Mark and recapture experiments were used to estimate the size-at-age relationship of the coral-eating gastropod Drupella cornus at Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia. Animals 15 mm long increased in length by 5.2 mm in six months at a site in an early stage of an outbreak, but by only 3.8 mm at a site within an established outbreak. Snails larger than 35 mm grew very little. Based on observed growth rates fitted to a Richards function growth equation, snails 28 mm long judged to be reproductively mature would be 2.5 to 3.5 years old, suggesting that local outbreaks represent no more than one or two generations of recruits. Indirect evidence indicates that growth is more rapid in the earlier than in later stages of outbreaking populations. The growth and timing of life-history transitions of D. cornus are not unusual among other muricid species.  相似文献

The corallivorous gastropod Drupella has been responsible for extensive coral mortality on a number of reefs in the Indo-West Pacific region. Seasonal and spatial variability in the abundance of juvenile (<2.0 cm shell length) and adult (>2.0 cm) Drupella cornus along the Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia, were documented during 1990/1991. Numbers of D. cornus were found to vary significantly between the different sites and reef habitats sampled, with the highest numbers recorded at a backreef edge site at the southern end of the reef. There was no evidence that the densities of D. cornus varied seasonally, although size-frequency distributions suggest that there may have been a recruitment peak in January/February 1991 following a major spawning event in November/December 1990. Drupella cornus were found predominantly on Acropora species with a caespitose/corymbose growth form; however the abundance of these corals at different sites did not explain the observed distribution patterns of the gastropod. Drupella cornus recruits (<1.0 cm shell length) frequently occurred on corals which were also occupied by larger conspecifics, suggesting that either larval settlement or post-settlement survival were increased in the presence of adult D. cornus.  相似文献

Seven populations of the crown-of-thorns starfish, Acanthaster planci, were compared genetically using starch gel electrophoresis in order to investigate the extent of genetic exchange throughout the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) region. These populations extended from Lizard Island in the north to One Tree Island in the south, a distance of approximately 1300 km. Thirteen of 36 enzymes assayed were genetically interpretable, and 10 (77%) of these were polymorphic. Mean heterozygosity over all loci was 0.225. An analysis of the gene frequency heterogeneity between the populations using Wright's F ST statistic gave an overall F ST of 0.019. The mean unbiased value of Nei's genetic distance between the populations was 0.009. These values indicate a homogeneous genetic composition throughout the range, and are consistent with the hypothesis that gene flow between these populations is high, and that A. planci throughout the GBR region are members of a single, effectively panmictic population. Within this group, the Green Island population was most distinct genetically because of differences in allele frequencies at the MDH-1 locus. Although there is no rigorous method for determining the selective basis for such differences, it is argued that the differences observed in the Green Island population were the result of selection. The basis for selective differences was possibly food availability since, at the time of sampling, the Green Island A. planci were the remnants of a large, high-density population that caused extensive coral mortality, and suffered severe population decline as food became scarce. These findings are consistent with observations of a relatively ordered sequence of outbreaks from north to south along the GBR, suggesting that all outbreaks but the first are secondary. Control measures, both on the GBR and elsewhere, have been unsuccessful except on a very small scale. Unless a vulnerable part of the A. planci life cycle can be identified, it would seem that the greatest chance for successful control would be to identify and control the causes of the primary population outbreak.  相似文献

Phasianids are considered to be sedentary birds with limited dispersal so that populations may be expected to show genetic isolation by distance. To test this, we examined genetic variability in 618 greywing francolins (Francolinus africanus) at 24 localities over a 1,500 km2 area. We subdivided the samples to measure genetic population structure among localities separated by 6–60 km, and among coveys separated by 0.1–6 km. Thirteen of 30 (43%) allozyme loci were polymorphic, and heterozygosity ranged from 5.3 to 8.5% over 24 localities and averaged 7.0%, a value much larger than that found for other phasianids. Significant allele-frequency heterogeneity was detected among localities and among coveys at several localities for several loci. Mantel's test, however, showed that there was no correlation between geographical distance and the allele-frequency difference between localities for all but one allele. Although spatial autocorrelation was detected with Moran's I and Geary's c for two alleles, the geographical patterns of I in correlograms of 18 independent alleles showed a “crazy-quilt” pattern of allele-frequency patches. This shows that the isolation-by-distance model of subpopulation structure is inappropriate for these birds. Individuals, therefore, appear to disperse far beyond neighboring populations. “Private-allele” and FST estimates of migration under the island model were 8–9 individuals between localities of each generation. Allele-frequency heterogeneity, large amounts of gene flow, and the general lack of spatial autocorrelation imply that the small, socially-structured populations of greywing are subject to high rates of turnover, founder effects, and random drift.  相似文献

Given the recent interest in declining amphibian populations, it is surprising that there are so few data on genetic drift and gene flow in anuran species. We used seven microsatellite loci to investigate genetic structure and diversity at both large and small geographic scales, and to estimate gene flow in the Cascades frog, Rana cascadae. We sampled 18 sites in a hierarchical design (inter-population distances ranging from 1–670 km) to test for isolation by distance and to determine the geographic scale over which substantial gene flow occurs. Eleven of these sites were sampled as three fine-scale clusters of three, three, and five sites separated by pairwise distances of 1–23 km to estimate number of migrants exchanged per generation via F ST and by a coalescent approach. We found R. cascadae exhibits a strong pattern of isolation by distance over the entire species range, and that there is a sharp drop in migrants exchanged between sites separated by greater than 10 km. These data, in conjunction with results of other recent studies, suggest that montane habitats promote unusually strong genetic isolation among frog populations. We discuss our results in light of future management and conservation of R. cascadae.  相似文献

The genetic structure of eulachon (Thaleichthys pacificus) populations was examined in an analysis of variation of 14 microsatellite loci representing approximately 1900 fish from 9 sites between the Columbia River and Cook Inlet, Alaska. Significant genetic differentiation occurred among the putative populations. The mean FST for all loci was 0.0046, and there was a significant correlation between population genetic differentiation (FST) and geographic distance. Simulated mixed-stock samples comprising populations from different regions suggested that variation at microsatellite loci provided reasonably accurate estimates of stock composition for potential fishery samples. Marine sampling indicated that immature eulachons from different rivers, during the 2 to 3 years of prespawning life in offshore marine waters, do not mix thoroughly. For eulachons captured incidentally in offshore trawl fisheries, there was a clear geographic cline in relative abundance of eulachons from different geographic areas. The sample from northern British Columbia was dominated by northern and central coastal populations of British Columbia, the sample from central British Columbia was composed of eulachons from all regions, and the sample from southern British Columbia was dominated by Columbia River and Fraser River populations. These results have implications for the management of trawl fisheries and conservation of spawning populations in some rivers where abundance is at historically low levels.  相似文献

Gene frequency data from samples of Gambusia affinis populations at 76 localities across the Savannah River drainage were used to investigate temporal and spatial patterns in population genetic structure. Localities in the Par Pond system on the Savannah River Plant were sampled in 1971, 1977, and 1979. Allelic frequencies in these populations were generally stable through time, although significant temporal changes were observed among samples from Pond C, an impoundment receiving thermal effluent. Significant spatial heterogeneity in allele frequencies was observed on both microgeographic and regional scales. Populations within the Par Pond system were spatially subdivided at four of the five loci surveyed (mean FST = 0.051). Subdivision was even more pronounced when samples from across the Savannah River drainage were compared (mean FST = 0.196). A hierarchial analysis of gene diversity (GST) demonstrated that most of the genic diversity across the drainage exists as within-subdivision diversity. Even when populations from such contrasting habitats as rivers, creeks, ponds, and reservoirs are compared, an average of only 13% of the total gene diversity was attributed to between-group diversity. Greatest between-group gene diversity was observed when reservoirs were compared with one another. This general pattern of low between-habitat diversity suggests that differential selection pressures are not playing a major role in producing the observed levels of subdivision. In the Par Pond system, neither single locus nor multilocus genetic distances were significantly associated with geographic distance or with its reciprocal. For samples from over the Savannah River drainage, significant correlations between genetic and geographic distance were observed only for the Gpi-2 and Pgm-2 loci. Thus, there was a general lack of concordance between genetic and geographic distances. Spatial autocorrelation demonstrated patterns consistent with Wright's isolation by distance model. Significant positive correlations in allelic frequencies among neighboring populations were observed for five of six alleles; allelic frequencies in more distantly separated populations were typically not correlated.  相似文献

Abstract: Fishers (Martes pennanti) were extirpated from much of southern Ontario, Canada, prior to the 1950s. We hypothesised that the recent recolonization of this area originated from an expansion of the population in Algonquin Provincial Park, which historically served as a refuge for fishers. To test this hypothesis, we created a sampling lattice to encompass Algonquin and the surrounding area, and we collected contemporaneous DNA samples. We sampled fishers from each of 35 sites and genotyped them at 16 microsatellite loci. Using a Bayesian assignment approach, with no a priori geographic information, we inferred 5 discrete genetic populations and used genetic population assignment as a means to cluster sites together. We concluded that the Algonquin Park fisher population has not been a substantial source for recolonization and expansion, which has instead occurred from a number of remnant populations within Ontario, Quebec, and most recently from the Adirondacks in New York, USA. The genetic structure among sampling sites across the entire area revealed a pattern of isolation-by-distance (IBD). However, an examination of the distribution of genetic structure (FST/1- FST) at different distances showed higher rates of gene flow than predicted under a strict IBD model at small distances (40 km) within clusters and at larger distances up to 100 km among clusters. This pattern of genetic structure suggests increased migration and gene flow among expanding reproductive fronts.  相似文献

We investigated genetic variation at six microsatellite (simple sequence repeat) loci in yellow baboons (Papio hamadryas cynocephalus) at two localities: the Tana River Primate Reserve in eastern Kenya and Mikumi National Park, central Tanzania. The six loci (D1S158, D2S144, D4S243, D5S1466, D16S508, and D17S804) were all originally cloned from and characterized in the human genome. These microsatellites are polymorphic in both baboon populations, with the average heterozygosity across loci equal to 0.731 in the Tana River sample and 0.787 in the Mikumi sample. The genetic differentiation between the two populations is substantial. Kolmogornov–Smirnov tests indicate that five of the six loci are significantly different in allele frequencies in the two populations. The mean F ST across loci is 0.069, and Shriver's measure of genetic distance, which was developed for microsatellite loci (Shriver et al., 1995), is 0.255. This genetic distance is larger than corresponding distances among human populations residing in different continents. We conclude that (a) the arrays of alleles present at these six microsatellite loci in two geographically separated populations of yellow baboons are quite similar, but (b) the two populations exhibit significant differences in allele frequencies. This study illustrates the potential value of human microsatellite loci for analyses of population genetic structure in baboons and suggests that this approach will be useful in studies of other Old World monkeys.  相似文献

Termite alates are thought to be poor active flyers, and this should lead to considerable genetic differentiation on small spatial scales. However, using four microsatellite loci for the termite Macrotermes michaelseni we found low values of genetic differentiation (FST) across a spatial scale of even more than 50 km. Genetic differentiation between populations increased with spatial distance up to 50 km. Furthermore, up to this distance, the scatter around the linear regression of genetic differentiation versus spatial distance increased with spatial distance. This suggests that across such spatial distances gene flow and genetic drift are of about equal importance, and near equilibrium. Using a regional FST as well as the distance between populations with non-significant FST-values (up to 25 km), gene flow is sufficiently high so that populations may be regarded as panmictic on spatial scales of 25 to 50 km. The apparent contradiction between dispersal distances observed in the field and estimates of gene flow from genetic markers may be due to the masses of swarming alates. Assuming a leptokurtic distribution of dispersal distances, atleast some alates are expected to travel considerable distances, most likely by passive drift. Allozyme genetic variability in three chestnut (Castanea) species was investigated using 19 loci from ten enzyme systems. G-tests of heterogeneity of isozymic allele distribution showed significant differences between the three species at 15 of the 19 loci, and between the 13 C. mollissima populations at 13 of the 19 loci examined. C. mollissima was found to possess a significantly-higher value of mean gene heterozygosity (H=0.3050±0.0419), the percentage of polymorphic loci (P=84.21%) and the average number of alleles per locus (A=2.05), than any other species in the Castanea section Eucastanon. When the genetic variability of populations of C. mollissima from four regions in China was investigated, the population from the Changjiang river region showed a markedly higher mean gene heterozygosity (H=0.3480±0.0436) than populations from the other regions. Genetic relationships among the four regions were assessed by Nei's genetic identity I and standard genetic distance D. An approximately-identical distance between the population from the Changjiang river region and populations from the three other regions was observed, while populations from the latter regions showed almost the same genetic distance from each other. These data, when considered with information existing prior to this study, contribute to an understanding of the possible origin and progenitor of the chestnut species.  相似文献

The genetic structure of three metapopulations of the southern African anostracan Branchipodopsis wolfi was compared by analysing allozyme variation at four loci (PGM, GPI, APK, AAT). In total, 17 local populations from three sites (metapopulations) were analysed from rock pools in south-eastern Botswana ranging from 0.2 to 21 m2 in surface area. In three populations we found significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg (H-W) equilibrium at one or more loci due to heterozygote deficiencies. Genetic variability at one site was significantly lower than at the other sites, which may be linked to a greater incidence of extinction and recolonisation, as the basins at this site are shallower and have shorter hydrocycles. Across all local populations, a significant level of population differentiation was revealed. More than 90% of this variation was explained by differentiation among sites (metapopulations), although this differentiation did not correlate with geographic distance, or with environmental variables. Genetic differentiation among populations within metapopulations was low, but significant at all sites. At only one of the sites was a significantly positive association measured between genetic and geographic distance among local populations. Our data suggest that persistent stochastic events and limited effective long-range dispersal appear to dominate genetic differentiation among populations of B. wolfi inhabiting desert rock pools. The lack of association between geographic distance and genetic or ecological differences between rock pool sites is indicative of historical stochastic events. Low heterozygosity, the significant deviations from H-W equilibrium, and the large inter- but low intra-site differentiation are suggestive of the importance of short-range dispersal. Gene flow between metapopulations of B. wolfi appears to be seriously constrained by distances of 2 km or even less. Received: 28 June 1999 / Accepted: 10 January 2000  相似文献

The population genetic structure of the Anopheles gambiae in western Kenya was studied using length variation at five microsatellite loci and sequence variation in a 648-nt mtDNA fragment. Mosquitoes were collected from houses in villages spanning up to 50 km distance, The following questions were answered, (i) Are mosquitoes in a house more related genetically to each other than mosquitoes between houses? (ii) What degree of genetic differentiation occurs on these geographical scales? (iii) How consistent are the results obtained with both types of genetic markers? At the house level, no differentiation was detected by FST and RST, and the band sharing index test revealed no significant associations of alleles across loci. Likewise, indices of kinship based on mtDNA haplotypes in houses were even lower than in the pooled sample. Therefore, the hypothesis that mosquitoes in a house are more related genetically was rejected. At increasing geographical scales, microsatellite allele distributions were similar among all population samples and no subdivision of the gene pool was detected by FST or RST. Likewise, estimates of haplotype divergence of mtDNA between populations were not higher than the within population estimates, and mtDNA-based FST values were not significantly different from zero. That sequence variation in mtDNA provided matching results with microsatellite loci (while high genetic variation was observed in all loci), suggested that this pattern represents the whole genome. The minimum area associated with a deme of A. gambiae in western Kenya is therefore larger than 50 km in diameter.  相似文献

Distance and discrete geographic barriers play a role in isolating populations, as seed and pollen dispersal become limited. Nearby populations without any geographic barrier between them may also suffer from ecological isolation driven by habitat heterogeneity, which may promote divergence by local adaptation and drift. Likewise, elevation gradients may influence the genetic structure and diversity of populations, particularly those marginally distributed. Bathysa australis (Rubiaceae) is a widespread tree along the elevation gradient of the Serra do Mar, SE Brazil. This self‐compatible species is pollinated by bees and wasps and has autochoric seeds, suggesting restricted gene dispersal. We investigated the distribution of genetic diversity in six B. australis populations at two extreme sites along an elevation gradient: a lowland site (80–216 m) and an upland site (1010–1100 m.a.s.l.). Nine microsatellite loci were used to test for genetic structure and to verify differences in genetic diversity between sites. We found a marked genetic structure on a scale as small as 6 km (FST = 0.21), and two distinct clusters were identified, each corresponding to a site. Although B. australis is continuously distributed along the elevation gradient, we have not observed a gene flow between the extreme populations. This might be related to B. australis biological features and creates a potential scenario for adaptation to the different conditions imposed by the elevation gradient. We failed to find an isolation‐by‐distance pattern; although on the fine scale, all populations showed spatial autocorrelation until ~10‐20 m. Elevation difference was a relevant factor though, but we need further sampling effort to check its correlation with genetic distance. The lowland populations had a higher allelic richness and showed higher rare allele counts than the upland ones. The upland site may be more selective, eliminating rare alleles, as we did not find any evidence for bottleneck.  相似文献

The reproductive composition and genetic diversity of populations of the red seaweed Lithothrix aspergillum Gray (O. Corallinales) were studied at three southern California sites (Shaw's Cove and Treasure Island, Laguna Beach; Indian Rock, Santa Catalina Island) and at a fourth site (Bodega Bay) located in northern California. Sexually reproducing populations were confined to southern California. Diploid individuals were numerically dominant over haploid (gametophytic) individuals at all sites. Intertidal and subtidal subpopulations from Shaw's Cove differed in their reproductive profiles. Most intertidal specimens found on emersed surfaces were densely branched, turf-forming, and bore tetrasporangial (68.6%), carposporangial (11.4%), or spermatangial (5.7%) conceptacles, reflecting a sexual life history; none produced asexual bispores. In contrast, 74.3% of the larger, loosely branched subtidal specimens bore bisporangial conceptacles indicative of asexual reproduction. Nearly 70% of the Indian Rock thalli showed no evidence of conceptacle formation. Only asexual, diploid bispore-producing thalli were obtained from the Bodega Bay site. Genetic diversity (mean number of alleles per locus, percent of polymorphic loci, and average expected heterozygosity) of diploid L. aspergillum populations varied with life-history characteristics and geographic location. A total of 30 alleles was inferred from zymograms of 16 loci examined by starch-gel electrophoresis; of these loci, 11 were polymorphic. The genetic diversity of sexual, diploid populations of L. aspergillum (alleles per locus [A/L] = 1.4-1.5; percent polymorphic loci [%P] = 37.5-50.0) was relatively high compared with other red seaweeds. Lowest diversity (A/L = 1.0; %P = 0.0) occurred in the exclusively asexual Bodega Bay population which consisted of genetic clones. All sexual L. aspergillum populations deviated significantly from Hardy-Wein-berg expectations due to lower than expected heterozygosity. Genetic differentiation (Wright's Fstatistic [FST]; Nei's Genetic Distance [D]) among sexually reproducing southern California populations was low (FST= 0.030) on a local scale (ca. 5 km), suggesting high levels of gene flow, but high genetic differention (FST= 0.390 and 0.406) occurred among southern California populations separated by ca. 70 km. Very high genetic differentiation (FST= 0.583–0.683) was obtained between northern and southern California populations separated by 700–760 km. Our genetic and reproductive data suggest that the L. aspergillum population from Bodega Bay is sustained by perennation, vegetative propagation, or asexual reproduction by bispores and may represent an isolated remnant or a population established by a founder event.  相似文献

In order to test the potential ecological role of the Siculo-Tunisian Strait as a geographic barrier, the morphological and genetic variation of eight Tunisian samples of the sharpsnout seabream, Diplodus puntazzo, were studied, based on 23 truss network elements and 13 polymorphic allozyme loci. Significant morphological differences were observed between studied samples, especially between lagoon ones. Although genetic data did not support the detected morphometric variation, F-statistics indices (FIS and FST) revealed a significant departure from panmixia with heterozygote deficiencies and slight genetic differentiation between samples. Genetic results suggested the existence of moderate and local genetic heterogeneity that can be explained by the chaotic genetic patchiness hypothesis. Morphological and genetic results showed that the Siculo-Tunisian Strait does not seem to act as a barrier limiting the connectivity between the natural populations of D. puntazzo, at least at the scale of the Tunisian coast. Thus, the phenotypic variation identified in this study appears to be environmentally induced through the exploitation of different ecological niches and hydrodynamic constraints.  相似文献

Remote populations are predicted to be vulnerable owing to their isolation from potential source reefs, and usually low population size and associated increased extinction risk. We investigated genetic diversity, population subdivision and connectivity in the brooding reef coral Seriatopora hystrix at the limits of its Eastern Australian (EA) distribution and three sites in the southern Great Barrier Reef (GBR). Over the approximately 1270 km survey range, high levels of population subdivision were detected (global FST = 0.224), with the greatest range in pairwise FST values observed among the three southernmost locations: Lord Howe Island, Elizabeth Reef and Middleton Reef. Flinders Reef, located between the GBR and the more southerly offshore reefs, was highly isolated and showed the signature of a recent bottleneck. High pairwise FST values and the presence of multiple genetic clusters indicate that EA subtropical coral populations have been historically isolated from each other and the GBR. One putative first-generation migrant was detected from the GBR into the EA subtropics. Occasional long-distance dispersal is supported by changes in species composition at these high-latitude reefs and the occurrence of new species records over the past three decades. While subtropical populations exhibited significantly lower allelic richness than their GBR counterparts, genetic diversity was still moderately high. Furthermore, subtropical populations were not inbred and had a considerable number of private alleles. The results suggest that these high-latitude S. hystrix populations are supplemented by infrequent long-distance migrants from the GBR and may have adequate population sizes to maintain viability and resist severe losses of genetic diversity.  相似文献

Geographic patterns of genie differentiation were compared with differentiation between karyotypes in the intertidal snail Nucella lapillus. Samples from 24 sites covering the species range in Europe and North America were analysed for allozyme variation at 16 soluble enzyme loci. Two homokaryotypes have been identified with diploid numbers 2n = 26 and 2n= 36 (variation is Robertsonian and hybrids have intermediate chromosome numbers) and samples were classified (on the basis of published data) according to karyotype. Group 1 consisted of samples from three English Channel populations of higher chromosome number (on average 2n > 32) and Group 2 consisted of the remaining 21 samples (presumed to be 2n= 26). Karyotype variation accounts for roughly the same amount of the absolute allozyme variance as geographic variation (46.3 °, and 53.7°, respectively). Yet the patterns of differentiation seen between karyotypes and with geographic separation are very different. In samples classified as 2n= 26 (Group 2), while there is a significant amount of heterogeneity (FST per locus averaged 0.128 for 10 polymorphic loci), allozyme variation occurs independently at different loci so mean genetic identity (Nei) is high: 0.972. There is only a slight decline in genetic identity with distance (genetic identity averaged 0.965 for amphi-atlantic comparisons) indicating that passive transport of juveniles or adults may contribute significantly to gene flow. Conversely, allozyme variation between karyotypes was concordant. High chromosome number populations possessed a suite of alleles at four allozyme loci (Esl-3, Lap-2, Mdh-1 and Pep-2) which were absent or rare in Group 2 samples resulting in high FST values for these loci (from 0.294 to 0.472) when karyotypic classes were combined. Consequently the mean genetic identity between these Robertsonian races is low, 0.856, and falls within the range more usually associated with congeneric comparisons than with con-specific comparisons. The mechanisms maintaining this genie difference are unclear. However the distribution of the karyotypes and physiological and morphological differences (in shell shape) between them strongly suggest that karyotypic variation in Nucella is adaptive.  相似文献

We investigated the distribution of variation at six microsatellite loci in the black rat snake (Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta). Sampling occurred at three hierarchical scales ranging from communal hibernacula to regional populations, with most locales situated within the Frontenac Axis region of eastern Ontario. We detected no statistically significant pairwise differentiation (FST and RST) between hibernacula within the same subpopulations (interhibernaculum distance <6 km). However, isolation-by-distance was evident among locales within the Frontenac Axis (maximum of 50 km) and among regional populations (maximum of 1500 km). Conservative estimates of Nc derived from heterozygosity values ranged from approximately 600 to 2000. These values suggest relatively large genetic neighborhoods encompassing many communal hibernacula. Our results considered together suggest viscosity of gene flow over relatively short distances (tens of kilometers), but substantial genetic exchange among local hibernacula.  相似文献

A population genetic study by blood protein electrophoresis revealed that populations of wild grivet monkeys in central Ethiopia show a comparatively low level of variability and less differentiation among local populations over broad geographical areas. This is evaluated by comparison with other wild primate studies using the same electrophoretic technique. A total of 196 blood samples, collected from 10 local populations comprising 11 troops distributed along approximately 600 km of the Awash River, were examined for 33 genetic loci. The low level of variability was indicated by the proportion of polymorphic loci (Ppoly), which was on average 11% with an average heterozygosity (H) of 3%. A tendency for lower genetic differentiation among local populations was shown by theG ST value of 0.09, an averageF ST of 0.08, andNei's genetic distance; ranging from 0.002 to 0.023. Considering paleoclimatological studies of the area and ecological traits of this species, these findings can be explained as a consequence of a comparatively recent and repeated series of rapid habitat expansions following severe climatic conditions.  相似文献
