The effect of two herbicides (paraquat and simazine on the antifungal activity of two fungicides (captan and mounsrin) against Rhizoctonia solani was studied. when the herbicides paraquat and simazine were applied to soil they altered the effectiveness of both fungicides in controlling R. solani , thus causing damping-off of cotton. Both herbicides increased the toxicity of both fungicides against mycelial growth of the fungus. In pot tests, seeds or soil treated with captan or mounsrin, gave better control of R. solani damping-off disease when the soil was treated with paraquat or simazine compared to untreated soil. Captan was, however, found to be more effective in controlling the disease than mounsrin.  相似文献

Moisture variables have not been a consistent predictor of Rhizoctonia web blight development on container‐grown azalea. A vapour pressure deficit <2.5 hPa was the only moisture variable attributed to slow web blight development in one study, yet in another study, frequent rainfall provided a moderately successful decision criterion for applying fungicide. To characterize web blight development in response to leaf wetness, plants were inoculated with two isolates of binucleate Rhizoctonia AG‐U and maintained in a glasshouse in open‐topped, clear plastic chambers with 0‐, 4‐, 8‐, 12‐, 16‐ and 20‐h daily cycles of 20–30 s mist at 30‐min intervals under day and night temperatures of 29 and 22°C, respectively. Leaf wetness duration closely matched misting cycle duration. Disease incidence was measured per chamber as a mean of the number of blighted leaves per total leaves per stem. A mixed model procedure was used to compare area under the disease progress curves (AUDPC) over 4–6 weeks in experiments performed in 2008 to 2010. Isolate response to mist cycle durations was not different (P = 0.4283) in 2008, but was different in 2009 (P = 0.0010) and 2010 (P < 0.0001) due to one isolate becoming less aggressive over time. AUDPC was consistently higher on azaleas under 16‐ and 20‐h mist cycles, which formed a higher disease group not significantly different from each other. AUDPC under 0‐, 4‐, and 8‐h mist cycles mostly formed a lower disease group, while ranking for a 12‐h mist cycle varied across experiments from the higher, intermediate, or lower AUDPC groups. Current data demonstrate an empirical relationship between long daily leaf wetness durations and development of severe web blight symptoms within a temperature range considered favourable for Rhizoctonia web blight development. Additional studies would be required to model Rhizoctonia web blight development under natural temperature fluctuations.  相似文献

Pot cultures of rice (Oryza sativa L., var. Colusa) in flooded soil were used to measure comparative uniformity of growth where mutual shading was the primary source of variation. Data were analyzed according to various divisions of each layout into blocks, sections, and replicate pots to compare statistical efficiencies.  相似文献

S ummary : An ecological study showed that the pathogeniec form of Agrobacterium radiobacter (A.r. var. tumefaciens ), biotype 2 was present in soil near galled almond seedlings, where it formed a significant proportion of the total biotype 2 population; the pathogen was not detected near healthy plants. One nonpathogenic biotype 2 isolate was able, when present in numbers approximately equal to the pathogen, to prevent crown gall induction in tomato and peach seedlings. This isolate gave complete biological control of crown gall in a glasshouse test. Six other nonpathogenic isolates did not significantly inhibit gall induction by equal numbers of the pathogen. In the field, gall induction probably depends on the size of the population of the pathogen (both absolutely and relative to that of the nonpathogen) at a wound site and on the inhibitory efficiency of the nonpathogen.  相似文献

The effects of four herbicides and hand weeding and no weeding on soybean disease development and seed quality were studied in the field. Chloramben, dinoseb, fluchloralin, and trifluralin were preplant incorporated at recommended rates. In addition, the effect of an in-furrow oat (Avena sativa L.) amendment used as an inoculum carrier was studied in all treatments. Compared with the hand-weeded control, yield, incidence of Septoria leafspot (Septoria glycines), and the recovery of Phomopsis spp. from pod and stem tissues were reduced in the week-infested control and dinosebtreated plots. Recovery of Alternaria spp. was greater from crown tissues of plants grown in chloramben- and fluchloralin-treated plots compared with, either the weed-infested or hand-weeded control. Septoria leafspot ratings and recovery of Phomopsis spp. from various plant tissues were higher in plants from hand-weeded plots compared with weed-infested plots, whereas the opposite was truefor, the recovery of Fusarium spp. Chloramben-treated plots were high-yielding and had the best weed control of all herbicide treatments. Seed quality was not affected by herbicide treatment. Plants from furrows with autoclaved oats had a lower incidence of Septoria glycines, a greater recovery of Fusarium spp. from pod and stem pieces, and produced seed with lower quality than plants from rows with no oat amendment.  相似文献

Soreshin of cotton was more severe from combined infections of Rhizoctonia solani and Meloidogyne incognita than from either organism alone, when both critical soil temperature and inoculum concentrations were present. Optimum soil temperatures for disease development from combined infections were 18 and 21 C. Either 2,500 or 5,000 M. incognita larvae per plant, combined with R. solani, increased seedling disease severity over that caused by R. solani alone. When 100 or 500 larvae per plant were added with R. solani, disease severity did not change. Disease severity increased with the highest level of R. solani inoculum either alone or combined with M. incognita.  相似文献

The synthetic mustered flavouring essential oil, allyl isothiocyanate (AITC), was evaluated for its effect on suppression of Rhizoctonia solani growth in vitro, and in field soils for reducing inoculum density, saprophytic substrate colonization and seedling damping off and blight using snap bean and cabbage as indicator plants. In vitro growth was completely inhibited at the concentration of 50 μl/l. Inoculum density and saprophytic substrate colonization by the fungus in soil were not affected by AITC concentrations of 50 or 75 μl/kg soil. The inoculum density estimation by the use of soil‐drop technique created an artefact leading to an erroneous conclusion that the fungus was eradicated from soil within 1–3 days after AITC treatment at 150 or 200 μl/kg soil. The saprophytic substrate colonization showed that although the activity of R. solani was greatly reduced, the fungus still colonized 45% of the substrate units at these concentrations, and up to 100% at lower concentrations within 1 day after treatment. At higher concentrations the recovery rate from the substrates gradually declined over time to <6%. Drenching R. solani infested sandy‐loam or silty‐clay‐loam soil with water containing the emulsified AITC to provide 150 or 200 μl/l soil, a few days prior to planting, gave over 90% disease control in snap bean and cabbage, with no apparent phytotoxic effect. The effect of AITC was not influenced by the physical soil texture. AITC appears to have a good potential to replace methyl bromide fumigation of the substrate used for transplant production.  相似文献

Population changes in Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides with and without fungicide selection A conidium mixture of W (wheat-type) and R (rye-type) strains of Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides (W:R = 1:1) was incubated on PD-agar without fungicide or amended with the imidazole prochloraz or the triazole cyproconazole. The W:R ratio was assessed over four generations using the different benomyl sensitivity of the strains as marker. In untreated mixtures, the R strain completely dominated the population already after two generations. Similarly, in cyproconazole-treated mixtures, the R strain increased to 100% after the second generation, whereas in prochloraz-treated mixtures the R strain either followed the same pattern as in untreated mixtures or fluctuated around the initial proportion of 50% over four generations. The W and R strains displayed different fitness properties. The average hyphal growth rate was 8.5 mm/10 d and 4.5 mm/10 d for the W and the R strains, respectively; the sporulation capacity was 80 and 400 conidia/colony, respectively, for the two strains. The different fitness resulted in a strong dominance of the R strains both in vitro and in field populations towards the end of the vegetation period. This shift towards R-dominance occurred about equally fast with or without fungicide selection.  相似文献

Effect of Selected Herbicides on Bacterial Growth Rates   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0       下载免费PDF全文
Specific growth rate constants were used to evaluate the effects of selected herbicides on Erwinia carotovora, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and Bacillus sp. Comparison of growth rate constants permitted the identification of either stimulatory or inhibitory effects of these substances. E. carotovora was inhibited by 6,7-dihydrodipyrido(1,2-a:2'-c)pyrazinediium (diquat) and 4-hydroxy-3,5-diiodobenzonitrile (ioxynil) at 25 mug/ml; 1,1'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridinium (paraquat) at 50 mug/ml; and pentachlorophenol (PCP) at 10 mug/ml. P. fluorescens was inhibited by paraquat and PCP at 25 mug/ml and by 4-amino-3,5,6-trichloropicolinic acid (picloram) at 50 mug/ml. Stimulation of P. fluorescens was observed with 4-(methylsulfonyl)-2,6-dinitro-N,N-dipropylaniline (nitralin) at 25 mug/ml. The Bacillus species was inhibited by diquat (25 mug/ml), ioxynil (10 mug/ml), and paraquat and PCP (5 mug/ml). No significant effect of 2-chloro-4-(ethylamino)-6-(isopropylamino)-s-triazine (atrazine), 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (diuron), alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluoro-2,6-dinitro-N,N-dipropyl-p-toluidine (trifluralin), or 1,1-dimethyl-3-(alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluoro-m-tolyl)urea (fluometuron) on growth rates of the bacteria was observed at 25 and 50 mug/ml.  相似文献

The effects of 14 herbicides on cellulose decomposition by Sporocytophaga myxococcoides were studied by growing the organism in two different liquid cellulose-mineral salts media in the presence of the test agent and then quantitatively determining the residual cellulose. In the first medium, containing acid-hydrolyzed cellulose, anthrone reagent was used to determine residual carbohydrate. In the second medium, Gooch Pyrex fritted-glass crucibles were used to determine the amount of residual Whatman powdered cellulose. The herbicides used were Atrazine, Simazine, Dacthal, Diuron, Amiben, Banvel-D, Banvel-T,2,3,6-TBA, Dicryl, Maleic Hydrazide, Stam F-34, Zytron, Fenac, and Dalapon. Of these, Zytron appeared to be the most inhibitory to the test bacterium, and was the only compound exhibiting inhibition at a commonly used field rate of application (2 ppm).  相似文献

Abstract Experimental studies of the emergence of shrubs and trees in grassy woodlands on the New England Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia, showed that emergence of seedlings was determined by seed supply, seed predators and seed burial. The survival of these seedlings was then observed in an experiment to test the effects of previous land use, grazing by stock and grazing by other vertebrates. The fate of four eucalypts and six shrub species was followed over 5 years. Across all species more than 50% mortality occurred in the first 6 months prior to the imposition of grazing treatments. These deaths were attributed to the combined effects of insect defoliation, cold, and low soil moisture. Average mortality over all treatments showed two distinct trends: eucalypts and one unpalatable shrub (Leptospermum) had greater than 1% survival over 5 years, whereas Acacia, Cassinia, Indigophera, Lomatia and Xanthorrhoea either had very low or no survival after 5 years. The effect of livestock grazing on seedling numbers was rarely detected because of patchy emergence and mortality due to other causes. However, proportional hazard regression models showed that there was often an increased hazard associated with grazing or grazed landscapes. Overall, those species with high hazard coefficients associated with stock are rare in the landscape, whereas those with lesser risk are more common. Recruitment is likely to be an extremely rare event because the highest proportion of germinable seed sown that survived to a juvenile stage was 0.42% and the mean across all species was 0.12%. No natural recruitment of shrub species was observed over 5 years of observation, suggesting that recruitment is episodic and disturbance driven. Enhancing natural ‘regeneration’ of woody plants under these circumstances may be more challenging than simply fencing off remnants.  相似文献

A remarkable effect of validamycin on the morphology of Rhizoctonia solani was seen after 2 days culture when the fungus was cultivated in a Roux flask with standing. In accordance with the morphological change, the production of laminarinase and glucan synthetase by the fungus was affected by validamycin.

The production of laminarinase was increased in the culture filtrate, and significantly decreased in the mycelium in the presence of validamycin. While the intracellular production of glucan synthetase in the culture with validamycin (10~50μg/ml) increased by 40~60% compared with that in the control culture.  相似文献

Probable factors influencing resistance to aflatoxin synthesis in soybeans have been investigated by using cultures of Aspergillus parasiticus NRRL 3240. Soybeans contain a small amount of zinc (0.01 mug/g) bound to phytic acid. Autoclaving soybeans at 15 pounds (6803.88 g) for 15 min increases the aflatoxin production, probably by making zinc available. Addition of zinc to both autoclaved and nonautoclaved soybeans promotes aflatoxin production. However, addition of varying levels of phytic acid at a constant concentration of zinc depresses aflatoxin synthesis with an increase in the added phytic acid. In a synthetic medium known to give good yields of aflatoxin, the addition of phytic acid (10 mM) decreases aflatoxin synthesis.  相似文献

Sclerotia produced by a single isolate of Rhizoctonia solani AG3PT were buried in small plot experiments to investigate the effects of sclerotial production method, soil type and burial depth on sclerotial viability in field soil. The factor with the greatest effect on sclerotial viability, defined as the percentage of sclerotia germinating on agar following retrieval, in all experiments was the duration of burial. After 18 months, on average across all experiments, 20% of retrieved sclerotia were viable. A comparison between sclerotia produced in vitro on malt yeast extract agar and in vivo using micropropagated tubers in field soil found no significant differences between the two production methods on sclerotial viability. Burial in field soil at 20‐cm depth was found to significantly reduce sclerotial viability to 50% compared to 60% at 5 cm. In two pot experiments, amending the growing medium and soil with increasing inoculum densities of R. solani was found to increase stem number, stem canker and black scurf severity regardless of whether this soil‐borne inoculum was derived from mycelium or sclerotia. Black scurf incidence and severity were assessed 30–32 days posthaulm destruction and found to be similar for a range of sclerotial soil‐borne inoculum densities (1.0 × 10?1 g/kg d.w. soil to 6 × 10?3 g/kg d.w. soil). The significance of these findings in relation to pathogen survival, detection in soil and disease development is discussed.  相似文献

Field experiments were designed to examine tree and shrub seedling emergence in temperate grassy woodlands on the New England Tablelands. The effects of study sites, intensity of previous grazing, removal of ground cover by fire or clearing, burial of seeds and ant seed theft on seedling emergence were tested in two field experiments. Six tree and seven shrub species were used in the experiments and their cumulative emergence was compared with laboratory germination studies. All species used in field experiments had lower cumulative emergence than those in laboratory germination studies despite prolonged periods of above average rainfall before and after seeds were sown. Eucalypt species emerged faster in the field than the shrub species and generally attained higher cumulative emergence than the shrubs. Spatial effects of sites and patches within sites, and of previous grazing history did not strongly influence patterns of seedling emergence in most species. Ground and litter cover generally did not enhance or suppress the emergence of seedlings, although the removal of cover in recently grazed areas enhanced the emergence of some species. Burning enhanced the emergence of some tree and shrub species where plots had more fuel and intense fires, but this effect was not strong. Compared with other treatments, seedbed manipulations produced the strongest effects. In the absence of both invertebrate and vertebrate predators, seedling emergence was lower for surface‐sown seed, compared with seed sown on scarified soil surfaces. Higher seedling emergence of buried seeds in the presence of invertebrate predators probably resulted from the combined effects of predator escape and enhanced moisture status of the germination environment. Some promotion of emergence was achieved for all species in most sown treatments probably as a result of a prolonged above average rainfall. In contrast, the natural recruitment of trees and shrubs was negligible in experimental plots, highlighting the importance of seed supply and dispersal as ultimate determinants of recruitment.  相似文献
