Understanding defects in Cu(In,Ga)(Se,S)2 (CIGS), especially correlating changes in the film formation process with differences in material properties, photovoltaic (PV) device performance, and defect levels extracted from admittance spectroscopy, is a critical but challenging undertaking due to the complex nature of this polycrystalline compound semiconductor. Here we present a systematic comparative study wherein varying defect density levels in CIGS films were intentionally induced by growing CIGS grains using different selenium activity levels. Material characterization results by techniques including X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, secondary ion mass spectrometry, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and medium energy ion scattering indicate that this process variation, although not significantly affecting CIGS grain structure, crystal orientation, or bulk composition, leads to enhanced formation of a defective chalcopyrite layer with high density of indium or gallium at copper antisite defects ((In, Ga)Cu) near the CIGS surface, for CIGS films grown with insufficient selenium supply. This defective layer or the film growth conditions associated with it is further linked with observed current‐voltage characteristics, including rollover and crossover behavior, and a defect state at around 110 meV (generally denoted as the N1 defect) commonly observed in admittance spectroscopy. The impact of the (In, Ga)Cu defects on device PV performance is also established.  相似文献

By simultaneously subjecting microbial cells to high amplitude pulsed electric fields and flash heating of the cell suspension fluid, effective release of intracellular contents was achieved. The synergistic effect of the applied electric field and elevated temperature on cell lysis in a flow-through device was demonstrated for Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, and Mycobacterium species. The resulting lysate is suitable for downstream nucleic acid amplification and detection without requiring further preparation. The lysis chamber employs surface enhanced blocking electrodes which possess an etched micro-structured surface and a thin layer of dielectric metal oxide which provides a large effective area and blocks transmission of electrical current. The surface enhanced blocking electrodes enable simultaneous suppression of the rapid onset of electric field screening in the bulk of the cell suspension medium and avoidance of undesired electrochemical processes at the electrode-electrolyte interface. In addition the blocking layer ensures the robustness of the cell lysis device in applications involving prolonged flow-through processing of the microbial cells.  相似文献

Osteochondral defect management and repair remain a significant challenge in orthopedic surgery. Osteochondral defects contain damage to both the articular cartilage as well as the underlying subchondral bone. In order to repair an osteochondral defect the needs of the bone, cartilage and the bone-cartilage interface must be taken into account. Current clinical treatments for the repair of osteochondral defects have only been palliative, not curative. Tissue engineering has emerged as a potential alternative as it can be effectively used to regenerate bone, cartilage and the bone-cartilage interface. Several scaffold strategies, such as single phase, layered, and recently graded structures have been developed and evaluated for osteochondral defect repair. Also, as a potential cell source, tissue specific cells and progenitor cells are widely studied in cell culture models, as well with the osteochondral scaffolds in vitro and in vivo. Novel factor strategies being developed, including single factor, multi-factor, or controlled factor release in a graded fashion, not only assist bone and cartilage regeneration, but also establish osteochondral interface formation. The field of tissue engineering has made great strides, however further research needs to be carried out to make this strategy a clinical reality. In this review, we summarize current tissue engineering strategies, including scaffold design, bioreactor use, as well as cell and factor based approaches and recent developments for osteochondral defect repair. In addition, we discuss various challenges that need to be addressed in years to come.  相似文献

The mechanical environment around the healing of broken bone is very important as it determines the way the fracture will heal. Over the past decade there has been great clinical interest in improving bone healing by altering the mechanical environment through the fixation stability around the lesion. One constraint of preclinical animal research in this area is the lack of experimental control over the local mechanical environment within a large segmental defect as well as osteotomies as they heal. In this paper we report on the design and use of an external fixator to study the healing of large segmental bone defects or osteotomies. This device not only allows for controlled axial stiffness on the bone lesion as it heals, but it also enables the change of stiffness during the healing process in vivo. The conducted experiments have shown that the fixators were able to maintain a 5 mm femoral defect gap in rats in vivo during unrestricted cage activity for at least 8 weeks. Likewise, we observed no distortion or infections, including pin infections during the entire healing period. These results demonstrate that our newly developed external fixator was able to achieve reproducible and standardized stabilization, and the alteration of the mechanical environment of in vivo rat large bone defects and various size osteotomies. This confirms that the external fixation device is well suited for preclinical research investigations using a rat model in the field of bone regeneration and repair.  相似文献

Organic‐inorganic halide perovskite materials have become a shining star in the photovoltaic field due to their unique properties, such as high absorption coefficient, optimal bandgap, and high defect tolerance, which also lead to the breathtaking increase in power conversion efficiency from 3.8% to over 22% in just seven years. Although the highest efficiency was obtained from the TiO2 mesoporous structure, there are increasing studies focusing on the planar structure device due to its processibility for large‐scale production. In particular, the planar p‐i‐n structure has attracted increasing attention on account of its tremendous advantages in, among other things, eliminating hysteresis alongside a competitive certified efficiency of over 20%. Crucial for the device performance enhancement has been the interface engineering for the past few years, especially for such planar p‐i‐n devices. The interface engineering aims to optimize device properties, such as charge transfer, defect passivation, band alignment, etc. Herein, recent progress on the interface engineering of planar p‐i‐n structure devices is reviewed. This review is mainly focused on the interface design between each layer in p‐i‐n structure devices, as well as grain boundaries, which are the interfaces between polycrystalline perovskite domains. Promising research directions are also suggested for further improvements.  相似文献

The developmental gradients of six chimeric strains of hydra produced from a normal strain (105) and a regeneration-deficient strain (reg-16) were analyzed. The reg-16 mutant has been shown to have a lower gradient of head-activation potential and a higher gradient of head-inhibition potential than the normal 105 strain. The chimeric animals consisted of different combinations of the three self-renewing cell lineages found in hydra (the ectodermal and endodermal epithelial cell lineages and the interstitial cell lineage) from each of the parental origins. To identify the cell lineages responsible for the abnormal gradients in reg-16, the head-activation and head-inhibition potentials of these cell lineage chimeras were assayed by lateral transplantation of tissue. The results obtained have provided evidence which indicates that the defect responsible for the low head-activation potential in reg-16 resides in its ectodermal and endodermal epithelial cell lineages, whereas the defect responsible for its high head-inhibition potential resides in its endodermal epithelial and interstitial cell lineages. The cellular localization of these defects is not identical but very similar to the cellular localization of the regenerative defects in reg-16. This finding is consistent with and supports the view that the abnormalities of the developmental gradients are correlated to the reduced head regenerative capacity in reg-16.  相似文献

The recent rapid increase in efficiency of organic–inorganic perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has resulted in a need to develop a clear understanding of their stability and working mechanisms. In particular, it has been suggested that ion migration contributes to the commonly observed hysteresis in the current–voltage measurements of PSCs, but the rate of ion migration and its effects on the electronic properties of PSCs remain to be addressed. In this work, electron‐beam‐induced current (EBIC) is used to directly map changes in local current extraction in organic–inorganic PSCs under applied voltage. By combining EBIC mapping, standard current–voltage measurements, and external quantum efficiency measurements, it is shown that between the two potential roles that point defects play in device enhancement under voltage biasing, the effects caused by defect‐mediated ion migration outweigh the effects from the filling of trap states caused by these defects. Evidence is also provided for ion migration preferentially at local features such as extended defects. The measured timescale of tens of seconds for migration across a full device imply that ion migration contributes indirectly to the electronic capacitance of perovskite devices through interface charging.  相似文献

Cells within connective tissues are routinely subjected to a wide range of non-uniform mechanical loads that regulate many cell behaviors. In the present study, the relationship between cell orientation angle and strain value of the membrane was comprehensively investigated using an inhomogeneous strain field. Additionally, the cellular axial strain threshold, which corresponds to the launching of cell reorientation response, was elucidated. Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were used for these experiments. In this study, an inhomogeneous strain distribution was easily created by removing one side holes of an elastic chamber in a commonly used uniaxial stretching device. The strains of 2D stretched membranes were quantified on a position-by-position basis using the digital image correlation method. The normal strain in the direction of stretch was changed continuously from 2.0 to 15.0 %. A 3D histogram of the cell frequency, which was correlated with the cell orientation angle and normal strain of the membrane, made it possible to determine the axial strain threshold accurately. The value of the axial strain threshold was 4.4 ± 0.3 %, which was reasonable compared with previous studies based on cyclic uniaxial stretch stimulation (homogeneous strain field). Additionally, preferential axial strain of cells, which was a cell property firstly introduced, was also achieved and the value was ?2.0 ± 0.1 %. This study is novel in three respects: (i) it precisely and easily determined the axial strain threshold of cells; (ii) it is the first to suggest preferential axial strain of cells; and (iii) it methodically investigated cell behavior in an inhomogeneous strain field.  相似文献

The efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is hindered by substantial defects within the grain boundaries (GBs) of polycrystalline perovskite films. Conventional post-treatment strategies struggle to precisely repair these defects at GBs. Here, a targeted grain boundary passivation strategy through solvent effects by incorporating symmetrical biphenyl molecules is proposed, 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS) and 4,4′-sulfodiphenol (SDP), aiming to mitigate defects at GBs and optimize energy level arrangements through their electric dipole effects. Compared to the pristine device, the SDP-modified device exhibits significant improvements, including a champion efficiency of 24.39% and an impressive fill factor, along with excellent operation stability. This work provides an effective and straightforward solution for improving the performance of PSCs.  相似文献

Hard carbon is regarded as the most promising anode material for commercialization of Na ion batteries because of its high capacity and low cost. At present, the practical utilization of hard carbon anodes is largely limited by the low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE). Na ions have been found to adopt an adsorption–insertion storage mechanism. In this paper a systematic way to control the defect concentration and porosity of hard carbon with similar overall architectures is shown. This study elucidates that the defects in the graphite layers are directly related to the ICE as they would trap Na ions and create a repulsive electric field for other Na ions so as to shorten the low‐voltage intercalation capacity. The obtained low defect and porosity hard carbon electrode has achieved the highest ICE of 86.1% (94.5% for pure hard carbon material by subtracting that of the conductive carbon black), reversible capacity of 361 mA h g?1, and excellent cycle stability (93.4% of capacity retention over 100 cycles). This result sheds light on feasible design principles for high performance Na storage hard carbon: suitable carbon layer distance and defect free graphitic layers.  相似文献

To analyse mechanotransduction resulting from tensile loading under defined conditions, various devices for in vitro cell stimulation have been developed. This work aimed to determine the strain distribution on the membrane of a commercially available device and its consistency with rising cycle numbers, as well as the amount of strain transferred to adherent cells. The strains and their behaviour within the stimulation device were determined using digital image correlation (DIC). The strain transferred to cells was measured on eGFP-transfected bone marrow-derived cells imaged with a fluorescence microscope. The analysis was performed by determining the coordinates of prominent positions on the cells, calculating vectors between the coordinates and their length changes with increasing applied tensile strain. The stimulation device was found to apply homogeneous (mean of standard deviations approx. 2% of mean strain) and reproducible strains in the central well area. However, on average, only half of the applied strain was transferred to the bone marrow-derived cells. Furthermore, the strain measured within the device increased significantly with an increasing number of cycles while the membrane's Young's modulus decreased, indicating permanent changes in the material during extended use. Thus, strain magnitudes do not match the system readout and results require careful interpretation, especially at high cycle numbers.  相似文献

All‐inorganic CsPbBrI2 perovskite has great advantages in terms of ambient phase stability and suitable band gap (1.91 eV) for photovoltaic applications. However, the typically used structure causes reduced device performance, primarily due to the large recombination at the interface between the perovskite, and the hole‐extraction layer (HEL). In this paper, an efficient CsPbBrI2 perovskite solar cell (PSC) with a dimensionally graded heterojunction is reported, in which the CsPbBrI2 material is distributed within bulk–nanosheet–quantum dots or 3D–2D–0D dimension‐profiled interface structure so that the energy alignment is optimized in between the valence and conduction bands of both CsPbBrI2 and the HEL layers. Specifically, the valence‐/conduction‐band edge is leveraged to bend with synergistic advantages: the graded combination enhances the hole extraction and conduction efficiency with effectively decreased recombination loss during the hole‐transfer process, leading to an enhanced built‐in electric field, hence a high VOC of as much as 1.19 V. The profiled structure induces continuously upshifted energy levels, resulting in a higher JSC of as much as 12.93 mA cm?2 and fill factor as high as 80.5%, and therefore record power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 12.39%. As far as it is known, this is the highest PCE for CsPbBrI2 perovskite‐based PSC.  相似文献

Zinc oxide (ZnO) is an attractive material for many electro-optical applications, but the control of impurities remains an issue in device fabrication. For this paper, the dynamics of defect states produced by annealing ZnO thin films at temperatures of 400–800 °C were probed by band-edge pump-probe spectroscopy in differential reflection and transmission. The distinction between the differential reflection and transmission spectra allowed for the analysis of ultrafast near-interface dynamics, which cannot be separated from the bulk thin-film dynamics by traditional ultrafast spectroscopies. In particular, simultaneous differential reflection and transmission spectroscopy provided clear evidence that the band-edge recombination dynamics in samples annealed at 400 °C were absent near the ZnO/substrate interface. However, the Purcell enhancement observed in Ag/ZnO heterostructures resulted in the dramatic emergence of the band-edge recombination signal nearly two orders of magnitude greater in intensity than the defect differential reflectivity. This indicates that the spatial range of the Purcell effect is at least twice as large as inferred from previous photoluminescence studies.  相似文献

A PC has been programmed to control more than one pulsed fieldelectrophoresis device (e.g. clamped homogeneous electric field,CHEF; field inversion gel electrophoresis, FIGE). Each deviceis assumed to have a field controller requiring signals to (i)switch the field on/off, (ii) re-orient the field and (iii)invert the field. An interface between the computer parallelport and up to four devices is suggested and this was builtfrom stan dard TTL logic and optical couplers. Software hasbeen written to drive all four devices in parallel. Each pulsedfield device may have a totally independent pulse regime, maybe stopped or started at random and may be monitored at anytime during an experiment. Setting up and running each deviceis almost entirely by mouse control and frequently used pulseregimes may be saved and rapidly retrieved from hard or floppydisk. The software can be configured for any combination ofCHEF and FIGE devices.  相似文献

Although planar‐structured perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have power conversion efficiencies exceeding 24%, the poor photostability, especially with ultraviolet irradiance (UV) severely limits commercial application. The most commonly‐used TiO2 electron selective layer has a strong photocatalytic effect on perovskite/TiO2 interface when TiO2 is excited by UV light. Here a UV‐inert ZnTiO3 is reported as the electron selective layer in planar PSCs. ZnTiO3 is a perovskite‐structured semiconductor with excellent chemical stability and poor photocatalysis. Solar cells are fabricated with a structure of indium doped tin oxide (ITO)/ZnTiO3/Cs0.05FA0.81MA0.14PbI2.55Br0.45/Sprio‐MeOTAD/Au. The champion device exhibits a stabilized power conversion efficiency of 19.8% with improved photostability. The device holds 90% of its initial efficiency after 100 h of UV soaking (365 nm, 8 mW cm?2), compared with 55% for TiO2‐based devices. This work provides a new class of electron selective materials with excellent UV stability in perovskite solar cell applications.  相似文献

The performance of perovskite solar cells is sensitive to detrimental defects, which are prone to accumulate at the interfaces and grain boundaries of bulk perovskite films. Defect passivation at each region will lead to reduced trap density and thus less nonradiative recombination loss. However, it is challenging to passivate defects at both the grain boundaries and the bottom charge transport layer/perovskite interface, mainly due to the solvent incompatibility and complexity in perovskite formation. Here SnO2‐KCl composite electron transport layer (ETL) is utilized in planar perovskite solar cells to simultaneously passivate the defects at the ETL/perovskite interface and the grain boundaries of perovskite film. The K and Cl ions at the ETL/perovskite interface passivate the ETL/perovskite contact. Meanwhile, K ions from the ETL can diffuse through the perovskite film and passivate the grain boundaries. An enhancement of open‐circuit voltage from 1.077 to 1.137 V and a corresponding power conversion efficiency increasing from 20.2% to 22.2% are achieved for the devices using SnO2‐KCl composite ETL. The composite ETL strategy reported herein provides an avenue for defect passivation to further increase the efficiency of perovskite solar cells.  相似文献

The energetics of cell-cell and cell-substrate interactions has been analyzed in terms of the lyophobic colloid stability theory adapted to biological conditions. Some important differences that exist between lyophobic particles and living cells are recognized and taken into account. The protein-aceous coat exterior to the lipid cell membrane (glycocalyx) is treated as a very thick Stern layer which has a constant electric capacitance. The cell itself is viewed as a fluid droplet due to the semi-fluid state of the cell membrane, and its outer boundary is assumed to have a constant electric charge density. When particles with constant surface charge density interact, their surface potential increases. Then the potential at the lipid-protein interface will also increase, hence the interfacial tension should decrease. The magnitude of the interfacial tension change at the lipid-protein interface occurring during the interaction of cells has been calculated for various thicknesses of the glycocalyx. This term, obtained for cells with a relatively thin proteinaceous coat, was found to dominate the energy balance, making the total energy of interaction negative.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the stability of protein formulations using a device designed to generate defined, quantifiable levels of shear in the presence of a solid-liquid interface. The device, based on a rotating disk, produced shear strain rates of up to 3.4 x 10(4) s(-1) (at 250 rps) and was designed to exclude air-liquid interfaces and enable temperature to be controlled. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to study the fluid flow patterns within the device and to determine the shear strain rate (s(-1)) at a range of disk speeds. The device was then used to study the effect on a monoclonal IgG4 of high levels of shear at the solid-liquid interface. Monomeric antibody concentration and aggregation of the protein in solution were monitored by gel permeation HPLC and turbidity at 350 nm. High shear strain rates were found to cause significant levels of protein aggregation and precipitation with reduction of protein monomer following first-order kinetics. Monomer reduction rate was determined for a range of disk speeds and found to have a nonlinear relationship with shear strain rate, indicating the importance of identifying and minimizing such environments during processing.  相似文献

Eukaryotic cells contain many actin-interacting proteins, including the alpha-actinins and the fimbrins, both of which have actin cross-linking activity in vitro. We report here the identification and characterization of both an alpha-actinin-like protein (Ain1p) and a fimbrin (Fim1p) in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Ain1p localizes to the actomyosin-containing medial ring in an F-actin-dependent manner, and the Ain1p ring contracts during cytokinesis. ain1 deletion cells have no obvious defects under normal growth conditions but display severe cytokinesis defects, associated with defects in medial-ring and septum formation, under certain stress conditions. Overexpression of Ain1p also causes cytokinesis defects, and the ain1 deletion shows synthetic effects with other mutations known to affect medial-ring positioning and/or organization. Fim1p localizes both to the cortical actin patches and to the medial ring in an F-actin-dependent manner, and several lines of evidence suggest that Fim1p is involved in polarization of the actin cytoskeleton. Although a fim1 deletion strain has no detectable defect in cytokinesis, overexpression of Fim1p causes a lethal cytokinesis defect associated with a failure to form the medial ring and concentrate actin patches at the cell middle. Moreover, an ain1 fim1 double mutant has a synthetical-lethal defect in medial-ring assembly and cell division. Thus, Ain1p and Fim1p appear to have an overlapping and essential function in fission yeast cytokinesis. In addition, protein-localization and mutant-phenotype data suggest that Fim1p, but not Ain1p, plays important roles in mating and in spore formation.  相似文献

To realize efficient photoconversion in organic semiconductors, photogenerated excitons must be dissociated into their constituent electronic charges. In an organic photovoltaic (OPV) cell, this is most often accomplished using an electron donor–acceptor (D–A) interface. Interestingly, recent work on MoOx/C60 Schottky OPVs has demonstrated that excitons in C60 may also undergo efficient bulk‐ionization and generate photocurrent as a result of the large built‐in field created by the MoOx/C60 interface. Here, it is demonstrated that bulk ionization processes also contribute to the short‐circuit current density (JSC) and open‐circuit voltage (VOC) in bulk heterojunction (BHJ) OPVs with fullerene‐rich compositions. Temperature‐dependent measurements of device performance are used to distinguish dissociation by bulk‐ionization from charge transfer at the D–A interface. In optimized fullerene‐rich BHJs based on the D–A pairing of boron subphthalocyanine chloride (SubPc)–C60, bulk‐ionization is found to be responsible for ≈16% of the total photocurrent, and >30% of the photocurrent originating from C60. The presence of bulk‐ionization in C60 also impacts the temperature dependence of VOC, with fullerene‐rich SubPc:C60 BHJ OPVs showing a larger VOC than evenly mixed BHJs. The prevalence of bulk‐ionization processes in efficient, fullerene‐rich BHJs underscores the need to include these effects when engineering device design and morphology in OPVs.  相似文献
