Summary Two populations of randombred of different origin (P and Q) containing eight lines (MP, WP, BP, CP, MQ, WQ, BQ and CQ) were used to evaluate the growth, feed efficiency and lifetime performance of females from eight pure lines and 16 F1 crosses. Line comparisons within populations (P or Q) revealed that the heaviest line at days 21, 42 and 63 was W, followed by lines B, M and C in both populations, while the highest in feed efficiency between days 21 and 63 was line W, followed by lines B, M and C in population P, and was line B followed by lines W, M and C in population Q. Generally, average body weights and feed efficiencies of crosses within and between populations were similar to those of mid-parents. Selection produced line W superior to the line M in additive direct genetic effects on body weight and feed efficiency in each population, and line WP superior to line WQ in additive maternal genetic effects on body weights at days 21, 42 and 63. In lifetime performance tests, total 20-day weight of litters produced by a dam during 200 days averaged from 442.7 g (WP) to 739.1 g (MP) for the eight lines. Lines M and W of populations P and Q generally did not differ in additive direct and maternal genetic effects on lifetime performance. Crosses excelled lines in the number of litters raised to weaning (5.44 vs. 5.25) and total 20-day litter weight per dam during 200 days (648.5 vs. 589.3 g). For lifetime 20-day litter weight per group, crosses from unselected lines (C) exceeded crosses from lines selected for nursing ability (M), adult weight (W) and both traits (B). Crosses of lines from different populations showed a higher heterosis in lifetime performance than crosses of lines within populations. Heterosis in the number of litters raised to weaning, and total 20-day litter weight per dam was significant in crosses between lines CP and CQ, between lines WP and wQ, and between lines WP and mQ. Crosses CPCQ and CQCP had a highly persistent production during lifetime tests.Animal Research Institute Publication 860USDA SEA-AR, Purdue University, West Lafayette, In. 47906 (USA)  相似文献

Crossfostering was performed using lines selected for increased 6-week body weight (H6) and increased 3-to 6-week postweaning gain (M16) and their reciprocal F1 crosses as nurse dams in the selected crossfostering group, and base population controls (C2, ICR) and their reciprocal F1 crosses in the control group. The offspring suckled were H6, M16 and F2 crosses in the selected group, and C2, ICR and their F2 crosses in the control group. Measurements taken on the individual offspring were body weights at birth (WB) and at 12, 21, 31, 42, and 63 days (W12, W21, W31, W42 and W63, respectively) and weight gains between adjacent ages (GB-12, G12–21, G21–31, G31–42 and G42–63, respectively). Least squares constants fitted to populations of genetic and nurse dams were used to calculate specific linear contrasts. Correlated responses to selection in average direct genetic effects were significant and positive for all traits examined in both H6 and M16, while the correlated responses in average maternal genetic effects were negative in M16 and negligible in H6. Selection response was primarily due to average direct genetic effects while the contribution of average maternal genetic effects was of secondary importance. The response in average direct genetic effects was smaller in M16 than in H6 through weaning (WB, W12 and W21), but was larger in M16 for postweaning weights (W31, W42 and W63). The correlated responses in average maternal genetic effects were consistently smaller in M16 than in H6. Direct heterosis was significant for all traits except for G12–21 and G42–63 in the control group, whereas maternal heterosis was significant for weight gains at early ages and for body weights. Direct heterosis tended to be larger than maternal heterosis in both selected and control crosses. Percent direct heterosis for body weight was larger in the selected crosses relative to the control crosses through 31 days of age, but the trend was reversed by 63 days. Percent maternal heterosis was consistently larger in the selected crosses.  相似文献

Two parallel schemes of crosses were practised involving the Spanish maternal line called V-line (V) and Saudi Gabali (S) rabbits. The first scheme began by crossing Saudi Gabali bucks with V-line does to get the F1 cross (½S½V), then does of this F1 were backcrossed with bucks of V-line to get ¾V¼S, then the progenies of the backcross were inter se mated to get (¾V¼S)2, followed by two more generations of inter se mating of (¾V¼S)2 to get a new synthetic maternal line named Saudi 2. The second scheme began by crossing V-line bucks with Saudi does to get the F1 cross (½V½S), then does of this F1 cross were backcrossed with Saudi bucks to get ½S½V, then progeny of this backcross were inter se mated to get (¾S¼V)2, followed by two generations of inter se mating of (¾S¼V)2 to form a new synthetic paternal line named Saudi 3. A generalised least-square procedure was used to estimate differences between lines in direct and maternal additive effects, direct and maternal heterosis, and direct recombination losses. A total number of 2497 ejaculates of 642 bucks were evaluated for ejaculate volume (VE), pH of semen, sperm concentration (SC), percentage of motile spermatozoa (MS), percentage of spermatozoa with abnormal form (AS), percentage of dead spermatozoa (DS) and libido score (LS). The estimates of direct additive effect for DS (14.2%), SC (12.4%) and AS (12.0%) were moderate and favourable to Saudi rabbits. Maternal additive effects for VE (11.7%) were in favour of genes of V-line carried by the dams of bucks, while these estimates were in favour of Saudi genes for DS (18.6%), AS (13.2%), MS (10.8%) and SC (10.0%). Positive estimates of direct heterosis recorded for SC (13.5%), VE (10.6%) and MS (10.5%) and the negative estimates recorded for AS (−21.5%) and DS (−20.3%) were moderate and well disposed to semen parameters of crossbred bucks. Positive estimates of maternal heterosis for VE (24.0%), MS (21.8%), SC (10.3%) and LS (10.2%) of bucks, and the negative estimates for percentage of DS (−14.7%) and AS (−9.6%) were also significantly favourable. Estimates of direct recombination losses for the majority of semen traits were always not significant.  相似文献

The maternal protein diet during the perinatal period can program the health of adult offspring. This study in rats evaluated the effects of protein quantity and quality in the maternal diet during gestation and lactation on weight and adiposity in female offspring. Six groups of dams were fed a high-protein (HP; 47% protein) or normal-protein (NP; 19% protein) isocaloric diet during gestation (G) using either cow's milk (M), pea (P) or turkey (T) proteins. During lactation, all dams received the NP diet (protein source unchanged). From postnatal day (PND) 28 until PND70, female pups (n=8) from the dam milk groups were exposed to either an NP milk diet (NPMW) or to dietary self-selection (DSS). All other pups were only exposed to DSS. The DSS design was a choice between five food cups containing HPM, HPP, HPT, carbohydrates or lipids. The weights and food intakes of the animals were recorded throughout the study, and samples from offspring were collected on PND70. During the lactation and postweaning periods, body weight was lower in the pea and turkey groups (NPG and HPG) versus the milk group (P<.0001). DSS groups increased their total energy and fat intakes compared to the NPMW group (P<.0001). In all HPG groups, total adipose tissue was increased (P=.03) associated with higher fasting plasma leptin (P<.05). These results suggest that the maternal protein source impacted offspring body weight and that protein excess during gestation, irrespective of its source, increased the risk of adiposity development in female adult offspring.  相似文献

Six calcareous and alluvial soil profiles differing in their texture, CaCO3 and salinity were chosen from west and middle Nile Delta for the present study. The 1st and 2nd profiles from Borg El-Arab area were sandy loam in texture and > 30% CaCO3, while the 3rd and 4th profiles (from Nubaria area) were sandy clay loam and < 30% CaCO3. The 2nd and 4th profiles were taken from cultivated area with maize. The 5th profile from Epshan area was non-saline clay alluvial soil and the 6th from El-Khamsen was saline clay alluvial soil. The relation between soil moisture content (W%) and water vapour pressure (P/P o) was established for the mentioned soils. Data showed that the specific surface area (S) values were 34–53 and 44–60 m2/g for calcareous soils of Borg El-Arab and Nubaria areas, 206–219 and 206–249 m2/g for non-saline and saline clay alluvial soils of Epshan and El-Khamsen areas, respectively. The corresponding values of the external specific surface area (S e) were 16–21, 14–22, 72–86 and 92–112 m2/g. Submitting W m+W me as an adsorption boundary of moisture films (W c) (where W m is mono-adsorbed layer of water vapour on soil particles and W me is the external mono-adsorbed layer), the maximum water adsorption capacity (W a) was found to be W c + W me or W m + 2W me. It was ranged from 1.88 to 2.70%, 1.97 to 2.95%, 9.70–10.70% and 10.80 to 13.12% while the maximum hygroscopic water (M H) values were 2.43–3.78%, 2.91–4.65%, 16–17% and 18.30–21.9% for the studied soil profiles respectively. The residual moisture content (θ r) at pF 7 and P/P o = 0 was ranged from 0.0005–0.0010%, 0.0007–0.0019% and 0.0043–0.0048% in Borg El-Arab, Nubaria and Epshan soil profiles, respectively. The inter-relations between the surface area and the hygroscopic moisture parameters of the soils under investigation were as follows Calcareous soils; W m = 0.40 M H, W c = 0.55 M H, W a = 0.70 M H, S = 14 M H Non-saline soil; W m = 0.35 M H, W c = 0.49 M H, W a = 0.63 M H, S = 13 M H Saline soil; W m = 031 M H, W c = 0.45 M H, W a = 0.59 M H, S = 12 M H These relations give possibility to deduce the soil moisture adsorption capacities and specific surface area via maximum hygroscopic water, which can be obtained through the experimental determination of water vapor adsorption isotherms.  相似文献

Summary The relationship between heterozygosity and the expression of heterosis at two different nutrition levels was investigated using Drosophila melanogaster. Average daily egg production and egg hatchability were measured in two parental strains and in F1, F2 and reciprocal backcross generations. Heterosis was more pronounced in the poor nutritional conditions. Two electrophoretic markers used to estimate the level of heterozygosity in F2 and backcrosses revealed an excess of heterozygous genotypes. Quantitative genetic effects (an additive line effect and individual and maternal heterosis) were estimated for both traits in the two environments. Although this model gave a reasonable fit in most cases, some epistatic interaction would have to be invoked in order to explain fully the results.  相似文献

The Iberian pig is one of the pig breeds that has the highest meat quality. Traditionally, producers have bred one of the available varieties, exclusively, and have not used crosses between them, which has contrasted sharply with other populations of commercial pigs for which crossbreeding has been a standard procedure. The objective of this study was to perform an experiment under full diallel design among three contemporary commercial varieties of Iberian pig and estimate the additive genetic variation and the crossbreeding effects (direct, maternal and heterosis) for prolificacy. The data set comprised 18 193 records for total number born and number born alive from 3800 sows of three varieties of the Iberian breed (Retinto, Torbiscal and Entrepelado) and their reciprocal crosses (Retinto × Torbiscal, Torbiscal × Retinto, Retinto × Entrepelado, Entrepelado × Retinto, Torbiscal × Entrepelado and Entrepelado × Torbiscal), and a pedigree of 4609 individuals. The analysis was based on a multiple population repeatability model, and we developed a model comparison test that indicated the presence of direct line, maternal and heterosis effects. The results indicated the superiorities of the direct line effect of the Retinto and the maternal effect of the Entrepelado populations. All of the potential crosses produced significant heterosis, and additive genetic variation was higher in the Entrepelado than it was in the other two populations. The recommended cross for the highest yield in prolificacy is a Retinto father and an Entrepelado mother to generate a hybrid commercial sow.  相似文献

Summary Direct and maternal genetic effects were evaluated for maturing patterns of body weight in mice using a crossfostering design. Crossfostering was performed in one group using dams from populations selected for rapid growth rate (M16 and H6) and their reciprocal F1. crosses. A second crossfostering group consisted of dams from the respective control populations (ICR and C2) and their reciprocal F1. 's. Population differences were partitioned into direct and maternal effects due to genetic origin, correlated selection responses, heterosis and cytoplasmic or sex-linked effects. Degree of maturity was calculated at birth, 12, 21, 31 and 42 days of age by dividing body weight at each age by 63-day weight. Absolute and relative maturing rates were calculated in adjacent age intervals between birth and 63 days. Genetic origin effects (ICR vs. C2; M16 vs. H6) were significant for many maturity traits, with average direct being more important than average maternal genetic effects. In general, correlated responses to selection for maturity traits were larger in the M16 population (M16 vs. ICR) than in the H6 population (H6 vs. C2) and correlated responses in average direct effects were larger than average maternal effects. Positive correlated responses in average direct effects were found for relative maturing rates at all ages and for absolute maturing rates from 31 to 63 days. Apparent correlated responses in degree of maturity were negative for M16 and H6. However, further analysis suggested that the correlated response for degree of maturity in H6 may be positive at later ages and negative at earlier ages. Direct and maternal heterosis for degree of maturity was positive in the selected and control crosses. Absolute and relative maturing rates showed positive heterosis initially, followed by negative heterosis. Reciprocal differences due to the cytoplasm or sex-linkage were not important for patterns of maturity.Paper No. 5244 the Journal Series of the North Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station, Ealeigh, Animal Research Institute Contribution No. 683 and Agricultural University at Wageningen Contribution No. 654–490–12On leave from the Animal Research Institute, Agriculture Canada at Ottawa, OntarioOn leave from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Agricultural University at Wagenitgen, the Netherlands  相似文献

Genetic effects and genotype×environment (GE) interaction effects on the cooking quality traits of indica rice (Oryza sativa L.) were analyzed based on a genetic model for quantitative traits of triploid endosperm in cereal crops. Nine cytoplasmic male-sterile lines as females and 5 restoring lines as males were used in an incomplete diallel cross over 2 years. The cooking quality traits studied were observed to be mainly controlled by genetic effects, but GE interaction effects, especially for amylose content (AC) and alkali spreading score (ASS), were also indicated. Among the genetic effects, seed direct effects and maternal effects were the main components of AC and ASS, respectively; cytoplasmic effects were the main components of gel consistency (GC). Among the GE interaction effects, AC and ASS were mainly affected by maternal interaction effects and GC by direct interaction effects. Additive effects and/or additive interaction effects were the main factors controlling the performance of rice cooking quality traits except for GC which was affected by dominant interaction effects. For AC and GC, there were seed heterosis and/or maternal heterosis. The predicated genetic effects indicated that four parents were better than the others in improving the rice cooking quality traits of the progenies. It was shown that genetic heterosis and GE interaction heterosis were important, especially for amylose content trait in early season indica rice.  相似文献

Starch comprises about 90% of milled rice, so that the eating and cooking quality of rice is mainly affected by the starch properties. In the present paper, we analyzed the genetical behavior of gelatinization temperature tested by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), gel texture, and the swelling volume (SV) of indica rice with an incomplete cross of 4×8 parents. A genetic model which can dissect the effects of triploid seed, the cytoplasm, and the maternal plant on the endosperm traits was used. The results indicated that peak temperature (Tp), conclusion temperature (Tc) and enthalpy (ΔH) were controlled by three types of genetic effects: seed direct (endosperm) effects, cytoplasmic effects and maternal effects. No cytoplasmic effects for the onset temperature (To), hardness and SV, and no maternal effects for cohesiveness were found. The additive variances (V A +V Am ) were larger than the dominance variances (V D +V Dm ) for all the traits except for Tc, which suggested that selection could be applied for the starch properties in early generations. The total narrow-sense heritability for each parameter was over 60%, indicating that selection advances were predictable in the early generations for these traits. Eight spring barley lines exhibiting incomplete resistance to powdery mildew in field trials were crossed and back-crossed to a common susceptible parent to produce the basic generations (P1 P2, F1 F2, B2 B2) required for a genetical investigation. By means of joint scaling tests, disease assessments on adult plants in a field trial were used to estimate the genetic parameters contributing to resistance. Lines with major genes, which appeared partially resistant due to the presence of corresponding virulence, were characterised by the presence of a significant dominance component in the analysis. Partially resistant lines which either lacked identifiable major genes or with major genes that were ineffective in the trial, but with good background resistance, could also be distinguished. Significant additive and epistatic effects were detected in all crosses. The prospect of enhancing partial resistance through hybridisation and selection is discussed.  相似文献

Summary The resistant breeding line, AR79-95, and the susceptible cultivar, Model, were crossed to develop F1, F2, F3, and backcross populations for genetic analysis of resistance in cucumbers to race 2 of Colletotrichum lagenarium (Pass.) Ellis & Halsted., the causal agent of cucurbit anthracnose. There was no maternal effect on resistance and a small amount of F1 heterosis toward the susceptible parent. Generation means analysis showed that there was additive and dominance but no epistatic gene action detected on the scale used. Additive and dominance genetic variances were estimated, and narrow-sense heritability was low to moderate. Based on effective factor formulae, at least five effective factors contrtolled the resistance. Some of these factors were dominant and others recessive. Implications for breeding procedures are discussed.  相似文献

Leaf conductance gL is strongly influenced by environmental factors like CO2, irradiance and air humidity. According to Ball et al. (1987), gL is correlated with an index calculated as the product of net CO2 exchange rate A and ambient water vapour concentration Wa, divided by ambient CO2 concentration ca. However, this empirical model does not apply to high values of gL observed at ca below CO2 compensation concentration . Therefore, we applied modified indices in which A is replaced by estimates for the rate of carboxylation. Such estimates, P1 and P2, were determined by adding to A the quotient of and the sum of gas phase resistance rg and intracellular resistance for CO2 exchange ri, P1 = A+/(rg + ri), or the quotient of and ri, P2 = A + /ri. If P2 is chosen, ca in the Ball index has to be replaced by the intercellular CO2 concentration ci. By using the modified indices P1·Wa/ca and P2·Wa/ci, we analysed data from the C3 species Nicotiana tabacum and Nicotiana plumbaginifolia, the C3–C4 intermediate species Diplotaxis tenuifolia, and the C4 species Zea mays. The data were collected at widely varying levels of irradiance and CO2 concentration. For all species uniform relationships between gL and the new indices were found for the whole range of CO2 concentrations below and above . Correlations between gL and P1·Wa/ca were closer than those between gL and P2·Wa/ci because P1/ca implicitly contains gL. Highly significant correlations were also obtained for the relationships between gL and the ratios P1/ca and P2/ci.  相似文献

Triple-testcross experiments (Kearsey and Jinks 1968) were employed to investigate the mode of gene action affecting pupa weight in Tribolium castaneum. Their experimental design involves two inbred lines, the F1 progeny and a segregating population derived from the cross of the inbred lines. In the present experiments, four segregating populations were used. These populations included the F2 generation, a select line (SEL) and two relaxed select lines (RSI and RSII). In addition, all possible reciprocal crosses were made among the RSI, RSII, and SEL populations. It was observed that: (1) additive, dominant and epistatic gene effects all made significant contributions to the pupa weight of the progeny from all four segregating populations; (2) there was no evidence of either accumulation of epistasis as a result of selection in the SEL population or decline in epistasis as a result of removing selection pressure from the RSI and RSII populations; and (3) significant negative heterosis and maternal effects contributed to the pupa weight of the crossbred progeny of the RSI, RSII and SEL populations.  相似文献

Summary Six straightbred lines of mice, some of their F1 crosses and a synthetic line were used to evaluate male and female contributions to heterosis in lifetime performance measured on females. Females from each straightbred line or F1 crosses were pair-mated randomly at day 42 with either a male of the corresponding genetic group or from a synthetic line, and pairs were maintained for 155 days (lifetime). Each mother was allowed to rear all young born alive until day 18 when the young were discarded. Data were analyzed using a model in which the group mean of lifetime performance was expressed as the sum of (additive direct) genetic and environmental effects for each of the male and female genetic groups used for mating. Comparison of group means for lifetime performance revealed that estimates of F1 heterosis due to male and female averaged 10 and 9% for number of parturitions during lifetime, 7 and 28% for total number of young born alive, 6 and 31% for total body weight of young born alive, 8 and 33% for total number of young raised to day 18, 9 and 43% for total body weight of young raised to weaning, and 8 and 8% for days from first mating to last parturition. The male's contribution to heterosis in lifetime performance was smaller than female's contribution for productive traits (total number of young born alive and at day 18, and total body weight of young born alive and at day 18), and was nearly equal in reproductive traits (number of parturitions during lifetime and days from first mating to last parturition).Animal Research Centre Contribution No. 1098  相似文献

We derive a new continuous free energy formula for protein folding. We obtain the formula first by adding hydrophobic effect to a classical free energy formula for cavities in water. We then obtain the same formula by geometrically pursuing the structure that fits best the well-known global geometric features of native structures of globular proteins: 1. high density; 2. small surface area; 3. hydrophobic core; 4. forming domains for long polypeptide chains. Conformations of a protein are presented as an all atom CPK model where each atom is a ball B(xi,ri). All conformations satisfy generally defined steric conditions. For each conformation P of a globular protein, there is a closed thermodynamic system ΩPP bounded by the molecular surface MP. Both methods derive the same free energy aV(P)+bA(P)+cW(P), where a,b,c>0, V(P), A(P), and W(P) are volume of ΩP, area of MP, and area of the hydrophobic surface WPMP, which quantifies hydrophobic effect.Minimizing W(P) is sufficient to produce statistically significant native like secondary structures and hydrogen bonds in the proteins we simulated.  相似文献

The potential of high-performance liquid chromatography as a technique for separating aflatoxins B1 B2, G1, G2, B2a, Q1, M1, P1, aflatoxicol, and a degradation product of aflatoxin B1, 2,3-dihydrodiol, has been assessed. A microparticulate silica adsorption column used with a 1:1 chloroform -dichloromethane eluant provided good resolution of aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, and G2 but the addition of 1% propan-2-ol was necessary for the elution of aflatoxins M1 and Q1. By selecting appropriate solvent mixtures, good resolution of all of the aflatoxins studied was obtained using columns containing an octadecyl (C18) reversed-phase bonded to a microparticulate support. Details are given for resolving: (1) aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, and G2 using a 5% tetrahydrofuran-15% dimethylformamide in water eluant and (2) aflatoxins B1 B2a, Q1 M1 P1 aflatoxicol, and a product of aflatoxin B1 2,3-dihydrodiol treated with Tris-buffer, using either 15% dimethylformamide in water or 10% tetrahydrofuran in water as eluant.  相似文献

Genetic basis of grain yield heterosis relies on the cumulative effects of dominance, overdominance, and epistasis in maize hybrid Yuyu22.

Abstract

Heterosis, i.e., when F1 hybrid phenotypes are superior to those of the parents, continues to play a critical role in boosting global grain yield. Notwithstanding our limited insight into the genetic and molecular basis of heterosis, it has been exploited extensively using different breeding approaches. In this study, we investigated the genetic underpinnings of grain yield and its components using “immortalized F2” and recombinant inbred line populations derived from the elite hybrid Yuyu22. A high-density linkage map consisting of 3,184 bins was used to assess (1) the additive and additive-by-additive effects determined using recombinant inbred lines; (2) the dominance and dominance-by-dominance effects from a mid-parent heterosis dataset; and (3) the various genetic effects in the “immortalized F2” population. Compared with a low-density simple sequence repeat map, the bin map identified more quantitative trait loci, with higher LOD scores and better accuracy of detecting quantitative trait loci. The bin map showed that, among all traits, dominance was more important to heterosis than other genetic effects. The importance of overdominance/pseudo-overdominance was proportional to the amount of heterosis. In addition, epistasis contributed to heterosis as well. Phenotypic variances explained by the QTLs detected were close to the broad-sense heritabilities of the observed traits. Comparison of the analyzed results obtained for the “immortalized F2” population with those for the mid-parent heterosis dataset indicated identical genetic modes of action for mid-parent heterosis and grain yield performance of the hybrid.  相似文献

Drought stress (DS) is one of the most critical environmental abiotic stresses for wheat production in the arid environments. Selection of high-yielding genotypes tolerant to DS can play a significant role in mitigation the negative impacts associated with DS. In the present study, generation means analysis (GMA) was used to study the performance of two crosses under well irrigation (WI) and deficit irrigation [cross I (Line 44 × Shandweel-1) and cross II (Line 20 × Sakha 93)]. Significant differences were observed for days to heading (DH), days to maturity (DM), plant height (PH), spike length (SL), number of spikes per plant (NS/P), number of grains per spike (NG/S), thousand-grain weight (TGW), grain yield per plant (GY/P), and proline content (PC) in the six populations of the two crosses within each irrigation level. Cross II had early maturity and the highest PC, NS/P, TGW, and GY/P regardless of the irrigation level. Cross I showed positive significant relative heterosis and heterobeltiosis for GY/P under the two irrigation levels. The inheritance of characters of cross I revealed additive, dominant, and epistatic effects, which varied with trait and stress. Additive genetic effects predominated in DH, SL, and PC, while non- additive were found in DM, NS/P, NG/S, and GY/P. Narrow-sense heritability estimates (h2n) were high for DH and PC, moderate to high for PH and SL, moderate for DM, NG/S, NS/P, and TGW, and low for GY/P. Based on different drought indices the populations BC1, BC2, F1, and P1 of cross II and BC1 of cross I were more tolerant to drought stress. Therefore, PC, TGW and DH can be used as selection indicators to improve wheat for drought tolerance in early generations and other yield components traits in late generations. The second cross (Line 20 × Sakha 93) shows promise and is of interest to a drought tolerance breeding program, where wheat breeders can use recombinant breeding strategies to construct desirable drought stress genes. Correlation and path coefficient revealed that TGW and PC were the main contributor in grain yield in both environments.  相似文献

Summary A series of experiments was conducted to determine the inheritance of seed weight in cucumber. Matings between a Cucumis sativus var. sativus (Cs) L. inbred line (USDA WI 1606; P1) and a C. sativus var. hardwickii (Royle) Kitamura (Ch) collection (PI 215589; P2) were made to produce seed of reciprocal F1, F2, and BC1 families. Families were grown under field and greenhouse conditions, and seeds were extracted from fruit 55 to 60 days post-pollination. Seed of F1 and F2 families was obtained using the Cs inbred WI2808 (P12) and the Ch collection LJ 90430 (P10), and seed of F1 families were produced using a North Carolina Design II mating scheme in which three Cs (P3= GY-14; P4=WI 1379; P5=WI 1909) inbreds were used as maternal parents and seven Ch collections (P2; P6= PI462369; P7=486336; P8=LJ91176; P9=273469; P10= 2590430; P11=PI187367) were used as paternal parents. Mean seed weights of F1 progeny reflected the dominance of genes of the C. sativus var. sativus parent. Transformation to number of seeds per unit weight resulted in increased variance homogeneity within generations and a broad-sense heritability ranging between 26% to 56%. Additive and dominance effects were important in the expression of seed weight in P1×P2 progeny produced in the greenhouse and additive effects were important in field grown progeny resulting from P1×P2 and P10×P12 matings. The estimated number of factors or loci involved ranged between 10 to 13, depending on the method of calculation.  相似文献
