxygen plasma‐induced strategy. Based on experimental observations and theoretical calculations, the prolonged charge carrier lifetime and increased electron density reveal the efficient photoexcited carrier transport and separation in the In2O3–x/In2S3 layers by interfacial bonding at the atomic level. As expected, the synergistic structural and electronic modulations of the In2O3–x/In2S3 layers generate a photocurrent of 1.28 mA cm?2 at 1.23 V versus a reversible hydrogen electrode, nearly 21 and 79 times higher than those of the In2S3 atomic layers and bulk counterpart, respectively. Due to the large surface area, abundant active sites, broadband‐light harvesting ability, and effective charge transport pathways, the In2O3–x/In2S3 layers build efficient pathways for photoexcited charge in the 2D semiconductive channels, expediting charge transport and kinetic processes and enhancing the robust broadband‐light photo‐electrochemical water splitting performance. This work paves new avenues for the exploration and design of atomically thin 2D lateral heterostructures toward robust photo‐electrochemical applications and solar energy utilization.  相似文献

This work presents a novel photo‐electrochemical architecture based on the 3D pyramid‐like graphene/p‐Si Schottky junctions. Overcoming the conventional transfer technique by which only planar graphene/Si Schottky junctions are currently available, this work demonstrates the 3D pyramid‐like graphene/p‐Si Schottky junction photocathode, which greatly enhances light harvesting efficiency and exhibits promising photo‐electrochemical performance for hydrogen generation. The formation of 3D pyramid‐like graphene/p‐Si Schottky junctions exhibits enhanced electrochemical activity and promotes charge separation efficiency compared with the bare pyramid Si surface without graphene. The inherent chemical inertness of graphene significantly improves the operational stability of 3D graphene/p‐Si Schottky junction photo‐electrochemical cells. The 3D pyramid‐like graphene/p‐Si Schottky junction photocathode delivers an onset potential of 0.41 V and a saturated photocurrent density of ?32.5 mA cm?2 at 0 V (vs RHE) with excellent stability comparable to values reported for textured or nanostructured p‐Si photocathodes coated with ultrathin oxide layers by the conventional atomic layer deposition technique. These results suggest that the formation of graphene/Si Schottky junctions with a 3D architecture is a promising approach to improve the performance and durability of Si‐based photo‐electrochemical systems for water splitting or solar‐to‐fuel conversion.  相似文献

Direct photo‐electrochemical (PEC) water splitting is of great practical interest for developing a sustainable energy systems, but remains a big challenge owing to sluggish charge separation, low efficiency, and poor stability. Herein, a 3D porous In2O3/In2S3 pyramid heterostructure array on a fluorine‐doped tin oxide substrate is fabricated by an ion exchange–induced synthesis strategy. Based on the synergistic structural and electronic modulations from density functional theory calculations and experimental observations, 3D porous In2O3/In2S3 photoanode by the protective layer delivers a low onset potential of ≈0.02 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), the highest photocurrent density of 8.2 mA cm?2 at 1.23 V versus RHE among all the In2S3 photoanodes reported to date, an incident photon‐to‐current efficiency of 76% at 400 nm, and high stability over 20 h for PEC water splitting are reported. This work provides an alternative promising prototype for the design and construction of novel heterostructures in robust PEC water splitting applications.  相似文献

This study introduces zeolitic imidazolate framework‐8 (ZIF‐8) as the first metal‐organic framework based transparent surface passivation layer for photo‐electrochemical (PEC) water splitting. A significant enhancement for PEC water oxidation is demonstrated based on the in situ seamless coating of ZIF‐8 surface passivation layer on Ni foam (NF) supported ZnO nanorod arrays photoanode. The PEC performance is improved by optimizing the ZIF‐8 thickness and by grafting Ni(OH)2 nanosheets as synergetic co‐catalyst. With respect to ZnO/NF, the optimized Ni(OH)2/ZIF‐8/ZnO/NF photoanode exhibits a two times larger photocurrent density of 1.95 mA cm?2 and also a two times larger incident photon to current conversion efficiency of 40.05% (350 nm) at 1.23 V versus RHE (VRHE) under AM 1.5 G. The synergetic surface passivation and the co‐catalyst modification contribute to prolonging the charge lifetime, to promoting the charge transfer, and to decreasing the overpotential for water oxidation.  相似文献

2D layer‐structured materials are considered a promising candidate as a coupling material in lithium sulfur batteries (LSBs) due to their high surface‐volume ratio and abundant active binding sites, which can efficiently mitigate shuttling of soluble polysulfides. Herein, an electrochemical Li intercalation and exfoliation strategy is used to prepare 2D Sb2S3 nanosheets (SSNSs), which are incorporated onto a separator in LSBs as a new 2D coupling material for the first time. The cells containing a rationally designed separator which is coated with an SSNS/carbon nanotube (CNT) coupling layer deliver a much improved specific capacity with a remarkable 0.05% decay rate for over 200 cycles at a current density of 2 C. The capability of the SSNSs to entrap polysulfides through their favorable interfacial functionality and the high electrical conductivity of the CNT network facilitates recycling of active materials. The first‐principle calculations verify the important roles of SSNSs, which demonstrate ideal binding strengths (1.33–2.14 eV) to entrap Li2Sx as well as a low‐energy barrier (189 meV) for Li diffusion. These findings offer new insights into discovering novel coupling layers for high‐performance LSBs and shed new light on the application of 2D layer‐structured materials in energy storage systems.  相似文献

Understanding the degradation mechanisms of photoelectrodes and improving their stability are essential for fully realizing solar‐to‐hydrogen conversion via photo‐electrochemical (PEC) devices. Although amorphous TiO2 layers have been widely employed as a protective layer on top of p‐type semiconductors to implement durable photocathodes, gradual photocurrent degradation is still unavoidable. This study elucidates the photocurrent degradation mechanisms of TiO2‐protected Sb2Se3 photocathodes and proposes a novel interface‐modification methodology in which fullerene (C60) is introduced as a photoelectron transfer promoter for significantly enhancing long‐term stability. It is demonstrated that the accumulation of photogenerated electrons at the surface of the TiO2 layer induces the reductive dissolution of TiO2, accompanied by photocurrent degradation. In addition, the insertion of the C60 photoelectron transfer promoter at the Pt/TiO2 interface facilitates the rapid transfer of photogenerated electrons out of the TiO2 layer, thereby yielding enhanced stability. The Pt/C60/TiO2/Sb2Se3 device exhibits a high photocurrent density of 17 mA cm?2 and outstanding stability over 10 h of operation, representing the best PEC performance and long‐term stability compared with previously reported Sb2Se3‐based photocathodes. This research not only provides in‐depth understanding of the degradation mechanisms of TiO2‐protected photocathodes, but also suggests a new direction to achieve durable photocathodes for photo‐electrochemical water splitting.  相似文献

The photoelectrochemical performance of the WO3 photoanode is limited by the severe charge recombination in the bulk phase and at the WO3/electrolyte interface. Herein, In2S3 nanosheets are integrated onto the surface of the WO3 nanowall array photoanode, followed by a facile polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) solution treatment. The PVP treatment results in sulfur vacancies and a gradient oxygen doping into In2S3 from surface to interior, which induces the formation of a gradient energy band distribution. The gradient band structured In2S3 and type II band alignment at the WO3/In2S3 interface simultaneously create a channel that favors photogenerated electrons to migrate from the surface to the conductive substrate, thereby suppressing bulk carrier recombination. Meanwhile, the sulfur vacancies and oxygen doping contribute to increased charge carrier concentration, prolonged carrier lifetime, more active sites, and small interfacial transfer impedance. As a consequence, the PVP treated WO3/In2S3 heterostructure photoanode exhibits a significantly enhanced photocurrent of 1.61 mA cm?2 at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and negative onset potential of 0.02 V versus RHE.  相似文献

3D‐networked, ultrathin, and porous Ni3S2/CoNi2S4 on Ni foam (NF) is successfully designed and synthesized by a simple sulfidation process from 3D Ni–Co precursors. Interestingly, the edge site‐enriched Ni3S2/CoNi2S4/NF 3D‐network is realized by the etching‐like effect of S2? ions, which made the surfaces of Ni3S2/CoNi2S4/NF with a ridge‐like feature. The intriguing structural/compositional/componental advantages endow 3D‐networked‐free‐standing Ni3S2/CoNi2S4/NF electrodes better electrochemical performance with specific capacitance of 2435 F g?1 at a current density of 2 A g?1 and an excellent rate capability of 80% at 20 A g?1. The corresponding asymmetric supercapacitor achieves a high energy density of 40.0 W h kg?1 at an superhigh power density of 17.3 kW kg?1, excellent specific capacitance (175 F g?1 at 1A g?1), and electrochemical cycling stability (92.8% retention after 6000 cycles) with Ni3S2/CoNi2S4/NF as the positive electrode and activated carbon/NF as the negative electrode. Moreover, the temperature dependences of cyclic voltammetry curve polarization and specific capacitances are carefully investigated, and become more obvious and higher, respectively, with the increase of test temperature. These can be attributed to the components' synergetic effect assuring rich redox reactions, high conductivity as well as highly porous but robust architectures. This work provides a general, low‐cost route to produce high performance electrode materials for portable supercapacitor applications on a large scale.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel freestanding core‐branch negative and positive electrode material through integrating trim aligned Fe2O3 nanoneedle arrays (Fe2O3 NNAs) is first proposed with typical mesoporous structures and NiCo2O4/Ni(OH)2 hybrid nanosheet arrays (NiCo2O4/Ni(OH)2 HNAs) on SiC nanowire (SiC NW) skeletons with outstanding resistance to oxidation and corrosion, good conductivity, and large‐specific surface area. The original built SiC NWs@Fe2O3 NNAs is validated to be a highly capacitive negative electrode (721 F g?1 at 2 A g?1, i.e., 1 F cm?2 at 2.8 mA cm?2), matching well with the similarly constructed SiC NWs@NiCo2O4/Ni(OH)2 HNAs positive electrode (2580 F g?1 at 4 A g?1, i.e., 3.12 F cm?2 at 4.8 mA cm?2). Contributed by the uniquely engineered electrodes, a high‐performance asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) is developed, which can exhibit a maximum energy density of 103 W h kg?1 at a power density of 3.5 kW kg?1, even when charging the device within 6.5 s, the energy density can still maintain as high as 45 W h kg?1 at 26.1 kW kg?1, and the ASC manifests long cycling lifespan with 86.6% capacitance retention even after 5000 cycles. This pioneering work not only offers an attractive strategy for rational construction of high‐performance SiC NW‐based nanostructured electrodes materials, but also provides a fresh route for manufacturing next‐generation high‐energy storage and conversion systems.  相似文献

Metal oxide/Si heterostructures make up an exciting design route to high‐performance electrodes for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. By monochromatic light sources, contributions of the individual layers in WO3/n‐Si heterostructures are untangled. It shows that band bending near the WO3/n‐Si interface is instrumental in charge separation and transport, and in generating a photovoltage that drives the PEC process. A thin metal layer inserted at the WO3/n‐Si interface helps in establishing the relation among the band bending depth, the photovoltage, and the PEC activity. This discovery breaks with the dominant Z‐scheme design idea, which focuses on increasing the conductivity of an interface layer to facilitate charge transport, but ignores the potential profile around the interface. Based on the analysis, a high‐work‐function metal is predicted to provide the best interface layer in WO3/n‐Si heterojunctions. Indeed, the fabricated WO3/Pt/n‐Si photoelectrodes exhibit a 2 times higher photocurrent density at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and a 10 times enhancement at 1.6 V versus RHE compared to WO3/n‐Si. Here, it is essential that the native SiO2 layer at the interface between Si and the metal is kept in order to prevent Fermi level pinning in the Schottky contact between the Si and the metal.  相似文献

Polymeric carbon nitride (CN) has emerged as a promising semiconductor for energy‐related applications. However, its utilization in photo‐electrochemical cells is still very limited owing to poor electron–hole separation efficiency, short electron diffusion length, and low absorption coefficient. Here the synthesis of a highly porous carbon nitride/reduced graphene oxide (CN‐rGO) film with good photo‐electrochemical properties is reported. The CN‐rGO film exhibits long electron diffusion length and high electrochemical active surface area, good charge separation, and enhanced light‐harvesting properties. The film displays a 20‐fold enhancement of photocurrent density over pristine CN, reaching up to 75 µA cm?2 at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) in an alkaline solution, as well as stability over a wide pH range. Photocurrent measurements with a hole scavenger reveal a photocurrent density of 660 µA cm?2 at 1.23 V versus RHE and a quantum efficiency of 60% at 400 nm, resulting in the production of 0.8 mol h?1 g?1 of hydrogen. The substantial photo‐electrochemical activity enhancement and hydrogen production together with the low price, high electrochemical surface area, long electron diffusion length, stability under harsh condition, and tunable photophysical properties of CN materials open many possibilities for their utilization in (photo)electrochemical and electronic devices.  相似文献

The exploration of new and efficient energy storage mechanisms through nanostructured electrode design is crucial for the development of high‐performance rechargeable batteries. Herein, black phosphorus quantum dots (BPQDs) and Ti3C2 nanosheets (TNSs) are employed as battery and pseudocapacitive components, respectively, to construct BPQD/TNS composite anodes with a novel battery‐capacitive dual‐model energy storage (DMES) mechanism for lithium‐ion and sodium‐ion batteries. Specifically, as a battery‐type component, BPQDs anchored on the TNSs are endowed with improved conductivity and relieved stress upon cycling, enabling a high‐capacity and stable energy storage. Meanwhile, the pseudocapacitive TNS component with further atomic charge polarization induced by P? O? Ti interfacial bonds between the two components allows enhanced charge adsorption and efficient interfacial electron transfer, contributing a higher pseudocapacitive value and fast energy storage. The DMES mechanism is evidenced by substantial characterizations of X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X‐ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy, density functional theory calculations, and kinetics analyses. Consequently, the composite electrode exhibits superior battery performance, especially for lithium storage, such as high capacity (910 mAh g?1 at 100 mA g?1), long cycling stability (2400 cycles with a capacity retention over 100%), and high rate capability, representing the best comprehensive battery performance in BP‐based anodes to date.  相似文献

Black TiO2 has demonstrated a great potential for a variety of renewable energy technologies. However, its practical application is heavily hindered due to lack of efficient hydrogenation methods and a deeper understanding of hydrogenation mechanisms. Here, a simple and straightforward hot wire annealing (HWA) method is presented to prepare black TiO2 (H–TiO2) nanorods with enhanced photo‐electrochemical (PEC) activity by means of atomic hydrogen [H]. Compared to conventional molecular hydrogen approaches, the HWA shows remarkable effectiveness without any detrimental side effects on the device structure, and simultaneously the photocurrent density of H–TiO2 reaches 2.5 mA cm?2 (at 1.23 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE)). Due to the controllable and reproducible [H] flux, the HWA can be developed as a standard hydrogenation method for black TiO2. Meanwhile, the relationships between the wire temperatures, structural, optical, and photo‐electrochemical properties are systematically investigated to verify the improved PEC activity. Furthermore, the density functional theory (DFT) study provides a comprehensive insight not only into the highly efficient mechanism of the HWA approach but also its favorably low‐energy‐barrier hydrogenation pathway. The findings will have a profound impact on the broad energy applications of H–TiO2 and contribute to the fundamental understanding of its hydrogenation.  相似文献

Hierarchical hollow NiCo2S4 microspheres with a tunable interior architecture are synthesized by a facile and cost‐effective hydrothermal method, and used as a cathode material. A three‐dimensional (3D) porous reduced graphene oxide/Fe2O3 composite (rGO/Fe2O3) with precisely controlled particle size and morphology is successfully prepared through a scalable facile approach, with well‐dispersed Fe2O3 nanoparticles decorating the surface of rGO sheets. The fixed Fe2O3 nanoparticles in graphene efficiently prevent the intermediates during the redox reaction from dissolving into the electrolyte, resulting in long cycle life. KOH activation of the rGO/Fe2O3 composite is conducted for the preparation of an activated carbon material–based hybrid to transform into a 3D porous carbon material–based hybrid. An energy storage device consisting of hollow NiCo2S4 microspheres as the positive electrode, the 3D porous rGO/Fe2O3 composite as the negative electrode, and KOH solution as the electrolyte with a maximum energy density of 61.7 W h kg?1 is achieved owing to its wide operating voltage range of 0–1.75 V and the designed 3D structure. Moreover, the device exhibits a high power density of 22 kW kg?1 and a long cycle life with 90% retention after 1000 cycles at the current density of 1 A g?1.  相似文献

Silicon is attracting enormous attention due to its theoretical capacity of 4200 mAh g?1 as an anode for Li‐ion batteries (LIBs). It is of fundamental importance and challenge to develop low‐temperature reaction route to controllably synthesize Si/Ti3C2 MXene LIBs anodes. Herein, a novel and efficient strategy integrating in situ orthosilicate hydrolysis and a low‐temperature reduction process to synthesize Si/Ti3C2 MXene composites is reported. The hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate leads to homogenous nucleation and growth of SiO2 nanoparticles on the surface of Ti3C2 MXene. Subsequently, SiO2 nanoparticles are reduced to Si via a low‐temperature (200 °C) reduction route. Importantly, Ti3C2 MXene not only provides fast transfer channels for Li+ and electrons, but also relieves volume expansion of Si during cycling. Moreover, the characteristics of excellent pseudocapacitive performance and high conductivity of Ti3C2 MXene can synergistically contribute to the enhancement of energy storage performance. As expected, Ti3C2/Si anode exhibits an outstanding specific capacity of 1849 mAh g?1 at 100 mA g?1, even retaining 956 mAh g?1 at 1 A g?1. The low‐temperature synthetic route to Si/Ti3C2 MXene electrodes and involved battery‐capacitive dual‐model energy storage mechanism has potential in the design of novel high‐performance electrodes for energy storage devices.  相似文献
