Iso-nitrogenous and iso-energetic diets based on wheat, rye and 3 triticale cultivars were given with or without a supplement with a technical enzyme preparation containing pentosanase activity. The 10 diets obtained were given to a total of 600 broiler chickens from the age of 1 to 34 days. Considerable variation in chemical composition and productive value of the triticale cvs. was found. The triticale cv. Lasko had a chemical composition which closely resembled that of the wheat (cv. Holme), particularly regarding pentosan content. The rye (cv. Kungs II) and the triticale Sv 8008 had higher pentosan contents, while the triticale WW 31433 was intermediate between the wheat and rye. At 21 days of age, live weights, feed intakes and feed conversion ratios were influenced by cereal type (P < 0.001), enzyme supplementation (P < 0.001) and the interaction of cereal type and enzyme (P < 0.001). In general, Lasko and WW 31433 (triticales) and wheat supported similar poultry production and were only marginally improved by enzyme supplementation. The rye gave an inferior production which, despite substantial improvement with enzyme supplementation, was still lower than that of wheat. Triticale Sv 8008 gave an intermediate production level which increased to that of the wheat following enzyme supplementation. An adaptation to the diets, particularly those rich in pentosans, was apparent as the chickens grew older and this reduced the beneficial effects of enzyme supplementation; however, statistically significant effects were still observed at 34 days of age. The results indicate that pentosan content may be a negative indicator for evaluating the productive potential of triticale. It was also evident that supplementation with enzyme preparations high in pentosanase activity can improve the nutritive value of diets based on cereal grains with pentosan-rich endosperm cell walls. 相似文献

The aim of the present work was to examine how different fats commonly used in the feed industry affect broiler performance, nutrient digestibility and microbial fermentation in the gastrointestinal tract of broiler chickens challenged with virulent Clostridium perfringens strains. Two experiments were carried out, each including 480-day-old male broilers (Ross 308), which were randomly distributed to eight experimental groups using six replicate pens per treatment and 10 birds per pen. In Experiment 1, birds were fed diets containing soybean oil, palm kernel fatty acid distillers, rendered pork fat and lard. In Experiment 2, birds were fed diets containing rapeseed oil, coconut oil, beef tallow and palm oil. In both experiments, the birds were either not challenged or challenged with a mixture of three C. perfringens type A strains. Irrespective of the fat type present in the diet, C. perfringens did not affect broiler chicken body weight gain (BWG) and mortality in either of the two experiments. The BWG was affected by dietary fat type in both experiments, indicating that the fatty acid composition of the fat source affects broiler growth performance. In particular, the inclusion of animal fats tended to improve final BW to a greater extent compared with the inclusion of unsaturated vegetable oils. In Experiment 2, irrespective of the dietary fat type present in the diet, C. perfringens challenge significantly impaired feed conversion ratio in the period from 14 to 28 days (1.63 v. 1.69) and at 42 days (1.65 v. 1.68). In both experiments apparent metabolizable energy values were affected by dietary fat type. Irrespective of the fat type present in the diet, C. perfringens challenge decreased the digesta pH in the crop and ileum, but had no effect in cecal contents. Moreover, in Experiment 1, total organic acid concentration in the ileum was two to three times lower on soybean oil diets as compared with other treatments, indicating that C. perfringens as well as dietary fat type significantly affects microbiota activity in the broiler chicken gastrointestinal tract. 相似文献

The effects of two sources of dietary lipids and supplementation of Clostridium butyricum on performance and intestinal metabolism of broilers were investigated. In a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement, 168 one-day-old broiler chicks were divided into four treatment groups, and fed four diets with two lipid sources (soya bean oil or fish oil, at 25 g/kg and 30 g/kg in starter and grower diets respectively), and without or with supplementation of C. butyricum (1 x 10(9) colony forming units per kg diet). C. butyricum had no effect on broiler performance. At 20 and 40 d of age, the pH of caecal digesta and the relative length of caecum were decreased after supplementation of C. butyricum (p < 0.05). After this treatment, the activity of alkaline phosphatase was increased in jejunal mucosa at 40 d of age (p < 0.01). Furthermore, there were increases in populations of lactic acid bacteria and the concentrations of acetic acid, n-butyric acid, n-valeric acid and total short chain fatty acids in caecal digesta of birds fed C. butyricum (p < 0.05). A significant interaction between lipid source and C. butyricum was found in the pH of caecal digesta at 20 d of age (p < 0.01). The results of the present study indicated that dietary supplementation of C. butyricum maybe a benefit for gut health of broiler chickens. 相似文献

The effect of different concentrations of dietary Na from three Na salts (NaCl, NaHCO3 and Na2SO4) was assessed in two experiments carried out on broiler chickens aged from 1 to 35 days. In Exp. 1, diets were supplemented with 0.15, 0.20 and 0.25% Na, which increased the average Na content of the diets to 0.19, 0.24 and 0.30% respectively. In Exp. 2, the amounts of selected Na salts (NaCI and Na2SO4) were reduced and the estimated Na contents of experimental diets amounted to 0.10, 0.13, 0.15 and 0.19%. In view of the risk factors for the development of foot pad dermatitis, our aim was to find an optimum source of Na and to keep dietary Na intake at the minimum level sufficient to support normal growth and acceptable slaughter quality. The present results suggest that the amount of Na required for the undisturbed growth of broilers and adequate feed conversion is not less than 0.15% of additional Na in the starter period (1-14 d), and not less than 0.11% in the grower period (until day 35). Higher dietary Na levels did not lead to further production advantages, and were found to increase the moisture content of droppings. Dry matter concentration of excreta was also affected by Na source. In comparison with NaHCO3, Na2SO4 seemed to be a better alternative for NaCl. Na2SO4 also tended to surpass NaHCO3 as a dietary alternative for NaCl in terms of feed utilisation during the starter period. The influence of two commercial xylanase preparations on the apparent metabolisable energy (AME) and, ileal and excreta amino acid digestibilities in wheat for broilers was investigated. The following three dietary treatments were tested: a basal diet containing 918 g kg −1 wheat, basal diet plus enzyme 1 and basal diet plus enzyme 2. Each diet was offered ad libitum to four pens (four birds/pen) from day 35 to day 42 post-hatching. Total collection of excreta was carried out during the last 4 days. All birds were euthanatised on day 42 and the contents of the lower half of the ileum were collected. Apparent ileal and excreta amino acid digestibilities were calculated using acid-insoluble ash as the indigestible marker. The AME values of wheat were markedly improved by exogenous enzymes. Addition of enzymes 1 and 2 improved the AME values by 12.6% and 18.6%, respectively. Supplementation of enzymes resulted in significant ( p<0.05) improvements in ileal and excreta amino acid digestibilities in wheat. Mean excreta digestibility coefficients of the 15 amino acids in wheat, wheat plus enzyme 1 and wheat plus enzyme 2 were 0.70, 0.78 and 0.79, respectively. The corresponding values at the ileal level were 0.78, 0.84 and 0.85, respectively. Excreta digestibility of amino acids, with the exception of tyrosine, were found to be consistently lower than the ileal estimates. In the case of unsupplemented wheat, apparent digestibilities of individual amino acids measured in excreta were 5–22% units lower ( p<0.10–0.01) than those measured at the terminal ileum. Effects of commercial probiotic (Bactocell®) on growth performance and blood parameters were evaluated. A total of 800 one day-old Ross broiler chicks were raised over 42 days. Chicks were wing-banded, weighed individually and randomly allocated into four equally major groups each having two replicates. Chicks of group 1 (control group) were fed the starter and finisher diets that did not supplemented with probiotic. The chicks of groups 2, 3, and 4 were fed the control starter and finisher diets supplemented with 1.6 g, 1 g and 0.8 g of probiotic per kg feed, respectively. Weekly body weight, feed consumption and feed conversion were measured. Blood parameters at 1, 4 and 6 weeks of age including packed cell volume (PCV), haemoglobin (Hb), total protein, albumin, total lipid and cholesterol were determined. All birds were kept under similar environmental, managerial and hygienic conditions. The results of the current study revealed that there was no significant change for Hb and PCV concentrations among different groups at all studied times. Also, total protein, lipids and albumin concentrations were not affected by probiotic supplementation. Chicken fed a diet containing various levels of probiotic showed a significant decrease ( p ⩽ 0.05) in cholesterol concentration compared to control group. Probiotic supplementation significantly increased the body weight and daily weight gain of broiler chicks at late ages (3–6 weeks). Also, the birds fed on probiotic levels 1 and 0.8 g/kg diet exhibited higher body weight among chicken groups at 6 weeks of age. Improved feed conversion was noticed in birds fed a diet supplemented with probiotic. There was no significant difference in mortality rate among groups. We concluded that use of selected commercial probiotic resulted in improved performance parameters and reduced serum cholesterol in broiler chickens. Moreover, supplementation of the probiotic to broilers in the levels of 1 and 0.8 g/kg diet was found to be better than control and 1.6 g/kg level indicating that increasing dietary probiotic level does not has the best performance. 相似文献

Summary Chromosomes of tetra- and hexaploid wheat have been individually characterized by Giemsa and/or Leishman C-banding techniques. Appropriate methodological modifications resulted in almost identical staining of chromosomes of tetraploid wheat with Giemsa and Leishman solutions. Additionally comparison of Giemsa banded chromosomes of the A- and B-genome of Triticum turgidum 34 and Triticum aestivum cv Jubilar reveals similar or corresponding patterns in all homologous chromosomes with the exception of chromosome 7B. Apart from this intervarietal variation in certain homologous chromosomes of both wheat cultivars, intravarietal polymorphism is verified. 相似文献

A preparation of keratinase (KE, 400,000 enzyme units/g) was evaluated as a feed additive for its effects on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and intestinal development in broiler chickens. Four experimental diets were arranged as a 2 × 2 factorial with two sources of protein, either soybean meal (SBM) alone or a combination of SBM and cottonseed meal (1:1 on crude protein basis) and with or without 1.0 g KE/kg diet. Dietary supplementation of KE increased body weight gain from 1 to 21 days of age and improved feed conversion ratio from 1 to 42 days of age. Also, KE supplementation enhanced nitrogen retention (P<0.001) and starch digestibility (P<0.001), reflecting the high level of KE and some amylase activities in the enzyme preparation. Microscopic examination of the small intestine on day 21 indicated that KE increased the ratio of villus height to crypt depth (P<0.05). The results suggest that KE has positive effects on growth performance, dietary component digestibility and intestinal development of broilers. 相似文献

Grape seed extracts (GSE) contain several beneficial bioactive constituents; therefore, can be utilized as a potential feed additive in broiler chickens. An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of supplementation of broiler chicken diets with GSE as a natural antioxidant at levels of 125, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 ppm on the growth performance, serum lipid profile, liver glutathione-reduced, thigh muscle malondialdehyde and humoral immune response against Newcastle disease virus vaccines. This experiment was performed during the life-span of chickens from 0 to 42 days of age. The results of broilers fed on diet supplemented by GSE were compared with those fed on the basal diet (control) or the basal diet supplemented by butylated hydroxytoluene as a synthetic antioxidant (BHT, 125 ppm). No significant differences were observed in the growth performance, percent livability, total lipid, high and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterols when the use of GSE or BHT were compared with the control. Total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were significantly decreased after intake of GSE compared with BHT in the feed diet. The glutathione-reduced level in liver tissues was significantly increased by inclusion of GSE, but not by BHT. Inclusion of GSE or BHT decreased significantly the malondialdehyde level found in meat tissue. The antibody titer against Newcastle disease virus vaccines was significantly elevated in 28 and 35-day-old broiler chickens fed with a diet supplemented with GSE or BHT, the former providing a higher response. It can be concluded that GSE can be used as an effective natural antioxidant and immunostimulant agent in broiler chicken diets, and that 125 to 250 ppm can be considered as the optimum dosage. 相似文献

The objective of the current study was to investigate the impact of including whole wheat in broiler diets on the development of the digestive tract. Chickens were fed a standard feed containing 400 g ground wheat/kg or the same diet with a part of the wheat given separately as whole grains that increased progressively from 200 g/kg at 8 d to 400 g/kg at 22 d. Every week, from 16 to 44 d, growth performance, modifications of the size of the digestive tract organs and intestinal enzyme activities were investigated. Morphology of villi and crypts in the small intestinal segments (duodenum, jejunum, ileum) were analyzed at 23 and 44 d. Microbacterial counts were performed in jejunal, ileal and caecal contents weekly from 16 to 44 d.During the adaptation period from 8 to 15 d, the birds fed the whole wheat diet had lower feed intake and lower weight gain. Thereafter, they showed improved growth performance so that by the end of the experiment, they had higher body weight compared to the standard-fed birds, 2430 ± 29 versus 2331 ± 36 g.Higher relative weights of gizzard (+26%) and pancreas (+12%) were observed from 16 to 44 d for whole wheat-fed birds compared to standard-fed birds. No differences in relative size of the different intestinal segments were observed, except that the jejunum was shorter. Increased villus to crypt length and surface ratios were observed at 23 d in the duodenum of whole wheat-fed birds, with no differences in morphometry between groups thereafter. Alkaline phosphatase activity was higher from 16 to 44 d in the duodenum and jejunum of whole wheat-fed birds. However, the activities of the digestive enzymes, leucine aminopeptidase and maltase, were similar between the two diets in the measured intestinal segments.A lower number of facultative anaerobic bacteria was found in the ileum of the whole wheat-fed birds, with no differences between treatments for Escherichia coli and for Lactobacillus counts. In the jejunum and the caeca, no differences in microflora counts were observed.The present results showed that feeding whole grains to broilers led mainly to modifications in the upper part of the digestive tract (gizzard, pancreas) and had little influence on the small and large intestine. 相似文献

Simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers are a valuable tool for many purposes, such as mapping, fingerprinting, and breeding. However, they are only available in some economically important crops because of the high cost and labor intensity involved in their development. Comparative mapping reveals a high degree of colinearity between closely related species, which allows the exchange of markers between them. Our objective was to examine the transferability of SSR markers among wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.), rye ( Secale cereale L.), and triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack). One hundred forty-eight wheat and 28 rye SSR markers were used to amplify genomic DNA extracted from five lines each of wheat, rye, and triticale. Transferability of wheat SSR markers to rye was 17%, whereas 25% of rye markers were amplifiable in wheat. In triticale, 58% and 39% transferability was achieved for wheat and rye markers, respectively. Wheat markers gave an average of 2.6, 2.7, and 2.4 polymorphic bands in wheat, rye, and triticale, respectively, while rye markers gave an average of 2.0 in rye and none in wheat and triticale. Summary Differences in salt tolerance of wheat and barley have been observed but knowledge of such differences in triticale ( X Triticosecale Wittmack) cultivars is of potential importance. Effects of six salinity levels (0 to 2% NaCl) on germination of triticales Beagle and 6TA 131 in comparison to wheat and rye were determined at 15–20°C. Beagle triticale and rye showed similar trends in germination reduction as salinity increased from 0 to 1.5% NaCl and exhibited fairly high salt tolerance. However, 6TA 131 triticale and wheat showed a significant drop in germination even at 0.5% NaCl concentration and were more susceptible to salt injury. 相似文献

The gastrointestinal tract is a dynamic ecosystem containing a complex microbial community. In this paper, the indigenous intestinal bacteria and the microbial fermentation profile particularly short chain fatty acids (SCFA), lactate, and ammonia concentrations are reviewed. The intestinal bacterial composition changes with age. The bacterial density of the small intestine increases with age and comprises of lactobacilli, streptococci, enterobacteria, fusobacteria and eubacteria. Strict anaerobes (anaerobic gram-positive cocci, Eubacterium spp., Clostridium spp., Lactobacillus spp., Fusobacterium spp. and Bacteroides) are predominating caecal bacteria in young broilers. Data from culture-based studies showed that bifidobacteria could not be isolated from young birds, but were recovered from four-week-old broilers. Caecal lactobacilli accounted for 1.5-24% of the caecal bacteria. Gene sequencing of caecal DNA extracts showed that the majority of bacteria belonged to Clostridiaceae. Intestinal bacterial community is influenced by the dietary ingredients, nutrient levels and physical structure of feed. SCFA and other metabolic products are affected by diet formulation and age. Additional studies are required to know the bacterial metabolic activities together with the community analysis of the intestinal bacteria. Feed composition and processing have great potential to influence the activities of intestinal bacteria towards a desired direction in order to support animal health, well-being and microbial safety of broiler meat. 相似文献

Changes were examined in the intestinal microflora in broiler chickens fed a diet containing antibiotics to obtain fundamental information on the mechanisms of beneficial effect of the antibiotics upon livestock production. Three antibiotics (colistin, bacitracin, and enramycin) were employed as feed additives. Experiments were conducted with broiler chickens in two ways. In one way dietary antibiotics were fed continually at levels approved for use as feed additives for a long term. In the other they were fed the same antibiotics for a short term. Significant changes in microflora were observed mainly in such bacterial groups as aerobic bacteria and Lactobacillus. In the long term administration, three possible modes of variance in the bacterial flora were postulated: Changes directly related to the antibacterial spectrum of antibiotics. Antagonistic changes related to an ecological balance in the bacterial flora. Changes in quantitative balance of bacteria constituting each bacterial group. The change in the intestinal microflora during administration of the antibiotic diet was expressed as a complex form of these transition modes. In the short term administration, it was demonstrated that the effect of the antibiotic diet lingered even 7 days after administration. This suggests that antibiotics used as feed additives may possibly affect the stability of the intestinal microflora. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of xylanase supplementation on performance, characteristics of the gastrointestinal tract, blood parameters and gut microflora in broilers fed on wheat-based diets. The experimental diets consisted of a wheat-based diet supplemented with 0 or 1 g/kg enzyme preparation (xylanase activity was 1218 U/g). The diets were fed between 7 and 49 days of age. Enzyme supplementation (ES) improved (P<0.05) growth performance and feed conversion efficiency. The addition of enzyme to a wheat-based diet reduced the relative weights of the duodenum, jejunum, pancreas (P<0.05) and colon (P<0.01) in 21-day-old broiler chickens. Enzyme preparation reduced digesta viscosity in the proventriculus and jejunum of 21-day-old broiler chickens (P<0.05) and in colon of 49-day-old broiler chickens (P<0.05). The pH of the digesta in the crop, duodenum and jejunum was increased (P<0.05) in 21-day-old broiler chickens and was reduced in the caecum of 49-day-old broiler chickens (P<0.05) with enzymes. There was no significant difference between the two experimental groups in counts of lactobacillus and coliform bacteria in the caecum. Enzyme supplementation increased the concentration of blood insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) (P<0.01) of 21-day-old broilers, triiodothyronine (T 3) and insulin (P<0.05) at 49 days. ES reduced the concentrations of blood thyroxine (T 4) (P<0.01) and uric acid (P<0.05) at 49 days, but had no effect on glucose concentration (P>0.05). In conclusion, ES can improve performance and digestive parameters and can change some blood parameters in broiler chickens fed a wheat-based diet. 相似文献

Specific protein inhibitors of microbial serine proteinases were isolated from wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.), rye ( Secale cereale L.) and triticale using affinity chromatography on subtilisin-Sepharose 4B. The wheat inhibitor had an isoelectric point (pI) at pH 7.2, while the rye inhibitor consisted of two forms with pI values of 6.8 and 7.1. The isolated proteins were effective inhibitors of subtilisins Carlsberg and BPN, and of fungal proteinases (EC 3.4.21.14) from the genus Aspergillus, but they were completely inactive against trypsin (EC 3.4.21.4) chymotrypsin (EC 3.4.21.1) and pancreatic elastase (EC 3.4.21.36). The inhibitors formed complexes with subtilisin in a molar ratio of 1:1. Summary The effects of A1 on the growth and mineral composition of different cultivars of triticale ( X Triticosecale, Wittmack), wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) and rye ( Secale cereale L.) growing in 1/5 strength Steinberg solutions containing 0 or 6 ppm A1 were evaluated after 32 days. Aluminum increased the concentrations of P and K in the roots and K in the tops of most of the cultivars tested. A1 tolerant triticale retained a lower concentration of Mg in the roots and tops than the A1 sensitive triticale, when subjected to A1 stress. In addition, A1 treatments resulted in smaller increases in root P for the A1 tolerant triticale than for the A1 sensitive cultivars.The concentration of root Ca and P of the A1 tolerant wheat cultivars were significantly below that of the more sensitive plants. Aluminum tolerance in rye appeared to be associated with lower Ca and higher Mg concentrations in the tops. of 12 cultivars of triticale ( X Triticosecale, Witt Mack), wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.), and rye ( Secale cereale L.) were measured in nutrient solution with 0 or 6 ppm Al added.
Aluminum injury to roots of triticale and wheat was characterized by decreases in root length, increases in the number of
roots, and in Al-sensitive Redcoat and Arthur wheats by decrease in root weight. Root length and number of roots were correlated
in triticale (r=−0.73 *) and in wheat (r=−0.85 *). Root length was also correlated with root weight in wheat (r=0.65 *); there was no relationship between the number of roots and weight. Differences in Al tolerance of cultivars of the three
species were greater when the solution was adjusted to pH 4.8 only on the first day of the experiment than when pH was maintained
at pH 4.8 throughout the growing period. Triticale and rye cultivars low in ability to increase solution pH gradually overcame
Al toxicity by increasing the nutrient solution pH between 12 and 22 days.
Aluminum sensitive triticale and wheat accumulated more Al in roots than tolerant cultivars when the solution pH was not adjusted
daily; but no differences in Al accumulation were obtained between wheat cultivars at constant pH value. This study indicated
that root length and number of roots can be reliably used for screening triticales for Al tolerance within 12 days of exposure
to Al. Root length, Al concentration, and dry weight after 22 days of Al treatment were also reliable criteria for evaluating

An experiment with broiler chickens was conducted to study the effect of inclusion of blue lupins and exogenous enzyme to broiler diets on the apparent metabolisable energy (AME), digestibility and performance. Two basal diets were formulated: a non-lupin diet A based on soya bean meal and maize, and a diet B where parts of soya bean meal and maize were substituted with blue lupin (200 g/kg). The two basal diets were fed either alone or, for diet B in combination with different enzyme preparations (Bio-Feed Plus, lactase, two galactanases (Gal-I and Gal-II)). The experiment was performed in battery cages with 648 male broiler chickens, where eight experimental diets were fed to the chickens from 7 to 21 days of age and weight gain and feed intake were measured during the period. At the end of the experiment, three chickens from each pen were slaughtered and the content from jejunum and ileum was separately collected and pooled and used for measurement on intestinal viscosity. For measurements of the apparent metabolisable energy and the apparent digestibility, excreta were collected at 22–24 days of age and ileal contents collected at 25–26 days from the remaining chickens. Substitution of soya bean meal and maize with blue lupin depressed weight gain (9%) and feed conversion ratio (12%) significantly. Feed intake of the lupin-based diets was not decreased. The protein in lupin was digested to the same extent as the protein from soya bean meal, the coefficient of ileal apparent digestibility being on average 0.75. However, the high content of the non-starch polysaccharides (NSP; 450 g/kg) in lupin depressed the apparent digestibility of the organic matter by approximately 10%. The AMEn of the non-lupin diet was 14.01 MJ/kg dry matter (DM) compared to a value of 13.11 MJ/kg DM in the lupin control diet. Improvements in the measured parameters were seen with some of the enzymes. Gal-I, and Gal-II in combination with lactase were the most efficient enzymes concerning improvement in AMEn and performance. Weight gain was increased by 3.5–5.5% by addition with these enzymes. Gal-I increased the AMEn significantly to 13.65 MJ/kg, a value not significantly different from the AMEn of the non-lupin diet. There was no effect of addition with the different enzymes on the coefficients of apparent digestibility of organic matter measured in the ileum, whereas addition with Gal-I to the lupin diet increased the apparent digestibility of organic matter over the total tract by 3%. The mode of action of the galactanases has been to hydrolyse the galactan in the NSP cell wall of lupins to galactose and dimers of galactose, which are energy-yielding to poultry. From the results obtained, it can be indicated that Gal-I increased the energy utilisation of the lupin-based diet, confirmed by the improved AMEn content and performance. 相似文献
