Chromosome numbers and measurements were recorded in 47 individuals of ten taxa of Primula , representing eight species and two subspecies from ten populations. The basic numbers of chromosomes were x  = 8, 9 or 11, and they were mostly metacentric, medium-long to medium-small, ranging in length from c . 3.6 µm to 1.6 µm. Diploid chromosome numbers of 2 n  = 2 x  = 24 and 22 were scored for the first time in P. loeseneri Kitag. and P. prenantha Balf. & Sm., respectively. A new ploidy level of 2 n  = 4 x  = 44 was found in P. burmanica Balf. & King. The recorded diploid numbers of the remaining species confirmed earlier reports. Interspecific variability in chromosome numbers was correlated with heterogeneity in their mean length. Comparison of the data with those in the literature revealed that the observed variability of chromosomal characters was compatible with the other taxonomic criteria and supports the current taxonomic delimitation. Chromosomal variation at the diploid level is the predominant feature in Primula evolution, and allopatric speciation has played a major role in its specific diversity. Subgen. Aleuritia could represent the main clade from which the other subgenera have evolved. The origin of the chromosome numbers, geographical distribution and evolution of the species were assessed, and the parallel polyphyletic mode of evolution in the genus was confirmed.  © 2006 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2006, 150 , 211–219.  相似文献

Karyotypes of four East and Southeast Asian species of the genus Mabuya and representatives of three arboreal genera considered to be closely related to the genus (Apterygodon, Dasia and Lamprolepis) are examined. Mabuya rugifera and M. rudis possess 2n=32 karyotypes, whereas M. longicaudata lacks one small chromosome pair, which makes its diploid number 30. The karyotype of M. macularia quadrifasciata from southern Thailand differs from any known scincid karyotypes, including a previously reported karyotype of the conspecific Indian population, in exhibiting a high diploid number (38) and a gradual change in size from large to small chromosomes. This suggests that M. macularia may consist of more than one biological species. Karyotypes of Apterygodon vittatus, Dasia olivacea and Lamprolepis smaragdinus, while exhibiting a close similarity to most Mabuya karyotypes, suggest the occurrence of slight rearrangements involving either the deletion of two small chromosome pairs (A. vittatus), or the change of centromeric positions in medium and small chromosomes (D. olivacea and L. smaragdinus).  相似文献

Eudusbabekia diphyllis n. sp. and Eudusbabekia diaemis n. sp., parasitic on Diphylla ecaudata and Diaemus youngi, respectively, are described, and measurements for Eudusbabekia arganoi (Vomero) are presented. The vampire bats are here treated as representatives of the family Phyllostomatidae on the basis of the occurrence of these mites on them. These 3 mites are closest to those parasitic on bats of the genus Phyllostomus, among all the known mites of the genus Eudusbabekia, suggesting a phylogenetic affinity between vampire bats and Phyllostomus. Asymmetry of different levels of legs I is observed in adults of E. arganoi and E. diaemis, whereas E. diphyllis bears bilaterally symmetrical legs I. From this, the phylogenetic line, E. diphyllis-E. arganoi-E. diaemis, is proposed on the premise that asymmetry of any part of the external body has been fostered and preserved in the parasites.  相似文献

Chromosomal polymorphism was assessed in the southern short-tailed shrew (Blarina carolinensis) using standard metaphase chromosome and G-banding techniques. Twenty-one animals (11 males, 10 females) from the Meeman Biological Station in Shelby Co., Tennessee, were examined for diploid number. Results showed diploid numbers of 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 and 41 and fundamental numbers of 41, 42, 43, 44 and 45. No diploid numbers or fundamental numbers were unique to a specific collecting locality. The first G-banded karyotypes are reported for the species. These results indicate that Robertsonian polymorphisms, inversions, and possibly other events are responsible for chromosomal variation in B. carolinensis.  相似文献

The karyotypes of the two hamster species Phodopus sungorus and P. roborovskii were analyzed with several banding techniques and compared. The homoeologies found between all chromosomes led to the proposal of the most likely common ancestral karyotype of these two species. The differences in the karyotypes were found to be a result of seven independent centric fusions, three inversions, and one possible telomeric fusion, as well as changes in the quantity and DNA-base pair composition of the constitutive heterochromatin.  相似文献

Chromosomal evolution in the genus Clethrionomys   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
R. Gamperl 《Genetica》1982,57(3):193-197
The karyotypes of Clethrionomys rufocanus and C. glareolus are presented using G- and C-banding techniques. There is intraspecific polymorphism in Clethrionomys rufocanus for a pericentric inversion. The main difference between the karyotypes of the two species is considered to result from a reciprocal translocation.  相似文献

The karyotypes have been determined of 16 of the 32 species of the genus Varanus, including animals from Africa, Israel, Malaya and Australia. A constant chromosome number of 2n = 40 was observed. The karyotype is divided into eight pairs of large chromosomes and 12 paris of microchromosomes. A series of chromosomal rearrangements have become established in both size groups of the karyotype and are restricted to centromers shifts, probably caused by pericentric inversion. Species could be placed in one of six distinct karyotype groups which are differentiated by these rearrangements and whose grouping does not always correspond with the current taxonomy. An unusual sex chromosome system of the ZZ/ZW type was present in a number of the species examined. The evolutionary significance of these chromosomal rearrangements, their origin and their mode of establishment are discussed and related to the current taxonomic groupings. The most likely phylogenetic model based on chromosome morphology, fossil evidence and the current distribution of the genus Varanus is presented.  相似文献

C-heterochromatin variation in the genus Eumigus (Orthoptera: Pamphagoidea)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Eumigus punctatus, E. monticulus and E. cucullatus all have 2n=19 and similar chromosome morphology, all the elements being telocentric. In E. cucullatus there are C-bands in all chromosomes, but not in E. monticulus. The possible origins of these differences and their cytotaxonomic significance are discussed.  相似文献

Substantial effort has been made to elucidate karyotypic evolution of phyllostomid bats, mostly through comparisons of G-banding patterns. However, due to the limited number of G-bands in respective karyotypes and to the similarity of non-homologous bands, an accurate evolutionary history of chromosome segments remains questionable. This is the case for vampire bats (Desmodontinae). Despite several proposed homologies, banding data have not yet provided a detailed understanding of the chromosomal changes within vampire genera. We examined karyotype differentiation of the 3 species within this subfamily using whole chromosomal probes from Phyllostomus hastatus (Phyllostominae) and Carollia brevicauda (Carolliinae). Painting probes of P. hastatus respectively detected 22, 21 and 23 conserved segments in Diphylla ecaudata, Diaemus youngi, and Desmodus rotundus karyotypes, whereas 27, 27 and 28 were respectively detectedwith C. brevicauda paints. Based on the evolutionary relationships proposed by morphological and molecular data, we present probable chromosomal synapomorphies for vampire bats and propose chromosomes that were present in the common ancestor of the 5 genera analyzed. Karyotype comparisons allowed us to relate a number of conserved chromosomal segments among the 5 species, providing a broader database for understanding karyotype evolution in the family.  相似文献

The Neotropical broad-nosed bats, genus Platyrrhinus, represent a well-defined monophyletic group of 14 recognized species. A recent study of morphological characters confirmed Platyrrhinus monophyly and species diagnosis, but offered little support to their intra-specific relationships. We conducted phylogenetic analyses of the genus, using dense taxonomic sampling in combination with four gene sequences representing both mitochondrial and nuclear DNA transmission systems. Our aim was to elucidate the phylogenetic structure among species, using the resulting 3341 bp of DNA. Maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian inference analyses produced similar topologies that confirm the monophyly of the genus Platyrrhinus and strongly support many previously unrecognized groups. Paraphyly of Platyrrhinus helleri and the unclear position of P. brachycephalus in the clades were also apparent in the data. Our biogeographical analysis suggests a Brazilian Shield origin for Platyrrhinus, followed by subsequent radiations of lineages in the Amazon Basin and Andes. Secondary dispersal from Amazonian and Andean centers is responsible for the Platyrrhinus inhabiting the Guianan Shield and the Pacific lowlands and Central America, respectively.  相似文献

Early taxonomic investigations associated the genus Scotinomys with South American akodontine rodents, but more recent morphological analyses based in large part on the glans penis have linked brown mice with North American peromyscines, specifically the genus Baiomys. Differentially stained chromosomal preparations of S. xerampelinus were compared with other cricetine taxa. Chromosomally, golden mice (Ochrotomys) were found to be most similar to Scotinomys, this association based on two apparent synapomorphic G-banded chromosomes. The majority of banded chromosomes possessed by Scotinomys were found to be either uniquely derived or to appear unaltered, and therefore presumably ancestral, when compared to the G-band patterns of other cricetids. These results fail to support the morphological hypotheses that closely unite Scotinomys with Baiomys, and instead support a hypothesis that treats Scotinomys, Ochrotomys, and perhaps Baiomys as a rather loosely associated assemblage of genera that are phylogenetically intermediate between the relatively complex pene, primarily South American cricetine rodents and the more simple pene North American neotomine-peromyscines.  相似文献

Based on extensive phenetic analyses, bats of the genus Myotis have been classically subdivided into four major subgenera each of which comprise many species with similar morphological and ecological adaptations. Each subgenus thus corresponds to a distinct "ecomorph" encompassing bat species exploiting their environment in a similar fashion. As three of these subgenera are cosmopolitan, regional species assemblages of Myotis usually include sympatric representatives of each ecomorph. If species within these ecomorphs are monophyletic, such assemblages would suggest extensive secondary dispersal across geographic areas. Conversely, these ecomorphological adaptations may have evolved independently through deterministic processes, such as adaptive radiation. In this case, phylogenetic reconstructions are not expected to sort species of the same ecomorph into monophyletic clades. To test these predictions, we reconstructed the phylogenetic history of 13 American, 11 Palaearctic, and 6 other Myotis species, using sequence data obtained from nearly 2 kb of mitochondrial genes (cytochrome b and nd1). Separate or combined analyses of these sequences clearly demonstrate the existence of several pairs of morphologically very similar species (i.e., sibling species) which are phylogenetically not closely related. None of the three tested subgenera constitute monophyletic units. For instance, Nearctic and Neotropical species currently classified into the three subgenera were clustered in a single, well-supported monophyletic clade. These species thus evolved independently of their ecological equivalents from the Palaearctic region. Independent adaptive radiations among species of the genus Myotis therefore produced strikingly similar evolutionary solutions in different parts of the world. Furthermore, all phylogenetic reconstructions based on mtDNA strongly supported the existence of an unsuspected monophyletic clade which included all assayed New World species plus M. brandtii (from the Palaearctic Region). This "American" clade thus radiated into a morphologically diverse species assemblage which evolved after the first Myotis species colonized the Americas. Molecular reconstructions support paleontological evidence that species of the genus Myotis had a burst of diversification during the late Miocene-early Pliocene epoch.  相似文献

? Premise of the study: The evolution of asexual seed production (apomixis) from sexual relatives is a great enigma of plant biology. The genus Boechera is ideal for studying apomixis because of its close relation to Arabidopsis and the occurrence of sexual and apomictic species at low ploidy levels (diploid and triploid). Apomixis is characterized by three components: unreduced embryo-sac formation (apomeiosis), fertilization-independent embryogenesis (parthenogenesis), and functional endosperm formation (pseudogamy or autonomous endosperm formation). Understanding the variation in these traits within and between species has been hindered by the laborious histological analyses required to analyze large numbers of samples. ? Methods: To quantify variability for the different components of apomictic seed development, we developed a high-throughput flow cytometric seed screen technique to measure embryo:endosperm ploidy in over 22000 single seeds derived from 71 accessions of diploid and triploid Boechera. ? Key results: Three interrelated features were identified within and among Boechera species: (1) variation for most traits associated with apomictic seed formation, (2) three levels of apomeiosis expression (low, high, obligate), and (3) correlations between apomeiosis and parthenogenesis/pseudogamy. ? Conclusions: The data presented here provide a framework for choosing specific genotypes for correlations with large "omics" data sets being collected for Boechera to study population structure, gene flow, and evolution of specific traits. We hypothesize that low levels of apomeiosis represent an ancestral condition of Boechera, whereas high apomeiosis levels may have been induced by global gene regulatory changes associated with hybridization.  相似文献

The genus Littorina has been subject to many studies of electrophoretically detectable variation, mostly aimed either at clarifying questions concerned with population structure, or at clarifying difficult taxonomic/systematic problems. This paper reviews many of these studies. Topics covered include Hardy-Weinberg deviations, the extent of genetic differentiation among populations within species, founder effects and the effects of human introductions on genetic variation, the biological significance of allozyme variation, and the uses of allozyme variation in Littorina systematics.  相似文献

The variation in habit and morphology of the twelve species of Anginon, a poorly known southern African genus of woody Apiaceae, is discussed and illustrated. The genus Glia is shown to be the obvious outgroup, sharing with Anginon two convincing synapomorphies: 1, the reduction or partial reduction of the laminar part of the leaves, and 2, the heavily cutinized outer walls of the fruit epidermis. Several characters of the internal structure of the fruit, together with other morphological characters, have been analysed by the cladistic method. Our interpretation of character evolution within the genus and a first hypothesis of phylogenetic relationships, showing three distinct infrageneric groups, is presented.  相似文献

Analyses of meiotic and mitotic chromosomes were undertaken in 16 taxa of Echinocereus belonging to 12 species and all seven taxonomic sections (sensu Taylor). Chromosome numbers are reported for the first time for eight taxa, and previously published chromosome counts are confirmed for the remaining eight. Both diploid and polyploid counts were obtained. Eleven (69%) of the taxa surveyed were diploid (2n = 22); the five varieties of E. engelmannii were polyploid (2n = 44). Overall, chromosome counts are available for 23 of the 48 proposed species (sensu Taylor). Of these, 19 (82%) are diploid, and four (18%) are polyploid. Polyploid cytotypes are most common in the primitive sections, e.g., sections Erecti and Triglochidiatus, which suggests that polyploidy is probably a derived condition in Echinocereus. Polyploid taxa range from medium to high latitudes and elevations relative to the overall distribution of the genus. Polyploidy, hybridization, and cryptic chromosomal rearrangements are thought to be the major causes of the speciation events of the genus.  相似文献

Cytogenetic analyses were conducted in three species: Rineloricaria cadeae, Rineloricaria strigilata and Rineloricaria pentamaculata. The nucleolar organizing regions (NORs) were localized at the terminal position, on the ninth pair of the complement for R. cadeae and R. strigilata, on the eighth and sixth pair of st–a, respectively; and on the fifth pair of the complement for R. pentamaculata, the first pair of st–a. Rineloricaria strigilata and R. pentamaculata showed NOR heteromorphism and polymorphism, respectively. All species showed heterochromatin in the pericentromeric regions and associated with NORs, which were chromomycin A3 (CMA3) positive, demonstrating to be GC rich. The results show that NOR is nonconservative in this genus.  相似文献
