Three species of loricate choanoflagellates (Choanoflagdlida,Acanthoecidae), collected from the Andaman Sea near Phuket Island(SW Thailand), have been described and referred to Apheloeciongen.nov. (holotype: A. quadrispinum sp.nov.). All species possessa single-chambered lorica composed of one transverse costs overlaidby a limited number of longitudinal costae which converge posteriorly.Anteriorly the longitudinal costae protrude above the transversecosta as sharp pointed spines. In A. quadrispinum sp.nov. andA. pentacanthum sp.nov. the lorica is terminated by a shortposterior spine, whereas in A. articulatum sp.nov. the pedicelis much more prominent, consisting of several costal stripswhich are joined end-to-end. The species of Apheloecion appearto be most closely related to species of Calliacantha and Monocosta.None of the species described are so far known from localitiesoutside the Andaman Sea. 相似文献

The helically coiled mid-Cretaceous family Turrilitidae Meek,1876 are abundant in late Albian and Cenomanian sediments ofEastern South Africa, including representatives of the generaPseudhelicoceras, Turrilites, Hypoturrilites, Ostlingocerasand Mariella, together with a new genus, Neostlingoceras (typespecies Turrilites carcitanensis Matheron, 1842).a Hypoturriliteshomoeomorph derived from Ostlingoceras. Twenty-two species andsubspecies are described, four of them new: Hypoturrilites crickisp. nov., Mariella (Mariella) acanthotuberculata sp. nov., Mariella(Mariella) oehlerti (Pervinquière) sulcata subsp. nov.and Mariella (Mariella) gallienii evoluta subsp. nov. A new species of pelagic amphipod, Lestrigonus ducrayi sp. nov.,from eastern Australia, is described and illustrated. It isvery similar to Lestrigonus bengalensis Giles, 1887, but isreadily distinguished by a relatively shorter telson (aboutone-third peduncle uropod 3) and, in mature males, pereonites15 are fused as in females. The two species often occurtogether in the same plankton sample; the new species beingmore abundant inshore, although both species seem to preferinshore waters. The species of Epimeniidae (Solenogastres: Cavi-belonia) arecompared and revised according to available type material. Structuresof particular interest include the differentiation of the foregut,the pharyngo-buccal nervous system and the blood cells. Sevenspecies are recognized in the family. Of these, six are placedin the genus Epimenia: E. australis (Thiele) (synonym Dinomeniaverrucosa Nierstrasz), E. ohshimai Baba, E. arabica Salvini-Plawen& Benayahu, and the three new species E. babai from offKyushu, Japan (synonym E. verrucosa in Baba 19391951),E. allohaemata from off Korea and E.indica from the Maldives. For three Prorocentrum species, P. minimum (Pavillard) Schiller,P. rhathymum sp. nov., and P. triestinum Schiller, we have foundthat both flagella emerge from a single large pore. This arrangementis contrary to previous observations which suggested they arosefrom separate pores. Prorocentrum triestinum has only one anteriorpore, whereas P. minimum and P. rhathymum sp. nov. have an additionalauxiliary pore. The pores in all three species are formed bya series of small plates. The left and right valves on eachspecies can be identified by ornamentation unique to each valve.Prorocentrum rhathymum sp. nov., isolated from the planktonof Cinnamon Bay, Virgin Islands, is described.

Rostanga elandsia sp. nov., Rostanga aureamala sp. nov. andRostanga
phepha sp. nov. are characterized by having the radulawith slender
innermost lateral teeth, which lack denticles onthe inner side of the
cusp and have a single denticle on theouter side. The outermost
lateral teeth of these three speciesare elongate, but shorter than in
other species of the genus.In addition, R. aureamala is the only
species of the genus withrachidian teeth and R. phepha is unique
within the genus Rostanga byvirtue of its white coloration with dark
spots. A phylogenetic analysis shows that the three new species fromSouth
Africa and Rostanga setidens (Odhner, 1939) are the sistergroup of
the rest of the genus. The species from Japan and MarshallIslands
(North Pacific Ocean) are basal in the sister cladecontaining the
other species of Rostanga Bergh, 1879. The tropicalIndo-Pacific
species of Rostanga are not monophyletic. The Atlanticand Eastern
Pacific species form a monophyletic, derived clade,being the sister
group of Rostanga australis Rudman & Avern,1989, which has a narrow
range restricted to south eastern Australia.The widespread
Indo-Pacific species Rostanga bifurcata Rudman& Avern, 1989, is the
sister group of Rostanga dentacus Rudman& Avern, 1989, also widesprad in the tropical western Pacific. This phylogeny suggest s a viariant origin of the Sourth African,
Atlantic-EasternPacific, and probably North Pacific species, whereas

From 12°S to 9°N-140°W on the benthic cruise ofthe US Joint Global Ocean Flux Studies (JGOFS), horizontal near-surfacenet tows (n = 18) and vertical net hauls (n = 15, 200-0 m) yieldedhigh relative abundances of small, bicapitate, intact Nitzschiavalves (average 59.0 and 56.0% of total diatoms, respectively),although >90% of them were too small to have been caughteffectively with the net used. This complex was much less common(average 3.2% of diatoms) in the surface sediment samples (n= 7, 12°S-9°N, below water depths of 4269-4991 m). Examinationunder the light microscope showed concentrations of cells associatedwith organic detritus, planar and cylindrical membranous structures,fecal pellets, and occasionally on other diatoms (e.g. Asterolampra),i.e. on or within particles large enough to be collected inthe net. Although Nitzschio bicapitato Cleve has been consideredto have a characteristic range of shapes, and has often beencited from open-ocean habitats in nano- and microplanktonicstudies, a scanning electron microscopic study revealed severalspecies in our material. Examples of larger and smaller speciesare given, and Nitzschia ikeanae G.Fryx. & H.Lee, sp. nov.,is described here. Ecologically, these observations indicatethat although some are grazed and have been seen aggregatedin fecal pellets, these small pennate diatoms can affix to andgrow on substrates, termed pseudo-benthic habitatsin the open ocean, resulting in unexpected concentrations thathave implications for their life histories and sexual cycles,selection or avoidance by grazers, sinking on substrates, androles in the recycling of nutrients in near-surface waters. 相似文献
