As technologically important materials for solid‐state batteries, Li super‐ionic conductors are a class of materials exhibiting exceptionally high ionic conductivity at room temperature. These materials have unique crystal structural frameworks hosting a highly conductive Li sublattice. However, it is not understood why certain crystal structures of the super‐ionic conductors lead to high conductivity in the Li sublattice. In this study, using topological analysis and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, the crystal structures of all Li‐conducting oxides and sulfides are studied systematically and the key features pertaining to fast‐ion conduction are quantified. In particular, a unique feature of enlarged Li sites caused by large local spaces in the crystal structural framework is identified, promoting fast conduction in the Li‐ion sublattice. Based on these quantified features, the high‐throughput screening identifies many new structures as fast Li‐ion conductors, which are further confirmed by ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. This study provides new insights and a systematic quantitative understanding of the crystal structural frameworks of fast ion‐conductor materials and motivates future experimental and computational studies on new fast‐ion conductors.  相似文献

Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) garnet‐based materials doped with Al, Nb, or Ta to stabilize the Li+‐conductive cubic phase are a particularly promising class of solid electrolytes for all‐solid‐state lithium metal batteries. Understanding of the intrinsic reactivity between solid electrolytes and relevant electrode materials is crucial to developing high voltage solid‐state batteries with long lifetimes. Using a novel, surface science‐based approach to characterize the intrinsic reactivity of the Li–solid electrolyte interface, it is determined that, surprisingly, some degree of Zr reduction takes place for all three dopant types, with the extent of reduction increasing as Ta < Nb < Al. Significant reduction of Nb also takes place for Nb‐doped LLZO, with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of Li||Nb–LLZO||Li symmetric cells further revealing significant increases in impedance with time and suggesting that the Nb reduction propagates into the bulk. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that Nb‐doped material shows a strong preference for Nb dopants toward the interface between LLZO and Li, while Ta does not exhibit a similar preference. EIS and DFT results, coupled with the observed reduction of Zr at the interface, are consistent with the formation of an “oxygen‐deficient interphase” (ODI) layer whose structure determines the stability of the LLZO–Li interface.  相似文献

Complex hydrides exhibit various energy‐related functions such as hydrogen storage, microwave absorption, and neutron shielding. Furthermore, another novel energy‐related function was recently reported by the authors; lithium fast‐ionic conduction, which suggests that complex hydrides may be a potential candidate for solid electrolytes in lithium‐ion batteries. This review presents the recent progress in the development of lithium fast‐ionic conductors of complex hydrides. First, the fast‐ionic conduction in LiBH4 as a result of clarifying the mechanism of microwave absorption is presented, and then the conceptual development of complex hydrides as a new type of solid‐state lithium fast‐ionic conductors in LiBH4–, LiNH2–, and LiAlH4‐based complex hydrides is discussed. Finally, the future prospects of this study from both application and fundamental viewpoints are described: possible use as solid electrolytes for batteries, formation of ionic liquids in complex hydrides, and similarity between complex hydrides and Laves‐phase metal hydrides.  相似文献

High ionic conductivity of up to 6.4 × 10?3 S cm?1 near room temperature (40 °C) in lithium amide‐borohydrides is reported, comparable to values of liquid organic electrolytes commonly employed in lithium‐ion batteries. Density functional theory is applied coupled with X‐ray diffraction, calorimetry, and nuclear magnetic resonance experiments to shed light on the conduction mechanism. A Li4Ti5O12 half‐cell battery incorporating the lithium amide‐borohydride electrolyte exhibits good rate performance up to 3.5 mA cm?2 (5 C) and stable cycling over 400 cycles at 1 C at 40 °C, indicating high bulk and interfacial stability. The results demonstrate the potential of lithium amide‐borohydrides as solid‐state electrolytes for high‐power lithium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

The use of solid electrolytes is a promising direction to improve the energy density of lithium‐ion batteries. However, the low ionic conductivity of many solid electrolytes currently hinders the performance of solid‐state batteries. Sulfide solid electrolytes can be processed in a number of forms (glass, glass‐ceramic, and crystalline) and have a wide range of available chemistries. Crystalline sulfide materials demonstrate ionic conductivity on par with those of liquid electrolytes through the utilization of near ideal conduction pathways. Low‐temperature processing is also possible for these materials due to their favorable mechanical properties. The main drawback of sulfide solid electrolytes remains their electrochemical stability, but this can be addressed through compositional tuning or the use of artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). Implementation of sulfide solid electrolytes, with proper treatment for stability, can lead to substantial improvements in solid‐state battery performance leading to significant advancement in electric vehicle technology.  相似文献

After the research that shows that Li10GeP2S12 (LGPS)‐type sulfide solid electrolytes can reach the high ionic conductivity at the room temperature, sulfide solid electrolytes have been intensively developed with regard to ionic conductivity and mechanical properties. As a result, an increasing volume of research has been conducted to employ all‐solid‐state lithium batteries in electric automobiles within the next five years. To achieve this goal, it is important to review the research over the past decade, and understand the requirements for future research necessary to realize the practical applications of all‐solid‐state lithium batteries. To date, research on all‐solid‐state lithium batteries has focused on achieving overpotential properties similar to those of conventional liquid‐lithium‐ion batteries by increasing the ionic conductivity of the solid electrolytes. However, the increase in the ionic conductivity should be accompanied by improvements of the electronic conductivity within the electrode to enable practical applications. This essay provides a critical overview of the recent progress and future research directions of the all‐solid‐state lithium batteries for practical applications.  相似文献

Li‐ion‐conducting solid electrolytes can simultaneously overcome two grand challenges for Li‐ion batteries: the severe safety concerns that limit the large‐scale application and the poor electrolyte stability that forbids the use of high‐voltage cathodes. Nevertheless, the ionic conductivity of solid electrolytes is typically low, compromising the battery performances. Precisely determining the ionic transport mechanism(s) is a prerequisite for the rational design of highly conductive solid electrolytes. For decades, the research on this subject has primarily focused on the atomic and microscopic scales, where the main features of interest are unit cells and microstructures, respectively. Here, it is shown that the largely overlooked mesoscopic scale lying between these extremes could be the key to fast ionic conduction. In a prototype system, (Li0.33La0.56)TiO3, a mesoscopic framework is revealed for the first time by state‐of‐the‐art scanning transmission electron microscopy. Corroborated by theoretical calculations and impedance measurements, it is demonstrated that such a unique configuration maximizes the number of percolation directions and thus most effectively improves the ionic conductivity. This discovery reconciles the long‐standing structure–property inconsistency in (Li0.33La0.56)TiO3 and also identifies mesoscopic ordering as a promising general strategy for optimizing Li+ conduction.  相似文献

Fast ionic conductors constitute a family of materials exhibiting high values of the ionic conductivity while their crystal structure remains rather rigid. Perovskite‐like compounds are known to be good ionic conductors with applications as solid electrolytes. In hybrid halide perovskites both intrinsic (native) and extrinsic defect migration are regarded to occur. Ion diffusivity analysis is inherently ambiguous in all‐solid‐state configurations because of the multicomponent environment. Here, a liquid electrolyte in contact to the perovskite material forms a reservoir of Li+ that is forced to intercalate and migrate within the perovskite electrode. This approach decouples different contributions to transport in such a way that ion diffusion kinetics is easily accessible by means of impedance methods. The room‐temperature chemical diffusion coefficient of lithium ion within the perovskite lattice exhibits values as high as D μ ≈ 10?7 cm2 s?1, which implies conductivities within the range of 10?3 Ω?1 cm?1 for highly lithiated electrodes. This confirms the superionic intrinsic property of organohalide perovskites from a direct and unambiguous measurement that does not rely upon simulation tools.  相似文献

A combination of high ionic conductivity and facile processing suggest that sulfide‐based materials are promising solid electrolytes that have the potential to enable Li metal batteries. Although the Li2S‐P2S5 (LPS) family of compounds exhibit desirable characteristics, it is known that Li metal preferentially propagates through microstructural defects, such as particle boundaries and/or pores. Herein, it is demonstrated that a near theoretical density (98% relative density) LPS 75‐25 glassy electrolyte exhibiting high ionic conductivity can be achieved by optimizing the molding pressure and temperature. The optimal molding pressure reduces porosity and particle boundaries while preserving the preferred amorphous structure. Moreover, molecular rearrangements and favorable Li coordination environments for conduction are attained. Consequently, the Young's Modulus approximately doubles (30 GPa) and the ionic conductivity increases by a factor of five (1.1 mS cm?1) compared to conventional room temperature molding conditions. It is believed that this study can provide mechanistic insight into processing‐structure‐property relationships that can be used as a guide to tune microstructural defects/properties that have been identified to have an effect on the maximum charging current that a solid electrolyte can withstand during cycling without short‐circuiting.  相似文献

Replacing organic liquid electrolyte with inorganic solid electrolytes (SE) can potentially address the inherent safety problems in conventional rechargeable batteries. However, solid‐state batteries (SSBs) have been plagued by the relatively low ionic conductivity of SEs and large charge‐transfer resistance between electrode and SE. Here, a new design strategy is reported for improving the ionic conductivity of SE by self‐forming a composite material. An optimized Na+ ion conducting composite electrolyte derived from the Na1+ n Zr2Si n P3? n O12 NASICON (Na Super Ionic Conductor) structure is successfully synthesized, yielding ultrahigh ionic conductivity of 3.4 mS cm?1 at 25 °C and 14 mS cm?1 at 80 °C. On the other hand, in order to enhance the charge‐transfer rate at the electrode/electrolyte interface, an interface modification strategy is demonstrated by utilization of a small amount of nonflammable and nonvolatile ionic liquid (IL) at the cathode side in SSBs. The IL acts as a wetting agent, enabling a favorable interface kinetic in SSBs. The Na3V2(PO4)3/IL/SE/Na SSB exhibits excellent cycle performance and rate capability. A specific capacity of ≈90 mA h g?1 is maintained after 10 000 cycles without capacity decay under 10 C rate at room temperature. This provides a new perspective to design fast ion conductors and fabricate long life SSBs.  相似文献

High‐performance rechargeable all‐solid‐state lithium metal batteries with high energy density and enhanced safety are attractive for applications like portable electronic devices and electric vehicles. Among the various solid electrolytes, argyrodite Li6PS5Cl with high ionic conductivity and easy processability is of great interest. However, the low interface compatibility between sulfide solid electrolytes and high capacity cathodes like nickel‐rich layered oxides requires many thorny issues to be resolved, such as the space charge layer (SCL) and interfacial reactions. In this work, in situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and in situ Raman spectroscopy measurements are performed to monitor the detailed interface evolutions in a LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (NCM)/Li6PS5Cl/Li cell. Combining with ex situ characterizations including scanning electron microscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the evolution of the SCL and the chemical bond vibration at NCM/Li6PS5Cl interface during the early cycles is elaborated. It is found that the Li+ ion migration, which varies with the potential change, is a very significant cause of these interface behaviors. For the long‐term cycling, the SCL, interfacial reactions, lithium dendrites, and chemo‐mechanical failure have an integrated effect on interfaces, further deteriorating the interfacial structure and electrochemical performance. This research provides a new insight on intra and intercycle interfacial evolution of solid‐state batteries.  相似文献

Ceramic Li7La3Zr2O12 garnet materials are promising candidates for the electrolytes in solid state batteries due to their high conductivity and structural stability. In this paper, the existence of “polyamorphism” leading to various glass‐type phases for Li‐garnet structure besides the known crystalline ceramic ones is demonstrated. A maximum in Li‐conductivity exists depending on a frozen thermodynamic glass state, as exemplified for thin film processing, for which the local near range order and bonding unit arrangement differ. Through processing temperature change, the crystallization and evolution through various amorphous and biphasic amorphous/crystalline phase states can be followed for constant Li‐total concentration up to fully crystalline nanostructures. These findings reveal that glass‐type thin film Li‐garnet conductors exist for which polyamorphism can be used to tune the Li‐conductivity being potential new solid state electrolyte phases to avoid Li‐dendrite formation (no grain boundaries) for future microbatteries and large‐scale solid state batteries.  相似文献

Stable and seamless interfaces among solid components in all‐solid‐state batteries (ASSBs) are crucial for high ionic conductivity and high rate performance. This can be achieved by the combination of functional inorganic material and flexible polymer solid electrolyte. In this work, a flexible all‐solid‐state composite electrolyte is synthesized based on oxygen‐vacancy‐rich Ca‐doped CeO2 (Ca–CeO2) nanotube, lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI), and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), namely Ca–CeO2/LiTFSI/PEO. Ca–CeO2 nanotubes play a key role in enhancing the ionic conductivity and mechanical strength while the PEO offers flexibility and assures the stable seamless contact between the solid electrolyte and the electrodes in ASSBs. The as‐prepared electrolyte exhibits high ionic conductivity of 1.3 × 10?4 S cm?1 at 60 °C, a high lithium ion transference number of 0.453, and high‐voltage stability. More importantly, various electrochemical characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that Ca–CeO2 helps dissociate LiTFSI, produce free Li ions, and therefore enhance ionic conductivity. The ASSBs based on the as‐prepared Ca–CeO2/LiTFSI/PEO composite electrolyte deliver high‐rate capability and high‐voltage stability.  相似文献

Amongst post‐Li‐ion battery technologies, lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries have captured an immense interest as one of the most appealing devices from both the industrial and academia sectors. The replacement of conventional liquid electrolytes with solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) enables not only a safer use of Li metal (Li°) anodes but also a flexible design in the shape of Li–S batteries. However, the practical implementation of SPEs‐based all‐solid‐state Li–S batteries (ASSLSBs) is largely hindered by the shuttling effect of the polysulfide intermediates and the formation of dendritic Li° during the battery operation. Herein, a fluorine‐free noble salt anion, tricyanomethanide [C(CN)3?, TCM?], is proposed as a Li‐ion conducting salt for ASSLSBs. Compared to the widely used perfluorinated anions {e.g., bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide anion, [N(SO2CF3)2)]?, TFSI?}, the LiTCM‐based electrolytes show decent ionic conductivity, good thermal stability, and sufficient anodic stability suiting the cell chemistry of ASSLSBs. In particular, the fluorine‐free solid electrolyte interphase layer originating from the decomposition of LiTCM exhibits a good mechanical integrity and Li‐ion conductivity, which allows the LiTCM‐based Li–S cells to be cycled with good rate capability and Coulombic efficiency. The LiTCM‐based electrolytes are believed to be the most promising candidates for building cost‐effective and high energy density ASSLSBs in the near future.  相似文献

Herein, a composite polymer electrolyte with a viscoelastic and nonflammable interface is designed to handle the contact issue and preclude Li dendrite formation. The composite polymer electrolyte (cellulose acetate/polyethylene glycol/Li1.4Al0.4Ti1.6P3O12) exhibits a wide electrochemical window of 5 V (vs Li+/Li), a high Li+ transference number of 0.61, and an excellent ionic conductivity of above 10?4 S cm?1 at 60 °C. In particular, the intimate contact, low interfacial impedance, and fast ion‐transport process between the electrodes and solid electrolytes can be simultaneously achieved by the viscoelastic and nonflammable layer. Benefiting from this novel design, solid lithium metal batteries with either LiFePO4 or LiCoO2 as cathode exhibit superior cyclability and rate capability, such as a discharge capacity of 157 mA h g?1 after 100 cycles at C/2 and 97 mA h g?1 at 5C for LiFePO4 cathode. Moreover, the smooth and uniform Li surface after long‐term cycling confirms the successful suppression of dendrite formation. The viscoelastic and nonflammable interface modification of solid electrolytes provides a promising and general strategy to handle the interfacial issues and improves the operative safety of solid lithium metal batteries.  相似文献

Solid electrolytes represent a critical component in future batteries that provide higher energy and power densities than the current lithium‐ion batteries. The potential of using ultrathin films is among the best merits of solid electrolytes for considerably reducing the weight and volume of each battery unit, thereby significantly enhancing the energy density. However, it is challenging to fabricate ultrathin membranes of solid electrolytes using the conventional techniques. Here, a new strategy is reported for fabricating sub‐micrometer‐thick membranes of β‐Li3PS4 solid electrolytes via tiled assembly of shape‐controlled, nanoscale building blocks. This strategy relies on facile, low‐cost, solution‐based chemistry to create membranes with tunable thicknesses. The ultrathin membranes of β‐Li3PS4 show desirable ionic conductivity and necessary compatibility with metallic lithium anodes. The results of this study also highlight a viable strategy for creating ultrathin, dense solid electrolytes with high ionic conductivities for the next‐generation energy storage and conversion systems.  相似文献

Sulfide‐based solid‐state electrolytes (SSEs) for all‐solid‐state Li metal batteries (ASSLMBs) are attracting significant attention due to their high ionic conductivity, inherently soft properties, and decent mechanical strength. However, the poor incompatibility with Li metal and air sensitivity have hindered their application. Herein, the Sn (IV) substitution for P (V) in argyrodite sulfide Li6PS5I (LPSI) SSEs is reported, in the preparation of novel LPSI‐xSn SSEs (where x is the Sn substitution percentage). Appropriate aliovalent element substitutions with larger atomic radius (R<Sn> > R<P>) provides the optimized LPSI‐20Sn electrolyte with a 125 times higher ionic conductivity compared to that of the LPSI electrolyte. The high ionic conductivity of LPSI‐20Sn enables the rich I‐containing electrolyte to serve as a stabilized interlayer against Li metal in sulfide‐based ASSLMBs with outstanding cycling stability and rate capability. Most importantly, benefiting from the strong Sn–S bonding in Sn‐substituted electrolytes, the LPSI‐20Sn electrolyte shows excellent structural stability and improved air stability after exposure to O2 and moisture. The versatile Sn substitution in argyrodite LPSI electrolytes is believed to provide a new and effective strategy to achieve Li metal‐compatible and air‐stable sulfide‐based SSEs for large‐scale applications.  相似文献

Owing to the ever‐increasing safety concerns about conventional lithium‐ion batteries, whose applications have expanded to include electric vehicles and grid‐scale energy storage, batteries with solidified electrolytes that utilize nonflammable inorganic materials are attracting considerable attention. In particular, owing to their superionic conductivities (as high as ≈10?2 S cm?1) and deformability, sulfide materials as the solid electrolytes (SEs) are considered the enabling material for high‐energy bulk‐type all‐solid‐state batteries. Herein the authors provide a brief review on recent progress in sulfide Li‐ and Na‐ion SEs for all‐solid‐state batteries. After the basic principles in designing SEs are considered, the experimental exploration of multicomponent systems and ab initio calculations that accelerate the search for stronger candidates are discussed. Next, other issues and challenges that are critical for practical applications, such as instability in air, electrochemical stability, and compatibility with active materials, are discussed. Then, an emerging progress in liquid‐phase synthesis and solution process of SEs and its relevant prospects in ensuring intimate ionic contacts and fabricating sheet‐type electrodes is highlighted. Finally, an outlook on the future research directions for all‐solid‐state batteries employing sulfide superionic conductors is provided.  相似文献

Li‐halide hydroxides (Li2OHX) and Li‐oxyhalides (Li3OX) have emerged as new classes of low‐cost, lightweight solid state electrolytes (SSE) showing promising Li‐ion conductivities. The similarity in the lattice parameters between them, careless synthesis, and insufficient rigor in characterization often lead to erroneous interpretations of their compositions. Finally, moisture remaining in the synthesis or cell assembling environment and variability in the equivalent circuit models additionally contribute to significant errors in their properties. Thus, there remains a controversy about the real values of Li‐ion conductivities in such SSEs. Here an ultra‐fast synthesis and comprehensive material characterization is utilized to report on the ionic conductivities of contaminant‐free Li2+xOH1?xCl (x=0‐0.7), and Li2OHBr not exceeding 10‐4 S cm‐1 at 110 °C. Using powerful combination of experimental and numerical approaches, it is demonstrated that the presence of H in these SSEs yields significantly higher Li+ ‐ionic conductivity. Born‐Oppenheimer molecular dynamics simulations show excellent agreement with experimental results and reveal an unexpected mechanism for faster Li+ transport. It involves rotation of a short OH‐group in SSEs, which opens lower‐energy pathways for the formation of Frenkel defects and highly‐correlated Li+ jumps. These findings will reduce the existing confusions and show new avenues for tuning SSE compositions for further improved Li‐ion conductivities.  相似文献

Perovskite‐type solid‐state electrolytes exhibit great potential for the development of all‐solid‐state lithium batteries due to their high Li‐ion conductivity (approaching 10?3 S cm?1), wide potential window, and excellent thermal/chemical stability. However, the large solid–solid interfacial resistance between perovskite electrolytes and electrode materials is still a great challenge that hinders the development of high‐performance all‐solid‐state lithium batteries. In this work, a perovskite‐type Li0.34La0.51TiO3 (LLTO) membrane with vertically aligned microchannels is constructed by a phase‐inversion method. The 3D vertically aligned microchannel framework membrane enables more effective Li‐ion transport between the cathode and solid‐state electrolyte than a planar LLTO membrane. A significant decrease in the perovskite/cathode interfacial resistance, from 853 to 133 Ω cm2, is observed. It is also demonstrated that full cells utilizing LLTO with vertically aligned microchannels as the electrolyte exhibit a high specific capacity and improved rate performance.  相似文献
