Background. Cardiovascular disease has been associated with both homocysteine and vitamin B12 levels. However, little information is available about the mutual relation in cardiovascular patients. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency in patients with cardiovascular disease, and to study the correlation with homocysteine levels. Methods. Blood samples were taken from 229 patients who had been admitted to the Coronary Care Unit of the Heart-Lung Centre of the Radboud University Medical Centre in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Patient demographics and clinical characteristics were assessed from medical files. Adjusted logistic regression was used to study the associations between vitamin B12, homocysteine and ischaemic heart disease. Results. In 70 patients (33%) serum vitamin B12 levels were below the lower limit of normal (<203 ng/l). Sixty-nine patients (33%) had vitamin B12 concentrations in the lower normal range (between 203 and 339 ng/l). Plasma homocysteine levels above the upper limit of normal were found in 83 out of the 229 patients (36%). Adjusted odds ratios for both vitamin B12 (0.76, 95% CI 0.44-1.30) and homocysteine (1.27, 95% CI 0.74-2.18) levels did not show a statistical association with ischaemic heart disease. No association was found between serum vitamin B12 levels and plasma homocysteine. Conclusion. Our data suggest that hyperhomocysteinaemia and low serum vitamin B12 concentrations are independent and cannot be used as a diagnostic tool for ischaemic heart disease. Background

In lacunar stroke patients vitamin B12 deficiency is often found and a relationship with the degree of periventricular white matter lesions (pWMLs) is suggested. Given the known relationships between WMLs and depression and between depression and fatigue after stroke, we studied both depression and fatigue in lacunar stroke patients with and without vitamin B12 deficiency.

Methods

In 40 first-ever lacunar stroke patients vitamin B12 levels were determined and self-report questionnaires for fatigue and depression were completed three months after stroke.

Results

Lacunar stroke patients with vitamin B12 deficiency (N = 13) reported significantly more fatigue (90.7 versus 59.4; p = .001) and depressive symptoms (6.62 versus 3.89; p<.05) than those without (N = 27). In regression analyses, vitamin B12 deficiency was significantly and independently associated with the presence of severe fatigue and clinically significant depression.

Conclusions

Our preliminary results suggest a relationship between vitamin B12 deficiency and increased levels of fatigue and depression in lacunar stroke patients. If these findings could be replicated in a larger and general stroke sample, this would open treatment options and may improve quality of life after stroke.  相似文献

Background/aimsIn ageing, low folates and vitamin B12 status are frequent and can explain the increase of plasma homocysteine level. Zinc is involved in the folates and vitamin B12 metabolism with opposite actions. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of zinc supplementation on homocysteine and vitamin B12 plasma levels as well as red blood cell folate level in French ageing subjects participating in the ZENITH study.MethodsApparently healthy middle-aged (55–70 years) and free-living older (70–85 years) subjects were enrolled. They were randomly allocated to three groups: 0, 15 or 30 mg Zn per day for 6 months as zinc gluconate in addition to their usual dietary intake.ResultsAt baseline, plasma homocysteine levels (15.2±3.5 μmol/L) in older people were higher than in the middle-aged subjects (12.7±2.7 μmol/L) and was negatively correlated with vitamin B12 values (p=0.0036, r=?0.215) and with RBC folate levels (p<0.0001, r=?0.30). These results are in agreement with previous data. However, we found no correlation between the biomarkers of zinc status and homocysteine, vitamin B12 or folate levels at baseline. Moreover, 6-month zinc supplementation did not modify homocysteine, vitamin B12 and RBC folate values in either of the groups.ConclusionsZinc supplementation at moderate doses do not lead to deleterious effect on folate or vitamin B12 status in ageing healthy free-living people, but does not have any beneficial effects on homocysteine metabolism either.  相似文献

Patients with subnormal serum vitamin B12 concentrations were tested for absorption of protein bound vitamin B12 and compared with controls. Absorption of the protein bound vitamin appeared to decrease with increasing age in healthy subjects. Differences between the result of this test and the result of the Schilling test in patients who had undergone gastric surgery were confirmed; such differences were also seen in some patients who had iron deficiency anaemia, an excessive alcohol intake, or folate deficiency. Defective absorption was also found in six patients with an adequate dietary intake of vitamin B12, normal Schilling test results, low serum vitamin concentrations, and tissue changes responding to treatment with vitamin B12. Malabsorption of the vitamin from protein bound sources, which is not detected by the Schilling test, may produce vitamin B12 deficiency of clinical importance.  相似文献

ContextSerious health risks have been connected to ongoing, escalating exposure to environmental toxins and one of them is acrylamide (ACR), an organic compound. Although there are many published reports on ACR toxicity, limited information is available regarding the use of two potential antioxidants against ACR-instigated reproductive toxicity.AimsThe study focused on investigating the protective effects of vitamin C and 5-ASA against ACR-incited reproductive toxicity.MethodsA total of 50 male mice aged 4 weeks old were treated for 90 days with different concentrations either of ACR or ACR and vitamin C or ACR and 5- ASA or ACR, vitamin C, and 5- ASA.Key resultsACR significantly reduced serum testosterone level (p = 0.0037), sperm concentration (p = 0.0004), and percentage of sperm motility (p = 0.003), as well as increased sperm abnormality; head (p = 0.0058), tail (p = 0.001), and midpiece (p = 0.0339). Besides, the weight (p = 0.0006) and length (p = 0.0105) of testes, as well as weight (p = 0.0001) and length (p = 0.0021) of epididymis were decreased along with atrophy of seminiferous tubules of the testis, and disintegration of the tubular epithelium of epididymis on ACR exposed mice which were improved by vitamin C and 5-ASA administration.ConclusionsVitamin C and 5-ASA can potentially mitigate the negative effects of ACR on male reproduction; however, combined application is recommended for better performance.ImplicationsIn Bangladesh, this work is anticipated to address the health benefits of vitamin C and 5-ASA, particularly in improving the reproductive health of males against ACR toxicity.  相似文献

Inter-individual variation in patterns of DNA methylation at birth can be explained by the influence of environmental, genetic and stochastic factors. This study investigates the genetic and non-genetic determinants of variation in DNA methylation in human infants. Given its central role in provision of methyl groups for DNA methylation, this study focuses on aspects of folate metabolism. Global (LUMA) and gene specific (IGF2, ZNT5, IGFBP3) DNA methylation were quantified in 430 infants by Pyrosequencing®. Seven polymorphisms in 6 genes (MTHFR, MTRR, FOLH1, CβS, RFC1, SHMT) involved in folate absorption and metabolism were analysed in DNA from both infants and mothers. Red blood cell folate and serum vitamin B12 concentrations were measured as indices of vitamin status. Relationships between DNA methylation patterns and several covariates viz. sex, gestation length, maternal and infant red cell folate, maternal and infant serum vitamin B12, maternal age, smoking and genotype were tested. Length of gestation correlated positively with IGF2 methylation (rho = 0.11, p = 0.032) and inversely with ZNT5 methylation (rho = −0.13, p = 0.017). Methylation of the IGFBP3 locus correlated inversely with infant vitamin B12 concentration (rho = −0.16, p = 0.007), whilst global DNA methylation correlated inversely with maternal vitamin B12 concentrations (rho = 0.18, p = 0.044). Analysis of common genetic variants in folate pathway genes highlighted several associations including infant MTRR 66G>A genotype with DNA methylation (χ2 = 8.82, p = 0.003) and maternal MTHFR 677C>T genotype with IGF2 methylation (χ2 = 2.77, p = 0.006). These data support the hypothesis that both environmental and genetic factors involved in one-carbon metabolism influence DNA methylation in infants. Specifically, the findings highlight the importance of vitamin B12 status, infant MTRR genotype and maternal MTHFR genotype, all of which may influence the supply of methyl groups for DNA methylation. In addition, gestational length appears to be an important determinant of infant DNA methylation patterns.  相似文献

Twenty primiparous dairy sheep of the Mytilene breed, which were fed with a ration deficient in vitamin A and carotenes, were divided into 2 groups of 10 animals each after a 2-month adaptation period. The animals of group A were administered vitamin A palmitate by intramuscular injection (3500 IU/kg bodyweight), while the animals of group B were used as controls and received only the vehicle of the preparation without vitamin A. Serum vitamin A concentrations increased significantly in the animals of group A compared to the animals of group B (P < 0.01) from the first 24 h post-injection and remained significantly high for 8 days, and at 10 days post-injection they reached the pre-injection levels. The serum vitamin E concentration declined significantly (P < 0.05) in the animals of group A compared to the animals of group B for 8 days, when they reached the pre-injection levels. No changes in serum vitamins A and E levels in the animals of the 2 groups were observed 20 days after the injection of vitamin A.  相似文献

A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial of a single dose of 200,000 I.U. of vitamin A with daily zinc supplementation was conducted with children in Mojo village, Surabaya City. Children aged 48 to 60 months were randomized to receive a single dose of 200,000 I.U. of vitamin A plus zinc sulfate (n = 12) or a single dose of 200,000 I.U. of vitamin A (n = 12) plus placebo six days a week for six months. Children were evaluated weekly for nutrient intake and for IGF-1, C-reactive protein levels, gamma globulin levels, serum zinc, serum retinol, bone age and the index height for age at six months. At the end of the study, there was a significant increase in the serum retinol level (p < 0.03), serum zinc level (p < 0.03), IGF-1 hormone (p < 0.04) and Z-score height for age (p < 0.001), bone age (p < 0.01), and gamma globulin level (p < 0.04) and a significant decrease in the amount of infection/inflammation measured by CRP level (p < 0.001). There was also a significant correlation between CRP level and height for age (p < 0.01), and between gamma level and height for age (p < 0.01).These results suggest that combined vitamin A and zinc supplementation reduces the risk of infection and increases linear growth among children, and thus may play a key role in controlling infection and stunted growth for children under five years old.  相似文献

The protein bCblC (bCblCpro) is a bovine homolog of a human B12 trafficking chaperone that is responsible for the processing of vitamin B12 and its escorted delivery in intracellular B12 metabolism. In this study, we found that bCblCpro is highly thermolabile with a T m = 42.0 ± 0.2 °C as shown for the human homolog, suggesting thermal regulation of these proteins. Binding of the reduced form of glutathione (GSH) that is a predominant cellular thiol increased the T m of bCblCpro from 42 °C to ~45 °C (ΔT m max = 3.1 ± 0.2 °C and AC50 = 2.1 ± 0.5 mM). Binding of vitamin B12 and its derivatives also stabilized bCblCpro increasing the T m to a different extent and vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin, CNCbl) was the least efficient (ΔT m max = 4.3 ± 0.3 °C and AC50 = 291 ± 36 μM). However, the stabilizing effect of CNCbl was significantly greater for GSH-bound bCblCpro (ΔT m max = 12.8 ± 0.6 °C and AC50 = 9.3 ± 1.6 μM) than for GSH-free bCblCpro. In addition, the stabilizing effect of GSH was also greater for CNCbl-bound bCblCpro (ΔT m max = 9.3 ± 0.3 °C and AC50 = 57.0 ± 6.8 μM). Limited proteolysis revealed that thermal stabilization of bCblCpro is derived from conformational changes of the protein induced by binding of the ligands. The results in this study indicate that GSH cooperates with vitamin B12 in thermal stabilization of bCblCpro and is a positive regulator of the protein.  相似文献

Depressed selenium and Vitamin E levels may contribute to hepatic injury through lipid peroxidation. To study the effect of moderate alcohol drinking (32.4±23.6 g ethanol/d) on serum selenium and serum vitamin E concentrations, we conducted a matched-pair study of 73 healthy, well-nourished risk drinkers and healthy controls with little or no alcohol consumption. Among risk drinkers, serum selenium was significantly lowered (1.49 vs 1.67 μmol/L;p<0.001) compared with controls. Difference in α-tocopherol concentrations did not, however, reach statistical significance (22.8 vs 24.9 μmol/L;p=0.06). Nutritional and life-style factors differed very little between the two groups. We conclude that even moderate alcohol consumption lowers selenium status. Selenium may thus represent a link joining the hepatotoxic and nutritional backgrounds of alcoholic liver disease.  相似文献

Vitamin B12 is synthesised in the rumen from cobalt (Co) and has a major role in metabolism in the peri-paturient period, although few studies have evaluated the effect of the dietary inclusion of Co, vitamin B12 or injecting vitamin B12 on the metabolism, health and performance of high yielding dairy cows. A total of 56 Holstein-Friesian dairy cows received one of four treatments from 8 weeks before calving to 8 weeks post-calving: C, no added Co; DC, additional 0.2 mg Co/kg dry matter (DM); DB, additional 0.68 mg vitamin B12/kg DM; IB, intra-muscular injection of vitamin B12 to supply 0.71 mg/cow per day prepartum and 1.42 mg/cow per day post-partum. The basal and lactation rations both contained 0.21 mg Co/kg DM. Cows were weighed and condition scored at drying off, 4 weeks before calving, within 24 h of calving and at 2, 4 and 8 weeks post-calving, with blood samples collected at drying off, 2 weeks pre-calving, calving and 2, 4 and 8 weeks post-calving. Liver biopsy samples were collected from all animals at drying off and 4 weeks post-calving. Live weight changed with time, but there was no effect of treatment (P>0.05), whereas cows receiving IB had the lowest mean body condition score and DB the highest (P<0.05). There was no effect of treatment on post-partum DM intake, milk yield or milk fat concentration (P>0.05) with mean values of 21.6 kg/day, 39.6 kg/day and 40.4 g/kg, respectively. Cows receiving IB had a higher plasma vitamin B12 concentration than those receiving any of the other treatments (P<0.001), but there was no effect (P>0.05) of treatment on homocysteine or succinate concentrations, although mean plasma methylmalonic acid concentrations were lower (P=0.019) for cows receiving IB than for Control cows. Plasma β-hydroxybutyrate concentrations increased sharply at calving followed by a decline, but there was no effect of treatment. Similarly, there was no effect (P>0.05) of treatment on plasma non-esterified fatty acids or glucose. Whole tract digestibility of DM and fibre measured at week 7 of lactation were similar between treatments, and there was little effect of treatment on the milk fatty acid profile except for C15:0, which was lower in cows receiving DC than IB (P<0.05). It is concluded that a basal dietary concentration of 0.21 mg Co/kg DM is sufficient to meet the requirements of high yielding dairy cows during the transition period, and there is little benefit from additional Co or vitamin B12.  相似文献

A retrospective study was undertaken to audit physician''s management of patients with a low serum level of vitamin B12 who were admitted to a university-affiliated teaching hospital during 1 year. Among the 34 patients 13 were proved to have pernicious anemia or vitamin B12 malabsorption, but for 12 of them there were unnecessary delays (several days or weeks) before initiation of investigation and therapy. An additional six patients, who had low serum levels of vitamin B12 and macrocytosis, most likely had true vitamin B12 deficiency, but proper investigation was not done and they did not receive any vitamin B12 or folic acid therapy. In another nine cases unexplained low serum levels of vitamin B12 were not properly investigated, and the patients either did not receive any vitamin B12 therapy or received it without proper documentation of a deficiency. Suggestions for facilitating early detection, investigation and treatment of megaloblastic anemia or vitamin B12 deficiency are given.  相似文献

IntroductionTo investigate the dosimetric impact of daily on-line repositioning during a full course of IMRT for prostate cancer.Materials and methodsTwenty patients were treated with image-guided IMRT. Each pre-treatment plan (Plan A) was compared with a post-treatment plan sum (Plan B) based on couch shifts measured. The delivered dose to the prostate without a daily repositioning was inferred by considering each daily couch shift during the whole course of image-guided IMRT (i.e. plan B). Dose metrics were compared for prostate CTV (P-CTV) and PTV (P-PTV) and for organs at risk. Ten patients were treated with a 5 mm margin and 10 patients with a 10 mm margin.ResultsFor plan A vs plan B: the average D95, D98, D50, D mean and EUD were: 76.4 Gy vs 73.9 Gy (p = 0.0007), 75.4 Gy vs 72.3 Gy (p = 0.001), 78.9 Gy vs 78.4 Gy (p = 0.014), 78.7 Gy vs 77.8 Gy (p = 0.003) and 78.1 Gy vs 75.9 Gy (p = 0.002), respectively for P-CTV, and 73.2 Gy vs 69.3 Gy (p = 0.0006), 70.7 Gy vs 66.0 Gy (p = 0.0008), 78.3 Gy vs 77.5 Gy (p = 0.001), 77.8 Gy vs 76.4 Gy (p = 0.0002) and 74.4 Gy vs 69.2 Gy (p = 0.003), respectively for P-PTV. Margin comparison showed no differences in dose metrics between the two plans except for D98 of the rectum in plan B which was significantly higher with a 10 mm margin.ConclusionsThe absence of daily image-guided IMRT resulted in a significantly less uniform and less homogeneous dose distribution to the prostate. A reduction in PTV margin showed neither a lower target coverage nor a better spare of OAR with and without daily image-guided IMRT.  相似文献

Background/Aims

Normal or high serum vitamin B-12 levels can sometimes be seen in a B-12 deficient state, and can therefore be misleading. High levels of Methymalonic Acid (MMA) and Homocysteine (HC) have been identified as better indicators of B-12 deficiency than the actual serum B-12 level itself. We evaluated the prevalence of vitamin B-12 deficiency using appropriate cut-off levels of vitamin B-12, MMA and HC, and determined the relationship between serum levels of vitamin B-12, MMA and HC in cancer.

Methods

This is a cross-sectional study using a consecutive case series of 316 cancer patients first seen at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center between April 2014 and June 2014. All patients were evaluated at baseline for vitamin B-12 (pg/mL), MMA (nmol/L) and HC (μmol/L) levels. In accordance with previously published research, the following cut-offs were used to define vitamin B-12 deficiency: <300 pg/mL for vitamin B-12, >260 nmol/L for MMA and >12 μmol/L for HC. The relationship between B-12, MMA and HC was evaluated using Spearman''s rho correlation coefficient and cross-tabulation analysis. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves were estimated using the non-parametric method to further evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of vitamin B-12 using Fedosov quotient as the "gold standard".

Results

Mean age at presentation was 52.5 years. 134 (42.4%) patients were males while 182 (57.6%) were females. Median vitamin B-12, MMA and HC levels were 582.5 pg/mL, 146.5 nmol/L and 8.4 μmol/L respectively. Of 316 patients, 28 (8.9%) were vitamin B-12 deficient based on vitamin B-12 (<300pg/mL), 34 (10.8%) were deficient based on MMA (>260 nmol/L) while 55 (17.4%) were deficient based on HC (>12 μmol/L). Correlation analysis revealed a significant weak negative correlation between vitamin B-12 and MMA (rho = -0.22) as well as B-12 and HC (rho = -0.35). ROC curves suggested MMA to have the best discriminatory power in predicting B-12 deficiency.

Conclusion

Vitamin B-12 is poorly correlated with MMA and HC in cancer. Using serum vitamin B-12 alone to evaluate B-12 status in cancer may fail to identify those with functional deficiency. A thorough clinical assessment is important to identify patients that may have risk factors and/or symptoms suggestive of deficiency. These patients should have additional testing of MMA and HC regardless of their B-12 levels.  相似文献

Methylmalonic acid (MMA) concentrations are elevated in plasma as a result of vitamin B12 deficiency. This study reports the sequential changes in plasma MMA in lambs maintained on a cobalt-deficient pasture compared with supplemented controls. The results indicate that MMA is elevated in the early stages of deficiency, preceding the onset of loss of production and clinical signs of disease. It remains elevated as long as the lambs are unsupplemented with cobalt (Co). The most striking clinical sign was a loss of body condition as opposed to weight. The defect in the methylmalonyl CoA mutase is obviously an early defect in cobalt deficiency.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine if vitamin D status before supplementation influences the cytokine response after supplemental vitamin D. Forty-six reportedly healthy adults (mean(SD); age, 32(7) y; body mass index (BMI), 25.3(4.5) kg/m2; serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), 34.8(12.2) ng/mL) were randomly assigned (double blind) to one of three groups: (1) placebo (n = 15), or supplemental vitamin D (cholecalciferol) at (2) 4000 (n = 14) or (3) 8000 IU (n = 17). Supplements were taken daily for 35 days. Fasting blood samples were obtained before (Baseline, Bsl) and 35-days after (35-d) supplementation. Serum 25(OH)D, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)D), cytokines, and intact parathyroid hormone with calcium were measured in each blood sample. Supplemental vitamin D increased serum 25(OH)D (4000 IU, ≈29%; 8000 IU, ≈57%) and 1,25(OH)D (4000 IU, ≈12%; 8000 IU, ≈38%) without altering intact parathyroid hormone or calcium. The vitamin D metabolite increases in the supplemental vitamin D groups (n = 31) were dependent on initial levels as serum 25(OH)D (r = −0.63, p < 0.05) and 1,25(OH)D (r = −0.45, p < 0.05) at Bsl correlated with their increases after supplementation. Supplemental vitamin D increased interferon (IFN)-γ and interleukin (IL)-10 in subjects that were vitamin D insufficient (serum 25(OH)D < 29 ng/mL) compared to sufficient (serum 25(OH)D  30 ng/mL) at Bsl. We conclude that supplemental vitamin D increase a pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine in those with initially low serum 25(OH)D.  相似文献

Long-term and high-dose treatment with metformin is known to be associated with vitamin B12 deficiency in patients with type 2 diabetes. We investigated whether the prevalence of B12 deficiency was different in patients treated with different combination of hypoglycemic agents with metformin during the same time period. A total of 394 patients with type 2 diabetes treated with metformin and sulfonylurea (S+M group, n = 299) or metformin and insulin (I+M group, n = 95) were consecutively recruited. The vitamin B12 and folate levels were quantified using the chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay. Vitamin B12 deficiency was defined as vitamin B12≤300 pg/mL without folate deficiency (folate>4 ng/mL). The mean age of and duration of diabetes in the subjects were 59.4±10.5 years and 12.2±6.7 years, respectively. The mean vitamin B12 level of the total population was 638.0±279.6 pg/mL. The mean serum B12 levels were significantly lower in the S+M group compared with the I+M group (600.0±266.5 vs. 757.7±287.6 pg/mL, P<0.001). The prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency in the metformin-treated patients was significantly higher in the S+M group compared with the I+M group (17.4% vs. 4.2%, P = 0.001). After adjustment for various factors, such as age, sex, diabetic duration, duration or daily dose of metformin, diabetic complications, and presence of anemia, sulfonylurea use was a significant independent risk factor for B12 deficiency (OR = 4.74, 95% CI 1.41–15.99, P = 0.012). In conclusion, our study demonstrated that patients with type 2 diabetes who were treated with metformin combined with sulfonylurea require clinical attention for vitamin B12 deficiency and regular monitoring of their vitamin B12 levels.  相似文献

Coronary artery disease (CAD) has been increasing alarmingly in India. We had earlier shown that vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with CAD in Indian population. However, only about a quarter of the total vitamin B12 is internalised in the cells by the proteins transcobalamin II. Vitamin B12-bound transcobalamin II (holotranscobalamin, holoTC) is thus referred to as biologically active B12. In this study, we ascertained the levels of holoTC in 501 CAD cases and 1253 healthy controls and for the first time show that holoTC levels are significantly lower (p?=?2.57E-4) in CAD (26.81?pmol/l) cases as compared to controls (29.97?pmol/l).  相似文献

Vitamin D deficiency and periodontitis are commonly prevalent among Saudi adults. However, the association between periodontitis and vitamin D status has not been well documented. This study aims to examine the association between periodontitis and vitamin D status among adults in the Albaha region of Saudi Arabia. A case-control study of 123 Saudi adults was conducted; 60 had severe or moderate periodontitis, and 63 were periodontally healthy. Data was collected by an online self-reported sociodemographic questionnaire. All participants then underwent a full periodontal examination. Blood samples were also provided to assess participants’ vitamin D statuses through serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D). A total of 60 cases and 63 controls matched for BMI (30.2 ± 4.86 kg/m2), age (40.01 ± 7.73 years), and sex (46.3% and 53.7% male and female, respectively) participated in the study. Mean levels of 25(OH)D were significantly lower in periodontitis participants than in controls (25.03 ± 8.55 ng/ml, 29.19 ± 12.82 ng/ml, p = 0.037, respectively). Lower odds of periodontitis were detected per unit of 25(OH)D level (OR 0.964, 95% CI; 0.931–0.999, p = 0.043). In conclusion, periodontitis is significantly associated with deficient and insufficient levels of vitamin D among Saudi adults in the Albaha region. Future longitudinal research with a larger sample size may be suggested to confirm these results.  相似文献
