Cefoxitin, a second-generation cephalosporin, was compared with cefazolin, a first-generation cephalosporin, and a placebo in a prospective, double-blind study of antibiotic prophylaxis in women undergoing nonelective cesarean section. In the groups that received cefazolin or the placebo there eas no statistically significant change in colonization of the cervix by aerobic bacteria by the fourth day after the operation, but there was a statistically significant increase in colonization by anaerobes. Cefoxitin had the opposite effect. Of the 14 postoperative infections in 11 patients, significantly more were in patients who had received the placebo; the numbers were too small to show a difference in effectiveness between the two antibiotics. Of the microorganisms implicated as the infectious agents, group B Streptococcus was the most frequent aerobe, and Peptostreptococcus and Bacteroides bivius were the most frequent anaerobes. Among the 15 patients for whom at least one perioperative specimen yielded positive culture results, a postoperative infection developed in 5 of the 6 who received the placebo, 2 of the 4 who received cefazolin and 1 of the 5 who received cefoxitin.  相似文献

Cells mechanically isolated from homogenized leaves ofC. sepium dividein vitro. The rate of cell division is strongly influenced by temperature with the optimum between 31 and 34 °C. The rate of cell division increases proportionally with a rise in temperature up to 31 °C and is accompanied by a reduction in the length of the preparatory phase of the division. A supraoptimal temperature (40 °C) inhibits or stops the cell division which can be restored provided that the cells are transferred to 31 °C. If the preparatory phase to the commencement of cell division is accomplished at 17 °C the cells then exposed to 31 °C divide more rapidly than if they are exposed directly to 31 °C.  相似文献

Résumé Lors de la régénération traumatique des yeux de Lineus ruber la différenciation biochimique des nouvelles cellules pigmentaires est séquentielle. On assiste à l'apparition successive des chaînes enzymatiques nécéssaires à la biosynthèse de porphyrine et de mélanine.Les études ultrastructurale et autoradiographique à haute résolution de ces phénomènes — montrent que la mélanisation s'opère au niveau d'organites cellulaires spécialisés (prémélanosomes, mélanosomes). La porphyrinogénèse se développe dans des vacuoles et organites d'origine golgienne qui participent également à la mélanogénèse.

Summary In Lineus ruber the biochemical differentiation of the new pigmentary cells is sequential during the reparative regeneration of the eyes. The enzymatic pathways for porphyrin and melanin biosynthesis appear successively.Ultrastructural and high resolution radioautography studies, show that melanization occurs in specialized organelles called premelanosomes, melanosomes and melanin granules. Prophyrogenesis occurs in Golgi vesicles which are also involved in melanogenesis.

Résumé La synthèse des terpènes par les cellules sécrétrices des canaux de l'écorce des rameaux dePinus etPicea est terminée à la fin de la période d'élongation de la pousse de l'année. Les cellules épithéliales subissent ensuite une dédifférenciation progressive et accumulent des substances de réserve. La potentialité sécrétrice peut Être réactivée par gemmage. Elle se traduit initialement par une multiplication des leucoplastes et des membranes du reticulum endoplasmique lisse. Ces deux systèmes sont donc responsables de la production d'oléorésine dans les conditions normales ou sous l'effet d'une blessure.
Effects of tapping on the ultrastructure of the secretory cells of the bark of stems ofPinus sylvestris L. andPicea abies (L.) Karst
Summary The terpene synthesis by the resin canal cells of the bark in the twigs ofPinus andPicea ceases at the end of the elongation period of the first year shoot. After this secretory period, the epithelial cells undergo a progressive dedifferentiation and store ergastic material. The secretory potentiality may be reactivated by tapping. The first obvious features are the multiplication of leucoplasts and membranes of the agranular endoplasmic reticulum. Therefore these two systems are the site of the oleoresin production in normal conditions and after wounding.

Summary The study of the saxatile vegetation of the alpine zone in the Upper Ubaye Valley shows a very sharp demarcation from a phytogeographical point of view.The saxatile groupings on limestone show septentrional affinities. It is interesting to note that the associations described have at least as much relationship to the Swiss Alp groups as to those of The Maritime Alps in fact closer.In our opinion, the explanation is not to be found in very different climatical or ecological considerations but in the presence of important barrier-mountains which have deprived the Upper Ubaye Valley of alien postglacial immigrants.There endemism is apparent but less important than in the neighbouring zone of The Maritime Alps; here it concerns surviving endemic species proceeding from an old native preglacial or interglacial element.These characters are to be found more in the northern areas of Queyras, Embrunais and Briançonnais, regions which have an incontestable relationship with our district.  相似文献

Phylogenetic relationships among fungi belonging to the family of Ustilaginaceae (genera Microbotryum, Sphacelotheca, Ustilago, Sporisorium) are inferred from a parsimony analysis using the ITS sequences of nuclear ribosomal genes. The introduction in the phylogeny of sequences from species of Suillus, Puccinia and Taphrina as outgroup shows the polyphyletism of this family. These results support the division of this taxon into two groups: Ustilaginaceae s. str. formed only by the pathogens of Poaceae, and Microbotryaceae constituted by the pathogens of Dicotyledons. Furthermore, we proposed to extend the host plant spectrum of Ustilaginaceae s. str. to all the Monocotyledons. Several discriminating characteristics are listed to support this distinction.  相似文献

The number of ICSI cycles performed with testicular spermatozoa has increased dramatically over recent years. However, one of the technical limitations of this approach concerns the extremely reduced motility of testicular spermatozoa. However, increased sperm motility was observed after incubating testicular samples for several hours. Therefore, in order to improve ICSI success rates, several authors have tested the effect of previous in vitro culture. We present a review of the literature on this subject. In vitro culture does not appear to be very useful in cases of obstructive azoospermia, as, apart from possible sperm “maturation” during this culture phase, a high proportion of motile spermatozoa is usually already observed prior to in vitro culture. The benefits of in vitro culture appear to be greater in the case of non-obstructive azoospermia, as when spermatozoa are present on the biopsy, they are usually immobile. However, discordant results have been published: after in vitro culture, spermatozoa have been reported to be either motile or mostly dead. Regardless of the type of azoospermia, the best results are obtained after 3–4 days of in vitro culture. Addition of recombinant FSH to the culture medium also appears to be effective. Cryopreservation of testicular biopsies may also be associated with in vitro culture and the in vitro culture/freezing sequence appears to give better results than the freezing/in vitro culture sequence. Very few studies have reported the results of ICSI using frozen in vitro cultured spermatozoa, as most published studies concern fresh spermatozoa, used after 1–2 days of in vitro culture with satisfactory fertilization and pregnancy rates. In vitro culture of testicular spermatozoa may therefore constitute an interesting research approach to improve the results of ICSI when the number of spermatozoa and/or motility are very low. In addition, in vitro culture of testicular spermatozoa appears to be a good tool to study the mechanisms of acquisition of motility, which are still poorly understood.  相似文献

To estimate the incidence of fracture of the proximal end of the femur in people aged 50 years or older living in the Quebec area in 1971, 1976 and 1981 we determined the number of admissions for such fractures to the 15 acute care hospitals in the region. From 1971 to 1981 the number of fractures increased by 71%; the increases for those aged 75 to 84 years and 85 years or over were 98% and 118% respectively. The variation is only partly explained by changes in sex and age distribution of the population; the incidence rates also increased. Among men aged 75 to 84 years the incidence rate per 1000 person-years rose from 2.63 in 1971 to 5.22 in 1981, an increase of 98%; the corresponding figures for men aged 85 years or more were 9.76 and 16.91, an increase of 73%. Among women aged 75 to 84 years the rate rose from 7.28 to 8.81, an increase of 21%; the corresponding figures for women aged 85 years or more were 20.40 and 24.27, an increase of 21% and 19% respectively.  相似文献

Summary The eyes of the Nemertean worm Lineus ruber are situated on the dorsal face of the animal in two lateral bands in front of the cerebral ganglia. There are 6 or 8 ocelli per animal enclosed in the cephalic parenchyme. They consist of a pigmented eyecup in which 50 photoreceptor cells are present. The photoreceptrice cells have:dendritic processes which are full of mitochondria, neurotubules, vacuoles and only one axial filament;a pericaryon with rough endoplasmic reticulum, a Golgi apparatus and few mitochondria.

Résumé Les yeux de la Némerte marine Lineus ruber sont situés sur la face dorsale de l'animal, en deux rangées parallèles à l'avant des ganglions cérébroïdes. On en dénombre 6 à 8 localisés dans le parenchyme céphalique. Ils consistent en une cupule pigmentaire entourant une cinquantaine de cellules visuelles qui rejoignent les centres nerveux supérieurs. Pour les cellules photoréceptrices on distingue:un processus dendritique riche en mitochondries, neurotubules, vacuoles et possédant un axe médian;un corps cellulaire où l'on trouve du réticulum endoplasmique rugueux, un appareil de Golgi développé mais peu de mitochondries.

The goal of our work is to provide an automatic analysis and decision tool for sleep stages classification based on an artificial neural networks (ANN). The first difficulty lies in choosing the physiological signals representation and in particular the electroencephalogram (EEG). Once the representation adopted, the next step is to design the optimal neural network determined by a learning and validation process of data from a set of sleep records. We studied several configurations of conventional ANN giving results varying from 62 to 71 %, then we proposed a new hierarchical configuration, which gives a rate of 74 % correct classification for six stages. These results lead us to further explore this issue at the representation and design of ANNs to improve the performance of our tool.  相似文献
