Results are presented from experimental and theoretical studies of the optical characteristics and parameters of the plasma of an atmospheric-pressure barrier discharge excited in a HgBr2: N2: He mixture, which was used as the working medium of a small-size (with a radiation area of 8 cm2) exciplex gas-discharge radiation source. The mean radiation power of 87 mW was achieved at the radiation wavelength λmax = 502 nm. The electron energy distribution function, the transport characteristics, the specific energy lost in the processes involving electrons, the electron temperature and density, and the rate constants of elastic and inelastic electron scattering by the components of the working mixture were calculated as functions of the reduced field E/N. The plasma of a discharge excited in a HgBr2: N2: He mixture can be used as the working medium of a small-size blue-green radiation source. Such a source can find application in biotechnology, photonics, and medicine and can also be used to manufacture gas-discharge display panels.  相似文献

The characteristics of electron drift in a mixture of argon with mercury vapor at reduced electric fields of E/N = 1–100 Td are calculated and analyzed with allowance for inelastic collisions. It is shown that even a minor additive of mercury to argon at a level of a fraction of percent substantially affects the discharge parameters, in particular, the characteristics of inelastic processes. The influence of the concentration of mercury vapor in argon on the kinetic characteristics, such as the diffusion and mobility coefficients and ionization frequency, is investigated.  相似文献

The oxidation of reduced cytochrome c by ferricyanide has been studied over a wide range of ferricyanide concentrations using a continuous-flow apparatus. The formation of a ferrocytochrome c-ferricyanide complex has been demonstrated and the binding and electron transfer processes separated to give both the oxidation electron transfer rate and the binding rate parameters. The electron transfer rate has been found to be 1.86 · 103 s?1 in H2O buffer and 1.36 · 103 s?1 in 2H2O demonstrating that a deuterium isotope effect of similar magnitude (R = 1.37) to that found in the cytochrome reactions in photosynthetic bacteria [18] is also found in the reaction studied here. The binding association rate parameters also show a similar deuterium isotope effect suggesting that water rotation may be involved in both the binding of ferricyanide to reduced cytochrome c and the subsequent oxidation electron transfer.  相似文献

A method is proposed for determining the electron density N e and the electric field E in the non-equilibrium nitrogen plasma of a low-pressure discharge from the spectra of the second positive system of N2. The method is based on measuring the specific energy deposition in the plasma and the distribution of nitrogen molecules over the vibrational levels of the C 3Π u state, as well as on modeling this distribution for a given energy deposition. The fitting parameters of the model are the values of N e and E. A kinetic model of the processes governing the steady-state density of the C 3Π u nitrogen molecules is developed. The testing of this method showed it to be quite reliable. The method is of particular interest for diagnosing electrodeless discharges and provides detailed information on the processes occurring in the discharge plasma. Preliminary data are obtained on the plasma parameters in a cavity microwave discharge and an electrode microwave discharge. In particular, it is found that the electric field in an electrode microwave discharge in nitrogen is lower than that in a hydrogen discharge. This effect is shown to be produced by stepwise and associative processes with the participation of excited particles in nitrogen.  相似文献

The time course for the build-up and decay of birefringence induced by a rectangular voltage pulse was measured on solutions of flagellar filaments from Salmonella equi-abortus (strain SJ25). These filaments are tubular polymers of protein (degree of polymerization ≈ 103) constituted by non-covalent linkage of flagellin monomers of molecular weight 4 × 104. The effect on electro-optical properties of solutions of filaments due to variations in temperature, concentration and mean length of protein filaments, and the duration and intensity of the applied electric field is described. Analysis of the field intensity dependence of the birefringence and comparison of the build-up and decay processes indicate that orientation in the field is due primarily to the existence of a permanent dipole moment in the filaments. At 18 °C the following values were obtained for a solution of filaments with mean length and standard deviation of 0.39 and 0.30 μm: specific Kerr constant (Ksp) = 6.14 × 10−3 electrostatic units; optical anisotropy factor (g1g2) = 5.66 × 10−3; dipole moment (μ) = 1.01 × 105 Debye units; and mean relaxation time (\̄gt) = 9.20 ms. At temperatures below 20 °C there is a marked increase in the optical anisotropy factor of the filaments which may be due to a change in their flexibility. The large values of Ksp obtained indicate the highly responsive nature of these filaments to an electric field. The birefringence decay curves were decomposed by computer into a specified number of exponential terms from which both the mean length and the size distribution of these polydisperse filaments were calculated. The results obtained were in substantial agreement with the values of these parameters observed by electron microscopy. A cumulative field effect dependent on field intensity and filament concentration was observed. Repeated pulsing of electric field, above threshold values of field intensity and filament concentration, produced decreases in the birefringence near 60% of its initial value. The effect was reversible with a time constant greater than two minutes. No appreciable change in the relaxation time for decay of birefringence was observed on multiple pulsing of these solutions. These results are interpreted consistently to arise from the sidewise aggregation of filaments induced by electrical impulses of sufficient intensity and duration. These properties appear relevant to bacterial motility: variations in electric potential along the membrane of the bacterium might serve first to orient these organelles and then to induce their coalescence to “bundles” of filaments. The latter structures are commonly observed in vivo. In this way the activity of flagella might be co-ordinated.  相似文献

1. The Photosystem I-mediated transfer of electrons from diaminodurene, diaminotoluene and reduced 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol to methylviologen is optimal at pH 8–8.5, where phosphorylation is also maximal. In the presence of superoxide dismutase, the efficiency of phosphorylation rises from ? 0.1 at pH 6.5 to 0.6–0.7 at pH 8–8.5, regardless of the exogenous electron donor used.2. The apparent Km (at pH 8.1) for diaminodurene is 6·10?4 M and for diaminotoluene is 1.2·10?3 M. The concentrations of diaminodurene and diaminotoluene required to saturate the electron transport processes are > 2 mM and > 5 mM, respectively. At these higher electron donor concentrations the rates of electron transport are markedly increased by phosphorylation (1.5-fold) or by uncoupling conditions (2-fold).3. Kinetic analysis of the transfer of electrons from reduced 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol (DCIPH2) to methylviologen indicates that two reactions with very different apparent Km values for DCIPH2 are involved. The rates of electron flux through both pathways are increased by phosphorylation or uncoupling conditions although only one of the pathways is coupled to ATP formation. No similar complications are observed when diaminodurene or diaminotoluene serves as the electron donor.4. In the diaminodurene → methylviologen reaction, ATP formation and that part of the electron transport dependent upon ATP formation are partially inhibited by the energy transfer inhibitor HgCl2. This partial inhibition of ATP formation rises to about 50% at less than 1 atom of mercury per 20 molecules of chlorophyll, then does not further increase until very much higher levels of mercury are added.5. It is suggested that exogenous electron donors such as diaminodurene, diaminotoluene and DCIPH2 can substitute for an endogenous electron carrier in donating electrons to cytochrome f via the mercury-sensitive coupling site (Site I) located on the main electron-transporting chain. If this is so, there would seem to be no reason for postulating yet another coupling site on a side branch of the electron transport chain in order to account for cyclic photophosphorylation.  相似文献

This work presents results of experimental studies of the spectral and photometric characteristics of optical radiation generated by a pulse-periodic microwave discharge close to ECR (2.45 GHz, average power of up to 200 W, argon pressure of 10–4–10–1 Torr). Under these conditions, dense (n e = 1010–4 × 1011 cm–3) low-temperature (T e = 3–5 eV) plasma is produced in the working volume at an ionization rate of 10–3–5 × 10–5. It is shown that the increase in the electron density near the upper boundary of the pressure range at a constant level of the input power leads to a drastic change in the type and spectral composition of plasma radiation and a jumplike increase in the light flux. The results of probe and optical measurements made it possible to determine the range of the operating parameters defining the character and parameters of the radiation processes under study.  相似文献

The influence of magnetic configurations with magnetic hills or wells on the parameters of a plasma column and turbulence characteristics were studied in experiments in which the plasma was created and heated by a microwave beam at the second harmonic of the electron cyclotron frequency. Calculations show that, for 〈β〉=(1.5?2)×10?, a configuration with a magnetic well takes place and the Mercier criterion for stability of the ideal MHD modes is satisfied. It is shown that the compensation of the Shafranov shift of the plasma column by a transverse (vertical) field (B v /B 0 =5×10?3) leads to a configuration with a magnetic hill in which the Mercier stability criterion is violated in the central region of the plasma column. It is experimentally shown that the stored plasma energy in the magnetic-hill configuration is reduced by one-half in comparison with the magnetic-well configuration. In the case of a magnetic hill, the energy of fluctuations increases both in the plasma core and near the separatrix, and the quasi-regular components of the wavelet spectra grow. When the Shafranov shift is compensated only partially (B v/B 0~3×10?3) and the system is near the instability threshold, the stored plasma energy and the central electron temperature are somewhat higher, and the radiation power of fast electrons from non-Maxwellian tails at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency decreases. It is found that the wavelet spectra of fluctuations change, the coherence coefficient for spectral components increases, and the radial electric field near the separatrix decreases.  相似文献

The production of O2(a1Δg) singlet oxygen in non-self-sustained discharges in pure oxygen and mixtures of oxygen with noble gases (Ar or He) was studied experimentally. It is shown that the energy efficiency of O2(a1Δg production can be optimized with respect to the reduced electric field E/N. It is shown that the optimal E/N values correspond to electron temperatures of 1.2–1.4 eV. At these E/N values, a decrease in the oxygen percentage in the mixture leads to an increase in the excitation rate of singlet oxygen because of the increase in the specific energy deposition per O2 molecule. The onset of discharge instabilities not only greatly reduces the energy efficiency of singlet oxygen production but also makes it impossible to achieve high energy deposition in a non-self-sustained discharge. A model of a non-self-sustained discharge in pure oxygen is developed. It is shown that good agreement between the experimental and computed results for a discharge in oxygen over a wide range of reduced electric fields can be achieved only by taking into account the ion component of the discharge current. The cross section for the electron-impact excitation of O2(a1Δg and the kinetic scheme of the discharge processes with the participation of singlet oxygen are verified by comparing the experimental and computed data on the energy efficiency of the production of O2(a1Δg and the dynamics of its concentration. It is shown that, in the dynamics of O2(a1Δg molecules in the discharge afterglow, an important role is played by their deexcitation in a three-body reaction with the participation of O(3P) atoms. At high energy depositions in a non-self-sustained discharge, this reaction can reduce the maximal attainable concentration of singlet oxygen. The effect of a hydrogen additive to an Ar: O2 mixture is analyzed based on the results obtained using the model developed. It is shown that, for actual electron beam current densities, a significant energy deposition in a non-self-sustained discharge in the mixtures under study can be achieved due to the high rate of electron detachment from negative ions. In this case, however, significant heating of the mixture can lead to a rapid quenching of O2(a1Δg molecules by atomic hydrogen.  相似文献

How to generate a non-zero first hyperpolarizability for a centrosymmetric molecule is a challenging question. In this paper, an external (pump) electric field is used to make a centrosymmetric benzene molecule generate a non-zero value of the electric field induced first hyperpolarizability (β F ). This comes from the centrosymmetry breaking of electron cloud. Two interesting rules are exhibited. (1) β F is anisotropic for different directional fields (F i, i?=?X, Y, Z). (2) The field dependence of β F is a non-monotonic function, and an optimum external electric field causes the maximum value of β F . The largest first hyperpolarizability β F reaches the considerable level of 3.9?×?105 a.u. under F Y?=?330?×?10?4 a.u. for benzene. The external electric field effects on non-centrosymmetric edge-modified graphene ribbon H2N-(3,3)ZGNR-NO2 was also studied in this work. The first hyperpolarizability reaches as much as 2.1?×?107 a.u. under F X?=?600?×?10?4 a.u. for H2N-(3,3)ZGNR-NO2. We show that the external electric field can not only create a non-zero first hyperpolarizability for centrosymmetric molecule, but also remarkably enhance the first hyperpolarizability for a non-centrosymmetric molecule.  相似文献

The emission spectroscopy technique is used to analyze a cathode-directed streamer discharge in air at atmospheric pressure in point-plane geometry at interelectrode distances of up to 100 mm and a high-voltage pulse amplitude of 18 kV. The densities of molecules in the N2(C 3Πu, v=0), N 2 + (B 2Σ u + , v=0) and NO(A 2Σ+, v=0) states are determined, and the reduced electric field in the streamer head is estimated. It is shown that the increase in the average electric field in the discharge gap substantially intensifies the production of active particles in the discharge plasma and makes the plasma more homogeneous. This effect is only related to the increase in the fraction of regions with a high electric field in the discharge gap and, as a result, the reduction of the discharge energy losses via rapidly thermalized degrees of freedom. The active particles are only produced in the streamer head, including the case in which the interelectrode gap is bridged by the streamer channel.  相似文献

Further investigations into the properties of the mercury derivative formed by the reaction of 4-thiouridine-containing tRNAs and pentafluorophenylmercury chloride have been carried out. tRNAfMet (which contains only one 4-thiouridine residue) has been isolated by a one-step column Chromatographic procedure from unfractionated Escherichia coli tRNA and has been shown to react with the mercury compound to give a derivative which has similar properties to those previously reported for the corresponding mercury derivative of tRNATyr which contains two adjacent 4-thiouridine residues. The mercury derivative of tRNATyr appears to be a competitive inhibitor of tRNATyr in the aminoacylation reaction (tRNATyrKm = 0.42 μM, mercury derivative of tRNATyrKi = 0.11 μM). The mercury derivative of Tyr-tRNATyr can be made, but only by the reaction of the mercury compound with the aminoacylated tRNA.  相似文献

A rapid heating of nitrogen-oxygen mixtures excited by gas discharges is investigated numerically with allowance for the following main processes: the reactions of predissociation of highly excited electronic states of oxygen molecules (which are populated via electron impact or via the quenching of the excited states of N2 molecules), the reactions of quenching of the excited atoms O(1 D) by nitrogen molecules, the VT relaxation reactions, etc. The calculated results adequately describe available experimental data on the dynamics of air heating in gas-discharge plasmas. It is shown that, over a broad range of values of the reduced electric field E/N, gas heating is maintained by a fixed fraction of the discharge power that is expended on the excitation of the electronic degrees of freedom of molecules (for discharges in air, ηE?28%). The lower the oxygen content of the mixture, the smaller the quantity ηE. The question of a rapid heating of nitrogen with a small admixture of oxygen is discussed.  相似文献

A mathematical model is developed and a numerical analysis is performed for an electric breakdown in a hydrogen-air mixture with a low concentration of H2. It is shown that, at sufficiently low pressures p<10?2 atm, a small molecular-hydrogen additive (η=5×10?5–5×10?3) decreases the reduced field of an electric breakdown in air by a factor of more than 2 because of the appearance of an additional detachment process associated with the chain hydrogen-oxidation reaction. Detailed calculations are performed for the mean number density of negative oxygen ions [O 2 ? ]=103 cm?3 and the hydrogen concentration in air [H2]=0.5, 0.05, and 0.005%. It is found that, for [H2]=0.005%, the breakdown can develop under the action of a geoelectric field of 1.3 V/cm at p?10?4 atm.  相似文献

It is shown that relativistic electron current can propagate across the magnetic field B 0 over a distance d much larger than the electron gyroradius, r 0 ? m e v z c/(eB 0) ? d. This current is driven by the Hall electric field, which is generated on a spatial scale equal to the magnetic Debye radius r B = B 0/(4πen e) and causes the electrons to drift in crossed electric and magnetic fields. For a plane equilibrium current configuration, analytic profiles of the electron velocity and electron density are calculated and the electric and magnetic fields are determined. The results obtained are used to explain electron leakages in magnetically insulated transmission lines filled with a plasma expanding from the electrodes. Equations describing an equilibrium configuration of the ions and electrons that drift simultaneously across a strong magnetic field are derived.  相似文献

The parameters of the plasma of a microwave electrode discharge in hydrogen at pressures of 1–8 torr and incident powers of 20–80 W are measured by the so-called “relative intensity” method. The method allows one to determine the electron density and electric field in plasma by measuring the relative intensities of the Hα, Hβ, and 763.5-nm Ar line emission and calculating the electron-impact rate constants from the homogeneous Boltzmann equation. The measurements show that there are regions in the discharge where the electron density is higher (a bright electrode sheath) and lower (a spherical region) than the critical density for the frequency 2.45 GHz (ncr~7×1010 cm?3). Inside the spherical region, the electric field varies slightly over the radius and the electron density increases as the discharge boundary is approached. The observed discharge structure can be attributed to the presence of a self-sustained discharge zone (electrode sheath); a non-self-sustained discharge zone (spherical region); and a decaying plasma region, which is separated from the active discharge zone by an electric double layer.  相似文献

The characteristics of a dc discharge excited between a metal anode and a water cathode in argon were studied experimentally. The dimensions of the positive column and the electric field in it were measured, and the vibrational temperature in the positive column was determined from the N2 C 3ΠuB 3Πg (0–2) emission band. It is shown that the power deposited in the positive column is almost entirely spent on gas heating. The obtained dependence of the reduced electric field on the gas pressure and the ionization frequencies calculated by solving the Boltzmann equation indicate that electrons are lost diffusively, whereas ionization proceeds in a stepwise manner via the lower metastable states of argon atoms.  相似文献

The OJDIP rise in chlorophyll fluorescence during induction at different light intensities was mathematically modeled using 24 master equations describing electron transport through photosystem II (PSII) plus ordinary differential equations for electron budgets in plastoquinone, cytochrome f, plastocyanin, photosystem I, and ferredoxin. A novel feature of the model is consideration of electron in- and outflow budgets resulting in changes in redox states of Tyrosine Z, P680, and QA as sole bases for changes in fluorescence yield during the transient. Ad hoc contributions by transmembrane electric fields, protein conformational changes, or other putative quenching species were unnecessary to account for primary features of the phenomenon, except a peculiar slowdown of intra-PSII electron transport during induction at low light intensities. The lower than F m post-flash fluorescence yield F f was related to oxidized tyrosine Z. The transient J peak was associated with equal rates of electron arrival to and departure from QA and requires that electron transfer from QA ? to QB be slower than that from QA ? to QB ?. Strong quenching by oxidized P680 caused the dip D. Reduced plastoquinone, a competitive product inhibitor of PSII, blocked electron transport proportionally with its concentration. Electron transport rate indicated by fluorescence quenching was faster than the rate indicated by O2 evolution, because oxidized donor side carriers quench fluorescence but do not transport electrons. The thermal phase of the fluorescence rise beyond the J phase was caused by a progressive increase in the fraction of PSII with reduced QA and reduced donor side.  相似文献

Eggshell formation and egg production in domestic fowl were studied following the administration of methyl mercury (two dose regimes: 5 mg daily for 6 consecutive days and 1 mg daily for 50 consecutive days). A daily oral dose of 5 mg of methyl mercury for 6 consecutive days induced significant eggshell thinning and deformation and inhibited egg production. Uptake of 45Ca and synthesis of prostaglandins by a homogenate of eggshell gland mucosa from methyl-mercury-treated birds were significantly reduced, as was the calcium content of blood plasma. A daily oral dose of 1 mg of methyl mercury administered for 50 consecutive days also induced eggshell deformation and thinning and reduced egg production. This dose did not, however, have significant effects on the following: 45Ca uptake and prostaglandin synthesis by a homogenate of the eggshell gland mucosa; 45Ca uptake by a homogenate of duodenal mucosa; the Ca content of the blood plasma, shell gland mucosa or shell gland lumen; the HCO3 content of the shell gland lumen or the specific gravity of tibia. Methyl mercury added in vitro to a homogenate of eggshell gland mucosa significantly stimulated the synthesis of prostaglandins PGF and PGE2. Addition of mercury chloride to the same type of preparation stimulated the synthesis of PGF at the expense of thromboxane (T × B2) synthesis. Administration of 5 mg methyl mercury for 6 consecutive days seemed to reduce the availability of calcium for eggshell formation. This effect could have been due to a direct inhibitory effect of methyl mercury on calcium uptake from the gastrointestinal tract and/or to mobilization of medullary bone. The administration of 1 mg methyl mercury for 50 consecutive days probably induced the reproductive effects by another mechanism. The effects of methyl mercury on avian eggshell formation are quite different from the effects p,p′-DDE exerts on that process.  相似文献
