Male and female mating types of Chlamydomonas eugametos Moewus show an absolute light requirement for gametogenesis. Increasing light intensity from 0.3 to 1.2 mw cm−2 during nitrogen starvation (a precondition for gametogenesis) caused an increase in gametogenesis throughout a 28-hour period. Gametogenesis was measured by determining the percentage of paired cells after a 1-hour mixing period. Light requirements for the male and female differed. There was a 9-hour lag period in gametogenesis in the male, but no lag in the female. Gametogenesis was reduced 50% in the female and 90% in the male when 6.0 μm 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1, 1-dimethyl-urea was in the N-starvation medium. Sodium acetate, 1.8 mm, in the N-starvation medium increased gametogenesis in both mating types and eliminated the 9-hour lag in the male for cells irradiated for 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, or 23 hours during the last part of a 23-hour N-starvation period. Sodium acetate concentrations higher than 1.8 mm inhibited the mating process. 3-(3,4-Dichlorophenyl)-1, 1-dimethylurea inhibition of gametogenesis was decreased in the male but increased in the female, when sodium acetate was added to the N-starvation medium. These results indicate a nonphotosynthetic as well as a photosynthetic role for light in the gametogenesis of both mating types. We examined a population of northern leopard frogs to determine whether sex biases in investment in immunity, previously reported for this host species under controlled exposures to lung nematodes, is predictive of patterns of parasitism in nature. We examined Rhabdias ranae and Haematoloechus spp. infections in 74 breeding adult, 28 non-breeding adult, and 53 juvenile frogs. Contrary to our predictions, R. ranae prevalence and mean abundance were higher in breeding female frogs (prevalence: 39.4%, abundance: 3.05 +/- 0.85) than on breeding males (prevalence: 26.0%, abundance: 1.17 +/- 0.52), although no sex bias was observed among non-breeding adults or juvenile frogs. Female frogs also carried larger R. ranae worms, on average, than did males (females: 6407.38 microm +/- 153.80; males: 5198 microm +/- 131.09), regardless of age or breeding condition. We observed no sex-linked patterns of parasitism by Haematoloechus spp. worms in either adult or juvenile frogs. Alternative hypotheses, such as differences among sexes in the selection of thermal clines for hibernation, may explain the observed female bias in parasitism by nematode lungworms in nature and, thus, need to be considered. 相似文献

Three new species of lung-dwelling nematodes are described from the frogs Ptychadena anchietae (Bocage), P. oxyrhynchus (Smith), and P. uzungwensis (Loveridge) in southern Africa. All three species are medium-sized species of Rhabdias Stiles et Hassall, 1905, with the thick-walled buccal capsules measuring 11–13 μm × 6–11 μm, consisting of longer anterior and shorter posterior parts. Rhabdias athos n. sp. and R. porthos n. sp. are characterised by the rounded anterior end of the body and the presence of short dilatation of the oesophagus at its mid-length. Rhabdias porthos n. sp. has distinct excretory glands which are absent in two other species. Rhabdias aramis n. sp. is characterised by the truncated anterior end and the slight constriction of the oesophagus at the level of its mid-length. Phylogenetic analysis based on ITS-28S rDNA sequences placed R. aramis n. sp. in the clade consisting of R. engelbrechti Kuzmin et al., 2017 from South Africa and Eurasian Rhabdias spp., while R. athos n. sp. and R. porthos n. sp. formed a sister group to that clade. Identification key to 14 Rhabdias spp. parasitic in anuran amphibians from the Afrotropical Realm is provided. 相似文献

【目的】研究湖北黄精花部形态结构特征和大小孢子发生及雌雄配子体发育过程,以丰富黄精属植物的生殖生物学理论,为进一步开展湖北黄精的品种选育提供依据。【方法】以不同发育时期的湖北黄精花芽为试验材料,用显微观察法观察花部形态结构特征,石蜡切片技术对单花雌雄蕊进行切片观察。【结果】湖北黄精的花被为白色或淡黄绿色,花被筒近喉部稍缢缩;具6枚雄蕊,花丝下端与花被合生,花药开裂方式为纵裂;雌蕊子房上位,3心皮,花柱与子房等长。湖北黄精花药壁由4层细胞组成,成熟的绒毡层具多核,绒毡层发育类型为分泌型;小孢子母细胞减数分裂为连续型,四分体呈左右对称型排列,成熟花粉粒为2-细胞型;存在小孢子发育不同步的现象。雌蕊胚珠具双珠被、厚珠心;四分体呈直线型排列,胚囊发育类型为蓼型;存在双胚囊胚珠现象。在雄蕊的花药壁和雌蕊的子房壁都观察到有束状草酸钙针晶。【结论】湖北黄精雌雄蕊具有较原始的发育特征,虽然在发育过程中都存在异常现象,但雄蕊最终能形成正常的雄配子体,雌蕊低频率的双胚囊现象对总体受精结果影响很小。湖北黄精杂交育种可以选择花药开裂前一时期的花粉,花药壁和子房壁观察到的束状草酸钙针晶无法作为湖北黄精物种鉴定的... 相似文献

配子发生以及胚胎早期发育过程受严格且有序的基因表达调控。多种转录因子与靶基因结合,激活基因的时空特异性表达,实现受精卵全能性的获得,完成母型基因组转录调控向合子基因组转录调控的转变以及随后胚胎细胞的分化调节。研究表明,TFIID转录因子家族在这些关键阶段起重要作用,在基因转录调节的起始阶段,TFIID转录因子家族成员作为通用转录因子被招募到靶基因的启动子上,与其他转录因子共同形成转录前起始复合物,起始转录。该文总结了TFIID转录因子的结构、作用方式,以及在配子发生和早期胚胎发育中的调控作用。 相似文献

Populations of common submerged vascular plants were established in a series of 18 experimental ponds in 1967 and subjected to a replicated inorganic N-P fertilization program. The 18 ponds were fertilized as follows in 1968: 6 unfertilized controls, 6 low fertility (.75 mg. P/1) and 6 high fertility (75 mg. N/1., 7·5 mg. P/1.). The high fertility levels tended to eliminate the benthic plant populations and increase the phytoplankton standing crops. Elodea canadensis grew in the highest nutrient levels but Myriophyllum spicatum var. exalbescens and Ceratophyllum demersum appeared to be eliminated. Potamogeton crispus produced an abundance of winter buds under conditions of high fertility. Basic models of mating‐system evolution predict that hermaphroditic organisms should mostly either cross‐fertilize, or self‐fertilize, due to self‐reinforcing coevolution of inbreeding depression and outcrossing rates. However transitions between mating systems occur. A plausible scenario for such transitions assumes that a decrease in pollinator or mate availability temporarily constrains outcrossing populations to self‐fertilize as a reproductive assurance strategy. This should trigger a purge of inbreeding depression, which in turn encourages individuals to self‐fertilize more often and finally to reduce male allocation. We tested the predictions of this scenario using the freshwater snail Physa acuta, a self‐compatible hermaphrodite that preferentially outcrosses and exhibits high inbreeding depression in natural populations. From an outbred population, we built two types of experimental evolution lines, controls (outcrossing every generation) and constrained lines (in which mates were often unavailable, forcing individuals to self‐fertilize). After ca. 20 generations, individuals from constrained lines initiated self‐fertilization earlier in life and had purged most of their inbreeding depression compared to controls. However, their male allocation remained unchanged. Our study suggests that the mating system can rapidly evolve as a response to reduced mating opportunities, supporting the reproductive assurance scenario of transitions from outcrossing to selfing. 相似文献

In Northumberland Dodecaceria concharum coexists in the same habitat as D. caulleryi . Morphologically both species are very similar but reproductively they are not. D. concharum is a parthenogenetic atoke while D. caulleryi has an asexual cycle that ends in an epitokous sexual phase. Histologically the gonad of both species had six cell types and the number of cells in each type were found during gametogenesis. In D. concharum the period over which gametogenesis occurs was followed from the increase in size of free coelomic oocytes and numbers of body segments. In D. caulleryi the period was followed by means of changes in the asexual cycle and metamorphosis into epitokes. In spite of the differences in the methods of reproduction of the two species gametogenesis of each was found to be almost identical. Only oogenesis could be compared since D. concharum does not have males. Prior to spawning in both species the production of oocytes by the ovary appeared to be inhibited. Possible hormonal mechanisms used to control atokous and epitokous spawning are discussed. From the histology of the gonads and oocytes D. concharum appeared to have half the number of chromosomes of D. caulleryi. 相似文献

The whitemouth croaker (Micropogonias furnieri) is a demersal teleostean fish inhabiting the Atlantic Ocean from northern Venezuela to southern Argentina. In terms of biomass, the whitemouth croaker is the dominant sciaenid in the Río de la Plata and constitutes an important renewable resource for the Uruguayan and Argentinean fisheries. In the present study, analyzed were the gametogenesis and histological gonadal cycle in female and male whitemouth croakers collected at the Uruguayan coast of the Río de la Plata, between March 1997 and February 1998. In addition, the experimental conditions required to obtain mature viable gametes and achieve in vitro fertilization in this species were investigated. These studies indicate that the whitemouth croaker inhabiting the Río de la Plata is a multiple spawner, which reproduces on the Uruguayan coast between October and February. In vitro studies showed that following activation, sperm remain motile for up to 40 min, and under optimal dilution conditions that they retain a high fertilization capability for 15 min. Taken together these results could support future aquaculture research and exploitation of this species. 相似文献
